I don't have an AMD64 machine with appropriate hardware, so it is hard
for me to replicate this problem. But I will try.

Hmmm, that really limits the actions we can have on this bug report,
really.

Have you tried rebooting the clients ? This has proven useful for
similar problems encountered by users when upgrading from 3.0.24 to 3.0.25.

This is not about multiple installed tomcats, but about one installation
with multiple tomcats running. IMO a very handy feature.

I will investigate this more.

I really like your idea and the script. What license is it? Can I use it
in the tomcat package. I would like to introduce some script for this
feature to make it easy to setup multiple tomcat instances with one
installation of tomcat.

Bug#440505: icedove-locales: Unmaintained package

2007-09-02 Thread Daniel Baumann
Package: icedove-locales
Severity: important

Hi,

I have the impression that icedove-locales is not maintained anymore and
I believe that Hans Ofverbeck is MIA. Several contact attempts by me,
starting in october 2006, later on in March 2007 and also now (#436900)
did not result in any answer (the email did not bounce, though), as well
as by another person who contacted him four weeks ago too without any
answer too.

I've updated the package and intend to upload and take-over
icedove-locales in one week. nmu-diff attached.

Regards,
Daniel

I already asked to check the ld.so.conf configuration on autobuilders
boxes. I suspect some of them simply does not include /etc/ld.so.conf.d files,
so the failure.

Oh right, I thought you would have to upgrade xserver-xorg-core because
of the ABI bump. Then does it help if you upgrade xserver-xorg-core to
experimental 2:1.3.99.0-2? The new ati driver 6.7.192 has been built for it.

Package: filelight

Prompted by Fabian Pietsch finding another issue with the package
description he requested a review be done by the debian-l10n-english

I'm using the intel xorg driver with xorg 1.3.0.0. Resizing/moving the
window doesn't help. I always have the problem with cultivation 8 on my
Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop. Restarting cultivation doesn't help. The
version with the patch that deavid wrote works fine though.

Bug#440506: rubygems: Cannot run fxruby's example, as require 'fox16' fails

2007-09-02 Thread Niklaus Giger
Package: rubygems
Version: 0.9.4-4
Severity: normal

I installed fxruby 1.6.11 using rubygems.
Then I tried to run one of the fox examples and got the following error
ruby /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/fxruby-1.6.11/examples/inputs.rb
/var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/fxruby-1.6.11/examples/inputs.rb:3:in `require':
no such file to load -- fox16 (LoadError)
from /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/fxruby-1.6.11/examples/inputs.rb:3

Adding a
require 'rubygems'
before the
require 'fox16'
fixed the problem.

It would however be nice if one has nothing to patch before running
examples.

Thanks for your word and I hope we will find some day a good solution
to mix apt-get and ruby gems seamlessly.

Bug#440250: [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#440250: digikam: cannot delete or move photos to trash or another folder (file permisions are ok)

2007-09-02 Thread carlos bahillo
Digikam is intalled in a laptop hp530 Victoria. The desktop is gnome, kde in
not installed, only libraries and kde programs as k3b and digikam.
All the directory digikam uses are set to drwxrwxrwx (Pictures and Temporal)
all the photos inside are set to -rwxrwxrwx and the owner and group is the
user.
When you try to use the "move to trash" option it says Can't change name of
the file xxx.jpg.
But it allows to change the name, to move to another directory (another
album).
In this laptop konqueror is not installed, but you can move to trash using
the ephifany browser. Or the shell.
Launching digikam as root doesn't work.
I thought that the diffence should be that the trash folders in gnome were
different that in kde. I mkdir .Thrash-0 ~/.local/trash ... etc
I copied the files from a desktop I use with kde.
The laptop is installed with the lastest stable version of Debian, the

Bug#440507: mysqlhotcopy "Invalid db.table name ... at /usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 859" - patch included

2007-09-02 Thread Gabor FUNK

Package: mysql-server-5.0
Version: mysql-dfsg-5.0 5.0.45-1

I guess this should be fixed upstream, but upstream bug opened
at 20th March, 2007 with "Severity: S1 (Critical)", yet not seem
to be fixed.

less priority, but I provide a patch to fix stil existing mysqlhotcopy

Subject: 5.0.41a-1 - mysqlhotcopy error

I recently updated my testing system, mysql is at 5.0.41a-1 now.
Before mysqlhotcopy was working well, after the upgrade it
displayed the following error message:

Invalid db.table name 'foo.foo`.`bar' at /usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 859.
(real example:
Invalid db.table name 'huweb-forum.huweb-forum`.`phpbb_attach_quota' at
/usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 859. )

This seems to be sort of upstream - but it is only in "verified" status.
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=27303

As described above, it can be fixed by adding a line containing:
   map { s/^.*?\.//o } @dbh_tables;
after line 839 which is
   my @dbh_tables = eval { $dbh->tables() };

(This is mysqlhotcopy v1.22, size 33225, dated Jun 25, 03:05)

I can confirm that this works indeed .

