Bug#399814: iceweasel: Describe relationship to firefox in README.Debian

2006-11-22 Thread Jorgen Schaefer
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0+dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi there!
It would be nice if the README.Debian of the iceweasel package would
describe the relationship between iceweasel and firefox, because that is
not apparent to all people out there.

Greetings,

Bug#399815: hwclock not set before root is checked

2006-11-22 Thread C.Y.M
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.12r-14

When hwclock.sh was set to 11 (since we need / to be writable for the adjfile),
it started causing timestamp errors when checking / on reboot (with
S10checkroot.sh). This only affects systems with /usr on a separate partition
and is related to bug # 342887. Version 2.12r-13 seems to work ok, but I can
understand the problem you face. Although, setting the hwclock after checking /
will always cause timestamp errors. The hwclock must be set before any drives
can be scanned or else timestamp errors will occur.

Best Regards.

Bug#335215: gedit: freeze on save

2006-11-22 Thread Andrew Burton
Package: gedit
Version: 2.14.4-2
Followup-For: Bug #335215

I can consistently reproduce this defect, however I don't have the
.xsession-errors or stacktrace, presumably because I don't have the debugging
symbols compiled in.

This happens every time when saving to a directory with a large number of text
files ('ls -la | wc -l' gives 894). CPU hits 100% for a good 10 seconds or so
when entering a filename in the file save dialog.

Bug#332761: Upgrading libnss-ldap fixes bug

2006-11-22 Thread Moritz Bunkus
Hey,

I can confirm that upgrading helps. I've built a 251 package from the
sources in sid, rebooted the server (just to make sure the old libs
aren't in use anymore) and there's been no hanging CRON process for a
week now (before each and every child process would hang around as
CRON).

Bug#399173: Etch installation on HPC nx6325

2006-11-22 Thread Verand

 Using installgui:
Failed step: choose and install software, right after xorg configuration.
Failed GRUB installation. No /boot/grub created.
GUI mode hangs after switching consoles.

Does this result in a screen flash after which you're sent back to the
graphical installer?

There was no screen flash.

I switched from GUI to text console, to see, what could be problem to
GRUB and came back to GUI. Installer has stopped to response from this
moment. No keyboard inputs nor mouse events were possible.

Bug#389260: note upstream #5416

2006-11-22 Thread Zack Weinberg

On 11/18/06, Jay Berkenbilt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

No, but how about this: I'll contact upstream and ask whether they
have an opinion about whether we should include this in the debian
version of the package. If they don't have a serious objection, I can
go ahead and stick it in. Upstream releases of ICU are very
infrequent, and I would think it unlikely that we'll see another one
before the freeze for Etch.

I'd be happy if you did this, but please don't worry about it too
much. (I really appreciate your looking into this at length and
sending me all these alternative possible solutions.) It's not going
to help for Etch unless this patch, + a rebuild of the intermediate
dependency (boost::regex) + a rebuild of the package itself (monotone)
all somehow get into Etch, and there's a bug open against the monotone
package that will probably be worked around for etch by just giving up
on avoiding thread safety, so. [monotone is a single-threaded
program, but somehow it's really really hard to not get all this
locking overhead...]

Another potential solution for you would be to locally modify the ICU
package and build your own version.

I've done that for experimental purposes, but it isn't a long-term
solution -- we want one that works for the packaged, distributed
monotone binaries.

There's another patch that I am going to include in ICU. When I
rebuild and test, I'll try your patch as well. I'll let you know how
it goes. This will be sometime after Thanksgiving.

Great! No hurry at all, as I said above (plus, I'm going to be
offline myself till after Thanksgiving).

Bug#399819: iceweasel: MathML output really hosed

2006-11-22 Thread Paul Vojta
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Display of MathML is really hosed -- apparently it is using the wrong
fonts. For example, all of the samples in the web page

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/demo/texvsmml.xhtml

are wrong. As a specific example, in the first example in the above web
page, $x^2y^2$ (in TeX notation) appears instead as $\S^\in\dagger^\in$.

