Bug#296175: package depends on itself

 (I've seen in a bug report that you temporarily merged with this one

 I think circular dependencies are perfectly right, especially for

Bug#296394: gnugo: documentation missing mention of short forms of ascii-mode commands

2005-02-22 Thread Jim W. Jaszewski

In load-game mode, there's no mention in the gnugo documentation that
'fo', 'ba', 'go' and 'la' are the short forms of the 'forward', 'back',
'goto' and 'last' commands, respectively.

Should be.

Bug#296399: gforge-ldap-openldap: somehow-viable-already option : kontact/kde/kaddressbook/kresources config for gforge-site ldap

2005-02-22 Thread Sean Champ
Package: gforge-ldap-openldap
Version: 3.1-26
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

First-off: Thank you, major-ly, for the debconf packaging work. GForge
running on a home box is .. a big deal, heh, a nice prototypical setup.

Here's what I'd wanted to mention, though:

I just found this out, not sure what to do about it, but though that I might
as well pass the word along, about it: It is possible, of course, to
configure kontact/kaddressbook to use a gforge LDAP database as a
contact-list data source.

I am not sure how this might be worked for a site, automatcally. (I had to
grep my ~/.kde/ to see how kaddressbook's address-book stuff is even
being configured, in the first place.) http://pim.kde.org/ might have some
info about this, though Im not wholly sure, as to whether it would be any
in-depth info.

So, here's a prototypical, adapted for public distribution copy of of
what I'd found in my
~/.kde/share/config/kresources/contact/stdrc :

[Resource_odd base64-like text]
LdapAnonymous=false
LdapAttributes=city,l,commonName,cn,description,description,facsimileTelephoneNumber,facsimileTelephoneNumber,familyName,sn,formattedName,gecos,givenName,givenName,jpegPhoto,jpegPhoto,mail,mail,mailAlias,debGforgeForwardEmail,mobile,mobile,objectClass,inetOrgPerson,organization,o,pager,pager,phoneNumber,homePhone,postalcode,postalCode,state,st,street,street,telephoneNumber,telephoneNumber,title,title,uid,uid
LdapAutoCache=true
LdapBindDN=uid=user's own gforge-site
UID,ou=People,dc=myhost,dc=mydomain,dc=mytld
LdapCachePolicy=0
LdapDn=dc=myhost,dc=mydomain,dc=mytld
LdapFilter=((gecos=*)(!(cn=anoncvs))(!(uid=Dummy))(!(uid=None)) )
LdapHost=localhost
LdapMech=CRAM-MD5
LdapPassword=encyphered user password
LdapPort=389
LdapRDNPrefix=0
LdapRealm=
LdapSASL=false
LdapSSL=false
LdapSizeLimit=0
LdapSubTree=true
LdapTLS=false
LdapTimeLimit=0
LdapUser=user's own gforge-site UID
LdapVer=3
ResourceIdentifier=odd base64-like text
ResourceIsActive=true
ResourceIsReadOnly=true
ResourceName=ldapkio address book - CWXN:GForge
ResourceType=ldapkio

Of course, everything in the blocks is edited from the original.

The odd base64-like text was the same, in the INI-header and in the
LdapUser field

I'm sure that the rest of the edited-text will make sense, heh; maybe it's
worth mentioning, though: Of course, some of that data -- namely, the LDAP
server's base DN, and maybe the server's host-name -- I'd guess that it
could be determined, automatically, upon the 'debconf' data for OpenLDAP

So, the user's GForge-site UID and GForge-site password should be the only
fields/values that the user should need to input, during an automatic
installation of a resource-configuration block, like that one excerpted,
above

Some considerations, furthemore - pertaining more about GForge
feature-requests, albeit, but worth mentioning here, probably:

*) With the resource-configuration excerpted above, the user's
debGforgeForwardEmail is the email address being shown; I do not know how it
could be worked, either, to get the email address to be displayed, in each
user's kontact/kaddresbook,  as:  {GForge-site [EMAIL PROTECTED] Host}

*) There are more contact-management-supporting obectClass attributes
 -- more than what are presently being used for the gforge user database.
Granted, GForge isn't a contact-management server, heh, but there are more
attributes, though, which would be supported in GFOrge, for editing, and
which might be of some use, for/in-regards-to: Contact management.

*) Integrating contact management with an LDAP directory should be rather
nifty, I'd think, for any given GForge site

*) LDAP directory access-control lists may be a matter of concern, for the
proverbial LDAP-directory admin. to consider

Those thoughts may be more fit to mention in a GForge.org forum, I
suppose. I thought that I might pass it by you - the
deb:gforge-ldap-openldap maintainer - firstly, though.

