This makes lynx unusable as a HTTP*S* browser.

(In a text window, that is.)

I've tried few https: sites, with the same result. w3m or firefox groks
them ok. Particularly, there *was* a Common Name in those certificates.

 Cheers,

This still seems to apply to the lynx-cur codebase, the message has
changed though from

to

Bug#491396: acpi-support: /etc/acpi/battery.d is ignored on newer kernels

2008-07-19 Thread Jeff King
Package: acpi-support
Version: 0.109-5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Newer kernels have disabled the /proc interface to power management,
leaving only the /sys. However, the /etc/acpi/power.sh script makes a
decision about running the scripts in battery.d by looking for ac
adapters in /proc (this also affects the running of scripts in ac.d).

The patch below fixes it for me (but this is the first time I have ever
done anything with the /sys power interface, so I don't know how correct
the method for finding ac adapters is).

Bug#491399: /usr/bin/avr-gcc: calling functions with division from an isr

2008-07-19 Thread Jasen Betts
Package: gcc-avr
Version: 1:4.3.0-2
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/avr-gcc

I put a small piece of code that does uint8_t division (modulo (%)
operator actually) in a function and called it from an isr
this worked fine until I started making heavy use of modulo and division
in the main part of the program - suddenly the main part stops
working

moving the modulo operation into the ISR caused the bug to go away.

Bug#487404: dont copy code from laptop-detect

2008-07-19 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Petter Reinholdtsen]
I guess we could move it to run after base-installer, and avoid the
problem completely. We would then need to extract the current
tasksel setting and replace it with one including the two laptop
 tasks.

A problem with running laptop-detect after base-installer, is that
this make it impossible to adjust the partitioning on laptops. I
would like us to create encrypted filesystems / LVM physical volumes
on laptops, and for that to work we need to detect laptops very early
in the installation, before base-installer is executed.

Happy hacking,

Bug#491401: Ignore default/ntpdate.dhcp and ntp.conf.dhcp by default?

2008-07-19 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: etckeeper
Version: 0.17
Severity: wishlist

My git log contains a bunch of spurious changes to
automatically-generated files. The most commonly changed files in my
repo are:

$ cd /etc sudo git log --raw |
  grep ^: | cut -c 40- | sort |
  uniq -c | sort -nr -k 1 | head -20

320 .metadata
112 resolv.conf
 98 ntp.conf.dhcp
 98 default/ntpdate.dhcp
 69 .etckeeper
 63 mailcap
 49 apt/sources.list
 26 passwd-
 26 passwd
 24 emacs-snapshot/site-start.d/00debian-vars.elc
 22 shadow
 22 network/interfaces
 19 wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
 18 gshadow-
 18 group-
 18 group
 18 alternatives/c++
 17 gshadow
 14 shadow-
 14 sgml/catalog

Recording auto-generated files bloats my git log and makes it harder
to find deliberate changes. I could probably fix this on a
per-machine basis with some sort of .gitignore, but if a file is going
to be auto-generated on *all* hosts, it seems to me that etckeeper
should ignore it by default (i.e. out of the box).

In particular the files ntp.conf.dhcp and default/ntpdate.dhcp are
auto-generated on any host that has them (the same is NOT true for
resolv.conf). Other files that might be worth ignoring OOTB are:

- shadow files (those ending in a hyphen)
- compiled elisp byte-code (.elc)
- alternatives (since they are managed by /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives)
- sgml/catalog file -- whatever that is; and
- X11/xdm/authdir/authfiles/* -- this appears to contain randomly
  named MIT cookie files.

On www.debian.org/devel at Work in progress the links to the PTS,
Incoming system and the experimental distribution are
to /doc/developers-reference/ch-resources which doestn't exist anymore.
They should probably link now to .../resources.html

Incoming System should be:

PTS:
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/resources.html#pkg-tracking-system

Unfortunately there's no direct anchor to the experimental distribution

Have you done anything odd to your dbus config?

