Bug#354622: Using Firefox as the app name without official branding is still a trademark violation

One of the permitted changes is Porting the software to different operating
systems

I'm not sure that's what that clause really means, but one easy
example is backported security fixes. Another is just regular bug
fixes that aren't in the official releases for whatever reason.

Personally I would say that Debian packages with extra security and
bug fixes would 'exceed the quality' of the official Mozilla packages
and thus be a good example of what Community Editions are about:

It is very important that Community Editions of Firefox and
Thunderbird meet (or exceed) the quality level people have come to
associate with Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird. We need to
ensure this, but we don't want to get in people's way. So, we are
 taking an optimistic approach.

Bug#390563: No vc_new_s_context() in libvserver.*

2006-10-02 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

I do not think that upstream have really settled the development
files for this. As far as I know they do not really treat this
as an external library. They do not properly handle it with
versioning as far as I know.

This is the reason why no libvserver-dev package have been created.

That sais, I do not really have a good idea on why it is like
this. You can try with the 0.30.210-11 version that I uploaded
to unstable yesterday. It had some more things compiled in but I
do not think it has anything to do with this though.

Micah (my co maintainer may know).

I don't think it would be good, if ouput, which has been produced based

One possible problem are two users that have *differing* fonts but with

Sorry to be unclear. With shouldn't I did not mean isn't it supposed

Okay, you are right, indeed this check is already done. So we could

When I use mplayer to try to watch digital TV here in Australia, it no
longer is able to tune the channel, timing out after 30 seconds. I have
a DViCo FusionHDTV DVB-T1 (cx88 driver). This previously worked on
2.6.16-18 but no longer works on 2.6.18-1. I've downgraded for now to
the 2.6.17-9 kernel, which doesn't exhibit the problem.

I've seen some reference to potential breakage in the -rc versions of
the 2.6.18 kernel at
http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2006-September/012639.html but I'm
unsure of the current state.

Zak, that's actually part of the work I initially proposed to Steve to
fix longstanding l10n issues. Along with that work, I had a few
exchanges with Steve and we rewrote the debconf templates.

Then I posted a call for translations fixes AND new translations in

As a consequence, I propose that all this stuff is gathered together
in a single big patch for debian/po and debian/cvs.templates, plus
relevant changelog entries, which I will propose you guys in a week or

This seems more likely to be your problem. Can you post the output of the

This should list the compiz-plugins package, which contains the gconf plugin.
If it isn't listed as installed, then try installing it manually, though it

I am uploading the images i built to http://people.debian.org/

When I tried this mini.iso on a G4/533MHz QuickSilver tower with

Bug#390610: linux-patch-bootsplash: making target CONFIG-arch fails

2006-10-02 Thread 韓達耐
Package: linux-patch-bootsplash
Version: 2.6.18-1
Severity: important

Hi

2.6.17 worked flawlessly, but I get the following problem when trying
to build a 2.6.18 kernel.

After configuring with oldconfig, I run

fakeroot make-kpkg \
 --rootcmd fakeroot \
 --revision 0.10 \
 --append-to-version -tiberius \
 --added-modules fglrx,rt2x00 \
 --added-patches bootsplash \
 --config oldconfig \
 --bzimage \
 --initrd \
kernel_image modules_image

like I always do.

I then run into a problem:

== making target CONFIG-common [new prereqs: stamp-conf]==
This is kernel package version 10.059.
== making target stamp-arch-conf [new prereqs: CONFIG-common]==

== making target CONFIG-arch [new prereqs: stamp-arch-conf]==

make[2]: *** [silentoldconfig] Fout 2
sed: -e expressie #1, teken 159: onafgemaakte `s'-opdracht
make: *** [conf.vars] Fout 1

The last message tells me that sed -e has encountered an unfinished
`s'-command. Perhaps there's a forward slash that is missing
somewhere?

If I don't add the bootsplash patch, I get to build the 2.6.18
kernel. I use the Debian Linux package linux-source-2.6.18 version
2.6.18-2.

This version of OpenSSH has a considerably changed configuration file from
the version shipped in Debian 'Potato', which you appear to be upgrading
from. This package can now generate a new configuration file (/etc/ssh/sshd.

any customisations you made with the old version.

