LIRC uses different external libraries to talk to the hardware it uses. And it only uses the libraries for the hardware you say you have. You could turn on all the different hardware types but that would make a ridiculous set of dependencies. And I'm sorry for my delayed response. The latest bttv driver needs it. 4) It's possible to put the LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) package too? From the tarball, it seems to me that the package is configurable only in compile time, but it's so cool use the remote control :) Canek
Re: [Cooker] Video TV card support
Hi! I once used a bttv card (Hauppage WinTV Radio), but now I'm using a digital one which is not based on the bttv chip. I can't test my old card as I don't have a free slot any longer (my old board had one more than my new one...). Question: Do you plan to support other cards as well ? The DVB support on Linux is quite well and the drive works for me concerning simple TV viewing. Several cards are supported. The driver requires i2c modules from lm_sensors (backport from 2.4 ?). The driver is on www.linuxtv.net. I created a rpm for the driver which worked on a plin 2.2.16 kernel (did not yet test with the current one). BTW: I could neither xawtv nor kwintv to use the DVB driver, so you have to use the tv application which is included with the driver which is based on gtk. > 3) Easy TV viewers configuration > in order to build an easy tv configurator, i would like to build a database > of kwintv and/or xawtv config files for different areas of the world. > please, send me your config. > (Note that this is a long-term project) I sent you both the ids from my Hauppage and from DVB-Card when I reported some problems with harddrake. If you need new info, I can create them with the latest version. Best regards, Reinhard Katzmann -- E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It would be nice if Mandrake could include the experimental bttv2 driver (http://sourceforge.net/projects/bttv-v4l2/), because all other drivers refused to work with a bt878 based FlyVideo 98 card and Realproducer 6.x and 8.x. This card worked with xawtv and bttv.o from distribution cd and was automatically recognized. Jan

Thierry Vignaud wrote: > > > Note that the new bttv doesn't need anymore the tuner type and the bttv card >parameters :-) Not quite. The AverMedia TVPhone98 works weird if the tuner is not marked as type=5 (Philips PAL). By default it tries to load type 3 (Philips SECAM). In this case xawtv shows either trash or nothing at all. Channels/frequencies do not seem to change under this option. It seems to struck in some random frequency and remains there endlessly. Our region is 99% SECAM (some PAL stations exist also). The tuner box possesses a sign on the top as SECAM D/K, but it can receive either PAL or SECAM. However, by some reason, it doesn't swallow type 3. This has happened since I started to use it a year ago. The last kernel I tried to force the bttv autoload was 2.4.0-test6. Ektanoor
Re: [Cooker] Video TV card support
For those who own one of bt848, bt849A, bt878, bt879 and the like : that would be me (new hauppage/radio card (stnd stereo) do you have any idea how to hack xawtv to default to US broadcast (NTSC) nodga? Robert L Martin

Eh, maybe I don't understand, but /proc/bus/pci is a directory, you want a tarball or /proc/pci? Oh, and it's possible to put in the Linux Infrared Remote Control (lirc) package, it's so cool :) Canek

Off topic, but related to this, can anyone recommend a good very low cost TV capture card that works well with Linux BTTV? -- Gary Lawrence Murphy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: office voice/fax: 01 519 4222723 T(C)Inc Business Innovations through Open Source http://www.teledyn.com M:I-3 - Documenting the Linux kernel: http://kernelbook.sourceforge.net
Re: [Cooker] Video TV card support
> > > For those who own one of bt848, bt849A, bt878, bt879 and the like : Isn't the PCI id of the particular card just the PCI id of the PCI controller/tuner chip (IOW the bt8xx)? Also, how do you intend to uniquely identify individual cards? The last I checked, something like a WinTV 401 that would just show up as a bt878 card sans fm tuner. So you wouldn't necessarily know to set radio=1 (or whatever the procedure is these days for enabling radio support) for the module load of bttv. As far as the PCI ID's themselves, you should just be able to get them out of the kernel headers. > > > 1) BTTV auto config > in order to support a lot of TV cards, i request all people who have a tv tuner >card to send me > back (and to pixel too) its pci id. > if you don't know how to do it, just send us your /proc/bus/pci and the result of >lspcidrake. > Also give me the module name (should be bttv for most people) > All these cards'll be automatically configured in mdk7.2. > > answer to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Note that the new bttv doesn't need anymore the tuner type and the bttv card >parameters :-) Woohoo! > Note also that latest chmouel's kernel (aka 2.2.17-1mdk) has broken bttv :-( (fixing >in progress) ppph! > > > > 2) KWinTV for KDE2 and fixed xawtv > Also, if one want to try a KDE2 binary if KWinTV, he can test > ftp://mandrakesoft.com/pub/tv/V4L/kwintv-0.7.99-1mdk.i586.rpm (and of course report > any success (or any faillure :-( ) to me, thanks). > > I've also fixed xawtv ressources problem. The lastest xawtv that I have installed doesn't do fullscreen mode right. Although Reel Deal slots has no problems with mode switches. (Then again, the SMAC and SC3K demos all put my monitor in DPMS suspend mode whenever they try to go to fullscreen mode) .xawtv (US, Las Vegas) - [global] fullscreen = 640 x 480 freqtab = us-cable pixsize = 64x48 jpeg-quality = 75 [defaults] norm = NTSC capture = over source = Television [NBC Vegas] channel = 3 norm = NTSC [VCR] channel = 4 norm = NTSC > > > That's all folks! > > ...and another thing, are you going to have full USB HID support (including hubs) available for the installer for the release version of 7.2?
