[css-d] [Fwd: Re: [#24488699] Anchor offset ?]

2010-05-10 Thread david
Sorry to bother the list ... but I received this message below in
response to my 3:20 PM reply to a list email about the Anchor Offset
topic. I sent my reply ONLY to the list, so apparently someone's address
(@midphase.com) on the list isn't supposed to be on the list, which
doesn't seem to be something I can do anything about ... I guess if you
contact supp...@midphase.com with their ticket number below, they can
tell you who it might be.

Again, sorry for the interruption, you may now return to your regularly
scheduled interruption.

Hmm. I'm a little surprised that no one's mentioned the easy fix here...
It'll need some clean up with the margins, but should create the desired
effect.

Also, there may be a better way to do this: I just banged it out on Saturday
morning in the 15 minutes before I had to go out.

#body {
  position: fixed;
  top: 72px;
  bottom: 0;
  left: 138px;
  overflow: auto;
  margin: 0;
  padding: 0;
}

Works exactly as desired, in Chrome on Linux. Don't have the time to check
FF, but probably works there too.

Duh! And that should work nicely in good browsers.
What about adding html {overflow-y:hidden} to avoid a double vertical
scrollbar?

I'm looking into this (in part by responding to your message) and
think I know what's going on here, but can't yet be totally sure.
It's complicated by the fact that no 'midphase' or 'mpcustomer'

[css-d] Pseudo Element after:not to include images?

2010-05-10 Thread Susan Grossman
I can't seem to figure out how to leave out any images in a pseudo element
selector for off-site links. The following blocks the domains fine and
attaches to all other outside links (except IE), but sometimes images are
linked and need to be excluded.

a:not([href^=".com"]):not([href^=".com"]):after { content:"\279F"; }

Have tried things like:

a:after img { content:none !important; }

.. obviously wrong syntax. Any suggestions?

[css-d] Help with center container

2010-05-10 Thread Ken Davies
Hello I am trying again to rebuild my website, older and it seems only a
little wiser. In essence three columns/boxes where center div expands
and moves images.
http://www.equestrian-jewelry.com/horse_and%20equine_jewelry_for_equestrians.htm
 Page is valid css and validates html 4.01 strict. I want to rebuid site
by using css to replace "gallery container" as needed. Trying also to
put div on right which I will use for "clearances or such". Ultimately
will use the "more info" link in gallery container as a paypal type link.
Main problem -Cross browser div with images buries under left nav menu
and right div. I have tried and retried for many hours various position,
float margins etc. Also the popup should be over top of the right "column"
Page shows what I want in Firefox (with the exception of the
gallerycontainer getting lost under the menu, almost in IE6. In Opera 9
complete gallery div is active. Google Chrome it is close.
I realize many people on this list are really up to date but my customer
base is often remote and slower to update computers etc so IE6 is still
important to me. Also I like some dark backgounds suggested in the
past( black) but personnaly prefer the readability of the light background.
Thanks for taking a look

Maybe the replies to my post will help you. My post has the subject
"Anchor offset ?" I don't know if you have been following the list or
just joined to ask your question. My post is recent, last few days. I
think you can get to the archives from one of those URLs above in the
list's auto signature. Sorry I have been on the list very long so I
don't have a direct URL to the archives.

The center column expansion is problematic and for the time being, at
least, it may be beneficial to hold an overall fixed width. This is at
980px and quick checked only: IE 6/7/8, Chrome, Safari, SeaMonkey, and
Firefox. Note revison of both css and the markup.

If I understand correctly, you want those 'external' links to display a
right-pointing arrow next to the linked text, but those external links that
contain an image should not have that arrow. Correct ?
(as always, linking to a minimal test case makes things much easier to
understand…).

> Have tried things like:
>
> a:after img { content:none !important; }

Obviously, that won't work, given the syntax above. The generated content is
applied to the link, not the image, child of that link.
And also note the last paragraph under CSS 2.1:12.1 regarding replace elements
http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/generate.html#before-after-content

What you'll need to do is append a class to those links that contain an image,
then write you selector thusly:
a:not([href^=".com"]):not([href^=".com"]):not([class="image-in-link"]):after
 { content:"\279F"; }

CSS has no provisions, to date, to do reverse lookup, of the type
a:contains(img) or the like. There have been various proposals to the css-wg
but none worked out so far

Thank you - I knew I had it crooked, though I was hoping to apply without
back adding a class (existing content).

Really appreciate this, it works correctly.

What say we just send this to the list and ask their opinion? Other
people on the list may wish to contribute their thoughts. I just try to
cope with really simple stuff. Questions of more profound and complex

Best,
