Bug#466777: Eats a lot of cpu and blocks gui
Hey Michael, I'll try the new version (not sure though whether it will be possible before saturday. Thanks! One comment though: Am Donnerstag, den 21.02.2008, 22:39 +1100 schrieb Michael Lamothe: The EPG reader _is_ in a separate thread but GTK is not multi-thread safe, it is however multi-thread aware. The issue is that GTK really only allows 1 thread to update the UI at a time, that's why it appears to lock-up. I've made the EPG update yield its lock more regularly which I think gets around this issue. Why not switch from multiple threads to multiple processes. As I understand some processing of the EPG data is necessary. So do that in another threat an let the two processes communicate via a pipe or a socket. These two can be monitored by an gobject watch and you don't have to deal with threading locks. Not sure thought whether this would be trivial to be changed. Bug#464014: Applying for collaborative maintainance of phpgroupware
Package: wnpp Followup-For: Bug #464014 I'm not so sure if there's a procedure for applying in case of collaborative maintenance, but anyway, here we go. I volunteer for applying as co-maintainer of the package, together with Christian Bac [EMAIL PROTECTED], who should followup soon to this ITP. We are considering to restricting the list of packaged phpGroupware applications to fewer packages than there were in previous package, namely core or maintained apps first (refering to plans of upstream trying to setup some hierarchy in their codebase, as explained in http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/phpgroupware-developers/2008-02/msg00032.html). If the former maintainer (Andrew Mitchell [EMAIL PROTECTED]) was still interested, I'm sure we would benefit from his expertise, but he doesn't seem to be responding atm :( I hope we can help bring back phpgroupware into Debian, but this should only be possible as a collaborative effort in our opinion. Reusing bits of previous phpgroupware alioth projects could be interesting for collaboration maybe in order to allow easier takeover in case of need ? -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-vserver-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Probably the best instant fix is to just surround parts of T/ctst_99_64bit.c with #ifndef __s390__ or whatever. Can you please explain what this does? So it's basically two parts to that test case: 1) Makes sure you can't allocate more data than a Ustr can hold (Ie. just less than SIZE_MAX). 2. Bits using big_tst() ... this uses ftruncate() + mmap() to fake a Ustr that is just over (SIZE_MAX / 2) and then tests that adding it to itself doesn't work etc. ...I assume it's the big_tst() parts that are failing. -- James Antill -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.and.org/and-httpd/ -- $2,000 security guarantee http://www.and.org/ustr/ http://www.and.org/vstr/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. However, I found some issues in the debian/extra script which is responsible for enabling the additional packages. The development package for lame is called 'liblame-dev' in debian-multimedia.org and 'libmp3lame-dev' in debian-unofficial.org. It should be possible to rebuild gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly with either package. The resulting dependency on the shared library package should be considered, too. Furthermore I removed the link pointing to a homepage that supposedly offered Debian packages but does no more and fixed the link to the lame homepage. Please find attached a patch that fixes the aforementioned issues. Hi, thanks for your two patches. These will be included with the next upload. For gst-plugins-bad and -ugly, if you want add support for some new plugins too, like amrnb/wb or x264, etc. -- Dipl.-Phys. Bug#466867: openoffice.org: No Text for Vector Images in .doc files
Hi, Opening .doc files which contain vector images (e.g. from Visio) shows these images without text. The same holds for images drag-n-dropped from .doc files to .odp files. And you assume per default people have suitable documents like that? Please send one. BTW: I'm not really sure whether the problem really first was seen in 1:2.3.1 but it was definitely several weeks before 1:2.4.0~rc1. 1:2.3.1 is a bogus version, the BTS expects the debian-revision, too. Otherwise it's a non-existing version. And you have 2.4.0 rc1 installed currently and still file this bug, so I assume this also happens in sid with 2.4? Package: gtkpod-aac Version: 0.99.8+cvs20070222-0.0 Severity: normal The pref panel, although it uses canvas, can't be resized to fit actual screen size, it's min height is way larger than 800, even choosing a theme with 8px fonts. That way, some controls are avail only by panning the window. The expected behaviour, of course is that it should 1. auto-size according to screen size (i.e. *never* extend beyond screen size) 2. respect wm hints (eg in wmaker, don't cover icons, dock) 3. be resizable at user's needs. thanks -- paolo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Probably the best instant fix is to just surround parts of T/ctst_99_64bit.c with #ifndef __s390__ or whatever. I'm guessing there's some kind of alignment/padding on the struct Ustr ... it probably works anyway, if the struct is bigger, so you could try commenting that line out. Bug#466647: libnss-ldap: incorrect return code for getgrent()