Thanks Carlos,

I need to investigate your list of dependencies as you are not running within
KDE. digikam should work under gnome, just most people don't.

Could I ask you to install the reportbug package from Debian and then run
$ reportbug digikam

You can then locate this bug report and followup with additional information
and this will also detail which versions of which dependencies you have
installed which will help debug.

Thanks,

Bug#419035: rott does not crash on start on amd64 anymore but is still riddled with 32bit-isms

2007-09-02 Thread Fabian Greffrath

severity 419035 important
thanks

Dear ROTTers,

I am lowering the severity of this bug to a non-RC level:

rott (1.0-4) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/10-32bitisms.dpatch:
+ New patch to lower the severity of #419035.
   Thanks, Dmitry V. Rutsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>!
+ ROTT no longer crashes on start on AMD64.
+ Remaining issues: Sound works, but music is just a loud humming.
Loading a game produces a segfault.
   * debian/menu:
+ Adjusted to the new menu structure.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#439716: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#439716: xfce4-utils: add a solution to launch gpg-agent in the xinitrc file

Hi,

if you run Xfce4 from gdm (and maybe kdm and slim, I don't know), it's
run automagically from /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent.

I don't know what would be the correct way to handle this. I'm not sure
but maybe the startxfce4 script should use Xsession.d too, and thus we
could clean the /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc.

If you want to run gpg-agent (and you aren't running gdm), you can add
to your .xinitrc (or the global /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc) the content
of /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent (or maybe just source it)

Thanks for reporting, and sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure what
the descriptions should look like. These packages don't contain macro
packages, only font files (tfm in the case of adobeuro, a complete set
of Type1 fonts with tfm, vf and fd files for the others).

Maybe the name should mention the actual font this provides, e.g. URW
Nimbus Sans L for helvetic.

And as far as upstream is concerned, I'd really hope we are able to
somehow clear up the psfonts mess and have one package urw-base35...

Bug#428307: usage of filters might be the cause

2007-09-02 Thread Ingo Juergensmann

Package: icedove
Version: 2.0.0.4.dfsg1-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Today I tested icedove again. This time I deactivated all filters (I
have 35 filters set up) and receiving mails from the local dovecot IMAPd
was fast as it should be again. After receiving all mails, I
re-activated the filters again and "Run all filters". This was fairly
fast as well for above 700-900 mails.

So I suspect some problems with filters to be the cause for the slow down.

Additionally I did a strace while receiving mails with activated filters
and found this:

I just built the module for the (new) kernel I'll boot soon, not for the

Bug#209008: parallel building: DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS or DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS_PARALLEL

2007-09-02 Thread Robert Millan

I think you're overengineering. There are basicaly two use cases:

a- Developer building a package for a specific purpose (e.g. testing
an improvement), wanting to speed up this specific build.

b- Buildd admin wanting to speed up build of the overall archive [1].

(a) can be archieved simply by adding a flag to dpkg-buildpackage, such
that when used it will pass the corresponding -j flag to make when invoking
debian/rules (for consistency, it could also be -j) [2] [4].

(b) can't be archieved easily no matter what we do. If we make -j NCPUs
implicit, lots of packages will break. If we design an interface
such that each maintainer has to add cruft to her debian/rules to support
parallel builds, it will take ages anyway untill all maintainers add their
cruft.

OTOH, just by archieving (a) we automaticaly get developers to, in their own
interest, start using this feature and report (non-RC) bugs when it fails [5],
just because they want (like I do) to scratch their own itches. This will
gradualy improve parallel build support in a true bazaar fashion, untill we
reach a point in which we can declare it a release requirement [3], hence
obtaining (b).

[1] yes, this means build logs become ugly and unreadable, but people can still
rebuild if they need a sane log, just like they do for nostrip, noopt.
buildds could even do that when FTBFS is found. I think it's a reasonable
price to pay (specialy since the trend for multi-core CPUs is so
stablished now).

