Bug#408104: Broken 'diff' function in the VCS::Cvs::Version perl module (bug & fix)

2007-01-23 Thread Gleb Rubanau

It should also be fixed to quote arguments properly.

Sorry, not sure, what do you exactly mean?
Should patch itself be fixed or mentioned module needs another fix?

I'd like to note, that I did not supervise all the module code, just
fixed the problem that stopped my work -- but I can probably do it
later, if you think it's needed.

Cheers,
Hleb

Bug#314148: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the atokx package

2007-01-23 Thread Christian Perrier

Dear maintainer of atokx and Debian translators,

Today, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the atokx Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #314148).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to: cs da de es fr ja sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: cs da de es ja sv

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a
copy of this announcement BCCd to you. Please review the translation.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for
this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can
incorporate them into the package being built.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 31 Jan 2007. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

You can download the pot, and any po, files from:

  http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/atokx

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

24 Jan 2007 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
 24 Jan 2007 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
27 Jan 2007 : deadline for receiving translation updates
28 Jan 2007 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/0-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#408208: conserver: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2007-01-23 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: conserver
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i18n@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

a r128 board. Did you reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will

Hi Vorlon,

I guessed it won't be a problem, as this patch is not part of the software
itself.
Moreover I use this patch since several motnhes, no problem here, and many
other users use it.
Previous hostap kernel patch was for 2.6.16, and etch will be released with
2.6.18... This is the last reason which made me include this new patch.

Best regards, Adam.

Hi. As far as I'm concerned, you can close it -- not because it's
been solved (from what I've heard, it likely hasn't), but because I
don't have the system in question anymore, and thus can't even try
to reproduce it.

The bug was also filed upstream (and confirmed there by a variety of
people); so either it's fixed, or at least the people who'd be the
ones to fix it are aware of it.

Cheers,

It would be less disruptive to drop the liferea-gtkhtml package or make it
an empty package depending on liferea-xulrunner, rather than to risk getting
package relationships wrong when merging the contents. Please go for one of
those first options.

i dont use the hardware anymore, i think it was still there but harder

fwiw, i think i got a chance to talk to the driver author on irc and
it was a known problem that wasn't interesting to fix because the
hardware is old and rarely used, but my memory is pretty vague about
this

please do close the bug by all means or mark it as WONTFIX or

Package: madwifi-source

I've started looking closer at NetworkManager and what I read seemed promising.
 So, I
pulled it in to try. Unfortunately, madwifi absolutely will not get a dhcp
address
when network-manager is driving it. I can see dhcp discover messages in the log
as I expect, but no lease. If I disable network-manager, I can ifup ath0 and it
works correctly.

This is an open unrestricted network connection, so no WEP or WPA surprises
should be
involved.

Bug#408203: Xen kernel has no /dev/snapshot support

2007-01-23 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.18-7

The packaged amd64 Xen kernel (and perhaps others) in etch does not have
the /dev/snapshot node or underlying char device, and so is unable to do
userspace suspend. (The non-Xen kernel includes it.) Observe:

(in /var/log/hibernate.log)
Starting suspend at Tue Jan 23 21:19:49 EST 2007
hibernate: [00] Executing MiscLaunchAuxFunc1 ...
hibernate: [01] Executing CheckLastResume ...

/dev/snapshot device not found.
hibernate: EnsureUSuspendCapable refuses to let us continue.
hibernate: Aborting.
hibernate: [01] Executing NoteLastResume ...
hibernate: [01] Executing MiscLaunchAuxFunc3 ...
hibernate: [01] Executing LockFilePut ...
Resumed at Tue Jan 23 21:19:50 EST 2007

Checking manually reveals this is indeed the problem:

