Bug#516539: base: sk98lin doesn't exist; sky2 drops major UDP packets

2009-02-22 Thread Pol Danilov
Package: base
Severity: important

Using the following NIC:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E
Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 19)

major UDP packets are lost and the rest of TCP works at less than half
capacity.. for example, on speakeasy.net/speedtest normally i get about
5000 kB down, but now only about 200.

On the game 'tremulous', i normally see 200 servers listed, now only 6

On the game 'urban terror', i normally see 2000 servers listed, now zero

On Etch, I sucessfully installed the sk98lin module (to replace sky2)
which worked 100%, but am unable to do so now

Can someone please provide a precompiled binary package?

Bug#516540: libapache-mod-security: package name and package description suggestion

2009-02-22 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: libapache-mod-security
Version: 2.5.6-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

 I wonder why the package name falls out of the usual naming-schema that
apache2 modules use? Common practise is to prefix with libapache2 to
note that it's not for apache1 - which this package clearly is. The only
packages that start with libapache- currently seem to be transitional
packages and some perl packages that have their own tight set package
naming schema.

 Additionally, the long description is wrongly formated. Please notice
that when you want to have preformated text in your long description you
have to prefix it with two spaces at least. The asterisks you use are
though only refixed with one space which leads to quite awkward
renderings in package viewers that depend on that.

 Thanks. :)

Bug#516542: essential documentation of sample-client/sample-server missing

2009-02-22 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.22.dfsg1-23
Severity: normal

I wanted to try out the sasl-sample-client/sasl-sample-server. The man pages
describe all the options (thanks!), but the essential piece of information how
these programs communicate, namely by having the user copy and paste the
base64-encoding message strings back and forth, is missing. The source
distribution contains this information in the file doc/testing.txt. Please
install this file as documentation for the sasl2-bin package and make the man
pages point to it.

Bug#516543: lt-sample-client: Decoding data from base64: bad protocol / cancel

2009-02-22 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.22.dfsg1-23
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Playing around with the sasl-sample-client/sasl-sample-server, I always get
this:

$ ./sample-client -s test
service=test
Waiting for mechanism list from server...
S: Q1JBTS1NRDUgTE9HSU4gRElHRVNULU1ENSBOVExNIFBMQUlOIEFOT05ZTU9VUw==
lt-sample-client: Decoding data from base64: bad protocol / cancel

A similar report can be found here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+question/60325

The problem turns out to be that the newline at the end of the base64-encoded
string needs to be stripped off before the string is passed to the decoding
routine. According to Debian bug #400955, this was at some point made more
strict, so it probably worked in an earlier version, but it doesn't anymore.

A simple fix is to change the following lines, identical in sample-server.c
and sample-client.c, from

  result = sasl_decode64(buf + 3, (unsigned) strlen(buf + 3), buf,
 SAMPLE_SEC_BUF_SIZE, len);

to

  result = sasl_decode64(buf + 3, (unsigned) strlen(buf + 3) - 1, buf,
 SAMPLE_SEC_BUF_SIZE, len);

This assumes that the string always contains a trailing newline, which is
technically not guaranteed, but should be unlikely. (The input buf comes from
fgets().)

With this fix, I could get sasl-sample-client/sasl-sample-server working.

Bug#516545: ITP: eprover -- The Equational Theorem Prover E

2009-02-22 Thread Petr Pudlak
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Petr Pudlak d...@pudlak.name

* Package name: eprover

  Upstream Author : Stephan Schulz sch...@eprover.org
* URL : http://www.eprover.org/
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : The Equational Theorem Prover E

E is an automated equational theorem prover. That means it is a program that
you can stuff a mathematical specification (in first-order logic with equality)
and a hypothesis into, and which will then run forever, using up all of your
machines resources. Very occasionally it will find a proof for the hypothesis
and tell you so ;-).

Release 1.0 is the culmination of a long development phase. Important changes
vs. version 0.999 include the fixing of some bugs in definitional
clausification for large problems and general cleanup.

