Once-proud Argentina now has starving babies
49 children dead: Economic crisis spawned by inept governments

It is the final, humiliating blow for a country once known for its café
society and blowout beef barbecues: emaciated children, their limbs
weakened by rickets, starving to death.

These shocking images illuminate the crisis brought on by Argentina's
economic collapse -- the world's fourth-largest exporter of agricultural
products can no longer feed its own children.

So far in Tucuman, a poor northwestern province 1,280 kilometres from
the capital, Buenos Aires, 49 children have starved to death and
hundreds more are being treated for malnutrition. In this region of
sugar-cane plantations and lemon groves, mothers are forced to feed
their children green tea because they cannot afford food or milk.

"This is a tremendous humiliation for Argentines," said Sergio Karas, an
immigration lawyer who immigrated to Toronto from Buenos Aires in
1980.

"To see children go starving runs counter to all the teachings Argentines
have received since childhood about their country being the
breadbasket of the world with the best beef, the best place to live."

Argentina still produces eight times the food needed for its 37 million
people, but corruption and government mismanagement have led to
extreme poverty in the northern provinces. Poor farmers continue to
export the beef and grain that could be eaten at home because they
need foreign capital.

Five non-governmental organizations have filed a lawsuit against Julio
Miranda, the governor of Tucuman, accusing him of "wilful neglect" of the
children who have died of malnutrition in his province. They also claim
he misappropriated federal funds intended for social programs.

Although there are signs Argentina's economy is finally beginning to
recover -- inflation is in check and unemployment is falling -- the
effects of the dramatic default and currency devaluation a year ago are
still being felt.

Food prices have risen by more than 30% and employment is 70% in
rural northern areas. According to the Argentine Centre of Studies on
Children's Nutrition, one in five Argentine children is malnourished, and
the infant mortality rate has risen in some areas to 30 per 1,000 born
alive, nine times the national average.

Before Christmas, the government defaulted again on its World Bank
loans, cutting off its last credit lifeline and putting it on a fiscal rank with
such financial disasters as Sudan and Belarus.

The interim government of Eduardo Duhalde, a Peronist who took office
after riots a year ago, finally worked out a new loan program this week
with the International Monetary Fund.

The recent reports of children suffering from intestinal parasites and
severely underweight toddlers dying in hospitals have caused a national
sensation. Such widespread poverty is typical in most of Latin America,
but in Argentina, it is tangible proof the country has finally lost its special
"European" status.

"I think there has been a real consciousness-raising," said Hernan
Cappeallo, a Buenos Aires journalist. "These images have mobilized the
people."

A once-proud nation, in the 1930s Argentina had a standard of living
comparable to Canada's. Argentines revelled in late-night
philosophizing, opera and fine dining. Today, they are not discussing
poetry, but how to feed the poor.

Soup kitchens have sprung up everywhere.

Operation Rescue was launched recently to save malnourished children
from death, and expatriates are organizing similar fundraising events
around the world. The government recently announced it will form a
social safety network to track and assist families living in extreme
poverty.

Observers say the roots of the crisis were sown in years of economic
mismanagement by successive civilian and military governments.
General Juan Peron, who ruled from 1946 to 1955 and again in the
1970s, created a bloated welfare state the nation could not afford.

In 1982, a beleaguered military government made the disastrous
decision to invade the Falklands Islands, involving itself in a conflict it
could neither afford nor win. The government fell, leading to a period of
international borrowing and runaway spending.

Hyperinflation was finally tamed in the early 1990s, when the currency
was pegged to the U.S. dollar, but the government failed to service a
huge debt. By the time the peg was dropped last year, the peso had
lost 70% of its value.

Others blame the country's collapse on the 1976-83 "Dirty War," when
30,000 intellectuals and potential future leaders disappeared,
presumed killed by the government.

Judith Teichman, a political science professor at the University of
Toronto, said economic growth has begun again in Argentina, but that is
not saying mu

Cayman trial falls apart over MI6 link
>From James Doran in New York

THE leader of the Cayman Islands’ Government accused Britain
last night of conducting a “cold war” against the dependent territory after
the collapse of a routine money-laundering trial revealed allegations of
espionage, wire taps and obstruction of justice by alleged MI6 agents.

The bizarre case has revealed that an unnamed agent of the British
Government — described in court documents as “John Doe” — has been
receiving secret information about companies and banks that are based
on Cayman from one of the island’s top anti-money- laundering
officials.

It is understood that operations by the secret UK government agency on
tax havens such as Cayman have stepped up since money-laundering
laws were tightened as part of the War on Terror.

The transcript of the Cayman court case, which reads like the pages of a
Graham Greene novel, is now being used to try to force David
Ballantyne, the islands’ Attorney-General, to resign, along with the whole
of the islands’ financial services unit.

McKeever Bush, leader of the Cayman Islands’ Government and Father
of the House of its legislature, said: “The secret intelligence service of
the UK has interfered with the course of justice on Cayman. How can the
UK Government conduct this kind of cold war, this espionage against
Cayman? We are an overseas dependent territory.”

He added that the alleged spying and the collapse of an important
money-laundering trial could cost Cayman dearly. “We are vehemently
opposed to money-laundering,” Mr Bush said. “The UK Government
must pay for what it has done. It must pay for the trial and it must pay
for the fallout this will cause.”

It is feared that companies will stay away from Cayman now it is known
that they are being watched by government agencies, thus depriving the
island of its main income.

Anthony Smellie, the Chief Justice of Cayman, threw out a long- running
money-laundering case against Euro Bank, a company that operates on
the tax haven, on January 14 after allegations that Brian Gibbs, a senior
anti-fraud officer, had passed information about the case to an
unnamed agency of the UK Government, understood to be MI6.

Mr Gibbs, a former UK police officer, was director of the Cayman Islands
Financial Reporting Unit and, as such, responsible for upholding financial
law on the territory and preventing money- laundering. He had been set
to appear as a witness in the case as he was said to have an informant
within Euro Bank who blew the whistle on an alleged money-laundering
scam.

During the trial, it was revealed that Mr Gibbs had been sending details
about the whistleblower to John Doe.

Chief Justice Smellie claimed in his 20-plus page judgment that Mr
Gibbs had been ordered by John Doe to destroy much of the evidence
submitted by the whistleblower because it could reveal the identity of
other so-called “agents of the UK government agency”. The Chief Justice
also said that Mr Gibbs had been accused of trying to bug the
telephones of the Cayman Island’s judiciary as part of his work for the
UK government agency.

“Gibbs has since testified,” Chief Justice Smellie wrote in documents
obtained by The Times, “that he destroyed evidence on the instructions
of a controlling agent of the UKG.”

Mr Gibbs, who is thought to have fled the island, denies any involvement
in the plan to interfere with the judiciary’s telephone system.

Iraqi Wild Card
Tribal Loyalties Hard to Predict

By Rajiv Chandrasekaran
Washington Post Foreign Service
Sunday, January 19, 2003; Page A01

RASHIDIYA, Iraq -- The sheik gazed left, then right, looking at a half-dozen
farmers in mud- speckled robes seated in his vast receiving room. Supplicant in
posture and effusive in flattery, they drank several cups of sweet tea before a
young man named Mohammed summoned the courage to ask the question that
had brought them to their leader at dinnertime. Was their tribe, the Fudhool,
ready for a U.S. attack?

The sheik, Fadhil Abbas Jassim, 69, with a gravelly voice and a gray-speckled
beard, smiled. Then he chortled, causing his gold-fringed cloak to flap about.
The Fudhool recently received a few thousand automatic rifles from the
government, he informed the farmers, and more were on the way. The guns
would be handed out soon. Everyone would be armed.

After the farmers departed into the balmy night, appearing reassured, Jassim
turned to a visitor. "If there is a war, they will fight on my command," he
proclaimed. "They will defend our land against foreign aggression." He added
after a moment's pause, "But if there is a need for peace, of course they will
listen to me."

As Bush administration officials and U.S. military commanders try to predict how
Iraqis would react to a possible U.S. invasion aimed at toppling President
Saddam Hussein, the behavior of the country's armed and influential tribes has
emerged as a wild card. The vast majority of Iraq's 24 million people affiliate
themselves with tribal groups, and sociologists here estimate that more than a
third retain some degree of loyalty to their tribal leaders.

Will the tribal leaders stick by Hussein, who has wooed them since the end of
the 1991 Persian Gulf War by doling out cash, land and cars, as well as
increased authority in rural Iraq? Or will they welcome the Americans and help
them fight the Iraqi army? Or will they sit out the fighting, despite their bellicose
rhetoric, out of fear of choosing the wrong side?

Several prominent sheiks insisted their allegiance is firmly with Hussein, a man
they referred to as "his excellency," "our dear leader" and "the great president."
If there is a war, they said they would mobilize hundreds of thousands of
fighters, from schoolboys to old men ineligible to join the military, to defend their
villages and the roads leading to Baghdad.

"We will fight to the death against any invaders," said Rashash Imarrah, chief of
the Imarrah tribe, most of whose members live near the intersection of the Tigris
and Euphrates rivers in southern Iraq. "If the Americans think they can just
march up here, they are sadly mistaken," said the sheik, who claims to
command 4,000 armed fighters. "We will be waiting for them."

Past Invaders

The last time a foreign army sought to capture Baghdad, during World War I,
British forces moved up the Tigris from the Persian Gulf to expel the Ottoman
Turks who controlled most of present-day Iraq. Expecting the tribes to help fight
the Ottomans, or at least remain neutral, the British instead found themselves
under attack by several tribes that remained loyal to the Turks.

As people here are fond of mentioning, tens of thousands of British soldiers
died, many from disease, before Baghdad finally fell in 1917. "The Americans,"
Imarrah said, "should remember this."

Nobody knows for sure when tribes such as the Imarrah were formed, but
historians and tribal leaders say many of the groups predate the start of Islam on
the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century. The tribes thrived for centuries,
providing order and community in an otherwise lawless desert. Sheiks settled
disputes, dispensed charity and approved marriages.

But in 1958, when Iraq's British-installed monarchy was overthrown, the new
military government set out to eliminate tribal networks, regarding sheiks as little
kings who considered themselves above the law. When the Baath Party, the
political machine through which Hussein rose to power, took over in 1968, that
effort intensified. And when Hussein assumed the presidency in 1979, it
accelerated further: Sheiks who represented a threat to his hold on power were
killed or jailed. Tens of thousands of people from tribal areas were forced to
migrate to cities.

The Baathists, whose ideology called for a secular, modern Arab nation,
"regarded the tribal system as a backward system that did not fit in wit

Controversial 'lightning' weapon could cripple Iraqi war machine

JACQUI GODDARD

AMERICA has developed a new weapon capable of crippling Saddam Hussein’s
war machine by unleashing

powerful man-made lightning strikes.

Known as the HPM - High Powered Microwave - it has been created under a
top-secret Pentagon programme aimed at revolutionising the US military’s
warfare techniques, Time magazine reports.

HPMs are artificial lightning bolts packed inside cruise missiles, with the
potential to deliver as much electricity in a single flash as the Hoover Dam
generates in one day - more than two billion watts.

As it homes in on its target, the missile discharges an energy pulse that moves
at the speed of light, destroying all electronic gadgetry and computer equipment
within 1,000ft of the ultimate flash by blowing out circuits and memory chips. The
effect is similar to that of a lightning strike on a household television or
computer, which can be burned out by a storm-wave of electricity surging in
through the wiring.

As America prepares to lead a war against Iraq, senior military officials have
hinted that they have a new weapon at their disposal, triggering speculation that
HPMs are now in production. Details of their development at Kirtland Air Force
Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, have been kept under tight wraps. The
electro- magnetic pulses can travel deep into caves, buried bunkers, plumbing
systems and ventilation shafts.

The so-called energy bombs or "e-bombs" could be of great value in
incapacitating Saddam Hussein’s military communications. But there is concern
that they may also wreak devastating collateral damage, as they can also affect
life support systems in hospitals and heart pacemakers.

"Like blinding lasers, like anti-personnel mines, like cluster bombs, there are
weapons out there which are on the edge of whether or not they cause
unnecessary suffering or are indiscriminate or fail to comply with our obligations
under international humanitarian law," said William Arkin, military advisor to the
organisation Human Rights Watch.

