Bug#521528: libsane-extras: Please don't remove epkowa.conf if iscan package is installed
Package: libsane-extras Version: 1.0.19.15 Severity: minor Here I am trying to figure out why my scanner doesn't work *again*, and I discover that the recent upgrade of libsane-extras probably (from what I can ascertain from the changelog) removed the epkowa.conf config file that iscan needed to work. *sigh* It's like rubbing salt in the wound. Could you *please* check that another package, i.e. iscan, doesn't already claim epkowa.conf before removing that file, or at least check that iscan isn't installed, first? (Yes, I had to modify the iscan package's control file, removing the conflict, to get it to install. I'm sure I'm not the only one.) Bug#500342: Please support progress_indicator on scp uploads
Hi Chris, Apologies for the late response. On 08/09/27 16:06 +0100, Chris Lamb said ... The attached patch adds support for 'progress_indicator' on SCP uploads Updated patch attached; it was not adding '-v' when changing the file modes. This patch actually increases the verbosity of the ssh protocol messages (because of the -v switches) rather than the progress of the file copy itself. With upload method scp, currently the progress indicator (dput's progress) is sort of 'always on' and in case we want to modify the existing behaviour, what we may want to do is the following: - use the -q switch to scp in case of progress_indicator = 0 - use the current default behaviour in case of progress_indicator = 1 or 2 Does this make sense? I am afraid, with the patch in its current form, this bug would be wontfix. Regards, Giridhar -- Y Giridhar Appaji Nag | http://appaji.net/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#521534: Fails to produce linkable modules with kernels 2.6.28 and above ?
Package: module-assistant Version: 0.11.0 Severity: important Hello, While compiling the nvidia kernel modules using m-a build nvidia for recent kernels, a 2.6.28 make-kpkg-made kernel and the 2.6.29 official kernel that just hit unstable, m-a builds fine, but when I try to load the module, the kernel refuses the load the module, with an error in the style of: Mar 28 08:46:50 tanyaivinco kernel: [ 151.047863] nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module (this is for a 2.6.29 kernel, I don't have the logs for the 2.6.28) This is very annoying, as I simply can't use my graphics card properly without this module, which makes a recent kernel unusable. I'm unsure from where the bug is coming from: kernel ? nvidia-kernel ? or module-assistant ? Here is the rationale why I choose to report on m-a first: * nvidia-kernel works on older kernels (2.6.26 and older, I didn't check with 2.6.27), so it probably isn't the problematic one ? * both home-made kernels and official debian kernels has the same effects, so that probably isn't kernel-related? Bug#521507: fai-server: Using fai-mirror mirror causes make-fai-nfsroot to fail because of missing live-initramfs
Package: fai-server Version: 3.2.16 Severity: normal Hi, I created a local mirror using fai-mirror. I then attempted to use that local mirror with make-fai-nfsroot. It failed with the error live-initramfs was not installed inside the nfsroot. I've created a file LIVEINITRAMFS inside /srv/fai/config/package_config containing a dependency on live-initramfs. I'm testing it now to see if it fixes the problem. (I've got a slow computer, so I'll know in a couple of hours.) No, this won't help, it is missing in the NFSROOT. Which Debian distribution are you using? Further, please run make-fai-nfsroot -v and attach the output to this bug report. Thanks, Michael pgpFc2V1IMlqM.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#497050: This may be caused by module-init-tools
Hello, My system also hangs sometimes after the Cleaning up ifupdown message. This is displayed by ifupdown-clean, which mainly deletes a file, so the chance is little that it causes the hang. Moreover, if I press Ctrl-C, the following message appears: Will now check all filesystems, which is displayed by checkfs. Seth Lang sethl...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, After some more testing this problem is resolved temporarily by connecting the scanner to another computer running Debian Etch. When I run a scan under Debian Etch the scanner seems to reset (the roller that pulls the paper into the ADF resets back up to its normal position). After scanning (resetting) with Etch I can then connect this back to the other computer running Debian Lenny and it will work fine for a little while until after some more scans it happens again, then I need to repeat the process of connecting it again and scanning with Etch (or even worse a windows machine) or else the scanner will not work. There seems to be a function that resets the scanner in Etch that is no longer there in Lenny. That's very useful, thanks for taking the time to investigate! I'll try to look into that, but I can't promise a fix. Bug#521539: libgv-tcl: Tcldot render command prints canvas commands to stdout instead of returning
