MANDEVILLE, La. (AP) -- Federal agents searched the home of former Ku Klux Klan leader
David Duke and seized boxes of documents Thursday.

FBI spokeswoman Sheila Thorne refused to disclose the nature of the investigation.

Agents from the FBI, Internal Revenue Service and the Postal Service entered Duke's
suburban New Orleans home at 8 a.m. and were still inside the house, with the blinds
drawn, at mid-afternoon.

Duke, 50, was not home. He was in Russia promoting a book, said Vincent Edwards, a
spokesman for a Duke-led political organization.

The former KKK leader and Senate candidate appeared before a federal grand jury in New
Orleans in 1999 as news broke that Gov. Mike Foster had paid him more than $150,000
for a computerized list of his supporters, supposedly for use during the 1995
governor's race. Duke had considered entering that race but ultimately stayed out of
it.

The grand jury reportedly was seeking information on whether Duke paid taxes on the
money.

It was not known if the raid on Duke's home had anything to do with that matter.

Foster "hasn't spoken to the FBI," said the governor's spokeswoman, Marsanne Golsby.
"He doesn't know anything about it."

Foster, a Republican, paid a $20,000 fine to the state Board of Ethics in connection
with the list of supporters.

Duke spent years on the political fringe, first as a Klan leader who publicly
expressed neo-Nazi sympathies, then as founder of the National Association for the
Advancement of White People, which decried integration.

He got elected to the state House in 1989 as a Republican and ran unsuccessfully for
the U.S. Senate in 1990, pulling 44 percent of the vote against Democratic Sen. J.
Bennett Johnston.

In the 1991 governor's race, he shocked the political establishment by making it into
a runoff with former Gov. Edwin Edwards, who was trying for a comeback. Edwards won in
a landslide.

Duke made a run for the presidency in Southern primaries in 1992 but was soundly
defeated. He finished third in the 1999 race to replace Rep. Bob Livingston in
Congress.

Last year, Duke launched the National Organization for European-American Rights, or
NOFEAR.

I remember the offices he was running for in Louisiana, and I'm embarassed to say, I
was left with little choice to vote. Louisiana, hopefully, will put all the past bad
politics behind with Gov. Foster at the helm. How come the Feds never raided Edwin
Edwards, or Cleo Feilds??

When will the Feds raid Cleo's home? Hm. Good question. Maybe we should ask his
buddy, Eddie Jordan.

BTW-did you ever see the EWE/Cleo bribe tape. It was posted on www.theadvocate.com.

Delta, Colombians get off to bad start

By Mark Bowden
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Medellin, was Colombia’s second largest city, the capital of Antioquia, it
was settled by Spanish Jews in the 17th century. Medellin natives, called
paisas (pie-sas), remained the most independent of Colombians, had a
reputation for mercantile genius and industry. (Akira Suwa / Inquirer)

Chapter Six of a continuing serial

After an unnerving trip from Bogota, the two Delta soldiers finally arrived
at the Medellin headquarters of the Colombian police units searching for
Pablo Escobar in July of 1992.

The two Americans slept that night in sleeping bags on the floor of a
storehouse just inside the main gate of the Holquin police academy - close
enough, they thought, to be obliterated by a car bomb parked outside.

They awoke to their first view of the city. Medellin, Colombia's
second-largest city, had a reputation for mercantile genius and industry. The
city's traditions had nurtured, in part, its most recent boom as the world
capital of cocaine.

One of the Americans, known to the Colombians simply as Col. Santos, met the
following morning, July 28, with Lt. Col. Lino Pinzon, a commander of the
search forces. Pinzon indicated that he regarded Delta's arrival as an insult
to his leadership skills and a threat to his career. The elite, top-secret
American commandos had been sent after a request by Colombia's president for
help in the hunt for Escobar.

It was a classic culture clash. Pinzon had already complained to Joe Toft,
the Drug Enforcement Administration chief in Colombia. Toft tried to calm
Pinzon, to convince him that working with these Americans would bring credit
and glory to his unit, but he knew Pinzon wasn't buying it.

When big, aggressive Gary Harrell, a Delta lieutenant colonel, arrived later
that day from Bogota, things got worse. Harrell and Pinzon had already
clashed at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota. Now, on Harrell's first day as the top
American at the Holquin Academy, he and Pinzon began quarreling.

Still, the two men were stuck with each other and began setting up joint
operations. Delta positioned two operators in Escobar's former observation
tower up at La Cathedral, the prison Escobar had built. One operator was Sgt.
Maj. Joe Vega - a "captain" for this operation - a broad-shouldered weight
lifter with long, black hair.

The Colombian police had moved into the prison and were living in comfort,
the commander ensconced in Escobar's former luxury suite. Vega had a
satellite phone and laptop computer to help him rapidly correlate the map
coordinates sent to him by Centra Spike, the secret American Army team of
electronic-surveillance experts who operated from two specially outfitted
twin-engine planes.

Vega also carried an 8mm video camera with several high-powered lenses, and a
microwave relay to transmit the image down to the Holquin Academy.

The team waited for Escobar to make another phone call from a finca, or
estate, in an exclusive Medellin suburb of Tres Equinax where Centra Spike
had previously homed in on one of his conversations. He was quiet that night,
but early the following evening, a Tuesday, Centra Spike picked up another
phone call from the same spot.

In the observation tower, Vega quickly found the coordinates on his map and
alerted Harrell, who tried to rouse Col. Pinzon and get his men moving.

According to Delta soldiers and DEA agents, the Colombian commander did not
respond.

When the embassy in Bogota learned that Pinzon had not moved, calls were
placed to the Presidential Palace, and President Cesar Gaviria himself
finally ordered Pinzon and his men to get going. Outraged that the Delta team
had gone over his head, Pinzon was indignant, and took hours to assemble his
men.

It wasn't until early the next morning that Pinzon launched his "raid."
Pinzon dispatched about 300 men in a caravan of pickup trucks and cars.

>From his perch at La Cathedral prison, talking by phone to Steve Jacoby, the
American major in charge of Centra Spike at the embassy, Vega noted the
procession of headlights as this giant convoy begin moving up the mountain.

"Wait a minute," he told Jacoby. "Now there's another set of headlights
moving down the hill on the other side of the mountain."

Escobar would not have even needed to be tipped off. Everyone on the mountain
could see and hear the approach of the police.

Pinzon's men found the estate to be typical of an Escobar hideout, luxurious
furnishings far beyond the norms even for that neighborhood, including a
sparkling new bathroom with a deep tub.

Pinzon seemed pleased when his men turned up nothing. He later told DEA agent
Javier Pena that he had a "gut feeling" that Escobar had never been at the
finca. He would find Escobar quicker, he said

MOUNT LASSEN CALIFORNIA
REPTILIAN STRONGHOLD!?
http://www.davidicke.com/icke/index1a.html
by B. Alan Walton

A number of people have reported strange and unusual activities surrounding one of the mountains of the Cascade range of northern California... Mt. Lassen. These reports suggest that this area may in fact be a 'battle-ground' between benevolent and malevolent powers. Some have stated that there is an 'alien' atmosphere about the place, others have described strange 'voices' which seem to come from nowhere, while still others have described 'showers' of rocks ranging in size from small pea-like pebbles to basketball-size stones, in a few cases. This phenomena 'might' result from volcanic activity, then again, it might not. It is interesting that several people who have had 'close encounters' with reptiloids have stated that throwing rocks - sometimes with deadly force - is one strategy used by the reptiloids to discourage curious huma!
ns from invading 'their' territory. At the same time, these creatures apparently have little or no problem with invading OUR domain. There have even been other reports suggesting that there is a 'base' near Mt. Lassen in which reptiloid activity is taking place, and has been for some time - activity involving a group of humans who have allowed themselves to fall under the 'spell' or the control of the serpent race, and are serving their cause. The account which we will describe shortly was released by Val Valerian in June of 1992, and appeared in the 'LEADING EDGE' magazine. This report describes what appear to be human-sized reptilians (who might, with some alterations, be able to pass themselves off as humans?) or reptiloids that appear to be extremely dangerous and threatening. In fact there are other accounts that suggest that the human-sized [and larger] reptiloids absolutely despise humanity and - unlike the more 'intellect!
ually indifferent' saurian grays -- have been seen to express deep rage, anger, hatred, impudence and an almost demonic contempt for the human race. The Grays' form of "enmity" against the human race is on the other extreme from that of the 'Reptoids', and consists of absolute indifference to human life or suffering, however total indifference can be just as destructive to humankind as is the raging, vicious hatred expressed by the larger reptilian predators that act as overseers to the grays. This is why the saurian grays can dip their arms in a tank full of dismembered human corpses that are being mixed with hydrogen peroxide for their protein and enzymatic content, and rub this substance over their bodies without the slightest twinge of conscience. The grays normally come from deep space, far from the multi- dimensional densities of earth, therefore they have become incarnations of the extremes of intellectual indifference!
. The reptiloids dwell deep within the earth, where the dense energies of the physical-material realm produce the opposite extremes of emotional animosity. Both species are the end results of intellectual and emotional energies taken to the extremes, on either side of the golden mean. As we've said, insectilian indifference can be just as destructive as all-out draconian malevolence. In this event, one should not consider the grays as being any better nor benevolent than the 'reptilioids', simply because the extra- terrestrial grays are far more intellectually oriented - and much more emotionless - than are their larger sub-terranean neo-saurian cousins. Since the reptilian hierarchy operates on fear, competition, ego, and absolute control, there will nevertheless be accounts such as the one following which indicate that the lower levels of the reptilian hierarchy are fearful of the higher ups. This is undoubtedly due to the!
fact that execution is sometimes used to maintain obedience among the lower hierarchies by making examples out of certain members that do not fall "in line" with the agenda (this tension between the different reptilian "classes" may be used to human advantage in the future). The hu-brids (human-hybrids possessing a human soul as opposed to the re-brids or reptilian-hybrids which possess no soul-matrix) would be another story altogether. There is much evidence that these beings who are bred for slavery from birth are themselves being kept in subjection through fear and intimidation and possibly even the threat of death. In this case, many of the 'hybrid' species might be convinced to choose in favor of their human-DNA nature as opposed to their reptilian DNA nature. There is also evidence that many if not most of these hubrids are inwardly in opposition to the indifferent grays and the malevolent reptiloids. Val Valerian introduc!
es the woman who experienced an encounter with the "aliens" near Mt. Lassen, in the following words: "The case of this San Francisco woman is highly illustrative of the abduction situation... This kind lady came to me recently for assistance and is in the pr

CIA-backed wireless networking start-up gets new CEO

CIA-backed start-up La Graviton has spotted its future leader in the form of ex-US West exec Sol Trujillo.

He is joining the small California-based outfit as CEO, president and chairman. The company is developing a wireless data networking technology that will have sensors to tip off users about information.

Graviton was one of the first companies to net cash from the CIA's new venture capital group In-Q-Tel (named after top spy 007 gadget man "Q").

Trujillo replaces Graviton founder Michael Nova, who will stay on as chief technical officer. The 48-year-old abandoned his post of CEO and chairman of US West -one of the former Baby Bells - this summer after the company's June merger with Qwest Communications.

"Graviton is pioneering an entirely new realm, one that we believe will become extraordinarily significant and pervasive over the next decade," said Turujillo in a statement. "Wireless sensor networks are destined to become, in effect, the nervous system of our engineered world."

The company is aiming flog its wireless sensor networks to businesses and consumers alike, with uses including gas leak alerts and tracking patients' health through remote monitoring devices. ®

A lot of them will. Why the heck do you think there are so few ugly politicians? Why
do the politicians spend so much time fussing over their hair, putting on more makeup
than a drag queen, having 'power dressing consultants' etc.?

Personal appearance is a big vote winner in a dumb-ox-racy.

[CTRL] Leonids 2000 Meteor Shower

2000-11-17 Thread Bill Richer

-Caveat Lector-

 Leonids 2000: Predicted Flurries
back to spaceweather.com or leonids.com

A note about time: UT=Universal Time; EST=Eastern Standard Time, the time on
the US east coast.

Leonid meteor outbursts happen when Earth passes close to dusty debris trails
laid down by comet Tempel-Tuttle. The comet returns to the inner solar system
every 33 years --the last time was in 1998-- but it never follows the same
path twice. Gravitational perturbations by the planets, particularly Jupiter,
nudge it into slightly different orbits each time around. As a result, no two
of its debris trails are in the same spot. They are laid out in a complex
pattern that has baffled astronomers for many years. Lately, though,
researchers have figured out where many of the dust streams are located and
can predict when Earth will pass through one.

Above: Earth's path through space is shown in blue. Auburn-colored ellipses
denote dust streams laid down by comet Tempel-Tuttle in the indicated years.
Until they disperse after a few centuries, these narrow trails are regions
that have a high density of meteoroids and so there is a meteor storm if the
Earth passes through one. This year our planet will pass close to trails
deposited in 1932, 1733 and 1866. Courtesy of Dr. David Asher (copyright
2000, all rights reserved). [more information]

This year Earth will glide through the outskirts of three debris streams, but
we won't hit any dead center. The result could be modest outbursts at the
following times:

Date: Friday, Nov. 17.
Time: 7:50 am UT (2:50 am EST)
Earth will approach material ejected from comet Tempel-Tuttle in 1932. The
most optimistic models suggest an outburst of 800 meteors per hour; 100 per
hour is a more likely maximum. Bright moonlight might reduce the number of
meteors visible in a single hour to no more than 25% of these values.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 18.
Time: 3:44 am UT (10:44 pm EST on Friday)
Earth will approach material ejected from comet Tempel-Tuttle in 1733.
Experts say this is the most likely time to see a Leonids outburst in 2000.
Models suggest as many as 700 meteors per hour under ideal conditions,
although bright moonlight could reduce that number by 75%. If it occurs, this
outburst might last for a few hours centered around the time of the peak.