Israeli plan to weaken Egypt
By Hassan Tahsin
Published on 20 January 2003

Many people believe that the Camp David accords ended the confrontation
between Egypt and
Israel forever. The reality of the situation though is that the war is continuing but
in the form of a Cold War between the US and then Soviet Union.

Egypt viewed the peace treaty as a civilized way of ending military confrontation
and for the return of Egyptian land occupied by Israel without the need for any
more bloodshed.

On the other hand, Israel views the treaty as an effective means of marginalizing
Egypt’s role in the Arab-Israeli conflict. The treaty also gives Israel the right to
impose a geographical siege of Egypt by influencing the political systems of the
African countries especially those that lie in the Great Lakes area. This would
eventually enable Israel to control the sources of the Nile River and to pressure
Egypt into delivering water from the Nile to Israel through the Suez Canal.

However Egypt’s considerable political weight and history has dashed the first
hope. But Israel, by taking advantage of political turmoil and border conflicts
between African nations has managed to infiltrate some African countries and
besiege Egypt from the south.

History shows the Zionist ideology was never averse to using Africa and its
natural wealth aside from the idea of blockading the Arab countries, especially
Sudan, Egypt and Libya, from the south. Egypt is considered the principal
enemy of the Jewish state.

The general view is that Israeli ambitions began in the 1950s, but the Zionist
greed was there even before the establishment of the Jewish state on occupied
Palestinian land.

In 1893 four years before the first Zionist Conference in Basel, Switzerland,
Theodore Hertzel, the father of Zionism, wrote: “In view of the history of the
Jews in various parts of the earth and of the blacks in Africa, we can observe a
number of shared experiences, especially as it relates to the hardships both
have suffered throughout history which means that the two may share some
common interests.”

No one stopped to ponder the deeper meaning of what Hertzel said. Two years
later leaders of the Zionist movement suggested that Uganda be the national
home of the Jews. Britain, Uganda’s colonial master at the time, refused. Was
this refusal solely based on Great Britain’s wish not to surrender one of its
colonies? Or where there other reasons?

The events that followed showed that there were other more important reasons.
Britain, which ruled the world at that time, saw that it was important to place a
political roadblock between the Arab countries in the Middle East, especially
between Egypt on the one hand and Lebanon, Syria and Jordan on the other.
History had taught them that Egypt’s power always spreads to the east uniting
with those countries and that Egypt’s power is what prevented the European
Crusaders from retaining Palestine. So they chose the Jews, known for their
deep enmity toward Islam and toward Egypt.

This was the first stage of the blockade of Egypt; after handing over Palestine to
the Zionists, UK supported this new entity until it became a powerful roadblock
between Egypt and the Arab Middle East. France also contributed its support
followed by the United States which further entrenched this Zionist entity. Once
this was done, Israel undertook the second part in the blockade of Egypt by
infiltrating Africa. Israel went straight into the heart of Africa in slow consecutive
steps beginning in the fifties and reaching a peak in the end of the seventies of
the last century.

Israel set up cooperation agreements with twenty African countries, especially in
the military field. Israel also had a long history of relations with South Africa
when that country was a European colony going as far as collaborating in the
nuclear field. It also courted Ethiopia paving the way for the transfer of Falasha
Jews from Ethiopia to Israel as well as water projects in order to gain control of
three of the Nile’s most important tributaries.

In the last few years Israel has sought to use its friendship with Eritrea to
establish military bases on some of the islands at the southern entrance to the
Red Sea.

The ultimate aim is to tighten its siege on the source of the Nile River and further
weaken Egypt. This as well as the plans to create friction between Egypt and
African states and divide Sudan all form part of an Israeli and American plan to
break up the Arab countries to ensure Israel’s hegemony in the region.

Venezuela “strike”: the anatomy of a US-backed provocation

By Patrick Martin
20 January 2003

Back to screen version| Send this link by email | Email the author

Leaders of the right-wing umbrella group seeking to overthrow Venezuelan
president Hugo Chavez have dropped their demand that Chavez resign
immediately as a condition for calling off the business shutdown that has
dragged on for more than six weeks.

Representatives of the Democratic Coordinator also suggested that doctors,
restaurant owners and other small businessmen were free to end their
participation in the so-called general strike that began on December 2. Rafael
Alfonzo, a leader of Fedecamaras, the Venezuelan chamber of commerce, said
that many businesses were faced with bankruptcy if they remained closed. “We
feel that the right decision is not one that kills the private sector,” he said. The
question of whether to reopen is “pretty much at the individual level now.”

The sporadic lockouts by employers supporting the anti-Chavez campaign have
had relatively little impact on the Venezuelan economy. Far more significant is
the shutdown of the oil industry by executives and managers of PDVSA, the
state-owned company that accounts for most of Venezuela’s exports and half of
total government revenue.

PDVSA officials, most of them appointed by previous right-wing governments
and hostile to Chavez, had the support of the union representing white-collar
workers and lower-level management. Many blue-collar workers remained on
the job and expressed opposition to the shutdown.

The Chavez government succeeded in restarting oil production on a limited
basis despite the sabotage at the top, as lower-level workers began to replace
their bosses at the helm of two of the country’s three main refineries. Production
has reached the level of 400,000 barrels per day, enough to meet the country’s
domestic needs, although not enough to resume export shipments on any
serious scale. These efforts have been supplemented by stopgap shipments of
petroleum from Brazil, Russia and other countries opposed to the US-backed
campaign to oust the Venezuelan president.

The real class divisions in the oil “strike” were clearly revealed in an account
published in the New York Times December 29; one of the few honest pieces of
reporting on events in Venezuela to appear in the North American press. Times
reporter Ginger Thompson visited the PDVSA refinery at Puerto La Cruz and
wrote:

“Nearly a month into Venezuela’s devastating national strike, all systems were
back up and running close to normal this week at the refinery here that supplies
gasoline to the eastern half of this country. Night shift workers were bursting with
the pride of war heroes.

“Félix Deliso, who has worked at Petróleos de Venezuela, the state-owned oil
company, for 12 years, stood watch over a console with so many blinking
buttons and computer screens that it looked like the bridge of a spaceship. Mr.
Deliso monitors 3,000 machines and processes that turn crude oil into gasoline.
Though he has a high school education, he has been trained to be a specialist
here, and he considers his job as delicate as disarming a live bomb.

“With skeleton crews working lots of overtime, Mr. Chavez is getting gasoline
trickling back into Venezuela’s pumps. Officials here said that since the
beginning of last week, this refinery had produced 60,000 barrels of gasoline a
day, about 70 percent its normal capacity and almost a fourth of the 225,000
barrels normally consumed by this country each day

“The refinery here at balmy Puerto La Cruz has become a showcase of the
government’s comeback. Almost all high-level executives at the plant joined the
strike. But officials said fewer than 20 percent of the operators, mechanics and
technicians walked off the job. ‘We are prouder now than ever,’ said Wilfredo
Bastardo, a 17-year oil veteran. ‘We have shown our supervisors that we can
run this plant without them’”.

Chavez has dismissed 1,000 employees of PDVSA, most of them middle- and
high-level. He suggested that the company will be broken up into two divisions in
order to shake up the entrenched management, which has long used the
company as a slush fund for Venezuela’s ruling elite distributing billions in
kickbacks and sweetheart deals.

The resumption of oil refining and the failure of the “general strike” to spread
beyond the largely upper class neighborhoods on the east side of Caracas made
it possible for Chavez to leave the country without immediate danger of a coup.
He traveled to Brasilia for the inauguration on January 2 of Brazil’s new
president, Luis Inacio “Lula” da Silva, where he denounced the right-wing
campaign as a “coup attempt disguised as a strike,” organized by “terrorists who
are blocking oil and food distribution and sabotaging refineries.”

percent to toast in barely a year," said William Schneider, a political scientist at
the American Enterprise Institute. "Right now I'd call this drop a decline — not
yet a collapse."

Fifty-five percent of those surveyed by Gallup said Bush was not spending
enough time on the economy, which remains afflicted with the worst
unemployment in almost nine years, a three-year stock market decline that has
cost stockholders almost $6 trillion, and economic growth of barely 1.5 percent
over the last seven quarters.

Only 36 percent of respondents said they would "definitely vote" for Bush in
2004.

"Bush is suffering a rapid decline, just like his father," says James Thurber, a
presidential scholar at American University. "With high unemployment, a low
stock market hitting the middle class, a controversial economic stimulus
package and anxiety about the war in Iraq — no wonder his approval rating has
dropped."

Bruce Buchanan, a presidential scholar at the University of Texas at Austin,
says Americans are taking a second look at controversies over Bush's domestic
proposals, now that fears of terrorist attacks have diminished.

Bush's job approval ratings have continued to slip since the historic GOP gains
in the House and Senate in the midterm congressional election in November.

Buchanan cited Bush's economic stimulus package and his resubmission of
controversial judicial nominations to the Senate. He also said Bush and the GOP
suffered because of the controversy over remarks by Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss.,
endorsing the 1948 Dixiecrat segregationist presidential campaign of retiring
Sen. Storm Thurmond, R-S.C.

Bush helped orchestrate Lott's resignation as incoming Senate majority leader.

Only 12 percent in the Gallup survey said Bush's plan would make a big
difference in their family finances.

Bush's popularity also suffers because of uncertainty over Iraq. The percentage
of Americans who consider Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein a threat has slipped
from 65 percent to 56 percent, according to the latest Gallup survey.

Support for an attack on Iraq remains highly conditional, according to a survey
by Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.

Seventy-six percent of respondents said they favored using military force if U.N.
inspectors found Iraq hiding weapons of mass destruction. But only 46 percent
want force if inspectors find Iraq hiding "the ability to easily make weapons."

Iraq's failure to prove the absence of weapons of mass destruction — the
cornerstone of Bush's demands — warranted the use of force for only 29
percent of those asked.

Antiwar sentiments have started to surface, as well. The Pew survey found 53
percent of respondents believed Bush had not clearly explained the rationale for
using U.S. military forces to oust Saddam — up from 37 percent who expressed
that sentiment in September.

In a Newsweek poll released Saturday, 60 percent said they would prefer the
Bush administration allow more time to find an alternative to war, according to
the Associated Press.

Support for a military option would be strong, 81 percent, if the United States
were to act with full allied support and the backing of the U.N. Security Council.
A majority would be opposed should this country act without the support of the
United Nations and had no more than one or two allies.

The president's job approval was at 56 percent in the Newsweek poll and 53
percent in a CNN- Time poll released over the weekend. His approval rate was
in the 60s in both polls in November.

According to the CNN-Time poll, the decline comes as a result of sligh

Drugs and forgery 'sustain North Korean economy'
Matthew Engel in Washington
Sunday January 19 2003
The Observer

The threat from North Korea may be more insidious than the mere possibility of a
nuclear attack, it was claimed yesterday. The regime is shoring up what remains of its
economy by racketeering, according to US officials quoted in the magazine US News and
World Report.

They believe North Korea is producing 40 tonnes of opium a year, huge quantities of
high-quality amphetamines and millions of dollars worth of "supernotes" - beautifully
made counterfeit $100 bills.

The magazine says the US has seen videotape of Kim Jong-nam, the son of the dictator
Kim Jong-il, using the fake notes at a casino in Macao.

The officials say these may be worth almost as much as the legitimate North Korean
trade: about $500m a year compared with $650m in official exports.

Some say the corruption is leading to a culture of bribery and a loosening of the
regime's hold. "The key here is lack of government control," one told the magazine.
"Criminal activity may bring about the disintegration of this regime."

The report coincides with another round of intense diplomacy. Although a Russian envoy
was still in Pyongyang and a special UN envoy had just left, the official news agency
was putting out apparently unyielding statements, including a rare comment from Kim
Jong-il himself.

"No force on earth can break the inexhaustible strength and indomitable will of this
great army and people," he was quoted as saying.

More specifically, his first vice foreign minister, Kang Sok-ju, called for
face-to-face talks with the US: an approach Washington rejects.

"The internationalisation of this issue would make the prospect of its settlement more
complicated and gloomy," he said.

But at a diplomatic reception he welcomed the Russian envoy, Alexander Losyukov, and
praised the Russians' good will. Mr Losyukov described their talks so far as "useful".

In an interview with South Korean TV the American ambassador to Seoul, Glenn Hubbard,
gave a further hint that the US may offer the North a deal.