I'm not even sure about which gforge.org forum this could be worth
mentioning in, exactly, or if it should be filed as a 'tracker' item, there,
or what-else.

If this seems worth mentiong at gforge.org, then I can take the initiative
to mention it myself, there for what it's worth (user 'gimbal' at
gforge.org, heh)

...and of course, if you'd have any suggestion, as to: Where at gforge.org
this could be mentioned -- then I'd appreciate the suggestion!

I hope that this may-be/may-have-been some helpful FYI.

---
Tangential question, with some initial explanation:

Do you ever wonder: What might Debian developers ever think, possibly --
in any long while, and/or hypothetically, today -- what might folks
think, about GForge being integrated, ever, with the Debian BTS Debian
{more}?

(Something about project management system and package distribition
system ... seem like they shold be fit together, ultimately. Granted,
also: Debian packages tend to be made not-upstream, but still, there may be
something groovin that could be worked-in, for

2005-02-22 Thread Jim W. Jaszewski

This must be so easy to put into the code (no I'm not offering --
sorry):

Stepping thru a loaded game in ascii mode, it gets hard to see where the
next stone has just been put -- because unlike during live play, there
are no brackets around the last move made.
(X) (O)  Right?

For that matter, that last move could be displayed somewhere on the
screen.

And for that matter, all the moves could likely be displayed along the

Bug#295317: /etc/init.d/networking: add support for ifrename

2005-02-22 Thread Jim Barber
This is the first time I've used the bug tracker, so apologies if I do something
wrong.

This is in response to having the /etc/init.d/networking script call ifrename.
Marco said/asked No, why?
I'm hoping that Marco will reconsider his answer...
The reason why is that network adapters are not guaranteed to always come up in
the same order between reboots.
It is important to map the network devices from the init script because it must
be done before they are bought up with an IP address.

This problem bit me the other day, where previously my e1000 card was eth0, and
my 8139too card was eth1, but on reboot they had swapped over and networking no
longer worked.
This is a real problem, that affects permanent ethernet cards and not just hot
pluggable ones.
I solved the problem by mapping the names onto the MAC addresses using nameif,
since that's included in the netbase package.
I still had to to edit the /etc/init.d/networking script to call nameif though.

Marco, I understand that ifrename was designed to superscede ifrename, but I
would like to propose that you consider the option of supporting both in the
/etc/init.d/networking script.
I'd imagine that the code would work something along the lines of looking for
ifrename and it's config file first, and if not found then use the older nameif.
The code in it's basic form (minus comments and console messages) would look
something like:

if [ -r /etc/iftab ]  [ -x /sbin/ifrename ]; then
/sbin/ifrename -p -d
elif [ -r /etc/mactab ]  [ -x /sbin/nameif ]; then
/sbin/nameif
fi
Apart from adding support for nameif which is part of the netbase package, this
version also passes the -d parameter to iferename.
The documentation for ifrename specifies that the -d option should be used on
Debian systems to parse the /etc/network/interfaces file to determine which
devices to load modules for.

Bug#231071: Bug #231071: Italian translation changes hotkeys in a dangerous way

2005-02-22 Thread SteX
Hi Enrico,
I read the bug you reported long time ago about the issue concerning
italian translation and bad and malicious behavior of the mc application.
I have taken in charge (ITA) mc and I found the solution of your issue:

#: src/filegui.c:520
msgid Update
msgstr Aggiorna

#: src/filegui.c:524
msgid Append
msgstr Attacca

where you can notice that the c is wrong: c character is not uppercase,
it creates confusion withe starting uppercase letter (A).
Now it will be:

#: src/filegui.c:524
msgid Append
msgstr attaCca

and it seems not to be in conflict with other choises in the same screeen.
I shall provide the bug fix in the following repositories:

deb http://www.stex.name/debian ./
deb-src http://www.stex.name/debian ./

or

deb http://www.openlabs.it/~stex/debian ./
deb-src http://www.openlabs.it/~stex/debian ./

as soon as I am recompiling the deb package.
I shall also provide a deeper overview of the current translation, to
avoid futher (critical) issue.

Bug#287952: kernel-source-2.6.8: nfs-kernel freezes the system

2005-02-22 Thread xmedeko
 Hi, do you use NFS kernel server (from Debian)? NFS kernel server freezes
 the whole system under 2.6.8, but on the 2.4.27 or 2.4.26 works fine. NFS
 user server works fine even on the 2.6.8., but is much much slower. This
 problem last from the september (when I tried 2.6.8 first time) until the
 newest kernel-source-2.6.8-13.