Observers in the United States are not favorably placed for this potential
flurry. The constellation Leo, as seen from the US east coast, will be just
below the horizon at the time. However, east-coast observers could spot a
special type of meteor called an Earthgrazer. These are long, bright shooting
stars that streak overhead from just below the horizon. They often display
colorful halos and long-lasting trails. Earthgrazers are so distinctive
because they follow a path nearly parallel to our atmosphere.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 18.
Time: 7:51 am UT (2:51 am EST)
Earth will approach material ejected by comet Tempel-Tuttle in 1866. The most
optimistic predictions suggest 700 meteors per hour; 100 per hour is more
likely. Like the other peaks, this one will be less dazzling because of
bright moonlight that will substantially reduce the number of visible
meteors. The NASA meteor balloon will reach the stratosphere during this
peak. Don't miss the live webcast!

Florida realpolitik

by Brian Glazer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
November 17, 2000

The recent election has already secured its place as one of the most
unconventional in our history. Yet, the behavior of all the players is
about as conventional as it gets. If ever anyone has wanted to see what
actually happens behind the scenes, when the curtain is pulled tight, look
no further than Florida.

For as long as you can bear, grab an extra-large Coke, giant tub of
buttered popcorn, a box of Milk Duds and enjoy the show. The biggest glass
house of them all is open and everyone is exposed. Anyone who has ever
looked into the story behind a particular piece of legislation or political
fiasco knows that the wheelin' and dealin' never stops. Florida is not only
just another example; it's the issue the entire press and the entire world
decided to cover. If we focused this much energy on trying to learn more
about any apparently sincere piece of legislation, we'd see just as much
money, deceit, and innuendo as we have seen in Florida. Ladies and
Gentleman, this is how our government works. And it's probably not a far
cry from how it has always worked -- even in the so-called glory days of
this nation's first breaths.

Is this horrible news? No -- just an observation of the way things are. Who
ever claimed nature was honest and clean? The way elected officials do
their job hardly varies from the deception a snake uses to constrict a rat,
or the persistence with which a vulture keeps coming back to that same
stinking piece of roadkill. Let's not deny it anymore. Politicians are sent
into the melee and they behave like children fighting over toys -- that's
what we elect them to do. What good are they if they don't get their way,
no matter the virtue of their desire? We send them to Washington -- and our
local state capitals -- to achieve ends. Florida is the ultimate example of
them simply doing what we have asked them to do -- to act like swine so we
don't have to.

This discovery is not discouraging, though; it is useful -- as useful as
the discovery of germs. When germs were discovered, did we try to change
the way they behaved? Of course not, germs will be germs. Instead, we
conceived of ways by which to limit the amount of and the effectiveness of
those germs on us. But germs are necessary to our survival -- they come in
one mixed package of good and bad. We'd destroy ourselves before we
finished off the last evil bacteria.

Politicians will always be around, and they will always have a use. But to
pretend that they're going to be honorable and civil is futile. When your
daughter has been dating the quarterback for six months, if you're not too
late already, you've got two choices: get her on the pill or start painting
the spare room pink, yellow, and blue. Some things are inevitable.

Take a look down there in Florida. Crisis? No. That is not just how the
system works, that is how people work when power is at stake. For once,
though, they don't have the time to cloak their groveling ways in pomp and
circumstance. The great ceremonies and all the hoopla surrounding the
dignity of our leaders result only from the polished skills of some
hard-working choreographers. The present scenes on our televisions are the
closest we've ever been to witnessing political reality and it's
consequences. As Philip Wylie wrote in 1942, "The public never sees or
knows these statesmen -- by and large -- but only suffers from their
grotesqueries when it finds itself drowning in their results."

There are so many lessons to be learned from this

EDITORIAL EXEGESIS

"Gore hopes the White House will be the last stop on the 'no
controlling legal authority' express. ... There is a certain
unavoidable irony in having this spectacle of legal jujitsu created by
lawyers for the public official who claimed the defense of no
controlling legal authority. It sounded like a strange concept at the
time, but it's now clear that Mr. Gore clearly understands its meaning
and its uses. Its clear purpose in Florida now is to railroad an
outcome." --Wall Street Journal

"It is important to decide this election by the rules that 100 million
Americans understood -- or should have understood -- when they entered
the voting booth Tuesday. This is not just about fair play for Al
Gore and George W. Bush. It is about defending a system that regards
voting-day verdicts as the final word, a concept that distinguishes
this nation from most others in the world." --San Francisco Chronicle

SECOND OPINION

IF IT AIN'T BROKE

"The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of
President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an
eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications. Talents for
low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to
elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will
require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him
in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable
a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful
candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United
States. It will not be too strong to say, that there will be a
constant probability of seeing the station filled by characters
pre-eminent for ability and virtue." --The Federalist Papers, No. 68

For all the prescient wisdom ascribed to the Founding Fathers, it can
fairly be asserted that they never foresaw the day when the sitting
vice-president would be laboring so intensely to steal the presidency.
Predictably, after it became apparent that Al Gore could become the
fourth person to win the popular vote but lose the electoral vote, the
cries were immediate and furious for the abolition of the Electoral
College.

Of course, before the election, Gore's tone was markedly different.
When asked about legitimacy if Gov. Bush won the popular vote but lost
the electoral vote, Gore's operatives cited that you "use the rules in
play at the time of the election." With the tables turned, people who
should know better are now demanding an end to the system that
seemingly favored them just two weeks ago. Leading the charge,
predictably, is none other than Senator-elect Hillary Rodham Clinton,
a Yale Law School graduate who must never have read either the
Constitution or its definitive exposition, the Federalist Papers.

Rather than bemoan the Electoral College, there is more than ample
evidence that it is working exactly as the Founding Fathers intended.
Direct election of the president was something they intentionally
labored to avoid. "The President is indirectly derived from the choice
of the people, according to the example in most of the States," states
Federalist No. 39. This was because the Constitution was envisioned as
the framework for a federal, and not a national, government, a
republic not a democracy.

The rules governing presidential selection were established over 213
years ago, and are only now a point of contention to the potential
losers. Some Gore operatives and members of the media (please pardon
the redundancy) have asserted that the Electoral College is an "arcane
artifact," or an instance where "the Founding Fathers got it wrong."
In fact the Founders were in almost total unanimity about the College.
"The mode of appointment of the Chief Magistrate of the United
States," states Federalist No. 68, "is almost the only part of the
system, of any consequence, which has escaped without severe censure,
or which has received the slightest mark of approbation from its
opponents."

Ironically, in his articulation within Federalist No. 68, Alexander
Hamilton asserted that the Electoral College "was also peculiarly
desirable to afford as little opportunity as possible to tumult and
disorder. The choice of several, to form an intermediate body of
electors," he continued, "will be much less apt to convulse the
community with any extraordinary or violent movements, than the choice
of one who was himself to be the final object of the public wishes."
This was before, of course, ABC News developed the capability to call
and potentially intimidate electors in a number of states into
switching their votes to Vice-President Gore.

Just as the Electoral College's detractors betray a fundamental
ignorance and detest of the Constitution, so too do they have little
appreciat

__O__
FEDERALIST PERSPECTIVE

In the news this week, it's Day 10 of the Election 2000 hostage crisis
-- time for Republicans to get out the "yellow ribbons." For their
part, the Democrats proposed a new national motto: "In Chad We Trust."

Florida's Secretary of State Katherine Harris, who was statutorily
responsible for declaring the state's certified vote count by 1700
Tuesday, delayed by one day her announcement in order to hear appeals
regarding "recounts." On Wednesday, she rejected the Demos' ballot
interpretations and certified the election results on the completed
recount from the state's 67 counties as mandated by Florida law.

The "controlling legal authority" in this matter stipulates that, in
the absence of fraud (and the only fraud now appears to be the ballot
interpretation currently underway by the Algoristas), the
responsibility to vote correctly is the burden of the voter, and
ballots marked incorrectly can't be counted. In other words, if you
are too stupid to vote correctly, don't complain. But controlling
legal authority has never proved an obstacle to Albert Gore.

Friday morning, a Florida circuit court declared, correctly, that
Harris did not have to accept Gore's selective recount. On Saturday,
she is expected to add to the current totals, the final absentee
ballot count. If she then declares the state for George Bush, the
Algoristas promise to take their case into the federal courts, which
have, historically, been reluctant to overturn state election results.
(We suppose this means all that Demo-goguery for the last ten days
about "federalism," and letting state law rule, no longer has any
merit.)

Gore wants his trial lawyers to settle this election. As Joe Lieberman
explained, "That's what the American way is." This has forced the Bush
campaign to take its case to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and
defend the 14th Amendment's provisions for equal treatment of voters.

Again, the underlying assumption in national elections is that the
aggregate vote tally across the nation -- or in any state -- is
randomly, thus equally, flawed. It follows then that selecting a few
heavily Democrat voter regions for a subjective "hand recount," skews
the randomness of such flaws, adulterating the accuracy of the entire
election.

All the "chad" chatter is only as relevant -- and unjust -- as the
courts allow it to become. Subjective opinion about dimpled, indented,
hanging or pregnant chads should have no bearing on Florida's
certified vote count. (Since when do Democrats claim that "unborn
chads," which cannot speak for themselves, should have a voice?)

The only recount required by Florida law has been certified. It
confirmed George Bush as the winner in Florida's election, despite the
fact that thousands potential Bush supporters departed long voting
lines in Florida's conservative panhandle once the media unlawfully
called the state for Gore more than an hour before polls had closed.

Thomas Sowell says of the subjective interpretation of ballots,
"Democrats have come up with a [means of] counting, using their own
methods, which allow them to 'interpret' ballots that were not cast in
such a way as to be counted by the legally prescribed methods." Put
another way, Josef Stalin once said, "The people who vote decide
nothing. The people who count the vote decide everything." (Speaking
of "Old Joe," Russia is having a field day with this "perversion of
democracy," and Cuba has offered to send international observers to
oversee the recount for Mr. Gore.)

Albert Gore's strategy is, of course, to delay his concession in
Florida as long as possible, claiming that "democracy is not being
served" and allowing his surrogates, Jesse Jackson, Donna Brazile and
Kweisi Mfume, to heat up civil unrest by stirring the pot of the
"disenfranchised." There is a distinct possibility, regardless of how
the state's election is called, that Gore will never concede --
keeping the wound open for years.

Fragmentation of the nation into dependent constituencies is the
hallmark of the New Democrats' "divide and conquer" politics. Gore has
proven himself the greatest of dividers. He has split America by age,
sex, sexual preference, income, moral teachings, Second Amendment

Palm Beach County's
New Voter IQ Test

THE PALM BEACH COUNTY Board of Elections has devised the following test to
determine which people will be certified to re-cast their votes in the
presidential election. The test is designed to identify actual Democrats too
dumb to follow an arrow from a name to a circle. Applicants will be given
three hours to complete the test.

1)You are overcharged for an item you bought in the supermarket. You should

a) ask the supermarket to refund your money
b) tell the supermarket to keep the money
c) ask the supermarket to give your money to someone else
d) I do not understand the question

2. You are served a cup of hot coffee at a fast food restaurant. You should

a) take a tiny sip to see how hot it is and then wait for it to cool before
you drink it
b) take a big slug of it to see how hot it is
c) take it out to the car, place it on the seat between your legs, and tell
the driver to hurry up because you're late for work
d) I do not understand the question

3. You are brutally attacked by a knife-wielding maniac. You are carrying a
gun. You should

a) shoot him
b) call 911
c) tell him you understand that he's upset and offer to go with him to
counseling
d) I do not understand the question

4. While walking on the street with you, your grandmother is assaulted by a
knife-wielding maniac. You are carrying a gun. You should

a) shoot the madman
b) tell Grandma not to resist
c) offer to take Grandma's place
d) I do not understand the question

5. The population of the nation's jails has grown dramatically. The most
logical consequence of this increase is

a) the crime rate will go down
b) the crime rate will go up
c) there will be no change in the crime rate because there is no connection
between increased incarceration and lower crime rate
d) I do not understand the question

6. Candidate A has won the popular vote but has lost the electoral vote to
Candidate B. The best way to solve the dilemma is

a) declare Candidate B the winner because the Constitution requires it
b) change the Constitution
c) declare Candidate A the winner because you voted for him
d) I do not understand the question

7. If there is a tax surplus it should be

a) returned to the people who overpaid
b) retained by the government
c) given to anyone who receives an earned income tax credit
d) I do not understand the question and I don't see what this has to do with
question #1.

8.Your neighbor's great-great-great-great grandfather once stole a horse but
was never punished. Your neighbor, however, knows the
great-great-great-great grandson of the horse's owner. Your neighbor should

a) swap great-great-great-great grandpa stories with the horses' owner's
great-great-great-great grandson
b) make good on the horse
c) require you to make good on the horse
d) huh?

9. Same neighbor, same horse, same situation as question 3. You should

a) be polite when your neighbor tells the story for the thousandth time
b) offer to pay for the horse
c) vote for the candidate who will require everybody in the country to pay
for the horse
d) I still don't get it

10.Your slow pitch team loses the championship by one run. You should

a) congratulate the winning team
b) lodge a protest with the league chairman
c) demand to re-play the game
d) what does this have to do with the election?

Scoring:

Each "a" answer is worth one point. Each "b" answer is worth 2 points.
Each "c" answer is worth 3 points. Any "d" answer is worth 50 points.

