[CTRL] Jim: God Bless You, Bill and Hillary!

1998-12-23 Thread Edward Britton

 -Caveat Lector-

Jim:

And I thought I was the only one who had been forgotten by the mother ship!
If anyone had told me, say, 20 years ago, that I would be besieged with
news reports of my president's latest blow jobs and treasonous/murderous
activities, I would have told them squarely that they were NUTZ! Alas,
who's the nut now?

We live in a culture which daily surpasses the bizarre!

Edward

Did she say whether or not he was a good lay?... I'm sorry. I didn't
mean to say that. I'm losing my sense of decorum. . Sometimes I play a
little mind game with myself - I go back 20 or 25 years or so and have an
imaginary time traveler approach me and describe my life (and the world)
as it
is today. Then I laugh uproariously at the stupid time traveler. Can any of
this really be happening? No, really!?! Wait a minute! Who is that guy over
there smoking the cigarette and talking to somebody I don't see? My god, it's
him! It's Rod Serling! I knew it all along. And I feel much better now.

Re: [CTRL] Liars Butler, Clinton, and Cohen destroyed re: Iraq At...

1998-12-23 Thread Jim Condit Jr.

 -Caveat Lector-

I want to be on record at this time as considering the below comments by
Jerry Harp absolutely ridiculous and desperate. Always the personal attack
-- this time against Scott Ritter, who still supports dethroning Saddam
(I'd go for that too, as Saddam was originally a CIA asset) and also
supports the UN's "snoopy nose" operation inside Iraq (which I do not). I
might modify or reverse the above comments if Mr. Harp can produce evidence
that Ritter was "defanged" for being a hothead. As I recall, he was not
fired -- he quit for other reasons long before this incident. Ritter nails
the coffin shut on the "dead on arrival" claim by Clinton, Cohen, and
Butler that the timing of the bombing had nothing to do with the
impeachment vote. Clinton hoped to postpone it past Christmas hoping some
other strategy could be worked out, as all democrats demonstrated by saying
"We can't vote on impeachment with our boys in harm's way" --- but Hyde
went ahead anyway. And what a different attitude for the Dems that they
exhibited during the Vietnam war! Nobody worried about criticizing the Prez
with 500,000 boys REALLY in harm's way, not the phony "harm's way" involved
in the recent "push button" way, to steal a phrase from pundit Robert Novak
(Capital Gang, CNN). Jim Condit Jr.

Re: [CTRL] The Joshua Report

1998-12-23 Thread MARK

 -Caveat Lector-

Lets turn this on its head. Don't you think that people who propagate
this sort of propaganda, are trying to create disorder, and collapse
unity in the world.

That these people are looking for an excuse to infiltrate and poison our
minds to create unrest, therefore weakening society to such a state that
they can manipulate it to their own nefarious means.

It's a classic double cross syndrome, perpetuated to break the very
foundations of society.

Re: [CTRL] Di ?

1998-12-23 Thread MARK

 -Caveat Lector-

I think he says the following:-

"Hi it's me, is it done?
"Is it done?
"That's all I needed to know, O.K.
"Is she definitely dead
"?...'bout the boyfriend?
"That's rather good
either "O.K." or "I don't care"
"I suppose Harrods is going to be closed down for a couple of days
"Speak to you later"

That is what I think it says, there are bits that I can't make out 100%
because of that annoying noise, like rustling paper.

It's very hard to make out. I thought it said something about Harrods being closed
down? It certainly sounded very suspicious. The voice seemed to be confirming that
something had been carried out? I don't know, maybe i'm wrong.

I know for a fact that M.A.R.K. is currently writing a book concerning the death of

happening to him. M.A.R.K., if you are reading this please can you elaborate on your

 -Caveat Lector-

It's true, I have received many pieces of information regarding a
cover-up of huge proportions. However, at present I am unable to
comment on these until futher verification has been carried out.

Yes, I have had to suspend writing on the book, due to some unusual
'phone calls, and certain things that have happened.

3 times in the last 2 months my credit cards have been cancelled for no
apparent reason. I have been stopped for "random checks" in my car by
the police on what seems like a weekly basis, and have only just managed
to scupper rumours that have been set in motion to discredit me.

Life is, indeed, becoming increasingly difficult for me, however, I will
persevere, because I know that once the information that I have is
released, nothing will be quite the same again.

May i just say on behalf of myself and (i presume) the rest of the list, that you have

suffering) at this time.

The truth needs to be exposed and that's why we are here.

--when pressing their stomach, they babble their own language...but they
aren't as 'interactive' as the Furbies (neither do they have fur coats,
blinking eyes, wiggling ears, etc.), and so lost this year's holiday
competition...

At least Tellytubbies don't fart...but it was reported that one
particular type of Tellytubby was repeatedly stating the word 'faggot',
initiating a recall a few months ago...

[CTRL] The New Australian

1998-12-23 Thread Linda Minor

 -Caveat Lector-

Here's an interesting defense of laissez-faire capitalism. What he doesn't
mention is that the people who bought the bonds to develop the railroads,
power plants, etc. got the cash from drug trafficking, just as they do
today.

Linda

-
 from:

http://www.newaus.com.au/wash.html

Natural resources don't make you rich. Some of the poorest nations of Africa
have cornucopias of diamonds, gold, minerals, rubber, and other resources,
but their people still fall asleep hungry each day. Education doesn't make
you rich. The Soviet Union produced armies of engineers and scientists for
decades, and the population's life expectancy at the end of the socialist
'experiment' was lower than it had been in Czarist times. Socialism
certainly doesn't make you rich, its record this century has been one of
unspeakable horror, if only the solidly unionized left in our teaching
institutions and newspaper offices would ever bother to notice.

The factors necessary are a relatively high degree of political and economic
liberty, with limited government, hard money, and low taxes. Even a limited
period of laissez-faire can raise a country's standard of living for decades
after: an unlimited period, which should have been our inheritance, would
produce wealth on an unimaginable scale. Within living memory, a high degree
of laissez-faire with no government interference transformed Hong Kong, a
tiny, hilly, rocky outcrop with no natural resources, into the most
enterprising and productive city on earth, and a great financial center.

The specter of the 'robber baron' was invoked again recently by the merger
of Mobil and Exxon, two companies which once formed part of the Standard Oil
Trust. There is even talk that Texaco may become part of the merger, and
gutter journalists are writing of the vampire-like reemergence of John D.
Rockefeller from the grave.

Well, we can only hope. Economically, this country is running on empty, and
the only people who can raise the living standards of the poorer people in
America are the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, the Morgans and the Fricks :
Hillary Clinton can't do it. She never could. Do you know that Rockefeller's
production once equaled one sixty fourth of the whole gross domestic product
of the United States? That one man could produce such an enormous surplus of
wealth is extraordinary — and how was he thanked for it by the government? I
hope all of the old Standard Oil reconsolidates: it will be justice, albeit
belated.

Without the encroaching and enfeebling statism which has exhausted this
country's inventive minds and creative spirits more and more, especially
since FDR's presidency, we would be enjoying the same growth, the same sense
of excitement and creative adventure, as the old Hong Kong. And our standard
of living would, today, be at a height beyond conceiving, because we already
had the industrial infrastructure and investment capital, while HK started
from next to nothing after World War II. And yet, as the Microsoft antitrust
case shows, the American government is still at it; still trying to punish
the successful for the heinous crime of success.

To clearly state the fact once more: the difference between you and a
starving beggar in the streets of Delhi is, more than anything else, a
difference created by the robber barons — not because they made the beggar
poor, he was always poor, and pretty much represents Man's living state
before the industrial revolution. But their great industry did make you
rich. And I hope you are thankful.

I would like to make one other comment on this issue, that I inadvertently
asked Kris to scan for us without thinking. There definitely is at least one
thing that we can do to keep issues before the public eye and hopefully cause
some things to be brought into the light of day, and that is to support
magazines like Steamshovel Press by buying it and spreading the word so that
it will stay in production. I used to subscribe to it back before the printer
problems and was greatly impressed with it's content and am sure that Kenn has
kept up the same level of writing. I have all of my magazines still and often
refer back to them. Kenn please post the address and subscription information

The Finders' Keeper: An Interview with Marion Pettie

By Kenn Thomas and Len Bracken,©1998

A 1994 reference work- on utopian communities refers to the Finders as "a
rather spontaneous non-organization ... Their overall approach to life is to
make it into a game--a challenging and educational process where the rules
change from week to week, day to day, sometimes even by the hour." Contrast
that with investigator Ted Gunderson's handwritten description, attached to
Treasury Department memoranda on the Finders that Ted Gunderson circulates in
a info-packet about the group: "the Finders are a "CIA front established in
the 1960s. It has TOP CLEARANCE and PROTECTION in its ASSIGNED task of
kidnapping and torture-programming young children throughout the US. Members
are specially trained GOVERNMENT KIDNAPPERS known to be sexual degenerates who
involve children in Satanic sex orgies and bloody rituals as well as murders
of other children and slaughter of animals."

The Finders group found itself in the news in February 1987 when an anonymous
caller phoned police to report two formally dressed men (Michael Houlihan and
Douglas Ammerman) supervising six casually dressed children--according to
police, they were unkempt, disheveled and bruised--at Myers Park in
Tallahassee, Florida. The police charged the men, members of the Finders, with
child abuse, and Detective Jim Bradley of the metropolitan police in
Washington, DC, used the arrest as a pretext to raid one of the Finders'
properties there, Bradley's men seized evidence they said may have been
indicative of an organized ring of pedophilic child kidnappers who made animal
sacrifices to Satan.

A report by Customs Special Agent Ramon J. Martinez claimed that documents
found at the Finders property "revealed detailed instructions for obtaining
children for unspecified purposes. The instructions included the impregnation
of female members of the community known as the Finders, purchasing children,
trading, and kidnapping. One telex specifically ordered the purchase of two
children in Hung Kong to be arranged through a contact in the Chinese embassy
there-" Martinez also reported that the seized Finders evidence included
"numerous photos of children, some nude, at least one of which was a photo of
a child 'on display' and appearing to accent the child's genitals ... a series
of photos of adults and children dressed in white sheets participating in a
"blood ritual." The ritual centered around the execution, disembowelment,
skinning and dismemberment of the goats at the hands of the children, this
included the removal of the testes of a male goat, the discovery of a female
goat's 'womb' and the 'baby goats' inside the womb and the presentation of a
goat's head to one of the children."

Despite this, charges against the men in Tallahassee were dropped, the
children were sent home to their parents unharmed (although the court attached
conditions to the return of two of them), and prosecutions were not pursued in
DC. Police authorities both in DC and Florida complained that the case was
mishandled because the Finders work for the CIA. When Martinez went to meet
with Detective Bradley to review the case, he was directed to a third party
who advised that all the passport data from the seized Finders material check
out as legal According to Martinez, "the individual further advised me of
circumstances which indicated that the investigation into the activity of the
Finders had become a CIA internal matter. The MPD (DC metropolitan police)
report has been classified secret and was not available for review. I was
advised that the FBI had withdrawn from the investigation several weeks prior
and that FBI Foreign Counter Intelligence Division had directed MPD not to
advise the FBI Washington Field office of anything that had transpired."

