I think that it's more likely a libsdl-erlang bug or may be even a
lower level bug. Try to run demo from libsdl-erlang:

erl -s erldemo go

in /usr/share/doc/libsdl-erlang/examples directory.

erm, in ubuntu it presents you a debconf warning with the text vagrant
pointed out from the package description and fails gracefully, i dont
know why it doesnt do that in debian, did you by chance play with the
 debconf priorities ?

I did, yes, since piuparts requires this. The debconf warning is
priority high. critical might be more suitable.

It would also be a good idea to just display something to stdout (using
echo), so this would be displayed even with the noninteractive frontend.

Additionnally, it would be great if there was a noninteractive-like
debconf frontend that would display what is being answered
automatically. I'll file a wishlist bug.

Thank you for your time, and sorry for the noise :)

Bug#398638: w3c-markup-validator: postinst fails

2006-11-15 Thread Frederic Schutz
So I have installed piuparts and have done several attempts at testing
the package with a bit of debugging.

I got two kind of failures. One of them seems to happen if postinst is
not able to restart the web server; in this case, the script

  . /usr/share/wwwconfig-common/restart.sh

is called from postinst but seem to die, causing the error.

In other cases (both on my machine and on a remote piuparts service),
w3c-markup-validator works well, but the deinstallation (purge) of
apache2 does not work because of broken symlinks.

I'll try to look a bit more into it.

Bug#398458: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: KVM on Debian]

2006-11-15 Thread Baruch Even
I have uploaded a first cut of the kvm packages to my personal space for
testing.

- Forwarded message from Baruch Even [EMAIL PROTECTED] -

From: Baruch Even [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: KVM kvm-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
Subject: KVM on Debian
Date: Wed, 15 Nov 2006 09:09:05 +0200

I've created the packages for Debian, for now I haven't uploaded them to
the Archive, I'l wait for the next revision to clean up some of the
packaging issues.

The instructions for now are:

Go to http://people.debian.org/~baruch/kvm and download all the *.deb
files.

apt-get install module-assistant
dpkg -i *.deb

m-a build kvm
m-a install kvm
kvm -cdrom debian-live-cd.iso -boot d

kvm is qemu with KVM support. You might need to install the headers
package for your kernel if you don't already have it. Some other time
I'll look at producing the kernel module packages for the standard
Debian kernels.

Cheers,
Baruch

The correct driver for you card is 'glint', I believe. Could you try

Bug#398707: debconf: noninteractive frontend should display questions being asked

2006-11-15 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: debconf
Version: 1.5.8
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I use the noninteractive debconf frontend during rebuilds or piuparts
tests of the archive. However, sometimes, this lead to false positives,
or makes the logs harder to understand.

One example of that is bug #398630 against ltsp-client, which displays
a warning using db_input saying this should not be installed on a
regular machine. With the noninteractive frontend, this message is not
unseen.

It would be great if the noninteractive frontend could optionnally
display questions being asked and the answer choosen to stdout.

I would like to work on fixing that ; any directions on how this should
be implemented ? different frontend ? inside noninteractive ? how should
the user decide if he wants the verbose output ?

Thank you,

  1. debian installer asks at which harddisk he should install debian

  2. debian installer reminds me that two partitions do not have a

I don't known if that conflicts the previous setting, I suggest to
 comment it out.

  # Or provide a recipe of your own...

  # If you have a way to get a recipe file into the d-i environment,

use_filesystem{ } filesystem{ ext3 }\
. \
1 6000 10 ext3 \
method{ keep } format{ }\

Looks fine to me, but as it doesn't work, I would try:

1024 5000 1024 ext3 \

1 6000 10 ext3 \

I tried notifying you. I normally use @packages.debian.org aliases,

mails, I started using @packages.qa.debian.org aliases instead. You
can grab the mbox of this bug and see for yourself the X-Debbugs-Cc of

Unfortunately, I just browsed the PTS documentation, and saw that I did
not set the X-PTS-Approved headers as required by these addresses.
I'll go setup my MUA to do so, but I doubt that debbugs will ever do
this, so I'll mention this to the PTS maintainer, in case it would be
possible to add a rule allowing debbugs to spam the PTS.

I'm not downgrading the severity of this bug now to prevent transition
of python-defaults to testing before a python-support with the
 workaround enters testing.