"If they satisfy our concerns about the nuclear programmes, we are prepared to
consider a broad approach," he said. "That would entail, in the final analysis, some
economic cooperation, perhaps in the power field."

US offers immunity to Saddam
Rumsfeld and Powell back exile plan
Richard Norton-Taylor and Helena Smith in Larnaca
Sunday January 19 2003
The Observer

The United States last night offered Saddam Hussein immunity from prosecution if his
departure from Baghdad would avert war.

With only seven days to go before weapons inspectors deliver their crucial report to
the UN security council, Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary and one of the Bush
administration's leading hawks, dangled the prospect of a peaceful way out, despite
the massive military build-up.

"If to avoid a war," Mr Rumsfeld said in a TV interview, "I would ... recommend that
some provision be made so that the senior leadership in that country [Iraq] and their
families could be provided haven in some other country."

Hours later, in what appeared to be a series of choreographed interviews, his more
doveish rival in the US administration, Colin Powell, backed his remarks. Asked about
a reported Saudi initiative to grant amnesty to senior Iraqi leaders, he said: "I
would encourage Saddam Hussein, if he is getting any messages of this kind, to listen."

The hints from Washington added weight to an Arab initiative, backed by Saudi Arabia
and others, that would urge the Iraqi leader to go into exile.

Even if the US granted President Saddam immunity from prosecution, the viability of
the Arab plan would depend on his willingness to give up power, something many believe
he would never contemplate. Allowing the Iraqi leader to avoid a trial for alleged war
crimes might also prove controversial. In London, the Foreign Office maintained its
view that the main issue was disarming Iraq rather than removing President Saddam.

"The key issue is for Iraq to comply with its international obligations whatever group
of people forms its leadership," a spokeswoman said.

Hans Blix, the chief UN weapons inspector, last night began high-level meetings in
Baghdad, saying: "We do not think that war is inevitable. We think that the inspection
process that we are conducting is the peaceful alternative."

Mr Rumsfeld piled the pressure on the Iraqi regime by saying that Washington would
know "in a matter of weeks, not in months or years" whether Iraq was "cooperating
fully with the inspectors".

His comment contrasted with remarks by Mohammed El Baradei, head of the International
Atomic Energy Authority, who told the Guardian that UN monitors needed "a few more
months".

Mr El Baradei and Mr Blix have to report back to the UN by January 27, a deadline
imposed by a security council resolution but whose significance is disputed by its
five permanent members.

Last night they had talks with President Saddam's scientific adviser, Amir al-Saadi,
and General Hussam Mohammad Amin, head of Iraq's national monitoring directorate.

"We are having good, constructive meetings," Mr El Baradei told reporters. "I think
[the Iraqis] have said that there are still certain areas where they are ready
to provide more information," he added. "I think that in other areas they said they
are ready to reconsider their position."

However, faced with mounting pressure from the US and Britain to come up with hard
evidence to prove President Saddam has been lying about nuclear, chemical and
biological weapons, Mr Blix insisted: "It requires comprehensive inspections and it
requires a very active Iraqi cooperation."

He earlier accused the Iraqi authorities of playing "a cheap game of chess". He was
speaking after being forced to cancel inspections in northern Iraq's "no-fly" zone.
The Iraqis insisted that UN helicopters had to be escorted by Iraqi ones.

Mr Blix played down the significance of the discovery of 3,000 documents in the home
of an Iraqi physicist, Faleh Hassan, last week. The papers, found after a tip-off by
western intelligence, were "not evidence of a weapon of mass destruction and are all
pre-1990", Mr Blix said. "We know very well they have dealt [in the past] with
laser enrichment."

Gary Samore, a former proliferation expert at the US national security council, said
that using laser technology to separate isotopes to enrich uranium was "very very
demanding" and no country had produced it in that way.

Mr Blix said he had no doubt Tony Blair would like to have a peaceful solution through
inspections, adding that the prime minister had refused to "commit himself" during
talks on Friday to a timetable regarding the monitoring.

[CTRL] Myths of Martin Luther King

[Title 17 U.S.C. section 107]

Myths of Martin Luther King
by Marcus Epstein

There is probably no greater sacred cow in
America than Martin Luther King Jr. The slightest
criticism of him or even suggesting that he isn’t
deserving of a national holiday leads to the usual
accusations of racist, fascism, and the rest of the
usual left-wing epithets not only from liberals, but
also from many ostensible conservatives and
libertarians.

This is amazing because during the 50s and 60s, the
Right almost unanimously opposed the civil rights
movement. Contrary to the claims of many neocons,
the opposition was not limited to the John Birch
Society and southern conservatives. It was made by
politicians like Ronald Reagan and Barry
Goldwater, and in the pages of Modern Age,
Human Events, National Review, and the Freeman.

Today, the official conservative and libertarian
movement portrays King as someone on our side
who would be fighting Jesse Jackson and Al
Sharpton if he were alive. Most all conservative
publications and websites have articles around this
time of the year praising King and discussing how
today’s civil rights leaders are betraying his legacy.
Jim Powell’s otherwise excellent The Triumph of
Liberty rates King next to Ludwig von Mises and
Albert J. Nock as a libertarian hero. Attend any IHS
seminar, and you’ll read "A letter from a
Birmingham Jail" as a great piece of anti-statist
wisdom. The Heritage Foundation regularly has
lectures and symposiums honoring his legacy. There
are nearly a half dozen neocon and left-libertarian
think tanks and legal foundations with names such
as "The Center for Equal Opportunity" and the
"American Civil Rights Institute" which claim to
model themselves after King.

Why is a man once reviled by the Right now
celebrated by it as a hero? The answer partly lies in
the fact that the mainstream Right has gradually
moved to the left since King’s death. The influx of
many neoconservative intellectuals, many of whom
were involved in the civil rights movement, into the
conservative movement also contributes to the King
phenomenon. This does not fully explain the picture,
because on many issues King was far to the left of
even the neoconservatives, and many King admirers
even claim to adhere to principles like freedom of
association and federalism. The main reason is that
they have created a mythical Martin Luther King Jr.,
that they constructed solely from one line in his "I
Have a Dream" speech.

In this article, I will try to dispel the major myths
that the conservative movement has about King. I
found a good deal of the information for this piece
in I May Not Get There With You: The True
Martin Luther King by black leftist Michael Eric
Dyson. Dyson shows that King supported black
power, reparations, affirmative action, and
socialism. He believes this made King even more
admirable. He also deals frankly with King’s
philandering and plagiarism, though he excuses
them. If you don’t mind reading his long discussions
about gangsta rap and the like, I strongly
recommend this book.

Myth #1: King wanted only equal rights, not
special privileges and would have opposed
affirmative action, quotas, reparations, and the
other policies pursued by today’s civil rights
leadership.

This is probably the most repeated myth about King.
Writing on National Review Online, There Heritage
Foundation’s Matthew Spalding wrote a piece
entitled "Martin Luther King’s Conservative Mind,"
where he wrote, "An agenda that advocates quotas,
counting by race and set-asides takes us away from
King's vision."

The problem with this view is that King openly
advocated quotas and racial set-asides. He wrote
that the "Negro today is not struggling for some
abstract, vague rights, but for concrete improvement
in his way of life." When equal opportunity laws
failed to achieve this, King looked for other ways.
In his book Where Do We Go From Here, he
suggested that "A society that has done something
special against the Negro for hundreds of years
must now do something special for him, to equip
him to compete on a just and equal basis." To do
this he expressed support for quotas. In a 1968
Playboy interview, he said, "If a city has a 30%
Negro population, then it is logical to assume that
Negroes should have at least 30% of the jobs in any
particular company, and jobs in all categories
rather than only in menial areas." King was more
than just talk in this regard. Working through his
Operation Breadbasket, King threatened boycotts of
businesses that did not hire blacks in proportion to
their population.

King was even an early proponent of reparations. In
his 1964 book, Why We Can’t Wait, he wrote,

No amount of gold could provide an adequate
compensation for the exploitation and
humiliation of the Negro in America down
through the centuries…Yet a price can be
placed on unpaid wages. The ancient common
law has always provided a remedy for the

Perception often trumps reality.

The original term 'liberal' referred to those who believed in
the free market and limited government while 'conservatives'
favored a nonaligned Republic - not an Empire.

Today so called liberals call for a state managed economy with an
intrusive government while so called conservatives call for corporate
welfare and a Imperial Empire.

Some choice!

These Aleister Crowley people also believe that YHWH = YAHWEH = JEHOVAH
is a "powerful demon that Moses conjured up but could not control".

What the original movie the Mummy and see all the anti-Semite messages
and subliminal persuasion to make it look like the "mummy" got its power
from YHWH = YAHWEH = JEHOVAH to make it look like JEHOVAH God was Satan
when in reality it is the god they follow is Satan.

I watch Arnold Swarzenigger (sic) on Entertainment Tonight promoting the
movie "Armageddon" saying; "Armageddon may come! Satan may return!".

It is JEHOVAH God and JESUS Christ who return at Armageddon to bring
judgment on this wicked world. Satan is already here causing misery and
suffering to mankind. Arnold Swarzenigger was calling JEHOVAH God and
His Son JESUS Christ, Satan!!!

This is just the beginning. Hollywood is run by these occultists.

[CTRL] Jack-Booted Thugs Run Amok

2003-01-19 Thread iNFoWaRZ
-Caveat Lector-

These unconstitutional federal cops and judges are un-American traitors and pathetic
criminal thugs.
Spare me the line that "oh, it's just a few bad apples, most of them are good". Bovine
Scatology.
They are corrupt and lawless from the top to the bottom.
These people aren't qualified to be dog catchers much less judges and cops.
When will America wake up and put these criminals on trial in state courts?

PRESS RELEASE

Austin man receives death threats from U.S. Marshals

AUSTIN, TEXAS: Friday, January 17, 2003, Rhett Webster Pease, left the driveway
of his home on his way to work. He backed out, turned left down a street which
intersects the street where he lives about 20 feet from his driveway. Immediately a
Chevy F10 pickup driving in the opposite direction drove directly towards him. His
first thought was it was a drunk driver. The driver of the pickup was dressed in a
plaid flannel lumberjack shirt, and Pease soon realized when the driver did not veer
away, that he was the target of the man, and was about to be rammed. Pease put his
truck in reverse, backed across the street and parked in his driveway. At this point
he was surrounded by men who wore jackets which bore the word "POLICE' on the
jackets. The men all had guns drawn and pointed at Pease. Pease was told to step out
of the truck with his hands up. Pease turned off his truck, turned off the lights, put
his hands up and stepped from the truck. One of the men immedia
 tely
grabbed him by the shirtfront and pulled, evidently trying to pull Pease to the
ground. Instead, Pease's shirt tore, which resulted in a torn shirt and Pease still
standing. At this point, Pease was tackled, thrown to the ground and dragged to the
sidewalk. There, Pease was grabbed by the hair and his chin slammed into the
concrete. One of the men put his booted foot on Pease's head, two more sat on his
back. Marshal Jack Dean, evidently the leader of the group, grabbed a cell phone from
Pease's hand, and when Dean realized it was a cell phone, not a weapon, Dean kicked
the phone down the sidewalk, where it flew into pieces. As the other marshals were
handcuffing Pease and placing him in leg irons, Dean kept shouting, "Shoot him, shoot
him!" A young grade school child stood directly in Dean's line of fire, and she ran
into the street in terror. It was Pease's observation that most of the marshals were
very cold, it was a cold morning, and evidentially, they had bee
 n hid
ing behind bushes and trees, exposed to the elements, for quite some time. Pease was
thrown into a car and taken to the holding cell in the Federal Court Building, where
he was taken before Federal District Judge Sam Sparks. Pease's crime?Pease had not
appeared, as ordered, before Judge Sparks the day before on a civil matter. Pease
was, at the time, in a medical emergency clinic and could not attend the hearing.
Although Judge Sparks was aware of Pease's plight, he issued an order, not an arrest
warrant as prescribed the U.S. Constitution, to have Pease brought before him. When
told Pease had a medical emergency, Judge Sparks replied, "I don't care." While
waiting in the holding cell, Pease overheard marshals saying that if they had to go to
Pease's property again, they would shoot him and be done with it. When Pease was led
from the holding cell by Marshal Jack Dean, Dean said to him, "I should have shot you
this morning when I had the chance. Then this would be
 ended
." Pease was ordered by Judge Sparks to vacate his house by Wednesday, January 23rd,
although due process has not run its course concerning an wrongful foreclosure and in
the absence of a Writ of Assistance which is the order for him to vacate. Pease has
two choices, either voluntarily give up possession of his home, without benefit of
lawful process, as ordered by Judge Sparks, or be shot by U. S. Marshals when they
return to seize possession of his home. Will 12600 Limerick Avenue be the next Waco?
Will Pease, his wife or one of his three children suffer the same fate as Randy
Weaver's family? Where does this end? Dessie Maria Andrews, field reporter for

[CTRL] Criticizing The President During A Time Of War

-Caveat Lector-

Criticizing The President During A Time Of War
By Devvy Kidd
January 11, 2002
NewsWithViews.com

I received a love letter the other day informing me the sender was going to press the
Department of Justice to charge me with sedition for criticizing the President of the
united States ‘during a time of war.' Lock me up and throw away the key!