Opsætningsfilen i denne version af OpenSSH er ændret betydeligt i forhold til

Denne pakke kan nu generere en ny opsætningsfil (/etc/ssh/sshd.config), som

Please note that this new configuration file will set the value of
'PermitRootLogin' to yes (meaning that anyone knowing the root password can
ssh directly in as root). It is the opinion of the maintainer that this is
the correct default (see README.Debian for more details), but you can always
edit sshd_config and set it to no if you wish.
msgstr
Bemærk at den nye opsætningsfil vil sætte værdien af 'PermitRootLogin' til
ja (som betyder at alle der kender roots adgangskode, kan tilgå maskinen via

standardværdi (se README.Debian for flere detaljer), men du kan altid

Bug#390614: libavahi-compat-libdnssd1: please change Depends on libnss-mdns into Recomends

2006-10-02 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: libavahi-compat-libdnssd1
Severity: important
Version: 0.6.13-3
Tags: patch

Hi,

in last upload, libavahi-compat-libdnssd1 have started to depend on
libnss-mdns. It breaks GNU/kFreeBSD, as there is no libnss-mdns.

It prevents i.e. building of kdebase :-(

Please, could you change Depends into Recomends.
It would prefectly describe real situation, as libavahi-compat-libdnssd1
can be used without libnss-mdns in unusual installations.

From Debian Policy Manual 7.2:

Recommends
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.
The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together
with this one in all but unusual installations.

Thanks in advance

Petr

Bug#384325: Patch for Bug#384325: libqt3-mt: Floating point exception in QPaintDevice::~QPaintDevice

Yes. I wonder if the reason setting the DPI in Qt doesn't result in
reasonable fonts is because it isn't really Qt that controls font
rendering in most circumstances. It's fontconfig/freetype, the basic
font rendering bits of Linux. That would explain why while I could fix
the crash, I couldn't force fonts to render sensibly. Fontconfig still
was trying to render based on the following information:

$ xdpyinfo | grep -A1 dimen
  dimensions:1280x1024 pixels (0x0 millimeters)
  resolution:-2147483648x-2147483648 dots per inch

... that you provided to me in your previous message. Note the
ridiculous dots per inch values. Hence the tiny fonts.

If my understanding of the situation is correct, then there is no point
in patching Qt. Users will simply have to provide monitor dimensions in
xorg.conf if they use the fglrx driver. A pain, but at least it works.

Thank you for spending time on it.
If it can't be solved within Qt (and, IMHO, waiting for ATI to solve it
is not credible) it should be highlighted somewhere, maybe a bugreport
on fglrx driver package ?

Bug#390512: cvs: [INTL:sv] Swedish debconf templates translation

2006-10-02 Thread Zak B. Elep

Hi Christian! =)

On 10/2/06, Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Zak, that's actually part of the work I initially proposed to Steve to
fix longstanding l10n issues. Along with that work, I had a few
exchanges with Steve and we rewrote the debconf templates.

Ah, so that means the debconf templates in the co-maintained SVN
repository haven't been updated to the new rewrite? My bad...

/me is the left hand that doesn't know what the right hand is doing... :/

As a consequence, I propose that all this stuff is gathered together
in a single big patch for debian/po and debian/cvs.templates, plus
relevant changelog entries, which I will propose you guys in a week or
so.

FWIW I've already comitted the Swedish and Danish POs to the
repository, along with changelog notes for -5. They do look fine to
me, although of course I'm not an expert at either language. :P

At any rate, I'm glad that the templates have gotten a rewrite; I'd
treat you all to some beer if you're all only nearby, hehe. Thanks
for rocking CVS!

Cheers,

Zakame

Normal, your aty rage128 is not a radeon, and is thus using whatever driver is

Can you check which graphic driver you are using, and submit a modification of

Bug#390590: /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf is updated for every new release

 hello,

unfortunately, a version information in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf is
updated every new upstream release. i consider this as a bug as it
causes dpkg to ask for a configfile update even if no content changed.

if you have local changes in the configuration, this is very annoying.

maybe you can convince upstream to remove the release version from the
 configuration file.