The Justice Department released Martinez's report and other documents about
the Finders when it opened a new investigation into the group's activities in
1993, in part to determine if the CIA had put the kibosh on the 1987
investigation. One memo claimed that the "CIA made one contact and admitted to
owning the Finders organization as a front for a domestic computer training
operation, but that it had gone bad." The operation, called Future
Enterprises, had hired a Finder, but dismissed him when his connection to the
group was exposed. North Carolina's Democratic representative Charlie Rose and
Florida's Republican representative Tom Lewis supported and publicized that
investigation, as did a former CIA

[12/22] RJR unit says guilty of aiding cigarette smugglers
WASHINGTON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - A R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International Inc.
affiliate pleaded guilty to aiding cigarette smuggling and agreed to pay $15
million in fines and compensation, the Justice Department said on Tuesday.
Northern Brands International Inc. pleaded guilty to helping customers avoid
more than $2.5 million in U.S. excise taxes on cigarettes.

"Today's guilty plea may be the first time an affiliate of a major tobacco
company has been convicted of a federal crime in the United States," U.S.
Attorney Thomas Maroney of the Northern District of New York said in a
statement.

Customers of Northern Brands smuggled Canadian made cigarettes, designated
for export to Estonia or Russia, back into Canada from free trade zones in
the United States, Justice Department officials said.

More than 25,000 cases of Northern Brands cigarettes were smuggled this way
in 26 shipments between August 1994 and June 1995. The cigarettes were
carried from New York into Canada across the Regis Mohawk Indian
Reservation, which straddles the U.S.-Canadian border.

Northern Brands, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., was established to take
advantage of this lucrative trade, Maroney said. He declined to comment if
officers of R.J. Reynolds were aware of the scheme.

U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy, who sentenced Northern Brands, ordered
the company to pay $5 million in criminal fines and $10 million into the
U.S. Treasury Asset Forfeiture Fund, which can be used to help defray the
cost to agencies involved in this investigation.

In addition to today's guilty plea, the four-year-long investigation has
resulted in more than 20 individual felony convictions for smuggling.

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is a unit of RJR Nabisco Holdings Co. [RN].

``The market power that would be created or exacerbated by this merger would
limit the choices of patients and employers, reduce competition and further
erode the ability of physicians to make medical decisions based on science
and the medical needs of their patients, not share price,'' Anderson said.

Aetna agreed on Dec. 10 to acquire Prudential's health care business in a
deal that would make it the country's largest managed care company, with
18.4 million members.

In his letter, Anderson said the new firm would be large enough to dictate
prices and plan options to employers and patients.

A spokeswoman at Aetna's Hartford, Conn., headquarters disputed the AMA's
conclusions as a ``misperception'' of Aetna's commitment to quality.

The spokeswoman said the company was disappointed that the AMA was seeking
to block the deal. She said Aetna had met with AMA representatives several
times to try to address the association's concerns, but AMA had not
contacted Aetna before writing to the Justice Department.

``We don't really see that the facts bear out any of their statements,'' the
spokeswoman said. ``From our perspective, we have very strong competition in
managed care, both from national players as well as some very strong local
health care plans. We are really concerned about their misperception about
our commitment to quality.''

AMA's Anderson said the deal would allow the new company to drive medical
decisions based on financial and stockholder expectations and to diminish
patients' ability to receive quality care.

``Aetna has used its current market position to impose unreasonable contract
provisions on physicians that define medically necessary services as 'the
least costly of alternative supplies or levels of service','' Anderson said.

Anderson said that, unlike Aetna, AMA shares its medical standards with the
public so that they can be subject to critical review.

``The medical policies adopted by Aetna and other payers are frequently
proprietary and secret and, therefore, cannot be critically evaluated,''
Anderson said.

``Moreover, Aetna's ultimate responsibility is to its shareholders, not to
the medical needs of each patient. We are convinced that 'bigger' in the
health care marketplace does not always result in 'better' outcomes for
patients,'' he said.

Shares of Aetna were up $1.25 at $80.94.

THIS page is designed to give readers easy access to ET's archive of
material written by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, the Sunday Telegraph's
ex-Washington correspondent, from 1994 - 97.

His articles on the Clinton administration have created enormous
interest in Britain and the US and have been widely quoted on the
Internet.

Last year, Mr Evans-Pritchard's notoriety with the White House reached a
peak when he was accused of delving into the murky realms of conspiracy
theorism. In a 331-page report, its legal office attacked journalists
whose unflinching focus on scandal was wrecking President Clinton's
reputation.

According to the report, "right-wing" think tanks and British newspapers
fed "conspiracy theories and innuendo" to scandal-hungry UK journalists
in America. The resulting articles were then picked up on by US
mainstream press, and fed to the public as "real" stories.

Mr Evans-Pritchard was singled out as a trouble maker who was part of a
well-organised "media food chain" of events. His response was swift. He
responded to the "shameless propaganda", which accused him of working
for a London "tabloid", with: Why is Clinton persecuting me? written on
Jan 12 1997.

He wrote: "Once again, it seems that the White House is willing
deliberately to propagate outright lies. . .

"They have been caught using the office of the presidency to run a smear
campaign against journalists and political opponents, turning the White
House into an adjunct of the Democratic National Committee.

"Even Richard Nixon, at the height of Watergate, was cautious not to
venture so far out into these perilous waters."

But the White House was not the first to publicly question Mr
Evans-Pritchard's journalistic credibility. In 1995, the Washington
Post, in a front page article on the "Foster conspiracy theorists",
attacked the Sunday Telegraph and its outspoken correspondent.

In response, he turned the tables on the US newspaper with the article:
America's top newspaper has pointed the finger at our man in Washington.
Now it's his turn, written on July 10.

Candid as ever, he wrote: "My straitjacket is buckled tight. The foam is
wiped off my mouth. A bottle of sedatives sits at hand. I am cool, calm
and ready to answer on behalf of all "conspiracy theorists". And I say
to the powers of the Washington Post: 'J'accuse.'"

It is not just the political manoeuvrings of Bill Clinton that have been
subjected to Mr Evans-Pritchard's steely gaze, however. He has also
written on the alleged drug use of the president, America's partial
birth abortion industry, which he describes as "essentially
infanticide", and on the controversial issue of "child abuse
witch-hunts". These are to name but a few.

On his departure from his position as Washington correspondent in April
1997, the White House breathed a collective sigh of relief. It was
quoted as saying in George magazine: "That's another British invasion
we're glad is over. The guy was nothing but a pain in the ass".

But with this statement barely hot off the press, Mr Evans-Pritchard
took up the gauntlet with the article: Goodbye, good riddance on April
20 1997: "Critics tell me that I have invested too much emotion in my
quarrel with the Clintons. To that I plead guilty. It comes from
befriending so many of their victims.

"I am content to be blacklisted as the "mad scribbler" - as the
Washington Post called me this week - for I am confident that one day
historians are going to view Clinton as a the last great cad of the 20th
century, or worse."

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard continues to comment on the Clinton saga, as our
wealth of links will testify.

If these polls are accurate then it's not a new president we
need... It's a new country... It's funny yet frustrating how the people
that have less interest in what actually is going on are the ones who have
the power to vote in what they desire because of the simple fact that the
ignorant outnumber the truth seekers. I don't think when they formed the

Missing Chemicals Found in Bin, Ending an FBI Investigation

AP
23-DEC-98

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Twenty-five tons of ammonium nitrate that
disappeared from a farm supply store in July has reappeared in the same bin
from which it vanished, ending an FBI investigation that initially focused on
a possible terrorist threat.

The stolen chemical was returned last month to Bruceton Farm Services in
Bruceton Mills, FBI spokesman Bill Crowley said Tuesday.

The ammonium nitrate was believed stolen for use as fertilizer for a local
farmers' field. But the FBI initially considered more ominous possibilities,
such as that it was being used to make terrorists' bombs, and at one point
offered $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the
theft.

"We did not find any link to terrorism, and we have closed our investigation,"
Crowley said.

Ammonium nitrate was a key ingredient in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
The explosion killed 168 people and injured hundreds of others.

India's Christians Say Intolerance Rising under Hindu Nationalists

AP
23-DEC-98

RAJKOT, India (AP) -- They stormed in without warning, 300 men who burned
Bibles and told Hindu students that their Christian school was trying to
subvert their religion.

"They said, 'This religion is not worth following,"' said Vibha Ghare, 15, a
Hindu who attends the I.P. Mission School. The school is run by Christians,
but two-thirds of its students and staff are Hindu.

This western Indian city is better known as the hometown of Mohandas Gandhi, a
Hindu and India's messiah of nonviolence and religious tolerance. But lately,
Rajkot and surrounding Gujrat state are becoming known for what Christian
leaders say is growing intolerance linked to the rise to power of the Hindu
nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.

The mob that ransacked the school was searching for copies of the New
Testament that had been distributed by a traveling Christian group. As the
children watched, the attackers made a bonfire of 400 Bibles and told the
students, all girls, that the school was conspiring to make them marry
Christian men so they would be forced to become Christian.

"This is completely false," said S.H. Desai, an Indian Christian who is
principal of the 103-year-old school in Rajkot. "They think, 'These are
Christians, very few in number, let's intimidate them,"'

Christians make up just 2.5 percent of India's nearly 1 billion people, while
Hindus account for 80 percent of the population and Muslims 12 percent.
Despite their small numbers, Christians have a certain prominence because
schools founded by missionaries are among the most prestigious in India. Hindu
parents compete to enroll their children.

The attack on the I.P. Mission School was one of more than 90 violent
incidents aimed at Christians in 1998, according to the United Christian Forum
for Human Rights, a group of lay Christians. The group says that was more than
in any other year since India's independence in 1947.

The forum blames what it says is an atmosphere of intolerance that has
accompanied the Bharatiya Janata Party's political rise. The party won
national elections in March and heads the national governing coalition. It
also controls the state government in Gujrat.

Despite the troubles, the Christian community appears festive as Christmas
approaches. For now, fear of assault has eased. The government, under
political pressure, has tried to curb attacks during the holidays.

On Dec. 4, Christian schools across India closed for a day in protest over the
violence. The Roman Catholic archbishop of New Delhi, Alan de Lastic,
addressed 5,000 demonstrators at a rally in the capital.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has condemned attacks on Christians. But
his government also denies there is any orchestrated anti-Christian campaign
and questions the United Christian Forum's numbers of such attacks.

In some cases, violence described as anti-Christian may have other
explanations. For instance, several men broke into a convent in a remote area
in central India in September and raped four nuns; police later arrested 24
suspects, half of them Christians and half Hindus.

But the forum and Indian news media have recounted serious violence toward
Christians. In April, a mob razed a Catholic church in western India. Earlier,
a priest in the eastern state of Bihar was beaten and paraded naked by a mob
who accused him of sodomizing a boy.

Christians maintain the violence is being fanned by Hindu right-wing groups
closely linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party -- the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, or
World Hindu Council, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, or National
Volunteer Corps.

"The Christians are making a fuss because they are afraid that Hindus who have
converted to Christianity want to return to their religion," said Kishorebhai
Mangalpara, a Hindu activist in Rajkot.

Hindu groups say missionaries take advantage of the poverty and backwardness
of lower caste Hindus and tribal groups, beguiling them into becoming
Christians at revival meetings where they claim to work miracles.