The bug occurs even if I run iceweasel as a clean user, but not if I run
it with MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1. (In the latter case, a whole 'nother set
of bugs comes up, mostly involving missing characters.)

SUGGESTION

1) Non-standard indentation of 3 spaces. Change this to 4, or
any number dividable by 2 (as TAB is 8 spaces). The de facto
for indentation in most cases is by 4.
   * the artictic, bsd, lgpl templates use indentation of 4
2) Make heading spreads evenly. The makes it more easy to add

3) Streamline the explanation texts enclosed in tags ...

Suggested change follows. Likewise for the other templates.
Patch to implement this is attached.

Description : Logger::Syslog -- a simple wrapper over Syslog for Perl

You want to deal with syslog, but you don't want to bother with Sys::Syslog,
that module is for you.

Logger::Syslog takes care of everything regarding the Syslog communication, all
you have to do is to use the function you need to send a message to syslog.

Logger::Syslog provides one function per Syslog message level: debug, info,
warning, error, notice, critic, alert.

Logger::Syslog is compliant with mod_perl, all you have to do when using it in
such an environement is to call logger_init() at the beginning of your CGI,
that will garantee that everything will run smoothly (otherwise, issues with
the syslog socket can happen in mod_perl env).

Sorry for doing only half of the work.

Bug#399169: TorrentFlux Arbitrary Command Execution and Directory Traversal

2006-11-22 Thread Cameron Dale

retitle 399169 torrentflux: create/delete/overwrite arbitrary files
tags 399169 + pending
thanks

Thanks for the report Stefan, your vigilance is much appreciated.

Unfortunately the report from secunia is poorly titled, and some of it
doesn't apply to the Debian package, so I'll include some more info
below for those interested.

On 11/18/06, Stefan Fritsch [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

1) Input passed to the kill parameter in index.php is not properly
sanitised before being used as the command line argument to
the kill command. This can be exploited to inject arbitrary shell
commands via the ; character.

This doesn't apply to the current version (2.1-5), as it has had this
input sanitized in fixing a previous 2.1 bug.

 2) Input passed to the delfile or alias_file parameters in
index.php is not properly sanitised before being used to delete,
create or overwrite files. The delfile parameter can be exploited
to delete arbitrary files. The alias_file parameter can be
exploited to create or overwrite arbitrary files, but an attacker
cannot control what data will be written to them.

This does apply to the current version, and will be fixed in the next
version (2.1-6).

Successful exploitation requires valid user credentials.

None of these is very serious, as all require a registered user to
exploit the hack.

Bug#399754: FTBFS: Can not require network during build

2006-11-22 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Goswin von Brederlow]
Create a debian/rules target 'update' that will fetch the latest
Release, sources, debs, whatever else you fetch now during
build. But don't call that target from any of the normal targets
used during build. When you upload a new source version you first
run debian/rules update, then build and upload.

This will not work, as the set of available packages differ from
architecture to architecture, so the autobuilders need to fetch the
package list for their architecture for the build to succeed and
generate the wanted meta-packages.

We are looking into making the lack of network non-fatal. It used to
be like that, but was changed to improve our CD build. We are looking
into ways to make both the offline build and our CD build work. :)

* Youness Alaoui ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [061121 22:57]:
It's me again. We have now added new icons for aMSN, and removed those
illegal ones from the latest SVN version. I do understand you don't
want those icons to be in your debian package so don't worry, you
don't need them, those are .ico icons and are the icons used in the
taskbar of Windows only! Since Debian is for Linux and not Windows,
this means that this does not affect you at all. You can use the 0.96
release source file, and delete the winicons/ directory before
creating your debian package, this should not affect you in any way.

Ok, so now we have a patch - the usual repacking stuff for
dfsg-freeness. (If you look further up in the bug log, all other
icons/sounds/... are free, upstream rechecked that.)

Bug#399821: iceweasel: iceweasel doesn't display pages anymore

2006-11-22 Thread Didier Verna
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0+dfsg-1
Severity: grave

Hi !

Not sure if this bug report should go to iceweasel of firefox, but this
occured after an upgrade which updated firefox AND installed iceweasel
packages.