Hi!

Is there a way to make dpkg ignore this comment in the configuration
file? For some other installations/distributions I depend on the version
number being part of the config file

Bug#390617: librrd2: depending on ttf-dejavu (= 2.1-1) bring me pain

2006-10-02 Thread Alexander Gerasiov
Package: librrd2
Version: 1.2.11-0.6
Severity: normal

Hi there.
librrd2 depends on ttf-dejavu fonts. I don't know do thes fonts
hardcored inside or not, but at my point of view this dependence is
wrong.
I already have nice ttf fonts installed (that's not dejavu, but
microsoft ones). Why not to use them? If I install dejavu also, they
became default fonts (in gtk at least, don't know about qt). So I had to
manually override font order to fix this. I dont like it.

How to fix this probjem?
1st way: depend on ttf-dejavu | msttcorefonts (and some other, see
fontconfig-config package as example)
2nd way (wich I like more): change Depends to Recommend.

The seperate file is only for when *you* are running as root and
bind'ing with the rootdn. Regular users *must* be able to connect to
LDAP to do NSS lookups. If your LDAP server requires a password then
you need to provide it somewhere the user can get it. If you don't want
that then allow anonymous binds in the server.

A workaround is to run nscd to proxy user requests through a root-owned
process, and that works just fine if libnss-ldap.conf is 600.

I agree with everything you say.

What I don't understand is why libnss-ldap.conf *needs* to be 0600 at
all. A big warning in the file (todo) and debconf placing password in
a separate file (done) should be enough, IMHO.

Bug#390618: gedit: seems to consider only the initial permissions on a file

2006-10-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: gedit
Version: 2.14.4-2
Severity: normal

Using Gedit, the user opens a read-only file, then makes it writable,
but then has to re-open the document in order to write to it. Gedit is
only interested in the initial state of the file, which is an annoying
bug, minor as it may seem to someone else. Gedit, however forgets this
initial-state operation when the user closes the application, at which
it gives a warning that the document has not been closed, and is able
to save that document. It's a mess. This is a bit related to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=382066.

Bug#390621: Description does not say what it does

2006-10-02 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: graphthing
Version: 1.3.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

thanks for packaging graphthing, I look forward to trying it.

The description, however, does not say what I can do with it. The
website itself is burying this information halfway down in the page.
I'll try to summarise it:

These are some of the features of GraphThing:
 .
  * Adding, deleting and moving of vertices and edges.
  * Loading and saving of graphs.
  * Graph complements, induced subgraphs and line graphs.
  * Quick creation of many common graphs (complete, cycle, null, star, etc.).
  * Determination of shortest path, connectivity and Eulericity.
  * BFS, DFS and Minimum Spanning Tree.
  * Adjacency matrix (including exponents) and degree sequence.
  * Chromatic polynomial and chromatic number.
  * Network algorithms: Maximum network flow.
 .
These graphs are mathematical objects (look at Wikipedia's
 introduction to Graph Theory) that describe relationships between sets;
they are not 2D plots, charts, or anything similar to that.
 .
At the moment, only simple graphs and digraphs are supported; that is,
no multiple edges or loops. Other than this, GraphThing can handle
 every type of graph.
 .
 Homepage: http://graph.seul.org/

Ciao,

Enrico

Sorry, your bug report has nothing to do with CUPS-PDF. Rather, it is an
expression of a disagreement with the way DPKG handles configurations. I'm
thus reassigning this to the DPKG maintainers. Please take your concerns
to them.

maybe you can convince upstream to remove the release version from the

Bug#390629: parenscript: Script to produce documentation produces buggy LaTeX code

2006-10-02 Thread Frank Küster
Package: parenscript
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi Luca,

I just found that docs/pbook.py produces buggy LaTeX code, a faulty
check for PDF output. It doesn't show up if you only try to create PDF.

But if you want to go the traditional route and produce dvi files (and
from that PostScript and maybe finally again PDF), this will fail and
still produce PDF. The script itself doesn't do that (or rather, it
does that in fact but ignores the output in this first run), but it's
still an uglyness.