Although there are no overt calls for conversions at Christian schools, subtle
pressures exist. In Catholic schools run by nuns and priests, prayers are held
several times a day. In boarding schools, non-Christian children sometimes are
required to pray and are encouraged to go to chapel and read the Bible.

Lower-caste Hindus considered social pariahs in their own religion and
indigenous peoples have been drawn to Christian missionaries who run schools,
hospitals and homes for the poor. Many conversions occurred in tribal areas
where extreme poverty goes hand in hand with exploitation by upper-caste Hindu
landlords.

UN Warns of Further Famine in Southern Sudan

Africa News Service
23-DEC-98

NAIROBI, Kenya (PANA, 12/23/98) - The United Nations warned Wednesday here
that famine could threaten millions of people in southern Sudan again next
year unless the government in Khartoum and rebels agree to extend an existing
partial ceasefire in the country's civil war.

Although millions of dollars from donors helped to alleviate the effects of
famine in southern Sudan in 1998, the food situation remains fragile, said
Operation Lifeline Sudan (OLS), a UN-created organ grouping several relief
agencies which operates from northern Kenya.

"Many people are surviving on a fragile base which insecurity could easily
shatter," said Philippe Borel, head of the OLS which cordinates most
humanitarian relief efforts in Sudan.

A six month old cesefire between the governemnt and the rebels of the southern
Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), which applies only to the worst
affected southern province of Bahr el Ghazal, expires 15 January.

Borel said in a statement that a renewal of the ceasefire was essential to
avert another famine in 1999. He appealed for its scope to be extended.

OLS said more than four million Sudanese in the Bahr el Ghazal and Upper Nile
regions of the south and Kassala in the north faced a bleak 1999. The UN World
Food Programme says that more than two million people will need 150,000 tonnes
of food between now and October 1999.

According to OLS officials, UN agencies alone have spent around 200 million US
dollars in Sudan in 1998, most of it in the south, to fly and air-drop food
and medical help in the drought and war striken region.

Although malnutrition rates in the Bahar el Ghazal region have dropped
sharply, the crisis is not yet over - especially after drought gave way to
some of the worst flooding in the latter part of 1998.

SPLA rebels of the mainly Christian and animist south have been fighting the
muslim-dominated Khartoum government since 1983 in a civil war that is
estimated to have cost more than 1.5 million lives.

AIDS Herbs Cocktail Said to Cure AIDS-related Ailments

Africa News Service
23-DEC-98

BLANTYRE, Malawi (PANA, 12/23/98) - The Catholic Church in Malawi claims a
number of AIDS patients in the country have been cured of AIDS-related
illnesses through the use of local herbs such as aloe vera, frangipani, guava
leaves, sweet potatoes and okra.

Sr. Lilia Conol of the AIDS Patients Home-Based Care Unit of the Church told
reporters the use of a cocktail of the herbs have successfully cured
AIDS-related ailments like shingles.

"People have been cured of shingles and mouth sores after using these herbs,"
she said.

Conol, therefore, called for concerted efforts between the government and
other stakeholders to promote the use of herbal medicines instead of relying
on "very expensive cocktails from the West."

Gracian Namanja of the same project said they are already working on treatment
guidelines. Plans are also underway to establish gardens in all the seven
dioceses in the country for further research.

The church will work hand-in-hand with the National AIDS Control Programme,
the ministry of health and the World Health Organisation to persue the
discovery.

"We know that if indeed these are certified as cures they will be very
accessible and affordable to the common man hence our interest to persue the
initiative," Namanja added.

Malawi has one of the highest AIDS figures. Recent reports say that over
900,000 people in the country have been tested HIV-positive.

The Catholic church's claim for a cure come three years after that of 1995
when a 79-year-old local medicine man caused a flurry of excitement when he
claimed to have dreamt of a cure for AIDS.

For six months, many Malawians and people from as far as the US, England and
neighbouring countries flocked to his hitherto little-known village in the
southern district of Machinga to sip the herbal concoction.

The government issued a cautious warning against believing the cure but some
people still claim to have been cured todate.

French Citizen Suit Targets ''Baby Doc'' Duvalier

Reuters
23-DEC-98

PARIS, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Exiled former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude "Baby
Doc" Duvalier has been ordered to appear in court in March to answer a private
citizen's complaint that he lacks French residency papers, a lawyer said on
Wednesday.

Lawyer Christophe Wacquet, representing Jacques Samyn of France's Picardie
region, said Duvalier would be required to attend a March 11 hearing on his
residential status before a French court in Grasse, southern France, his last
known address.

Normally, such a demand would be made by the state. But French law allows
private citizens to file a complaint in the event the state fails to act, and
the state prosecutors in Grasse are obliged to act on the complaint, Wacquet
said.

Duvalier's lawyer Herve Cabeli, contacted by Reuters, called the move
"judicially absurd" but declined to say whether his client would appear.

The complaint about Duvalier's residency status was the second legal action
under way in France against the former dictator.

The arrest of former Chilean ruler Augusto Pinochet in Britain on an
extradition request by Spain mobilised Haitians in both Haiti and France
earlier this month to prepare a similar case against the former Haitian
leader.

Duvalier, who took power in Haiti in 1971 on the death of his father, Francois
Duvalier or "Papa Doc," has been living in France since he was overthrown in
1986 and flown to exile by the U.S. military.

His current whereabouts are unclear but his lawyer said recently that he is
still in France. Paris has turned down his request for political asylum.

If Duvalier were found by the court to be living in France illegally, he could
be sentenced to up to a year in prison, fined up to 25,000 francs ($4,500) and
banned from French territory.

President-Elect Vows to Shake up Oil Monopoly

AP
23-DEC-98

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- It's one of the world's largest oil companies and
an island of efficiency in a country wracked by bureaucratic anarchy.

But President-elect Hugo Chavez is vowing to shake up Petroleos de Venezuela,
or PDVSA, the state-owned oil monopoly he claims has become an elitist,
money-squandering giant accountable to no one.

"PDVSA has become a state within a state," he said at a news conference hours
after his landslide Dec. 6 victory. "That is going to end in the
administration of Hugo Chavez Frias."

His plans for the No. 1 foreign supplier of oil to the United States and the
franchiser of 14,500 U.S. gas stations through its Citgo Petroleum Corp. are
alarming PDVSA executives who fear he will dismantle the company that is
Venezuela's biggest source of export earnings. They worry a government shakeup
will derail or slow a multibillion-dollar expansion plan involving Mobil
Corp., Exxon Corp., Atlantic Richfield Co. and others.

"There is no company that is more supervised, controlled or audited than
PDVSA," said Luis Giusti, the company's highly regarded, University of
Tulsa-trained president. He boasts of PDVSA's international reputation for
excellence.

Chavez, who led a failed 1992 coup attempt against the government, already has
announced that he will fire Giusti, divert some of PDVSA's profits to social
spending and rein in plans to sharply boost production.

At the election-night press conference, he denounced the company's
"Saudi-style use of airplanes, out-of-control costs and gold-card culture" in
a country where public hospitals lack needles and bandages and well over half
the population lives in poverty.

Giusti scoffs at the attack.

"A CEO of Exxon earns $5 million a year. We earn $250,000 a year," he said,
adding that he's received job offers that "maybe will allow me to live like a
rich man."

Venezuela nationalized its oil industry in 1976, booting out international
companies and giving PDVSA exclusive control over the world's largest proven
oil reserves outside the Middle East. The foreign companies that are now
permitted to pump Venezuelan oil must sell all of their output to PDVSA.

But Chavez and other critics claim PDVSA has hijacked the nation's oil policy,
creating tax havens for its own benefit and blocking external audits.

"There is no control, not by the Ministry of Energy and Mines ... nor the
Congress, nor the comptroller general, not even the president of the
republic," says Chavez.

One result is that the company maintains overseas operations such as Tulsa,
Okla.-based Citgo and Veba Oel AG in Germany that barely turn a profit, he
says. "It's a mystery."

Giusti defends Citgo, the fourth-largest gas station chain in the United
States in terms of market share, as providing a guaranteed distribution outlet
for Venezuelan oil, and rejects charges that PDVSA escapes government
oversight. Citgo reported earnings of $211.2 million on revenue of $8.5
billion for the first nine months of this year.

Industry experts say PDVSA has become highly independent partly by default
because the government is so disorganized.

The government often turns to PDVSA's huge pool of professionals for help on
everything from setting up a foreign exchange control system to solving the
Year 2000 computer problem.

PDVSA officials fear Chavez may appoint inexperienced people who could ruin
the company. They also fear he may raid its coffers to finance a growing
national budget deficit now estimated at $5 billion. Oil accounts for about
three-quarters of Venezuela's export earnings.

"You could quickly wreck the company, which would be disastrous," said Robert
Gay, Latin America strategist at New York-based investment bank BT Alex.
Brown. PDVSA "is the golden goose."

Chavez and PDVSA also are clashing over the company's plans to boost output
capacity of 3.8 million barrels a day to 5.8 million barrels a day by the year
2007. To help meet that goal, Venezuela is inviting back industry giants such
as Mobil, Exxon and Conoco Inc., which are lining up billions of dollars to
invest in joint ventures with PDVSA.

Chavez says the plan is too much, too fast, and he wants the foreign companies
to focus on refining crude oil and producing petrochemical products instead of
just drilling wells and exporting crude oil.

He argues that a worldwide cut in production orchestrated by the Organization
of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is what's needed to boost prices that
this year hit a 12-year low.

That collapse in oil prices not only has hit PDVSA, but also forced Venezuela
to slash its national budget by $2 billion as revenue from the oil monopoly
dried up.

PDVSA, which has a long history of cheating on OPEC production limits, says
long-term production cutbacks would be unrealistic. Its officials argue the
days of strictly enforced OPEC quotas are over. If Venezuela cuts its
production

OPINION POLLING -- MASS POLLUTION WITH AN AGENDA

Under Marxism, the term "politically correct" referred to
any large scale government injustice that had to be to be
whitewashed to look necessary. "Politically correct" was a way
to make excuses for being afraid of the rational search for
truth or the use of common sense. Modern political correctness
has been tamed somewhat, it is now merely a means for
brainwashing and indoctrination, a way to keep people from
 saying "that's criminal!"

The single, most important organizational component of this
conspiracy was a Communist thinktank called the Institute for
Social Research (I.S.R.), but popularly known as the Frankfurt
 School.

Here, then, were some potent theories of social control.
The great possibilities of this Frankfurt School media work were
probably the major contributing factor in the support given the
I.S.R. by the bastions of the Establishment, after the Institute
transferred its operations to America in 1934. In 1937, the
Rockefeller Foundation began funding research into the social
effects of new forms of mass media, particularly radio.

Despite the official gloss, the activities of the Radio
Project make it clear that its purpose was to test empirically
the Adorno-Benjamin thesis that the net effect of the mass media
could be to atomize and increase lability -- what people would
 later call "brainwashing."

The efforts of the Radio Project conspirators to manipulate
the population, spawned the modern pseudoscience of PUBLIC
OPINION POLLING, in order to gain greater control over the
 methods they were developing.