Bug#451478: i confirm reading source

2008-07-19 Thread Maurizio Marini
i would confirm what the mantainer guillem
wrote and i would add that without this feature inetd is useless

i have plesk 8.4 installed on a debian etch

i have to raise number of connections per minute otherwise mailman cause:
Jul 18 12:26:19 ns1 inetd[21653]: smtp/tcp server failing (looping), service
terminated

i have installed inetutils-inetd that provide:
inetd superserver

using man inted i see:
 wait/nowait[.massimo]

but reading the source i see:

  if (strcmp (argv[INETD_WAIT], wait) == 0)
sep-se_wait = 1;
  else if (strcmp (argv[INETD_WAIT], nowait) == 0)
sep-se_wait = 0;
  else
{
syslog (LOG_WARNING, %s:%lu: bad wait type,
  file, (unsigned long) *line);
}

so, a .max is not supported and when i try to configure them into inetd.conf,
in syslog i see:
Jul 18 13:20:39 ns1 inetd[29568]: /etc/inetd.conf:47: bad wait type

i replaced inetutils-inetd with openbsd-inetd

Changing the postinst to mention time.info.gz (instead of time) fixed the

Hi,

Bug#491399: /usr/bin/avr-gcc: calling functions with division from an isr

2008-07-19 Thread Hakan Ardo
Hi,
in a realtime system, this kind of behaviour can be caused by a lot of
things and it's not at all clear that it's the compiler. If you are
possitive it's the compiler I would suggest that you file an upstream
bug-repport as describe in:

  /usr/share/doc/gcc-4.3/README.Bugs

I put a small piece of code that does uint8_t division (modulo (%)
operator actually) in a function and called it from an isr
this worked fine until I started making heavy use of modulo and division
in the main part of the program - suddenly the main part stops
 working

moving the modulo operation into the ISR caused the bug to go away.

Bug#318165: lynx: FORM filenames are not properly encoded

2008-07-19 Thread Andreas Metzler
On 2005-07-13 Frederic Briere [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Package: lynx
 Version: 2.8.5-2
 Severity: normal

When doing a file upload, lynx pastes the filename as-is, even if it
includes non-ASCII characters. However, RFC 1521 states that in no
event are headers (either message headers or body-part headers) allowed
to contain anything other than ASCII characters.

RFC 1867 says that the filename might be approximated or encoded using
the method of RFC 1522. It doesn't mandate any particular encoding,
though, so that makes it rather useless.

FWIW, all the other browsers out there (IE, Mozilla, Opera) don't bother
at all, and merely encode the filename the same way as the other fields.
(Standards? We don't need no stinkin' standards!)

This is supposed to be fixed in newer versions, especially the one
currently available in sid (2.8.7dev9-1.2).

Bug#491309: linux-2.6: Kernel supports only 32 cpu's

 machines will
become common hardware during the Lenny lifecycle. 32-bit machines are
 expected in
 6 months.

Setting it to 255 needs 2MiB of image size and unswappable memory.

|textdata bss dec hex filename

It adds 32 interrupt vectors (a 32 bytes or so) for each new cpu into
the data section, maybe this can be changed to dynamic allocation some
time as this does not look like a critical path.

I don't think this is exchange of different resources. I know there are
already machines with nearly 200 cores out there and even Xen choked on
them. Maybe setting it to 64 will be okay for now.

Bug#472192: lynx: please move documentation to lynx-doc package

2008-07-19 Thread Andreas Metzler
On 2008-03-22 Jari Aalto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Package: lynx

Please separate runtime from the documentation by moving doc/ files to
separate package lynx-doc. The currently files take unnecessary space
on small systems where manual page will suffice:

 $ for i in $(dpkg -L lynx | grep doc/); do [ -f $i ]  ls -l $i ; done | awk
 '{sum += $5}END{print sum}'
 930962

Hello,

in lynx-cur the docs are gzipped:
(SID)[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ for i in $(dpkg -L lynx-cur | grep doc/); do [ -f
$i
 ] ls -l $i ; done | awk '{sum += $5}END{print sum}'
538082

Given that the whole package has 4684 KB installed size and that the
manpage does not list the basic keybindings, IMHO splitting off lynx
documentation would be the wrong thing to do.