It seems you perform 2 syncs a day, but with times that implies 9 hours
pass before an update on the primary server reach your own server (6
hours between ftp.debian.sk and you).

In order to improve this (we now have 4 updates per day), the best
method is to setup push mirroring. That means ftp.debian.sk may tell
your mirror as soon as you can start the update, so that the 6 hours is
reduced to the minumum value.

This push mirroring method is described at
http://debian.org/mirrors/push_mirroring it uses ssh keys and need
cooperation between you and the admin of ftp.debian.sk, whose I gave you
the contact above.

I hope it is clear now, if not just ask us.

The explanation was:

Don, I cannot really understand what's going on.
I checked yesterday, in order to verify that the regression was
actually fixed. Everything seemed to be OK.

I revisited the URL today, and, guess what?
I again see Will Not Fix in all the gray-background titles.
And again, the summary says:

| Classification
|
| * 209 Will Not Fix

Now, I reloaded the URL once more and, guess what?
The regression went away again: everything looks fine.
The titles do not show any Will Not Fix and the summary says:

| Classification
|
| * 1 Patch Available
| * 8 Unclassified

One more update: I reloaded the URL one more time and...
The regression reappeared!
Will Not Fix in the titles and the summary says:

| Classification
|
| * 209 Will Not Fix

Another reload with my browser and the regression disappears again!!!

Is that a kind of magic? Or superstition? ;-)
I cannot really explain why this regression keeps appearing and
disappearing in a seemingly random manner!

Bug#497111: Failure in GateDeviceDeletePortMapping

2009-02-22 Thread Vianney Lejeune

Hi,

Thanks for the report and sorry for the delay in replying. Do you
always experience any similar slowdown as the OP described near the
same
time this message is printed ? Are you both handling the same
multiple
requests at the same time ? Is it easy to reproduce, and if so is
there

any anomalous mapping (present or absent) afterwards ?

Thanks

Nick

Hi,

	The problem is I use upnpd on a gateway (250 computers). Various
softwares use upnp, so I don't know if there are multiple requests as
the same time, neither slowdowns. It happens sometimes according to
the joined logfile.

I can conduct some tests if you want to, provided I can get the tools.

Regards,
Mr Lejeune

 Under lenny, the mod_auth config file is 05-auth.conf, not 10-auth.conf as in
 etch. As a result, if the module is enabled during the dist-upgrade lighttpd
 fails to start after the upgrade since it can't read the the now-invalid
 symbolic link in conf-enabled.

 Obviously this is simple to fix(delete the link and run lighty-enable-mod
 again), but it shouldn't happen.

That's odd because I'm pretty sure I rewrite the symlink if it exists...
unless you named it another way than the package does. I'll try to look

  dpkg-gensymbols. So it seems that the real bug here is that that
  command does not ignore the umask. And fixing it there seems
  better than adding an after the fact fix to dh_fixperms, so reassigning.

 dpkg-gencontrol shows the same behavior.

Fixed in git. Thanks for the report.

Bug#516551: Phones home, checking for updates

2009-02-22 Thread Florian Weimer
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 2.1.2-dfsg-2

The package contains code to automatically check for upstream updates.
It is less useful on Debian systems, so please remove it.

(Due to the user interface, there is also no way to opt out of the
first update check, but this is upstream's problem, I guess.)

Bug#516554: cannot read nor write preferences

2009-02-22 Thread W. Martin Borgert
Package: gksu
Version: 2.0.0-8
Severity: important

When I use gksu, e.g. gksu gedit, as non-privileged user in
Gnome the following text appears on the terminal:

(gedit:13007): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols
specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

Furthermore I get a dialog box:

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration
information for Text Editor. Some of your configuration settings
may not work properly.

Details

Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need
to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a
system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information.
(Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.)
(last line repeats multiple times)

I cannot use the gedit preferences (everything greyed out) and
when saving a text file, the dialog box appears again. Same
problem with other applications, e.g. gksu evince.