What use case do you have in mind where adding extra users after the

I occasionally set up a linux box for relatives or friends where you
usually have between 2 and 5 users and while they're used to be able to
define several users when eg installing XP this is not yet possible with
d-i and when I set up the users cmd-line it looks to them a bit scary.
It's mere for the show effect see you can define the users during
installtion just like with XP.

Yes: for example, if I stop apache2, and start another process that
binds to port 80 (thus preventing the start of apache2), then postinst
fails when calling the script I mentioned in my previous email. I have
to look in more details at how the script is called and what it returns
(or does not return).

I am not sure what is the correct way for the script to run;
intuitively, posting should _try_ to call the apache2 restart script; if
this fails, then postinst should notice it but maybe not return an error
-- after all, the installation of the package itself went ok, and it
cannot be held responsible for other programs' failure. But maybe there
is a smarter way to handle this.

I modified piuparts so that it displays the debconf values for the

It looks correct.

If the restart of the server works ok, then indeed, this is the only error.

Bug#396631: more information

2006-11-15 Thread Peter Samuelson

Peter noted that this suggests a deeper problem with libapr, because
my kernel doesn't support sendfile64() but libapr1's configure script
 decided I had it anyway.

This turns out to have been the problem. Once Branden kludged apr not
to detect sendfile64, his problems seem to have gone away. (Well,
Firefox was still doing something funny but that may be unrelated.)

This bug should be reassigned to 'libapr1' but I'll leave it here for
now since people will be looking for it under apache2. It appears that
switching apr to runtime detection of sendfile64 is the way to go, as
just disabling it might have adverse effects on people who serve DVD
images over gigabit ethernet. (Regular sendfile won't go past the 2GB
ceiling, or so it _appears_.)

Hoping (but not promising) to get a tested patch into apr in the next
few hours,
Peter

Actually, I:
(1) started to file bugs for all piuparts failures. That's when I filed
  this bug.
(2) decided that it was really too much work, and changed my environment
to detect failures that happen even when important required packages
are not removed (systraq doesn't fail in this case)
(3) reported the failures found in (2)
(4) mailed d-qa@ and d-release@ with a list of packages that fail due to
problems with important/required packages.

In ntp.postrm, the call to deluser is protected like this:
deluser --system --quiet ntp || true
ntp-simple doesn't have a postrm.

openssh-server brings very bad news. piuparts reports a problem with
broken symlinks after the installation (which went fine), and then
exists. I ignore broken symlinks problems. But the problem is that it
doesn't test removal/purge. So it means that I still have a lot of
packages to test, with a lot of potential RC bugs. Arg!

Thank you for pointing this.

Bug#395493: Can't send messages to list

Please not the smtlib.py is the one given to me and smtlib.py.1 is
the original one causing the problem.

Your diff and the smtplib.py (the file you refer to above as
smtplib.py.1) you posted to the bug report confirm that this file is
essentially unchanged from the Python 2.3 base smtplib.py.

Therefore, I have to conclude that the symptom you see when you put
this in the Python library is due to the debug writes being to stdout
 instead of stderr.

Thus, I think you still have the added

 self.__conn.set_debuglevel(1)

line in SMTPDirect.py. I think if you remove this line and then put
the original smtplib.py back in the python library (and to be sure,
remove the smtplib.pyc and smtplib.pyo to force a recompile),
Mailman will continue to send OK.

Lukasz, please either confirm or inform that prediction, which I would
tend to agree with. If it is true, I can close the bug.

Could you give a somewhat stronger rationale than just it would be nice?
What use case do you have in mind where adding extra users after the
reboot into the installed system is not sufficient?

I occasionally set up a linux box for relatives or friends where you
usually have between 2 and 5 users and while they're used to be able to
define several users when eg installing XP this is not yet possible with
d-i and when I set up the users cmd-line it looks to them a bit scary.
It's mere for the show effect see you can define the users during
installtion just like with XP.

yours Martin

I suppose those users only used GUI on XP, and in that case GNOME and
KDE sure have facilities for that. It would still be a nice feature
though.