After this upgrade, my browser doesn't display anything anymore. When it
starts, instead of displaying my home page, it says Moved permanently (HTTP
error 301), and gives me a link to the very same page. The link doesn't work.

Then I can't open any location: the Home, Reload, or konquefox UP buttons in
the toolbar don't work. If I type a location in the location field, it doesn't
work either. I've also tried to open an URL remotely (-remote blabla). It
doesn't work either.

Bug#399754: FTBFS: Can not require network during build

2006-11-22 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Petter Reinholdtsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 [Goswin Brederlow]
A package MUST not require resources outside of the buildd. How
could the security team release a new version if the external
resources are dead? How can a build be reproduced if the external
 resource changes contents?

This package is intended to reflect the package content of the APT
sources at the time of the build, and thus should _not_ stat the same
when the external resources change content. It is a meta-package
depending on the package available in the Debian archive at the time
it is built. The source in this case is the list of wanted packages
for the implemented package profiles, and the binary packages
represent the available packages at the time of the build.

In short, this package _should_ require resources outside the buildd,
and every time it is rebuilt _should_ change to reflect the external
 sources.

Create a debian/rules target 'update' that will fetch the latest
Release, sources, debs, whatever else you fetch now during build. But
don't call that target from any of the normal targets used during
build. When you upload a new source version you first run debian/rules
update, then build and upload.

As extra perks you could check against ftp.skolelinux.org during build
and warn if they don't match the local files (but don't fail on
errors) and you could call the update target if DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS
contains update.

 when building debian-edu I get

 make[1]: Entering directory
 `/home/formorer/build/debian-edu_0.812/debian-edu-0.812'
 ./gen-control -s ./sources.list.terra -t debian-edu-tasks.desc.new mv

 Err http://ftp.skolelinux.org etch Release.gpg
Could not connect to ftp.skolelinux.org:80 (158.36.191.142), connection
 timed out

The ftp.skolelinux.org ftp server is still working as it used to. I
guess you either have a special network configuration, or there is
 something else strange going on.

Local network hickups I believe.

I guess we could make the build check if the apt sources is available
before trying to fetch data from the, and allow the build to be a
no-op if no network is available (just passing on the previous list of
packages). Not sure if it is worth the effort, though.

 Friendly,

Bug#399822: linux-image-2.6.18-1-686: detection of IBM USB mouse flaky

2006-11-22 Thread clayton
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-1-686

Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
I/O ports at 1820 [size=32]

my IBM USB mouse is almost never detected on boot. Some minutes (or even
hours) later it spontaneously starts working, for example:

kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
kernel: hub 1-1:1.0: USB hub found
kernel: hub 1-1:1.0: 2 ports detected

kernel: usbcore: registered new driver usbhid
kernel: drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.6:USB HID core driver

I seem to have been able to provoke detection by plugging in other USB
devices, cat /proc/bus/usb/001/001, and even lsbusb seems to have
had this effect once. But I have found no reliable method to manually
get it working, and I can't see what is causing the spontaneous
detection.

Other USB devices seem to be working normally, as does the stick mouse.

Bug#399778: xen-create-image should avoid perl warnings about missing locale

True. But I've always figured if the caller was setup the
 appropriate locale would be inherited.

I recommend setting environment variable 'LC_ALL' to 'C' at the start
of the xen-create-image script to avoid this problem.

Fixed in CVS now, thanks for the report.

Bug#399827: cron-apt: does not clean up initlog if lock cannot be acquired

2006-11-22 Thread Marc Haber
Package: cron-apt
Version: 0.4.9
Severity: normal

Hi,

on systems with a long sources.list, servers unreachable and cron-apt
being invoked often, it is possible that a new cron-apt is started
while the old one is still running. In this case, the new cron-apt
terminates with a message that it cannot acquire the cron-apt log. So
far, so good.

At this time, $TMPDIR/initlog was already created, but onexit()
doesn't zap $TMPDIR/initlog, and thus the rmdir $TMPDIR in onexit()
fails (Directory not empty). This error message is delivered by cron
in an extra mail message.