Bug#476274: spambayes: sb_imapfilter.py still broken in Lenny/Stable

2009-02-22 Thread Ivan Vilata i Balaguer
Package: spambayes
Version: 1.0.4-5.1
Followup-For: Bug #476274

The ``sb_imapfilter.py`` script belonging to the version Lenny/Stable does
still suffer from the misplaced ``from __future__ import generators``
error::

  $ sb_imapfilter.py --help
File /usr/bin/sb_imapfilter.py, line 89
  from __future__ import generators
  SyntaxError: from __future__ imports must occur at the beginning of the file

Simply moving the statement right after the docstring fixes the issue.
This fix is already applied in Spambayes' trunk.

It looks like Python 2.5 is pickier with the placement of future
statements. That's the reason why it worked under 2.4 but not under 2.5.

Bug#516556: debconf doesn't configure smtp_ssl

2009-02-22 Thread Giuseppe Iuculano
Package: email-reminder

Hi Francois!

With the default configuration I got:

BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/send-reminders line 171.
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/email-reminder exited with return code 2

debconf doesn't ask if user wants to use ssl connection, and doesn't set
smtp_ssl properly.

So at line 170 in /usr/bin/send-reminders:

if ($preferences{smtp_ssl}) {

^^^ This is always true, libnet-smtp-ssl-perl is in Recommends, and
send-reminders fails if isn't installed.

Cheers,
Giuseppe.

Bug#516555: CVE-2008-6059: missing access restriction

2009-02-22 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: webkit
Severity: important
Tags: security

Hi Mike,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for webkit.

CVE-2008-6059[0]:
| xml/XMLHttpRequest.cpp in WebCore in WebKit before r38566 does not
| properly restrict access from web pages to the (1) Set-Cookie and (2)
| Set-Cookie2 HTTP response headers, which allows remote attackers to
| obtain sensitive information from cookies via XMLHttpRequest calls,
| related to the HTTPOnly protection mechanism.

I am not quite sure that I understood the issue correctly, so I used
important as the severity. Maybe you could investigate the severity and
state your opinion?

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Cheers
Steffen

Upstream author has renamed some sadc options recently.
For the cron job the options are taken from the SA1_OPTIONS line of
/etc/defaults/sysstat file. To make sysstat work again, one needs to
edit the line and replace the -d option with -S DISK and/or the -I
option with -S INT.
Could you please do the above changes in to file and let me know if this
fixes your problem?

Bug#516557: amarok: FTBFS against libmtp-dev 0.3.6 now in unstable

2009-02-22 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.10-2

The libmtp package version 0.3.6 has been recently uploaded unstable. This
version had a shlibs bump libmtp7 - libmtp8. The API has changed and
amarok FTBFS against this version of libmtp.

You will find attached below a patch in a debdiff form that fixes the
problem. The package build fine but I did not test it, though.

I know that Amarok 1 is dead upstream but please apply this simple patch and
upload to unstable, otherwise the libmtp transition will be blocked.

  Also, if the script name ends in .sh, the script will be sourced in
  runlevel S rather than being run in a forked subprocess, but will be
  explicitly run by sh in all other runlevels.

 I went to write the patch for this, but I paused when I saw that the other
 part of this sentence (explicitly running such scripts with sh at other
 run levels) is implemented. The current /etc/init.d/rc runs the script
 directly if it doesn't end in .sh but runs it with sh if it does.

That's not an interface that has much merit either, it would be nice if we
didn't have to support it and we had the freedom to execute the scripts
directly.

 At least on my system, all of the scripts ending in .sh have a proper #!
 line and are executable, so this wouldn't make any difference there, but I
 wanted to double-check first before also removing that since it appears to
 be implemented.

I think all scripts in /etc/init.d/ must have a shebang line and be executable,
and be able to be executed directly. Executing .sh scripts explicitly by sh is
not something I see much value in supporting, Petter expressed similar
sentiment when I poked him on IRC.