Moreover, it's completely useless, because the only package that uses
the information, graphicx, will detect the output format itself (and in
a proper way). Therefore, the patch is simple:

Bug#379185: Bug #379185: Failure to find kernel version

2006-10-02 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I got a similar error as [EMAIL PROTECTED] when using make-kpkg. The only
difference was that make seemed to open a file called
--no-print-directory (I have kernel-package 10.060).
I found out that it is caused by a faulty version_vars.mk file: the -f
option there is placed directly before the --no-print-directory option.
The result is that the version variables in there are not properly defined.
Attached is a patch that puts the -f option in the right place, which
makes my kernel compile again.

Regards,
  Bsatain

Inkscape draws it correctly, but if you try to move red, green or blue
 square it will become BIG.

Open built-int XML editor and observe element attributes. Inkscape
add attributes x, y, width and height, and modify value
of transform ('scale' 'translate' become single 'matrix').

Problem: width has incorrect value, and transformation matrix
represents wrong translation (too small in this case). If you
continue moving such deformed element, scale factor disappear.

Thanks for your report. I cut'n'pasted your sample into the attached
file and tried to reproduce the behaviour you described on powerpc and
amd64 unstable machines but to no avail. I could move and resize all
squares without making them change their size.
Do you have some additional info how to reproduce this? Does inkscape
spit out some messages in the console window if you start it from the
command line? Perhaps a screen shot to help my imagination even if I
think that what you describe is quite clear?

With best wishes,

Wolfi

   Hi,

I have prepared a NMU for these two bugs. As I am no DD I can not do the
upload myself, but here is the patch anyway.

   Greetings Arjan

#!/bin/sh -e

   -if [ $1 = purge -o $1 = remove ]
   +if [ $1 = remove -o $1 = disappear ]

Don't do that. Removing of the user should be done on purge only, not
  on a simple removing.

Which user? The postrm script does not remove any user It removes the
registration of proftpd from inetd when the package is removed or
completely overwritten. As in both cases proftpd is not installed
anymore the entry can be removed from inetd's configuration as inetd can
not start proftpd at that moment.

I confused one issue with another, my fault...

Also pcap support should be better managed at upstream
level and is a security concerned issue, did you try the patch not only for
  building up,
  but in run-time too?

 No I don't have a GNU/kFreeBSD machine, so I have not tested this. I
used ntp as example package for this, which also can not use libcap on
non linux architectures. I thought this was a simple patch to include in
the NMU, but if you think it is inappropriate feel free to upload a new
version which calls me stupid and removes this part again ;-)

BTW, a proper NMU is allowed only for RC bugs, else
patches to merge to the maintainer tree suffice.

I am sorry, I did not want to step on your toes. It seemed like a simple
patch to included as an upload was done anyway.

Sorry, i missed the RC bugs in my incoming mail due some stupid anti-spam
filter around, you're welcome. I would check the kFreeBSD thing with
upstream for safety. Other changes are ok AFAIK but I need to merge
them with my tree for other issues...

Hello,

while 2.1.2-1 apparently fixes bug 389404 + 389794, 2d graphic operations
are quite slow with it compared to 2.0.2.3-4 of the driver.

glxgears shows the gears again but it is flickering a lot... After
quitting it it shows the following message:

I tried 6.5.0.cvs.20060524-1.1 of libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx,
libglu1-mesa and then I updated 6.5.1.

Scrolling in Konqueror, KMail, Firefox and other apps is quite slow.
Scrolling in Konsole is still fast. Scrolling was really fast with
version 2.0.2.3-4 of the driver

My xorg.conf Driver section:

I also tried without AccelMethod exa, without DynamicClocks and without

 Michal,
if you have got troubles finding a sponsor (e.g. because Anibal is
busy) just send me a mail.

It looks like it is this case, at least I didn't get reply from him so
far. I didn't yet try mentors list as I was anyway offline last week.
So you're welcome if you can upload it.

Bug#362216: Package available

James Westby [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I already sent it there twice, I only wanted to update bug status that
the package is available.

I am ignorant about this package, could you tell me whether the source
 is included?

