Bug#349944: Seek slider and track time reporting totally borked

2006-01-25 Thread EspeonEefi
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.9.2-3
Severity: normal

The slider which is supposed to show the time elapsed in the currently
playing track is totally borked. It stays stuck at 0:00; it doesn't
update, the total track time displayed does not change when the track
changes.

This may be related to more serious problems in Rhythmbox's ability to
keep track of the time elapsed in the currently playing track. The
tooltip for the Rhythmbox notification area icon does update the total
track time correctly. However, the current time is either 0:00 or some
insane value (e.g., right now it says 82566:03:01 of 0:01:05).

Bug#349945: bins: non-ASCII characters in xml files are corrupted in HTML output

My xml files (album and image) have unicode characters in them that are being
converted into some other form to make the HTML output. For example, one of my

You might try to compile the versions of libwrap0 and ssh from

Bug#217477: --quirk

2006-01-25 Thread Mark Robinson

this is still borken

piwakawaka:~# aptitude -qq update
Expected a number after -q=, got q
piwakawaka:~#

which is a lie, there was no -q=

Here's the relevant code from main.cc in aptitude-0.4.1:

case 'q':
  if(optarg == 0)
++quiet;
  else
{
  if(*optarg == '=')
++optarg;

  if(*optarg == 0)
{
  fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=\n));
  return -1;
}

  char *tmp;
  quiet = strtol(optarg, tmp, 0);

  if(*tmp != '\0')
{
  fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=, got %s\n),
  optarg);
  return -1;
}
}
  seen_quiet = true;
  break;

Obviously the block dealing with the parameters needs to be defined contingent
on the existance of the =.

case 'q':
  if(optarg == 0)
++quiet;
  else
{
  if(*optarg == '=')
{
  ++optarg;

  if(*optarg == 0)
{
  fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=\n));
  return -1;
}

  char *tmp;
  quiet = strtol(optarg, tmp, 0);

  if(*tmp != '\0')
{
  fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=, got
%s\n),
optarg);
  return -1;
}
}
}
  seen_quiet = true;
  break;

which then gives the behaviour where

aptitude -q -q moo
aptitude -q=2 moo
aptitude -vVsq upgrade

work while

aptitude -qq moo
aptitude -qvvv moo
aptitude -qvVs upgrade

fail as all options after the first q are ignored.

I also changed the line

{quiet, 2, NULL, 'q'},

in opts[]={ to

{quiet, 0, NULL, 'q'},

but it still doesn't behave as I would expect.

The -q=n syntax is anomalous, every other option uses -x value. I suggest
that -q= be deprecated and that -qqq or -q n be encouraged instead.

I can't spend any more time on this now and I'm at almost all at sea.

Perhaps a proficient coder could have a look-see.

A side note: Attempting to compile aptitude throws up a linker error about not
being able to find cppunit. I assume this should be added as a build-depends ?

The docs may need some attention after all this.

You need to edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-2.6.14-2-k7.postrm.
Comment out line 268, which reads: $ret = stop ();. Then purge the

This package depends on libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.3 in etch/testing,
but that package isn't available. This is pretty bad, since a lot
of important packages, apt-file for one, depend on this package.

Since the packages web site is down, and it replacement web page
tells you, amongst other things, to use apt-file instead, it sure
would be nice if I could even install apt-file.

Bug#338846: kexec-tools: FTBFS on all arches except on Intel

I have been waiting for upstream to release a newer version of

ultimately be supported on all architectures. It just will take time to
get there. As a result, I am a little reluctant to restrict the arch

to look at the patches floating on fastboot mailing list for
architectures other than ia64 and i386 and see if those could be
incorporated in kexec-tools package.

Hi,

There is no real rush. I just bumped into kexec-tools while examining the
list of the packages which failed to build on sparc. If there are upstream
plans to support other arches, then it's totally fine. The only concern is
whether this support will be done in time for etch.

First, the whole idea of $PATH is that you don't need to hardcode

you make it less portable.