Thanks, Kel.

Bug#502311: testsuite failures in glibc

 Now glibc apparently built fine on ia64, but it does not on i386.
 Here is the result from my local build with debuild:

All but one of these errors are fixed or ignored in 2.9-2, but the last
problem still occurs -- apparently only if a 64-bit kernel is running
and detectable. From my debuild log:

This does not happen if the build is run under linux32. The
corresponding error message looks like this:

Bug#516516: Provide all debug symbols

2009-02-22 Thread Vincent Danjean
Aurelien Jarno wrote:
 the debug package doesn't help anyhow when inspecting core dumps. It would
 be much useful if the package would provide the symbols for local
 variables and thelike to get the full backtrace with gdb. That's also
 what other debug packages of libraries do.

 The drawback of providing all symbols is that it makes gdb very slow to
 load all symbols, render it almost unusable.

Perhaps, the symbol file can be put in a non-standard location so that
gdb does not load it by default. And if it is really needed, the admin
just has to move or create a symlink to the file (or to load it explicitly
in gdb if it is possible)...

Bug#516566: For the GNOME menu, please use the Debian swirl instead of the foot icon

2009-02-22 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.24.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Dear GNOME maintainers,

I believe the Debian GNOME desktop could use some decent branding.
Please replace the foot icon next to the Applications menu in the
upper left corner with a Debian swirl. It is common practice in nearly
every other distribution to replace this icon with something
distribution-specific and thus provide some recognition value. Also, it
does not look redundant with the icon of the Debian submenu, since
nowadays this is disabled by default anyway.

Thank you so much for the effort you put in the Debian GNOME desktop!

Cheers,
Fabian

  Of course it would be better if you could get that daemon fixed, or write
  policy to allow it to run in it's own domain.

 how would tbe config look like and where ikt as to be placed?

 We could not fix anything at it, it is closed source :)

Without seeing the source I couldn't suggest a fix. Just avoid secret-source
software, it's bad all the time.

Bug#423233:

2009-02-22 Thread Thomas Adam
Hi,

This is not a bug. This is to do with how FVWM grabs the mouse during
certain operations. With a plain Move command as you have it, the
window is moved in the way you describe. To get the old
functionality back bind your actions in a function -- hence:

mouse 1 IFSTW 3 Move
mouse 1 IFSTW 23 Move

Becomes:

DestroyFunc MoveWindow
AddToFunc   MoveWindow
+ I Move

Mouse 1 IFSTW 3 MoveWindow
Mouse 1 IFSTW 23 MoveWindow

If it crashes, there should be a backtrace of the crash at the end of

Bug#516569: buildd-mail-wrapper should retry in case it can't contact wanna-build

2009-02-22 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: buildd.debian.org

Currently when buildd-mail-wrapper can't contact wanna-build (because
of network problems), it fails with a message like this:
Your mail could not be processed:
libg3d_0.0.8-2(unstable) check_state(Building Install-Wait Reupload-Wait):
version  registered as
Package libg3d_0.0.8-2 has target distributions unstable
for which it isn't registered as Building.
Please fix this by either modifying the Distribution: header or
taking the package in those distributions, too.

Instead of failing like this, it would be nice if it could just
retry that until the network is back up. It should atleast
make sure that the package gets uploaded anyway, either now or
when wanna-build is back.

buildd-uploader has a simular problem. I regularly see something like this
in the log file:
Feb 9 18:30:01 buildd-uploader: 1 jobs to upload in upload:
canto_0.6.0-1_amd64.changes
Feb 9 18:30:04 buildd-uploader: MLDBM error: Second level tie failed,
Resource temporarily unavailable at /org/wanna-build/bin/wanna-build line 312
Feb 9 18:30:04 buildd-uploader: FATAL: Cannot open database
Feb  9 18:30:04 buildd-uploader: uploaded-build failed with status 11/0
Feb  9 18:30:04 buildd-uploader: dupload successful.

