Bug#399814: iceweasel: Describe relationship to firefox in README.Debian
Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0+dfsg-1 Severity: wishlist Hi there! It would be nice if the README.Debian of the iceweasel package would describe the relationship between iceweasel and firefox, because that is not apparent to all people out there. Bug#399815: hwclock not set before root is checked
Package: util-linux Version: 2.12r-14 When hwclock.sh was set to 11 (since we need / to be writable for the adjfile), it started causing timestamp errors when checking / on reboot (with S10checkroot.sh). This only affects systems with /usr on a separate partition and is related to bug # 342887. Version 2.12r-13 seems to work ok, but I can understand the problem you face. Although, setting the hwclock after checking / will always cause timestamp errors. The hwclock must be set before any drives can be scanned or else timestamp errors will occur. Package: gedit Version: 2.14.4-2 Followup-For: Bug #335215 I can consistently reproduce this defect, however I don't have the .xsession-errors or stacktrace, presumably because I don't have the debugging symbols compiled in. Bug#389260: note upstream #5416
On 11/18/06, Jay Berkenbilt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: No, but how about this: I'll contact upstream and ask whether they have an opinion about whether we should include this in the debian version of the package. If they don't have a serious objection, I can go ahead and stick it in. Upstream releases of ICU are very infrequent, and I would think it unlikely that we'll see another one before the freeze for Etch. I'd be happy if you did this, but please don't worry about it too much. (I really appreciate your looking into this at length and sending me all these alternative possible solutions.) It's not going to help for Etch unless this patch, + a rebuild of the intermediate dependency (boost::regex) + a rebuild of the package itself (monotone) all somehow get into Etch, and there's a bug open against the monotone package that will probably be worked around for etch by just giving up on avoiding thread safety, so. [monotone is a single-threaded program, but somehow it's really really hard to not get all this locking overhead...] Another potential solution for you would be to locally modify the ICU package and build your own version. I've done that for experimental purposes, but it isn't a long-term solution -- we want one that works for the packaged, distributed monotone binaries. There's another patch that I am going to include in ICU. When I rebuild and test, I'll try your patch as well. I'll let you know how it goes. This will be sometime after Thanksgiving. Great! No hurry at all, as I said above (plus, I'm going to be offline myself till after Thanksgiving). zw -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The delfile parameter can be exploited to delete arbitrary files. The alias_file parameter can be exploited to create or overwrite arbitrary files, but an attacker cannot control what data will be written to them. This does apply to the current version, and will be fixed in the next version (2.1-6). Successful exploitation requires valid user credentials. Bug#399754: FTBFS: Can not require network during build
[Goswin von Brederlow] Create a debian/rules target 'update' that will fetch the latest Release, sources, debs, whatever else you fetch now during build. But don't call that target from any of the normal targets used during build. When you upload a new source version you first run debian/rules update, then build and upload. This will not work, as the set of available packages differ from architecture to architecture, so the autobuilders need to fetch the package list for their architecture for the build to succeed and generate the wanted meta-packages. We are looking into making the lack of network non-fatal. It used to be like that, but was changed to improve our CD build. We are looking into ways to make both the offline build and our CD build work. :) Friendly, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Petter Reinholdtsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: [Goswin Brederlow] A package MUST not require resources outside of the buildd. How could the security team release a new version if the external resources are dead? How can a build be reproduced if the external resource changes contents? It is a meta-package depending on the package available in the Debian archive at the time it is built. The source in this case is the list of wanted packages for the implemented package profiles, and the binary packages represent the available packages at the time of the build. In short, this package _should_ require resources outside the buildd, and every time it is rebuilt _should_ change to reflect the external sources. Create a debian/rules target 'update' that will fetch the latest Release, sources, debs, whatever else you fetch now during build. But don't call that