 What about RS 6000 machines ? Especially 43P-150 :-)

Will they be able to boot and install from the 9.2

I would love to get these machines runing on Linux and Mandrake

Since i already have a couple of x86 doing that !

I heard that 9.1 would boot and install on a RS/6000, but I couldn't manage to do it.
Did you try?
Anyway, I would also like to have Linux on my good old 43P-150 :-) I guess we can
share impressions and ideas when the time to test arrives.

9.1 was tested and mostly built on an RS6000 43P-150.

Hum... maybe I should try again when I get some spare time again. I tried to install
9.1 for a short while but unfortunately I couldn't dedicate all the necessary time to
it (well, actually I prefer to say fortunately, since the reason is that I am
getting married in two weeks!)

There is no official 9.2 PPC.

Well, I was actually thinking about cooker. I expected some unofficial 9.2 PPC to
come up, but now you tell me that it might be a mix of 9.2/10.0/whatever. Well, as
Deng Hsiao Ping said, it doesn't matter whether the cat is black or white as long as
it chases mice.

Thanks for your answer!

Contribute as in lend me the machine? I really need to get hands on with
one to work through the issues. If you want to do the remote
troibleshooting thing, we can go that route too, but it will be slow.

Roger:
I could use even this small bootstrap, or instructions to create one myself.
Would it be possible that you send it/them to me, or put them in a place
where I can download? I would appreciate it. Anyway, it can be a good
starting point for a full-fledged boot-and-install process.

Stew:
I can also lend a hand testing whatever you need in my RS/6000. Actually I
was in the mailing list and beta testing back in August, but I was sent
overseas for a six-month project and had to give up.

MDK8 installation on an RS/6000?

2002-03-05 Thread Tirs Abril

Hi everybody! After almost six months working in a project abroad, I am back
home and I'm continuing what I left, namely the installation of Mandrake
Linux 8.0 PPC on an IBM RS/6000 43P-150.

My question is very simple: Where do I begin? I have the two CDs, and none of
them boot. I am afraid maybe they are intended for a MacIntosh BIOS and I
have been looking for a bootable floppy image or something similar, but I
couldn't find it. Can somebody put me on track? Is there anybody out there
who has installed Mandrake PPC on an RS/6000 and wants to share experiences?

Thanks a lot!

Re: HTML messages - yea or nay?

2001-07-12 Thread Tirs Abril

Just wondering if people minded having HTML messages posted to this
mailing list. If any dissent exists - I'll gladly revert to plain text
 messages ;)

The core question here is:

Does HTML add any useful info to your messages?

If not, I recommend you to turn it off and work without it - always and
forever. Efficiency and competence need to remove, eliminate and stand out
redundance.