But this is not really a problem, since it ends up uploading it anyway, it's
just not properly marked in the database.

I don't really see what could be going wrong either - /usr/lib/python2.4

What version of python-profiler do you have installed? This command

Perhaps it is worth checking that /usr/lib/python2.4 is actually a

The list of extra stuff could be:

--bugs
--patches
--changelog
--build-logs
--version-control

Other stuff could be added as more things pop up but these are probably
the most useful things to add.

Bug#516515: Segmentation fault

2009-02-22 Thread Bernhard R. Link
* Daniel Leidert daniel.leid...@wgdd.de [090222 02:20]:
 There is something seriously broken. I can easily reproduce the
 segmentation fault. I simply removed db/ pool/ dists/ to start with a
 clean directory. I ran the export and createsymlinks options and then

 reprepro -VVV --ignore=wrongdistribution -C test include sid \
  [..].changes

 creashes with a segmentation fault. A first backtrace is attached. I
 needed to compile libarchive1 with debugging symbols.

 Can you reproduce the problem?

Yes. The important part is having Contents-file creation activated.
(As it happens when reading the list of files in the .deb file).

 #2  0xb7eb90fc in __archive_read_skip (a=0x9971c68, request=5632) at
 libarchive/archive_read.c:1009
   bytes_skipped = 1024
   total_bytes_skipped = 1024
   min = 1024
 #3  0xb7ec503d in archive_read_format_tar_skip (a=0x9971c68) at
 libarchive/archive_read_support_format_tar.c:521
   bytes_skipped = -5193991323412506872
   tar = (struct tar *) 0x9973b30
 #4  0xb7eb83a9 in archive_read_data_skip (_a=0x9971c68) at
 libarchive/archive_read.c:532
   a = (struct archive_read *) 0x9971c68
   r = 5
   buff = (const void *) 0x0
   size = 1
   offset = 129009018072

Those numbers look strange. I'll investigate if this is a reprepro or
libarchive bug.

 Is this intentional, that the files are left in the pool?

When being terminated by a segfault, cleaning up is not really something
that can be reasonably done.

 Error 17 creating
 '/srv/archive/pool/test/m/mopac7/libmopac7-1gf_1.14-2_i386.deb': File
 exists

That looks like a bug, though. Reprepro should just delete unexpected
files in the pool. (As apt-methods are setup to download there too while
upgrading, and there is no control about what they do.

 JFTR: Downgrading libarchive1 to version to 2.4.17-2 helped.

Thanks for all your work in tracking that down,
Bernhard R. Link

Bug#516573: gnome-panel: launchers do not work anymore

2009-02-22 Thread Florian Laws
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.20.3-5
Severity: normal

After upgrading gnome-panel to 2.20.3-5, my launchers in the panel
do not react on left-click anymore, that is they don't start their
applications.

If I left-click on the launcher, the mouse cursor just turns into a
4-direction-arrow for as long as I keep the mouse button pressed.

As a workaround, I can still right-click and select Launch from
the context menu.

Bug#511332: Status?

2009-02-22 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Hey,

now that Lenny is out, there's really no need to refrain the asciidoc
update. It seems that you are quite inactive on asciidoc maintainance,
is there a problem (not enough time, something like that?).

Having this new upstream, and fixing the other bugs would be quite nice…

Cheers,

 Thank you for your quick reply. I am sure that was the reason -- the
 procedure helped,
 Gaupol and other affected programs work now, even though some still issue
 warnings about
 missing things. Most of the time those warning only appear the first time the
 programs
 run.

To python-cairo maintainer: Please note that that I didn't remove the
unreproducible and moreinfo tags as I cannot reproduce it. Another
user reported similar problem on #debian-python a while ago (I thought
he really messed something up in his system, reinstalling python-cairo
helped as well back then)

If you think there's everything ok with python-cairo, please reassign
this bug to python-central.

 It's taken me many hours to track this down, not sure the best way
 (well, possibly remove the dependency!).