Sedition or a matter of law?

Is one guilty of sedition for criticizing the President, who also acts as
Commander-in-Chief during a time of war?

First one must deal with the question: Did Congress fulfill its constitutional
responsibility to make an official declaration of war against Iraq as mandated under
Art. 1, Sec. 8 of the supreme law of the land? No, why should they? With the exception
of Ron Paul and a few grandstanding Democrats, the rest of that bunch have no interest
in the Constitution.

However, that does not negate the fact that Mr. Bush's soon-to-be war for oil is about
to be waged without any genuine legal authority. Mr. Bush has made it very clear
through his actions since 9-11 that he has no need of the U.S. Constitution or
Congress. I would imagine he felt he could get away with the same shenanigans as his
predecessor:

LA Times, July 4, 1998: Clinton to Bypass Congress in Blitz of Executive Orders

"Washington - Frustrated by a GOP-controlled Congress that lately has rebuffed him on
almost every front, President Clinton plans a blitz of executive orders during the
next few weeks, part of a White House strategy to make progress on Clinton's domestic
agenda with or without congressional help."

A virtual dictatorship launched on "Independence Day."

In return, Congress has made it clear they have no need of the Constitution either.
Last October during Congressional hearings on going to war against Iraq, CFR point dog
in the House, Rep. Henry Hyde, [R-Il] stated that declaring war is ‘anachronistic, it
isn't done anymore...'

A darling of the deaf, dumb and blind socialists [liberals], Ranking Minority Member
Tom Lantos, [D-Ca] called the declaration of war ‘frivolous and mischievous.'

On January 7, 1999, former Clinton Secretary of Labor, Robert Reich said, "...when the
president decides to go to war, he no longer needs a declaration of war from Congress."

Quite frankly, Congress really should simply resign in mass and go back to the gutter
they crawled out from. If this were the time of Thom Jefferson or Andy Jackson, these
good old boys in Congress would most likely have found themselves hanging from the
nearest oak tree.

They have abrogated their constitutional duties via treaties like NAFTA and have
completely surrendered our sovereignty via GATT. America is now subservient to the
WTO. Federal judges have become nothing more than rubber stamps for political agendas
in Washington, DC and spend a great deal of time legislating from the bench with zero
oversight from Congress.

In the case of Iraq, Mr. Bush has simply skirted the Constitution by hiding behind a
"former resolution passed by the UN" when his father was President. The united States
of America does not enter into treaties with private organizations. The UN is a
private organization promoting a one world nightmare government. We the People are
under no obligation to fund any activities by the UN, nor is Congress under any
obligation to ask permission of the UN for any undertaking.

Now to Sedition

My e-mailer thinks I should be charged with sedition for criticizing a sitting
President during a time of war. We've already discharged the notion that America is
about to engage in a legal war, so my criticism of Mr. Bush isn't being done "during a
time of war."

I was reminded by this e-mail of a remarkable event that began in 1942, and became
known as The Great Sedition Trial of 1944. Forty-two people and one newspaper were
indicted, with the first of three indictments handed down on July 21, 1942. Franklin
D. Roosevelt ordered the Justice Department investigation, but it was a political
animal from the moment the plan was hatched behind closed doors.

There were some level heads back then who found this assault on free speech a
dangerous path to tread, even if some of that speech criticized FDR and his actions
during a time of declared war. On August 17, 1942, Sen. Robert A. Taft vocalized his
objection to the indictments when he said,

"I am deeply alarmed by the growing tendency to smear loyal citizens who are critical
of the national administration and of the conduct of the war . . .

"Something very close to fanaticism exists in certain circles. I cannot understand
it—cannot grasp it. But I am sure of this: Freedom of speech itself is at stake,
unless the general methods pursued by the Department of Justice are changed."

After five years of harassment against the defendants, the charges were dismissed with
the presiding judge declaring that to allow the case to continue would constitute a
"travesty on justice." Naturally

The Bush administration issued a spate of terror alerts in recent days to mute criticism that its national security team sat on intelligence warnings in the weeks before the September 11 attacks.
The warnings, including yesterday's uncorroborated FBI report that terrorists might target the Statue of Liberty, quieted some of the lawmakers who said President Bush failed to act on clues of the September 11 attacks, although Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle yesterday reiterated his demand for an independent investigation.

... no wonder Tom Daschle got a letter full of anthrax in the mail... he stood in the way of an imposed silence on this whole 911 coup by the white house. Damn well the white house knew before 911 happened... Do you Yahoo!?

Modern Sense (Part IV)
(With absolutely no apologies to Thomas Paine)

by Edgar J. Steele

January 19, 2003

The more men have to lose, the less willing are they to venture. The rich
are in general slaves to fear, and submit to courtly power with the
trembling duplicity of a Spaniel.
---Thomas Paine, "Common Sense" (Feb 1776)

Preface (to each of the four parts)

There are a remarkable number of parallels between pre-Revolutionary
America and the America of today. It is disquieting how, in the writings
of that time, our founding fathers might have been speaking directly to
this generation of Americans. Then again, I do not believe in coincidence
so perhaps, in a sense, they were.

How appropriate that those of us who advocate a return to the ideals of
those days are called "patriots," a word which has taken on as derisive a
meaning when mouthed by government agents today as those uttered about our
forebears by King George's men during the first American revolution.

Nor is it coincidence that those of us labeled as "patriots" wear the mark
with respect and honor. I count myself proudly among their number and pray
only that my work be worthy of inclusion.

It takes some effort to update the founding fathers' works to modern forms
of language and phrasing, but the result is nothing short of amazing,
particularly when we replace "England" with "Federal Government" and "King
George" with "The President."

I have presumed to do just that in this series with Thomas Paine's "Common
Sense," a four-part work written and published in early 1776 as part of a
broad effort to convince the American settlers to declare independence from
England.

In several places, I have retained Paine's wording intact, where it has
particular impact in its original form. In others, I have edited and
rephrased mercilessly, while trying to hew to the apparent intent of his
argument, though updated to apply to modern circumstances.

I do not suggest that this is an improvement upon what Thomas Paine had to
say. I believe only that this is how he might have said it, were he alive
today and speaking of the grotesquerie that our government has become.

As you read this section, you might find it useful to contrast it with its
counterpart in the original "Common Sense." One of many on-line sources
for Thomas Paine's "Common Sense":
http://www.federalobserver.com/words.php?words=1299 . I have maintained
the original's organization and structure in this rewrite, in order to
facilitate direct comparison.

on the American Constitution. (released 12/26/02)

II. Of the imperial presidency and hereditary succession. (released

III. Thoughts on the present state of American affairs. (subpart a released

IV. Of the present ability of America, with some miscellaneous reflections.

Part IV: Of the present ability of America, with some miscellaneous
reflections.

I have never conversed with anyone related to the Movement who has not seen
a wholesale revamping of America's government, if not America's outright
breakup, as inevitable. The present course of foreign imperialism,
welfare, citizen control (oppression), economic opportunism and privilege
for the few leads inevitably to economic catastrophe and revolt.

As so many agree as to the event, but disagree only as to its timing, let
us take a general survey of things and endeavor, if possible, to find out
the very time. But we n

Revelations: Ruppert's forum getting hot on Warren Buffet, Mitre Corp.~
"I heard the announcement when they officially confirmed this, months ago. What's really odd, to my thinking, is the fact that it was all secret to begin with. They let a whole year go by in which there are all these credible stories from eyewitnesses that they saw a second plane, but it was denied up and down. Then the truth comes out that there was one, that it was owned by Buffet, that it was authorized to track the hijacked plane..." http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cia-drugs/message/46236

On October 20, 1998, Boeing ordered a bunch of planes from Net Jets.  Unremarkable unless one considers the context. http://query.nytimes.com/search/full-page?res=9B00E1DD143DF933A15753C1A96E958260

The second wealthiest billionaire in the UNITED STATES has allot of explaining to do.  Executive jets do not track commercial aircraft.  How can it be that NORAD does not make a 911 showing but this private jet does?
This is one of the most important insights into the basic architecture of the 911 crimes.  This alone could unravel these heinous crimes.
Clearly Buffet's MITRE has the technological know how to pull off remote piloting of the 911 planes as well as the capability of shooting down FLIGHT 93.  One engine of 93 was found six miles away from the crash site.  All of the professional liars of major media expect us to believe that this engine bounced along the ground for those six miles!!  Buffet's jet seems to be the only culprit for the FLIGHT 93 shoot down. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cia-drugs/message/46311

The cell phone calls from the aircraft could not have happened. I am a National Security Agency trained Electronic Warfare specialist, and am qualified to say this. My official title: MOS33Q10, Electronic Warfare Intercept Strategic Signal Processing/Storage Systems Specialist, a highly skilled MOS which requires advanced knowledge of many communications methods and circuits to the most minute level. I am officially qualified to place severe doubt that ordinary cell phone calls were ever made from the aircraft. It was impossible for that to have happened, especially in a rural area for a number of reasons. When you make a cell phone call, the first thing that happens is that your cell phone needs to contact a transponder. Your cell phone has a max transmit power of five watts, three watts is actually the norm. If an aircraft is going five hundred miles an hour, your cell phone will not be able to 1. Contact a tower, 2. Tell the tower who you are, and who your provider is, 3. Tell the tower what mode it wants to communicate with, and 4. Establish that it is in a roaming area before it passes out of a five watt range. This procedure, called an electronic handshake, takes approximately 45 seconds for a cell phone to complete upon initial power up in a roaming area because neither the cell phone or cell transponder knows where that phone is and what mode it uses when it is turned on. At 500 miles an hour, the aircraft will travel three times the range of a cell phone's five watt transmitter before this handshaking can occur. Though it is sometimes possible to connect during takeoff and landing, under the situation that was claimed the calls were impossible. The calls from the airplane were faked, no if's or buts. http://memes.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1049

It just serves to make the double-moralism America
practices even more blatant. If it's OK for America
to kill foreigners it considers criminals, then why
not for everyone else. If everyone takes this same
approach and follows suit, the whole world will in
fact be at war. Everyone with each other.

Law was meant to deal with terrorist criminals in
other countries. War takes place when this does not
happen. Israel and United States are committing acts
of war.

The Problem With the Predator

by Marc W. Herold
Dissident Voice
January 15, 2003

"Few things are as predictable as the excited bleats of Pentagon flacks
touting the killing efficacy of new weapons systems every time the U.S.
begins a military operation." [1]

A Predator that was reportedly downed in Iraq, 2001.

In December 2001, President Bush cited the Predator and Global Hawk
drones -- which display the 'virtual reality' character of much of the U.S.
military campaign in Afghanistan [2] -- as examples of the kind of
'transformational' defense technologies whose development the Pentagon must
accelerate. But in spite of the recent highly-publicized success of a
Predator drone in blowing up a carload of alleged Al Qaeda operatives in
Yemen, the system described by the Pentagon as "its eyes in the sky" has
for the most part proven to be unreliable and laughably inaccurate.