Bug#398684: mailman: Hostname settings are ignored when generating admin emails

Have you created the list before setting DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST and/or
DEFAULT_URL_HOST correctly? In this case, you need to call:

 /var/lib/mailman/bin/withlist -l -r fix_url ${LISTNAME}

Else, please do the following:

/var/lib/mailman/bin/withlist -i ${LISTNAME}
m.getListAddress('request')
m.GetListEmail()
m.GetRequestEmail()
m.internal_name()
m.host_name
m.GetConfirmEmail(foo)

What are the answers?

Bug#389702: krb5-config --cflags gssapi should give -I'/usr/include/gssapi'

thanks

My patch to MIT Kerberos to install a /usr/include/gssapi.h header that
just includes gssapi/gssapi.h, so that one can use gssapi.h with both
flavors of Kerberos, has been committed and pulled up for the upcoming 1.6
release.

MIT Kerberos is priority standard and hence I'm treating it as basically
frozen for etch at this point, but this modification will be put in
shortly after etch (probably by the expedient of packaging 1.6).

Hi,

`po4a-gettextize --help-format' outputs a following list:

List of valid formats:

  - man: Good old manual page format.
  - pod: Perl Online Documentation format.

  - texinfo: The info page format.

However, at least an `xml' option is lacking. Since I don't know
which of formats are mature enough to be written here, I cannot
provide a patch. Could you please update correspoinding subroutine
list in lib/Locale/Po4a/Chooser.pm?

Bug#397214: overwrites values in /etc/uswsusp.conf

2006-11-15 Thread Tim Dijkstra

On Tue, 14 Nov 2006 23:16:03 + (GMT)
Matthew Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

For more detail, what actually happens is that the config file is
regenerated on upgrade from the original debconf questions.

This is not true. It is regenerated from what is in the config file
and any new answers. If you read the code carefully you see that it
fills all the question with the values from the file. (except for
splash, which is the real bug)

 b. several of the questions are not asked by debconf because of their
priority. It's not immediately obvious how these should be configured
since dpkg-reconfigure still doesn't ask them due to their debconf
 priority (in particular splash).

The priority has nothing to do with it, the splash question is not asked at
all. This is because splash was not supported yet. The current
splash only works with the bootsplash kernel patch, which isn't applied to the
debian kernel.
I added the splash question because I've written a userspace splash library
which can also be linked to uswsusp, but it isn't in debian yet.

It's not clear that the automatic generation should happen more than
once; I think it should happen only if the config file doesn't exist.

No. That way people can't use dpkg-reconfigure. Using dpkg-reconfigure is
convenient because that will also regenerate the initramfs and the encryption
keys if you asked for it.

To summarize, you bug is a different one. It sneaked in because splash was
not supposed to be supported yet, but apparently you are using a patched
kernel. The solution is very simple and is already in my svn. It will
be included in the next upload.

Bug#398615: [Kicad-devel] Bug#398615: kicad: Cannot set locales

2006-11-15 Thread Richard Burton

From: Didier Raboud [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Well.. I use fr_CH.UTF-8 normally, so it was the only one defined in
locales.
If I reconfigure locales to generate fr_CH.ISO-8859-1, it does not work,
but

with fr_FR.ISO-8859-1 (letting fr_CH.UTF-8 as default), it does work.

Ok. I had seen this problem myself, because I only had en_GB.UTF-8, so to
test with french I just installed the most basic french option in the list,
which as you have seen appears to work fine. I've now tried the one you
specified and I can confirm it doesn't work for me either.

But as with fr_CH.UTF-8 it works for each and every program, it is still a
bug

for me, as it should even work.

I agree. However it doesn't appear to be a bug in kicad, it looks like it's
a problem with wxWidgets. The code used in Kicad is the same regardless of
the language selected, and it's the wx code that appears to be dependant on
your system locales. I'll have a play this evening and see if there is
anything I can do to get around this problem, but I suspect there isn't. At
least there is a workaround.

Btw, do you have any other programs installed that use wx that you can
switch into french with only fr_CH locale available?

Richard.

Bug#398163: Sorry, my regexp was wrong a bit

Bug#398718: exim4: Please build with sqlite

2006-11-15 Thread Adrian Phillips

Package: exim4-daemon-heavy
Version: 4.50-8sarge2
Severity: wishlist

Good day,

First a thank you for all the work that you, the maintainers, have put
into the Debian exim packages.