 If you use qemu+ssh to a remote system, it calls nc -U
 /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock.

 a) it should probably call netcat instead (I know we keep 'nc' for
 backwards compatability, but I think 'netcat' has also been adopted
 everywhere now (i.e. by other distros)).

 b) -U is only supported by netcat-openbsd, not netcat-traditional
 (perhaps mention this in the 'details' error message?)

 c) not convinced what this actually does TBH - isn't that file 'owned'
 by libvirt - i.e. couldn't it just be 'cat'ted instead hence removing
 this dependency?

 Anyway, set to minor, just hopefully saving someone else some
 frustrations!
We do have a Recommends: netcat-openbsd in libvirt-bin exactly for
that so the only point left is improving the error message or am I
missing something?

Bug#516577: libarchive: skip segfaults when using archive_read_open

2009-02-22 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: libarchive1
Version: 2.6.1-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

When using the old archive_read_open function of libarchive, it calls
libarchive_read_open2 with skipper set to NULL. But that functions
always adds a function calling this one as skipper for source stream.
Which leads to segfaults when the program requests a skip.

I'm setting severity to serious to avoid it migrating to testing, as
it makes reprepro segfault, see #516515.

Attached is a patch which fixes the issue for me.

figure out what was going wrong - if the error that came back from the
exec was displayed it would have been a 2min job).

Bug#516545: ITP: eprover -- The Equational Theorem Prover E

2009-02-22 Thread Andreas Tille

Hi,

this seems like a nce target for Debian Science Mathematics
section. Petr, do you consider putting the package under
Debian Science team maintenance?

Kind regards

 Programming Lang: C
 Description : The Equational Theorem Prover E

E is an automated equational theorem prover. That means it is a program that
you can stuff a mathematical specification (in first-order logic with equality)
and a hypothesis into, and which will then run forever, using up all of your
machines resources. Very occasionally it will find a proof for the hypothesis
and tell you so ;-).

Release 1.0 is the culmination of a long development phase. Important changes
vs. version 0.999 include the fixing of some bugs in definitional
clausification for large problems and general cleanup.

I have found the answer :) You just have to download and install
xen-linux-system-2.6.18-6-xen-vserver-686 or (amd64)

This have to be an dependent, cause, the kernel is not usable if that

Bug#516515: splitting this bug into two, marking one as being a libarchive bug

2009-02-22 Thread Bernhard R. Link
package reprepro
clone 516515 -1
retitle 516515 reprepro: segfaults when reading .deb Contents with libarchive
2.6.1
retitle -1 reprepro: does not cope with left over files in the pool
severity -1 normal
block 516515 by 516577
close 516515
thanks

There are 3 issues here:

1) reprepro not deleting it's lock file on segfault.
I do not think there can be done much. If a segfault happens, the
database might be inconsistent, and more easily database and files in
pool can become inconsistent (Only way to fix this would to write my
own database including transactions with pool and dists files, but
currently I'm only enough annoyed about libdb to dream about this
regulary and not yet to actually write it).
So I think keeping that file there so people realize something has
happened and should run the checking commands is the best to do.
I.e: I think that is almost a feature...

2) reprepro not deleting left-over files in the pool when trying
to add those files and they are in the pool but not in the database.
I think this is a regression as earlier versions supported it.
I've given this normal severity.

3) reprepro is using archive_read_open which is buggy in libarchive
2.6.1. Luckily the bugs seems only to be triggered when getting file
contents. I've reported this as bug 516577 and mark 516515 as blocked
by this and closes (to note it is not a bug in reprepro).
This should keep the buggy behaviour out of squeeze and hopefully do
the right thing on the bug page.

Thanks again for your report and your analysis,

 Hello

 After upgrading to Lenny I found that my Exim4 configuration didn't work
 anymore. I use it as a spam relay which forwards mail to the actual mail
 server, so I use dc_relay_domains='*' and additional configuration which
 verifies the address using recipient callouts.