1-10 points - you are a Republican

11-20 points - you are a Democrat

21-30 points - you are a Democrat and you are dumb, but we believe you can
connect the dots

Over 30 points - you were confused by the ballot and will be allowed to vote
again.

[CTRL] World Series not over yet!!!!!

-Caveat Lector-

World Series not over yet!

NEW YORK (AP) --The New York Mets announced today that they are going to
court to get an additional inning added to the end of Game 5 of the
   World Series.

The batting, pitching, and bench coaches for the Mets held a press
conference earlier today. They were joined by members of the Major
League Players Union. "We meant to hit those pitches from the Yankee
pitchers," said the Mets batting coach. "We were confused by the
irregularities of the pitches we received and believe we have been
   denied our right to hit."

One claim specifically noted that a small percentage of the Mets batters
had intended to swing at fast balls, but actually swung at curve balls.
It was clear that these batters never intended to swing at curve balls,
though a much higher percentage were not confused by the pitches.
Reporters at the press conference pointed out that the Mets had
extensively reviewed film of the Yankees pitchers prior to the World
Series and had in fact faced the Yankees in inter-league play earlier in
   the year.

"The fact remains that some of the pitches confused us and denied us of
our right to hit," said the Mets batting coach. "The World Series is
not over yet and the Yankees are celebrating prematurely."

Major League Baseball has reviewed the telecast of all the World Series
games and recounted the balls and strikes called by the umpires of each
   game.

"While some of the strikes called against the Mets were, in fact, balls,
there were not enough of them to change the outcome of the World
   Series," the commissioner said.

Another portion of the Mets legal claim stated that, based on on-base
percentage, the Mets had actually won the World Series, regardless of
the final scores of the games. "It's clear that we were slightly
on-base more often than the Yankees," said a Mets spokesman. "The World
   Series crown is rightly ours."

The manager of the Mets has remained in relative seclusion, engaging in
some light jogging for exercise. He has stated that he believes "we
need to let the process run its course without a rush to judgment."

Daily Express - 11/7/00 - Scandal of the British soldiers 'poisoned in MoD
tests'
BY ALUN REESAND CYRIL DIXON - Ministry of Defence scientists face criminal
charges over horrifying experiments on service men and women during chemical
and biological weapons tests. Detectives investigating the activities at the
Porton Down research centre are considering charges which involve assault and
administering poison, Police have been investigating the deaths of more
than 40 "human guinea pigs" and injuries to more than 400 others at the
centre near Salisbury, Wiltshire. The inquiry team has taken dozens of
statements from victims and their families and could arrest and interview
former staff in the coming months. Officers have also seized records said to
include film of soldiers unwittingly fed the drug LSD by the scientists. The
investigation, which originally focused on experiments in the Fifties and
Sixties, has been widened to include research carried out up to the end of
the Eighties. from http://www.lineone.net/express/00/11/07/news/n1020-d.html

New Document Releases of MI5 material relating to WWII -- PRO

Images

The UK Public Record Office has recently announced the release of MI5
(Security Service) records related to World War II. The bulk of the
release is mainly personal files of British traitors, double agents,
and Nazi spies. These include William Joyce ("Lord Haw Haw") and his
wife Margaret; other individuals connected with the British Union of
Fascists; double agents HAMLET, PUPPET, and MULLET; and some leading
Nazi intelligence officers and agents. A link at the bottom of the
first URL will lead visitors to brief summaries of the individuals
covered, along with their file numbers. These will probably be most
interesting to scholars, but the collection of images should appeal
to anyone with an interest in the Second World War, traitors, and
secret agents.

Inside the Election:

Disrupting the cryptocracy's old ball game

by Michael A. Hoffman II

With all the hoopla about the election, the Florida recount and so forth,
some of my correspondents are wondering whether this crisis is a contrived
distraction.

Certainly it pays limited dividends to the Establishment as a distraction,
in so far as it detracts attention from the escalation of Israeli atrocities
against Palestinian civilians. But otherwise the Florida impasse is indeed
an authentic crisis for the oligarchy, because it represents a split in
their ruling coalition.

Fanatic Bolshevik and Jewish-Likud renegades within the Democrat Party,
desperate to elect a crypto neo-Communist like Gore, and a Learned Pharaoh
of Khazaria like Lieberman, have disobeyed the cooler masonic heads who had
cut a backroom deal.

My sources indicate that the election scenario was supposed to unfold this
way: the Establishment agreed in advance to give Bush the election in order
to consolidate the revolutionary gains made under Clinton, without putting
Americans in a vigilant or fighting mood. Bush will take the nation down the
Judeo-Masonic highway to hell at 45 m.p.h. Gore would have taken it at 90
m.p.h. The cryptocrats chose a George W. Bush presidency. The Democrats were
to receive major concessions in return, including a US Senate majority
thanks to gaining a seat from Washington state, which now, with the scrutiny
on election fraud, looks as though it will fall through.

However, the extremist Communist/Jewish wing of the Democrat Party revolted,
and staged the South Florida coup d'etat now unfolding as I write. The core
of the Establishment opposes this coup but the fanatics are not to be
trifled with (their Israeli counterparts assassinated Yitzhak Rabin). Their
power base is growing with the increasing idolization of Judaism in the
American heartland, particularly on the Right. Leading conservative
spokesman, including the two Joes --Farah and Sobran -- both defended
orthodox Judaism last month against the likes of Lieberman, pretending that
the Democrat Party and its vice-presidential candidate do not mirror
Talmudic principles and values.

Megalomania, whether in a Napoleon, a Hitler, an Ariel Sharon or Gore and
Lieberman is a destabilizing force. Cooler heads among the masonic
cryptocracy, as represented by President George Bush Sr., who attempted to
harness and channel the Bolshevik and Jewish fanatic elements during his
administration, understand this.

But the Skull and Bonesmen have to deal with the hot passions of Jewish
fanaticism fueled by the "Bible Belt" belief that "Jews" are saved by their
"divine" racial pedigree and are thus untouchable. When such immunity is
conferred by the Rev. Billy Graham's son, by Steven Spielberg, by syndicated
Dallas and Nashville newspaper columnists and by the whole corpus of "Nazi
Holocaust" agit-prop, the subjects of this idolatrous worship go crazy with
pride and break out of the "storied destiny" script, to rush for power
without sufficient forethought or calculation.

I'm delighted to observe this stampede and the resulting disruption in the
ruling class timetable and its formerly hermetically sealed elections. The
Establishment is losing face in the eyes of the people. The big shots are
looking weak, petty and divided.

Let's hope that in the aftermath of which ever Judeo-Masonic stooge finally
usurps the leadership of our nation, we achieve real election reform: paper
ballots, hand counted in the presence of local witnesses at the precinct
level (of course one can't accurately hand count machine ballots, which were
intended to be read by a machine). Vote fraud in Oregon and several other
states this year deserves more sustained investigation and publicity. (New
Hampshire still has paper ballots. Their elections are generally more
honest. Buchanan won the 1996 presidential primary in New Hampshire).

If you're voting with a machine, the so-called "margin of error" is great. I
don't care what sort of voting machine it is, 1960s vintage or a year 2000
device. At present, computer voting systems have little accountability --
who oversees the programmers who write the software that supposedly counts
the computerized votes? Software is extraordinarily susceptible to
manipulation and data corruption. The media and Congress have until now
shown little curiosity about this invisible,'Computer Wiz of Oz' process.

If the Founders of our Republic were correct when they said that the price
of liberty is eternal vigilance, I'm grateful that Americans are a paying a
bit more attention to this fascinating dis

Online Voting, Even if Secure, Won't Solve Election Troubles

By Gary Chapman

The uproar over last week's election results, particularly the
controversy over the vote in Florida, has fueled calls for online
voting. Some experts think the problems of last week could be solved
by computerized voting, while others insist that is fraught with
insecurity.

Controversy about how computers handle votes has been around for a
while. It was an issue championed for years by longtime Los Angeles
civil-liberties activist Mae Churchill, who died in 1996 at age 84.
Churchill was the founder of Pacific Palisades-based Election Watch,
and 15 years ago she convinced many technical experts that there are
serious problems when computers are introduced into the voting
process.

"Mae Churchill got me into this issue," said Peter Neumann, a
researcher at SRI International in Menlo Park, Calif., and an
internationally known authority on computer security. Now, he said,
"I would not trust a computerized voting system even if I had written
itmyself, because of the many ways in which such systems can be
subverted."

"It's so easy to rig an election," Neumann said. He cited the fact
that "punch card" ballots -- the cardboard ballots that use a punched
hole to read a vote -- can be invalidated simply by running a needle
through a stack of the cards. That can make it look like a vote for
two candidates for the same office. Florida election officials threw
out more than 19,000 ballots last week because of the appearance of
voters selecting two candidates in the presidential election.

In Boston in 1993, Neumann said, a local election's results were
reversed after authorities discovered errors caused by "hanging
chad," the tiny paper remnant of a punched hole that can hang off the
back side of the card ballot and then reclose the hole when the
ballot is run through a light scanner for tabulation. This problem
reportedly caused some of the vote tallies to change in last week's
recounts in Florida.

Also in 1993 in Florida, a St. Petersburg precinct that had no
registered voters because it was an industrial area showed 1,429
votes for an incumbent mayor, who won by 1,425 votes.

Another Florida case happened in 1988, when there were 200,000 fewer
votes in the Senate race than for the presidential candidates, and
most of the missing votes came from four counties that used the same
computer vote-tallying vendor.

"If it was built by man, it can be broken by man," said Doug Lewis,
director of the Election Center in Houston, an organization that does
training and consulting for election officials nationwide. "People
asking for [online voting] don't understand the electoral process and
the incredible safety and security problems that go into that."

"I do worry that computer elections systems are large and complex
systems," said David Jefferson, the technical director of the
California Internet Voting Task Force and a researcher at Compaq
Systems Research Center in Palo Alto. "The main worry is not bugs in
the software or in communications, but each time they are used they
have to be configured rather elaborately. Ballot choices have to fit
a voter's residence, which can often be a complicated task. If they
are misconfigured they can produce erroneous results."

The California secretary of state's task force on Internet voting
recommended against remote online voting earlier this year.

"We have to understand that the security problems for allowing that
are so severe that we can't recommend that solution at all. These
problems are inherent in the architecture of the personal computer,"
Jefferson said.

Instead, some online voting proponents are supporting an interim
solution: polling-place computer voting. "That kind of Internet
voting can be fielded now, and the security problems are manageable,"
Jefferson noted.

Polling-place electronic voting involves using a networked computer
to vote at a conventional polling site. This method has the added
security of controlling the machines and identifying each voter in
person.

Some argued last week that polling-place electronic voting would have
solved some of the problems Florida encountered. "Spoiling a ballot
would be prevented by computer," Jefferson said. The computer program
could prevent a confused or deliberate vote for two candidates in the
same race. Another benefit might be that counties could report
real-time vote counts, which could help prevent television networks
or Web sites from inaccurately guessing at how a state's electoral
college vote might turn out. Vote totals also could be reported
instantly after the polls closed.

But Jefferson said the alleged confusion last week in Palm Beach
County, Fla., where some people claim to have voted for Pat Buchanan
when they meant to vote for Al Gore, still could be a problem in
electronic voting, Jefferson said.

"Someone with a good design sense has to be in charg

ATLANTA (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Friday rejected a request
from Florida Republican voters for an injunction to halt manual recounts that
Democrats believe could deliver the White House to Vice President Al
Gore (news - web sites).

In another blow to Republican hopes, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in
Atlanta ruled that ``states have the primary authority to determine the
manner of appointing presidential electors and to resolve most
controversies concerning the appointment of electors.''

Fla. Top Court Stops State From Naming Election Winner

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Reuters) - Florida's Supreme Court on Friday
blocked election officials in the state from certifying final results in the U.S.
presidential election, boosting Democrat efforts to amend the disputed
tallys.

It said in a ruling that the recounting by hand of votes in key counties could
go on.

Florida election officials had intended to announce the winner in the state --
expected to be Republican George W. Bush (news - web sites) -- on
Saturday, ignoring recounts which Democrats believe could give Vice
President Al Gore (news - web sites) victory.

Bush leads Florida, the kingmaker state, by just 300 votes with overseas
ballots due in by midnight Friday.