[USER AND HOSTNAME REMOVED]:~$ uname -a
Linux [HOSTNAME REMOVED] 2.6.18-3-xen-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Dec 4 17:56:42
CET 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[USER AND HOSTNAME REMOVED]:~$ ls -l /lib/libc.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2007-01-07 13:23 /lib/libc.so.6 ->
libc-2.3.6.so
[USER AND HOSTNAME REMOVED]:~$ ls -al /dev/snapshot
ls: /dev/snapshot: No such file or directory
[USER AND HOSTNAME REMOVED]:~$ sudo mknod /dev/snapshot c 10 231
[USER AND HOSTNAME REMOVED]:~$ sudo head -c 1 /dev/snapshot
head: cannot open `/dev/snapshot' for reading: No such device

The expected behaviour is of course that the Xen kernel
includes /dev/snapshot support and that userspace suspend works.

It should be noted that when this same system boots 2.6.18-3-amd64
instead, suspend works as expected.

This system is a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
processor. (Other hardware details are presumably not pertinent.)

The suggested fix is to rebuild and repackage the Xen kernels
with /dev/snapshot support turned on, assuming the Xen kernels do
currently have that option. If not, then open a corresponding bug in the
Xen project's tracker.

Hi,

if the short description is intended to be the one of your package, it
is far too long. First of all, you do not need to repeat the package
name at the beginning of the description. Then, you can replace the long
list of operating systems by saying that ChessDB is multi-platform. As a
result, you would have something like:

Description: multi-platform chess database

Then our users would know that they can invite their friends to use the
same program on their favorite computer. Also, since the package would
be in main, it is obvious that it is free.

For the long description, you do not need to re-iterate the short
description. How about listing the most important main features instead?

Have a nice day,

Daniel,

I actually use this package regularly so I'd like to adopt it. I'm not
a DD so if anyone else wants to adopt it that might be more expedient.

I'll start working on the package now and on the DD application process.
Since that can be a lot of work I hope you'll be patient with me. But
I'll do my best to take care of this package.

Thanks for the offer to sponsor. I hope you're happy with my work.

Bug#408202: tomcat5.5: will not start, no log files generated

2007-01-23 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky
Package: tomcat5.5
Version: 5.5.20-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

My attempt to install tomcat5.5 has failed. (Tomcat5 still runs cleanly.)
Although apt-get seems to have proceeded without problems, and even though an
attempt to start tomcat5.5 seems to work:

# /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start
Starting Tomcat servlet engine: tomcat5.5.

tomcat5.5 does not actually start:

# telnet localhost 8180
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

and no log files are generated at all in /var/log/tomcat5.5 .

I've been through the configuration files and I've set JAVA_HOME to point to
the correct directory via a modification to /etc/default/tomcat5.5. I'm using
official Sun JDK 1.6.0, which is linked to via a symlink called
/usr/local/share/jdk, regardless of "kaffe" in the printout below. (I assume
that this still works in tomcat5.5, as it did in tomcat5, without any
modifications to server.xml).

The /var/lib/tomcat5.5/conf/server.xml file has correct information, or at
least reasonable default information, and I've uncommented the first "logger"
entry in that file.

Please let me know if you need further information; while I expect this is a
config/conflict problem, I'm unable to proceed as I can't even get log files or
any sort of crash message. Please also note that I uninstalled all tomcat5.5
apps. I have not tried re-installling tomcat5.5-webapps or tomcat5.5-admin.

Bug#406925: airmon-ng script depends on wireless-tools

Hi Adam,

Version 1:0.6.2-7 of aircrack-ng in unstable which fixes this RC bug also

the freeze exception criteria, was a response to a wishlist bug. Is it your

Bug#407896: zonecheck: Zonecheck displays raw XML

thanks

I am not seeing that on unstable as of today; the only difference with
an etch setup is the version of iputils-ping, which is 20020927-4 in
unstable (although I'd expect the version in etch to be a simple
backport of this one).

Stephane, do you have other etch boxes where you can reproduce this
problem ? Do you also not see it on an unstable setup (if you have one
available) ?