In this case, though, it's probably required, since otherwise you could
end up with some very strange results when cross-compiling. I'm not
sure what the ideal answer is, but I think this is wrong.

klcc is a installation-specific, generated Perl script, so portability
is not an issue.

To fix that I changed $OUTPUT to $OUTPUTCONTAINER in a couple of
places. I suspect something similar will be necessary for
do_playlist().

2. the GENRE and YEAR variables are not set in function
do_replaygain(), so $OUTPUTFILE gets an incomplete path, causing files
not to be found.

3. Line 1247 seems to do nothing more than setting $YEAR to the value
of $CDYEAR, whether it is filled or not (the default value is $CDYEAR
itself). I didn't modify it, since I don't know exactly what would go
there.

4. It looks like the code for munging CDDB fields, etc, and
creating filenames is repeated quite a few times times through the
script, with slight variations. Seems like a good candidate for
refactoring.

Thanks for such a great program! About a month ago I started ripping
my CD collection, and I tried quite a few rippers/encoders/taggers.
None did all I wanted, although Grip came close. I wrote a couple of
Perl scripts to hook to Grip, so I could do multiencoding, proper
munging of tags, and automatic addition of replay gain tags. But it
turned out Grip can't call a script after enconding, only after
ripping, so no replaygain. When I was almost convinced I'd have to
write my own and even had started planning what I'd code and what
modules to use, I tried abcde and discovered it did everything I
needed, and then some.

Anyway, here is a patch with the above changes (first time I submit a
patch, so be forgiving; I used diff -Naur, as the man page for patch
recommends):

Bug#349950: postfix: Stopping daemon fails if /usr is a symlink

2006-01-25 Thread Dylan Thurston
Package: postfix
Version: 2.2.8-7
Severity: normal

On my system, /usr is a symbolic link to another partition:

% ls -l /usr
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Nov 29  2003 /usr - a/usr

As a result, the init script /etc/init.d/postscript fails to
successfully stop the mail sstem. The offending test starts on line
69:

if [ -f /var/spool/postfix/pid/master.pid ]; then
pid=$(sed 's/ //g' /var/spool/postfix/pid/master.pid)
exe=$(ls -l /proc/$pid/exe 2/dev/null | sed 's/.* //')
if [ X$exe = X/usr/lib/postfix/master ]; then
RUNNING=y
fi

while the corresponding symbolic link points someplace else:

% sudo ls -l /proc/23721/exe
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 26 00:03 /proc/23721/exe -
/a/usr/lib/postfix/master

In general, that test seems quite fragile to me.

Bug#349951: CDDB protocol in config file

2006-01-25 Thread Bernardo Rechea
Package: abcde
Version: 2.3.99.2-1

I wanted to make UTF-8 my default, so I wouldn't have to specify it in
the command line every time. Looking at the code it seemed CDDBPROTO
is the variable to use. So I added

CDDBPROTO=6

to the configuration file, and it works. Can a section for that
variable be added permanently to the config file, or is what I did not
good?

Bug#217477: --quirk

2006-01-25 Thread Daniel Burrows
On Thu, Jan 26, 2006 at 04:33:12PM +1300, Mark Robinson [EMAIL PROTECTED] was
heard to say:
 this is still borken

 piwakawaka:~# aptitude -qq update
 Expected a number after -q=, got q
 piwakawaka:~#

 which is a lie, there was no -q=

 Here's the relevant code from main.cc in aptitude-0.4.1:

 case 'q':
   if(optarg == 0)
 ++quiet;
   else
 {
   if(*optarg == '=')
 ++optarg;

   if(*optarg == 0)
 {
   fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=\n));
   return -1;
 }

   char *tmp;
   quiet = strtol(optarg, tmp, 0);

   if(*tmp != '\0')
 {
   fprintf(stderr, _(Expected a number after -q=, got
   %s\n),
   optarg);
   return -1;
 }
 }
   seen_quiet = true;
   break;

 Obviously the block dealing with the parameters needs to be defined
 contingent on the existance of the =.

  Ew.

 The -q=n syntax is anomalous, every other option uses -x value. I suggest
 that -q= be deprecated and that -qqq or -q n be encouraged instead.