[2] true, this doesn't maximize the benefit for non-make packages, but:
- it does in the debian/rules part (which is very significant in multi-build
  packages)
- the small proportion of non-make packages makes this benefit marginal
- *then* it might be useful to add the proposed cruft, at which point it
could co-exist with the make -j flag which is needed for debian/rules no
  matter what.

[3] if a package is so braindamaged that parallel builds can't be supported,
there shouldn't be any problem with explicitly disabling/overriding -j in
$(MAKE) recursion (does MAKE+=-j1 suffice?)

[4] #355654 would also archieve that, although I think -j would be better.

[5] to us or to upstream; it doesn't necessarily mean more work in our side.

package the guest modules vboxadd and vboxvfs, too. That could be done
either in the existing package or in a separate package.

Cheers,
Torsten

here.

(The test case come from the mplayer config script. Noticed the segfault
during a sid to sid upgrade that mplayer was a part of.)

Bug#173513: [Bug tree-optimization/3713] Pointers to functions or member functions are not folded or inlined

2007-09-02 Thread guillaume dot melquiond at ens-lyon dot fr

--- Comment #14 from guillaume dot melquiond at ens-lyon dot fr 2007-09-02
11:56 ---
Created an attachment (id=14150)
 --> (http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=14150&action=view)
Implements folding of "(&function & 1)"

I encountered the same issue with some heavy template code: GCC was generating
some really awful code, while it should have been optimized to almost anything.
It basically comes down to this kind of C++ code:

  struct A { void a(); };
  template < void (A::*f)() >
  void g(A *t) { (t->*f)(); }
  void h(A *t) { g<&A::a>(t); }

After instantiation, it is somehow transformed to:

  struct A { void a(); };
  void h(A *t) { (t->*(&A::a))(); }

And GCC is unable to optimize it. So I played a bit with the attached patch,
which does fix the issue for my template code.

Note that GCC does inline the member function for my code (just add an empty
body to A::a to test it), but it doesn't inline it in Andrew Pinski's last
testcase. I have no idea why; perhaps because the address goes through a
variable. But at least the generated code no longer contain any crap and it
directly calls the correct function, even if it doesn't inline it.

(As for why the C++ front-end generates this code in the first place, it is
because the lower bit of the pointer indicates whether an extra indirection is
needed when calling the function through the pointer to member. The C++
front-end actually assumes that functions have an alignment of 2 at least, so
that this trick can work.)

Just to clarify: There are five options in that line I put in scim(1)
man page. Among them, two ("-c simple" and "-f x11") are default, the
other three are not default -- without "-e pinyin", the default is use
all IM engines, without "--no-socket"; the default is use socket if
available; without "-d", the default is to run in frontground.

2007-09-02 Thread Ian Campbell
Jonas Meurer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

You need to
rm /usr/src/modass/usr_src/modules/ivtv/driver/Module.symvers and then
force a rebuild using module-assistant (using the -f flag). This is
because old versions of this file can persist and get picked up by the
next build.

This should be fixed in 1.0.2-2 in svn which I am just about to request
an upload of.

Hi,

this report could be merged with

#416622 xmlto: Suggested package passivetex is not intesting/unstable

A possible solution is outlined there, but until now nobody of the
Debian XML/SGML group has given any feedback.

there is a new upstream release, featuring SSE3/SSE4 support among

it would be nice to have current yasm available as a package.

Exactly what is the "figure text"? I am able to change the figure caption
easily, at least. Can you outline the steps needed to reproduce the behaviour?

Bug#440529: linux-image-2.6.22-1-686: I/O errors for some USB masse storage

2007-09-02 Thread San Vu-Ngoc
Package: linux-image-2.6.22-1-686
Version: 2.6.22-3
Severity: important

After upgrade, I cannot use the USB mode of my nikon camera anymore
(it used to work a couple of months ago). The first time it stopped
working I was in 2.6.18. Upgrading to 2.6.22 didn't solve anything.

Below is what I get from dmesg (essentially, I/O errors after the
media is recognised).

It is a camera with an SD card.

I don't think the SD is faulty since it works perfectly on my other
linux PC running mandriva, and on windows too. Btw, if I turn my
camera to PTP mode, then it also works on this debian machine (with
gtkam). But USB mode is much more handy for me and doesn't work
anymore !

Important remark: my usb pendrives (1go and 2go) still work fine.

If no, then this is a problem with vlc or ffmpeg (I will then reassign the bug)
If yes, can you try to find a small .avi that exhibit the problem
and send me the exact commands you use.