 AFAIK there ware lot of changes int the NFS server module in the 2.6.9, but
 I have no time until the end of the February to try it.

Hi, I've tried kernel-source-2.6.10 (2.6.10-5) from unstable and id does not
helped. After 12 hours it has freezed. I'm attaching a config.

Bug#296400: kommander i18n scripts are missing from package

2005-02-22 Thread cobaco (aka Bart Cornelis)
Subject: kommander i18n scripts are missing from package
Package: kommander
Version: 1:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

I can't find the kdmdr2po and extractkmdr scripts in the kommander
package (and searching on packages.debian.org seems to indicate that
they're not part of any binary package).

Looking at the kdewebdev source package, I can see they're there (in the
kommander/working subdir).

As these 2 scripts are necessary for internationalizing kommander
scripts, I'd be nice to have these included in the kommander package (the 2
text files in that dir should probably be added to /usr/share/doc/kommander
to). TIA

Bug#296401: Font size for UML normal attributes not loaded correctly

2005-02-22 Thread Oskar Berggren
Package: dia
Version: 0.94.0-5

Reproducing:
  New document.
  Create a UML class.
  Open the properties dialog, change fontsize for normal attributes to
something other than 0.80.
  Save the file.(look at test file, the new value has
 been saved)
  Close the file, and reload it.
  Font size for normal for the class has been reset to 0.80.

So it seems that while the changed font size is written to disk, it isn't
used when the file is reopened.

Seeing this in all tested version of 0.94 as found in Debian during the
last year or so.

Upstream this is bug 157016:
   http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=157016
which has already been fixed.

I have looked in cvs and I believe that this is the fix:
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/dia/objects/UML/class.c?r1=1.68r2=1.69

Please consider patching the Debian package with this fix as it is
a real nuisance for me. (Together with the fix for the font size
weirdness applied recently (debian bug #273625), it will be much
easier to use dia for my reports.)

Bug#296403: mysql-server: MySQL Server does not restart after upgrade

2005-02-22 Thread Benjamin FRANCOIS
Package: mysql-server
Version: 4.0.23-7
Severity: normal

Hello Christian,

During my upgrade this morning I noticed that the MySQL server didn't
restart after being upgraded. Having a look at the previous bug
reports, this does not seem to be a normal behavior.

However if it, indeed, is normal, could the package be a little bit more
talkative about this during the upgrade ? Like, a message explaining the
server has to be manually restarted, or something. Thanks ;-)

Regards,
Benjamin.

Christoph, you may reassign this to libaspell15 and merge it with

 while

   aspell --lang=en -c file

 works correctly. It seems that there are files missing in the aspell-de

 (aspell-en provides /var/lib/dictionaries-common/aspell/aspell-en).

That file is just for Emacs dictionary registration and is unrelated to

Bug#295368: lmodern: Typewriter fonts are not monospaced

2005-02-22 Thread Florent Rougon
Hi,

So, according to Walter, it is not worth the risk or lack of
traceability patching the TFM files, because very few people would be
using plain TeX with T1 encoding and these fonts, and he expects Hans
Hagen to write a ConTeXt-specific patch if he cared about the problem,
etc.

All in all, it seems people would feel more comfortable if only text
files such as .fd files were patched. OK. This is easier for me, and I
currently only use the LaTeX format, so...

I looked at Walter's patch but I don't understand why he didn't choose
the way in the attached patch; to me, it looks simpler and less
redundant (only provided for t1lmtt.fd; the same modification could be
done for the other encodings, of course).

Could you enlighten me?

Bug#296406: php4: New 4.3.10-7 packages change file upload behaviour

2005-02-22 Thread Allard Hoeve
Package: php4
Version: 4:4.3.10-2
Severity: important

Yesterday I decided to try out the new 4.3.10-7 packages that have been
uploaded. They work fine. However, when uploading files with Internet
Explorer the behaviour of php4 has changed.

Previously, uploaded files had their path stripped from their names. So
when uploading a file C:\Test\test.txt only test.txt would remain. This
has changed when uploading files with Internet Explorer to php4 version
4.3.10-7. Files now have their full path name in $_FILES['file']['name'].

This undocumented change breaks lots of applications that rely on $_FILES
containing just the basename.

Reverting to 4.3.10-2 resolves the issue.