What do you exactly mean by source? Packaging only moves dictionary to
correct location. The source tarball only contains those dictionaries.

BTW: I'm also the one who provides dictionary data [1] which are
converted from CSV data available from the project [2].

[1]: http://cihar.com/software/slovnik/
[2]: http://slovnik.zcu.cz/

You should add a copyright and license statement about the Debian
 packaging to debian/copyright. See
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html

You don't need the configure target in debian/rules.

Thanks for suggestions, I will fix those with next upload (today or
tomorrow).

2006-10-02 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: xserver-xorg-video-savage
Version: 1:2.1.2-1

Hello,

while 2.1.2-1 apparently fixes bug 389404 + 389794, xorgs hangs
on logout when used with this driver. KDE applications are closed,
the desktop vanishes, the mousepointer vanishes and then it hangs.

No Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and not Ctrl-Alt-F1 yields any result. The machine
is still pingable.

This hang only happens on regular logout. Stopping xorg with
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace still seems to work.

Allright! Well if you want to keep this package in etch a new version is
needed. Maybe I will try to package a new version.

I see your requests for sponsorship going unheard. This is really
frustrating! We need to get you into Debian. Who should I email?

Well I am waiting for the DAM [1] to approve my application and create
my account. Feel free to email Jörg, but I don't think that will make it
go faster :(

I haven't had much time for packages lately with Cabal and Haskell

Well that is also important stuff of course.

Feel free to send me reminders up-to-date list of things for me to

Bug#390634: caudium: source code missing for lucene-1.2.jar?

2006-10-02 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: caudium

I just noticed that the caudium package includes

Bug#390129: Rebuilding only provided formats - will that work? (was: Bug#390129: tetex-base: Does not properly call update-* scripts)

Hi Ralf, hi Norbert,

A general point: Recently I was thinking whether it would make sense to
change the behaviour of 'format providing packages' such as tetex-base
or jadetex: Right now they regerenate all formats, even though this is
not necessary. Why not have them regenerate only those formats they
actually provide? A simple way to achieve this would be to call

 fmtutil-sys --all --cnffile /etc/texmf/fmt.d/foo.cnf

That way these packages would be more self contained and could not get
as easily broken by other packages. Of course, the 'binary providing
packages' such as tetex-bin would still have to regenerate all formats.

 I think that's a very good idea.
[...]
Should we just go on and let tetex-base's and tetex-extra's postinst
 call

 create_tetex_formats --all --cnffile /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf

I think that would help, too, at least with jadetex and friends.

There's an other potential problem here. If a new tetex-base contains a
change that requires the LaTeX formats to be regenerated, it might well
be that other formats that preload LaTeX during format generation also
need to be rebuilt. The same then is also true for a TeXlive based
system.

But somehow this seems to be a more general problem. Even a format that
does not preload LaTeX might become unusable, and it might even require
configuration file changes before it works again. Just imagine that it
turns out that some hyphenation patterns are non-free and need to be
removed. A package that keeps its own language.dat won't work any
more.

So should we simply ignore such potential problems, and go on with using
--cnffile during format renewal? Or rather try to recreate all of them?
We should also consider what the effect would have been for jadetex or
xmltex users on the previous frequent bugs if we had already only
regenerated our own formats. Hm, I guess they mostly were related to
changes in tetex-bin, weren't they?

Bug#390633: console-data: Romanian keyboard standard implemented - please use this

2006-10-02 Thread Eddy Petrișor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Subject: Romanian keyboard standard implemented - please use this
Package: console-data
Version: 2:1.0-3
Severity: important
Tags: patch l10n

Hello,

Notes: the severity is important since it is important that Etch is
released with this bug fixed. I am sorry about the length of the mail,
but I am forced to explain this very well to be understood correctly.

WHY THIS IS BUG:

The current Romanian keyboard layout is broken because of several
reasons:
- - does not respect the legalized Romanian layout standard
  SR 13992:2004[0][1]
- - does not provide Romanian quotation marks and there is no way to
generate correct t/T/s/S comma characters, and the correct quotation
  marks
- - does not generate the character â (a with circumflex accent) when
  pressing AltGr+q

WHAT IS PROVIDED:

The attached files implement the standard (legalized) Romanian layout
for the console. It was generated with ckbcomp (from the xkb layout,
which already respects the standard) and was slightly modified (but
still respects the standard - explanations below).