Nope, this does not seem the proper fix. It looks in some cases when upgrading
fam it is not stopped and you run into this problem, so you have to finish the
installation by hand (stopping fam and running dpkg --configure), no idea
where is the issue exactly but i have met another user with the same problem
after upgrading to 2.7.0-13.3 too, so it might be worth it check the lastest
NMU.
And http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=377039 seems to be a
similar issue.

Could be this considered as seriuos?

 The icon internet-web-browser does exist.

In version 2.8.7dev9-1.1 lynx switched over to the lynx-cur codebase,
based on the lynx-cur packaging. lynx-cur does not ship a desktop
file. I am wondering whether this is the right thimg to do, lynx-cur
already correctly registers itself as mime handler and adds a item
to Debian menu.

Bug#491428: Asterisk don't recive SIP request while communication with DNS

Hi,

When Asterisk have open connection to DNS serwer (in ESTABLISHED state) he
don't recive incoming SIP request (sending request neither to be show in sip
debug), though he have open 5060 udp port.

This is problematic for example when Asterisk have register directive in
sip.conf (to oudside SIP serwer) and ISP is down, becouse preclude register
internal sip phone in Asterisk (registration failed: 408 Request Timeout).

In older asterisk version problem exist too.

Problem can be simulated via drop DNS reply in iptables:
iptables -I INPUT -p udp --sport 53 -j DROP
on asterisk server.

 gv Error: incompatible resources.
 One of the files
 /usr/share/gv/gv_system.ad

belongs to an older version of gv and can not be used.
Please remove or update the outdated file.

The error message means that your ~/.gv is too old and needs to be
deleted/moved away for gv to work.
(gv got some new special magnifications)

Sadly I see not much possiblity to improve that situation easily.
Perhaps a more suggestive error message might perhaps help?

The problem is, the key I have to enter to allow the cookie to be set, is 'Y'

This is strange, 484250 looks like an exact duplicate of 119751,

Bug#491376: recipe for BIOS-based boot on gpt

On Saturday 19 July 2008, Robert Millan wrote:
This patch adds a recipe for creating a BIOS boot partition when
installing on GPT. Note the amd64 directory is not included with the

 copying it).

I assume that you did an 'svn cp' again to create recipes-i386? Please
mention such things explicitly as it is a rather fundamental change.

Also, it's the only part of the change I have problems with. I'd very much
prefer to continue using the default recipes for i386/amd64 as it is the
only real way we can be sure the default recipes get tested.

If we do have to diverge, I think a good case could be made for adding
recipes-x86 rather then separate recipe dirs for i386 and amd64.

Cheers,

Bug#491433: Do not build on alpha...

2008-07-19 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Package: vnc4
Severity: important

I'm the maintainer of vnc4 and have tried to build the package on
alpha. Unfortunatly the build environment have changed a few times
since etch. Especially regarding some include files and defines.
Many problems have been solved (however mostly on other archtectures.

One problem remain that that is in the file lnx_axp.c. Before my
changes it had a '#include asm/pci.h' directive. The file asm/pci.h do
not exist on alpha so I removed that line with a #if ! defined(__alpha__).
However after that change it can not find some variable names that it needs.
I do not know how to solve that now if asm/pci.h can still not be found
on alpha.

If anyone have a good suggestion, please let me know.

Best regards,

Bug#489889: iceweasel-firegpg: should Disable FireGPG Automatic Updates be checked by default?

2008-07-19 Thread FireGPG - Maximilien Cuony

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

One strategy of providing this plugin is to make it easier for people to
do
the initial install of the plugin - and then let the plugin itself manage
the
upgrades. If this is the strategy, then the default setting makes a lot
of
 sense.