Kind regards,

Allard Hoeve

will disable it. Debugging is presently %s.), $a), gettext(Debug Command));
  if( $result ) { # true $result means no.

The sentence Selecting YES will enable... will be translated if a
non-English locale is used, but the words enabled and disabled will not.
One solution would be to enclose them in a gettext() function, like this:

$a = $$debugcmd ? gettext(enabled) : gettext(disabled);

 But as it is possible that enabled and disabled are or will be used in
other sentences, the same translation would not make sense for all of those
sentences, so a better solution would be to translate a full sentence,
transforming the first two statements in the function above, into:

  $a = $$debugcmd ? gettext(Debugging is presently enabled.) :
gettext(Debugging is presently disabled.);
  yesnobox(sprintf(gettext(Selecting YES will enable debugging. Selecting NO
will disable it. %s), $a), gettext(Debug Command));

Hello,
Yee-Ting Li had published a bug report about the BIC protocol which is
the congestion control algorithm used in 2.6.8 kernels by default. The
bug report can be found at
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-netm=110900271413344w=2

A different fix offered by Stephen Hemminger is at
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-netdevm=110902672620626w=2

The ChangeSet committed is by Stephen Hemminger can be found at
http://linus.bkbits.net:8080/linux-2.5/[EMAIL PROTECTED]|[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think this fix is important since the performance of the BicTCP
algorithm is far below what can be achieved, as well as being unfriendly
to other TCP streams.

In addition to that fix I'd recommend considering disabling BIC by
default since it is still an experimental algorithm.

Bug#295842: more info

2005-02-22 Thread Didrik Pinte
Because I have a customized kernel, i've just recompiled it so that
everything related to the sound was loaded as module and not hard
compiled.

It did not changed anything. Esd is still eating 100% of my memory after
trying to play a sound (new mail from evolution) and after resuming from
suspend-to-ram.

I do actually use GNOME, but the only GNOME applications I really use
are the panel, Evoluton and gnome-terminal. Since the terminal doesn't
really use icons and the damage to the panel was minimal (all the icons
in the menu were still there, for example) only Evolution was showing
the problem for me.

 Seeing that problem is on ppc, I think it's again the crappy problem
 with icons cache files.

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=296146

Yup, that fixed the problem.

Thanks.

Bug#294691: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686-smp: DVD Burner fails to function after burning a CD-R

 At some point recently, my DVD Burner failed to return md5sums from
 recently created discs. As this was an inexpensive small-name brand
 device, I assumed that it had merely quit functioning and picked up a
 Pioneer DVR-109 as a replacement.

 That too, does not function.

 I can do an MD5 sum on a disc if I do not burn any CDs from that drive,
 but once I burn a CD, reading from the drive becomes... problematic.
 The drive is mountable and its contents are readable, but the md5sum
 program returns the same md5sum each time, no matter what disc, no
 matter what iso image. Also, mounting CDs afterwards may or may not
 work.

 Switching to the kernel-image-2.6.10-1-686-smp from sid has no effect on the
 problem.

 Switching to the 2.6.9 kernel used with Knoppix 3.7 appears to fix the
 problem if I have both drives plugged in at the same time.

 This is really odd.

 I'm going to do a fresh install of Sarge soon to see if this solves the
 problem.

There was a a security fix to iotls for DVD devides a few months back,
which basically now requires safe ioctls to be whitelisted,
and this whitelist is still in the process of evolving.

Here are some things to try.
   1. Running your commands as root. Its a work around, but it should
  identify the whitelist as the problem.
   2. 2.6.8-13, this contains some fixes
   3. 2.6.8-14 from SVN, I can make a snapshot available if that helps.

   BTW, if you find it usefull, snippet of log with uncommented DEBUG in
   /etc/hotplug.d/default/default.hotplug follows:
  Thanks, that is most useful ineed.
  I am wondering if the reclassification made by
  /etc/udev/rules.d/udev.rules is correct, given
  that the kenrel doesn't seem to think that the
  tun module (i.e. the tun module itself doesn't think)
  that tun is a net module.
 Look at http://bugs.debian.org/129968, maybe it would give you a hint.

I am not sure how this relates

 BTW, I placed 01tun.rules file with content:
 KERNEL=tun, NAME=misc/%k, SYMLINK=net/%k
 and this annoying message does not appear anymore.

 It looks for me that hotplug should have an exception for net/tun (but not
 net/tun?*) class and serve it as a misc device instead net. Am I right?

The more I think about this problem, the less I think it is a bug at all.
Is there any problem other than the debug message that you reported?
With your workaround in place, is there any problem at all?