WHY THE ATTACHMENTS ARE A FIX:

The attached files respect the afore mentioned standard which addresses
all the issues of current layout and even more.

WHY THERE ARE TWO FILES:

The reason is that in Romanian, the correct diacritics for ț/Ț
(t/T comma) and ș/Ș (s/S comma) are the ones with a comma below them
(unicode points U021B,U021A,U0219,U0218), but there was a huge
misunderstanding related to the correct characters and ţ/ţ
(t/T cedilla) and ş/Ş (s cedilla), thanks to Microsoft, and Romanian
ended up in all encoding categorization as being representable in
ISO-8859-2, which is incorrect. Even more, the quotation marks „” «» are
not all representable in ISO-8859-2. The only encoding capable of
encoding all the needed characters is UTF-8 (while ISO-8859-16 was an
attempt from Microsoft to fix this issue).

So, the ro-basic file implements the incorrect (with cedilla) layout,
while the ro-basic-comma implements the correct (with comma) layout.

In spite of the incorrectly generated characters by the basic layout,
this is currently more widely used; also the incorrect diacritics for
t/T/s/S comma are more widely used in translations, but we are in the
course of transitioning to the correct ones, so it is very important for
us to have both of these layouts present so that Etch systems will be
able to generate correct diacritics[*].

HOW TO FIX:

I suggest replacing the current Standard Romanian console layout with
the ro-basic one (and keeping the name Standard), since it *doesn't*
introduce any incompatible changes, and is consistent with the current
layout name used both in X and in Windows; the ro-basic-comma should be
added as an alternative with the name comma, also for consistency
reasons with X and Windows implementations of the standard.

Note: the correct names are default (actually is name-less) (or
Programmers) for the basic layout - which should supersede the
current default layout for the console - and comma (or Programmers
(comma)) for the ro-basic-comma file.

NON-STANDARD (COMPATIBLE) CHANGES:

For the next part, I have to make some introductory remarks related to
Apple laptop keyboards:
- - there aren't 2 Alt keys, but pressing Fn+Alt generates actually AltGr.
- - the numeric keypad is mapped over the { 6789uiopjkl;./ } keys and is
accesible if Fn+{ any of the mentioned keys } is pressed (e.g.: Fn+i
  generates KP_5, Fn+period generates KP_period)
- - pressing Fn+Alt+i generates (internally, at hardware level) AltGr+KP_5
  not AltGr+i; Fn+Alt+. generates AltGr+KP_period.

Thus, I have done also an addition (this is an extension which does not
contradict the standard), in order to be able to type on Apple laptop
keyboards the character î/Î and » (closing alternative quotation mark).
The attached keyboard layout files generate Î/î and » if the
user presses AltGr+KP_5 and AltGr+KP_period respectively since their
positions on the Apple keyboard corresponds to regular AltGr+I and
AltGr+period and because is not expected that any user of a regular
keyboard to be bothered by this change (I don't even know who would think
to press AltGr+KP_5 or AltGr+KP_period on a regular keyboard :-) ).

TIA and I hope I'll see these changes in Etch :-)

[*] Note that the usage of the correct diacritics in official documents
is on course to be voted in the Romanian Parliament and is currently a
pending law project, so this is of high importance for Romanian users.

Normal, your aty rage128 is not a radeon, and is thus using whatever driver is
using the aty rage128, and thus the white-on-white problem is not gone for
you.

Can you check which graphic driver you are using, and submit a modification of
attilio's patch so you also disable the aty-rage128 driver ?

Rick, IIUC your mails you should have three different PPC boxes for testing

*Powermac3,5
This is the model already listed in the PPC survey wiki page with you as
tester.
It's currently marked red (nogo), but your last test was not performed
with Sven's patched ISO: could you please try again booting Sven's ISO
and update results in the PPC survey page in the case of a success?