Package: libgv-tcl Version: 2.20.2-3 Severity: important Tags: patch Well, the problem from subject. It could be checked by attempting to run doted from graphviz examples on any example graph. Nothing will appear on screen, but canvas code is printed to console. Indeed, tcldot calls tk renderer, assuming that it will be tkgen.c code. That code have all the needed to return it's canvas paint strings to TCL. However, now tk renderer is also available from the common plugins of libgv. By default it just prints it's results to stdout. The simplest method of fixing it is to change name of internal tcldot renderer from tk to tkgen. Also, changed renderer type from API_render to API_device -- all other codegen_t renderers are API_device, and without it attempting to call gvjobs_output_langname would fail. Attached patch implements this method. There could be another way of fixing -- to add hook to gvc device to write all rendering results via Tcl_AppendResult in tcldot.c. This would allow to use standard tk rendering backend. However, this is less simple and, as I saw in tk plugin code -- it appears to have less features then tkgen. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.koi8-r, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.koi8-r (charmap=KOI8-R) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libgv-tcl depends on: ii libc6 2.7-18GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-7 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libexpat1 2.0.1-4 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.3.3-3 GCC support library ii libgd2-xpm 2.0.36~rc1~dfsg-3 GD Graphics Library version 2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.16.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgraphviz4 2.20.2-3 rich set of graph drawing tools ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libltdl3 1.5.26-4 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.5-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.27-2 PNG library - runtime ii libstdc++6 4.3.3-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxpm41:3.5.7-1 X11 pixmap library ii tk8.4 8.4.19-2 Tk toolkit for Tcl and X11, v8.4 - ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime libgv-tcl recommends no packages. libgv-tcl suggests no packages. -- no debconf information --- graphviz-2.20.2/tclpkg/tcldot/tcldot.c 2008-04-29 21:31:05.0 +0400 +++ graphviz-2.20.2.patched/tclpkg/tcldot/tcldot.c 2009-03-28 13:26:00.350041677 +0300 @@ -53,7 +53,7 @@ #ifdef WITH_CODEGENS extern codegen_t TK_CodeGen; -static codegen_info_t cg[] = { {TK_CodeGen, tk, TK}, +static codegen_info_t cg[] = { {TK_CodeGen, tkgen, TK}, {NULL, NULL, 0}, }; #endif @@ -1084,9 +1084,9 @@ } tkgendata.interp = interp; -rc = gvjobs_output_langname(gvc, tk); +rc = gvjobs_output_langname(gvc, tkgen); if (rc == NO_SUPPORT) { - Tcl_AppendResult(interp, Format: \tk\ not recognized.\n, + Tcl_AppendResult(interp, Format: \tkgen\ not recognized.\n, (char *) 0); return TCL_ERROR; } @@ -1672,9 +1672,10 @@ gvconfig(gvc, FALSE); #ifdef WITH_CODEGENS /* additional codegens */ -for (p = cg; p-name; ++p) -gvplugin_install(gvc, API_render, p-name, 0, cg, NULL, +for (p = cg; p-name; ++p) { +gvplugin_install(gvc, API_device, p-name, 0, cg, NULL, (gvplugin_installed_t *) p); +}; #endif #ifndef TCLOBJ
Bug#521521: Similar problem spoted
Hello, I had a similar problem on a system here. It had a custom .rules file to set fixed name of the interfaces (which was needed to solve the old Schroedinger interface game in ?2007?). The problem was gone after I renamed the custom file to be sorted after the 70-persistent-net.rules in the lexiconographic sort order. I think, the main reason for the confusion is the manpage: It tells you long story about sort order, but it does not tell you which file is prefered in that order. The first or the last one? Bug#521538: libgv-tcl: Tcldot libraries placed out of search path, Tkspline missed from pkgIndex.tcl
OOH! Some libgv-tcl user at last! Ilya Anfimov i...@astelecom.ru (28/03/2009): Package: libgv-tcl Version: 2.20.2-3 Severity: important Tags: patch Thanks. :) 1) Libraries are placed under /usr/lib/tcltk/graphviz/tcl/. While /usr/lib/tcltk in tcl libs search path, and it search one directory down of it's search path for libraries -- it misses Tcldot and other TCL package from this .deb without some manual intervention. Small change to debian/libgv-tcl.install fixes this problem Alright. I'll include it as soon as possible (provided I'm not getting caught in a transition from a release point of view). 2) The tkspline library, while correctly build, does not appear in pkgIndex.tcl file -- and there fore does not load in tcl by package require Tkspline Setting proper TK_PKGINDEX in configure.ac depends on variable $HAVE_TK, which never appears in any other part of configure. Changing it to $use_tk = Yes and re-running autoconf fixes the problem I might forward that to upstream and wait until it gets included in an upstream release, though (relibtoolization is always a PITA). Bug#521534: Fails to produce linkable modules with kernels 2.6.28 and above ?