Today, PUBLIC OPINION POLLS, like the television news, have
been completely integrated into our society. A "scientific
survey" of what people are said to think about an issue can be
produced in less than twenty-four hours. Some campaigns for high
political office are completely shaped by polls; in fact, many
politicians try to create issues which are themselves
meaningless, but which they know will look good in the polls,
purely for the purpose of enhancing their image as "popular."
Important policy decisions are made, even before the actual vote
of the citizenry or the legislature, by poll results.

This snowball has not stopped rolling since. The entire
development of television and advertising in the 1950's and
1960's was pioneered by men and women who were trained in the
Frankfurt School's techniques of mass alienation. Frank Stanton
went directly from the Radio Project to become the single most-
 important leader of modern television.

The idea of "PUBLIC OPINION" is not new, of course. Plato
spoke against it in his {Republic} over two millenia ago; Alexis
de Tocqueville wrote at length of its influence over America in
 the early nineteenth century.  But, nobody thought to {measure}
public opinion before the twentieth century, and nobody before
the 1930's thought to use those measurements for decision-making.

It is useful to pause and reflect on the whole concept.
The belief that public opinion can be a determinant of truth is
philosophically insane. It precludes the idea of the rational
individual mind. Every individual mind contains the divine spark
of reason, and is thus capable of scientific discovery, and
understanding the discoveries of others. The individual mind is
one of the few things that cannot, therefore, be "averaged."
Consider: at the moment of creative discovery, it is possible,
if not probable, that the scientist making the discovery is the
{only} person to hold that opinion about nature, whereas everyone
else has a different opinion, or no opinion. One can only
 imagine what a "scientifically-conducted survey" on Kepler's
model of the solar system would have been, shortly after he
published the {Harmony of the World}: 2% for, 48% against,
 50% no opinion.

These psychoanalytic survey techniques became standard, not
only for the Frankfurt School, but also throughout American
social science departments, particularly after the I.S.R. arrived
 in the United States.

The key to the entire Frankfurt School program, from
originator Lukacs on, is the "liberation" of Aristotelian {eros},
to make individual 'feeling states' psychologically primary.
When the I.S.R. leaders arrived in the United States in the mid-
1930's, they exulted that here was a place which had no adequate
 philosophical defenses against their brand of {Kulturpessimismus}
[cultural pessimism]. However, although the Frankfurt School
made major inroads in American intellectual life before World War
 II, that influence was largely confined to academia and to radio;
and radio, although important, did not yet have the overwhelming
influence on social life that it would acquire during the war.

 II. The Establishment Goes Bolshevik:

  "Entertainment" Replaces Art

Before the twentieth century, the distinction between art and
"entertainment" was much more pronounced. One could be
entertained by art, certainly, but the experience was active, not
passive. On the first level, one had to make a conscious choice
to go to a concert, to view a certain art exhibit, to buy a book
or piece of sheet music. It was unlikely that any more than an
infinitesimal fraction of the population would have the
opportunity to see {King Lear} or hear Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
more than once or twice in a lifetime. Art demanded that one
bring one's full powers of concentration and knowledge of the
subject to bear on each experience, or else the experience were
considered wasted. These were the days when memorization of
poetry and whole plays, and the gathering of friends and family
for a "parlor concert," were the norm, even in rural
households. These were also the days before "music
appreciation"; when one studied music, as many did, they learned
to play it, not appreciate it.

However, the new technologies of radio, film, and recorded
music represented, to use the appropriate Marxist buzz-word, a
dialectical potential. On the one hand, these technologies held
out the possibility of bringing the greatest works of art to
millions of people who would otherwise not have access to them.
On the other, the fact that the experience was infinitely
reproducible could tend to disengage the audience's mind, making
the experience less sacred, thus increasing alienation. Adorno
called this process, "demythologizing." This new passivity,
Adorno hypothesized in a crucial article published in 1938, could
fracture a musical composition into the "entertaining" parts
which would be "fetishized" in the memory of the listener, and
the difficult parts, which would be forgotten. Adorno continues,

The counterpart to the fetishism is a regression of listening.
This does not mean a relapse of the individual listener into an
earlier phase of his own development, nor a decline in the
collective general level, since the millions who are reached
musically for the first time by today's mass communications
cannot be compared with the audiences of the past. Rather, it is
the contemporary listening which has regressed, arrested at the
infantile stage. Not only do the listening subjects lose, along
with the freedom of choice and responsibility, the capacity for
the conscious perception of music [t]hey fluctuate between
comprehensive forgetting and sudden dives into recognition. They
listen atomistically and dissociate what they hear, but precisely
in this dissociation they develop certain capacities which accord
less with the traditional concepts of aesthetics than with those
of football or motoring. They are not childlike ... but they are
childish; their primitivism is not that of the undeveloped, but
 that of the {forcibly retarded}.

This conceptual retardation and preconditioning caused by
listening, suggested that programming could determine preference.
The very act of putting, say, a Benny Goodman number next to a
Mozart sonata on the radio, would tend to amalgamate both into
entertaining "music-on-the-radio" in the mind of the listener.
This meant that even new and unpalatable ideas could become
popular by "re-naming" them through the universal homogenizer
of the culture industry. As Benjamin puts it,

"Mechanical reproduction of art changes the reaction of the
masses toward art. The reactionary attitude toward a Picasso
painting changes into a progressive reaction toward a Chaplin
movie. The progressive reaction is characterized by the direct,
intimate fusion of visual and emotional enjoyment with the
orientation of the expert With regard to the screen, the
critical and receptive attitudes of the public coincide. The
decisive reason for this is that the individual reactions are
predetermined by the mass audience response they are about to
produce, and this is nowhere more pronounced than in the film."

At the same time, the magic power of the media could be used
to re-define previous ideas. "Shakespeare, Rembrandt, Beethoven
will all make films," concluded Benjamin, quoting the French
film pioneer {{Abel Gance}}, "... all legends, all mythologies,
all myths, all founders of religions, and the very religions
themselves ... await their exposed resurrection."

Judge Threatens Babbitt, Rubin

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A federal judge is threatening to hold Interior Secretary
Bruce Babbitt and Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin in contempt for the
government's delay in producing records of Indian trust funds.

The Interior and Treasury departments are being sued over the mishandling of
300,000 Indian accounts worth an estimated $500 million. Interior's Bureau of
Indian Affairs was ordered two years ago to turn over statements, checks and
other documents on accounts held by five Indians who are the lead plaintiffs
in the class-action lawsuit. So far, only a small amount of the documents have
been produced.

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, who has frequently clashed with the
Clinton administration, last week set a contempt hearing for Babbitt and Rubin
for Jan. 11.

``They've meddled with the wrong person here as far as stonewalling and
ignoring his orders,'' an attorney for the Indians, Robert Peregoy, said
Wednesday.

In a separate case, Lamberth on Tuesday accused Commerce Department officials
of illegally destroying evidence in connection with charges that the agency
sold slots on trade missions for donations to Democratic candidates. He's the
same judge who earlier fined the administration $286,000 for making inaccurate
statements about the makeup of its health care task force.

At a Dec. 15 hearing in the Indian case, government lawyers gave him a variety
of reasons for failing to turn over the records, including possible viral
contamination of two storage facilities in Albuquerque, N.M., and rodent
infestation at another site.

The government hopes to have the material by the hearing next month, said Ed
Cohen, an Interior Department lawyer.

``The plaintiffs have been aggressive in seeking records. We're doing the best
we can in producing them. We're doing this all at the same time that we're
trying to fix the system,'' he said.

The records that have been turned over have raised more questions about the
accounts. Of 67 checks issued by the government, only 11 had been endorsed by
the account holder, Peregoy said.

The records also indicate one of the plaintiffs was not awarded her portion of
her deceased father's land until more than 15 years after he died, according
to auditors hired by the plaintiffs.

The 300,000 accounts belong to individual Indians who receive royalties and
other income from their land. As much as $1 million has flowed through some of
the accounts in a single year, while others receive only a few dollars.

Top Blair Aide Resigns Cabinet Post

LONDON (AP) -- Peter Mandelson, the master strategist behind Prime Minister
Tony Blair's 1997 election win, resigned from the Cabinet on Wednesday
following questions about a big loan from a colleague.

Mandelson was instrumental in reviving a Labor Party battered into irrelevance
in the 1980s by internal feuding and unpopular policies. His departure left a
little mud sticking to a government that prided itself on high standards.

Mandelson, 45, resigned as secretary for trade and industry a day after The
Guardian newspaper disclosed that he had received a home loan of $625,000 in
1996 from fellow legislator Geoffrey Robinson.

Mandelson hadn't told Blair about that until last week, and he hadn't told his
department when it started investigating some of Robinson's business
interests. Hours after Mandelson stepped down, Robinson, 50, resigned as
paymaster general at the Treasury.

``We are all going to sleep easier because if it had carried on festering
horrendously over Christmas, the government would have suffered,'' said Rhodri
Morgan, a Labor lawmaker from Wales.

However, The Guardian said questions were now being raised about Robinson's
financial support for Gordon Brown, the Treasury chief, before last year's
election. The Treasury refused Tuesday to answer questions on that issue, The
Guardian said.

Robinson apologized to the House of Commons last month for failing to disclose
some of his financial interests, including a stake in an offshore trust.

Mandelson protested that he had not transgressed Blair's code of conduct, but
the case produced hostile headlines Wednesday. The Sun, the largest-
circulation tabloid, quoted Blair's past calls for Labor to be ``purer than
pure,'' and headlined: ``So how the hell can Mandy stay?''

``I should not, with all candor, have entered into the arrangement,''
Mandelson said in a resignation letter to Blair. ``I should, having done so,
have told you and other colleagues whose advice I value.''

Mandelson remains in Parliament and many expect him to return to prominence
after a period of penitence on the backbenches.

Stephen Byers, already in the Cabinet as chief secretary to the Treasury, will
replace Mandelson, Blair's office said.

Defending himself on Tuesday, Mandelson described himself and Robinson as
``fairly publicity-friendly, controversial, fairly exotic personalities.''

Robinson was controversial because of the way he used his wealth, and
sheltered it from taxes; Mandelson because of his power and his closeness to
Blair. Mandelson gave Labor a new red rose symbol in the 1980s, and he
masterminded the lavish Millennium Dome now rising in Greenwich that
symbolizes Blair's aspirations for Britain's future.

There was a media uproar last month when a columnist claimed on television
that Mandelson was gay. The claim was hardly new, but the BBC's order to its
reporters to not repeat it insured that it was widely reported everywhere
else.

Labor has stumbled before on money matters. After Blair backed an exemption
for Formula One racing from a proposed European ban on tobacco advertising in
sports, it was disclosed that Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone gave the
party $1.7 million before the election. Labor refunded his contribution.

Derek Draper, a former sidekick of Mandelson, was fired from a lobbying firm
after journalists caught him boasting that he could offer his paying clients
access to powerful figures in government.

Mandelson was born to politics. His grandfather, Herbert Morrison, was a
member of Winston Churchill's wartime Cabinet and briefly foreign secretary
under Labor Prime Minister Clement Attlee.

Mandelson won a seat in the House of Commons in 1992, and was promoted to the
Cabinet earlier this year.

Trie May Have Planned To Flee U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A fund-raiser who is at the heart of the investigation into
foreign donations to Democrats may have planned to flee overseas, a federal
prosecutor said Tuesday.

