many, and their date is "2004-08-29 21:47". I don't know why they are
there. Maybe I should reinstall my debian. :)

Bug#293981: I think it's a doc bug and version difference

2005-10-30 Thread Albert Cahalan
Some time ago, bold was removed from the default settings.
People with real terminals tended to hate it, and the Slackware
maintainer hated it. It did look kind of gaudy and gross.

So, I think this will be no different on i386 if you have the same
version and no ~/.toprc file to override the default.

A patch for the man page would be helpful I guess.

Bug#336364: woody->sarge upgrade broken by changed uw-imapd policy

Did you try building the upstream with the makefile option SSLTYPE=unix ?
I am doing it myself for the time being for the installation here,
to get back the old behaviour.

> It is documented in README.Debian how to enable it anyway, using a
> method documented (but discouraged) by upstream.

Hmm. If you refer to the Authentication section there, it redirects
the reader to /usr/share/doc/libc-client2002edebian/md5.txt
That one explains how to enable CRAM-MD5 SASL support.

If I create the /etc/cram-md5.pwd as suggested there, I get an
AUTH=CRAM-MD5 capability at the IMAP protocol prompt, but
still with a LOGINDISABLED.

> I dare close this as a non-bug.

The upgrade has broken a working system, under a false pretext of
security (where the original setup I had described is actually more
secure than your typical self-signed-or-crippled-strength SSL), so please
at least point me to an up-to-date document that explains how to cope with
the problem. Mark it as a wontfix if you please, but this is a bug
as it breaks things that worked in the previous version of the package.

Or am I totally off the track and missing some obvious clue in the docs?
Sorry if that is the case.

Vassilii

Bug#336302: Further information

2005-10-30 Thread Anthony Campbell
Someone else on the Debian user list has encountered a similar problem.
However, I now think it may not be wireless-tools that is responsible.

I did a fresh install of debian stable via netinst and everything
worked. I then upgraded both wireless-tools and pcmcia-cs from
Sid and the wireless connection still worked. However, a full
dist-upgrade breaks the connection as before.

It therefore seems as it the bug is not in wireless-tools as such, but I
have no idea which package is responsible.

Well, we end up needing dpkg-genchanges and dpkg-buildpackage with support for
building only architecture-independant parts of the package and not
architecture-dependent ones (see #109794 #200454).

> If this package is not supposed to be built on m68k, please say so in your
> control file and/or stop the build right at the beginning.

I see two approaches:
for {wanna}-build{d} I should mail to Packages-arch-specific maintainers to
include ara there so that being skipped built on s390, mips, mipsel, m68k
since there are no native code compilers there. On these arches we can build
only arch-indep parts of the package.

At the user side build attempts on s390, mips, mipsel, m68k will fail again
and I leave a message to the user explaining why the built on arch-dependant
parts will fail. I'm not sure where exactly you want me to stop the built on
such cases ? Please elaborate. Better ideas welcome. Thanks.

Bug#336425: irssi feature requests

2005-10-30 Thread Martin Schulze
Package: irssi-text
Version: 8.9-3.1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Moin,

I'd like to issue two feature requests. With all the comfort irssi
provides, I even found two items that would make me even more
comfortable with this irc client.

 1. Configure colors per channel/window

Currently the hide_colors setting affects the entire session and
not just one channel or window. It would be nice if I could turn
on colours in one particular channel and leave them off in all
others (or vice versa, if others prefer it that way).

 2. Configure timestamp per channel/window

Currently the timestamps setting affects the entire session. If
it is turned off for the benefit of high traffic channels, it
can't be turned on for lower frequency channels, which I would
like to be able to. It would be nice if I could turn it on for
a particular channel.

Please forward this upstream.

Regards,

Joey

Actually the packages *should* enter unstable in a few days. My sponsor

If you can't wait, the source package can be found on mentors.debian.net. If
you need a binary, i can rebuild one and send it to you.

I'll tell you when b2evo has entered unstable.

There is already infrastructure for binary-arch and binary-indep available, as
well as two set of build-deps, the normal ones and the indep ones.

Christian, this is a fuckup of the buildd's i think, which try to build stuff
even if not marked for them. Not sure i haven't locked at this recently.

That's the problem, that they are not available anywhere. I don't know for
sure, which package they belong to (linux-headers-2.6.14-1-amd64-k8 or
linux-headers-2.6.14-1 in mycase), but everything I have got in
linux-headers-2.6.14-1-amd64-k8 is just a dangling symlink include/asm
pointing to include/asm-x64_86, which is missing. The same (just with
different arch names) applies to i386 arch and its flavours.