American Influence Abroad May Shrink
By WALTER RUSSELL MEAD

NEW YORK--As the country awaits the outcome of the presidential
election, few have had the time or the emotional energy to look down
the road at the longer-term implications of one of the closest
electoral contests in U.S. history. At a time when Americans were
largely obsessed by the twists and turns of the domestic political
soap opera, fewer still were looking at the consequences of the
electoral deadlock for foreign policy.
Yet, there will be consequences, and they could be severe. The
next four years are shaping up as a time of serious testing for U.S.
foreign policy, and a divided Congress and a president with a weak
mandate, at best, will find it extremely difficult to navigate the
shoals lying ahead.
It won't be the big, obvious challenges that cause the real
problems. If Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait again, the United States
will once more go to the defense of the oil-rich sheikdom. If China
attacks Taiwan, the United States will appropriately respond. Both
parties are likely to cling to the long-standing policy of nudging the
Palestinians to make a deal with Israel. And U.S. influence in Russia
will remain weak.
Unfortunately, not all the challenges are this clear-cut. Take
Mexico. The United States urgently needs President-elect Vicente Fox
to succeed at his twin projects of modernizing the Mexican economy and
solidifying Mexican democracy. Mexico is going to need more resources,
more understanding and, on issues like immigration, a more generous
policy from the United States. With public opinion still bitterly
split over the North American Free Trade Agreement, and Minority
Leader Richard A. Gephardt's Democrats more partisan than ever in the
House, coming up with a new, positive consensus policy on Mexico will
be harder to do.
Then there's the Andean region, seemingly bent on disproving all
the optimists who just a few years ago predicted that an era of stable
democracy was dawning in Latin America. Colombian drug lords and
Marxist guerrillas--from a U.S. point of view, the alliance from
hell--have fought that country's corrupt and sometimes ill-disciplined
armed forces to a standstill, and the violence is spilling over into
Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador and the home of the Panama Canal.
Peru, meanwhile, is flirting with a return to its banana-republic
days, Ecuador is closer to political and social meltdown and the
president of Venezuela, one of the largest sources of U.S. oil
imports, is literally crooning love songs with Fidel Castro on the
radio and expounding vague but, from the standpoint of foreign
investors, alarming theories of what he calls a "Bolivarian
revolution."
A serious crisis could flare up in this region at a moment's
notice, and those who remember the controversies over Central American
policy in the 1980s--and the continuing bitter battles over Cuba
today--know how hard it can be for the United States to develop a
political consensus concerning neighborhood policy.
Expanding NAFTA or pushing harder to establish a free trade area
of the Americas are proposals most of the Washington establishment
think have the best chances for stabilizing the region but, again, it
is hard to see a politically enfeebled president and a divided
Congress mustering the determination to move far down either road.
Trade gridlock could have repercussions beyond the Western
Hemisphere. It will be harder for a weak president to make the kinds
of creative concessions and compromises necessary to resolve trade
disputes at the World Trade Organization, thereby increasing the risk
of trade wars with partners like the European Union. Fast-track
authority for new trade rounds will be difficult, if not impossible to
get.
The news isn't all bleak. In some cases, Republicans and
Democrats are more united than their rhetoric suggests. Candidate
George W. Bush may have downplayed environmental concerns and attacked
the Kyoto Protocol, but world public opinion is worried enough about
global warming that, like it or not, the U.S. has to be part of
diplomatic efforts to address it. Ditto on AIDS. Whether or not Bush
agrees that AIDS is a "national security threat" to the United States,
the humanitarian and economic consequences of the HIV-AIDS epidemic
are severe enough that both common decency and self-interest will
compel the U.S. to take part in international efforts to halt the
spread of the disease and to treat those who suffer from it. No U.S.
administration can afford to ignore the international clamor for
nuclear arms control, just as it cannot ignore the domestic popularity
of national missile defense.
The real danger may be that the two parties will hold foreign
policy hostage in an atmosphere of partisan bickering. If Congress
settles down into trench warfare, the ability of the United States to
cond

Election Snafus Went Far Beyond Florida in Year When It Mattered
By JIM CARLTON, CHIP CUMMINS, PATRICIA CALLAHAN and ANNE MARIE SQUEO
Staff Reporters of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

Late on Election Day, at least four people showed up at an election office
in Portland, Ore., and began collecting already-marked ballots from
unsuspecting voters. "They were just grabbing people's ballots," says
election official Vicki Ervin, who confronted the foursome, prompting them
to flee on foot. "I have no idea where they took the ballots."

Meanwhile, in Milwaukee, the district attorney's office is investigating
allegations that a number of Marquette University students voted more than
once at several raucous polling places. The prosecutor is also looking into
allegations that a Democratic Party volunteer traded cigarettes for the
votes of homeless people. In Las Cruces, N.M., a clerical error, discovered
six days after the election, produced a critical 500-vote swing in favor of
Al Gore.

Florida, it seems, isn't alone -- or even particularly exceptional -- when
it comes to election snafus. Oregon, once thought to be a paragon of
election reform, has potentially hundreds of ballots unaccounted for, and
thousands more yet to be tallied. The state is still too close to call.
Iowa, Wisconsin and New Mexico report new problems almost daily.

The campaign of George W. Bush said Thursday it won't challenge Mr. Gore's
narrow wins in Iowa and Wisconsin. The Bush camp further said it won't
challenge the results in New Mexico, where Mr. Gore is leading but has yet
to be declared the winner.

Voting irregularities, outright fraud and plain-old mismanagement are as
much a part of the grand tradition of American elections as
red-white-and-blue bunting. "There are always warts and problems," says
John Dendahl, chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party. The only reason
the warts have received so much attention this year is that in each of
these four states, the vote for president was so excruciatingly close.
Whether the majority of voters in these states intended to vote for Mr.
Gore or Mr. Bush may never be known.

So far, no one this year is alleging the sort of outright vote stealing
that marked the White House campaign in 1888, when Democrat Grover
Cleveland won the popular vote but lost to Benjamin Harrison in the
electoral college. Nor does the 2000 election rival the 1960 presidential
contest, after which Republicans complained that the late Richard J. Daley,
the former mayor of Chicago, had thrown enough votes to make John F.
Kennedy the winner.

But even if votes from the graveyard and stuffed ballot boxes haven't
surfaced this year, plenty of problems remain. And in an election as close
as this one, the irregularities are numerous enough to cast doubt on the
overall result.

In quirky Oregon, which this year did away with precinct polling in favor

to promise Queen Elizabeth to seat him far away as he had behaved so

Russia Promises Weapons to China to Destroy U.S. Navy

 NewsMax.com
 Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000

In the event of hostilities between mainland China and Taiwan,
top Russian military and political officials want China to have the
potential of "guaranteed destruction of any U.S. navy aircraft
carrier strike groupings" and have pledged to supply Beijing with
the weapons it needs to accomplish this, Russia’s
Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper reports.

According to the Hong Kong TaiYang Pao, Red China’s military
brass are developing a new five-year plan to enable the
People's Liberation Armed Forces [PLA] to have "the strength
to win a high-tech war against intervening foreign [U.S.] military
forces while force is used against Taiwan," along with "the
capability to counter-attack the hegemonist [U.S.] military forces,
including the nuclear weapons capability."

The new PLA air force five-year plan includes reliance on
Russia’s supplying Beijing with Russian-designed Sukhoi fighter
aircraft as the mainstay of a total inventory of 2,200 new and
upgraded aircraft, according to the prestigious American
Foreign Policy Council, which closely monitors China’s military
establishment.

The plan calls for the building of several strategic airports and
120 mobile anti-aircraft radar stations. One-third of the Sukhoi
aircraft will come from Russia, one-third will be assembled in
China using Russian parts, and another third will be built in
China using Russian technology and production-line equipment.

During a visit to Beijing, Russian Premier Mikhail Kasayanov put
the finishing touches on several military technology contracts
expected to be signed next month during the Russia-China
Bilateral Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation
meeting, according to Nezavisimaya gazeta.

To be supplied are various types of 3-dimensional radar
systems, Shtil ship-based anti-aircraft missile systems,
electronic warfare systems, Ka-28 anti-submarine warfare
helicopters and Ka-27 ship-based helicopters.

The Russian also promised that China would be able to "count
on a positive decision by Russia" to provide reconnaissance
satellite information on strategic military facilities in Taiwan.

According to Agence France-Presse, at a prominent Zuhai air
show China displayed the model of a new aircraft-delivered
supersonic missile, which poses a grave threat to Taiwan.

"It's a brand new anti-ship or anti-radar missile, which could
have considerable range," said Richard Fisher of the
U.S.-based Jamestown Foundation.

"This is the first confirmation that this type of program is alive
and making progress."

Fisher said that because the missile is supersonic, it could not
be destroyed in flight. It appears primarily to be aimed at
destroying radar systems and can easily traverse the Taiwan
Strait.

One thing I have always noted - though a Democrat I somehow liked the
Republicans better for rich or poor, they seemed to be more gentlemanly.

Always liked George Papa Bush and Baby Bush because they are very
gentlemanly.never could take that "Hey Stella" mentality say as
Marlon Brando played in Street Car Named Desire.

Conservative Republicans are more gentlemanlygood example of
democrats who are not gentlemen - look at Clinton..speaks with soft
voice, but when you get behind closed doors, who knows what goes?W

and the war which has raged the area north of the Caucasus for over a year
and a half. At 02.00 local time (23:00 GMT) the most lucid reports began
to arrive from the Magaramkent region on the Caspian Sea regading the
"unidentified flying object" which had caused Russian forces to sound
battlestations.

Soldiers provided a detailed description of the artifact or device they
witnessed for a long time as it flew slowly eastward toward the sea. Some
garrisons noted that it was an object flying at low altitude (some 100
meters) and had three fluorescent lights above it with 2 meter spaces
between them, according to the Russian Ministry of the Interior in
Dagestan. Several civilian witnesses agreed on the description and light
arrangement of the mysterious phenomenon, while hesitating to ascribe its
origin to a secret weapon of the Russian army or a new weapon in the hands
of Islamic separatists.

Scientists at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Dagestan were cautious
and stated their unwillingness to state if the object in question was
indeed a UFO or a natural optical phenomenon. Military reports, the alarm
caused by the apparent UFO and the jet fighters scrambled--too late--in
its pursuit, have renewed mistrust regarding the traditional secrecy shown
by Russian authorities in the light of such situations.

Acting quickly to forestall any possible reprimands, the most mistrusting
military officers indicated that it could be a NATO spy plane interested
in Russian maneuvers in the Caucasus and the Caspian, which are rich in
gas and oil. Muslim leaders in Dagestan were less ambiguous in their
statements: the strange heavenly event was a portent which bore a message
from Allah himself. Even a mufti or spiritual legislator from Dagestan
showed no hesitation in stating that without any doubt it was "a djinn, an
angel or other heavenly being, since God's masterpiece is filled with
them."

The Bush Family, Florida, & The American CIA - Part 1
By Sherman H. Skolnick [EMAIL PROTECTED]
http://www.skolnicksreport.com
11-15-00
The former head of America's secret political police has three of his sons
and their cronies, in and out of state and federal government, in various
covert and reputed fraudulent enterprises.

Family patriarch, George Herbert Walker Bush, has a lot to answer for, which
the oil-soaked monopoly press never seems to question. The elder Bush, as we
have demonstrated, together with three of his sons, George W., Jeb, and Neil,
have 25 super secret bank accounts worldwide, through which they have
laundered tens of BILLIONS of dollars of illicit funds from the dope traffic,
from weapons smuggling, and clandestine and illegal gold smuggling overseas.
The commissar of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, we prefer to label him
Redspan, through his secret authorization codes, arranged the clandestine
wire transfers for the Bush Family. [See our website series, "Greenspan Aids
and Bribes Bush" and documents thereto attached.]

The major news networks have not publicized what they already know and have
corroborated about the Bush Family and their cronies. One of the most active
of the family has been Jeb Bush, at the time of this posting, Governor of
Florida. He and his two brothers, and their cronies, have reportedly
committed a series of real estate frauds, bank swindles, and other reputed
massive rip-offs, for which they should have been prosecuted and imprisoned,
and which have caused the taxpayers and innocent parties billions and
billions of dollars. A list of their reputed fraudulent enterprises includes
but is not limited to the following:

* Marco Island Securities
  * Cosmos Development Group
* Destin Country Club Development (Destin, Florida)
  * Harken Energy (Bahrain oil development and financial laundry)
  * Swissco Management Group * American Bank and Trust of Pensacola, Florida
* Orange State Bank of Miami, Florida
* Cadillac Development Group, Miami, Florida

Jointly with his father and the American CIA, Jeb Bush reportedly used these
enterprises as a reputed massive money laundry for illicit funds, including
funds for bloody dirty tricks of the spy agency, such as overthrowing foreign
governments deemed unworthy or unfriendly to the spy shop and, on occasion,
assassinating foreign leaders. Reportedly participating in these schemes has
been Porter J. Goss, more recently a Congressman (R., Florida), and
previously a covert operations officer of the American CIA. Also interwoven
with these fraudulent enterprises has been Henry Hyde, Congressman from
Chicago suburbs. In violation of the U.S. Constitution's mandate of
Separation of Powers, Hyde is also head of the CIA's "black budget" using the
dope trafficking proceeds to finance dirty tricks. Hyde was supervising
authority of the Mena, Arkansas airport dope trafficking for CIA, jointly
with George Herbert Walker Bush, Ollie North, and William Rockefeller
Clinton. Hyde has reportedly assisted the Bush family in laundering illicit
funds through the Paradise Island (Bahamas) gambling casino. [As we have
pointed out elsewhere on our website, Hyde has been criminally implicated
with the Paradise Island gang since1969.]

Goss, a Congressman from Florida's 14th Congressional District, has been
Chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, that in secret
sessions, supervisers the American CIA and their murderous dirty tricks. The
Majority Staff Director of the Select Committee, John Millis, was murdered,
and typical of an intelligence "hit", was disguised as an alleged "suicide".
Just prior to being murdered, disgruntled for various reasons, Millis
arranged to leak to a certain outspoken independent minded journalist, lists
of CIA proprietary firms, used to disguise CIA dirty tricks. The lists with
accompanying details criminally implicates George Herbert Walker Bush and his
three sons, Jeb, George W., and Neil, and their cronies in Florida State
government. Some of these CIA adjuncts, privatized for "cover", have been
owned, in turn, by Caribbean and European tax havens, where local laws
guarantee absolute secrecy, and where financial enterprises and "shell
companies" launder the illicit proceeds from the dope traffic, weapons
smuggling, gold covert traffic, and the sale of nuclear bomb triggers.