The attorney for Yah Lin ``Charlie'' Trie argued that his client -- upset over
his legal troubles and his wife's recent death -- simply made a mistake when
he applied for a Taiwanese passport, and the judge declined to jail Trie but
ordered new restrictions on his freedom.

Trie applied for the passport two weeks ago -- a day after he was last in
court for a hearing on federal conspiracy, obstruction of justice and witness
tampering charges related to his work for the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election
campaign.

Justice Department attorney Geoffrey Hobart said the FBI ``got lucky'' when it
received a tip about the passport application and that unless Trie is jailed
there is little to stop him from trying again. Trie, a Clinton friend and
former restaurateur in Little Rock, Ark., is free pending the first of two
trials on campaign-related charges.

``The timing is very odd,'' Hobart argued at a hurriedly scheduled hearing.
``It's beyond comprehension that Mr. Trie was unaware he was not supposed to
have a passport.''

Trie, who was born in China and has relatives in Taiwan, fled overseas when
congressional fund-raising investigations began in 1997. He returned
voluntarily in February and pleaded innocent to the charges. He was released
on a personal recognizance bond and surrendered his U.S. passport, along with
an expired Taiwanese one.

Defense lawyer Reid Weingarten said Trie blundered by applying for a new
passport, but never intended to flee. Trie instead hoped to get paperwork
started for an eventual permanent move to Taiwan when his legal troubles are
over, Weingarten said.

``Locking him up right now in anticipation of this trial, I think, is grossly
unfair and inappropriate,'' Weingarten argued, and an overreaction ``to a
mistake in judgment based on his lack of understanding of the system.''

Trie, who opened an international consulting business after Clinton's
election, is unemployed, essentially friendless and living as a houseguest
with a sister in Virginia Beach, Va., Weingarten said. Trie is dejected at his
legal plight and despondent over the recent death of his wife, Weingarten told
the judge.

``His life is shattered. He has no life.''

Trie is charged with giving and arranging illegal contributions to the
Democratic National Committee to buy access to Clinton and other top
officials.

Trie also faces a separate trial in Arkansas in April for allegedly ordering
an associate to hide documents subpoenaed during a Senate campaign finance
investigation.

U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman mused aloud that his trust might be
misplaced but refused to jail Trie. Friedman, who will oversee Trie's trial in
September, did order new restrictions, including a curfew.

``I'm troubled by this. If I'm wrong in placing my faith in him, then the
consequences are that he may leave the country and we may not be able to get
him back,'' Friedman said.

Trie is one of several foreign-born business owners charged as part of the
Justice Department's investigation into campaign finance abuses.

Trie opened an international business consulting company after Clinton became
president and frequently attended Democratic fund-raising dinners that
featured Clinton or Vice President Al Gore.

Democrats returned $645,000 that Trie either donated or raised after
determining the money came from questionable and possibly illegal sources.
Clinton's former legal defense fund returned $640,000 in contributions from
Trie.

Japanese Youth Crime on the Rise

TOKYO (AP) -- The number of serious crimes, including murder, committed by
Japanese youths surged during the first 11 months of this year, according to a
police report published Tuesday.

A total of 144,228 young people between the ages of 14 and 19 were arrested or
taken into protective custody for alleged criminal offenses through November,
the report said, up 3.1 percent from the same period last year.

The report also said 257 were arrested for serious crimes, including murder
and attempted murder.

That figure was the highest since police began compiling such statistics in
1972.

Rising juvenile delinquency has led to a new round of soul-searching about
Japan's education system and the way children are raised.

Previous discussions have cited the tremendous pressure on Japanese children
to conform, and to do well in highly competitive school examinations.

In one of the most prominent cases this year, a 13-year-old junior high school
student in Tochigi prefecture, or state, north of Tokyo, stabbed his teacher
to death in January after being scolded for tardiness.

The report did not provide any analysis for the rise in juvenile crimes.

The report came one day after a ruling Liberal Democratic Party panel on
juvenile law proposed that the minimum age for criminal punishment be lowered
to 14 from the current 16.

Last week, the Education Ministry said reported cases of beatings and other
violence committed by school children at Japanese schools, jumped to 29,000
last year, up from about 11,000 in 1996.

S. Korea hit by a wave of military mishaps

• US still 'comfortable' with key ally. But did South Korean soldiers tell
secrets to North?

Michael Baker
Special to The Christian Science Monitor

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

Despite the modern bustle of South Korea, ringing with Christmas carols and
jammed with holiday shoppers in these festive days, America's Army
considers it a "war zone."

The sacrifices made by US troops defending South Korea - some 36,000 US
personnel are stationed there - are most acute during the holiday season,
when soldiers think of families not allowed to accompany them on this
"hardship tour."

Efforts to defuse the political tension on this peninsula are under way.
Next month's "four party" peace talks represent another attempt by the US,
China, and the two Koreas to wrap up Korea's half-century conflict.

PictureGETTING IT RIGHT: South Korean soldiers practiced a beach landing
southeast of Seoul last month during annual joint exercises with the US
military.
(AHN YOUNG-JOON /AP)

Complications still surface. Last Friday, in the wee hours, South Korea
sank a North Korean spy boat during a chase. The small win buoyed spirits
in South Korea's military, and perhaps reassured the US.

But a month of blunders and new allegations about cross-border contacts
between soldiers have South Korea's armed forces in the headlines and under
fire.

Since mid-November, 11 servicemen have been crushed by tanks, been killed
in explosions, or have committed suicide. Another two killed each other in
a fight. In Inchon, a major city west of Seoul, an antiaircraft missile
accidentally launched, self-destructed in midair, and rained debris on
civilians and cars.

The military blames faulty wiring for the accidental launch. But as with
the flare bomb that landed on an elderly woman's house, and the officers
who fiddled with a 90-mm shell in their lounge until it exploded, outsiders
have blamed military incompetence. A month earlier, five South Korean boats
ran aground while pursuing a North Korean spy ship.

Most damaging, perhaps, are allegations that South Korean soldiers have
been accepting gifts from North Korean soldiers - and perhaps divulging
information - during illegal meetings in Panmunjom, the diplomatic village
straddling Korea's demilitarized zone. A certain Sergeant Kim met North
Koreans 30 times between July and December 1997, allegedly receiving
contraband goods including cigarettes. Another soldier got a Rolex watch.

In February, Kim's commanding officer died in suspicious circumstances.
When news of the contacts emerged this month, the National Assembly
reopened the investigation, suspecting the senior officer was murdered. An
earlier inquiry unconvincingly concluded it was suicide.

"Can we trust the military?" asked an editorial in The Korea Herald.

The defense minister and others have been reprimanded, and a few relieved
of command. But the string of incidents has aroused concerns about South
Korea's military that are reminiscent of 1996. Then, during South Korea's
most recent large-scale operation, 60,000 troops combed the countryside for
25 North Korean commandos who had fled their grounded submarine.

Discipline problems hampered the search. The government essentially sent
"[university] students in uniform to hunt North Korean special forces,"
notes Michael Breen, a North Korea expert based in Sussex, England.

Every able-bodied South Korean male must dedicate two years and two months
to the armed services, and eight years in the reserves. But many
middle-class recruits detest conscription, feeling it is a waste of their
time.

Some university students complain that South Korea's military is
unprofessional. One reservist recounted that at refresher training this
summer it was raining, so they watched videos all day.

Many envy America's volunteer army, and hope someday South Korea can have a
professional army. "In Korea, being a soldier is not a good job," says one
ex-soldier. It wasn't always so. In the 1950s, graduates of the Korean
Military Academy took top jobs, including the presidency. Until the
mid-1970s, the military was the leading edge of technology, education, and
administration, attracting the best and brightest.

But society and business have since overtaken the military. Vietnam was the
last war South Korea fought in, and its military has bureaucratized. These
days it can't easily retain quality personnel in lower ranks. And
commanding officers are often not fully respected by conscripts, who often
have better educations.

Top American officials acknowledge some shortcomings but say they feel they
would be comfortable fighting side by side again with South Korea. "We
train 'joint and combined' every day, and our training equates to a very
high readiness," says US Army spokeswoman Lee Ferguson. The US has
supported South

From ArabicNews.CoM

One NOTE: Wasn't Turkey (who is now aligned with Israel) just recently
embroiled with Syria over some political issue or another?

Further escalation between Damascus and Washington, London
Syria, Politics, 12/23/98

The US embassy in Damascus has officially decided to indefinitely suspend
granting tourism visas in an adverse impact on the bilateral relations
between Washington and Damascus for the demonstrations which targeted the
headquarters of the US embassy and other affiliated centers in Damascus in
objection to the US bombardment of Iraq.

This new American step came following the strong US criticism of Damascus
over what it called the "failure" of Syrian security forces in controlling
demonstrators who attacked the embassy headquarters and caused damage to
the consular section of the embassy and to the residence of US ambassador
Ryan Crocker and the American school.

A statement released by the embassy explained that the embassy's activity
"has been relatively restored," but the consulate section which was damaged
"has suspended for an indefinite time the granting of visas."

Meanwhile, a correspondent from the Lebanese daily al-Nahar in Damascus
said that the strong security measures by the Syrian security forces
continued on Tuesday around the British and US embassies in Damascus as
well as the houses of the two countries' ambassadors. It was rumored that
most of the US diplomats moved temporarily to a building in al-Mezza
district until Syrian security forces were able to control youths who
attacked the US facilities in a Saturday demonstration in protest of the
British and US air raids against Iraq.

On Tuesday night, diplomatic sources in Damascus said that a statement
circulated among embassies accredited in Damascus said the British
ambassador to Syria, Basil Eastwood, left Damascus for London.

Arab League chief calls for new formula in dealing with Iraq
Regional, Politics, 12/23/98

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid called on Tuesday for a
new mechanism to restore confidence between Iraq and the UN Security
Council.

The AL's assistant secretary general in charge of the Iraqi file, Ahmad Bin
Hali told reporters that Abdul Meguid sent a letter to UN Secretary General
Kofi Annan over the US-UK strike on Iraq.

Bin Hali said the letter called for a new and acceptable formula in dealing
with Iraq in line with UN resolutions.

He said the new formula might be able to resolve the pending problems
between Iraq and the UN and help Iraq in lifting the UN sanctions while
safeguarding its sovereignty and regional unity.

Bin Hali said that Abdul Meguid assigned the head of the AL mission in New
York to coordinate with the Arab group in leading the Security Council "to
shoulder its full responsibility towards Iraq."

Abdul Meguid sent similar letters to the foreign ministers of China, Russia
and France, Bin Hali said.

Meanwhile, Abdel Meguid urged the executive office of the Arab ministers of
health to provide medical assistance to the Iraqi people in the wake of the
U.S.-British strike.

Regional efforts continue regarding Arab summit on Iraq
Regional, Politics, 12/23/98

Yemeni diplomatic sources said that Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh
will direct messages to leaders, kings and presidents of the Arab states,
inviting them to convene an urgent Arab summit to deal with the
developments in the Arab states, including the US - British attacks on
Iraq.

It is expected that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdul Qader
Bajmal will make an Arab tour in support of Yemen's call to convene the
summit.

Algerian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Aziz Saba declared his country's
support for the Arab summit called for by Yemen after the US - British
strikes against Iraq.