While I agree that those defaults aren't good I must also say that
there isn't a common command to use for a postscript-viewer, so all I
can do is adding a Suggests: on such a viewer and making note of this
in README.Debian.
The "lp" call, however, can be fixed to refer to "lpr" instead, also
adding a Suggests:.

As thus this bug is partially fixed as of the upcoming html2ps_1.0b4-3
I downgrade the severity to minor.

the same point in the install. I've tried with:

They say (on VT3):

We don't have another nfs server currently. However, if the requisites in
replicator are generic nfsd funcionality, and no special feature is needed,
you should allow other packages providing "nfs-server" to satisfy it.

If nfs-user-server is a problem for a specific reason, I suggest:

  Depends: nfs-kernel-server | nfs-server
  Conflicts: nfs-user-server

Then we port, for example, FreeBSD nfsd [1] to GNU/kFreeBSD, we can make it
provide nfs-server and everything will work.

Package: mozilla-browser

I already installed firefox, mozilla-browser packages on my system.
mozilla-browser is heavy and not used any more by me. my main browser is
firefox. it was originated from mozilla source. but now they are
different as independant instance.

so when I decided to remove mozilla-browser, I found other documentation
packages depend on this package. although they contains HTML docs,
we can read them with other alternatives.(lynx, w3m, .., another
mozilla-based or independentties.)

I recommend to associate those doc packages with the virtual name
'www-browser' (so other users as well as I can choose and/or reduce
their disk space.)

Presumably I would still need a script in order to propagate things into

If you don't know, then check which of them got pulled in when

Bug#335891: no yp support due to missing or diabled libcurl-support at compile time

2005-10-30 Thread Alexander Schories

Package: icecast2
Version: 2.3.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello Jonas, Hello Chris,

as Chris pointed out correctly version 2.3.0-1 has not been build against
libcurl, so icecast2 YP-support has been disabled in this binary:

/var/log/icecast2/error.log therefore comes up with:

main/main YP server handling has been disabled

It would be very nice of you, Jonas, if this package would officially
support yellow pages for icecast2 again. :)

Thank you very much!

Kind Regards

Alexander Schories

Thanks.

Erik is upstream author of yaird so knows what he is doing (unlike

Hello there Andres,

I just X-Debbugs-Cc you in order to inform you that I have reopen your

Great! thanks for that pointer. I suggest you add a hint to that
extent to uw-imapd Authentication section in README.Debian to
prevent further puzzlement of other folks using it...

In any case, this is just a doc issue then.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Bug#336437: amaroK immediately crashes on playback if using the xine engine

2005-10-30 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Package: amarok-xine
Version: 1.3.5-1
Severity: important

Using the xine engine and ALSA or OSS output amaroK always crashes
immediately when starting playback.

As I could not find a corresponding bug in KDE's bugtracker and doubt
that the amaroK team would release a version with such a major
functionality problem - especially as the use of arts-engine is
discouraged by them - I guessed it's a Debian specific problem.

IIRC this happened to all amaroK in Debian since the C++ ABI
transition. My current workaround is to use arts-engine until this crash
is fixed.

Any ideas which may be causing that?

Bug#336438: amaroK always restarts one or two times if trying to close it

2005-10-30 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Package: amarok-gstreamer
Version: 1.3.5-1
Severity: normal

amaroK always restarts immediately if it was running, it's volume
level was set to anything else than "0" and I try to close
it for the first time. The restarted amaroK has its volumen level set to
0% and can be closed without any problems.

No crash message or backtrace appears. There are no related messages in
the console as well.

This behaviour does not seem to be related to the egine used and even
happens if changing the egine to "none" before closing amaroK.

This problem is a nuisance but does not amaroKs performance while its
running.

Bug#336440: linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7: Missing dependency on cpio.

2005-10-30 Thread Bas Kloet
Package: linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7
Version: 2.6.14-1
Severity: important

linux-image-2.6.14-1-k7 fails to install because of a missing dependency on
cpio. The dependency on initrd-tools normally meant that cpio was
automatically installed as well, but since yaird doesn't have this
dependency the kernel fails to install in this specific case.

ok. It is a yaird bug then, it seems.

What version of yaird? And are you running an up-to-date sid system or
some mix or locally backported stuff?

Try do a 'dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.14-1-686' and see if it
spews out any errors or warnings.