target from any of the normal targets used during build. When you upload a new source version you first run debian/rules update, then build and upload. As extra perks you could check against ftp.skolelinux.org during build and warn if they don't match the local files (but don't fail on errors) and you could call the update target if DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS contains update. when building debian-edu I get make[1]: Entering directory `/home/formorer/build/debian-edu_0.812/debian-edu-0.812' ./gen-control -s ./sources.list.terra -t debian-edu-tasks.desc.new mv debian-edu-tasks.desc.new debian-edu-tasks.desc Err http://ftp.skolelinux.org etch Release.gpg Could not connect to ftp.skolelinux.org:80 (158.36.191.142), connection timed out The ftp.skolelinux.org ftp server is still working as it used to. I guess you either have a special network configuration, or there is something else strange going on. Local network hickups I believe. I guess we could make the build check if the apt sources is available before trying to fetch data from the, and allow the build to be a no-op if no network is available (just passing on the previous list of packages). Not sure if it is worth the effort, though. Friendly, -- Petter Reinholdtsen MfG Goswin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There are three std.vcf__# files that are larger than the rest, and inside those three files are the contacts that I entered that are now missing in std.vcf. Thankfully, I can copy one of those three files over the std.vcf file and regain those contacts. But what in the world is going on here? I'm rating this as grave because I consider it a data-loss bug. Most users won't have any idea how to dig for the vcf files, and even if they do, there's no guarantee that the missing data will be there. And even worse, if this went unnoticed for a while, you could end up with a branching scenario where some files had some contacts, and other files had other contacts, and somehow you'd have to merge them back together into a single file to get them all back. Worst of all, this makes the KDE address book system (which is used by Kontact/KMail/etc) completely unreliable and untrustworthy. I hope Etch isn't released with this bug. I have been playing with kaddresbook since you reported this bug. I have added, removed and edited contacts without problems in several testing sessions. I also have looked to my files below .kde/share/apps/kabc, and the structure is very similar to yours, so i do not think this is the problem (but i agree it is confusing). Could you give more information about this? Please let me know how I can help debug this. Could you try KAddressBook in a different computer and test if you have the same problems? Because, in conjunction with etch as distriution, only copying would also make sense, rpmstrap would not be right - but before you can create an image with copying, you need to make one with debootstrap. Well to be fair the copy/tar options make a lot of sense when you have other pre-made distributions regardless of where they come from. So they don't necessarily imply that you've previously used debootstrap. I think when these are set in the config, the only missing option is the hostname. + lvm/dir + networking options. If DEB_HOST_ARCH != DEB_BUILD_ARCH then make-kpkg automatically adds the m68k-gnu-linux- prefix for cross compiling. But building amd64 on i386 has to be done native with the i486-linux-gnu-gcc (or just gcc) as it is not cross-compiling. make-kpkg has the special --cross-compile='-' to tell it to use the native gcc even if DEB_HOST_ARCH != DEB_BUILD_ARCH. Bug#399798: gnat1: Cannot create: aunit.ali
Brian, Off the top of my head, the only reason I can think of why gnat should want to recompile aunit.ads is because you've passed -f (force recompilation) or -s (recompile if switches changed) to gnatmake. Is that the case? As can be seen from the .ali file, the switches for aunit (and most other Ada packages in Debian) are -g -O2 -gnatafon -gnatVa -gnatA; please consider using the same switches in your program. If that does not solve your problem, could you please send a minimal test case that reproduces the issue? That shouldn't be too long but I am pressed for time right now. -- Ludovic Brenta. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What is the value of $bootfs_disk_syspath and $bootfs_disk if you run the code with 'set -x'? For now I've added a comment that that should probably be changed at some point. (To be very honest, I don't see the point of the code added in 1.10 at all as the devfs path is still used as the base for the whole piece of code; I guess it is in preparation of a further future transition.) Don't be misled by the variable name. It's called $bootfs_devfs because it's the path before calling mapdevfs; if you aren't using devfs paths then $bootfs_devfs and $bootfs are identical. What $bootfs_devfs really means is the version of this path that can be used within d-i. I've just committed an IMHO better fix which will work for both devfs and non-devfs paths. Bug#391360: runit: svlogd is not removing old logs