Bug#294851: kernel-image-2.6.10-1-686: directory /lib/modules/2.6.10-1-686 still exists - due to the build symlink

2005-02-22 Thread Horms
reassign 294851 kernel-package
thanks

This behaviour is provided by make-kpkg which is used
to build the header package in question.
I have reassigned it accordingly, though I think your
suggestion sounds reasonable.

 another bug report :)

 I think this affects all kernel-image packages.

 I installed the fitting kernel-headers-2.6.10-1-686 along with this
 image package.

 Then I got this message:
 /
 However, the directory /lib/modules/2.6.10-1-686 still exists. If this
 directory belongs to a previous kernel-image-2.6.10-1-686 package, and if
 you have deselected some modules, or installed standalone modules
 ...
 Do you want to stop now? [Y/n]
 \\\

 Of course, I stopped, because I was a) confused and b) of course not sure
 what I did some weeks ago.

 As you might know, the headers package creates a symlink like:
 $ ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.10-1-686
 lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 36 2005-02-10 12:13 build -
 /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.10-1-686

 I would suggest to include a test, that if there is the
 /lib/modules/2.6.10-1-686 dir, then also test if it _only_ includes the
 above symlink. If so, you can drop that message in such cases. I would
 think that many people only see this message, because they previously or
 at the same time installed the headers, by adding such a test a lot of
 time and confusion could be saved to these people.

 regards,
 jens

Bug#296419: linux-wlan-ng: fails to build for 2.6.10 kernels

2005-02-22 Thread Friedemann Schorer
Package: linux-wlan-ng
Version: 0.2.0+0.2.1pre21-1.1
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Build fails regardless of used method (using methods from
/usr/share/doc/linux-wlan-ng-doc/README.Debian.gz).
Build log is attached.
I've seen there's a more recent version of linux-wlan-ng available. Might that
be of help? I've seen reports around the web that those newer versions work
better with late 2.6.x kernels.

Bug#296417: libpam-mount: does not mount smb shares with whitespace

2005-02-22 Thread Marcus Schommer
Package: libpam-mount
Version: 0.9.20-11
Severity: important

hi,
i have smb shares with whitespaces which libpam-mount refuses to mount.
user _schommer_ is configured to be handled by libpam-mount. the user
configuration file shows:

so01:~# cat /home/schommer/.pam_mount.conf
volume schommer smb ntserver test frgb /home/schommer/mnt/test - - -
-- snip --

i've tried different combinations of and \ for escaping the
whitespace but it had no positive effects.
i think the essential message from the debug output is:

with _frgb_ beeing the second part of the share after the whitespace.

heres the complete debug output:

 Haven't decided yet. Currently I am simply quite busy in real life, but
 will certainly appreciate help with the concrete problems (they are
 probably not big - maybe we should simply disable the tests and hope for
 the best?).

When I tried to build it last time, it failed with another error, btw.
I didn't investigate though.

Using quilt add or quilt edit on a symlinked file confuses quilt. As
it doesn't recognize that the named file is a symlink to a source
file, quilt fails to track changes to that source file. This is
probably easily solved by either disallowing add/edit to a symlinked
file, or more robustly, following the symlink and adding the path of
the real file instead.

 What shell do you use? Can you do a 'ls -l /bin/sh'?

I am using dash. I use this pachine for my developements, and i need it to test
posix complyance of my scripts.

 Reading the last few lines of your log, which are for the record:

 | + which mysql
 | + [ -z /usr/bin/mysql ]
 | + eval mysql --password='qMMMfumtUgwQ' -u phpbb2

I don't have anymore mysql on my test machine. It was only a test :)

 I have trouble understanding why this is the end of the postinst,
 considering that in /usr/share/wwwconfig-common/mysql-ifnot-exec.sh,
 which is where this code is, the following fragment of code corresponds
 to this:

 | elif [ -z $(which mysql) ] ; then
 | error=No mysql client to execute, install the mysql client package and
 | run 'dpkg-reconfigure -plow packagename'.
 | elif ! eval $mysqlcmd /dev/null /dev/null 21 ; then
 | error=Error when trying to connect to the mysql database.
 | This error can occur if you have no database to connect to, or

 | use: dpkg-reconfigure -plow packagename to reconfigure.
 | elif ! eval $mysqlcmd -f $dbname -e \$statement\ /dev/null 21 ; then
 | log=${log}Executing command to mysql.
 | (...)
 | else
 | status=nothing
 | fi

 This should, even though set -e is enabled, NOT result in abortion of shell
 execution.