Cheers,

Bug#408034: 3 upgrade problems to xorg 7

2007-01-23 Thread Baylis Shanks

The package xbase-utils does not exist. Do you perhaps mean xbase-clients?

yeah, i guess it must have been xbase-clients, sorry.

> overwrite man pages belonging to other programs which were presumably
> packaged separately in previous releases (like "oclock"), and so

The package oclock does not exist in Sarge, nor in Etch. Of course Debian
cannot guarantee clean upgrades for packages that are not in Debian.

that explains that. over a year ago when i got this machine i installed
Ubuntu on it b/c it's a handheld and there weren't installation instructions
available for Debian for this hardware. Then after the basic stuff was
running I switched it over to Debian. I suppose some of the X-windows stuff
was still Ubuntu, unbeknownst to me.

I had similar problems with a different machine (clean debian install) in
terms of having to manually tell aptitude which packages to upgrade so that
it wouldn't balk at installing xorg (the first problem i mentioned in the
bug report). but i guess this "oclock" etc stuff (the second problem) must
have been leftover from ubuntu. maybe the font stuff (the third problem) was
from that too.

thank you,
 bayle

The package xbase-utils does not exist. Do you perhaps mean xbase-clients?

The package oclock does not exist in Sarge, nor in Etch. Of course Debian
cannot guarantee clean upgrades for packages that are not in Debian.

If you have any packages that _are_ in Debian and that had this problem,
please let us know.

I am more than reluctant to package the current CVS HEAD version of
python-fuse and upload it to unstable, since many packages that use
python-fuse (gmailfs and wikipediafs most notably) still rely on the
last stable release of python-fuse to work, and I don't see the
maintainers for those programs change this behavior until python-fuse
has another official release.

Bug#408195: Do any of these result in real world issues?

2007-01-23 Thread Stephen Gran
Since libclamav-dev Provides: libclamav1-dev, do any of these actually
result in real world problems? Or are you just using a simplistic
metric for reporting that misses what happens in practice? Do these
need to be release critical? Can you post log snippets of a build
failure, for instance?

Thanks,

Bug#399278: [patch] Re: vlc-plugin-esd: Not working when using a remote server

2007-01-23 Thread Nirgal Vourgère
Tags: patch

Hi Cyril

I hit the same bug here. The problem is the use of esd_get_server_info with
what looks like a play-only descriptor. That call never returns.

Here is a workaound: You can "export ESPEAKER=your_esd_host" and use vlc
--aout=sdl ...

If anyone want to test, remember to run your esd with options such as -tcp
-public -promiscuous
see /etc/esound/esd.conf and don't blame me if anyone can record your mic ;)

You'll find a fix attached to this mail.

It only fixes the crashing stuff and a memory leak, but my guess is that the
whole latency computation is... let's say weird. Why are we timing
esd_get_server_info if we later use esd_get_latency? And why only when host is
remote?

If I shoot myself in the foot, I deserve to get hurt. If I use a random
program without reading its documentation, there's no telling what will
happen. I'd like to know why you think this is a bug, and why you think

Yes, Lars has stated his intention to completely remove this rendering
engine.

To do so, I'd assume the right way to go would be to turn -gtkhtml
into a dummy package that pulls -xulrunner in.

In that case, the separate liferea-xulrunner package would be rather
pointless, as liferea would just pull it inconditionally. Should both
packages be just merged into one? Would *that* be too much of a change
to get into etch?

Hi,

There's an debug option you can enable in /apps/nautilus-cd-burner/
(use gconf-editor). Hopefully this can give you some clue to what's
going wrong.

BTW, I didn't know you could use n-c-b to burn audio cds, how do you

I currently use a r300 based board, and all my r200 boards seem to have
some problems, so I can't test this immediately. I'll see if I can get
one of them working to test this, but I think the Warzone 2100 code was
rewritten since then, so current versions shouldn't fail on an r200.