Please do :

 dpkg -l | grep linux-headers.

and :

  dpkg -L linux-headers-2.6.14-1-amd64-k8
  dpkg -L linux-headers-2.6.14-1

And provide the output here.

Bug#336441: galeon: Crashes on specific actions/page combinations on amd64

2005-10-30 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: galeon
Version: 1.3.21-8
Severity: important

I switched to an amd64 machine. On this machine, Galeon crashes rather
often when clicking on a link or pressing the "back" (or "forward")
button. The bug is reproducible in that clicking on the same link on
the same page with the same user always gives the crash or using the
"back" button to go from page A to page B with the same user always
gives the crash. But when going directly to page B, crash does not
necessarily happen.

I removed all plugins except for nullplugin and tried with a new
user. Mozilla does not suffer from this problem.

Examples:

 - Go to http://www.timeforkids.com/ by typing URL in URL bar.
   Click on Dakota Fanning link
   (http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/news/story/0,6260,1119226,00.html). Crash.

 - Restart galeon, drop session, go to
   http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/news/story/0,6260,1119226,00.html
directly. Works. Type "http://www.timeforkids.com/"; in URL bar,
type enter, page displays and galeon crashes.

 - Create new user, start fresh Gnome, start "galeon
   --disable-crash-dialog", go to http://www.timeforkids.com/, click
on Dakota Fanning link. Works. Click on "back" button. Crash.

Running galeon under gdb fails:

Bug#336264: Better patches for #336264

2005-10-30 Thread Henning Makholm
One should always read the spec!

It turns out that getaddrinfo() can already do the filtering I did
manually in my original patches. Here is a set of smarter patches that
lets getaddrinfo() filter instead.

--
Henning Makholm "No one seems to know what
distinguishes a bell from a whistle."
This patch fixes a problem with the IPv6-mode address resolution
in innfeed. The upstream code neglects to tell getaddrinfo(3) that it
wants a SOCK_STREAM; thus each address for the hostname thrice gets
reported thrice: one with each of SOCK_STREAM, SOCK_DGRAM and
SOCK_RAW. Therefore an address that is unreachable will be tried
three times before innfeed goes on to try another address.

This patch amends the getaddrinfo(3) call to request a SOCK_STREAM
address.

Created by Henning Makholm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 2005-10-30 while
investigating Debian bug #336264. This patch is in the public domain.

This patch must be applied after 'antiudp.patch'.
It fixes Debian bug #336264, by adding an innfeed configuration option
'avoid-ipv6' that suppresses IPv6 connections unless IPV6 addresses is
all we have.

In the interest of being non-intrusive the option is off by default,
but it should be mostly harmless to have it on for all feeds (such
that user configuration would in most cases be necessary for using
IPv6 transport); after all there are no documented guarantees about
the order in which which getaddrinfo(3) returns alternative addresses.

Created by Henning Makholm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 2005-10-30.

Bug#336443: /usr/bin/lyx-xforms: Cursor behaves strangely when the system clock is changed

2005-10-30 Thread Silas S. Brown
Package: lyx-xforms
Version: 1.3.4-2
Severity: normal

Today I set the system clock back 1 hour due to the end of
British Summer Time (the equivalent of Daylight Saving
Time). The LyX cursor stopped blinking, and when another
window was placed over the cursor and then moved away, the
cursor was not re-drawn until it was moved. Maybe the
cursor code is depending on the real-time clock rather than
on a timer that is independent of clock time.

Bug#336446: hugs98(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date config.sub/config.guess

2005-10-30 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: hugs98
Version: 98.200503.08-4
Severity: important

Hello,

The current version of hugs98 fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated config.guess and config.sub.

The version of config.guess and config.sub in the fptools/
directory of hugs98 is too old to correctly support Debian
GNU/k*BSD. A version is needed from this year, which is
available in the autotools-dev packages that are in current
sarge, and sid.

You can simply copy them manually, but it can also be done
automatically using the method described in
/usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update
config.guess and config.sub in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Weird. Your modem should have been there when one of the ALSA modules
has loaded successfully, but apparently something broke. Can you load
snd-intel8x0m snd-via82xx-modem manually?

For the alternative (SmartLink driver), could you try the latest upstream
version 2.9.10 from http://www.smlink.com/ ? I guess you will need to
unload ALSA modules before trying that.

I only partially agree. I think it would be really better if you rename
or copy fr_CA.po into fr.po, so that everybody speaking French has a
complete French translation, and for the country-specific part of the
translation, it will be overriden by the fr_* translation.
In the current situation, there is only a small subset of French
speaking users who have a translation. For the end-user, I think it is
better to have a complete Canadian translation even if he/she comes from
France, Belgium, ... than no translation at all.