I'll investigate ASAP.

Bug#296421: Please include where /bin/sh points to by default

2005-02-22 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Package: reportbug

Please include in the section about the user's environment also what
/bin/sh points to, as shell script failures do happen more with certain

people sending in bugs about broken scripts who neglect telling they use
dash are annoying, as usually this error is not reproduceable with any
other shell.

This very much looks like an issue with the combination of dash with
wwwconfig-common then. Reassigning to both so that the respective
maintainers can investigate and reassign to the one package at fault (I
don't know whether this is dash's fault, or wwwconfig-common's).

Since dash is also not a shell people normally use, severity is minor.

Please in the future do list that you use dash, as it is a non-standard
shell known to cause numerous issues with postinsts. Withholding that
information only delays debugging of the problem.

Bug#296422: [PATCH] Non-DMA mode for floppy on PowerPC

2005-02-22 Thread Pavel Fedin
Package: kernel-source-2.6.8
Version: 2.6.8-13
Tags: patch

 This patch allows to use floppy drive in non-DMA mode on PegasosPPC machines.
To use it:
1. Do not build floppy driver as a module, link it statically. Transferring
parameters to it from insmod is still problematic, at least it doesn't work
properly on my system. May be i'll clean it up in future.
2. Specify floppy=nodma in kernel's arguments. Also you'll need to specify your
drive type here using floppy=Drive number,Drive type,cmos. For example,
floppy=0,4,cmos specifies type 4 (1.44 mb 3.5) for drive 0 on my system.
This patch does not affect operation of the driver in DMA mode so it's safe to
use on any platform.

Bug#296423: libtdb1: should include tdbutil

2005-02-22 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: libtdb1
Version: 1.0.6-11
Severity: wishlist

The tdbutil.c file in the sources appears to contain several useful
functions, but is not used. It would be nice to have access to these,
for example for easier storing of strings or integers in a tdb:
the tdbutil.c file contains helper functions which will use strlen, cast
appropriately for integers or allow easy packing of data.

Bug#296425: mozilla-firefox: No way to remove an accidently added search engine

2005-02-22 Thread CAiRO
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0+dfsg.1-2
Severity: normal

After accidently adding a search engine to those quick searches I had to find
out that there is no way to remove them again. (from the gui) I could probably
remove my FF config directory and start over. Though, a 1.0 version shouldn't
lack such basic features where you can add stuff that you can't get rid of
later on.

Bug#292803: remove luola-levels 5.1-1 from testing

2005-02-22 Thread Willi Mann
Hi Christian!
It seems from this bug report that the current version of luola-levels in
testing is unusable.

I therefore recommend to ask the release managers to remove luola-levels
5.1-1 from testing, to get this RC bug from testing away.

The next version from unstable will automatically enter testing when luola
goes in.

This license is non-free, and probably not sufficient to allow
redistribution in non-free, either.
Please see:
   http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/01/msg00267.html
As stated on their website:
 Spin is distributed in source form to encourage research in formal
verification, and to help a support friendly and open exchange of
algorithms, ideas, and tools. The software itself has a copyright from
Lucent Technologies and Bell Laboratories, and is distributed for
research and educational purposes only (i.e., no guarantee of any kind
is implied by the distribution of the code, and all rights are reserved
by the copyright holder). For this general use of Spin, no license is
required.

Commercial application of the Spin software is also allowed, but
requires the acceptance of a basic license. Refer to the Spin Public
license for details.

So unless someone uses it commercially no license applies. Debian itself
isn't commercial, so it doesn't apply here. The first sentence even
encourages redistribution/modification, i'd think? How much of a problem
is the restriction on commercial use, when non-commercial use is free?

Eike.

Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2005 21:54:02 -0500
To: Debian Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Reply-To: Bill Denney [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: octave2.1
Version: 2.1.64-1
Severity: normal

strftime crashes when given an incomplete structure as input. The
following will crash octave 2.1:

-- Begin Script
tm.year = 2000;
tm.mon = 1;
tm.day = 1;

strftime(%Y%m%d, tm)
-- End Script

The crash looks like this on my system (I named this script
octavebug):
-- Begin Error
octave:1 octavebug
panic: Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...
attempting to save variables to `octave-core'...
save to `octave-core' complete
Segmentation fault
-- End Error

I'll attach the octave-core file that it created.

 This should, even though set -e is enabled, NOT result in abortion of shell
 execution.

Ok, this is a dash bug, #268944.

Because /bin/sh claims to be a replacement /bin/sh when installing, this
is IMHO a critical bug -- it breaks unrelated software.