Would it be possible to get exim4-daemon-heavy built with sqlite ?
Some of the solutions for various problems posted on the exim-user
list make good use of sqlite and its a useful non-daemon database
solution (a daemon based database is something I personally wish to
avoid).

I had a look around for a previous discussion about adding sqlite in
the package and didn't spot any, but I apologise in advance if I
missed this.

Sincerely,

Adrian Phillips

Check the apache2 source from sarge, specifically the patch in to-review,
named 024_largefiles_debian_hacks, it was meant to work around this
breakage way back when I first did LFS in apache2, and should likely do
the job just as well today as it did then.

It seems like the cure to the original bug was to remove the dependency on
libgmp3. However, without any libgmp3, maxima refuses to start:

   maxima
  /usr/lib/maxima/5.10.0/binary-gcl/maxima: \
error while loading shared libraries: libgmp.so.3: \
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

As libgmp3 comes now in two mutually excluding versions (libgmp3 and
libgmp3c2, the latter is the base of libgmp-dev), it should be established
which is compatible with maxima (maybe both?) and the dependency reintroduced.

sincerely

GM

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages.

Thanks,
Simon

PS. I'm tagging this as etch-ignore since the release is so close,
but of course it would be nice to address this before the release.

Bug#398723: sox package has wrong license: should be GPL (sox-dev is correctly LGPL)

2006-11-15 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: sox
Version: 12.17.9-1
Severity: normal

/usr/share/doc/copyright says that sox is LGPL, but the LICENSE file
in sox sources (at least, at present in CVS) says differently:

sox.c, and thus SoX-the user application, is distributed under the GPL.

The remaining files that make up libst are licensed under the less
restrictive license LGPL.

Hence the currently stated license is wrong for sox but correct for
sox-dev.

Bug#398725: dependency on patch, bzip2 missing

Since ketchup calls patch and bzip2, it should depend on both. bzip2
could be added as Recommends since it's optional, but in practice, I
assume nearly all users require it.

Bug#398732: udev: adding permission rules for mobile phones use with obexftp over USB cable

2006-11-15 Thread Olivier Berger
Subject: udev: adding permission rules for mobile phones use with obexftp over
USB cable
Package: udev
Version: 0.100-2.2
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

I'd like to suggest addition of rules relating to permissions set on
USB devices when mobile phones are connected which honour the WMC
Devices (i.e. Wireless Mobile Communication devices) features.
AFAICT such phones obey OBEX over USB file transfers, synch, etc.

All these feature can be used through obexftp (or superlayers like
obexfs), using devices such as /dev/bus/usb/nnn/mmm, which are owned
by root in udev defaut setup.

I think that dialout may be a more appropriate group for such devices.

I thought that the following rule may fit :

SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,GROUP=dialout, \
 ATTRS{configuration}==WMC Device

But I aked on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list
first.

It seems (quoting Greg KH [EMAIL PROTECTED] bellow) that it may not be
a good bet.

So I'm just requesting a more specific rule fitting Sony Ericsson
K610i phones like mine :

SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,GROUP=dialout, \
 ATTRS{idVendor}==0fce, ATTRS{idProduct}==d046

If someone sees a better way on doing this, I'd be happy to test it.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to make a suggestion for addition of a rule for permissions
of WMC Devices i.e. Wireless Mobile Communication devices, in the
default rules on Debian, which would allow users in group dialout to
access their phones over OBEX on USB cables, with OpenOBEX (on devices
like /dev/bus/usb/002/012, used by obexftp) :

I think that something like :
 SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,GROUP=dialout, \
 ATTRS{configuration}==WMC Device
 would fit.

I think such a rule would be generic enough to catch all mobile
phones, and I'd prefer something like that instead of multiple rules
for each phone. Actually for mine (Sony ericsson K610i) this one also
works, but is less generic, then :
 SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,GROUP=dialout, \
 ATTRS{idVendor}==0fce, ATTRS{idProduct}==d046

I'd like to have your opinion on this idea. I'm just afraid the
 ATTRS{configuration}==WMC Device and SUBSYSTEM==usb_device would
be too much generic and cause other issues...

I think that would be too generic, and odds are the {configuration} will
not always match too.

You are going to probably have to have a lot of different rules for all
of the different phones, sorry.