*PowerMac3,4
This is not listed yet in the PPC survey page yet, but you said you
managed to make it work with a littke tweaking, right?

Could you report in PPC survey page how you got this working?
In the case you want to disable the ATI128 directfb accelerator, you'll
have to add to your directfbrc file

disable-module=ati128

*PowerMac1,1

This is not listed yet in the PPC database: i don't know what DFB
accelerator (if any) matches that video chip, but you may try this

-boot textual
-rm -rf /usr/lib/directfb-0.9.25/gfxdrivers
-try the graphical drontend with both linux_input enabled and disabled

For all the three test machines you own, could you please add/update
corresponding entries to the PPC database in the wikipage?
This will be useful to know what works and what don't and so need
further debugging.

thanks a lot

Bug#390627: vzctl - FTBFS: error: #error no syscall for this arch

Hi

It is actually intentional. This architecture is not supported by
vzctl as it have no syscall for it. So that is why it is not buildable.

I'll write a new but for this to ftp.debian.org requesting all non-buildable
architectures to be removed, and lowering the severity of this to wishlist.

Bug#390627: Remove some architectures for vzctl

2006-10-02 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi

I'm writing this to request the removal of some built packages
from unstable/testing.

Remove vzctl for the following architectures:
* s390
* powerpc
* arm
* sparc
* mips
* mipsel
* alpha

The reason for this removal is that they are not supported by vzctl
as there is no syscall in the kernel. A check for this has been
introduced in the latest version (which is good) and thus they
fail now and not before.

# 3.0.11-1 (s390) (latest build at Oct 1 17:39: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (amd64) (latest build at Oct 1 21:10: maybe-successful)
# 3.0.11-1 (powerpc) (latest build at Oct 1 17:44: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (arm) (latest build at Oct 1 22:17: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (sparc) (latest build at Oct 2 00:31: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (ia64) (latest build at Oct 2 00:31: maybe-successful)
# 3.0.11-1 (mips) (latest build at Oct 2 03:41: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (mipsel) (latest build at Oct 2 03:33: maybe-failed)
# 3.0.11-1 (alpha) (latest build at Oct 2 05:10: maybe-failed)

This bug is related to #390627.

 Dear Gerrit,

Thanks a lot for writing runit and packaging it for debian. Here is an
issue I found while trying to migrate services to runit: some services
such as dbus-1 need to do some cleanup *before* the daemon exits,
which cannot be done with the current version of runit. Unfortunately,
there is currently no way to cleanup before the daemon is killed. I
would advocate for the little following change to runsv: when a
service is requested to stop, instead of killing the daemon then
running the finish script, it would instead run a user-provided
script named 'stop' with the pid of the daemon as an argument, then
run the finish script. If no 'stop' script exists, runsv would then
act as currently, or would run a standard 'stop' script (which would
let you remove the code killing the daemon from runsv itself).

Hi Judicael,

please see the runsv(8) man page, chapter CUSTOMIZE CONTROL. Does
creating a control/t script do what you want?

while 2.1.2-1 apparently fixes bug 389404 + 389794, xorgs hangs
on logout when used with this driver.

Then this seems to be a problem with a server reset and the subsequent
second server generation, and you should be able to work around it by
configuring the display manager to always restart the X server on
logout.

That's non-trivial, though, since the user can alter SYSTEXMF not only
via an environment variable but also via a personal texmf.cnf file. And
*all* texmf.cnf files that are found will be read. Getting the personal
file found could be achieved by setting TEXMFCNF or placing a copy of
kpsewhich in HOME/bin, so that HOME/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf would get
found via the SELFAUTOPARENT feature. So besides SYSTEXMF one would also
have to control TEXMFCNF and PATH.

One could also try to extract SYSTEXMF from the systemwide texmf.cnf
file and set an appropriate environment variable, since that would take
precedence. But one would have to define that in terms of actual
directories, not variables like TEXMFMAIN etc, since a malicious user
could redefine those, too.