 Now I discovered that the problem was that update-exim4.conf replaces the
 asterisk with the filenames in /etc/exim4 in
 /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated.
 I was able to solve it by adding a backslash before the wildcard.

 It seems this bug was introduced sometime after the etch version (4.63-17).
 Otherwise, the upgrade worked really well so far (still got about 40 servers
 to do...)

Hello,
Using set -f in update-exim4.conf seems to hotfix this.

Bug#513796: php5-xapian: PHP license incompatible with Xapian

2009-02-22 Thread Olly Betts
On Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 11:55:49AM +0100, Sylvain Beucler wrote:
 This issue was raised upstream but hasn't been resolved (and
 probably can't at their level):
 http://trac.xapian.org/ticket/191

We managed to find the SWIG code contributor who added the code to SWIG
which was inserting the PHP 2.02 licence boilerplate into the generated
wrapper and he was happy to remove that, which means we no longer have
both GPL and PHP licences in the SWIG-generated source file, which was
the original report there. But as the later comments say, there are
still unresolved licence compatibility issues.

I'm afraid that ticket seems to have dropped off my radar after getting
that resolved - thanks for bringing it up again.

There's code in Xapian which the current developers don't own the
copyright to, so any solution requiring relicensing Xapian isn't
possible, or at least not in the near future (at some point all of that
code may get replaced).

 It would nice to:

 - check with debian-legal to confirm

Have you done so since filing this bug? (Sorry for the delay in
responding, BTW - I was away on holiday).

 - contact the PHP community so they convert these naming
   restrictions into a proper trademark, making the copyright
   license GPL-compatible (like other scripting languages)

I think it would need to be the PHP Group rather than the community -
it's them who own the copyright.

A trademark would indeed be a saner way to defend the name PHP (since
it would cover non-derived software too).

It's a shame they dropped the GPL dual-licensing that PHP3 had as that
would have made this a non issue.

Cheers,
Olly

Bug#516580: vim-gnome: Hang after ^Z/fg

I had a second look at this. When the bug happens, the backtrace looks like
this:

#9 0x08104dc9 in main (argc=Cannot access memory at address 0x0
) at main.c:954

On the other hand, when it doesn't happen, it looks like this:

#0  0xb8089430 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
#1  0xb73d7bb6 in kill () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6

#9 0x08104dc9 in main (argc=Cannot access memory at address 0x14
) at main.c:954

The difference is that in one case we call pause() from mch_suspend.
The relevant code looks like this:

# ifdef _REENTRANT
sigcont_received = FALSE;
# endif
kill(0, SIGTSTP);/* send ourselves a STOP signal */
# ifdef _REENTRANT
/* When we didn't suspend immediately in the kill(), do it now. Happens
 * on multi-threaded Solaris. */
if (!sigcont_received)
pause();
# endif

It beats me how we can get to pause(), but it happens and that's why you
need to hit Ctrl-C to resume. It seems to be a race condition, that's why
you don't get it every time. The code is unchanged in vim 7.2.108 in git,
so I'd expect this bug to happen there as well.

I can package eprover according to http://debian-
science.alioth.debian.org/debian-science-policy.html
this is no problem, but I'm not sure what to do next. Just look for a sponsor
at http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience/Sponsoring? Or request membership in
Debian Science at Alioth?

  Thanks for your help.

reprepro has locked /opt/reprepro/grip

Is this intentional in 3.8?

The output comes from the em_autogrip script that tries to update the
repository using a filter and emgrip processing. In some cases, errors
are expected but reprepro used to handle these cleanly and continue. The
presence of a lockfile now makes it difficult to automate multiple
reprepro calls because deleting a lock file by brute force is not a
particularly good idea but appears necessary.

I added the 'die' call specifically to catch this error. For now, I'm
having to implement a rm -f against the lockfile if it ever appears
during a run and try external methods to ensure that no other reprepro
commands are running at the same time.