Vincent

Bug#439184: seemingly unneeded depends pulled in when installing eclipse-cdt

2007-09-02 Thread Thomas Girard

retitle 439184 split eclipse-cdt into eclipse-cdt and eclipse-cdt-sdk
thanks

Hello,
thanks for your report and the nice diagram.

I was just trying to install eclipse-cdt from aptitude and discovered that it
tried to pull in many more packages than needed.
Currently I have eclipse-cdt installed from tar balls from the Eclipse
website. The minimum I needed to install was the

+ Platform Runtime Binary (eclipse-platform-3.2.2-linux-gtk.tar.gz)
+ CDT (org.eclipse.cdt-3.1.2-linux.x86.tar.gz)

Also already installed are Debian packages for Java, GTK2, and other things
which I may have needed, but were already installed.
I've been having a look at the dependencies in Debian's eclipse-cdt, trying
to figure out why so many things are being pulled in. I don't know much
about packaging and what is or is not included implicitly in the Eclipse.org
packages, so don't be surprised if I say things which don't make sense!

(Finally to concrete suggestions:)
Does "eclipse-platform" need to depend on "eclipse-rcp"? On the eclipse.org
webpage it appears as though the "RCP Runtime Binary" is a plugin, so it
should depend on "eclipse-platform" rather than the other way around. I've
attached a picture of the dependencies which seem to be indicated by the
webpage
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.3-200706251500/details.php
Also, I don't have libjsch-java, liblucene-java*, libtomcat* installed and my
CDT works fine. Perhaps these are included in one of the two Eclipse.org
packages I've installed as indicated above? Or perhaps they are not needed
by eclipse-cdt (and shouldn't be pulled in with eclipse-platform)? Maybe the
above (especially libtomcat*) should be depended on by eclipse-jdt
and/or -pde and/or -rcp, but not -cdt?

I have discussed this with the Debian Eclipse maintainers. It turns out
that you don't need libjsch, libtomcat and liblucene when using upstream
eclipse-platform because they are indeed included in the
eclipse-platform tarball.

The current eclipse-platform <-> eclipse-rcp dependency might be wrong,
but inverting it would create a new dependency nightmare.

Regards,

Thomas

vlc-fbx fails with any .avi file on my system with the same error.
vlc-fbx is not able to produce a MPEG-2 stream because (I guess) of a
policy change with vlc/ffmpeg and MPEG-2 ?

Package: cfengine2

Hello,

Trying to install debian packages with cfengine2, I figure that the define

The problem comes from the way the packages are checkec, cfagent search in the
output of
'apt-cache policy ' the string 'Installed:'

I use LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, so the package check does not work.

Maybe forcing LANG=C could solve this problem.

Bug#440532: rawstudio: Missing icons

2007-09-02 Thread Edouard Gomez
Package: rawstudio
Version: 0.6-1
Severity: important

Since the 0.6 release, rawstudio ships some icons to symbolise photo
transformations and priorities. The debian package doesn't install them
resulting in interface usability problems as these icons are replaced
by the stock GTK "missing/broken" icon.

installed resources.

Bug#440256: cups don't do language negotiation

2007-09-02 Thread Lu Xuxiao
I experiment to toggle some fields in firefox' http request, and
find that it's the Accept-Language field which break ipp down.
Further dig into scheduler/client.c make it clear that cups
do not treat Accept-Language field completely, it just take
the first candidate from the priority list. So if your highest
priority language is broken or absent in cupsys, your http request
may fail in some condition.

The work around include use en (or any other working language in cupsys)
as your highest priority language, or modify scheduler/client.c
yousrself to make it stick to a working language.

Bug#440185: FW: new install won't boot completely

2007-09-02 Thread David Wilkins
Thanks for all the suggestions.

No luck with + or -.

I also ran through the reconfiguration for X (dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg)
but I just accepted all the defaults as they seemed reasonable and I didn't
know any better. End result is probably that I'm still running same
configuration.

As requested by Otavio, I have attached the output of lspci -nn in the hope
that this will help diagnosis.

Yes, that proves my guess. You're having trouble with X.

When your screen gets black, please go to console 2 (Ctrl-Alt-F2) and
log in. After that, get the output of:

lspci -nn

And send it to the bug report so we can identify your video adapter
and its pci ids so we can try to work on that.

Another nice thing to do is to try to install Lenny and check if it
properly detects your video adapter. You can grab a mini installation
CD at http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/netboot/mini.iso
or you can upgrade your system (new install is eaiser) using aptitude.

Thanks in advance,