[An Italian-based scandal, interwoven with this, was the Roger D'Onofrio
Affair, subject of Reuters and other wire service stories not well-publicized
in the U.S. These stories, under a Rome dateline, ea

Our mayor here is a woman, and she's not even an adornment--believe me. I
think the Conservatives haven't changed at all. It's ladies to the loo and

requirement that ladies "submit graciously" comes from the very conservative

CFVC’s Christopher Bollyn Appears at National Press Club

As a member of the Citizens for a Fair Vote Count Steering Committee,
journalist and investigative reporter Christopher Bollyn was the guest
of honor for dinner at the National Press Club at the invitation of the
Sarah McGlendon group on November 15, 2000. (Sarah McGlendon was
recognized as the first White House Correspondent. She came to
Washington as a young woman as a contemporary of Helen Thomas, who just
retired, and in those early days reported back to parts of Texas and the
southwest. Sarah McGlendon is now in her eighties, and her group is
known for trying to invite speakers who are covering stories that are
not being given sufficient play in the major media, or who are covering
stories from a different angle that the major media.)

John Hurley, a southern gentleman, was the master of ceremonies.

The crowd was very receptive and the entire speech by Bollyn was treated
very seriously. A question and answer period followed. Bollyn spoke for
about 45 minutes followed by 45 minutes of questions and answers

Several dozen people attended the event and Channel 9, the local CBS TV
affiliate in Washington D.C., showed up and interviewed Mr. Bollyn –
carrying his comments in a spot on the late news in Washington D.C..

One would think that – at the National Press Club – any speech attacking
the five major Networks and their sister major newspapers in the
controlled press -- would be met with derision and hostility. While this
was an older crowd, with not many active journalists, there was great
concern over vote rigging and potential vote rigging in the United
States, especially in light of Christopher Bollyn’s new revelations.

This event is a microcosm that goes to show that we should take heart
that there are honest, concerned people everywhere; that we should take
very seriously that map that’s making the rounds showing that Gore was
only supported in a relatively few big cities, and that more than 90% of
the geographical area of the USA went for Bush, who was largely viewed
(and built up as such by the Big Media) as the anti-Clinton candidate.

What’s happening is that a clever group of Super Criminals headquartered
in New York and D.C. are using Sun Tsu “Art of War” techniques via the
triple devices of Big Media, easily rigged Computerized Elections, and
control of the issue of money -- to BLUFF average Americans of all
persuasions out of their birthright – and out of their future.

Anyway, regarding Christopher Bollyn’s appearance at the National Press
Club on Wednesday November 15th, 2000 as the guest of honor of the Sarah
McClendon Group, addressing the gathering on the subject of “votefraud
vs. honest elections” as a member of the Citizens for a Fair Vote Count
Steering Committee, the following conclusion must be made:

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.

Jim Condit Jr.,
Director, Citizens for a Fair Vote Count

The "Ruling Elite", through their five Big TV Networks, AP wire service, and
two major papers, the New York Times and Washington Post, are making peaceful
change impossible at the ballot box, -- via Vote Fraud, Media Censorship,
and Poll Fraud, and the flood of illegal aliens who are becoming registered
voters . . . President Kennedy talked about this:

"If you make peaceful change impossible. you make violent revolution
inevitable." President John F Kennedy

Go to www.votefraud.org to hear (or read the text) of the Radio Ads which are
now airing over WLW Radio (which reaches into 38 states at night)and other
stations -- exposing the easily rigged computerized elections which are about
to "elect" the next President, and also exposing the coordinated news and
censorship of the 5 Big TV Networks. Thanks to Ken Lowndes for Congress, the
radio stations MUST air these ads. They're tough. They're "outrageous" -- and
you've never heard anyting like it on TV or Radio.

The three prongs of Big Media election manipulation are: Massive coverage of
favored Candidates, and Censorship of all other candidates -- including
warped Public Opinion Polls for months before the election; phony exit polls
done by joint effort of the Big TV Networks on Election Day, and easily
rigged computerized vote counting on election day -- which make the polls and
exit polls come true. (On election day, the people are barred from touching
or counting their ballots, the election officials are barred from knowing
what is in the software program that instructs the computers how to count the
votes.)

Updates About Network America and Votefraud.org, and an Appeal

As of today we have reached 1332 subscribers to our Network America
e-wire. This e-wire is one of our rare but periodic appeals, and an
update.

In the last few days since the election, thanks to the Providence of
God, I have appeared on numerous radio programs, all of which we
appreciate.

TODAY ALONE – I talked to (on behalf of all of you who support this
effort) from 1) a reporter at the AP wire who is working on a story
about Voter News Service; 2) and received a call from a reporter at All
Things Considered, the afternoon news program of the National Public
Radio (NPR), and the reporter taped about 5 minutes of material. (I also
gave this reporter Vicky Collier’s number at his request, so if anyone
hears any of this aired on All Things Considered, please let us know);
and 3) was called by Seth Reynolds of Real Life Productions, Inc. which
puts together documentaries for the BBC and other European Television
outlets. Mr. Reynolds said they coming to the USA to film. I gave him
some leads, and will get back to him with more.

Sometimes I have done up to 4 radio shows a day, including mainstream
Big City radio shows. Just since Sunday, I was able to carry the Honest
Elections message to WLW Radio in Cincinnati, in the studio both on
Saturday and Sunday night from about 9:30 till midnight on the Bill
Boshears Show. Also: KOGO in San Diego with host Roger Hedgecock during
evening drive time; the largest AM Radio station in Phoenix during
evening drive time, Zoh Heironimus in Maryland on the Zoh Show which is
heard in the Washington D.C. Corridor in the morning (Zoh received our
e-wire about the death threat received by Christopher Bollyn, and had
him on a guest this morning) ; with Quinn in the Morning on a major FM
talk station during drive time in Pittsburgh; on a dynamite talk show in
Rockford, Illinois – where one of the community papers is doing a full
scale votescam investigation on the local Board of Elections, -- and on
Denver’s largest AM radio talk station during morning drive. There may
have been others, but these come to mind at this writing.

Before more updates, --

Here’s the appeal: All new subscribers – as well as curious on-lookers,
AND any agents of influence for the Big Media or Intelligence Agencies
who are monitoring the Network Americ e-wire --- are , of course,
excused, as are those who have already sent generous donations.

But at this moment we are running “below very low” – and are in need of
keeping our website and webmaster going at the current pace, along with
the normal burden of phone bills and other regular expenses which keep
this operation going. Without Nora, you would not get your mail and
packages sent out quickly

We are aware that a main characteristic of internet surfers (including
and especially myself) is that we are INFORMATION FREELOADERS – and darn
proud of it!

However, if you feel it in your heart and have the ability in your
pocketbook to help, let me suggest the various ways you can choose from
to do help us expand this investigation and organizational effort in
these important days of opportunity.

First, any donation you send at votefraud.org -- or by mailing to
Citizens for a Fair Vote Count, PO Box 11339, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211 --
will be acknowledged with a Thank You gift. If you’ve already received
some educational materials from us, tell us what they are so we can send
you something else.

Second, you can order our Votescam “Crash Course” for $29.00 which is
explained in the bookstore at votefraud.org.

Third, you can order one of our new Convention videotapes from the list
on votefraud.org, or buy the whole set for $99. Permission to copy and
distribute goes with purchase.

Fourth, you can order the Votescam book by itself;

Fifth, the November, 1996 votescam issue of Relevance magazine

Sixth, any one of our audiotapes from the bookstore at votefraud.org –
these are great for listening in the car as you drive from place to
place

Seventh, if you are able, we will put to good use any large donations
which can be sent to either the newly formed Citizens for a Fair Vote
Count Educational Foundation (tax deductible), or simply to our Citizens
for a Fair Vote Count Acton Committee.

(Note: the Votescam book and Relevance are copyrighted – but everything
else we offer can be copied and distributed provided nothing is altered.
Audiotapes of the conferences at the Citizens for a Fair Vote Count
Convention -- will be along soon.)

All of these ways of helping us meet the sudden challenges and
opportunities which have flashed upon the horizen -- will help you also
as you get the information you need to inform fellow citizens about the
problem and the solution.

Your donations = our survival in this work.

[CTRL] Fwd: Andrew Card

2000-11-17 Thread Kris Millegan

''¹Andy has always been one of the guys the Bushes can turn to in
difficult circumstances,' said Bob Marsh, a government relations specialist
at General Motors, where Card is now on leave from his job as director of
government affairs...²

Boston Globe
---
Versatile adviser regarded as ace in the Bush camp
By Anne E. Kornblut, Globe Staff, 11/16/2000

USTIN, Texas - When a hurricane hit Florida in 1992, President Bush
dispatched his friend Andrew Card to handle the public relations disaster,
amid accusations that the administration acted too late. Three months later,
the president summoned Card to handle a more personal crisis: making the
transition from the White House after losing to Bill Clinton.
Exactly eight years later, Card is back at the center of a maelstrom
involving both Florida and the Bush family, one of several friends of the
former president now advising George W. Bush on how to handle an election he
has not yet won. And in photographs and whispers, the campaign has made it
clear: Should Bush prevail, Card, 53, a former Massachusetts legislator and
corporate lobbyist, would probably be named White House chief of staff.
Card's sudden visibility is part of a careful strategy to make Bush appear
ready to take office; with the presidency hanging in the balance, the Texas
governor has invited TV crews to his home almost daily to capture him
surrounded by an image of his possible future Cabinet, including national
security specialist Condoleezza Rice and economics adviser Lawrence Lindsay.
But in the case of Card, aides said his presence in Texas last week was more
than ceremonial.
''Andy has always been one of the guys the Bushes can turn to in difficult
circumstances,'' said Bob Marsh, a government relations specialist at
General Motors, where Card is now on leave from his job as director of
government affairs. ''He doesn't go for self-promotion. He really avoids it
like the plague. He used to call himself the `worst leak in the White House'
and that's one of the reasons the Bushes respect him so much.''
In addition to complete loyalty, Card is seen as bringing to the Bush camp a
range of chief-of-staff-like qualities: deep political roots, a talent for
navigating Capitol Hill corridors, an easygoing personality, and a cool head
under pressure.
He is also a moderate - or, at least, ''by no means any kind of
right-winger,'' in the words of one former Beacon Hill colleague - a trait
that could prove helpful in building alliances with Democrats. Whichever
candidate ultimately wins, the narrow margins in the House and Senate will
make it necessary for the incoming president to sway members of the opposite
party, which colleagues say Card has a history of doing.
Philip Johnston, a Democrat who worked alongside Card in the Massachusetts
State House, said he ''would be very encouraged'' by the direction of a Bush
White House with Card in a position of power. ''I think it would be a very
encouraging sign for all of us in the country if Andy Card were the chief of
staff in the White House,'' Johnston said. ''It would give me some
confidence that they would avoid ideological conflict with the Democrats,
and I think he would argue for moderation and restraint, and, frankly, for
many issues I care about, issues affecting poor people, issues affecting
women.''
Born in Holbrook, Card comes from a family immersed in politics: His father,
the late Andrew Card Sr., was on the local school committee and ran for the
Legislature in 1966. His brother, Brad, works as chief of staff to a New
York Republican in the US House, Representative John Sweeney. His sister
Alison, who works for Governor John Rowland of Connecticut, is married to
Ron Kaufman, the Massachusetts committee member of the Republican National
Committee and former political director for President Bush.
Card's own political resume starts with the presidency of the class of 1965
at Holbrook High School, followed by four terms on Beacon Hill, where he
made his reputation pursuing corruption in the 1970s and '80s. Perhaps his
most famous accomplishment was helping to form the Ward Commission, the
panel that investigated corruption in the state's building of the University
of Massachusetts at Boston campus. After an unsuccessful bid to become
Massachusetts governor in 1982, Card become the liaison between state
officials and the White House in the Reagan era, then on to the Bush
administration, where he served three years as deputy chief of staff before

Report on Racist Intervention at the Polls - Thousands Affected

Boston Globe

Report alleging irregularities in works
By Reuters, 11/16/2000

BALTIMORE - A lengthy report documenting assertions that blacks and others
were denied the right to vote in Florida's presidential election will be
turned over to the Justice Department next week, the NAACP said yesterday.
The report will contain testimony from 20 witnesses who said at a hearing of
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People that they had
been prevented from voting by election staff, questioned by police, or
subjected to other irregularities.
Civil rights activists say thousands of voters may have been affected. Black
voters generally supported Democrat Al Gore.
The civil rights organization conducted a public hearing in Miami on
Saturday and continued to take closed-door testimony as late as Tuesday.
The NAACP called on Attorney General Janet Reno to investigate reports of
irregularities last week, saying there was evidence that authorities
violated the constitutional rights of voters. Its call has since been echoed
by lawmakers from the Congressional Black Caucus.
''The information we garnered at the hearing is being transcribed into a
report that will be handed over to the Justice Department next week,'' said
NAACP spokeswoman Jean Ross. ''Then it's up to them to determine whether
there have been civil rights or Voting Rights Act violations.''
The group's president, Kweisi Mfume, and other top officials have criticized
the Justice Department and accused it of failing to take the initiative in
addressing reports of wrongdoing.

[CTRL] Fwd: Secret Deal Aims to Resurrect Camp David and Trap Palestinians

2000-11-17 Thread Aleisha Saba

Why all this interesting in Israelies "going undergrund".previously
they have spoken of building tunnels, etc.

Perhaps there is something hidden there of which we do not know - maybe
lost gold of the Templars or ancient Kings and Queens.

Do they have hidden treasures stashed? Or why this need for Israelies
to dig tunnels and go underground like bats and moles???

Palestinians have a right to defend themselves and with a few rocks they
do quite well, do they not? If Israelies permitted to walk around
carrying Uzzis why not Palestinians? Now this, would be a fair matach.