This New Year was ushered in with yet another Predator falling from the sky
into the remote village of Bashir Khan Jikhrani, a few miles from the U.S.
air base in Jacobabad, Pakistan. [3] Since military operations began in
Afghanistan, U.S. forces have lost both of their Global Hawk unmanned
aerial vehicle [UAV] drones as well as six of the smaller Predator RQ-1
unmanned drones -- that is, more than 12 percent of the total Predator
fleet of 48 drones has been lost. In early February, the Center for Defense
Intelligence reported,

"As of the end of November, there were about a dozen Predators being flown
by the CIA and U.S. Air Force in Afghanistan. However, there have been
three Predator crashes so far (one in November and two in the last week of
January), all reportedly the result of the UAVs reacting poorly to bad
weather, so there are an estimated nine Predators in Afghanistan
currently."

The total bill to U.S. taxpayers for lost drones in Afghanistan is over $55
million. The Global Hawk is manufactured by Northrup Grumman at Rancho
Bernardo, CA, at a cost of $15 million each, while the Predator RQ-1 is
made in San Diego, California, by General Atomics, with a unit price tag of
$ 4.5 million. [4]

For a year before 9/11/2001, CIA-operated Predator drones flying over
Afghanistan had occasionally picked up Bin Laden. [5] Even before the U.S.
bombing campaign against Afghanistan started, a CIA-operated RQ-1 Predator
had crashed in Afghanistan on September 23, 2001. Such an inauspicious
beginning was soon followed by another Predator crash on November 2, 2001
in Afghanistan, two more crashes during the week of January 21, 2002, and
another crash on May 17, 2002 in the hills near the U.S. air base in
Jacobabad, Pakistan. The big brother of the Predator, called the Global
Hawk, has fared even worse. Both of the $15 million U.S. Air Force-operated
unmanned craft have crashed -- the first on December 30, 2001, and the
second on July 10, 2002, near another U.S. air base at Shamsi, Pakistan.

The U.S. Air Force has used Predator drones flying out of its bases in
Uzbekistan [near the Afghan border] and Pakistan [Jacobabad and Shamsi].
Clear weather and the lack of Taliban anti-aircraft defenses allowed the
drones to collect real-time imagery which was relayed to hovering strike
aircraft. In the summer of 2001 some Predators were equipped with two of
Lockheed's Hellfire AGM-114 laser-guided anti-tank missiles [$45,000
apiece]. So far there are four reported cases exist of the
Predator-Hellfire combination being used. Two of these attacks resulted in
the deaths of at least 13 innocent civilians. On February 4, 2002, a
Predator Hellfire missile killed three Afghans scavenging for metal in the
hills around Zhawar Kili, Paktia. On May 6, 2002, a Predator fired a
Lockheed missile at a convoy of cars in Kunar province, seeking to
assassinate Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, but succeeded only in destroying a
madrassah and killing at least 10 nearby civilians. On October 26, 2001,
the CIA sent a missile-armed Predator drone from Pakistan to protect Afghan
opposition leader Abdul Haq, who at the time was being tracked by the
Taliban. That mission failed. [6]

The lone reported 'success' of the Predator-Hellfire was the Wednesday,
November 14, 2001, night attack upon a three-story hotel building south of
Kabul, where fleeing Al Qaeda and Taliban had gathered and parked their
SUVs. Predator imagery was used to call in F/A-18 jets, which bombed the
building, reportedly killing a senior lieutenant of bin Laden, the Egyptian
Mohammed Atef as well as others. As the survivors scattered Hellfire
missiles struck fleeing vehicles. [7]

http://www.indianamasons.org/imosanctum/pike/taxil.html#5

The Taxil Hoax
by Bro. Eric Schmitz, P.M.

"On July 14, 1889, Albert Pike, Sovereign Pontiff of Universal Freemasonry,
addressed to the 23 Supreme Confederated Councils of the world, the following
instructions:

"That which we must say to the world is – We worship a God, but it is the God
that one adores without superstition. To you, Sovereign Grand Inspectors
General, we say this, that you may repeat it to the Brethren of the 32 nd ,
31 st , and 30 th degrees – The Masonic Religion should be, by all of us
initiates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the Luciferian
Doctrine. Yes, Lucifer is God, and the true and pure philosophical religion
is the belief in Lucifer."

Thus was instigated what would come to be the most sensational, the most
widely abused, and the most tenacious of all hoaxes ever perpetrated against
the institution of Freemasonry. The words I just quoted were attributed to
Albert Pike, a prominent Freemason of the late 19 th century, by one Leo
Taxil, and are commonly known as the "Taxil Hoax" – although many Freemasons
have come to refer to this hoax as "the lie that would not die." Indeed, as
Mark Twain once said, "One of the striking differences between a cat and a
lie is that a cat only has NINE lives."

Albert Pike, who lived from 1809 to 1891, was the Grand Commander of the
Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite’s Southern Jurisdiction from 1859 until
the end of his life. Many Freemasons consider him to be a Masonic genius, but
he has not managed to avoid a certain degree of controversy. Pike wrote a
book called Morals and Dogma, in which he quoted many religious and
philosophical teachers’ works, on the theory that unless one knows the
history of a concept, one cannot understand the concept itself.1 This book
tends to be the focus of most of the controversy surrounding Pike. However,
the real furor did not get fully underway until three years after his death,
upon the 1894 re-publication of a work by a certain Leo Taxil, whose alleged
purpose was to reveal a highly secret Masonic order called the "Palladium,"
which he claimed "practiced devil worship, murder, and other brutalities of
an erotic nature."2

Born Gabriel Antoine Jogand-Pages, Leo Taxil was a fervent anti-Papist,
libertine, and pornographer. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge for a short
time, but was expelled from the fraternity, possibly due to his reputation as
an extremely Anti-Catholic writer. It may have been his expulsion which
turned him into an anti-Mason as well, but it is also possible that he joined
the order merely to acquire fuel for an already existing hostility to the
Craft. At any rate, Taxil’s publication of Pike’s "Luciferian Doctrine"
marked the beginning of an ongoing chapter in Masonic defamation that
persists even to this very day.

Why did Taxil pick Albert Pike as the target of his venomous prank? Possibly
because Pike did make some mention of the name "Lucifer" in his own works. It
is a little known fact that the name "Lucifer" is, in some sense, a hoax in
and of itself. The name made its first biblical appearance in the King James
Bible, in the book of Isaiah (14:12), where we read, "How art thou fallen
from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!" One problem here is that the
name "Lucifer" is actually Latin, a language that did not exist at the time
the Hebrew manuscript of Isaiah was written. In fact, the context of this
chapter of Isaiah is an account of a fallen Babylonian king, not a fallen
angel, and the in the original Hebrew, the name used is "Helal, ben Shahar,"
or "Day star, son of the Dawn." The day star, or morning star, is Venus,
which appears in the morning just before sunrise. Hence, "lucem ferre," or
"bringer of light," becomes the name "Lucifer," and a fallen king becomes a
fallen angel. Ironically, Christ is often identified as the "morning star,"
and in fact referred to Himself as such, as we read in Revelation 22:16. 3

Pike may well have known all this, or at least suspected it. His writing,
when properly inflected, clearly indicates his shock and surprise at the idea
of such a name being applied to the fallen angel and ruler of hell. He
writes, "Lucifer, the light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to
the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it HE who bears
the Light, and with its intolerable light blinds feeble, sensual or selfish
souls?" Pike is clearly upset by the attribution, referring at one point to
the "false Lucifer of the legend."4

Now, I have mentioned before that there are many instances where a Masonic
author could be said to have chosen his words somewhat imprudently, and I
believe that this may well have been one of those times. After nearly half a
century of anti-Masonic persecution due in large part to another incident
known as the "Morgan Affair" (a long story for another day), our "Uncle
Albert" may have been wiser to rememb

Bush Is Racking Up "Frequent Liar Miles"
Friday, 17 January 2003, 3:15 pm

Strategy of "lie and rely" relies on media to disseminate Dubya’s
deceptions
By Dennis Hans

Lyndon Johnson is remembered for lying about Vietnam, Richard Nixon for
lying about Watergate, Bill Clinton for lying about adultery. George W.
Bush is known as a “straight shooter.”

What’s wrong with that picture? Bush has, after all, racked up more
“frequent liar miles” than any other politician in recent memory.

Not familiar with “frequent liar miles”? I coined the expression to pay
tribute to the staying power of Bush’s lies. After all, a lie is of no
use to the teller if it is promptly branded a lie and the teller a liar.
Not only does he not benefit from the lie, his now-tarnished image makes
it more difficult to get anyone to believe subsequent lies.

Call it the Saddam Syndrome: A guy gets caught in a few lies and before
you know it nothing he says is taken at face value. All the good will is
gone, as if Saddam never shook hands with Donald Rumsfeld or made common
cause with Ronald Reagan against evil Iran. These days, reporters shout
“Show me the weapons!” and pundits deride him as Mr. Cheat and Retreat.
Our news media — without the imprimatur of a formal U.N. resolution —
have even erected a “no lie” zone over Iraq and shoot down Hussein’s
howlers before they can infect international audiences.

In stunning contrast, Bush’s lies are broadcast as truth. They originate
at the White House and are transmitted to network amplification centers
in New York and Washington, at which point the lie leaves the
president’s control. He then must rely on men named Brokaw, Jennings,
Rather and Lehrer to treat the presidential lie with respect and deliver
it to every nook and cranny in America via “the people’s airwaves.” The
longer and farther the lie flies, the more “frequent liar miles” the
president accumulates.

The strategy of “lie and rely” entails considerable risks. What if the
media Bush is relying on to disseminate his lies chooses instead to
shoot them down? A president is doomed if his every pronouncement is
greeted with groans and guffaws. That’s why it’s wise to lie only when
the truth won’t suffice AND the stakes are high — to win an election, to
avoid the taint of scandal-plagued cronies, to sell a war the public is
disinclined to buy.

Throughout Campaign 2000, candidate Bush test-piloted “lie and rely.” He
lied to a Dallas Morning News reporter to keep hidden a drunk-driving
conviction. He lied repeatedly to the national media about his own and
Al Gore’s economic plans. Did so in speeches and again in the debates.

The lies traveled far and wide. Amazingly, they remained airborne even
after repeated puncturing by New York Times columnist and Princeton
economist Paul Krugman. From that experience, Bush learned an invaluable
lesson: So long as the airwaves remain loyal, “lie and rely” can
override isolated, ink-based exposure.

As president, a confident Bush lied after the Enron scandal erupted
about how long and how well he knew the man he now referred to as “Mr.
Lay” — though it was “Kenny Boy” back in the day. A quick study, Bush
showed he had mastered what I call the “fact-based lie”(speaking words
that are technically true, knowing full well they paint a false or
misleading picture) when he said he had known of Lay in 1994 as someone
who supported Ann Richards, his opponent for the Texas governorship. Lay
and his wife did indeed give money to Richards’ campaign — and three
times as much to Bush’s.

Fact-based lies, long the domain of weasels, are particularly risky for
a president who presents himself as the antithesis of weaseldom. If
caught, he can’t reply, “Technically speaking, I didn’t lie.” The
ridicule would be relentless. That Bush would resort to fact-based lying
suggests unlimited confidence — both in himself and the giants of
journalism, who he is counting on to play or be dumb.

Bush and his foreign-policy team have told a string of traditional and
fact-based lies about Iraq’s links to al Qaeda and 9-11, as well as the
magnitude and imminence of the threat Saddam poses to the United States.
Those lies have helped the president gain far greater support from the
public and Congress for his aggressive stance than he would have
garnered with a plain-spoken, straight-shooting approach.

Again, we find that “lie and rely” has easily overcome sporadic,
ink-based attacks. In October, for example, Washington Post reporter
Dana Millbank detailed several jaw-dropping lies about Iraq and other
matters, which he described euphemistically as presidential “flights of
fancy.” But the airwaves held firm, and Millbank himself got back on the
team when he guested January 12 on CNN’s Late Edition (click here for
the transcript: http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0301/12/le.00.html) to
discuss The Right Man, a book about Bush by his former speech writer,
David Frum.

Keating board to examine sexuality, role of celibacy

By Michael Paulson, Globe Staff, 1/18/2003

NEW YORK - The national board created by the US Catholic bishops to
examine the clergy sexual abuse crisis announced yesterday that it plans a
sweeping examination of what went wrong, including an effort to determine the
sexual orientation and practices of the church's avowedly celibate priests.