Hello ! Cyril Brulebois wrote: While compiling the nvidia kernel modules using m-a build nvidia for recent kernels, a 2.6.28 make-kpkg-made kernel and the 2.6.29 official kernel that just hit unstable, m-a builds fine, but when I try to load the module, the kernel refuses the load the module, with an error in the style of: Mar 28 08:46:50 tanyaivinco kernel: [ 151.047863] nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module having an idea of which nvidia modules and versions you're trying to build and use would be nice. Of course... The source is from nvidia-kernel-source. The current unstable version does not work (180.29-1). I think the previous unstable one did not work either, but I unfortunately don't have the logs to confirm that. (this is for a 2.6.29 kernel, I don't have the logs for the 2.6.28) This is very annoying, as I simply can't use my graphics card properly without this module, which makes a recent kernel unusable. Same version? Exactly. Would you like a build log ? How shall I do that with m-a to make sure you get as much information as possible ? BTW, I don't know if that has anything to do with the rest, but: * I run m-a build as a normal user (member of src) * I install the resulting .deb manually as root with dpkg. Bug#521541: ITP: libscalar-string-perl -- Perl module for querying string encoding of scalars.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Ivan Kohler ivan-deb...@420.am * Package name: libscalar-string-perl Version : 0.000 Upstream Author : Andrew Main (Zefram) zef...@fysh.org * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Scalar-String/ * License : Perl Programming Lang: Perl Description : Perl module for querying string encoding of scalars. This module is about the string part of plain Perl scalars. A scalar has a string value, which is notionally a sequence of Unicode codepoints, but may be internally encoded in either ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8. In places, and more so in older versions of Perl, the internal encoding shows through. To fully understand Perl strings it is necessary to understand these implementation details. This module provides functions to classify a string by encoding and to encode a string in a desired way. -- _ivan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Raphael Geissert atomo64+deb...@gmail.com writes: This is what collection/file-index pipes to xargs which later calls file(1). Oh, okay. I guess you're adding the newlines for readability? Since unit_tests/virusaction-test.s does not exist file(1) fails which returns the error code that later aborts the check of that package. Right. Okay, I get it now. So for some reason we're still getting truncated file names out of the pipeline that's generating the list of files in the package, this time because there's no trailing newline. This is only affecting the very last line of the index? No, you are not. I've read multiple times the code in unpack/unpack-src-l1 and see no reason why the generated index has no trailing new line; I mean, sort adds it on its own even if missing! $ echo -n foo | hd 66 6f 6f |foo| 0003 $ echo -n foo | sort | hd 66 6f 6f 0a |foo.| 0004 So, like I said: chomp workarounds the bug by simply not removing the trailing character which in this case is *not* the, expected, line feed. Bug#521521: [udev] some additional informations
Package: udev Version: 0.140-1 --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi, i had some fun this morning, when no network device worked. My first thought wasn't udev to blame, but the 2.6.29, because it has some code that can fsck up the network. Well, its udev and here are my observations. First the original 70-persistent-net.rules, after udev 0.140 was started this morning: - # PCI device 0x10de:0x0373 (forcedeth) SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*, ATTRS{address}==00:17:31:8f:35:1d, NAME=eth0 # Firewire device 0011d8ce1bda (ohci1394) SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*, ATTRS{address}==00:11:d8:00:00:ce:1b:da, NAME=eth2 # PCI device 0x10de:0x0373 (forcedeth) SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*, ATTRS{address}==00:17:31:8f:44:80, NAME=eth1 # USB device 0bda:8187 (rtl8187) SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:15:af:04:c4:f6, ATTR{type}==1, NAME=wlan0 # PCI device 0x10de:0x0373 (forcedeth) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:17:31:8f:35:1d, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth3 # PCI device 0x10de:0x0373 (forcedeth) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:17:31:8f:44:80, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth4 - Now the interessting part, i moved the file away and restarted udev. Bug#521138: mirror submission for ftp.tcc.edu.tw