Cheers,

I just noticed that instead of maintaining all these PRUNEFS entries,
we can just get the right list for exactly THIS kernel we run on
via /proc/filesystems taking nodev into account.

At least this can be always excluded by default.

We can also include some less interesting directories here.

Bug#336449: fail2ban: Mails have Date: header in GMT timezone

2005-10-30 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: fail2ban
Version: 0.5.4-7
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

mails generated by fail2ban always have a GMT (+) Date: header.
This is quite annoying when you try to correlate fail2ban mails to
syslog entries, because syslog logs in localtime and thus local
timezone.
I have no idea about the intention to add a Date: header to the mails
at all. When you just leave the Date: header away in mail.py, MTAs will
add an appropriate one on their own in the systems timezone.

This is most likely something to forward upstream.

Thanks for your work & regards

Bug#336455: ./debian/rules clean not complete

2005-10-30 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: lincvs
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: serious

While trying to add the last missing build of 1.4.3-1 for ia64 I
noticed that ./debian/rules clean is not complete since upstream's
make distclean isn't complete either. Most notably the tools in contrib
are not cleaned up correctly. You need either to fix lincvs.pro so that
the clean target cleans up there, too, or add manual calls to make distclean
in these directories to debian/rules.

Also problematic is the rebuild of .qm files since these lead to
unrepresentable changes to the source. clean needs either to restore them
or at least delete them (which leads to uneccessary rebuilds, though...)

Sorry for not noticing that earlier. I just found a point that is not in my
usual sponsoring checklist ;)

Bug#335474: pilot-link: pilot-xfer segmentation fault with Palm Tungsten E2

2005-10-30 Thread Thomas Degris

Hello,

thank you very much for debugging pilot-xfer.

- Is Blazer.prc file/application bigger than 32KB?

Blazer.prc is the web application distributed by PalmOS. Its size is
464ko. The file has also the following attributes enabled: "Read Only",
"Backup", "Copy Protect", and "Resource DB".

- Can you try with pilot-link 0.12.0-pre4 available from Debian
 experimental [1]?

It seems to work. So, can I use it for backing up my palm or do you
advise to use something else until 0.12.0 is available in unstable or
testing ?

Thank you very much,

Thomas

2005-10-30 Thread Malcolm Scott

Package: libgnutls11
Version: 1.0.16-13.1
Severity: normal

When using a non-blocking socket (created by the socket() call)_gnutls_read
fails with EAGAIN which propagates up the call stack accompanied by the
following assertions. Where upon in gnutls_recv_client_cert it gets
converted to GNUTLS_E_NO_CERTIFICATE if CERT_REQUIRE is set. However the
client hasn't had anywhere near enough time to send the certificate.

Debug output from gnutls:

ASSERT: gnutls_buffers.c:231
ASSERT: gnutls_buffers.c:888
ASSERT: gnutls_handshake.c:851
ASSERT: gnutls_kx.c:473
ASSERT: gnutls_handshake.c:2254

Thus either this should be well documented as a fundamental flaw of GnuTLS
(i.e. it does not fully support non-blocking sockets) or patched to
propagate GNUTLS_E_AGAIN to the caller of gnutls_handshake instead of
E_NO_CERTIFICATE, so the caller can decide when to abandon the quest for a
client certificate. I haven't checked whether receiveing another header that
isn't a cert causes an appropriate failiure, if we just naively pass E_AGAIN
back up the stack.

The libusb package in unstable already supports /dev/bus/.

Bug#336458: python2.3-gnome2-extras: please rebuild against libnautilus-burn2 for GNOME 2.12

2005-10-30 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Package: python2.3-gnome2-extras
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

python2.3-gnome2's dependency on python2.3-gnome2-extras cannot be satisfied
for GNOME 2.12 (currently in
experimental - soon entering unstable) because nautilusburn has bumped up from
libnautilus-burn1 to libnautilus-burn2
which itself depends on the new dbus (also bumping SO version up).

Thus, we would need a rebuild of python2.3-gnome2-extras against
libnautilus-burn2 for GNOME 2.12, first to
experimental and then to unstable once the new dbus and GNOME hits unstable.

Thanks!

Bug#336295: linux-headers-2.6.14-1: maybe this makes it clearer?