On Wed, 20 Feb 2008, Jon DeVree wrote: The symptom that shows in id seems to depend on how many groups someone is in. So its not terribly easy to test for on an arbitrary system. So I wrote a different program to test for the bug. If it prints getpwent() errno = 2 after dumping the user/uid mapping then it hit the ENOENT error. Ah, thanks - that reliably shows there error here, even on systems where `id` appears to work fine. Did this perchance start with the move to the newer libldap ? I can reproduce it with: libnss-ldap_251-7.5etch1 - libldap2_2.1.30.dfsg-13.5 libnss-ldap_258-1+b1 - libldap-2.4-2_2.4.7-5 libnss-ldap_259-1- libldap-2.4-2_2.4.7-5 A good data point, thanks... so it isn't a new problem, 'tis odd that it hasn't been more widely seen (google/padl bug page/changelog don't seem to find anything relevant) ! I'll wager your earlier guess about this being related to an earlier problem is dead-on. If you want me to run a test slapd server of a different version I can, but that will take longer to setup. No need, I doubt it is slapd, but thought there might be something related to the newer libldap (and needed -DDEPRECATED for compiling). I've tested some other libnss modules and nss-ldap is the only one that gives an ENOENT when it hits the end of the list. I ran a test against libnss-ldapd, and it does not have this issue - one more advantage it has over libnss-ldap :) I'm not really setup to test any other libnss-* setups. I'll go make another pot of coffee, grab some copenhagen and pre-emptively take some advil before jumping back into the code it is not bad in spots, there just aren't enough of those spots :) -- Jon You're talking about a group of people who are paid large sums of money for their ability to communicate with inanimate objects made of melted sand. -NANOG :) Our signatures are on a similar train of thought -- Rick Nelson Electro my computer was once one of the building blocks of a great pyramid -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#466885: runit: no way to maintain non-default permissions on supervise directories
Package: runit Version: 1.8.0-2 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I think that the current practice of replacing any supervise directories in the service directory with links to /var/run is probably the right thing to do. However, this has the adverse consequence of not being able to maintain non-default permissions on supervise directories (if, for instance, it is desired to set looser permissions on service supervise directories so that non-privileged users may be allowed to check the state of a service). If using update-service, any permissions set on the supervise directories before they are added are removed when update-service removes the old supervise directories and replaces them with links to /var/run. When runit then creates the supervise directories in /var/run, it then does so with default permissions. At this point the permissions could be manually changed, but if the service is later removed from system-wide supervision and re-added with update-service, then the permissions will again be reset. Similarly, if /var/run is a tmpfs that is created at boot (as is the case for systems that use the RAMRUN=yes option in /etc/init.d/rcS), permissions set after the service has been added will not be retained across reboot. The supervise directories will be purged at shutdown and recreated at boot with default permissions. It occurs to me that the permission on the supervise directories *could* be set by the run scripts themselves. However, this kind of futzing by a service on it's own supervision seems a little undesirable to me. I'm not sure what the proper way to handle this is, though. The only thing I can think of at the moment is a runit configuration directive that can be placed in the service directory that tell the supervising daemon the permissions to use when creating the supervise directory if it's not there; something like: $ cat servicedir/service/supervise_perms 0755 $ I would be happy to have a discussion on the issue. I would like to figure out a solution, since it is occasionally desirable to make the supervise directories readable for non-privileged users (we use this in cereal[0], for instance). Thanks again for such great maintaining work on such a great package. jamie. It seems like this only happens on the terminal, running fish -l inside an xterm does not yield this problem This still works fine for me. So either my VT config is different and affecting the situation or your fish config is different and affecting the situation. Bug#465763: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#465763: Bug#465763: Bug#465763: cryptsetup: can't boot from USB device