El-Saba said his country urges convening an organized Arab summit to
maintain a minimum of solidarity and guarantee the Arab people's rights
that these summits are for the benefit of all the countries.

The spokesman referred to his country's position denouncing the strikes,
which are outside international legitimacy.

He added that the Algerian Red Crescent Society will provide food and
medical aid to express the Algerian people's solidarity with the Iraqi
people.

MAP reported that the Moroccan Chamber of Advisors stressed Tuesday the
need to hold an Arab summit over the crisis in Iraq following US-British
missile strikes.

The upper chamber of the parliament, which held an extraordinary session in
solidarity with the Iraqi people, also stressed the importance of
reconciliation among Arab states and denounced "the coward aggression" that
would not have been possible were it not for the "weakness" of the Arab
nation.

The Moroccan advisors joined their colleagues at the house of
representatives (lower chamber) who called on Monday for an extraordinary
Arab summit to adopt a unified position on the anti-Iraq aggression and

Re: [CTRL] AIDS Herbs Cocktail Said to Cure AIDS-related Ailments

1998-12-23 Thread KA

 -Caveat Lector-

BLANTYRE, Malawi (PANA, 12/23/98) - The Catholic Church in Malawi claims a
number of AIDS patients in the country have been cured of AIDS-related
illnesses through the use of local herbs such as aloe vera, frangipani, guava
leaves, sweet potatoes and okra.

Sr. Lilia Conol of the AIDS Patients Home-Based Care Unit of the Church told
reporters the use of a cocktail of the herbs have successfully cured
AIDS-related ailments like shingles.

"People have been cured of shingles and mouth sores after using these herbs,"
she said.

First off, I'm extremely supportive of 'alternative' medical options,
including the use of herbs...

That said, it SHOULD be pointed out that both shingles AND oral canker
sores have the same cause, namely the herpes zoster virus (same one as
causes chicken pox)...

One is never 'cured' of this virus...once infected, the person always has
it present, albeit in remission...

So before jumping on the 'we found an herbal cure' for these things, I'd
make doubly sure that the patients with these conditions didn't just go
into remission, as normally happens with these conditions...

[CTRL] THE MONEY MASTERS

THE MONEY MASTERS is a 3 1/2 hour non-fiction, historical documentary
that traces the origins of the political power structure that rules our
nation and the world today. The modern political power structure has its
roots in the hidden manipulation and accumulation of gold and other
forms of money. The development of fractional reserve banking practices
in the 17th century brought to a cunning sophistication the secret
techniques initially used by goldsmiths fraudulently to accumulate
wealth. With the formation of the privately-owned Bank of England in
1694, the yoke of economic slavery to a privately-owned "central" bank
was first forced upon the backs of an entire nation, not removed but
only made heavier with the passing of the three centuries to our day.
Nation after nation, including America, has fallen prey to this cabal of
international central bankers.
The success of the central banking scheme developed into a far-reaching
plan described by President Clinton’s mentor, Georgetown Professor
Carroll Quigley, "to create a world system of financial control in
private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and
the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in
a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert,
by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences.
The apex of the system was to be the Bank for International Settlements
in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the
world’s central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each
central banksought to dominate its government by its ability to
control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence
the levels of economic activity in the country, and to influence
cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business
world."
Several short-lived attempts to impose the central banking scheme on the
United States were defeated by the patriotic efforts of Presidents
Madison, Jefferson, Jackson, Van Buren and Lincoln. But with the passage
of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, America was firmly lashed to the
same yoke, so that a small number of very rich men have been able to lay
upon the masses a yoke little better than slavery itself. That yoke
inevitably grows heavier with ever-compounding interest, and totals over
$20 trillion of debt owed by the American people today ($80,000 per
American) ultimately to these bankers.

This vast accumulation of wealth concentrates immense power and despotic
economic domination in the hands of the few central bankers "who are
able to govern credit and its allotment, for this reason supplying, so
to speak, the life-blood to the entire economic body, and grasping, as
it were, in their hands the very soul of the economy so that no one dare
breathe against their will." A worldwide tyranny is gradually being
imposed, hidden to most, by THE MONEY MASTERS.

[CTRL] TOWARDS IDEAL MONETARY REFORM LEGISLATION

TOWARDS IDEAL MONETARY
REFORM LEGISLATION

An Introduction to
Monetary Reform Principles

by Patrick S.J. Carmack, B.B.A., J.D.

Why draft model reform legislation with little to no chance of enactment
under the present circumstances? Nobel Laureate in Economics, Milton
Friedman, offers two reasons:

...it is worth discussing radical changes, not in the expectation that
they will be adopted promptly but for two other reasons. One is to
construct an ideal goal, so that incremental changes can be judged by
whether they move the institutional structure toward or away from that
ideal.
Similarly, Pope John Paul II mentions another yardstick for measuring
economic reform proposals:

[by] determining their conformity with or divergence from the lines of
the Gospel teaching...

Friedman continues:

The other reason is very different. It is so that if a crisis requiring
or facilitating radical change does arise, alternatives will be
available that have been carefully developed and fully explored.

Further, modern history is replete with instances in which the Hegelian
dialectic has been applied to the political and economic orders to
manipulate or soften-up governments to change in ways contrary to the
public good. This method usually involves the artificial (i.e. coldly
calculated) initiation of conflict of some kind after careful
conditioning of the elements of the society who could either obstruct or
implement the planned change; followed by a crisis (e.g. an economic or
political anomaly such as the stock market crash of 1929 or the oil
crises of 1974 and 1979); which is then "interpreted" by controlled mass
media to direct the responses to the crisis into pre-planned avenues and
away from correct responses such as careful analysis of the causes and
criminal indictment of the perpetrators (Manipulation on the
personal/psychological order follows a similar pattern of stress,
emotion, counseling). Orwell noted this in 1984:

In governing the populace, unrest cannot be averted. Therefore, it must
be channeled and cultivated.

The following quotation of David Rockefeller, then Chairman of Chase
Manhattan bank, speaking at the June, 1991 Bilderberger meeting in Baden
Baden, Germany (a meeting attended by then-Governor Bill Clinton) is
illustrative of the media control mentioned above:

We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time
Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our
meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty
years. He went on to explain: It would have been impossible for us to
develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of
publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and
prepared to march towards a world government. The supernational
sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely
preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past
centuries.

In light of such scheming, it surely makes sense to attempt to
anticipate the dangers involved and to prepare means of escaping them.

If man lets himself rush ahead without foreseeing in good time the
emergence of new social problems, they will become too grave for a
peaceful solution to be hoped for. - Pope Paul VI

Also, such a discussion can encourage the development of authentic
reform movements based on the conclusions reached, which would otherwise
have no focus or rallying point. Finally, though the mass media would
blind us to the sufferings of the 3rd, and now 4th, world by ignoring it
and redirecting our interests to sports and fantasy and our compassion
to seals and snail darters, nevertheless we will always have the poor
with us on this planet, those who suffer the ravages of extreme poverty
while we dwell in relative plenty. The number of unemployed people has
grown rapidly around the world and was estimated by the International
Labor Organization to be over one billion by 1994. In fact, the present
debt-based monetary system inevitably results in vast accumulations of
wealth in fewer and fewer hands, which necessitates extreme poverty for
vast numbers of mankind. In 1997, 441 billionaires owned as much of the
world’s wealth as the poorer one-half (50%) of mankind (2.4 billion
people). Consistent with one’s state-of-life, we must come to the aid of
the increasing multitudes of our impoverished fellow men.

Let us all set to work, for at this time a grave duty is imposed upon
the consciences of all; a duty for all, employers and employees,
citizens and farmers, moralists, pastors and their flocks, to help
resolutely in the solution of the economic problem that distresses us.
Universal suffering puts it in the front rank and bestows upon it a
character of sacredness.

These words of French Cardinal Verdier during the Great Monetary

I wonder if this could be attributed to overcrowding and the lack of
meaningful occupation of time. Or, am I mistaken in the assumption that
gangs are generally confined to the bored in the cities (as opposed to
those who have ties to farms, e.g.) ? Occupation of time for youth is
generally reserved for 'recreation' rather than a bonafide 'occupation'
(i.e., job). There could be some tie-in to the financial uncertainties
some of the Japanese face (under- or un-employment, earners spending more
time at work than at home, the lure of the easy life of the gang (e.g.,
Yakuza), the yearning for youth to burn off energy / demonstrate their

be lacking or nonexistent -- kind of like when the rich can stave off the
final breaths by virtue of their $$$ (until said $$$ runs out or loses its

underlying social ills that are now becoming visible with Japan's economic

Suicide among Japanese youth surges

TOKYO, Dec 22 (AFP) - Suicides among Japanese children have surged more
than 50 percent amid an economic recession and rampant bullying at school,
officials and social workers said Tuesday.

A total of 581 people aged between 14 and 19 killed themselves in the 10
months to October, up 53 percent from the same period last year, according
to the national police agency.

Economic woes are hurting youngsters as well as their parents, said a
spokesman for a welfare organisation operating a "lifeline telephone"
network to prevent suicides.

"Youngsters are infected with a sense of insecurity prevalent among
middle-aged and older generations ... The social and economic anxiety in
today's Japan seems to be related," he said.

Suicide among adults has also risen, with many killing themselves to escape
financial difficulties.

Young people tended to withdraw into themselves with electronic gadgets and
the Internet, the spokesman said.

"We receive about 80 calls a day, mostly from the younger generation in
their 20s and 30s. I think six percent of the total are teenagers," he
said.

"Teenagers today are poor at expressing their feelings and cannot
communicate with others," he said.

Many deaths linked to school bullying have been reported.

In the latest case a 13-year-old boy was found hanged at his home in the
eastern prefecture of Ibaraki last week. "I can't stand it any more," he
said in a suicide note.

Teachers were aware of fewer than one in three bullying cases at public
schools for children aged 15 or younger, the government's management and
coordination agency said Tuesday.

Bullying was found in almost all schools, with a total of 2,631 cases
discovered for the three years to March 1997 at 156 schools out of 165
inspected, it said.

Juvenile crime was also rising.

Arrests of young people for serious offences such as murder numbered 257 in
the 11 months to November, the highest figure since the agency started
compiling such data in 1972.

(to Part 1)

It was this very concept of 'being' or 'self-completeness' which posed
the ultimate problem for Enlil-Jehovah. In contrast, his brother Enki
knew that humans who partook of the Tree of Knowledge (the Anunnaki
wisdom) and of the Plant of Birth (the Anunnaki Star Fire) could
themselves become almost like gods. Even Jehovah was said to have
recognised this, and Genesis states that when Adam had taken the fruit
of the Tree, Jehovah said, "Behold, the man is become as one of Us".

Enki the Wise, Guardian of the Tree of Knowledge, also had another name
in the Hebrew tradition. They called him Samael (Sama-El) because he was
the designated Lord of Sama in northern Mesopotamia. The teachings of
the early mystery-schools were very specific about the Trees of Life and
Knowledge, and they emulated the very teachings of Enki himself. It was
said: Nothing is obtained simply by wanting. And nothing is achieved by
relinquishing responsibility to a higher authority. Belief is the act of
'beliving', for to 'be live' is to 'believe' - and Will is the ultimate
medium of the Self.