Greetings
Marc

The icedove asks for profile selection after every start. The Mozilla

I would be willing to accept a patch introducing a configuration

Bug#399016: kaddressbook: Data loss, involving strange file duplication and locking problems

As you can see, there are many duplicates of the std.vcf file, and two lock
files. The dates on the lock files
don't match the date on the current std.vcf file. There are two old
std.vcf...new files that are empty. There
are three std.vcf__# files that are larger than the rest, and inside those
three files are the contacts that I
entered that are now missing in std.vcf.

Thankfully, I can copy one of those three files over the std.vcf file and
regain those contacts. But what in the
 world is going on here?

I'm rating this as grave because I consider it a data-loss bug. Most users
won't have any idea how to dig for
the vcf files, and even if they do, there's no guarantee that the missing
data will be there. And even worse, if
this went unnoticed for a while, you could end up with a branching scenario
where some files had some contacts,
and other files had other contacts, and somehow you'd have to merge them back
together into a single file to get
them all back. Worst of all, this makes the KDE address book system (which
 is used by Kontact/KMail/etc)
completely unreliable and untrustworthy. I hope Etch isn't released with
 this bug.

I have been playing with kaddresbook since you reported this bug. I have added,
removed and edited contacts without problems in several testing sessions.

I also have looked to my files below .kde/share/apps/kabc, and the structure
is very similar to yours, so i do not think this is the problem (but
i agree it is confusing).

Could you give more information about this?

Please let me know how I can help debug this.

Could you try KAddressBook in a different computer and test if you have
the same problems? And in the same computer as a diferent user?

Thanks,
Ana

 make one with debootstrap.

Well to be fair the copy/tar options make a lot of sense when you
have other pre-made distributions regardless of where they come
from. So they don't necessarily imply that you've previously used
 debootstrap.

I think when these are set in the config, the only missing option is the
 hostname.

+ lvm/dir + networking options. But yes I mostly agree.

We have mod_python, redirection with mod_proxy/mod_rewrite, PHP with

interesting entries in apache logs nor in any other log.

The box has 1Gb of RAM and 3Gb of swap.

I know that 150 processes can use up all memory and that's why we
reduced the max clients to 25 but the real problem here is that Apache
2.0.53 run for about 1 year with the exact same configuration without
any problem. The problems started the day after the upgrade to 2.2.

What was strange was the high number of defunct apache2 processes. I'd
expect to find something about them in apache error.log but no, nothing
was there.

2006-11-22 Thread fechiny

Hi Matt,

This bug is not bug at all. Because in README fully described, that to
get frequency from the file name, it must be named as Radio
frequency.fmr:

Quote:

* the first way to uses it is to open an url or a file named Radio
98200.fmr where 98200 is the frequency of the radio you which to
listen to in kHz.

End quote

or, if you want to have more than one radio station, you can use any
other name with information about station name and frequency inside
it:

Quote:

* the second is to open as an url or a file with the name you want and
then edit the file info to scan for a radio, edit it's name...

specification:
==
the file.fmr contain 2 lines:
the first contain the name displayed in xmms
the second contain the frequency in kHz.

End quote

So, there is a question: may be it is good idea to do that file name
can looks like Radio station frequency.fmr?

Bug#399823: kdebase-bin: please support other root gaining methods like sudo

2006-11-22 Thread Marc Haber
Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 3.5.5a.dfsg.1-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

in a number of places inside the KDE system, packages use kdesu to
gain root privileges to do stuff. kdesu uses su as a backend and thus
needs the real root passsword.. My root passwords are so ugly that
they cannot be remembered.

Please consider adding support for other root gaining methods, for
example sudo. That way, I would only need to enter my user password if
sudo is appropriately configured.

Greetings
Marc

But I guess you want to something slightly different?

 Christian

Exactly. If DEB_HOST_ARCH != DEB_BUILD_ARCH then make-kpkg
automatically adds the m68k-gnu-linux- prefix for cross compiling.

But building amd64 on i386 has to be done native with the
i486-linux-gnu-gcc (or just gcc) as it is not cross-compiling.
make-kpkg has the special --cross-compile='-' to tell it to use the
native gcc even if DEB_HOST_ARCH != DEB_BUILD_ARCH.

