[CnD] trick to pouring liquids
Hi All, I am new to the list. I have a quesstion. Are there any tricks to pouring liquids? For example say a recipe calls for 1 1/2 tsp of oil how would I pour that without making a mess? Thank you for any help. Regards, Gary kn4ox ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark
Re: [CnD] trick to pouring liquids
Hello Gary, When I measure oil, I do it over an empty bowl so that if the oil runs over my measuring cup or spoon, the excess will run into the bowl. Then, if I managed to spill too much oil in the bowl, I use a funnel to pour the excess oil back into the bottle. If I don't spill very much, I just usually rinse it down the drain with very hot water. Either way, the oil is in the bowl and not on the counter. Also, I often place the bowl I'm measuring over in the sink so there is less mess to clean up. I don't think there's any real easy way to measure oil! Even most of my sighted friends don't like to do it! Hope this helps! Re: [CnD] trick to pouring liquids
Hello Gary, I never pour liquids, but I scoop them instead. In the case of oil, or any other liquid, I pour some into a wide mouth container, such as a plastic pot with a snap on llid, and then scoop out the amount required, such as a tablespoon, quarter cup measure, or whatever you require. I do the same with anything liquid, such as ketchup, etc storing the plastic pot in the fridge, and then there is no chance of over pouring a liquid which makes no sound at all before you have far too much. Even the milk is decanted into a wide mouth milk jug, which is then cover with a plastic shower cap and I scoop out the amount I need ffor tea or coffee. Hope you find this helpful. Hello Gary my name is Teresa welcome to the list. Well I learned an easy way to measure things by putting oil in a different jar or an empty jar of peanut butter or mayonnaise. If you have measuring spoons that are the metal kind the table spoon is bent like a ladle and the others as well this would be easier to ladle out oil from the jar and measuring it to where it is needed. I hope that helps like you measure out the oil from the jar then put it in whatever you are baking or cooking. I use a spray bottle and put the oil on the spoon that way. I do the same thing for a cup also. It really works. Hello Lenore my name is Teresa what do you mean you use a spray bottle? What do you put in it? Oil or what? This is very interesting also I am getting useful tips from you guys as well. What I tried to use at one time is I really wash a dish washing soap bottle really well to make sure there is no soap residue left. And I use oil in it and just squeeze what I need out into the pan. Re: [CnD] trick to pouring liquids
Hi Gary and everyone, I hate measuring oil most of all!!! When I'm organized, I lay out a paper towel which collects most drips. Well, check back soon, must plan my ego trip. I thought those paper towels were made just for me.
Hi there. For oil I usually measure over the sink. FIrst I put hot water in the measuring spoon then it is easier to feel. Other liquids sometimes if it is a big cup or thermus you can hear the liquid get to the top. THe pitch changes as it gets higher. Hope this helps.