The Sumerian records relate that Cain's son, King Etana, partook of the
Plant of Birth in order to father his own son and heir, King Baali - and
the Plant of Birth was directly associated with individual longevity and
the office of Cainship, or Kingship. It was itself related to Star Fire
and to pineal gland activity, and partaking of the Plant of Birth was
the ritual of ingesting the Star Fire - the pure Anunnaki female
essence, the Nectar of Supreme Excellence.

In this regard, the Anunnaki 'flow-er' (flower or lily) was held to be
the Cup-bearer, the transmitter of the Rich Food of the Matrix. In this
capacity, she was called the Rose of Sharon (from the word Sha, meaning
'Orbit', along with the words Ra and On, relating to the ultimate temple
of 'Light'). The significance of this highly venerated station is
actually made apparent in the Bible's esoteric Song of Solomon wherein
the Messianic Bride proclaims to the King, "I am the Rose of Sharon and
the Lily of the valleys".

A Star Fire recipient King was considered to have become qualified for
Kingship when he reached a pre-destined state of enlightened
consciousness - a state when his aptitudes for wisdom and leadership had
been enhanced to a realm of Kingship called the Malkû. It was from this
Mesopotamian word Malkû that the Hebrews derived their words Malchus
(King) and Malkhut (Kingdom).

Only in very recent times have medical scientists identified the
hormonal secretion of the pineal gland, finally isolating it in 1968.
The essence was called melatonin, which means 'night worker' (from the
Greek, melos, meaning 'black', and tosos, meaning 'labour'). Those with
a high melatonin output react strongly against sunlight because it
affects their mental capability; they are essentially night operatives.
Melatonin is called the 'hormone of darkness' as it is produced only at
night or in the dark. Exposure to an excess of sunlight actually makes
the pineal gland smaller and lessens spiritual awareness, whereas
darkness and high pineal activity enhance the keen intuitive knowledge
of the subtle mind while reducing the stress factor.

At this stage, it is of interest to note how it was that the Christian
Church eventually demolished the true significance of the Star Fire
ritual by manoeuvring it into the realm of sinister Gothic legend. In
the old tradition, the ultimate holders of the Malkhut were known as
Dragons or Pendragons, and the reigning head was always known as Draco.

By virtue of their bodily conditioning through supplementary melatonin
and other hormonal secretions, they were in fact Princes of Darkness;
and they gained their heightened awareness, above-normal powers and
longevity from the Star Fire - the lunar blood of the Anunnaki Queens
and the priestly Scarlet Women.

As detailed in Bloodline of the Holy Grail, the brutal Catholic
Inquisitions of the Middle Ages were set against all the so-called
heretics who in one way or another

Introduction

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have become a commercial reality
in agriculture. For example, it is estimated that in 1998 over 18
million acres in the United States will be planted in Roundup Ready®
soybeans, which were first introduced in 1996 (Horstmeier 1998). These
soybeans are engineered by Monsanto Corporation to contain a bacterial
gene that confers tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate, or Roundup® ,
also made by Monsanto. Only two years after the introduction of Roundup
Ready® soybeans, over 30% of the corn and soybeans planted in the United
States, and close to 50% of the canola planted in Canada, have been
genetically engineered to be either herbicide or pesticide resistant.

Monsanto and the other companies that have invested heavily in
biotechnology in the last two decades are starting to make some money
after years of promises without products, and they are aggressively
protecting their patented seeds. In a recent issue of the Farm Journal
(Monsanto 1997), Monsanto ran a full page advertisement asking farmers
to respect the company's property rights:

It takes millions of dollars and years of research to develop the
biotech crops that deliver superior value to growers. And future
investment in biotech research depends on companies' ability to share in
the added value created by these crops. Consider what happens if growers
save and replant patented seed. First, there is less incentive for all
companies to invest in future technology, such as the development of
seeds with traits that produce higher-yielding, higher-value and
drought-tolerant cropsIn short, these few growers who save and
replant patented seed jeopardize the future availability of innovative
biotechnology for all growers. And that's not fair to anyone.

In the future, companies and government breeders who genetically
engineer crops may not have to ask for such compliance. If the procedure
outlined in a recent patent comes to fruition and is widely used, plant
variety protection will be biologically built into the plants
themselves.

In March of 1998, a seed company later to be purchased by Monsanto,
Delta and Pine Land Company, in collaboration with the United States
Department of Agriculture, was awarded U.S. Patent Number 5,723,765:
Control of Plant Gene Expression. Although the patent is broad and
covers many applications, one application favored by the patent's
authors is a scheme to engineer crops to kill their own seeds in the
second generation, thus making it impossible for farmers to save and
replant seeds.

This "invention" has been dubbed the "Terminator Technology" by Rural
Advancement Foundation International (RAFI), and that group of
researchers have analyzed some of the technology's serious social,
economic and environmental implications (RAFI 1998). However, many of
the consequences of Terminator cannot be fully appreciated without an
understanding of the science behind the invention. In this paper, I
outline the steps involved in engineering Terminator Technology into a
specific crop. After explaining the process, I then discuss which
details might have the devil in them.

Overview

To help describe the Terminator procedure, I have confined the
explanation to only one of the many possibilities covered by the patent.
The example I have chosen is cotton seed, which previously has been
genetically-engineered with a unique trait, herbicide tolerance. In my
discussion, I have assumed that to ensure that the descendants of the
herbicide tolerant seeds are not used without compensation to the seed
company, the company has additionally genetically engineered the cotton
with Terminator. Although this is a hypothetical case -- Terminator
cotton is not yet on the market, after all -- all the components of the
procedure have been shown to function, at least in the text of the
patent for Terminator.

Cotton is not often sold as a hybrid seed, and is thus a

[CTRL] Perpetual motion: An Ancient Mystery Solved?

An Ancient Mystery Solved?

You will have come here for anyone of number of reasons, but this site
exists for only one - to discover the means by which Johann Bessler
utilized the earth’s gravitational field in his so-called ‘perpetual
motion machine’ in the year 1712 - and ultimately provide a solution to
the energy crisis.
The question mark at the end of the title indicates that the discovery
process is all but done, there remains one small query to solve and then
we shall have the solution - I hope!

My book -’Perpetual Motion - An Ancient Mystery Solved?’ contains all
the evidence which I have accumulated over a number of years. This book
is now available through this site.

To counter accusations that this is a scam or that I am ‘three bricks
short of a load’ or that I am an eccentric trying to promote some
strange philosophy, I have provided in these pages facts and arguments
extracted from my book. These will, I hope, go some way towards
ameliorating such thoughts.

I have set out firstly to prove that Johann Bessler was not a fraud, and
secondly to prove that his machine did not contradict nor debase current
scientific theory and practice and the laws which govern them. The
arguments are persuasive and I believe that an unprejudiced reading of
them will arouse in most people a feeling that History has wrongly
convicted an innocent man.

As for my credentials - I have worked within the engineering industry
for over thirty years in various capacities. I have studied the subject
of Johann Bessler for most of that time, firstly as a hobby but latterly
in a more ordered way. I felt compelled to unearth everything I possibly
could about him because of the slowly dawning realisation that he was
sincere and therefore there had to be some explanation for the success
of his machine. Since advertising on the internet I have been amazed to
discover that all around the world there are people who have
independently arrived at the same decision as I have - that Bessler was
genuine - and who have been working on their own theories as to how he
achieved the results that he did.

I hope that this book will be of value to those mentioned above and also
to others who perhaps are unaware of this man’s life, but who
nevertheless would like to see a solution to the energy problems that
beset us at the end of this millennium.

An Ancient Mystery Solved?

•Is a solution to the energy crisis imminent? An alternative energy?
•Is there an inexaustable supply of free energy waiting to be tapped?
•Is this new energy?
•Is a 90% fall in the consumption of the earth’s natural resources
possible?
•Is a 90% decrease in pollution achievable?
•Is there an alternative to solar energy, wind energy and tidal energy?
•Is there an alternative to nuclear energy or the burning of fossil
fuels?
•Did an 18th century inventor discover a new way of generating power?
•Are there any conditions under which perpetual motion might be
possible?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
YES!

A new investigation into the legend of Bessler’s wheel

On the 6th June, 1712 Johann Bessler announced to the world that he had
discovered the secret of perpetual motion and had constructed a machine
which demonstrated his claim. For many reasons this claim has been put
aside and the originator of it has been consigned to the dustbins of
history along with all the other frauds, fabulists and fakers whose
lives occupy the archives of many a dusty shelf in museums throughout
the world.

The reasons for this fact are not hard to find. For a start Perpetual
Motion is regarded as impossible. Science does not acknowledge the
possibility of designing a machine which will acquire sufficient energy
of itself, to drive other machines, without accessing that energy from
outside itself - and neither do I.

However. . . the first time I read an account of the legend of Bessler’s
wheel I noticed a glaring error, one that should have been obvious to
anyone who read the account closely. And there was not just one area of
concern, as I began to study the story I realised that there were
several inconsistencies. These led me on an investigation that has
occupied me for several years, and has taken me to archives in the UK,
Germany and Russia. Despite the fact that I was unable to speak or
understand these languages, I was so convinced that I had stumbled on
something of tremendous importance, that I paid to have these various
texts translated, with the outcome that this is probably the fullest
account of Bessler’s life that has been written to date. There is one
simple fact to be taken into consideration at this point. My
investigations enable me to state unequivocally, that it would not be
possible to recreate a similar machine today, using 18th century
technology

From Washington (DC) Times:

Female bombers achieve milestone in 'Desert Fox'