Either dash should not advertise itself as a replacement /bin/sh, or it
should behave like one expects from a /bin/sh, exiting when evaluating
an 'if' condition being not something someone expects from a /bin/sh shell.

Thanks,

already have config files for getmail 3 which you are unwilling to

Bug#296428: kwifimanager: KWifiManager doesn't save settings

2005-02-22 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kwifimanager
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: important

I am submitting a bug report that I also submitted upstream at:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1:

The KWifiManager control center module doesn't save any settings here,
regardless on whether I start it from KWifiManager or use the control
center directly. It also does not work when I start the control center as root
directly.

I tried clicking Apply on every change, but when I leave the dialog with OK
or just by selecting an other control center module from the
list and then go back all my changes got lost.

This applies to all settings in one of those 4 possible configuration as well
as the setting on which configuration to load and the setting on
which network interface the configuration is for.

I like to setup a start script that does a DHCP on the interface once the WLAN
connection is up, but I can't since any changes to my settings
get lost.

This is on an IBM ThinkPad R51 with Debian Sarge with

kwifimanager 3.3.2-1
wireless-tools 27-2
kernel-image-2.6.10-4

and ipw2200 driver (version 1.0.0, firmware 2.2).

There are also reports from users of other distribution that saving settings
does not work. But none of them contained a solution:

Bug#296427: tagtool: Clear Tags doesn't provide option for clearing vorbiscomment tags

2005-02-22 Thread Marcel Moreaux
Package: tagtool
Version: 0.11.1-1
Severity: wishlist

In the Clear Tags tab of tagtool, the following options are provided:

  * All
  * ID3v1 only
  * ID3v2 only

By not listing vorbiscomments as an option, the program suggests it
cannot remove those tags, while All _does_ remove vorbiscomment tags.

For consistency, I recommend adding a Vorbiscomment option here :)

Bug#296426: port-status page and ppc floppies

2005-02-22 Thread Holger Levsen
package: debian-installer

Hi,

http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ports-status.en.html for powerpc
oldword only shows four types of boot images (businesscard CD, netinst CD,
netboot, floppy) and misses the 2.4-floppies.

IMHO this also leads to the confused comment working(?), but legal problems.

IMHO there should be two rows:

ppc-oldworld-floppies no successful reports, please report! legal problems
with miboot
ppc-oldworld-floppies-2.4 working, but legal problems with miboot

I have never had success with the 2.6-pmac-bootfloppy myself (last tried on
2005-02-21) and svenl did confirm this. (He remembered some success in
Oldenburg but hat stopped working mysteriously.)

BTW, why hasn't the oldworld netboot image been part of rc2 ? Or of more
interest: will the oldworld netboot image be part of rc3 ?

regards,
 Holger

I'd prefer if sdl-mixer1.2 were built on mips, but go ahead. The luola has

Bug#296430: tagtool: Title Case shouldn't capitalise articles, prepositions, etc (a, the, of, ...)

2005-02-22 Thread Marcel Moreaux
Package: tagtool
Version: 0.11.1-1
Severity: wishlist

If Title Case is selected in Character Conversions, words like a,
the, of, to, etc will be capitalized too, but these should only be
capitalized if they're the first or last word of the title.

It would be nice if tagtool implemented proper capitalization.

See http://www.musicbrainz.org/popup/capguide.html for commonly
accepted capitalization rules.

 is the restriction on commercial use, when non-commercial use is free?

Is what was quoted above the sum total of the permission text that comes
with spin? I don't see anything in what you quoted above which gives the
right to modify and/or redistribute spin. It says Spin is distributed in
source form to encourage research in formal verification, and to help

sounds more to me like we're giving you source to this so you can see how
we did it, which might help you in your endeavours. It says nothing about

No permission is granted for distribution, only use. You're permitted to
download it - you're not permitted to pass it on any further. It may
well be their intent that it be redistributable, but this notice doesn't
say so. Your best bet would be to contact the copyright holders and ask
for permission to distribute it.

Bug#296433: umbrello: classes completely disappearing when moved into packages

2005-02-22 Thread Benjamin Mesing
Package: umbrello
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

I have a fairly complex class diagram (around 30 classes ).
If I move classes into packages using the logical view and
drag'n drop, some of the classes do completely dissapear when dropped into
a package. This does not become immideately obvious when looking at the
class diagram where they are still displayed, but they are removed from the
logical view. After saving and loading the file the classes are also
removed from the class diagram so they are completly gone.