On 18/02/2008 Piotr Roszatycki wrote: 2008/2/18, Jonas Meurer [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Yes, indeed this delay is implemented in udev package, at least in sid. Even that, I think this is not the best option because it is hard to guess how much time the USB device starts up. I think the safe option is to check if the proper device will appear as /dev/sd? entry. Piotr, what do you think about adding the check to the udev script instead of bloating cryptroot script with yet another delay? David pointed me to the fact that the proper fix would rather be to fix the udev initramfs script, not to add yet another delay option to cryptsetup initramfs script. The udev ROOTDELAY implementation already is at the right place, it just needs to be extended to actually check for existence of the device. I think the udev have completly no idea on what device is encrypted volume. Do you think the udev package should read /etc/crypttab file? If so, then please reassign this bugreport to udev package. Hey Piotr, you're right, the udev scripts should not know about /etc/crypttab at all. But still some issues exist with your patch. Here's the reply by David: I see Piotr's point, but there are still two issues: 1) The rootdelay would be implemented in no less than 3 places 2) Since udev uses it...if you set rootdelay to e.g. 20 seconds, udev will cause a 20 sec wait since root will be set to something like /dev/mapper/blabla and udev waits (if I remember correctly) for the device set as root to appear. So I still don't see the point in re-implementing it in cryptsetup...since you will get the maximum delay from udev long before the cryptsetup script is executed. Let's take an example...let's say you know it takes 10 seconds for your slow disk to show up. With Piotr's implementation (unless I misunderstood it), the minimum you could set rootdelay to would be 5 seconds (5 for udev, 5 for cryptsetup). If you do less, both will time out before the disk is ready. If you do between 5 and 10 seconds, you will get an optimal delay because udev will time out before the disk appears and cryptsetup will wait an optimum amount of time. If you set the delay to more than 10 seconds, you will still have unnecessary waiting since udev will wait past the time when the disk has already shown up. So the only effect is that if rootdelay is between 5 and 10 seconds, you can get the optimal waiting time of 10 seconds. Sounds like a tiny benefit to me. Not that I'm going to argue the point. I feel it's quite uninteresting :) If he is serious about it, perhaps it would be better to write a patch such that rootdelay could also (instead of) a time, specify a device path which would cause the boot to wait indefinately until said device path appears (say rootdelay=/dev/whatever). what do you think about it? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#466892: Pairing pin tool is missing
Package: bluez-utils Version: 3.24-1+b1 Hello, there is no tools for the command line supplied within the package, despite that passkey-agent is in upstream. This missing utilitiy renders the package almost useless when trying to pair with a device (e.g. headset) for console users. Admittingly passkey-agent isn't the most comfortable or best documented tool that is possible, but to the best of my knowledge the only one available that works with the command line. So please include it as a binary in the package and do not hide it under examples. Beside, mentioning running passkey-agent --default as a first aid to pair devices in the README.Debian would be a good idea IMHO. Bye, Joerg signature.asc Description: Digital signature

So, using editres I found that the widget class of the top window is GV (no surprise), and I added something like this to my .Xresources: GV*font: -*-nice-small-font-*- After the necessary propagation/restarting, gv came up with my nice small font in _some_ controls - but kept the ugly huge font in some others. After many other fruitless tries, I did this: gv*font: -*-nice-small-font-*- and this works! Given that the top window has widget name gv and class GV, how can the two settings not be equivalent? Bug#466711: [Python-apps-team] Bug#466711: Bug#466711: mayavi2: Cannot open any file with UTF-8
tags 466711 closed Hello Varun, I've just made a wild guess, and I think that maybe I found the error: I downloaded the example file that I've said using icedove directly, and the same error occured. Then, I downloaded the same file via wget - and worked! So I think that there is some problem with the download part of the icedove/firefox (the original test files were downloaded using firefox). Good news for mayavi2, but how can I submit this bug to icedove/iceweasel packages? Thank you very much for your patience. Unfortunately that is not necessarily the case, CTAN holds many packages which are non-free (not for sale, or commercial) When I had uploaded the files, CTAN was separated into a free and a non-free section. Maybe this was changed meanwhile or has changed its meaning... Furthermore, the TeX Catalogue which collects to some extend the license information holds license type='unknown'/ When uploading by a web-browser, I had selected LPPL in the mask. Bug#317773: LC_ALL=C foo, where foo is a shell function