Blame the manufacturers for this mess.

good luck,

greg k-h

Bug#398735: ktouch: Many keyboard layouts missing

2006-11-15 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: ktouch
Version: Many keyboard layouts missing
Severity: important

The latest upstream release, rather than fixing the allegedly broken
keyboard layouts, simply removed them from the build process (see
keyboard_DATA in ./kdeedu-3.5.5/ktouch/keyboards/Makefile.in and
corresponding ChangeLog entry).

As a result, ktouch is not usable on severak keyboard layout including
french, which is not broken in Debian's kdeedu since you applied a
specific patch (see #347850).

I suggest sending this patch upstream so that it can be reenabled.
Furthermore with etch to be released soon, I'd rather have a keyboard
layout with some wrong colors rather than nothing.

Of course, if they can be fixed in time it's even better.

Bug#397214: overwrites values in /etc/uswsusp.conf

2006-11-15 Thread Matthew Johnson

On Wed, 15 Nov 2006, Tim Dijkstra wrote:

For more detail, what actually happens is that the config file is
regenerated on upgrade from the original debconf questions.

This is not true. It is regenerated from what is in the config file
and any new answers. If you read the code carefully you see that it
fills all the question with the values from the file. (except for
splash, which is the real bug)

The postinst that I have (0.3~cvs20060928-2) does:

# If we didn't got a value, we want the hardcoded default,
# so del
if [ -z $VAL ]; then SEDCMD=$SEDCMD -e '/$PATRN/ d'

which means that if $VAL is not set in the debconf answers that line
will be removed from the config file.

b. several of the questions are not asked by debconf because of their

I am using the stock debian kernel from etch with splashy (a user-space
splash program) which is in unstable with version number 0.1.8.1-3.1

It's not clear that the automatic generation should happen more than
once; I think it should happen only if the config file doesn't exist.

No. That way people can't use dpkg-reconfigure. Using dpkg-reconfigure is
convenient because that will also regenerate the initramfs and the encryption
keys if you asked for it.

However, it should either not overwrite changes (even if you don't think
there is a suitable splash system without recompiling the kernel, I
think it ought to be supported) or should be clearer in the config file
that an upgrade will overwrite and provide _all_ the questions in
debconf.

To summarize, you bug is a different one. It sneaked in because splash was
not supposed to be supported yet, but apparently you are using a patched
kernel. The solution is very simple and is already in my svn. It will
be included in the next upload.

If it's fixed in the next upload given the rest of my comments, then
fine, but I'd like to see at least more of a warning in the config file,
and the README.Debian should _not_ say If your not happy with it you
can choose to alter it by hand or...

Sorry for hassling you on this; I'm really happy with uswsusp in
general, it works really well. The integration with splashy is also cool
(although on resume it fails to init directfb, so I don't get a splash
screen for that; that's presumably splashy's problem, not yours though)

HTH,
Matt

Bug#334946: chkrootkit: MySQL threads false positive: me too

2006-11-15 Thread Sam Morris
I just had the same experience as Lionel on a machine running sarge,
with chkrootkit 0.46a-2bpo1 (from backports.org).

The cron job complained about 1 hidden process, however running 'chkproc
-v -v -p 3' by hand doesn't reveal anything. Without '-p 3' it complains
about mysqld, java, imapproxyd, named and beam (from erlang) being
hidden. Having checked all of them it seems they are just threads of
other processes that chkrootkit knows to ignore when '-p 3' is
specified.

Perhaps we're just seeing the result of a race to read a process'
information from /proc before it exits?

Bug#262038: Here's a backtrace with dbg symbols

2006-11-15 Thread Philip Armstrong
I'm seeing this crash too: epiphany crashes on print every time (to a
cups printer queue in this case).

Here's a backtrace with debug symbols. Looks like it might actually be
a fontconfig bug, it's dying in FcCharSetDdestroy().

First of all, thank you for your answer.

The hardware I use it's a Dell PE SC440 Celeron D336 with two disks in

Effectively I use debian i386 etch.

Could you please give me more detailed instructions on how to produce a

I have so far unsuccessfully tried to reproduce on amd64 etch and i386

Is there anything unusual about your system you can think of from the
top of your head?

It would be very helpful if you could send me a backtrace of the crash.
Easiest would be to build the package yourself and run the unstripped
mondoarchive binary from with the package build directory in gdb (or
attach gdb to the running process). (Please let me know if you need more
detailed instructions - I'm a bit in a hurry right now.)