Yes, that of course why there is this option. I strongly suggest to lets
this feature activated, as firefox|iceweasel updates check can take a lot
of time, a debian update too, and sometimes when need to update the plugin
relay fast (obviously for security problems...).

The problem is will a firefox update make conflicts with an debian update ?
How the both ways works together ? (How it's works for another addons ?)

Regards,

Bug#491393: gv Error: incompatible resources.

2008-07-19 Thread Tim Connors
On Sat, 19 Jul 2008, Bernhard R. Link wrote:

The last couple of gv changelog entries look suspicious, and if my
~/.gv file contains any entries whatsoever (no matter what they are),

   gv year-Trange.eps
  gv Error: incompatible resources.
  One of the files
  /usr/share/gv/gv_system.ad
  /home/tconnors/.gv
belongs to an older version of gv and can not be used.
Please remove or update the outdated file.

The error message means that your ~/.gv is too old and needs to be
deleted/moved away for gv to work.
(gv got some new special magnifications)

Except that any content in ~/.gv seems enough to trigger that error, which
is not very... elegant. I grabbed individual lines from the file, and
they were enough to trigger the failure. Strangely, the newly generated
.gv doesn't seem that much different.

Sadly I see not much possiblity to improve that situation easily.
Perhaps a more suggestive error message might perhaps help?

Regenerating preferences is a pain. If this is going to happen at some
future upgrades, then perhaps some thought needs to be given to how to
aleviate such incompatibilities. Attempting to parse an old version and
converting to a new version would be welcome behaviour, although I don't
know whether the Xresources style format would allow that.

Bug#489588: closed by Frans Pop [EMAIL PROTECTED] (reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]) (Re: Bug#489588: Install report Medion akoye E1210 (MD96910))

2008-07-19 Thread Michael Kesper
Hi,

* Debian Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-07-17 10:24:10 +]:
As the system should be supported well with current daily builds of the
 installer I'm closing this report.

Sadly I must ask to reopen this bug.
Daily installer builds still immediately reboot after uncompressing the
initrd. (Read something like ABORT, but it really boots too fast).
Tried again with hd-media of 18th and 19th july.

Best wishes
Michael

Bug#489889: iceweasel-firegpg: should Disable FireGPG Automatic Updates be checked by default?

2008-07-19 Thread Eriberto
Hi!

I agree with you. And update doesn't conflict with Debian. I will
explain it: when you install the iceweasel firegpg in Debian, this
package is put in /{usr,var}/foo. When you make an update, the new
code is put in user home dir. Then FireGPG uses the newest version.
Aren't conflict because the codes are in different places.

Cheers,

Eriberto - Brazil

That still needs a login manager supporting *kit, I guess? (I mean,
users logging in with startx and people using xdm, slim etc., could they
use at_console?)

gdm/kdm support ConsoleKit. For startx, there is a possibility to either
patch xinit [1] or provide a Xsession.d script within consolekit (as
Ubuntu does it).
xdm and slim don't support ConsoleKit, so yes, they won't be able to
support at_console. But then again this login managers are not installed
by default.

Someone installing xdm can also still use the group based policies, imho.

not for lenny. neither nb6.0 nor nb6.1 do build with openjdk yet.

Are these problems documented somewhere?
I would be willing to help fix them if I am able.

Bug#286735: filtering in chkrootkit

2008-07-19 Thread Richard Lewis
Package: chkrootkit
Version: 0.47-1.1
Followup-For: Bug #286735

I've also done something similar, but I have used sed to change output
rather than just deleting it.

In any case, I suggest keeping the raw output from chkrootkit in,
say,

  $LOG_DIR/log.today.raw

and putting post-filtering results in $LOG_DIR/log.today
the diff is then

  diff -u $LOG_DIR/log.today $LOG_DIR/log.expected

(the attached patch hardcodes the sed thing, but following the
approach of using a variable seems better)