By Rowan Scarborough
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Picture: Female aviators made history in Operation Desert Fox, but the
Pentagon public affairs apparatus isn't trumpeting the event in order to
keep things gender-neutral.
"All of the female pilots have been declining interviews," said a Navy
officer at the Pentagon. "They don't want to be highlighted as female
pilots. They want to be known as naval aviators."
Of the 12 female combat aviators on the carrier USS Enterprise, three
piloted the F/A-18, a fighter bomber. Their missions marked the first time
female pilots put bombs on target in war, Navy officials say.
One woman piloted an F-14 Tomcat air-to-air fighter,
-- Continued from Front Page --
while others served as naval flight officers aboard airborne jammers and
early warning radar planes.
No military briefer announced the achievements during six straight
days of Desert Fox press conferences at the Pentagon. No Navy official
would talk on the record about female fliers.
Asked by a reporter about the historical significance of women flying
bombers in war, Marine Corps Gen. Anthony Zinni, Desert Fox commander,
said, "Well, my answer would be, so what? We don't even count -- I mean,
somebody asked me today, 'How many female pilots or navigators?' -- I have
no idea. I can't find anybody that counts. So if you want a sign of the
times, there it is."
Navy Lt. Kendra Williams, 26, was the first of the three female F/A-18
pilots to fly a strike mission, the Associated Press reported from the
carrier Enterprise.
Lt. Williams, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, graduated from jet
training in 1997 at the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, Texas.
"Women have only been in combat aviation a few years," she said last
year. "It's going to take time for people to adjust."
Aboard the Enterprise, she issued a terse "I was just doing my job"
before rejoining fellow fliers in a squadron nicknamed "Gunslingers."
Two other female pilots on the Enterprise, Lyndsi Bates and Carol
Watts, also flew the F/A-18 over Iraq.
The Air Force put fighters and strategic bombers into action, but none
was piloted by a woman, according to Lt. John Hutcheson, a spokesman at Air
Force Air Combat Command.
"There were no Air Force female pilots that participated in combat,"
he said. "We did have one electronic warfare officer who flew aboard a
B-52."
The Vietnam-era heavy bomber was used to fire 2,000-pound warhead
cruise missiles at targets that make up Saddam Hussein's military
industrial complex.
The Navy's blase approach is in sharp contrast to a public relations
extravaganza in 1994 when the first female combat pilots sailed aboard the
carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Congress repealed a ban on women flying combat aircraft that year,
based in large part on the many support roles that women carried out in the
1991 Persian Gulf war.
The Navy ferried journalists, politicians and their wives to the
Eisenhower as part of a campaign to improve the Navy's public image after
the Tailhook sexual-abuse scandal.
But a Navy inspector general's report in 1997 may have dampened
publicity. The IG's report on the integration of female aviators on the
carrier USS Abraham Lincoln criticized the Navy for bumping women ahead of
men who were waiting for a shot at qualifying as carrier pilots.
The IG report also warned the Navy to "exercise an increased
sensitivity for the potentially disruptive influence the media has when it
is covering a story."
Women have served on support ships since the 1970s but were banned
from combat ships like the Enterprise until three years ago.
"It's what the Navy said all along," a retired Navy officer said
yesterday. "It works, and they're just another pilot. The Navy has finally
realized among the ranks this is a positive event, and it's commonplace.
They're treating it not blase, but they're treating it as they do all other
events."
While Desert Fox was a milestone, it was not the first time female
fliers saw combat. Navy women have flown combat jets over
Bosnia-Herzegovina to enforce a cease-fire and over southern Iraq to
enforce a no-fly zone.
In December 1989, Army police women exchanged gunfire with Panamanian
soldiers during the U.S. intervention to capture strongman Manuel Noriega.
Military police are classified as support personnel, not combatants.

I'm not telling anyone not to ask for other people's points of view, but
I went into convulsions, and I*m not joking.

James MacRyland Crary

I just rented the movie JFK and watched it twice within the last two
nights. I
believe Stone was right on the money regarding the domestic conspiracy, and
so
was Garrison. But I have two criticisms of the film:

1. It moved two fast, covered too much information too quickly and didn't
make
enough of an effort to help the viewer follow the sequence of events. Some
of
the details could probably have been left out.

2. Stone neglected to mention the link to Israel via Centro Mondiale
Commerciale ("World Trade Center") which was mentioned in the scene where
Garrison brought Clay Shaw in for questioning. Centro Mondiale Commerciale
was
the parent company of another shadowy firm named Permindex. Both
corporations
were founded by Louis Mortimer Bloomfield, a powerful Jewish international
lawyer from Montreal with strong ties to Israel. Bloomfield had
international
spy connections (British Intelligence, OSS, CIA, likely Mossad) and was an
ardent Zionist who, as a lawyer, represented billionaire Sam Bronfman,
another
Zionist and friend of Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, a
zealot--and
Father of Israel--who clearly hated Kennedy and feared he was anti-Semitic
like
his father Joseph Kennedy, Sr. President Kennedy and Prime Minister
Ben-Gurion
locked horns over Israel's nuclear reactor in Dimona. Ben-Gurion resigned
on
June 16, 1963, just six days after Kennedy's most powerful speech of his
life:
"Strategy of Peace," delivered at American University. In that speech,
Kennedy
called for a halt to the nuclear arms race between the U.S. and the
U.S.S.R.
He extended an olive branch to Khrushchev in a quest of a lasting, genuine
world peace, an end to the Cold War.

I suspect Stone may have left out the Israeli connection because: (1) He
didn't
know how Israel was connected to the big picture and (2) He recognized the
marketing implications of indicting Israel in his movie. Organized Jewry
casts
a large shadow over the American news media and entertainment business.
Bronfman money abounds everywhere. Stone's movie would likely not have
been
distributed had he taken on organized Jewry by accusing Israel.

Stone was critical of the press in the movie. The news media as a
collective
body was clearly an accomplice. It pushed the phony cover story that Lee
Harvey Oswald was a lone assassin who killed Kennedy.

Ask yourself: What one ethnic group has an unbalanced but powerful monopoly
over the U.S. news media?

Be careful how you respond. You may not like the answer.

Subject: Clinton the rapist?

   Is the Scumbag a rapist?
That explosive accusation - involving an alleged victim named Juanita
Broderick a/k/a "Jane Doe #5" for the purpose of the Paula Jones lawsuit -
was
discussed on NBC News 3/28/98. It details a "date rape"-type incident in
which
the Scumbag allegedly raped Broderick - and then intimidated her in order
to
hush up the incident.
The alleged incident happened while the Scumbag was Attorney General of
Arkansas.
Count on Juanita Broderick being subpeonaed to the upcoming Senate trial
of
the Scumbag's impeachment. Reason: if the Scumbag denied under oath during
the
deposition in the Paula Jones case - or during any other phase of the Jones
case - that the incident happened, that's MORE perjury he committed while
president should the incident prove to have happened.
And no kneepad-wearing liberal can brush it off as "consenting adults"
if it
happened, either.
===
Last February, the DRUDGE REPORT alerted readers who were following the
Paula
Jones sex case that there was great interest swirling around a woman named
"Juanita." She was code named "Jane Doe #5."
A month later, NBC NEWS star Lisa Myers explored the "Juanita" story in a
nightly news shocker: A woman claims she was sexually assaulted by Bill
Clinton
back in the 1970s!
The White House called that allegation, "Outrageous."
The following is a flashback to the first Myers report on "Juanita" that
aired
on the NBC national news on Saturday, March 28, 1998:
"The explosive new allegation tonight is that President Clinton sexually
assaulted a woman 20 years ago in Arkansas. It involves an alleged
encounter at
this Little Rock hotel in the late 1970s, between then Attorney General
Bill
Clinton and campaign worker, Juanita Broaddrick. In court documents today,
Jones' lawyers claim Clinton quote 'forcibly raped and sexually assaulted'
Broaddrick, then quote "bribed and intimidated her" to remain silent.
Sources
say that Broaddrick, now 54, recently denied under oath that such an
assault
occurred. But Jones' lawyers claim she had told their investigator she had
suffered a quote 'horrible thing' at the hand of Clinton, and did not want
to
relive it. And NBC NEWS has talked to four people from Arkansas who say
Broaddrick told them of such an assault years ago.
Today's charge is largely based on a letter from this man, Philip Yoakum, a
friend and business associate of the alleged victim. In a letter to
Broaddrick,
written in 1992, Yoakum, a Republican writes, I was particularly distraught
when you told me of your brutal rape by Bill Clinton, how he bit your lip
until
you gave into his forcing sex upon you.' In an interview with NBC NEWS,
Yoakum
said Broaddrick told him that Clinton invited himself to her hotel room,
allegedly to discuss her nursing home business.
Unidentified Reporter: She told you in 1981 that Bill Clinton assaulted
her?
Mr. PHILLIP YOAKUM (Arkansas Businessman): Mm-hm. Yes, 1981 is when she
told
me.
Reporter: Did you believe her at the time?
Mr. YOAKUM: I believed her.
MYERS: Yoakum admits he is no fan of the president and that he
unsuccessfully
tried to get Broaddrick to tell her story when Clinton first ran for
president.

Mr. YOAKUM: And she says, Who would believe me, little old Juanita from Van
Buren?'
MYERS: There was another woman at that hotel that day, a nurse and friend
of
Broaddrick who says she iced her friend's face after the assault. In a
telephone interview with NBC News, this woman, who admits she dislikes
Clinton,
said Broaddrick was distraught, her lips were swollen at least double in
size.
She told me they had intercourse against her will.' Again a White House
spokesman dismissed the charge as outrageous, false, and the work of the
president's long-time political opponents.' The White House also noted that
Broaddrick herself already denied the allegation under oath. Tonight,
Broaddrick had no comment

I was the author, in 1975, of "A Skeleton Key to the Gemstone Files",
available on CompuServe and must reading for anyone who wants to
understand how and why our society has deteriorated to the point it
has. The story BEHIND the Gemstone story is one of the most incredible
you will ever come across, and it can be thoroughly documented. As time
and finances permit, we will begin uploading thousands of pages of
documentation to substantiate the claims made in the Gemstone Files.
These files were the reason behind the famous Watergate burglaries.
Richard Nixon wanted to find out just how much we knew and who we had
shared this information with.

Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt
(yeah, I know, he's a drugged out sleazeball), offered me $1 million
for what I had on the JFK murder. I sent him the Gemstone Files. Two
days after I discussed the story with his staff he was permanently
crippled by a would-be assassin. The story was rejected - then in
February 1979, Hustler published it - without paying for it - and even
misspelled the same words I had deliberately misspelled as protection.

I went to Charles Galbreath, former Tennessee Appellate Court Judge
and a friend of Flynt's. I wanted to know what was going on. Galbreath
wanted to sue. The story got even stranger at that point. Hustler
admitted they had received the story from me and offered a $2,000 out-
of-court settlement, which I rejected. (Maybe, in retrospect, I should
have accepted it).

Suddenly, Galbreath backed off, after saying Flynt was being
controlled by sinister powers.

The Gemstone Files was widely published - but heavily censored - and
was made into a movie and a book by a CIA front corporation. Their
objective was to present it as fiction, so people would never again
regard it for what it was - FACT. The corporation that published it
was, in fact, a CIA proprietary airline like Air America. It was their
only venture into publishing. One of their agents tried to take credit

uploading the texts of our newsletter, The Omega Report, to various
CompuServe Libraries.

We are, to my knowledge, the only non-profit institute in America (at
least) that is dedicated to the study of Extremely Low Frequency (ELF)
energy. ELF affects every one of us every day. Our brains operate on
the ELF frequency band (0-3000 hertz). So do the brains of every living
creature on earth. Even the earth itself oscillates at an ELF
frequency.

I have testified in federal court as an expert witness on power line
radiation. If any of you are concerned about high-voltage power lines
or substations near your home or office, or about their environmental
effects, you definitely need to know more about the Phoenix Foundation.

We have received calls and letters from around the country on this
growing problem (which a secret utility memo compares to the asbestos
crisis), and we would like to form an international network of
citizens, organizations and researchers interested in identifying the
risks and the causes, and in finding solutions that are fair and
equitable to all, including the utilities. In fact, we invite electric
utility participation.

The story of the Phoenix Foundation goes back beyond 1981. I
personally carried out a lot of the research since 1961, and founded
the Phoenix Foundation as a formal organization to further my own
personal research.

The Phoenix Foundation - just like MacGyver indicates - is involved
inmany things:weapons research,paraphysicsresearch,
extraterrestrial research, biophysics, psychotronics, electronics,
agriculture,journalism,AIDS research, conflict

May I recommend an education in terminology before one attempts to

America has NOT a capitalist economy but a MIXED economy with
Government controls, regulations and planning to its detriment.

Typical Libertarian bullshit. America has a slightly mixed economy
which
is firmly in the hands of Capitalists. The very worst of both
possibilities.

It's the Capitalist Elites who enjoy the fruits of Socialism by owning
the government. And it's the poor and working class who enjoy the
bitter
leftovers of capitalism.