  I think that would be great, and it's how things originally worked;
unfortunately, this led to user complaints (see earlier in this bug log).
And, predictably, it appears that adding a weird special case had unforseen
side effects (who woulda thunk it!)

 A side note: Attempting to compile aptitude throws up a linker error about
 not being able to find cppunit. I assume this should be added as a
 build-depends ?

  That should only happen when you run make check or do a package
build, and libcppunit-dev is a build-depends already AFAIK. Which version
are you trying to build and how?

Whoops, did I reverse the order of arguments for this string? I could
  always just reverse the order again and use positionals in the English
  translation.

 My point, which was maybe not clear, is that you probably have to use
 positional arguments in the English string...thus breaking all
 translationswhich is fine, of course, but very probably
 triggering a few dozens of l10n bug reports for updates.

  Ah, no, that's not a problem: the order of arguments is fine in
English. I suppose that the Czech idiom gives the media and drive
in the opposite order from the English one.

Bug#335424: pyzor: Issue still present

2006-01-25 Thread Christopher Sacca
Well, pretty much, the 'internal error' is just spamd's way of saying that
something went wrong. In this case a debug ('spamassassin -D –lint' or
something like it) would be really useful to me. Although I know of another
cause (besides the one that I fixed in -6) that could cause an internal error.
Per [1] it seems that an error (this is with -D --lint) such as

[26906] dbg: pyzor: got response: Traceback (most recent call last):\n
File /usr/bin/pyzor, line 4, in ?\npyzor.client.run()\n  File

'/dev/null/.pyzor'
[26906] dbg: info: leaving helper-app run mode
[26906] warn: pyzor: check failed: internal error

could happen. I'm not convinced that this is a pyzor flaw as it has to
do with pyzor not getting a valid home directory, which, to store servers
and configs, it pretty much needs. If this is the case, I think that you
should run SA under a user that has a home directory, though I could be
convinced otherwise.

Anyways, this is all mute if the home directory issue is not really your
problem. If you could get back to me with a debug log or some more
information that would be most helpful.

Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention.

 This is an intentional access control feature that is explained in the
 smbmnt man page.

But an ill-designed one; refusing to allow mounting over a directory that
you own but don't currently have write access to, when other filesystems
have no such requirement, is unnecessarily inconsistent.

as with the previous gringotts-versions with libmhash2 0.9.4a-1. Since this
is on powerpc, I guess there might be an endianness problem in the new mhash

 If you can access the file ok, then the bug title seems to be wrong?

 I assume the name is being mangled for sharing due to concerns over clients
 failing to handle the name correctly. But I'm not sure that it's for the
 benefit of /Windows/ clients in this case.

Indeed.

Using mangled name = no does not show the filename mangled anymore.

So, this is actually more a feature than a bug. I recommend closing

Bug#276419: Do we fix this in 4.0.14-4?

2006-01-25 Thread Christian Perrier
The upload of 4.0.14-4 will happen soon.

We have the opportunity of fixing this bug now. From Nicolas survey,
it does not seem likely to harm critical things (inclusing sarge to
etch upgrades, see thread back in November), so the only actions
(besides stopping to apply the 423 patch) are communication:

-publish an announcement in d-d
-include a technical document in /usr/share/doc/passwd

There was a proposal for POSIXLY_CORRECT variableI'm not deeply
convinced to add this complexity unless it proves really useful
(backword compatibility...but with what?).

If the patch that adds this is ready then we can go for it. If it
isn't and you feel it's needed, then convince me..:)

Bug#349920: gpcl: FTBFS on amd64

  Could you please try with version 2.32-1 of the package? The source is
  available at http://people.debian.org/~rafael/gpcl/

 Forgot to say: after installing it, I could almost install octave-gpc,
 but it failed because of libhdf5 (#328205). Thanks again for everything,

Bug#328205 has been fixed in version 0.1.5-5. Is this the one you are
using? At least on 1386, the octave-gpc package depends on
libhdf5-serial-1.6.4-0c2 | libhdf5-1.6.4-0c2. Do you have in your
system the libhdf5-serial-dev_1.6.4-4 package?