The lay panel, led by former Governor Frank Keating of Oklahoma and packed
with high-powered Catholic judges, lawyers, and business leaders, said it hopes
by June to issue the first comprehensive study by the church of the scope of
abuse by Catholic priests. The study, panel members said, will attempt an
authoritative accounting of the number of abusive priests and abused minors,
the gender and age of victims, the time period during which the abusers were
trained and ordained, and the amount of money paid out by the church to settle
litigation and treat victims and offenders.

But the board said it would also embark on an unprecedented effort by a church-
appointed body to determine what caused the crisis, focusing not on why
individual priests molested minors, but on why Catholic bishops kept hundreds
of molesters on the job as priests until public outrage forced change.

''For us to be complete, we have to deal with some of these big, big issues,'' said
attorney Robert S. Bennett of Washington, a board member. ''I don't know how
much value there is in spending too much time on why an accused priest did
what he did - more important is why were priests permitted to move from parish
to parish and diocese to diocese.''

Board members, after concluding a two-day meeting in New York, told reporters
yesterday that they are determined to examine all possible causes of the crisis,
including the roles of sexuality and celibacy, and the role of the church power
structure. And they said they plan to undertake a sweeping epidemiological
study focusing on the psychosexual development and behavior of Catholic
clergy.

''We have to look at the institution, and at systemic problems,'' Bennett said.
''What is the role of celibacy? Of homosexuality? We are going to deal with the
very tough issues. I'm certain we are not going to get into doctrinal issues,
unless they are a cause.''

A variety of organizations, including news organizations and academic
researchers, have attempted to assess the scope of abuse within the church
and the sexual behavior of priests, but have always been stymied by a lack of
cooperation by the church.

''People have tried to get their arms around these numbers for 12 years,''
acknowledged William R. Burleigh, chairman of the board and former CEO of
the E.W. Scripps Company.

The panelists said they are optimistic that bishops will cooperate with its efforts,
because the board was appointed by the bishops and charged by them with
writing reports about the crisis.

''If someone doesn't cooperate, everyone will know about it,'' Bennett said. ''The
laity is not going to tolerate a bishop who doesn't cooperate.''

Board members said they are divided over whether to push bishops to turn over
the names of all abusive priests, something many bishops have been reluctant
to do.

As part of the board's effort to determine what went wrong, it is planning to
interview a number of Catholic prelates. Board members said that Cardinal
Bernard F. Law, the former archbishop of Boston, agreed on Thursday to be
interviewed by the board sometime over the next several months.

The board also said that the administrator of the Archdiocese of Boston, Bishop
Richard G. Lennon, has invited the board's subcommittee on ''safe
environments'' to visit Boston to review the archdiocese's new program for
training children to resist or report abuse by adults and training adults to spot
and report abuse of minors.

''We know Boston is getting high marks,'' said Jane Chiles, former director of the
Kentucky State Catholic Conference, who chairs the subcommittee.

Chiles said her subcommittee will meet with Lennon, review Boston's training
program, and meet with the archdiocese's liaison to victims.

The National Review Board was created by the US bishops' conference last
June as part of a Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The
board, according the charter, is supposed to ''commission a comprehensive
study of the causes and context of the current crisis in order to understand the
problem more fully and to enhance the effectiveness of future response'' and to
''commission a descriptive study, with the full cooperation of the
dioceses/eparchies, of the nature and scope of the problem within the Catholic
Church in the United States, including such data as statistics on perpetrators
and victims.''

The board is also supposed to assist the church's new Office for Child and
Youth Protection

Oz Concern About
Mossad Death Squads
News.com.au

1-19-3

Israeli death squads have been authorised to enter "friendly" countries and assassinate opponents in a move that raises the prospect of political killings in Australia.

Agents of the Israeli secret service Mossad have been given free rein to kill those deemed to be a threat to the Jewish state - wherever they are hiding.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who has until now refused permission for assassinations on the home ground of allies, has reversed the policy as part of a more aggressive approach to terrorism.

The move was revealed by former Mossad agents in a series of interviews with US news agency United Press International. It was later confirmed by US intelligence officials.

They said the policy raised the potential for killings in countries with close ties to Israel, including the US, Britain and Australia.

One Mossad official told UPI the policy shift was prompted by "a huge budget" increase for the agency as part of "a tougher stance in fighting global jihad (or holy war)".

"Targeted killings" have, in the main, been restricted to the West Bank and Gaza because "no one wanted such operations on their territory", one Israeli official said.

But that is changing with the appointment late last year of new Mossad director Meir Dagan.

Another former Mossad agent told UPI: "Diplomatic constraints have prevented Mossad from carrying out preventive operations (assassinations) on the soil of friendly countries until now."

Mr Sharon and Mr Dagan were now "reversing that policy, even if it risks complications to Israel's bilateral relations".

A third source said Mr Sharon wanted "greater operational maneuverability" for Mossad.

Asked if that meant assassinations within allied countries, he said: "It does."

The move comes in the wake of the assassination by the CIA of al-Qaeda suspects in Yemen.

Qaed Sinan Harithi and five other suspects were killed last year when a unmanned Predator spy plane fired a Hellfire missile at their car.

That attack is thought to have limited the ability of the US to protest about Mossad killings abroad.

"That (the Predator attack) was done on the soil of a friendly ally," an official at the US Congress said. "I don't know on what basis we would be able to protest Israel's actions."

Israel has in the past sent hit squads to kill opponents in hostile countries such as Lebanon, and snatch squads have been used extensively throughout the world.

Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann was captured in Argentina in 1960, taken to Israel and executed.

In 1986, scientist Mordechai Vanunu was snatched in Rome and transported to Israel after revealing details of Israel's nuclear weapons program. He was sentenced to 18 years jail, only being released from solitary confinement in 1998.

One of the few known cases of Mossad hitmen carrying out an assassination on friendly soil occurred on July 21, 1973, when a Mossad team shot dead Moroccan waiter Ahmed Bouchikhi as he walked home from the cinema with his pregnant wife in the Norwegian ski resort of Lillehammer.

The assassins apparently mistook Bouchikhi for Hassan Salameh, a PLO intelligence chief suspected of masterminding the killing of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Gullow Gjeseth, who led a Norwegian Government inquiry into the shooting, said: "This was much more than a murder. This was a violation of Norwegian sovereignty."
In January 1996, Israel paid undisclosed damages to Bouchikhi's family, but refused to admit responsibility for the killing.

Mossad is thought to have struck again in October 1995, when the head of the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, Fathi al-Shikai, was gunned down on the streets of Malta. The hit, though never formally claimed, had all the trademarks of the agency.

A return to such killings is expected to raise concerns among Israel's Western allies.
The assassinations are likely to be carried out by a unit of Mossad's secret Metsada department called the Kidon, a Hebrew word meaning "bayonet".

The agents will have to answer to Mr Dagan, who has been described by a CIA agent as having a "real killer instinct".

Officially, Israel has refused to confirm or deny the policy change.

Kim Farber, a diplomat at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, told UPI: "There is so little information available on this, there is nothing I can add."

A spokesman for Foreign Minister Alexander Downer yesterday refused to comment on the possibility of Mossad agents operating in Australia.

But, what has never been identified in a single major Western press
investigation, was that the Rothschild group was at the heart of the vast
illegal web of BCCI. The key figure was Dr. Alfred Hartmann, the managing
director of the BCCI Swiss subsidiary, Banque de Commerce et de Placement SA; at
the same time, he ran the Zurich Rothschild Bank AG, and sat in London as a
member of the board of N.M. Rothschild and Sons, Hartmann was also a business
partner of Helmut Raiser, friend of de Picciotto, and linked to Nordex.

Hartmann was also chairman of the Swiss affiliate of the Italian BNL bank, which
was implicated in the Bush administration illegal transfers to Iraq prior to the
1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The Atlanta branch of BNL, with the knowledge of
George Bush when he was vice president, conduited funds to Helmut Raiser's Zug,
Switzerland company, Consen, for development of the CondorII missile program by
Iraq, Egypt, and Argentina, during the Iran-Iraq War. Hartmann was vice-chairman
of another secretive private Geneva bank, the Bank of NY-Inter-Maritime Bank, a
bank whose chairman, Bruce Rappaport, was one of the illegal financial conduits
for Col. Oliver North's Contra drugs-for-weapons network during the late 1980.
North also used the BCCI as one of his preferred banks to hide his illegal
funds.

Rich, Reichmann, and Soros's Israeli links

According to reports of former U.S. State Department intelligence officers
familiar with the Soros case, Soros's Quantum Fund amassed a war chest of well
over $10 billion, with the help of a powerful group of "silent" investors who
let Soros deploy the capital to demolish European monetary stability in
September 1992.

Among Soros's silent investors, these sources say, are the fugitive metals and
oil trader Marc Rich, based in Zug, Switzerland; and Shaul Eisenberg, a
decades-long member of Israeli Mossad intelligence, who functions as a major
arms merchant throughout Asia and the Near East. Eisenberg was recently banned
from doing business in Uzbekistan, where he had been accused by the government
of massive fraud and corruption. A third Soros partner is Israel's "Dirty Rafi"
Eytan, who served in London previously as Mossad liaison to British
intelligence.

Rich was one of the most active western traders in oil, aluminum, and other
commodities in the Soviet Union and Russia between 1989 and 1993. This, not
coincidentally, is just the period when Grigori Luchansky's Nordex Group became
a multibillion-dollar company selling Russian oil, aluminum, and other
commodities.

Canadian real estate entrepreneur Paul Reichmann, formerly of Olympia and York
notoriety, a Hungarian-born Jew like Soros, is a business partner in Soros's
Quantum Realty, a $525-million real estate investment fund.

The Reichmann tie links Soros as well with Henry Kissinger and former Tory
Foreign Minister Lord Carrington (who is also a member of Kissinger Associates,
Inc. of New York). Reichmann sits with both Kissinger and Carrington on the
board of the influential British-Canadian publishing group, Hollinger, Inc.
Hollinger owns a large number of newspapers in Canada and the United States, the
London Daily Telegraph, and the largest English- language daily in Israel, the
Jerusalem Post. Hollinger has been attacking President Clinton and the Middle
East peace process ever since Clinton's election in November 1992.

I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me
to tremble for the safety of my country corporations have been
enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money
power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the
prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and
the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety
of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war.

Re: [CTRL] (Fwd) Tolerance Totalitarians

2003-01-19 Thread thew
-Caveat Lector-

I see a few problems here -

1) - tentt Lott and his comments on strom Thurmond -

Thurmond ran on a party, the dixiecrats, that's central platform, and the
reason it split from the majority party, was segregation. In other words the
only way they distinguished themselves as a party was on the issue of race.
So to say that country would have been better if the leader of that party
wins IS a statement about the policies of that party - whether or not that
is what Lott intended. To say that the country would be better off if the
segregationist party won certainly sounds like a ringing endorsement of
racial division and inequality.

More telling was the best lie Lott could come with was the he often voted
against his conscience when he supported various racially divisive policies.
So he was either a liar then, or he's a liar now. Not much of a defense
really.

2) the confederate flag.

No one - no one suggested that Maurice be banned from using the flag as a
private citizen, or that his stores be shut down. Citizens and businesses ,
by choice, decided to pull their products because they did not agree with
his actions. This is called democracy. See how it works - people decide.

It does not matter that the flag stands for something else as well as the
slavery issue. Just as it does not matter that the swastika is a Hindu
symbol. It has taken on the other larger meaning, and just as you wouldn't
want a Hindu congressman flying the swastika from his office, the stars and
bars acre in the same situation.

[CTRL] Counter 9.11 Conspiracy

2003-01-19 Thread John Miller
-Caveat Lector-

Today I have completed 16 years of number crunching.

So I am sticking my neck out even further than usual...

Counter 9.11 Conspiracy

The primary purpose of this post is for others to consider the implications
if there is 'Time Agenda' in operation for a war in the Middle East, namely
that war or terrorism and war will happen over the 'War Weekend' of February
1st and 2nd 2003.