Could you apply the patch and check that 'DEB_HOST_ARCH=m68k debuild
-B -am68k' still works? If it breaks something I'm happy to fix
the patch.

Bug#399798: gnat1: Cannot create: aunit.ali

2006-11-22 Thread Ludovic Brenta
Brian,

Off the top of my head, the only reason I can think of why gnat should
want to recompile aunit.ads is because you've passed -f (force
recompilation) or -s (recompile if switches changed) to gnatmake. Is
that the case?

As can be seen from the .ali file, the switches for aunit (and most
other Ada packages in Debian) are -g -O2 -gnatafon -gnatVa -gnatA;
please consider using the same switches in your program.

If that does not solve your problem, could you please send a minimal
test case that reproduces the issue? That shouldn't be too long but I
am pressed for time right now.

Should it be using something different instead? What is the value of

For now I've added a comment that that should probably be changed at some
 point.

(To be very honest, I don't see the point of the code added in 1.10 at all
 as the devfs path is still used as the base for the whole piece of code;
I guess it is in preparation of a further future transition.)

Don't be misled by the variable name. It's called $bootfs_devfs because
it's the path before calling mapdevfs; if you aren't using devfs paths
then $bootfs_devfs and $bootfs are identical. What $bootfs_devfs really
means is the version of this path that can be used within d-i.

I've just committed an IMHO better fix which will work for both devfs
and non-devfs paths. Sven, thanks for the report.

logs is crucial data. I don't want svlogd to remove possibly tons of log
messages in many log files due to some temporary misconfiguration. If
you descrease the number of log files in the config file, you can remove
older log manually, and svlogd will adapt. If you remove them manually,
you really know what you're doing.

At least svlogd could write a warning to the log suggesting how to
remove extra log files. E.g.,

n=10; echo 1,-${n}p | ed -s '!ls [EMAIL PROTECTED]' | xargs rm

(It took me about 20 minutes to re-invent that command and I had seen
somebody else use it before.)

At least mention it on the man page.

There was no screen flash.

I switched from GUI to text console, to see, what could be problem to
GRUB and came back to GUI. Installer has stopped to response from this
moment. No keyboard inputs nor mouse events were possible.

ah, so you were actually able to go to, let's say, VT2, type some
commands and then switching back to VT5 (graphical interface's VT), right?

One more question: when you said you colud complete installation with
expert vga=791 was that a textual or a graphical instalation?

i'll clone this bug and assign to directfb package, since we've already
experienced g-i hangs/crashes on AMD64 before.

Bug#334934: dar: add support for bash_completion

Hence I am inclined to close this wishlist bug...

My idea was indeed to complete the archive name without the .number.dar part,
can this be done by bash(_completion) ?
The point of normal completion usage with dar is that it completes _with_ the
trailing .number.dar part!

thanks for your work,

Bug#399833: libgcj8: JLabel.setCursor does not work

2006-11-22 Thread Eugen Dedu
Package: libgcj8
Version: 4.2-20060923-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The following code does not change the cursor on the JLabel (when the
mouse is over the JLabel), as it should:

import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
public class Swing{
public static void main (String[] args){
JFrame frame = new JFrame (Premier programme Swing);
JLabel l = new JLabel (Bonjour le monde !);
l.setCursor (new Cursor (Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR));
frame.getContentPane().add (l);
frame.setSize (200, 200);
frame.setVisible (true);
}
}

Tested with:
$ gcj-4.2 -O2 -Wall Swing.java --main=Swing

I am not sure if it's libgcj8 and not libgcj7 which is used, because I
have both of them installed on my system.

Friendly,

The recent updates of netenv seem to search for /etc/*networking*/interfaces

Bug#333151: definitely FontPath issue in package xserver-xorg postinst

2006-11-22 Thread Frits Daalmans
Hi,

upgrade from etch-1-month-ago to 20061120 broke my X server,
solution found, still needs a good patch.

I think it should be reassigned to xserver-xorg?