Given all these possibilities, I am quite happy that the possbile

Bug#234106: Suggested Resolution: New Service Name

2006-10-02 Thread Gerrit Pape
On Fri, Sep 29, 2006 at 09:33:18AM +0200, Toni Mueller wrote:
 Hello,

Hi Toni,

I suggest the following resolution of the problem:

If there's an SV entry in /etc/inittab, the user probably already had
daemontools in use. Since the run scripts require (small?)
modifications to be compatible with runit, in this case having a second
/etc/inittab entry would be appropriate to facilitate soft migration.
Since the default run directory for daemontools is /service (the FHS
version after daemontools-installer uses /var/lib/svscan), there is no
collision with what the runit package installs at this point. So, just
pick a different service name and figure out which entry belongs to
runit by checking for runsvdir vs. svscan.

 Suggested service name: SVR.

The advantage for this method is that it allows both easy migration to
'SV' once daemontools are dropped, and that it also doesn't require any
 of the debconf stuff.

Hmm, currently the installation of the runit-run package does the
migration from /service/ to /var/service/ automatically, and I've found
users being pleased with that. Does this conflict?

FWIW, people who use daemontools are supposed to know what they are
doing since integration with Debian is rather poor, imho. So, they will
figure out by themselves when and what to do with /etc/inittab, w/o
 requiring massive tool chain support.

Yes, but that's how it currently is. If daemontools is installed, the
installation stops with an error, so that the user can fix it up, and
disable daemontools before installing runit again.

Thanks, Gerrit.

Bug#390638: focus issues

2006-10-02 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: icewm
Version: 1.2.28-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've got the following focus-related settings in my
~/.icewm/preferences:

ClickToFocus = 0
RaiseOnFocus = 0
FocusOnMap = 0
FocusOnAppRaise = 0
RaiseOnClickClient = 0

Which used to work the way I want it -- i.e., newly mapped windows get
on top of all others, but do not receive focus.

Since the last update, this has changed; new windows are mapped on the
bottom of the stack. This is true for all types of windows -- modal
dialogs, windows that grab the keyboard such as ssh-askpass, full-screen
xv windows, and normal windows. Needless to say, this behaviour is
very annoying (I find myself often waiting for a window to appear, only
to notice in the taskbar that it's been there all the time); I do not
see any option in the documentation to switch this behaviour off.

Bug#387851: network-manager: DHCP server never called when making wifi-connections

2006-10-02 Thread Michael Biebl
Michael Rasmussen wrote:
Forgot to mentione that it also works with D-Link DWL 2000AP+

Doing some research gave this possible solution:
All AP which is working does not support WPA2.

 Could that be the reason?

What type of encryption do you have setup on your WLAN routers
(wep/wpa/wpa2)? When nm-applet/knetworkmanger prompts you for the key,
is the correct encryption selected/available?

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#389325: suspend2-userui_0.6.4-1(hppa/unstable): FTBFS: missing include

2006-10-02 Thread Thomas Schoepf
tag 389325 +help
thanks

Hello,

it seems that the call to ioperm(), which is not available on hppa, is the
culprit. Glibc on hppa does not offer a sys/io.h header file.

Is there a way to write suspend2-userui without using ioperm()? I don't know
whether there's a portable replacement.

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#390508: provide updated documentation (new features and changes of version 3.0 are not documented)

2006-10-02 Thread Thomas Lange

Thomas, you could help others to help
you, by providing a list (in the wiki?) of what parts are missing.
All user visible changes are described in NEWS.Debian. You could start
using this list.

I think I'm a little bit blind in doing the review of my own documentation.
So I hope to get some detailed infos which parts should be improved or
which information is missing or not well described.

Patches are always welcome. Please do not write a huge bug patch for
the documentation, but write small patches for each section or
paragraph. Small patches are better to read an include into the
documentation.

If someone likes to help improving the documentation, please contact
me before so we can coordinate this work.

Bug#390504: FAI_CONFIGDIR is ignored

What is the solution to fix it, then? Why didn't you document it here?

Then, it's not trivial to work around for people who don't know FAI for
years, as you do. Please tr to imagine.

And a program hanging with an error is very bad usability, and a bad
user experience - people don't know if they have to wait for some longer
time, or just hit ctrl-c.

Please ask a usability expert if you don't believe me.