The classes which are correctly added to the package and which go to
/dev/null seem to be random, I can't find a pattern. Additionally moving
Interfaces into a package often hangs the application.

Fortunatelly I use CVS!

Greetings Ben

Bug#296432: xerces25: [CAN-2004-1575] Xerces-C++ 2.5.0: Attribute blowup

2005-02-22 Thread SALVETTI Djoume
Package: xerces25
Severity: normal

Good day,

From [CAN-2004-1575] :

| The XML parser in Xerces-C++ 2.5.0 allows remote attackers to cause a
| denial of service (CPU consumption) via XML attributes in a crafted
| XML document.

This problem have been fixed in version 2.6 of Xerces.

It's not clear to me if prior versions ( xerces24, xerces23, xerces22,
xerces21) are also vulnerable.

I can filed bugs if you think it's appropriate.

Could you also mention the CAN number in changelog entries about this problem.

Regards.

There is a more concrete license at the URL in the previous post
(http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/what/spin/spin_license.html). It was
discussed on this list previously and considered non-free. Though it
wasn't concluded wether spin might be distributed in the non-free
section based on that license. There was the suggestion of asking
uptream for a nicer license to distribute spin under; but there were no
responses about wether that worked or was attempted.

I installed sarge, and updated to sid.
When the default user created during installation loged in in GNOME,
the keyboard was set to american, and had to manually change the
keyboard settings to the correct layout (swedish). The swedish layout
was configured during the installation process, although the locale is

This happens for every new user created.

Here comes a bit of info:

2005-02-22 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
Package: insight
Version: 6.1+cvs.2004.08.11-1
Severity: normal

If I do:
$ echo $DISPLAY

$ sudo su - myaccount

Segmentation fault

You can also do:
$ echo $DISPLAY
:0.0
$ insight
correct execution
$ export -n DISPLAY
$ echo $DISPLAY

$ insight
Segmentation fault

It would be nice if the error message was more explicit (like it is the
case with xeyes for example).

Maybe the bug is not in insight but in libtcl.

Bug#296441: zapping: set line sound level to 0 when changing channel

2005-02-22 Thread browaeys . alban
Package: zapping
Version: 0.9.1-1
Severity: normal

This is one of the new bug that appear now all the crashing
zapping bugs are fixed :-/

When the setting prevent sound when switching channel is set to
true in general options audio in preferences, the sound is
not only set to null on the mixer line, it also does not restore
it after the switching is done. Thus one have to open the volume
control and set the line volume level by hand to restore it.
Settings this option to false prevent this bug.

Regards
Alban

Bug#296435: awstats_buildstaticpages.pl should print errors to STDERR

 awstats_buildstaticpages.pl should print error messages to STDERR. This
 can be accomplished by modifying the error subroutine as follows:

 sub error {
 print STDERR Error: $_[0].\n;
 exit 1;
 }

Thanks. I'll add that for next release of the package.

It is on my todo for the package to switch to generating static pages
only by default. Do you have experience with this, and perhaps valuable
hints setting it up in a good way?

Bug#296443: Update ARM netwinder rules to be correct

2005-02-22 Thread vince
Package: kernel-package
Version: 8.124
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The kernel-package rules are incorrect for ARM netwinder, we fake a
compressed header on uncompressed kernel Image files otherwise some
bootloaders get it very wrong.

This chnage has been used by the Debian ARM kernel maintainer (me ;-)
for some time and I only just discovered I havnt submitted the change
before (many apologies)

Its labeled important because others are waiting to reproduce the
builds of updated ARM kernel images (I've been unavailable for a while
- again my bad)

Allard Hoeve said:

 This undocumented change breaks lots of applications that rely on $_FILES
  containing just the basename.

This is fixed in CVS, and will be in the next php4 upload. Thanks.

Bug#294691: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686-smp: Looks like it might be a hardware issue

2005-02-22 Thread Shawn M. Jones
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686-smp
Version: 2.6.8-10
Followup-For: Bug #294691

I was still testing when I received the message from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

After going through several iterations, I realized that if both DVD
burners were installed on the same IDE cable (which is how I got to
testing with Knoppix), the problem goes away. If only one is installed,
then I can sometimes overcome the issue by ejecting the tray a few
times to get a good read.

I've replaced the IDE cable to no avail. I have no other system at my
disposal to take down and install the DVD Burners to see if they are an
issue, but I think they're ok. Looks like the motherboard is acting up
on me.

Thank you for your time, but it looks like I might have some flaky
hardware. I'm sorry to have wasted your effort.