Symptoms:
xserver-xorg 7.1.0 refuses to start with the following errors
(in /var/log/Xorg.0.log)

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled,
removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi, removing from

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled,
removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi, removing

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/PEX, removing from
list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic, removing
from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1, removing from
list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

The error was caused because I upgraded from an old installation where my
/etc/X11/xorg.conf contained font directories from
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts.

Proposed solution:
have a postinst check for FontPath elements with
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xyz
and change the base directory to /usr/share/fonts/X11/
(or maybe /usr/share/fonts/X11/X11R7/ would be even better, I'm not sure)

Presumably this error will never show up with a clean install, just with
an upgrade from xserver-xorg 7.0 versions?

bye,
Frits

Bug#392592: proposed patches

2006-11-22 Thread dann frazier
Here's a couple patches that fix this bug.

The first is a patch to linux-kbuild-2.6. It adds support for
including arch-specific files. Most of it is the addition of the
arch/ia64/scripts files.

The second is a patch to linux-2.6 that checks to see if there is an
arch-specific scripts dir. If so, it symlinks this dir back to the
linux-kbuild tree.

Bastian: Please let me know if this method is acceptable to you. If it
is not, what changes are required?

Bug#399836: update-menus: sh: Illegal option -r when run with dash as /bin/sh

2006-11-22 Thread Andreas Janssen
Package: menu
Version: 2.1.32
Severity: normal

update-menus produces the following error message over and over again:

sh: Illegal option -r

Looks like this option is valid for bash, but nor for dash
(and possibly for other shells as well ). I recommend you either drop
the use of this option, or call bash instead of sh.

regards
Andreas Janssen

Hi !

I have tested it here on a fresh install with apache2 and the version of php5
you gave but got no segfault..

Can you reproduce this bug on a seperate install ?

Also, it should not be assigned to mediawiki but to apache2 or php5 I guess.

Bug#399827: cron-apt: does not clean up initlog if lock cannot be acquired

 Hi,

You really use cron-apt heavily. ;)

while the old one is still running. In this case, the new cron-apt
terminates with a message that it cannot acquire the cron-apt log. So
 far, so good.

Ok.

At this time, $TMPDIR/initlog was already created, but onexit()
doesn't zap $TMPDIR/initlog, and thus the rmdir $TMPDIR in onexit()
fails (Directory not empty). This error message is delivered by cron
 in an extra mail message.

But in this case it should not zap this file?
And in that case what should happen is thta the rmdir operation
should not display a problem if it is not empty.

Something like this instead.
rmdir xxx /dev/null 21

Is that a sufficient solution for you?

Based on this log, hibernate doesn't get control back from suspend2.
Thus, I don't think the problem is with the hibernate package.

Please rerun hibernate with option -v4 and try to get the output to

Does it work if you use the in-kernel suspend code
(uswsusp/ususpend)?

Otherwise I suggest that you contact the suspend2 mailing list about
this for further help debugging the problem.

Bug#397835: [Amsn-devel] Amsn-devel post from [EMAIL PROTECTED] requiresapproval (fwd)

I tried the new icons in win2k but they barely show up. They are set to
32bit colour but I think the win2k tray can only handle 8bit. Is it possible
to get them changed to 8bit colour depth.

Thanks.

Hi Andreas,

It's me again. We have now added new icons for aMSN, and removed those
illegal ones from the latest SVN version.
I do understand you don't want those icons to be in your debian package so
don't worry, you don't need them, those are .ico
icons and are the icons used in the taskbar of Windows only! Since Debian is
for Linux and not Windows, this means that this
does not affect you at all. You can use the 0.96 release source file, and
delete the winicons/ directory before creating your
debian package, this should not affect you in any way.

if you still need anything, don't hesitate to write to me.

Thank you for your help.