2006-11-15 Thread Arnaud Quette

Hi,

2006/11/2, Luis Llana [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: nut-usb

Severity: grave

Hello,
first of all I would like to apologize if you received this more
than once; I sent this bug report a couple of days ago but I can't
see it at
http://bugs.debian.org/nut-usb

I have a mge usb UPS, see later its description. The stable version of
nut-usb (2.0.1-4) runs correctly, but the testing version doesn't.
This is the output of /lib/nut/newhidups - -a :

this is clearly a hotplug / udev (permission settings) problem. Until
now, I've used an hybrid system that run in udev some hotplug rules.
But it was based upon udev' hotplug backward compat which seems no
more available now.

A temporary solution is to edit /etc/udev/nut-usbups.rules and replace every
RUN+=/etc/hotplug/usb/libhidups
by
MODE=664, GROUP=nut

For the reference, the upstream equivalent file:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/nut/trunk/scripts/hotplug-ng/nut-usbups.rules.in?op=filerev=0sc=0

As I'm more than busy, I've scheduled the fix along with the 2.0.5
release, but if someone wish to NMU, he's welcome...

thanks for the report,
Arnaud

Missed out some dbg symbol packages the first time around. I think
I've got the full set in this backtrace.

Looking at the source at
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=fontconfig;a=blob;h=5da131283d07f17991fbe361c239511282dd9a61;hb=b9cc1c4ed81c8caefb5b857f37fdc24e804a5ef9;f=src/fccharset.c
it looks like

void

  53 FcCharSetDestroy (FcCharSet *fcs)
  54 {
  55 int i;
  56
  57 if (fcs-ref == FC_REF_CONSTANT)
  58 {

So FcCharSetDestroy() is being given a duff pointer by the
nsFontMetricsPS destructor (gdb says FcCharSet *fcs doesn't point to
any allocated memory).

Bug#398739: DEFAULT interpolation for actions not working

2006-11-15 Thread martin f krafft
Package: fail2ban
Version: 0.7.4-3
Severity: normal

I use the attached action configuration file as replacement for the
standard iptables action because I need to insert the fail2ban rules
into another chain, not INPUT. I also need to execute additional
commands after actionstart and before actionend, and I want to be
able to control fwchain and the two command sets from the jail.local
sections.

So my jail.local file is (line breaks for readability):

  [DEFAULT]
  action = iptables[name=%(__name__)s, port=%(port)s, fwchain=%(fwchain)s,
post_start_commands=%(post_start_commands)s,
pre_end_commands=%(pre_end_commands)s]

  [ssh]
  fwchain = ssh-tarpit
  post_start_commands = iptables -I fwchain -j ssh-whitelist
  pre_end_commands = iptables -D fwchain -j ssh-whitelist

For the services that I do not list (and which are not enabled),
I expect the [DEFAULTS] defined in the action configuration to be
used. This does not appear to be the case though:

Bug#398738: gimp: Condensed font variant disappeared

2006-11-15 Thread Olivier Guilyardi
Package: gimp
Version: 2.2.13-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

In July/August I have been using a (non-free) Adobe font in Gimp :
Helvetica Neue Bold Condensed. But this font is not available anymore
in Gimp. All other variants (Bold, Light, etc...) are available,
but the Condensed variant has disappeared, although it seems to be
properly loaded:

$ xlsfonts | grep -i neue | grep bold
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-o-condensed--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-o-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-r-condensed--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-adobe-helveticaneue-bold-r-normal-outline-0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1

I did not change anything to my fonts setup in the meantime. I always
load them when I need, with xset fp+ dir and xset fp rehash.

In Gimp the Helvetica neue font appears twice, and clicking on one or
the other of these does the same thing.

I suppose this is not strictly related to the Gimp, because I have
neither access to this Condensed variant in Abiword, nor in the KDE
Control Center font dialog.

However, when I last worked on this project in Gimp, this summer, the
font was available.