hi simon: Is that possible for you to make the archive available at the common path /debian/ ? That avoid mistakes of users, and allow us to build redundant mirroring easier. http://ftp.tcc.edu.tw/debian/ ftp://ftp.tcc.edu.tw/debian/ I wait for your reply about the path before adding the mirror to the list. Bug#521551: dpkg-dev: support for different types of deprecation (MISSING, DEPRECATED, PRIVATE)
Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.15.0 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hello, when writing a tool which deals with C++ symbols, I found that feature like this would be very useful. You will find the full description in the attached patch header (also copypasted below). Just to give you an idea of the real world usage for this: MISSING - current use of deprecated symbols. DEPRECATED - could be used for a few multiarch specific symbols which symbol file preprocessor could turn into normal symbols under certain conditions. (this is just an example, I know about that #include is different but limited way to do it). PRIVATE - C++ template instantiations and other exported private symbols (i.e. those which cannot be found in the headers). The patch is against current master branch. Patch description follows: -- Up until now, all deprecated symbols were treated equally as MISSING. DEPRECATED was a synomym of MISSING. This patch changes sematics of DEPRECATED a bit and adds a new type - PRIVATE. Also types are preserved between symbol file load() and dump(). Descriptions of the deprecation types follow: MISSING - the symbol is typically declared as MISSING if it can no longer be found in the object file itself. If that symbol reappears suddently, it gets undeprecated and its minimal version is bumped to the current version of the object. MISSING symbols are never removed from the symbols file automatically. MISSING used to be a default deprecation type in the earlier versions of dpkg, hence it is kept fully compatible. DEPRECATED - it is similar to MISSING with the exception that if the symbol reappears, its minimal version is kept as it is instead of being bumped. DEPRECATED could be used to mark symbols as optional for whatever the reason. dpkg-gensymbols will still display reappearing DEPRECATED symbols in the diff as it does with MISSING. PRIVATE - useful for marking private symbols which have been falsely exported to the dynamic symbol table by the compiler (e.g. C++). Private symbols are optional, they stay deprecated even if the object file actually have them and they get automatically removed from the symbol file when they disappear from the object file. DEPRECATED and PRIVATE are for manual or for 3rd party tool use. Dpkg::Shlibs::SymbolFile never changes symbol type to DEPRECATED or PRIVATE. It only marks symbols as MISSING as needed. The patch also adds 'export_private' option to dump() which allows to dump private symbols as normal ones (defaults to OFF). dpkg-gensymbols enables this option when exporting symbols files to DEBIAN/symbols but disables it when diff'ing. --- Also current master needs the fix below for man/po/de.po to build: diff --git a/man/po/de.po b/man/po/de.po index c8637d9..63aa7e0 100644 --- a/man/po/de.po +++ b/man/po/de.po @@ -9138,7 +9138,7 @@ msgstr #, no-wrap msgid IbinaryB contains an unresolvable reference to symbol IsymB: it's probably a plugin msgstr -IProgrammB enthält eine nicht-auflösbare Referenz auf Symbol ISymB: wahrscheinlich eine Erweiterung. +IProgrammB enthält eine nicht-auflösbare Referenz auf Symbol ISymB: wahrscheinlich eine Erweiterung. # type: Plain text #: ../../man/dpkg-shlibdeps.1:251 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=lt_LT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=lt_LT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dpkg-dev