Anyway, my 'Counter 9.11 Conspiracy' post suggests that unseen dark
spiritual forces enter the minds of those who have power to make decisions
or advise on important decision making. Thus telepathy is used in the form
where the mind actually thought it did the thinking, and so had the original
thought, even to pull a trigger. And I cannot point to historical,
archaeological, and even mythological evidence that seems to support such a
theory where telepathy played an important role in changing an event other
than a Biblical one concerning the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt.
And in this instance, the telepathy that hardened the Pharaoh's heart was of
God:

"And the Yahweh spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall
speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto
Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast [it] before Pharaoh, [and] it shall become a
serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as Yahweh
had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his
servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and
the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with
their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became
serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. And he hardened Pharaoh's
heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as Yahweh had said. And Yahweh said
unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart [is] hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and
thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was
turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. And thou shalt say unto
him, the Lord God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my
people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto
thou wouldest not hear. Thus saith Yahweh, In this thou shalt know that I
[am] Yahweh: behold, I will smite with the rod that [is] in mine hand upon
the waters which [are] in the river, and they shall be turned to blood."
Exodus 7:8-16

So in some ways it seems rather unfair to those like Dr. Henry Kissinger who
could be a chosen vessel for alien telepathy, a powerful puppet, who has
instigated actions which some say are barbaric and diabolical.

Thus are some of the machinations of various secretive organizations such as
the Freemasons, the Club of Rome, the Bilderberger Group, the Trilateral
Commission, and other powerful individuals and associations influenced by
alien telepathy?

OK, some say the 'Elite' inner circle members of the Bilderbergs are
conspiring to politically and economically to dominate the entire world
under their New World Order, more recently called Globalization, or Global
Union, Global Economy, Global Order, Global Environment. And When President
G.H.W. Bush used the term New World Order in several of his speeches, it
seemingly aroused suspicion and concern among the US public and so
'Globalization' etc is now used, but we are still talking about the New
World Order.

I read that the New World Order's plan is to create the American Union by
the year 2005, meaning the 'Council of the Americas'. This will include all
of the nations of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean
Islands, and will function just like the present European Union. And that
there will be only one monetary system, one central bank, one (un-elected)
governing body, one military force, one judicial system, no borders, and no
Constitution and Bill of Rights.

At the 'Council of the Americas' conference on May 6th, 2002 the founder and
Honorary Chairman, David Rockefeller thanked Vice President Dick Cheney was
thanked for his remarks.

So here I have a 'numerology' coincidence as far as my number crunching
goes, where the Skull and Bones reference number 322 is 'written' into the
date May 6th 2002, that is seemingly not to do with the establishment of the
'Council of the Americas' but with September 11th 2001 and the 'War Weekend'
of February 1st 2003.

Thus counting from September 11th 2001 to May 6th 2002, that is counting
from day 253/365.242198 days + 2001 is September 11th 2001.69269 to May 6th
2002.342239 is 0.64954 years x 365.242198 days is 237.2425 days.

And then counting backwards from 5am February 1st 2003 to May 6th 2002 is
271.4521 days x 237.2425 days is twice 32,200 a Skull and Bones reference
number is 322.

So the date for David Rockefeller's 'Council of the Americas' conference on
May 6th, 2002 was seemingly 'coincidently' set a strategic position to

Tolerance Totalitarians by Steven Yates
Over the months I’ve occasionally taken a little heat for having once written a
column endorsing Bush the Younger over Gore back in 2000. Whether we would be
any better off under a Gore Regime than the Bush Regime we have is something we
(thankfully!) shall never have to find out.

Republicans, though – especially since
the takeover of the GOP in the early 1990s by the neocons – have not only failed to
stand up to those I will call tolerance totalitarians, they have joined them. The
Trent Lott fiasco illustrated this perfectly. The cultural Marxists didn’t have to
lift a finger. Lott was tarred and feathered by his own party not excepting Bush the
Younger, and it never occurred to the political elites or media talking heads to
connect Lott’s remarks with anything except race.

But when it comes to advancing the cause of thought control in America,
Republicans still don’t quite measure up to Democrats. Consider, for example,
remarks made by former House Minority Leader and newly announced Democratic
presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt during his recent visit to South Carolina.
Gephardt denounced the Confederate flag and stated that it should not be accorded
"any official display anywhere in the state…. The Confederate flag is a hurtful,
divisive symbol and, in my view, has no place flying anywhere in any state
in this country." He added in an interview with Columbia’s The State newspaper: "I
want to be crystal clear to the people of South Carolina where I stand on this issue.
The flag should not fly anywhere in this country…. [M]y own personal feeling is that
the Confederate flag no longer has a place flying any time, anywhere in our great
nation."

As if on cue, state officials in Missouri, Gephardt’s home state, removed
Confederate flags from two historic sites this past Tuesday. The flags were removed
from the grounds of the Confederate Memorial Historic Site and the Fort Davidson
Historic Site, although not from inside their visitor centers. According to an AP
report, "the flag had flown for decades without controversy or criticism from public
officials at the Confederate Memorial near Higginsville. The remains of 694
Confederate veterans and 108 wives are buried at the site."

This illustrates how quickly state officials will jump when a tolerance totalitarian
barks. These days they don’t even have to be told. Let’s analyze this thing a little
more closely.

Note the anywhere that cropped up at least three times in Gephardt’s remarks, and
was implied throughout. What, precisely, does it mean? Gephardt didn’t tell us. He
didn’t qualify by stating – for example – that while it is inappropriate to fly the
Confederate flag on public grounds such as behind the Confederate Soldier
Memorial at the South Carolina State House, flying it on private property is an
individual’s right under the First Amendment to the US Constitution. No politician
wanting to survive inside today’s Beltway culture, much less one with presidential
aspirations, would say anything like that. Despite the war that has been waged
against the Confederate flag for over ten years now, most people – even NAACP
leaders – still see a private citizen as having a right to fly whatever flag he wants
on
his own property. However, as tolerance totalitarianism continues to grow, this could
change.

Consider: flying the Confederate flag over one’s business had become a touchy
proposition by 2000, the year the flag came down off the South Carolina State House
Dome. Barbecue baron Maurice Bessinger, long one of the Confederate flag’s
staunchest supporters in Columbia, can give you an earful. He would remind you that
many large corporations have become as politically correct as universities and
governments.

Bessinger had raised the Confederate flag over his restaurants that summer in
protest against its removal from the Dome. In August of that year, The State
published a slashing and very personal attack on Bessinger and his business,
insinuating that he was a racist who believed in slavery.

I have known Bessinger personally for a number of years. He’s no racist, just one of
the few men left who believes an entrepreneur has a right to run his business as he
sees fit if his customers are satisfied and he isn’t interfering with anyone else.
However, no one bothered to try and find out the truth. Within a matter of weeks,
nearly all the major grocery chains serving South Carolina had pulled his products
from their shelves. By Christmas, Bessinger had lost 98 percent of his wholesale
business, a business that took him over 40 years to build.

Thus as tolerance totalitarianism has continued its alarming spread into corporate
America (in this case, the grocery chains and businesses such as Wal-Mart),
exercising your First Amendment rights can cost you dearly. Bessinger is over 70
years old. He will probably never repair the damage to his business that s

Bomb threats target El Paso's bridges
The Associated Press
Jan. 18, 2003

EL PASO - U.S. Customs Service officials are asking for help in
tracking down the source of 15 bomb threats against El Paso's
international bridges that have been called in since Jan. 1.

The agency received eight of those calls Jan. 10. For all of 2002,
customs officials said 19 threats were made against the bridges.

"We must take all threats seriously, and the law enforcement
response can result in closures of more than two hours at times,"
said P.T. Wright, the U.S. Customs Service's director of field
operations for West Texas and New Mexico.

On the federal level, anyone making bomb threats faces felony
terrorist threat charges. Locally, false report charges can be filed,
and they range from a class A misdemeanor to a third-degree
felony.

Anyone with information related to the bomb threats can
anonymously report information to the U.S. Customs Service by
calling (800) BE-ALERT.

FDA searching for stolen baby food
West Chester Twp. warehouse belongs to jailed Yemeni
By Wes Hills

Dayton Daily News

Agents for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration searched for
adulterated or repackaged baby food in the West Chester Twp.
warehouse of a Beavercreek man the FBI is investigating on
suspicion of funding a terrorist.

The search of the wholesale distribution business of Ali Kareem
Aladimi’s Twins Wholesale Inc. was conducted Monday after law
enforcement officers who had searched the warehouse on Dec. 30
reported seeing about 100 pallets of Enfamil and Similac infant
formula.

The earlier search was for Gerber baby products stolen in Marshall
County, Miss., on Dec. 29.

Aladimi pleaded not guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in
Cincinnati to charges of interstate transportation of stolen goods and
receiving stolen property.

A native of Yemen and a naturalized U.S. citizen, Aladimi, 41, is
being held in jail without bond.

In 1999, federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized
more than $750,000 in cash from Aladimi’s home. According to the
Secret Service, it was packaged in resealed hair coloring cartons
and "ready for bulk shipment overseas to Yemen."

Federal prosecutors have argued that Aladimi should remain in jail
because of concerns over his attempt to bring foreign nationals into
the country.

His lawyer, Janet Kravitz, filed documents with the court on
Wednesday saying Aladimi had U.S. government approval to bring
in 22 Yemeni craftsmen to do stained-glass work.

Kravitz has said Aladimi isn’t linked to terrorist activity and isn’t a
security threat. Fred Alverson, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s
office, said this week that federal authorities have not linked Aladimi
to any terrorist activity, but the FBI continues to investigate.

Aladimi has lived in the United States for about 20 years.

Today, Kravitz will ask U.S. District Judge Sandra Beckwith to set
bond.

Aladimi has said he didn’t know the baby food had been reported
stolen before it arrived at his warehouse.

Aladimi also is awaiting trial in California on charges that he
conspired to distribute over-the-counter drugs that turned up at a
methamphetamine laboratory.

The warrant for Monday’s search of Aladimi’s warehouse was based
on a sworn statement by FDA Senior Special Agent Marc S.
Griswold.

In addition to the 100 pallets of Enfamil and Similac infant formula,
Griswold said law enforcement officers also saw in their earlier
search "two or three machines used to reshrink wrap products, a
stamping machine that imprinted the words ‘use by this date,’ a
quantity of rubbing alcohol and what appeared to be new boxes
used to package infant formula."

Griswold said that "certain criminal enterprises specialize in the
illegal repackaging and resale of expired infant formula. These
groups typically purchase large quantities of soon-to-expire and
expired infant formula then repackage it so as to appear new. On
other occasions, these enterprises steal such formula."

Griswold said there is "probable cause" to believe that the
warehouse held evidence of "the possible adulteration, misbranding
and counterfeiting of food products."

No public filing has been made of what the agents found in the
search.

[CTRL] For the Rich & Lazy

Joe Conason's Journal: 1.16.03

Joe Conason - Salon.com

01.16.03 - Remedial reading for the rich and lazy
Among the many email comments on Bush and affirmative action were two
revealing dispatches from academia. The first came from a woman whose
husband has worked for more than two decades in student services at a
university. She asked not to be identified further:

"Anyone familiar with a modern university…knows that it is not a 'meritocracy'
and there is preferential treatment all the time. It is not just the 'legacy'
admissions like George W. It is also the athletes--who get all sorts of academic
support…But one group that receives incredible special treatment (not just
admission) seems to be under the radar. My husband works for a university that
has a huge 'LD' program that essentially allows rich white students to buy
special treatment in college. By getting a doctor's diagnosis as 'learning
disabled' and paying for 'enhanced LD services,' parents of these students get
tutors, extra testing time, assistance on tests, etc. It is a virtual 'profit center;
for
the cash- strapped university, and many of these students are not so much
'learning disabled' as they are rich, lazy and dumb! "Some of these people have
to have their exams read to them because they can't read; others can't write;
they get four hours instead of two to complete an exam, etc. There is a huge
amount of staff time and energy [spent] just getting these kids through college.
But none of it shows up on the transcript--it's all confidential! When you see
these kids pull up for services and jump out of the $40,000 SUV that daddy
bought them, its hard not to get a bit irritated….[This] is happening at
universities all over the country.…The program needs to be exposed, but too
many people are afraid to speak up for fear of being accused of discriminating
against the disabled. But the reality is that the key criterion for receiving these
services is ability to pay…."

Remedial education is, of course, a major complaint of affirmative action's
critics. If remedial ed for legacies gets dressed up as "services to the disabled,"
however, that's just fine.

Isn't that special?
While searching my office for W's autobiography this morning, I came across an
old copy of "Debating Affirmative Action," an excellent paperback anthology of
essays from all perspectives edited by Nicolaus Mills. It includes a 1991 article
reprinted from the Washington Monthly on legacy admissions by John Larew, a
former chairman (meaning editor) of the Harvard Crimson.