Ehud Barak aka Brug is an assassin - a hired killer - who dressed as a
woman to kill..he is an Ashke-nazi Zionist and somehow I doubt even
that for he looks like a Russian KGB Jack Ruby type agenthe has
the look of Jack Ruby (Rubenstein) - the man who killed Oswald and he
has little beady eyes.

All these players are controlled by the CFR and if one gets out of line
- poof - goodbye old pal.
For we are dealing with the powers that be and who has been preparing
American for the kill?

Look at Waco and see the Palestinians - for they aim for the children to
kill and maimthey bring the iniquities of the fathers upon the
children, do they not?

Ralph Nader had right idea - cut off Aid to Israel = billions of dollars
to create a monster state...look at the people of Palestine - then look
at the Israel soldiers armed to the teeth - and remember the USS
Liberty. And the USS Cole and ask "cui bono, cui bono"

SECRET PLOTTING TO RESURRECT CAMP DAVID WITH "INTERNATIONAL" SUMMIT

ARAFAT REGIME BEING KEPT ALIVE FOR THIS PURPOSE

MID-EAST REALITIES - www.MiddleEast.Org - Washington - 11/17:
The Israelis are still at it, using the Americans to front for them, the Americans
using U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the Europeans to now to front for
them.
The Israelis have been desperate for years to get Arafat to sign an "end of
conflict" agreement before he is no more. The whole Oslo "peace process" has
been designed to get Arafat trapped into an agreement whereby the shrunken and
disjointed "Palestinian State" that comes legally into being is more a creation
of the Israelis than of the Palestinians, with severe limitations and restrictions
that lock in Israeli (and CIA) domination and control.
   Even as they target Palestinians with tanks, snipers, and helicopter gunships;
blockade and lay siege to their cities; destroy their economy; and threaten to
bring down Arafat's regime if it doesn't do what it was established to do; the
Israelis are also maneuvering in secret with the Americans and the Arab "client
regimes" to resurrect Camp David. Having failed on their own, the U.S. is now
using Kofi Annan and the Europeans to entice the Arabs and to give them political
cover.
Stated more succinctly, the Israelis are trying to torture the Palestinians
into submission; to use the Americans and the U.N. to push the Palestinians into
another major duplicitous historical agreement; and to entice the rich Europeans
and oil Arabs to pay-off the Palestinian refugees, even against their will.
It's a plot of immense historical proportions with the ultimate goal of perpetuating
American domination of the Middle East through the shoring up of the Arab "client
regimes" and foisting a "comprehensive peace" on the region that will actually
be a rebuilt Pax Americana. At the same time the Israelis would be integrated
into the region through new international agreements which the Arab client regimes
will be able to argue are justified because the Palestinians signed an agreement
and there is now a Palestinian State. Maintaining its vastly superior military
and economic power, coupled with its special alliance with the U.S. which may
include a formal treaty, Israel would have achieved its main historical aims
and would insist the conflict with the Arabs has been brought to a juridical
end. That's what all the pomp and circumstance once again at the White House
will be all about -- focusing the attention of the world on what the Israelis
and Americans want to present as a legitimate historic deal finally done, signed
and sealed.
Arafat and entourage were used to put down the first Intifada -- that's what
Madrid and Oslo were all about. Arafat and his regime are now kept going in
order to similarly deal with Intifada II -- that's what Camp David was supposed
to achieve by preemption and now what the "comprehe

[CTRL] notice of revocation of independence (variant... without the heartwarming merde)

-Caveat Lector-

NOTICE OF REVOCATION OF INDEPENDENCE
To the citizens of the United States of America,

In the light of your failure to elect a President of the USA and
thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of
your independence, effective today.

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical
duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories. Except
Utah, which she does not fancy.

Your new prime minister (The rt. hon. Tony Blair, MP for the
97.85% of you who have until now been unaware that there is a
world outside your borders) will appoint a minister for America
without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be
disbanded. A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether
any
of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the
following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English
Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium". Check the pronunciation guide. You
will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.
Generally, you should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. Look up
"vocabulary". Using the same twenty seven words interspersed with filler
noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient
form of
communication. Look up "interspersed".

2. There is no such thing as "US English". We will let Microsoft know
on your behalf.

3. You should learn to distinguish the English and Australian
accents. It really isn't that hard.

4. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English
actors as the good guys.

5. You should relearn your original national anthem, "God Save
The Queen", but only after fully carrying out task 1. We would not want you
to
get confused and give up half way through.

6. You should stop playing American "football". There is only
one kind of football. What you refer to as American "football" is not a
very good game. The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside
your borders may have noticed that no one else plays "American" football.
You
will no longer be allowed to play it, and should instead play proper
football.
Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is a difficult
game. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby
(which
is similar to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest
every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar
body armour like nancies). We are hoping to get together at least a US
rugby sevens side by 2005.

7. You should declare war on Quebec and France, using nuclear
weapons if they give you any merde. The 98.85% of you who were not aware
that there is a world outside your borders should count yourselves lucky.
The
Russians have never been the bad guys. "Merde" is French for "shit".

8. July 4th is no longer a public holiday. November 8th will be
a new national holiday, but only in England. It will be called
"IndecisiveDay".

9. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and it is
for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what
we
mean.

10. Please tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us crazy.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Quite frankly, I have found the most respect for women came from conservative
Republican men. Even though we
may have disagreed politically, socially, and/or economically, conservative Republican
men always have
respected my opinion and encouraged thoughtful debate.

OTOH, without exception, when involved in groups of a left-leaning, pro-Democrat

always treated us women as adornments, whose role was to make coffee and to support
the men 'in the great
fight'...

WSWS : News & Analysis : North America : US Elections

The Bush campaign and the rise of the political
underworld
By Patrick Martin
15 November 2000

The events which have taken place in the past week in the US
presidential election, beginning with Election Night itself, have
cast light on a political phenomenon of immense significance: the
rise to the pinnacle of the American political system of elements of
a gangster character.

These extreme-right elements, who now control the Republican Party,
know very well that they cannot take control of the American
government by democratic means, because there is widespread popular
opposition to their policies. Entrenched in the Republican
congressional leadership and the judiciary, they are now seeking to
seize control of the presidency through what amounts to a political
putsch.

The right-wing cabal includes operatives for the Bush campaign and
the Republican Party, steeped in the method of political "dirty
tricks"; media spokesmen like the Wall Street Journal, the New York
Post and an array of talk-radio hosts, for whom no lie is too brazen
or absurd; and the network of extreme-right lawyers, like the
sinister Theodore Olson [see "Profile of a right-wing conspirator:
the case of Theodore Olson"], who played central roles in the Paula
Jones lawsuit and the impeachment and trial of President Clinton.

The main weapon of the right-wing is the Big Lie. They operate by the
principle laid down by Adolf Hitler: the bigger the lie and the more
insistently it is repeated, the more easily it will be believed. And
a complacent and cowardly American media treats even the most
grotesque and flagrant lies as though they deserved credibility.

Thus Bush recount observer James Baker declares that a machine count
is more reliable than a hand count, because machines aren't
Democratic or Republican, when everyone knows that the hand count
will simply legitimize valid votes that the machine scanners were
unable to read.

Thus Bush press spokeswoman Karen Hughes repeats endlessly that Bush
has already won Florida once, twice or three times, and no press
representative dares to call her a liar and point out the simple
truth: no one has won Florida yet, and to claim otherwise is to
preempt the democratic process.

The purpose of these lies is to keep the country so inundated with
misinformation that public opinion is disoriented and even poisoned.
The goal is to cover up the elementary truth that a Bush victory
requires the suppression of votes cast in Florida by tens of
thousands of people. That is why the Bush campaign opposes a hand
recount or any other measure which would result in a more accurate
recording of the actual wishes of the Florida electorate.

The Bush campaign was developing backup plans to hijack the election
even before the November 7 vote. As was reported November 1 by the
New York Daily News, Bush aides were preparing to launch an anti-
constitutional effort to overturn a Gore victory in the Electoral
College if Bush succeeded in winning the popular vote. This was to
center on the use of right-wing talk-radio and other media attacks to
generate a "popular uprising" and pressure Gore electors to switch
their support to Bush. These methods are now being employed, under
differing circumstances, in an effort to stampede public opinion.

Typical of the method of the Big Lie, Bush and his media allies
accuse their victims of precisely the crime which they are attempting
to carry out—the New York Post, for instance, headlined one
commentary, "The Hijacking of the Presidency."

Such provocative language has an additional function. It legitimates
in advance whatever outrage may be committed by deranged right-wing
elements, the Timothy McVeighs who exist in significant numbers on
the fringes of the Republican Party. Their violence could potentially
be directed against anyone who opposes Bush's usurpation of power.

There is another sinister aspect of the whole affair. What is taking
place today in the United States bears many of the hallmarks of the
actions taken by US intelligence agencies to rig elections and topple
governments around the world. George W. Bush is unlikely to be
anything more than the front man for such an affair. His father,
however, was once head of the CIA, as well as commander-in-chief
during the Gulf War, and there is no question that the CIA and
Pentagon brass are heavily for Bush.

[CTRL] NYP: DEM IN SCHEME TO 'FLIP' ELECTORS

2000-11-17 Thread MICHAEL SPITZER

-Caveat Lector-

DEM IN SCHEME TO 'FLIP' ELECTORS

Friday,November 17,2000
BY BRIAN BLOMQUIST AND DEBORAH ORIN

A top Democratic operative yesterday admitted
"information-gathering" on Republican Electoral College members
to try to flip them to Al Gore - prompting GOP charges of
"tampering."

Gore campaign chief Bill Daley said it's news to him - but added
that veteran operative Bob Beckel is free to keep digging into
the backgrounds of Republicans pledged to Bush.

That raises the question of whether Gore means to fight all the
way until the Electoral College votes Dec. 18, particularly
since two South Carolina GOP electors say they've already gotten
anonymous calls asking them to flip.

"It is information-gathering on my part, using my own network,"
Beckel told the Wall Street Journal, which reported he
acknowledged his goal is to be ready to try to flip a few
electors.

Beckel, one of the Democratic party's most senior operatives, was
campaign manager for 1984 Democratic nominee Walter Mondale and
has close ties to Gore point man Warren Christopher.

"I call on mostly Democrats, but some Republicans, too, and ask,
'Who are these electors and what do you know about them?' I just
wanted to know who these electors are," Beckel was quoted as
saying.

He told the Journal that he hasn't contacted any electors
directly yet - "I wouldn't do that without first informing the
Gore campaign."

If Bush wins Florida, he'd have 271 electoral votes - just one
over the 270 needed to win - and flipping three would be shift
victory to Gore. In some states, electors must vote for the
candidate they're pledged to; in others, there's no such legal
requirement.

Beckel is one of the party's most senior operatives and heads a
self-named political consulting firm based in Arlington, Va. He
didn't return phone messages left at his home yesterday.

Gore campaign chairman Daley pooh-poohed Beckel's effort but said
he's free to go ahead with it: "I think it's a meaningless
effort. If he wants to do meaningless efforts, he can."

Gore spokesman Doug Hattaway would not comment on whether
Beckel's tactics are appropriate.

Republican circles buzzed over whether Beckel is trying to dig
dirt - as Clinton allies did during impeachment - and a House
Republican leadership lawyer warned that Congress can step in if
electors flip.

"It has a feel of tampering as opposed to people exercising their
own judgment," the GOP lawyer said. "We'd have to look at that
very closely."

Electors can be challenged when their votes are read
state-by-state on Jan. 6. It takes just one House member and
one senator to challenge - and majority votes in the House and
Senate to sustain a challenge.

Bush spokesman Ray Sullivan said: "It's additional proof that the
Democrats appear to be willing to pursue every option in delay
tactics and every maneuver to try to change the results. But we
believe Republican electors will vote for Gov. Bush."

The revelation that Beckel is digging into GOP electors'
backgrounds came as one of South Carolina's best-known political
journalists reported that two pro-Bush GOP electors say they'd
been asked to flip to Gore.

One said "I'd cut my arm off first before voting for Al Gore,"
and the other said "no way," reported Lee Bandy of The State
newspaper.

Both South Carolina electors said they'd gotten multiple calls
and assumed the unidentified callers were linked to the Gore
campaign, which denied making such overtures.

Meanwhile, House Republicans yesterday accused the TV networks of
calling states on a biased basis on election night to make it
look as if Gore was doing well and Bush badly.

Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-La.) pointed to CNN's calls and said nine
states that Bush won by at least 6 points - and as many as 15
points - had delayed calls while every state Gore won by 6 points
was called quickly.

N.Y. Times Poll Bombshell: Voters Now Back Bush Over Gore

After a week of high-stakes wrangling over Florida's photo-finish
presidential election, more Americans would rather see George W.
Bush become president than Vice President Al Gore, a New York
Times/CBS News poll has found.

Though Gore won the nation's popular vote on Election Day 49
percent to 48 percent, his conduct in the days since has
apparently prompted some of his supporters to jump ship. The
1,720 adults surveyed Friday through Sunday for the Times/CBS
poll picked Bush over Gore by a margin of 44 percent to 40
percent.

The Times reported that another 14 percent said they "don't know"
who should be president and 3 percent said neither should go to
the White House. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus
3 percent.

Unlike other post-election surveys conducted by Newsweek and
CNN/Time, New York Times/CBS pollsters used the same sample in
this survey as they used in pre-elections polls, which were
comprised of registered and likely voters.

The New York Times/CBS poll also showed that Bush supporters
remain adamant that their man won, while support among Gore
backers is weakening.

Ninety percent of Bush voters say the Texas governor should go to
the White House while just 74 percent of Gore voters want the
vice president to do the same.

