Bug#487404: dont copy code from laptop-detect
[Petter Reinholdtsen] I guess we could move it to run after base-installer, and avoid the problem completely. We would then need to extract the current tasksel setting and replace it with one including the two laptop tasks. A problem with running laptop-detect after base-installer, is that this make it impossible to adjust the partitioning on laptops. I would like us to create encrypted filesystems / LVM physical volumes on laptops, and for that to work we need to detect laptops very early in the installation, before base-installer is executed. Bug#491401: Ignore default/ntpdate.dhcp and ntp.conf.dhcp by default?
Package: etckeeper Version: 0.17 Severity: wishlist My git log contains a bunch of spurious changes to automatically-generated files. The most commonly changed files in my repo are: $ cd /etc sudo git log --raw | grep ^: | cut -c 40- | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr -k 1 | head -20 320 .metadata 112 resolv.conf 98 ntp.conf.dhcp 98 default/ntpdate.dhcp 69 .etckeeper 63 mailcap 49 apt/sources.list 26 passwd- 26 passwd 24 emacs-snapshot/site-start.d/00debian-vars.elc 22 shadow 22 network/interfaces 19 wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf 18 gshadow- 18 group- 18 group 18 alternatives/c++ 17 gshadow 14 shadow- 14 sgml/catalog Recording auto-generated files bloats my git log and makes it harder to find deliberate changes. I could probably fix this on a per-machine basis with some sort of .gitignore, but if a file is going to be auto-generated on *all* hosts, it seems to me that etckeeper should ignore it by default (i.e. out of the box). In particular the files ntp.conf.dhcp and default/ntpdate.dhcp are auto-generated on any host that has them (the same is NOT true for resolv.conf). Other files that might be worth ignoring OOTB are: - shadow files (those ending in a hyphen) - compiled elisp byte-code (.elc) - alternatives (since they are managed by /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives) - sgml/catalog file -- whatever that is; and - X11/xdm/authdir/authfiles/* -- this appears to contain randomly named MIT cookie files. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_AU.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages etckeeper depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.22 Debian configuration management sy ii git-core 1:1.5.6.2-1 fast, scalable, distributed revisi ii mercurial1.0.1-2 Scalable distributed version contr etckeeper recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * etckeeper/unclean: true etckeeper/commit_failed: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If you are possitive it's the compiler I would suggest that you file an upstream bug-repport as describe in: /usr/share/doc/gcc-4.3/README.Bugs On Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 9:03 AM, Jasen Betts [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: gcc-avr Version: 1:4.3.0-2 Severity: important File: /usr/bin/avr-gcc I put a small piece of code that does uint8_t division (modulo (%) operator actually) in a function and called it from an isr this worked fine until I started making heavy use of modulo and division in the main part of the program - suddenly the main part stops working moving the modulo operation into the ISR caused the bug to go away. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_NZ.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_NZ.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gcc-avr depends on: ii binutils-avr 2.18-3 Binary utilities supporting Atmel' ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgmp3c2 2:4.2.2+dfsg-3 Multiprecision arithmetic library ii libmpfr1ldbl 2.3.1.dfsg.1-2 multiple precision floating-point gcc-avr recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Håkan Ardö -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#318165: lynx: FORM filenames are not properly encoded
On 2005-07-13 Frederic Briere [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: lynx Version: 2.8.5-2 Severity: normal When doing a file upload, lynx pastes the filename as-is, even if it includes non-ASCII characters. However, RFC 1521 states that in no event are headers (either message headers or body-part headers) allowed to contain anything other than ASCII characters. RFC 1867 says that the filename might be approximated or encoded using the method of RFC 1522. It doesn't mandate any particular encoding, though, so that makes it rather useless. FWIW, all the other browsers out there (IE, Mozilla, Opera) don't bother at all, and merely encode the filename the same way as the other fields. (Standards? We don't need no stinkin' standards!) Please mention such things explicitly as it is a rather fundamental change. Also, it's the only part of the change I have problems with. I'd very much prefer to continue using the default recipes for i386/amd64 as it is the only real way we can be sure the default recipes get tested. Especially regarding some include files and defines. Many problems have been solved (however mostly on other archtectures. One problem remain that that is in the file lnx_axp.c. Before my changes it had a '#include asm/pci.h' directive. The file asm/pci.h do not exist on alpha so I removed that line with a #if ! defined(__alpha__). However after that change it can not find some variable names that it needs. I do not know how to solve that now if asm/pci.h can still not be found on alpha. If anyone have a good suggestion, please let me know. Bug#489889: iceweasel-firegpg: should Disable FireGPG Automatic Updates be checked by default?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, One strategy of providing this plugin is to make it easier for people to do the initial install of the plugin - and then let the plugin itself manage the upgrades. If this is the strategy, then the default setting makes a lot of sense. Yes, that of course why there is this option. I strongly suggest to lets this feature activated, as firefox|iceweasel updates check can take a lot of time, a debian update too, and sometimes when need to update the plugin relay fast (obviously for security problems...). The problem is will a firefox update make conflicts with an debian update ? How the both ways works together ? (How it's works for another addons ?) Bug#491393: gv Error: incompatible resources.