If you descrease the number of log files in the config file, you can remove older log manually, and svlogd will adapt. If you remove them manually, you really know what you're doing. At least svlogd could write a warning to the log suggesting how to remove extra log files. Bug#333151: definitely FontPath issue in package xserver-xorg postinst
Hi, upgrade from etch-1-month-ago to 20061120 broke my X server, solution found, still needs a good patch. I think it should be reassigned to xserver-xorg? Symptoms: xserver-xorg 7.1.0 refuses to start with the following errors (in /var/log/Xorg.0.log) Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1, removing from list! Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed' The error was caused because I upgraded from an old installation where my /etc/X11/xorg.conf contained font directories from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts. Proposed solution: have a postinst check for FontPath elements with /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xyz and change the base directory to /usr/share/fonts/X11/ (or maybe /usr/share/fonts/X11/X11R7/ would be even better, I'm not sure) Presumably this error will never show up with a clean install, just with an upgrade from xserver-xorg 7.0 versions? bye, Frits -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#392592: proposed patches
Here's a couple patches that fix this bug. The first is a patch to linux-kbuild-2.6. It adds support for including arch-specific files. Most of it is the addition of the arch/ia64/scripts files. The second is a patch to linux-2.6 that checks to see if there is an arch-specific scripts dir. If so, it symlinks this dir back to the linux-kbuild tree. We have now added new icons for aMSN, and removed those illegal ones from the latest SVN version. I do understand you don't want those icons to be in your debian package so don't worry, you don't need them, those are .ico icons and are the icons used in the taskbar of Windows only! Since Debian is for Linux and not Windows, this means that this does not affect you at all. You can use the 0.96 release source file, and delete the winicons/ directory before creating your debian package, this should not affect you in any way. if you still need anything, don't hesitate to write to me. Thank you for your help. About the .ico files, they can't be from the official client, the quality of the icons is too bad to be coming from a Microsoft product :-p Seriously though, i'm also concerned about those images, so I'm comparing these images to the ones in Windows live messenger and they are not the same, but I do think they are the same as the windows messenger. I just downloaded and installed a resource viewer and it looks like the icons from windows messenger are the same as the ones we use with aMSN, although in windows messenger, they are stored as pngs, not icons. So I don't know if it's just a coincidence, or if they were done based on windows messenger icons or if they were copied. Anyways, since there is a doubt, I suggest we change those icons. We will change those icons for the 0.96 release, which is already out but not yet officially announced. I propose Gus's icons from the Emerald skin. I'll take care of contacting him and ask him, then we'll have to move fast in order to repackage everything. Thanks Andreas for letting us know about this. I'll keep you posted. At this time, $TMPDIR/initlog was already created, but onexit() doesn't zap $TMPDIR/initlog, and thus the rmdir $TMPDIR in onexit() fails (Directory not empty). This error message is delivered by cron in an extra mail message. But in this case it should not zap this file? Why shouldn't it? And in that case what should happen is thta the rmdir operation should not display a problem if it is not empty. Something like this instead. rmdir xxx /dev/null 21 Is that a sufficient solution for you? That would leave a temp directory _and_ a temp file around for each invocation. This night alone (where ftp2.d.o was down for the better part of the night) this amounted to like 200 inodes. I would prefer cron-apt properly cleaning up. Probably, the contents of initlog could be prepended to the cannot acquire cron-apt lock message. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. Sven, thanks for the report. Hehe, i suppose i will now need to build and test your new version, or will you be able to test it on your pegasos machine ? Bug#399845: tar: directory traversal by letting tar create apropriate symlinks
Package: tar Version: 1.16-1 Severity: critical Tags: sarge, sid, upstream, security There is a directory traversal bug in GNU tar as described in http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2006-November/050812.html which means the creation and overwriting of files outside the expected directory without using -P.