Eighty-six percent of Bush voters approve of their man's handling
of the post-election crisis while just 73 percent of Gore voters
say the same thing about their candidate.

The stunning poll results first appeared in the Times' Tuesday
edition, where editors camouflaged the pro-Bush news by
headlining the least-newsworthy aspect of the poll's findings.
Nowhere in the paper's accompanying report are the new
presidential preference numbers noted.

But statistical charts and graphs under the Times' yawner
headline "Americans Patiently Await Election Outcome" revealed
the paper's biggest discovery: the popular majority that voted
for Al Gore on Election day is deserting the vice president in
droves.

What in the world are you talking about here? What people? My attorney?
The wealthy, well-educated retirees of Florida? No one can retire there
without some degree of wealth and usually that requires some education. Are
you implying those who can afford to retire to resort towns like West Palm
Beach are illiterate? Ha! Most Americans cannot afford to even vacation
there, let alone retire and live there. Surely you are not implying that
the "poor" millionaires of Palm Beach County, some of the most expensive
real estate in the country, are illiterate. You are amazing! That is a
stretch even for liberal Democrats.

Military Didn't Get Ballots, Plan Class-Action Suit

David M. Bresnahan Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000
NewsMax

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Attorneys for disenfranchised military
personnel plan to ask a judge to either let them vote late or
allow them to refuse to pay taxes for the next four years.
Large numbers of military personnel have complained that they did
not receive absentee ballots in time to vote, and now they are
taking action in court.

"What we would like to do is ask for injunctive relief and ask
for these people to have their ballots flown to them immediately
and allow them to vote and be counted in this election,
regardless of what state they’re in," attorney Philip E. Jones
told NewsMax.com in a phone interview.

"It’s not a principle of Democrat or Republican. It’s the
principle of the right to vote. "In the alternative, if the
judge doesn’t allow that, we’re going to ask for injunctive
relief in the form of allowing these people not to have to pay
their taxes for four years because they’ve been disenfranchised
from the political system by denying them their right to vote for
the next four years. That’s taxation without representation,"
said Jones.

Jones said he would file the class action suit on Monday,
initiated by three members of the military serving in Japan.
Two are from Florida and one is from Oklahoma.

He is inviting other members of the military to join in the suit,
which he is handling without cost to participants. He said he
was eager to document as many cases as possible of members of the
military who were denied their right to vote.

"It is our position that denial of the right to vote constitutes
not only a violation of one's fundamental constitutional rights,
but taxation without representation," Jones explained.

"We’re getting in reports and allegations of widespread cases of
this," said Jones.

Florida Servicemen Were Shipped Out Before Election

He is investigating complaints that a large number of military
were suddenly, and without advance warning, sent on a training
mission the day before the election. The large contingent was
stationed in Florida and did not request absentee ballots because
they were supposed to be in Florida on Election Day. The sudden
orders prevented them from voting.

"Of course, that can probably be explained off as ‘needs of the
Army, or Air Force,’ or whatever the case may be, for training
purposes. But it certainly looks suspicious,” said Jones.

He said many other complaints by servicemen and servicewomen were
being received. Parents are also sending in reports of
requesting absentee ballots for a son or daughter in uniform and
the ballots not being received. Jones is asking these people to
complete a sworn affidavit and fax it to his office as soon as
possible.

Was there an organized effort to prevent the military from
voting?

"It certainly seems like there’s been a lot of service members
who did not get their ballots worldwide who requested them," said
Jones.

The case will be filed in federal court on Monday, and Jones is
calling for military around the world to notify him if they have
been prevented from voting so he can demonstrate to the court the
full extent of the problem.

There is no expense for members of the military to participate in
the legal action because Jones is doing the work pro bono through
Campbell & Jones, Attorneys at Law, San Antonio.

"We need all parties to this suit to fax us a notarized statement
stating they applied for their ballot through the appropriate
channel and did not receive the ballot in time to vote, or did
not receive it at all.

"If any parties saved a certified receipt showing when they
requested their ballot, it will be very helpful. Also, if there
are any military orderly room records annotating service members'
requests for ballots, we could use copies of those, or sworn
affidavits from the appropriate supervisor," Jones explained.

Affidavits may be faxed to Jones' office at (210) 227-4229, 24
hours a day. Jones can be reached at (210) 224-1923. E-mail:

Pentagon: No absentee ballot problems

By Larry Wheeler and David Tortorano

Pensacola News Journal

Pentagon officials have no evidence that overseas absentee voting
by U.S. military personnel or civilians has been delayed or
disrupted.

With the outcome of the presidential election apparently hinging
on ballots sent from Florida residents residing or stationed
abroad, lawmakers and others have turned their attention to this
usually low-profile subset of voters.

U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough, R- Pensacola, requested that the
House Armed Services Committee investigate complaints from some
of his active-duty military constituents, who said they couldn't
obtain absentee ballots. With Congress in limbo, the panel has
yet to act on Scarborough's request.

Internet discussion groups and some online news services have
carried reports of missing bags of ballots. Yet little real
proof has been forthcoming.

``We're not aware of widespread or organized complaints
concerning individuals who couldn't get ballots through,'' said
Susan Hansen, a Pentagon public affairs official.

Responding to reports of delayed or missing ballots, Pentagon
spokesman Ken Bacon said he was informed that a few absentee
ballots were returned from Navy ships involved in the USS Cole
recovery operations.

``We're talking maybe a dozen,'' said Lt. Cmdr. Cate Mueller, a
Navy spokeswoman.

Once found, they were quickly moved along, she said.

The high stakes involving the count of overseas ballots in
Florida has put the military, which is prohibited from getting
involved in partisan politics, in an unusual position. The Navy
checked on some of its ships to ensure ballots were not still
lying in mailrooms or other locations when they should be en
route to county elections offices, where they must be tabulated
by midnight Friday.

``There's been some reporting that there's been 3,000 ballots
stuck out at sea. That's not true,'' Mueller said. ``Basically,
the great majority of military people who were going to vote have
done so.''

Beyond ``all this going on in Florida,'' the Navy has a strictly
nonpartisan stance on elections, Mueller said.

``It's not our business to be monitoring our people's voting
habits.''

She said the policy is reissued every election year so there's no
mistake about the prohibition against partisan politics. It goes
so far as to prohibit having a local politician on a base within
a campaign period.

But the Navy this year has been inundated with calls, primarily
in response to erroneous reports, she said. Most of the calls
concern ``things they've read that have been incorrect.''

The Navy is not the only organization getting calls from people
concerned about the election. Elected officials have received
calls, and so have election offices.

``We did have some concerns from voters,'' said Lynn Kowalchyk,
deputy supervisor of elections in Escambia County. She said the
number on Election Day was normal, but it was the day after that
was unusual.

``Normally after an election it's like a ghost town. But they
(the telephones) haven't stopped ringing. We get a lot of calls
about things that are in the news media, things about absentee
ballots, recounts.''

Many of those calls are not about this area, but about what's
going on elsewhere in the state. She said that's probably
because people simply want to speak to someone who knows about
elections.

``I've never seen it where you have so many people call and say,
I just want to make sure my vote counts,'' she said.

Military Q&A

Following are answers to some questions from News Journal readers
about voting by military personnel:

Q: How many overseas ballots are expected to be sent to Florida
from troops stationed overseas?

A: No one is completely sure, but there are 27,000 troops who
call Florida home, according to the Department of Defense's
Federal Voting Assistance Program.

In Escambia County, 1,802 ballots - 1,558 to military personnel -
were sent to people living overseas. In Santa Rosa County, the
total is 687. Santa Rosa does not have a separate tally for the
military.

Q: Have these overseas ballots been counted yet?

A: Some are in, but many are still on their way to election
offices.

Ballots received by 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 were counted that day, and
the totals were included in the overall vote tally. Those
arriving after that time will be checked and counted Friday
afternoon. The Escambia and Santa Rosa results will be available
that evening.

Q: Where do overseas troops send their ballots? Are they counted
or accounted for by the military?

A: As with all other voters, ballots cast by military personnel
are returned directly to the county in which they vote.

Q: Why weren't overseas ballots sent in by Nov. 7?

A: While other absentee ballots must arrive by Election Day, in
15 states, including Florida, those who are overseas have 10
additional days before their ballots have to arrive at the
supervisor o

Kings of Chutzpah

The American Spectator
by Evan Gahr

He vouches for O.J. Simpson, but Harvard Law School professor
Alan Dershowitz sure rushes to judgment with Katherine Harris. On
CNN November 14, Dershowitz called the Florida secretary of state
a "crook." He suggested -- falsely -- that she had laundered
money some years back.

Interviewed by TAS the next morning, Dershowitz reiterated his
quite possibly slanderous remarks. "She is bought and paid for by
the Bush campaign. If that's not the definition of a crook I
don't know what is." But Harris's only crime is that she may keep
Gore from "winning" Florida.

The current election results give Bush a 300 vote lead in the
sunshine state. The plain reading of the law -- plus a Florida
judge's decision -- affords Harris wide latitude to certify those
results, without further recounts. Last night, she rejected
requests by four Florida counties for more time to modify their
official results. She is everything we feared, groaned the
non-partisan Geraldo Rivera on CNBC. He meant, of course, that
Harris's decision proved her a partisan hack. Actually, Harris
really is the left's worst nightmare. She is unswayed by their
politics of personal destruction.

Dershowitz's broadside against Harris bordered on character
assassination. Dershowitz, who represents some of the voters who
have filed lawsuits charging voting irregularities in Florida,
declared "She's a crook. She's had all kinds of corruption
allegations about expenditures of money. . . She's not one to
exercise discretion" about which votes should be recounted.
Giving her discretion is "not the American way." There's a new
one -- a Republican called un-American by a liberal.

These comments proved too much for anchor Wolf Blitzer, who
corrected Dershowitz: "We want to point out some of the things
you were saying were allegations." Dershowitz, however, wasn't
about to stop. He mentioned an insurance company's donation to
Harris's 1994 campaign for state senate. "She returned the
$20,000 after it was proven she laundered it. That was proof." It
was?

Yesterday, the New York Times reported what actually happened:

"Ms. Harris accepted more than $20,000 in contributions that
prosecutors later said had been illegally 'bundled' together by
executives of Riscorp, an insurance company based in Florida.
Executives with the company, federal prosecutors charged,
funneled money to Ms. Harris and several other Florida
politicians through their employees, relatives and associates in
order to evade laws limiting the amount of money that companies
can donate to candidates.

"Ms. Harris -- who had pressed for legislation favorable to
Riscorp -- was never charged with any crime. The founder of
Riscorp, William D. Griffin, pleaded guilty to a federal
conspiracy charge and was sentenced to a five-month prison term."

"'In hindsight,' she was quoted as saying by the Sarasota
Herald-Tribune in 1997, 'I wish I had been more aware of how much
money they were giving me.'"

Well, that certainly rings more true than Gore's excuses for the
Buddhist fundraiser.

Dershowitz's key assertion -- that "it was proven" that Harris
had laundered money -- was manifestly false. As Dershowitz and
other defense lawyers endlessly remind us, there's a big
difference between being accused and actually convicted.

Dershowitz also likened Harris -- an elected official -- to a
Republican "functionary." On the "Today Show" this morning, David
Boies, the latest of Al Gore's lawyers to descend upon Florida,
continued on that theme. He asked if "Harris stops the process
now will anyone believe she did it for anything but a partisan
purpose?"

Two can play this game, counselor. If she allows the recounts to
go forward will anyone believe she acted impartially, when it
would certainly appear she had succumbed to the partisan wishes
and high-pressure tactics of Democrats? By what measure is only
Harris's reading of the law tainted by ideology? Are the
Democrats who claim she must allow the recount to continue
impartial? Can only Republicans be biased?

Yes, Harris is a Republican and even campaigned for George W.
Bush. But her obvious sympathies don't necessarily mean her
forthcoming decision about the election is necessarily biased or
otherwise illegitimate. To claim that she is animated by bias
rather than a strict reading of the law is a self-serving assertion
which Democrats have yet to prove.

The real political functionaries here are liberal lawyers, who
have descended upon the Sunshine state to handcraft the election
results.

Dershowitz tells TAS his remarks were entirely justified. "I was
very consciously making a personal attack on her integrity. I see
what's going on in Florida . It's a scam. " He says the
controversy over her prior campaign contributions is relevant
because it speaks to her integrity. But by what logic can he
assert that money laundering allegations against Harris were
proved? "Of course it was proved. She return

MU student recants claim that he voted four times

By JESSICA MCBRIDE and LINDA SPICE

Last Updated: Nov. 15, 2000

A Marquette University freshman who told reporters that he voted
multiple times in the presidential election recanted his comments
Wednesday.

Rob Bosworth, 18, and his attorney, Laura Arbuckle, released a
statement before a news conference saying that the student had
only voted once - for himself. The statement said Bosworth had
"voiced his disappointment with the potential for voter fraud by
overstating his position."

The statement continued that the student, who had told reporters
he had voted four times for himself, "was contacted by members of
the national media and in his zest to voice his frustration
regarding possible voter fraud, he crossed the line by making a
direct statement that he had voted on more than one occasion on
election day. This statement was untrue. His motivation was to
draw attention to the flaws he observed in the election."

Attorneys for the student met Wednesday morning with members of
the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office, which is
investigating election fraud allegations.

The attorney's statement said that Bosworth's motivation was to
"draw attention to the flaws observed in the election process.
Caught up in the emotion of the moment, he did not stop to think
of the ramifications which his statement carried nor the negative
impact the statement had on the state of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
county or Marquette University."