Bug#399905: workaround for dynamic IP doesn't work any longer

2007-01-23 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Hi,

I believe that upstream bug at
http://bugs.ntp.isc.org/765

is the proper way to fix this. This would mean adding the
net_bind_service capability.

We might also want to look at
http://bugs.ntp.isc.org/766

I saw the bug in the debian bts saying that apt-spy is orphaned. Is it

Bug#408188: octave2.1-forge: legend doesn't wait long enough for gnuplot

2007-01-23 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: octave2.1-forge
Version: 2006.03.17+dfsg1-3
Severity: normal

When calling legend on a gnuplot diagram, legend.m times out.
Increasing the number at line 186 of legend.m from 20 to 100 makes it
work for me, but I imagine that on other (slower?) systems, this won't
be sufficient and there's a more general problem.

I found a mailing list message about a similar race condition with the
test that the file has been written directly below, but nothing about
this. In any case, I didn't find a solution for either problem.

Bug#380226: libparted does not resize NTFS

That happens :-(

Sure, but as I explained, we do not use parted, but our own program
partman, which only makes use of _lib_parted.

What we actually do in parted_server is to call the libparted function
ped_disk_set_partition_geom with:
- disk: correct PedDisk
- part: correct PedPartition
- constraint: ped_file_system_get_resize_constraint(fs)
- start: 2048
- end: 29298922 (for example)

Do you mean the patch "parted-print-name.dpatch" that Otavio already
applied in Debian's parted last week? I tested with that patch, but that
actually caused a serious regression.

It no longer changes the starting sector to 63, but also does not fix the
problem (i.e. leaving the starting sector at 2048); instead the starting
sector is now being changed to 16065, which I suspect is the end of the
first cylinder or the start of the second! See [1].

This probably is worse than the old behavior and I've therefore suggested
to Otavio to revert that patch.

From my reading of the relevant code (libparted/labels/dos.c) in libparted
[2], I think that your change is in the right area, but that the current
fix is doing something wrong.

Cheers,
FJP

I did not reproduce it for a lng time now. The only thing I did
about 9 months ago, has been to reinstall sarge from scratch. I cannot
tell if this is what fixed the problem, or if the problem disappeared
even before (by way of incremental upgrades).

This bug is already solved upstream, which is already packaged but not
available on the archives because the upstream name change joined with the
archive freeze for Etch we're currently in. Packages for Claws Mail 2.7.1

Bug#408179: Template::Stash::XS fails to set tied hash values

This is a regression from Template::Stash::XS in 2.14-1, downgrading the
package to previous version fixes this.

Looking at the upstream changelog suggests the only changes between 2.14
and 2.15 were to explicitly fix issues with the xs stash and tied
hashes, so I am reporting this error against the debian package.

sparc is ussually run in 32 bit mode, because 64 bit mode is slower.

I think the easiest thing would be to send a -done message with the matching

What is your audio output configuration?

libao, alsa, oss? If you're using libao, which libao driver are you
using? Also which sound card/kernel modules would be helpful, too.

So I'm tagging this as found in 1.0.26-1 too.

If you want to drop support for 64 bit arches, this would be more
than just amd64/x86_64. This would include atleast alpha and ia64 too.

Anyway, you'll need to stop building the liferea-gtkhtml binary package
on 64 bit arches, and then ask ftp-master to remove the binary packages
on those arches.

The good news seems to be that only liferea itself is making use of
liferea-gtkhtml, so it shouldn't be that hard to get rid of it.

The reports I get upstream are all AMD64 related. I had somewhat good
experiences on SPARC but cannot guarantee it to be stable on other 64bit
platforms. Also the XHTML rendering in GtkHTML2 is somewhat ugly
(spacings that cannot be avoided...) and so I think it is better not to
use it.

Yes, liferea-gtkhtml missing won't hurt anyone.

Hi,

Is this still an issue with GNOME 2.14? If so, are Zip drives supported by
gfloppy, or how are they formatted?