Regards,

Olivier Guilyardi - Samalyse

Bug#398741: Erroneously uses NIS domain as suggested email domain for new mail accounts

2006-11-15 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Package: icedove
Severity: normal

(only actually tested in thunderbird on stable, but icedove in sid has
the exact same logic still in place)

In ./toolkit/components/startup/src/nsUserInfoUnix.cpp, and
./xpfe/components/startup/src/nsUserInfoUnix.cpp (files are identical
except for a tweak in license text?) icedove retrieves the domainname
from the uname-returned struct member char domainname[]. However, this
has nothing to do with DNS, despite the name: uname(2) says: The
domainname member (the NIS or YP domain name) is a GNU extension..

Indeed, domainname (in /proc, in getdomainname and in
/bin/domainname (part of yp-tools), all refer to the NIS/YP domain name,
and *not* to the DNS domain name.

On Debian systems, programs should consult /etc/mailname, and if that
file is missing use the same logic as hostname -d (which dnsdomainname
is ttbomk an alias of). Or alternatively they should leave it up to the
local MTA (/usr/sbin/sendmail) to append a domainname.

It is a bug that thunderbird uses the NIS domainname: on non-NIS systems
this will be empty anyway, on NIS systems this will be bogus is most
cases. In our case, this has caused perhaps a dozen users over the past
years to improperly configure their thunderbird causing mail issues,
because they didn't realize the suggested email address was bogus
(because the NIS domain is a shorthand for our organisation, is does
look like 'intentional').

It is a feature request for thunderbird to use instead proper guessing
of the domain name when making new accounts, simply dropping this bogus
logic would downgrade this bug to a wishlist (or you can then close it
as far as I'm concerned).

Thanks,
--Jeroen

The problem here is I don't know how to simulate it without using the
  KDM

You can trigger a server reset by running a client that terminates
  immediately, e.g. xdpyinfo.

It fails when KDM try to respaw X. There I wish to plug gdb to catch
 the backtrace.

KDM isn't actively involved in that, it's just the X server resetting
after the session ends (the last client terminates). So the two options
I described should reproduce the problem.

Bug#396949: fixed in lynx-cur 2.8.7dev2-1

from the user's current directory at lynx's startup (Closes: #396949)

Unfortunately, the patch is flawed; the logic is basically:

   1. Stat the file.
   2. If not owned by the user, abort.
   3. Read the file.

It's somewhat more than that. The point of adding the check was to ensure
that files in the user's home directory (the ultimate goal, for dev.3/dev.4)
are not world-writable.

There's nothing that says the status can't change between 1 and 3, so we have
a race condition; IOW, the bug is still there, only slightly harder to
 exploit.

dev.4 is current (from yesterday). Let's focus on the current code, not
the first step that I took.

Actually, the upstream CHANGES file also claims this release checks
that the paths for PERSONAL_EXTENSION_MAP and PERSONAL_MAILCAP are absolute,
but this appears to be a typo; from the diff it is clear that what's checked
are the _global_ type and extension maps.

yes - that's a cut/paste error that I fixed in the dev.3 patch.

Bug#398743: Sys. config. probs. window prevents access to k3bsetup (with focus under mouse)

2006-11-15 Thread Eddy Petrișor

Subject: Sys. config. probs. window prevents access to k3bsetup (with focus
under mouse)
Package: k3b
Version: 0.12.17-3
Severity: normal

Hello,

I am using the focus under mouse focus model and I have seen that when
the k3bsetup window is opened via the System configuration problems
window in k3b, if I go away (let's say to the task bar) with the mouse
and then want to return to the k3bsetup window, (probably) because of
the properties/signal handlers of the System configuration problems
window, the k3b window takes focus (expected), but also pops up covering
the k3bsetup window (unexpected and undesired).

This behaviour (poping up) is a behaviour which is defined by the window
manager/desktop environment and must not be handeled by the k3b
application since it overrides without reason the user settings.

IIRC, I haven't met this behaviour in k3b until this version, but it
could be older since I haven't used the application (that particular
option) for a while (about 3 month, I _think_).

Sure. Committed to experimental svn. I'll compile and upload this

I am unsure whether we'd be able to get this change into etch.

Hi Olivier,

Ok, I've now finished the etch i386 install and have tested. I can
confirm the issue and attach a backtrace (so no need for you to do this
- but thanks a lot for your willingness to help!).

The backtrace indicated to me that this is the same as
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=379938. So I installed
the libfribidi0 package, and indeed the issue went away.

If you could therefore install the libfribidi0 package as well and let
me know how that affects things, that would be really great.

Thanks a lot best regards,
Andree