 Hey,
Sorry, didn't see Alvaro already responded to your message, this only
confirms (partially) what I first said.
About the .ico files, they can't be from the official client, the quality
of the icons is too bad to be coming from a
 Microsoft product :-p
Seriously though, i'm also concerned about those images, so I'm comparing
these images to the ones in Windows live messenger
and they are not the same, but I do think they are the same as the windows
messenger.
I just downloaded and installed a resource viewer and it looks like the
icons from windows messenger are the same as the ones
we use with aMSN, although in windows messenger, they are stored as pngs,
not icons. So I don't know if it's just a
coincidence, or if they were done based on windows messenger icons or if
they were copied.
Anyways, since there is a doubt, I suggest we change those icons. We will
change those icons for the 0.96 release, which is
already out but not yet officially announced.
I propose Gus's icons from the Emerald skin. I'll take care of contacting
him and ask him, then we'll have to move fast in
 order to repackage everything.

Thanks Andreas for letting us know about this.
 I'll keep you posted.

   Hi,

it seems that we need your help - there is a bug report questioning
where these files come from, and it couldn't be clarified up to now.

For Debian, being sure about legal issues is a major topic, and if we

   like to see happen.

Bug#389420: The bug is not fixed

2006-11-22 Thread Eugen Dedu

Hi,

xcdroast 0.98+0alpha15-10 does not solve the problem.

rm -rf .xcdroast
start xcdroast
scan devices
enter setup
save config
press Ok
create cdrom/dvd
it shows no cd loaded
however I have a CD loaded. Even if I try to write a track, it shows No
CD loaded.

If I use the old version of .xcdroast/xcdr098.cfg everything is fine: it
shows the data read on the CD and I can write data to it.

I am not hit by this bug since I can use the old version of config file
(as shown before), but I think it is useful for other people who start
using xcdroast.

Attached, the two versions of config file.

Feel free to contact me for other information, if needed.

Cheers,

I think that the right place to fix it is in update-inetd (by
somebody else, I'm too busy right now).

You really use cron-apt heavily. ;)

Yes, on all my systems.

Why shouldn't it?

And in that case what should happen is thta the rmdir operation
should not display a problem if it is not empty.

 Something like this instead.
 rmdir xxx /dev/null 21

Is that a sufficient solution for you?

That would leave a temp directory _and_ a temp file around for each
invocation. This night alone (where ftp2.d.o was down for the better
part of the night) this amounted to like 200 inodes.

I would prefer cron-apt properly cleaning up. Probably, the contents
of initlog could be prepended to the cannot acquire cron-apt lock
message.

Greetings
Marc

Hmm. If I build cdebconf now I cannot reproduce the crash.

Should it be using something different instead? What is the value of
$bootfs_disk_syspath and $bootfs_disk if you run the code with 'set -x'?

For now I've added a comment that that should probably be changed at some
  point.

(To be very honest, I don't see the point of the code added in 1.10 at all
  as the devfs path is still used as the base for the whole piece of code;

Hehe, i suppose i will now need to build and test your new version, or will
you be able to test it on your pegasos machine ?

Bug#399842: libkpathsea4: segmentation fault on upgrade of tetex

Package: libkpathsea4
Version: 3.0-23
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

On upgrade of sid, I obtain :

This segfault break upgrade for tetex-extra.
When I remove (and purge) package libkpathsea4 the problem disappear but
all tetex package depend of package libkpathsea4.
Thus it's break my tetex toolchain.

Best regards

Bug#399845: tar: directory traversal by letting tar create apropriate symlinks

2006-11-22 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: tar
Version: 1.16-1
Severity: critical
Tags: sarge, sid, upstream, security

There is a directory traversal bug in GNU tar as described in
http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2006-November/050812.html
which means the creation and overwriting of files outside the expected
directory without using -P.

I could reproduce this security flaw in Sarge (tar 1.14-2.2) as well
in Sid (tar 1.16-1), so it probably is also in the version in Etch.

Yes, and the Debian-Installer works ok on computers.

Find out what is wrong with _your configuration_

I suggest to check things like BIOS setup or a boot option.

Bug#399842: libkpathsea4: segmentation fault on upgrade of tetex

This segfault break upgrade for tetex-extra.
When I remove (and purge) package libkpathsea4 the problem disappear but
all tetex package depend of package libkpathsea4.

Then how can you claim that the problem is in libkpathsea4? Of course you
don't get a segfault from tetex when you force it to be uninstalled!

Please provide a backtrace of this segfault using gdb.

Thanks,