On Sun, Jul 10, 2005 at 12:57:47AM +, Bart Schaefer wrote: I just noticed that, even in the latest build, if LC_ALL starts out set (even to nothing), but not exported, then when LC_ALL=C foo is run LC_ALL becomes and remains exported, even though its value gets reset to the previous state. There are two completely separate parts of the shell that restore parameters. There is one I wrote for function scope, and there is a second one that someone else wrote without taking any notice of the first one that restores parameters in this case. (Good job I never get bitter, eh?) This second one doesn't take account of restoring a special parameter when the local value is exported and the old value isn't. For specials there is always an entry in the table, so this applies even if LC_ALL isn't actually set. It should just be a case of removing stuff from the environment if we know it shouldn't be there. I can't see any cases when this would be wrong, anyway. (There are POSIX exceptions, which I don't think cover LC_ALL anyway, where the value is preserved after the function call, but none that would force an export to be inconsistent with the local value.) Bug#465287: This is not a major issue
severity 465287 important thanks Hi, This is the offending line: result = (char *)selinux_default_type_path(); Which results in: Function `selinux_default_type_path' implicitly converted to pointer at selinuxswig_wrap.c:7457 However, the function is defined as: const char *selinux_default_type_path() { return get_path(DEFAULT_TYPE); } So the actual definition does return a pointer; and the cast merely casts away the const. Bug#466897: warzone2100: Briefings not displayed at high resolutions
Package: warzone2100 Version: 2.1.0~1.beta1-1 Severity: normal Warzone 2100 ceased displaying the mission objectives to me, apparently with the latest upload. I get the background briefings (displayed on a black background, since I presume the original videos haven't been liberated), but the actual orders do not appear, and I get an empty box with only Briefing commences at the top. I thought it was related to the fact that I progressed through missions, and maybe the objectives were only displayed for the first handful of missions, but that doesn't seem to be the case, since the Tutorial/Fast play mission suffers from the same behaviour (and I distinctly remember having played it and having seen objectives). I tried renaming my .warzone2100-2.1/ directory, to no avail. Further poking led me to a surprise: the default resolution for the game (800x600, or maybe 640x480) does display the briefings. But when I go back up to my usual 1680x1050, not touching other graphics option, they disappear again. All resolutions starting from 1280x960 exhibit the bug; 1152x864 and under work fine. I don't see how resolution could have an impact on displaying one particular piece of text (the others are okay, including the other pieces of Intelligence reports), but there you have it. I am not sure, maybe I should file a bug somewhere in the 'nv', 'nvidia' driver area. However, this bug seems to trigger with xfce4 only. Well, could you try in metacity or openbox, wich support xinerama pretty well? I have made a research and tried the following configurations for dual head so far: - nvidia driver (2 instances of the device) + Xinerama - this gives me satisfying performance, however the above bug occurs in xfce4 - nvidia driver + TwinView option (X.org's xinerama is disabled) - this works fine, however, the performance is VERY BAD. Moving windows around is fine. Switching desktop and redrawing of all windows on the freshly switched desktop is very very slow - nv driver - doesn't support dual head on my nvidia card, xrandr extension doesn't show all connected screens. I will take a look at the problem further here. Well, I guess the problem lies in nvidia driver. I use at work two nvidia-based cards, using xinerama, and it works pretty fine in Xfce (no bug like this). But this is using nvidia legacy. If anybody can think of a testcase, to duplicate the issue in a different environment than xfce4, I would be more than happy to try that. I am attaching the two configurations + xrandr output of the twinview one + relevant X.org logs. Bug#466899: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes
Package: tse3 Version: 0.3.1-4.1 Severity: important Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3 Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler other than GCC). There's some more information about this at http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.3/porting_to.html You can reproduce this problem with gcc-4.3 from unstable. Bug#466768: git-buildpackage: snapshots don't work when using export-dir
On 2/21/08, Guido Günther [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, this comes from then notion that export-dir means build the last committed tree because I want a 100% clean build (to upload) but snapshot means I need a quick version to test with. I could make the two options incompatible but this isn't a nice solution. I'd rather add something to let export-dir take the current state of the working copy instead of the tree. As a temporary workaround, is there a way to unset export-dir on the command-line? Since I have it set in my ~/.gbp.conf file I would need to unset it for the special case of building a snapshot. Thanks, Cameron