depends on: ii binutils 2.19.1-1 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii bzip2 1.0.5-1high-quality block-sorting file co ii cpio 2.9.90-3 GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii dpkg 1.14.25Debian package management system ii libtimedate-perl 1.1600-9 Time and date functions for Perl ii lzma 4.43-14Compression method of 7z format in ii make 3.81-5 The GNU version of the make util ii patch 2.5.9-5Apply a diff file to an original ii perl [perl5] 5.10.0-19 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-modules 5.10.0-19 Core Perl modules Versions of packages dpkg-dev recommends: ii build-essential 11.4 Informational list of build-essent ii gcc [c-compiler] 4:4.3.3-2 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.1 [c-compiler] 4.1.2-25 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.3 [c-compiler] 4.3.3-5The GNU C compiler Versions of packages dpkg-dev suggests: pn debian-keyringnone (no description available) ii gnupg 1.4.9-4GNU privacy guard - a free PGP

Quoting wy...@volny.cz (wy...@volny.cz): I'm not in position to check upstream's BTS, but I guess this is fixed in 3.3.*, right? No, i don't think so. But will be included in next samba release. It seems like everybody is trying to make us fix each and every bug found after 3.2.5slowly turning it into a fake 3.2.8...:-) My IQ led me to think myself, that if there is a bug, it should be fixed. But now i understand why the bug graph for stable only grows. Nobody is willing to fix stable and when there is enough bugs for stable, it's right time for new stable with just few bugs :-)) That is not exactly true. The Debian way to do things is to keep stable stable..:-). So, we generally fix release critical and important-enough bugs in stable. Most teams even only fix release critical bugs. When it comes at samba, we already did two updates to lenny packages, fixing 4 bugs that were judged as important. That's why, in the case of this very bug, we need to figure out its impact on users, to decide whether we fix it or not... What lead to my remark is seeing the quite high number of bugs that are reported while their reporters know they're fixed in pos-3.2.5 releases... If that bug is really severity normal, I don't really see enough reasons to tag it for lenny. It's fine for me not to fix it. I've read how to make own package and made patched one. What would be interesting is your input about the *potential* impact on users. I'd like to get more rationale to convince me that this is worth trying to fix this in lenny. I'm not going to do that. Severity is probably not higher than normal. PS: If sombody got pissed off by my second paragraph - sorry. It was just a stupid sarcasm. I'm satisfied Debian user and appreciate that so many peoples gives their spare time for such a good OS as Debian is. No problem. We like Debian users who report bugs. Sometime we mumble a little because we don't like too many bug reports at the same time, but that's fine..:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: debhelper Version: 7.2.6 Severity: wishlist Hi, I'd be nice if dh_installinit would parse the information of LSB headers so that: dh_installinit --lsb-headers --name=foo would do the right thing: generating an update-rc.d call that creates startup links in the runlevels given by the Default-Start and Default-Stop headers at default start priority 20 and stop priority 80 (update-rc.d's defaults). So an LSB header like: ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: ipmasq-kmod # Required-Start: # Required-Stop: # Default-Start: S # Default-Stop: # Short-Description: load kernel modules for ipmasq. Would generate an update-rc.d call in the postinst: update-rc.d ipmasq-kmod start 20 S . Bug#521557: live-initramfs: Include gpm
reassign 521557 live-helper tags 521557 +pending thanks Kurt Roeckx wrote: Package: live-initramfs wrong package, please report *build* time issues against live-helper. I'm using rescue version of the live image. One thing I'm missing is gpm. added, thanks. It also seems to contains some things I don't expect on a rescue image, like a dhcp server iirc, dhcp-server is disabled, so that's not a problem. or sysstat. what's wrong with that?