2005-10-30 Thread Richard Antony Burton
Package: linux-headers-2.6.14-1
Version: 2.6.14-1
Followup-For: Bug #336295

I'm also hitting this problem, maybe what's missing is made a little clearer by
the comparison between 2.6.12 & 2.6.14:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root8 Sep 30 19:44
./linux-headers-2.6.12-1-686/include/asm -> asm-i386
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 48 Sep 30 19:44
./linux-headers-2.6.12-1-686/include/asm-generic ->
../../linux-headers-2.6.12-1/include/asm-generic
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 8192 Sep 30 19:44
./linux-headers-2.6.12-1-686/include/asm-i386
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root8 Sep 30 19:44 ./linux-headers-2.6.12-1/include/asm
-> asm-i386
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Sep 30 19:44
./linux-headers-2.6.12-1/include/asm-generic
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 8192 Sep 30 19:44
./linux-headers-2.6.12-1/include/asm-i386

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root8 Oct 30 12:27
./linux-headers-2.6.14-1-686/include/asm -> asm-i386
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 30 12:27
./linux-headers-2.6.14-1-686/include/asm-generic
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 30 12:27
./linux-headers-2.6.14-1/include/asm-generic

What we have is a broken symlink in base headers pointing to the non-existant
include/asm-i386. In 686 headers we have missing include/asm-i386 and missing
asm->asm-i386 symlink.

Richard.

These two are the same bug: due to the implementation of RPC broadcasts

This could be changes to video drivers in the kernel. Please describe
your graphics card used.

Also, 2.6.14 is no longer supported by mkinitrd so even if you haven't
explicitly selected yaird then that (or initramfs-tools) is used now.
Please try the following:

 1) add "ramdisk = /usr/sbin/mkinitrd.yaird" to /etc/kernel-img.conf
 2) make a backup of the initrd for your older working kernel
 3) Run "dpkg-reconfigure "
 4) Reboot with older kernel

This can help test if the problem is specific to the latest kernel or a
bug in yaird irrelevant of kernel version.

You can also try installing initramfs-tools, uninstalling yaird, run
"dpkg-reconfigure " and reboot with new kernel.

It seems rcconf (and perl) can't find stddef.ph in your environment.
In my i386 environment, there are stddef.ph at
/usr/lib/perl/5.8.7/linux/stddef.ph .

Could you check stddef.ph in your environment?

 $ perl -e 'print join(":",@INC),"\n";'

Oups! Seems to be a Mozilla problem after all... The way I had tested
Mozilla was to do exactly the same thing as in Galeon. It seems that
Mozilla still has these crashes, but in slightly different
situations. E.g. if galeon crashes when clicking on the link from A to
B, Mozilla doesn't on the link, but does when clicking on the "back"
button to go back from B to A.

At this point, this may be a dupe of #321644. Recompiling Mozilla to
test it.

Bug#329431: I couldn't get the afs-newcell script to work in Debian Sarge.

2005-10-30 Thread drag sidious

I hope this helps someone.

I couldn't get the afs-newcell script to work worth a damn for me. I had
to comment out the line were it overwrites the cellservdb file, but it
would still fail and I couldn't figure out why.

But I was able to get it working to the point were I can run the
afs-newvol script.

I am using package 1.3.81-3sarge1, in Debian Sarge, obviously.

I tried to document to the best of my ability on how I got it running.

Keep in mind that I am no expert. This is only the second time setting
up a openafs server. Most of this is lifted from the OpenAFS's website
quickstart documentation. Double check the commands and read the
documentation and such before following this stuff.

Be sure to install the openafs-client with 'no' on start now and at
bootup time.

Maybe it would be nice to include this in the /usr/share/doc/ stuff with
the package if it seems like a good idea.

# This is the steps I took to get OpenAFS server functional without

pilot-link 0.12.0 is still in a "pre" state. You can use it if you have
no other choice and if it works for you. But be warned that it may
contain (important) bugs.

I will close this bug when pilot-link 0.12.0 (stable) enters unstable.

Bye,

Bug#336465: easytag: mp4/m4a tag editing does not work

2005-10-30 Thread Adam Kessel
Package: easytag
Version: 1.99.8-1
Severity: normal

Despite the changelog entries indicating that mp4 tags can now be
editing, easytag never shows any information or allows editing of any mp4
files that I have tested. I've tried setting the extension to both mp4
and m4a with no change in the results.

It also appears to expect mpeg4ip to be installed, which is not in Debian
at all. I installed the rarewares package, but it did not change the
result--still no mp4 tagging.