The statement said that Bosworth apologizes to the people of the
state of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Marquette University.

"He terribly regrets his comments," the statement said.

At a 2 p.m. news conference, Bosworth sat quietly next to
Arbuckle.

When reporters pressed on why Bosworth was not delivering his
apology, Arbuckle said she had advised him not to comment
further, partly because of his youth. "It is our position, not
his," she said.

"He only voted once - for himself," Arbuckle said, adding that
Bosworth "cooperated fully" with the district attorney's
investigation.

"They asked for information and we supplied information," she
said.

She said the district attorney had specifically asked for
information regarding friends who accompanied him on election
day.

"It will prove out, once the investigation is done, that he is
telling the truth - this time," Arbuckle said.

Asked whether Bosworth knew of other students who had voted
multiple times on election day, Arbuckle said: "He's not in a
position to comment on other people's actions."

She said that she had met with Bosworth late last night and found
him to be "very concerned with what was going on."

His apology, she said, "is sincere."

Bosworth had told ABC News, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and
other news outlets that he had voted four times at Grand Avenue
Middle School, using his own name each time as a write-in
candidate.

He said he had reported the multiple voting allegations to The
Marquette Tribune, the university's student newspaper, whose
editors subsequently surveyed 1,000 students by phone and in
person. The newspaper said it found 174 students who admitted
voting more than once, according to Michael McGraw, the Tribune's
metro news desk editor.

The paper conducted the survey after state Republicans on Friday
alleged instances of voting irregularities, including claims that
some students at Marquette voted multiple times.

It was shortly after casting his first ballot, Bosworth told the
Journal Sentinel on Monday, that he thought of casting another.
He claimed to have returned about three hours later for the
second ballot and then cast two additional ballots throughout the
day.

He said on Monday that he was asked to write on the registration
card each time his name and address and to provide a signature.
He said he raised his hand to swear he was the person on the card
but said he was not asked for identification or proof of
residency.

Cigarettes case involves 15 to 25

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Nov. 15, 2000

The investigation into the Milwaukee smokes-for-votes allegations
involved at most 25 homeless men, Milwaukee County Deputy
District Attorney Bob Donahoo said Tuesday.

Donahoo said an ongoing investigation has found that 15 to 25
homeless men may have been recruited to cast absentee ballots at
Milwaukee City Hall the Saturday before the election. He said
prosecutors had confirmed they had been staying at the Milwaukee
Rescue Mission.

He said prosecutors would likely decide whether charges would be
filed by the end of the week.

State law makes it a felony to induce someone to vote; providing
anything worth $1 or more as an incentive is illegal.

Connie Milstein, a New York philanthropist and major Democratic
donor, was taped the Saturday before the election saying she was
helping homeless men vote at the behest of the Gore campaign. She
has issued a statement since then saying she acted on her own
without guidance from Democrats or the Gore campaign.

Milstein hired Milwaukee lawyer Steve Glynn to represent her in
the investigation, Donahoo said.

Milstein and Glynn could not be reached Tuesday.

Appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Nov. 15, 2000.

Dangerous question

Two Republican members of the Electoral College from
Colorado have accused ABC News of trying to pressure them into
voting for Democrat Al Gore, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

 ABC News denied the charges.

Mary Hergert, a Colorado elector for George W. Bush, told
the newspaper that she felt intimidated by the caller from ABC.

"Hergert said the caller said he was 'Ed from ABC News' and
asked if she would ever consider voting for Al Gore, then said it
is unconstitutional for her to be bound by state law to follow
Colorado voters' preference for Bush," the newspaper reported.

"It was bothersome," said Miss Hergert, who served as Mr.
Bush's Weld County campaign chairman.

A second Colorado elector, Rob Dieter, also mentioned a call
from ABC News when the Rocky Mountain News asked if anyone had
tried to influence his vote.

ABC News spokeswoman Su-Lin Nichols apologized for any
confusion caused when a group of staffers called electors across
the country with a series of identical questions in preparation
of a possible story on the Electoral College vote.

"We feel they acted professionally," she said.

However, Miss Hergert was not appeased. "I think the
mainstream media has enough to answer for," she said, referring
to the television networks' repeated reversals of results in
Florida.

Dear Carole Schell:

Are you baffled by the lack of technology used in this year's
election?

Hasn't society advanced enough to move beyond coloring arrows and
punching holes? Or are there inherent issues preventing us from
taking a seemingly logical step to computer and Internet voting?

It's the 21st century—should you keep your push pins sharp, or be
brushing up on your touch-screen techniques?

Party affiliation and political leanings put aside, we'd like to
hear what you think about the role of technology in the election
process:

www.techrepublic.com/article.jhtml?id=r00120001113law02.htm

How will the Internet influence voting in the future?

Where will "paperless voting" be 4 years from now?

Security issues are foremost in every company, so how can all
levels of government ensure hacker-proof, virus-free voting?

Is this a project that only the federal government could tackle
with a national CIO-czar?

If you're someone who has already experienced electronic voting
in one of many test areas across the country, share your
insights—good and bad:

[CTRL] NYP: Blacks faced dogs, guns and were required to have three forms of ID

2000-11-17 Thread MICHAEL SPITZER

-Caveat Lector-

"...all over the Panhandle they're being told to go home because
it's all over."

http://www.nypostonline.com/gossip/cindy.htm

A REAL LETDOWN AFTER ELECTION DAY

By DONNA BRAZILE, smart-mouthed lady who was Gore's campaign
manager: "Al Gore won the popular vote. I did my job. I did get
that vote out. Unfortunately, I didn't get to count it."

Said a weary Donna: "Early Election Day I knocked on the vice
president's door. He hugged me and I said, ‘Sir, we have a
tremendous turnout. But people standing in line in Florida are
being told to go home. No need to vote anymore. In fact, all over
the Panhandle they're being told to go home because it's all
over.'

"In disproportionately black areas, people faced dogs, guns and
were required to have three forms of ID. I called the NAACP.
They'd already heard this, and they're now on the case
investigating. I mean, one day before we were ahead in Florida by
three points and we lost? It's like uh-oh, somebody's doing
something they shouldn't."

To her, Election Day was a downer in every way. "My purse had
been stolen. I get off Air Force Two, hit McDonald's for coffee -
no purse. The Democratic National Committee let me use their
phones, so I'm working the phones, getting out the vote and I
have no cash, no ID, no checks, no credit cards, no telephone
numbers.

"I bummed money from Tipper. I also hit up Jesse Jackson for
$100, but he owes me so I didn't mind loaning a few off him. My
bag finally showed up Saturday. It had gotten on Joe Lieberman's
plane."

After two years of 25-hour days, Donna's now unemployed. No
paycheck. No cell phone, beeper or computer. "I handed them all
in. I don't want any GOP investigation a year from now saying,
‘Why'd she still have that stuff seven days after the election?'"

So what's she do now?

"First, I have to ease my staff. I have 100 kids without future
instructions. Some are in Florida, some moved to Nashville and
now have no direction, no money. I'll handle them first. Then I
just need to stay away for a little. Maybe take a few days in the
Virgin Islands. Then take time for me. Clean my apartment.
Unpack. Figure out what to wear.

"Girl, God will provide. Listen, McDonald's is always hiring."

TWO
  WAYS TO STEAL AN ELECTION
As
Al Gore and a battery of more than 500 lawyers work frantically to overturn
the Florida vote tallies and steal the election, the Clinton administration
  is pulling the
same stunt in Bosnia. On November 15, the US informed the United Nations
Security Council that the results of the democratic election held in Bosnia
must be invalidated. The results, you see, were politically incorrect: In
spite of millions of US tax dollars poured into the coffers of the Party
of Independent Social Democrats, led by US-backed prime minister Milorad
Dodik, in the Serb regions of Bosnia the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) won
a plurality, 36.8 percent, to Dodik's 17.9%. "We will continue to urge that
obstructionists be kept out of the government," declared James Cunningham,
deputy US representative to the UN, at a public session of the Council.
Insert "Republicans" for "obstructionists," and Cunningham might well have
been describing Al Gore's perspective on the US elections.

THE
  BOSNIAN MODEL
Cunningham
went on to say that it is "critically important" that the "international
community be prepared to act forcefully to ensure that those who are opposed
to Dayton are not in a position to block the peace accords." Such are the
prerogatives of the occupiers. In the Croatian region of Bosnia, the "legal"
grounds for overturning the election results are what one news report referred

to as "illegal campaign activities" – specifically, illegal campaign posters
that
contained "hate speech." The offending slogan was "Self-Determination
or Extermination," obviously a hate crime in the "multi-cultural" tyranny
of the New Europe. The "electoral commission" of the OSCE recently announced
that 13 members of the nationalist Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) will
not be allowed to take their seats in the Bosnian parliaments. The reason?
"Electoral irregularities" alleged by the OSCE commission. Perhaps the Gore
campaign will invite in a few OSCE observers to Florida, to give them a
few pointers, that is if they haven't already.
SAME
  STRATEGY, DIFFERENT TACTICS
Of
course, in Bosnia, any published or broadcast commentary that casts doubt
on the divine wisdom of the Dayton agreement is classified as "hate speech,"
and therefore illegal. Cunningham went on to say that such evidence of
ideological
criminality "only reinforces our belief that the SDS continues to be controlled
by those who are committed to see Dayton fail." While in Bosnia, the edicts
of Cunningham and his masters in Washington can be carried out at gunpoint,
in Florida, however, the Clintonian Democrats must – for now –
resort to other methods, albeit no less obvious or effective.
TWISTED
  BALLOTS
Meanwhile,
back in Palm Beach, Florida, Carol
  Roberts, the highly
partisan Democrat who sits on the now
all-powerful Board of Canvassers, led what amounted to a campaign rally
as she defiantly announced to a cheering crowd that she would go ahead with
the third counting of the votes. Ignoring advice from the board's own lawyers,
and state election officials, the woman who has been in the vanguard of
  the Democratic coup attempt defiantly
declared: "(By going ahead) what happens? Do we go to jail? Because
I'm willing to go to jail." In a better world, this hatchet-faced hatchet-woman
would indeed wind up behind bars – for election fraud. The Washington
Times reveals that, on inspecting a ballot that would otherwise
have gone to Gore, observer John Grotta heard the old battle-ax exclaim:
"Unfortunately, the corners aren't detached"! But there are ways around
that, and according to the signed affidavits of five observers to Saturday's
hand count, Roberts "twisted the ballots and poked her finger directly in
sections of, and aggressively handled, the ballots."
CAROL
ROBERTS AND THE SPIRIT OF THE AGE
This is the woman to whom we have entrusted the fate of the nation – a ward-healing
partisan Democrat with her hands around the throat of our expiring republic,
  squeezing for all she's w

Free the Blumenthal 25!

We'd almost forgotten about White House aide Sidney Blumenthal's
$30 million libel suit against cybergossip Matt Drudge, filed 3
1/2 years ago after Drudge posted an erroneous rumor that
Blumenthal beat his wife, Jackie. The Bill Clinton loyalist
pursued the case despite Drudge's immediate retraction and
apology, and yesterday we obtained a list of 25 media and
political figures--everyone from Los Angeles-based columnist
Arianna Huffington to Clinton-hating former White House employee
Gary Aldrich to The Post's Howard Kurtz--whom Blumenthal plans to
interrogate.

"It's very annoying," said the Weekly Standard's Tucker Carlson,
whose father, former PBS executive Richard Carlson, is also on
the list. "What irritates me the most is that Sidney is such a
weasel. I just talked to him and asked, 'Is this true?' And he
said, 'There's nothing I can do. It's not appropriate for me to
be talking to you. Call my lawyer.' Sidney really is a worm!"

Blumenthal declined to comment and directed us to his Baltimore
attorney, William McDaniel. "We're under a court directive to
exhaust all reasonable alternatives to deposing Drudge in order
to obtain his sources for this story," McDaniel said, predicting
that the depositions will be finished within two months.
Drudge's Los Angeles lawyer, Manny Klausner, told us: "This has
not originated with us so I think it is better for me to reserve
any comment."

Others on Blumenthal's witness list include Wall Street Journal
editorialist John Fund, think-tank denizen Peter Skerry,
columnist Ann Coulter, lawyer George Conway, magazine writer
Jennet Conant, Arkansas editorialist Paul Greenberg, American
Spectator editor Wlady Pleszczynski, neoconservative ideologist
David Horowitz, conservative humorist Andy Ferguson, Scaife
Foundation executive Richard Larry, Republican operative Nicholas
Thimmesch II and conservative pundit Peter Roff. Yesterday we
got reactions from:

Blumenthal pal David Brock: "I don't know anything about any
subpoena. This is the first time I'm hearing about any of this."

Talking head Barbara Olson: "Somebody once said I was 'ground
zero of the vast right-wing conspiracy,' and I guess Sid believed
it."

Conservative activist Grover Norquist: "I thought we were
friends."

American Enterprise Institute fellow Jim Glassman: "I'm very
happy to be involved in the trial of the century, but I don't
have anything to say."

Boston Phoenix media columnist Dan Kennedy: "I'm extremely
unhappy to be put on his list."

New York Post columnist Braden Keil: "Excellent! I can't wait.
I just hope he can depose me around Thanksgiving so I can go home
to Potomac and write it off."

Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman: "If Mr. Blumenthal
attempts to proceed, it would be harassment, and I would ask for
appropriate court remedies."

Conservative pundit Laura Ingraham: "Even though I have no
knowledge pertinent to this case, I'll be happy to help out. I
just hope the deposition doesn't interfere with my weekly
manicure."

Matt Drudge: "I'm looking for representation for my cat, Cat."