On Sat, 19 Jul 2008, Bernhard R. Link wrote: * Tim Connors [EMAIL PROTECTED] [080719 07:35]: The last couple of gv changelog entries look suspicious, and if my ~/.gv file contains any entries whatsoever (no matter what they are), I get the following: gv year-Trange.eps gv Error: incompatible resources. One of the files /usr/share/gv/gv_system.ad /home/tconnors/.gv belongs to an older version of gv and can not be used. Please remove or update the outdated file. The error message means that your ~/.gv is too old and needs to be deleted/moved away for gv to work. (gv got some new special magnifications) Except that any content in ~/.gv seems enough to trigger that error, which is not very... elegant. I grabbed individual lines from the file, and they were enough to trigger the failure. Strangely, the newly generated .gv doesn't seem that much different. Sadly I see not much possiblity to improve that situation easily. Perhaps a more suggestive error message might perhaps help? Regenerating preferences is a pain. If this is going to happen at some future upgrades, then perhaps some thought needs to be given to how to aleviate such incompatibilities. Attempting to parse an old version and converting to a new version would be welcome behaviour, although I don't know whether the Xresources style format would allow that. -- TimC If American bicycle advocacy leaders had championed the civil rights movement, the Dream would have been reserved seating in the back of the bus. - Jack R. Bug#489889: iceweasel-firegpg: should Disable FireGPG Automatic Updates be checked by default?
Hi! I agree with you. And update doesn't conflict with Debian. I will explain it: when you install the iceweasel firegpg in Debian, this package is put in /{usr,var}/foo. When you make an update, the new code is put in user home dir. Then FireGPG uses the newest version. Aren't conflict because the codes are in different places. But then again this login managers are not installed by default. Someone installing xdm can also still use the group based policies, imho. Bug#286735: filtering in chkrootkit
Package: chkrootkit Version: 0.47-1.1 Followup-For: Bug #286735 I've also done something similar, but I have used sed to change output rather than just deleting it. In any case, I suggest keeping the raw output from chkrootkit in, say, $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw and putting post-filtering results in $LOG_DIR/log.today the diff is then diff -u $LOG_DIR/log.today $LOG_DIR/log.expected (the attached patch hardcodes the sed thing, but following the approach of using a variable seems better) -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16.29-xen Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages chkrootkit depends on: ii binutils 2.17-3The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.11etch1 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13etch5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii net-tools 1.60-17 The NET-3 networking toolkit ii procps 1:3.2.7-3 /proc file system utilities chkrootkit recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * chkrootkit/run_daily: true * chkrootkit/diff_mode: false * chkrootkit/run_daily_opts: -q --- /root/keep/etc-_-cron.daily-_-chkrootkit.orig 2006-03-19 23:31:06.0 + +++ /etc/cron.daily/chkrootkit 2008-06-07 12:34:41.0 +0100 @@ -20,6 +20,35 @@ cat $LOG_DIR/log.new fi mv $LOG_DIR/log.new $LOG_DIR/log.old +elif [ $DIFF_MODE = filtered ]; then + $CHKROOTKIT $RUN_DAILY_OPTS $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw 21 + # the sed expression replaces the messages about /sbin/dhclient3 /usr/sbin/dhcpd3 + # with a message that is the same whatever order eth0 and eth1 were scanned + sed -r 's,eth(0|1): PACKET SNIFFER\((/sbin/dhclient3|/usr/sbin/dhcpd3)\[[0-9]+\]\),eth\[0|1\]: PACKET SNIFFER\([dhclient3|dhcpd3]{PID}\),' $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw $LOG_DIR/log.today +if [ ! -f $LOG_DIR/log.expected ]; then + echo ERROR: No file $LOG_DIR/log.expected + echo This file should contain expected output from chkrootkit + echo + echo Today's run produced the following output: + echo --- [ BEGIN: cat $LOG_DIR/log.today ] --- + cat $LOG_DIR/log.today + echo --- [ END: cat $LOG_DIR/log.today ] --- + echo + echo To create this file containing all output from today's run, do (as root) + echo # cp -a $LOG_DIR/log.today $LOG_DIR/log.expected + echo # (note that unedited output is in $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw) + elif ! diff -q $LOG_DIR/log.expected $LOG_DIR/log.today /dev/null 21; then + echo ERROR: chkrootkit output was not as expected. + echo + echo The difference is: + echo ---[ BEGIN: diff -u $LOG_DIR/log.expected $LOG_DIR/log.today ] --- + diff -u $LOG_DIR/log.expected $LOG_DIR/log.today || true + echo ---[ END: diff -u $LOG_DIR/log.expected $LOG_DIR/log.today ] --- + echo + echo To update the expected output, run (as root) + echo # cp -a -f $LOG_DIR/log.today $LOG_DIR/log.expected + echo # (note that unedited output is in $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw) +fi else $CHKROOTKIT $RUN_DAILY_OPTS fi