Investigating quotas for the rich and well-born, Larew came across an
advertisement in the right-wing Dartmouth Review. Placed by a group of
"concerned" conservative alumni, the ad demanded an end to "goals or quotas
for any special group or category of applicants. Equal opportunity must be the
guiding policy…based solely on individual performance."

As Larew read on, however, he came to this qualification: "Alumni sons and
daughters should receive some special consideration."

The Yale man's legacy
Our text for this morning after the president's denunciation of affirmative action
at the University of Michigan can be found on Pages 21-22 of "A Charge to
Keep," the George W. Bush autobiography (written by Karen Hughes):

"Andover taught me the power of high standards. I was surrounded by people
who were very smart, and that encouraged me to rise to the occasion. I was a
solid student but not a top student. I did well in the courses I liked, such as
history, math, and Spanish, and not so well in others, such as English. When I
met with the dean to discuss different college options, I told him I would like to
go to Yale. Many in my family had gone there; they loved the school and their
love was infectious. On several weekends I had visited Yale to watch football
games, and I was impressed by the campus. The dean tactfully suggested that I
might think of other universities as well. I told him that if I did not get into Yale,
there was only one other option for me, the University of Texas. I was not sure
what would happen. I looked forward to either alternative. It was chaos in the
mailroom the day the college acceptance letters arrived. The fat envelopes
brought good news, the skinny ones rejection letters. I received a fat envelope
from Yale and so did thirty-eight of my Andover classmates."

Let's examine a couple of key phrases in that uplifting passage. "I was a solid
student but not a top student ... The dean tactfully suggested that I might think of
other universities as well." It sounds as if Bush was pretty confident of attending
Yale despite his so-so prep school transcript. He probably chose UT as his
safety school because he surmised the state university wouldn't reject a
prominent Texas politician's son. (That much he was easily smart enough to
figure out.)

Why was the Andover dean so concerne

True blue-bloods shouldn't get royal treatment

BY DANIEL KRUGER

Yale talks a lot about diversity and scholarship. Indeed, Yale officials seem to
value these aspects of the University so much that ideas on how to improve both
are hardly ever absent from the campus dialogue. Recently, much of this
discussion has centered on admissions policies—issues such as how to make
the cover of the viewbook look more enticing, how to recruit from
underrepresented areas, and whether or not to accept the Common Application.
These are fine points for consideration, but it's time to consider the most
striking, and least discussed, of Yale College admissions practices— automatic
preference for legacies.

V. STEPHANIE CARENDI/YH
It's notably odd that an applicant's family name might affect his or her admission
into an institution that espouses "liberal" learning. In 1863, Josh-ua
Chamberlain, who would later become president of Bowdoin College in Maine,
noted that, "In America, we judge you by what you do, not by who your father
was."

The reality today is striking: those whose parents were affiliated with Yale
College or one of the graduate schools were admitted to the class of 2004 at a
rate of 29.8 percent. Over the past 10 years, the admittance rate for those
whose families were Yale- affiliated varied to well above 30 percent. In contrast,
Yale's combined acceptance rate for all students last year was a mere 16.2
percent—and this was unusually high. Are students with family connections
really twice as qualified to attend Yale?

There are some valid reasons to expect relatives of Yale affiliates to have a
higher acceptance rate. They usually come from privileged families. Indeed, true
equal opportunity in college admissions is a mere utopian dream, since one
cannot divorce such heavily influential factors as economic class, nationality,
and family stability from childhood ach-ievement. However, in an age when even
the British House of Lords has eliminated hereditary considerations, we should
demand to know how Yale possibly justifies an admissions policy that
specifically considers the family background into which applicants are born.

Indeed, special consideration for legacies seems opposed to the goals of equity
that are commonly accepted—if not always practiced—in America today. Yale,
in its policy statement, claims to strive to "ensure equal opportunity for students,
employees, and applicants for employment or admission." A policy that weighs
an applicant's credentials with his or her birth status doesn't seem to fit the spirit
of Yale's statement. Rather, this is an affront to scholarship and the individual
achievements of every prospective Yale student.

Legacy considerations also seem to offset, if not oppose, Yale's commitment to
a diverse student body. According to Undergraduate Admissions, 14.1 percent
of the matriculates in the class of 2004 had families with some kind of Yale
affiliation. This pool constituted a larger percentage of the class than any single
ethnic or racial minority group, radically differing from the demographic make-up
of the country at large.

The Department of Undergraduate Admission's official line is understandably
downplayed, usually appearing in an obscure spot in news articles around
admission time. Typically, it makes claims such as "being a legacy can push you
over the edge" but not "automatically decide whether an applicant is admitted."
Truly there are some compelling benefits to the school of admitting legacies.
Members of "Yale families" tend to contribute to the University in numerous
ways, from monetary donations to appearances at events on behalf of Yale.
Perhaps the Admissions Office might view special consideration for their
children as a way of insuring such continued alumni involvement.

Yale students who support maintaining legacy consideration in the admissions
process—and they were heard in force at a Yale Political Union debate last
term—often argue on the grounds of aristocratic leadership. They hold that
prospective students whose parents were Yale-educated were taught to have a
greater appreciation for the institution. Legacy proponents further claim that
such applicants have been taught throughout their childhoods to emulate the
leadership qualities that Yale seeks. But even if this assertion could be verified
generally, it is hardly substantial enough to be the basis for an admissions
policy.

Yale already knows that if it is ever truly to achieve a diverse group of scholars,
its admissions philosophy needs to change. While image reform and outreach to
under-represented areas are important, Yale should take its own initiative further
and finally abolish legacy considerations. The world is filled with talented
students who could contribute much to future classes —it would be a shame for
Yale to pass them by for the sake of tradition and sentiment.

Grand jury investigates former Enron chairman's loans

By The Associated Press
(1/17/03- Houston) — A grand jury investigating activities of former Enron Corp.
chairman Ken Lay has reportedly heard testimony from two former members of
the fallen energy trading company's board of directors.

Sources told the Houston Chronicle in Friday's editions that Charles LeMaistre
and John Duncan were called this week as information witnesses on Lay but
were not targets themselves. Grand jurors for months have been investigating
stock trades by and company loans to Lay, the sources said.

LeMaistre, the retired head of University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
who ran the Enron board's compensation committee, and Duncan, a former Gulf
& Western Industries executive who also served on the compensation
committee, left the board last February.

Federal investigators have been trying to determine if Lay broke insider-trading
laws when he sold $70 million in stock in 2001 as the company plunged toward
bankruptcy. Attorneys for Houston-based Enron filed what was then the largest
corporate bankruptcy in U.S. history on Dec. 2, 2001.

After more than six months of meetings, the grand jury has already indicted
former Enron Chief Financial Officer Andrew Fastow and three British ex-
bankers. The panel is also investigating Enron's broadband division to determine
whether its financial and technological performance was misrepresented by
company officers, including former CEO Jeff Skilling.

"The directors are cooperating with the Department of Justice as they have
cooperated with other investigating bodies," Neil Eggleston, a Washington, D.C.-
based lawyer for the board members, told the newspaper.

An Enron Task Force prosecutor investigating Lay, Samuel Buell, would not
comment Thursday about the investigation. Prosecutors are not allowed to
discuss grand jury proceedings.

Last May, former Enron board members were also called to testify last May
before a Senate subcommittee investigating the company. Board members told
the panel they had no idea that Lay was withdrawing millions in loans and
repaying the money with stock options.

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee's Permanent Subcommittee on
Investigations issued a report in July criticizing the board for allowing Lay to
draw down repeatedly on a line of credit, then repay the loan with stock.

Lay used the credit line between October 2000 and October 2001 to obtain $77
million from the company, repaying with Enron stock.

LeMaister earlier told the Senate committee, "We never had any responsibility to
monitor this."

But the panel's report blasted the directors for ignoring red flags about Enron's
financial and accounting practices, arguing that only the board could control
Lay's behavior.

An attorney for the directors responded that they "can't be in a position to check
on every fact going on in a company" and that they were themselves kept in the
dark or lied to sometimes.

The newspaper said grand jurors have heard in recent months from Enron's
former general counsel, Lay's secretaries, accountants and even his children.
This week, a secretary of Lay's reportedly testified before the grand jury.

Mike Ramsey, Lay's lawyer, did not return a telephone call early Friday from The
Associated Press. Ramsey has earlier said nothing was wrong with Lay's trading
or his use of the loan options he had at the company.

Different kind of 'bias' benefitted president

January 17, 2003

I've been counting and,
so far, have come up with exactly one thing I have in common with President
Bush: We both went to Ivy League schools, the same ones our fathers did.
Which makes us beneficiaries of one of the coziest little affirmative action
programs this fine country has to offer.

Bush stopped short of actually uttering the words "affirmative action" when he
got us all talking about this Wednesday. Instead, he kept to the specifics of the
University of Michigan admissions formulas that are the subject of a case now
before the Supreme Court, calling them "divisive, unfair and impossible to
square with the Constitution."

He didn't mention anything about the whole deal with Ivy League alumni kids.

Bush was a C student. His SAT score, 1206 out of a possible 1600, while above
the national average, was well below average for Yale's class of 1968. He got in
primarily because he was a "legacy," the son of an alumnus. This might sound
divisive and unfair, especially if you are, let's say, a very smart kid whose
parents didn't go to Yale, but it does square with the Constitution, because Yale,
like the University of Pennsylvania, where I went to school, is a private
institution.

The University of Michigan is a state school, publicly funded and, as far as the
law is concerned, an "agency of the government." It doesn't have the kind of
legal leeway the Ivy League schools do.

Michigan, which receives about 25,000 applications every year for its
undergraduate classes of 5,000 students, devised a 150-point scale for ranking
its applicants. Twenty points--about one-fifth of what it takes to get in--are given
for applicants whose presence on campus would help the university meet its
diversity goals. African-American and Hispanic students get the points, as do
recruited athletes and those from poor families. And Michigan's law school sets
aside a certain number of seats each year for African-American and Hispanic
applicants.

When some Michigan state legislators heard about the university's admissions
policies, they put out a call for white students who believed they'd been rejected
because less-qualified African-American and Hispanic students were accepted
instead. The Center for Individual Rights, a Washington legal foundation, came
forward to underwrite a lawsuit. And plenty of pissed-off white kids stepped up to
volunteer. Interestingly, they didn't seem to be pissed off about the football
players and basketball players and impoverished kids. And, lucky for the
president and me, they weren't at all upset about the legacy kids, who, under the
Michigan system, get four extra points. It was the blacks and Hispanics who
really got to them.

And, of course, it was the presence of race as a factor that gave them some
legal ground to stand on. Because, while there are no laws against
discriminating against people who don't have the good fortune to have parents
who went to Yale, there are plenty of laws against discriminating on the basis of
race. The Michigan plaintiffs say they were discriminated against because they
are white.

Jennifer Gratz, a now-25-year-old white woman from Southgate, Mich., was
among the first in line to sign on to the lawsuit. She told reporters that her
reaction immediately after receiving her rejection letter in 1995 was, "Can we
sue them?"

Though she was a B student with mediocre test scores, she was sure that some
underqualified minority had taken her "spot" at Michigan. She says her life is
now forever changed, that she's given up her dream of being a doctor and that
she'll never know what kind of doors might have opened for her if she'd attended
the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus, instead of the less-prestigious
one in Dearborn, where she ended up.

Bush announced Wednesday that his administration will file a brief in support of
Gratz's suit. But he doesn't seem to be putting any effort into finding the person
whose "spot" he took at Yale.

It's too bad the statute of limitations is up because it would make an interesting
case: "It was 1964. I had great grades and perfect SATs, but George Bush was
ahead of me in line. He spent his four years at Yale partying and drinking beer,
while I would have started researching a cure for cancer."

To be fair, I haven't tracked down anyone who got rejected by Penn so I could
apologize to them, either. I'm sure there were lots of very worthy students who
didn't get accepted because of legacy kids like me. I got lucky. They didn't.

No matter how mathematical anybody tries to make it, the college admissions
process will always be somewhat arbitrary and subjective. Because schools
aren't just looking for kids who do really well on tests. They're looking for kids
who play sports and study dead languages an
