Bug#602794: sugar-session-0.90 and sugar-tools-0.90: not installable in sid on any architecture

2010-11-08 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: sugar-session-0.90
Version: 0.90.3-1
Severity: grave
User: trei...@debian.org
Usertags: edos-uninstallable

Hi,

both sugar-tools-0.90 and sugar-session-0.90 ar not installable in sid on
any architecture, since

  sugar-session-0.90 (= 0.90.3-1) depends on missing: - python-sugar-0.90
  sugar-tools-0.90 (= 0.90.3-1) depends on missing: - python-sugar-0.90

As a consequence, sucrose-0.90 and sugar-emulator-0.90 are not installable
as well as these depend on sugar-session-90.

-Ralf.

Bug#602793: openjdk-6: fails to build on s390

2010-11-08 Thread Philipp Kern

2010-11-08 Thread Alfonso Maschio
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Try to change the heap memory of your Java VM.

1-Xmssizeset initial Java heap size
2-Xmxsizeset maximum Java heap size
3-Xsssizeset java thread stack size

For example, you can set minimum heap to 64 MB and maximum heap 256 MB for a
Java program HelloWorld.

[x...@xxx:~]$java -Xms64m -Xmx256m HelloWorld

Since you don not have the HelloWorld command, i thinks you have to add
where ever the java VM is called.

Try it, perhaps it works.

Bug#548983: AW: Bug#548983: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#548983: Newer ia32-libs has them

2010-11-08 Thread Riesebieter Elimar
Hi Simon,

if you read careful it will bw clear:

= means equal or greater than.
= means only equal to which is a versioned dependency.
In Squeeze we won't have ia32-libs (=20080808) but any
younger version. So ia32-libs (= 20080808) works for
sure... Update to sid or squeeze and you are done ;-)

Bug#531978: libgphoto2: Any update on that RC bug ?

2010-11-08 Thread Cyril Brulebois
tag 531978 help
thanks

Didier 'OdyX' Raboud did...@raboud.com (22/09/2010):
 Hi KiBi,

Hi OdyX,

(I seem to have somehow managed to forget to reply, sorry about that.)

It's been more than one month since you tagged that RC bug
pending. Is your upload fixing #531978 really in the pipes towards
 unstable?

not exactly. It's been more than one year. :p

Anyway, I asked for help several times on the mailing list, but nobody
picked it up. Gürkan Sengün proposed his help and prepared some
packages, but I'm not sure what the status is. Axel Beckert was giving
him a hand IIRC.

For the record, I've got the whole X stack to keep me busy. The
libgphoto2 package is (supposed to be easily) team-maintained. So
anyone can upload a fix package, at any time. And NMUs are welcome as
well, of course. (No prior notice needed.)

Bug#577062: more info on this bug (and possible solution)

2010-11-08 Thread Gonzalo Pérez de Olaguer Córdoba
Hello,

I had exactly the same problem when upgrading lenny to squeeze,
but with the package junior-games-gl

I think that the reason /etc/blends/blends.conf doesn't exist is that
blends-common is being installed at the same time that
junior-games-gl is upgraded, and when junior-games-gl replacement is
unpacked blends-common has been unpacked, but not yet configured.

As far as I know, if junior-games-gl (or junior-toys) needs
blends-common to be fully configured BEFORE junior-games-gl gets upgraded,
then this one must PRE-DEPEND on the other, not just depend on it.

I see junior-games-gl depends on junior-config, which in turn depends
on blends-common. Probably, junior-config should pre-depend on
blends-common and this bug should be assigned to junior-config.

I hope this information will help to solve the problem.

Thanks for your great work at Debian.

Best regards,
Gonzalo.

This is of course easy to do. And I don't mind doing the backport.

Was this feature not present in beta 2, or just not useful then?

It was present, but not completed yet.

FWIW, I still think that 1.0 + bug fixes is the better choice for
Squeeze. It has been in use for a while now and arguably is better than
beta 2, with no known regressions whatsoever.

I'm also willing to do this if the release team approves it.

I'm not sure I'm going to like the answer, given the commit count you
mention below, but how large is the diff between what's currently in
squeeze and the proposed 1.0 packages?

See attached a diffstat between the release archives (which include the
Synthesis engine).

  One thing I
(belatedly) realized is that we need to think about not only the changes
introduced by a new upstream version of syncevolution (some 360 commits
between 1.0beta2 and 1.0, about 80 of these are translations) but also
  in libsynthesis (another 77 commits).

Would that be 3.4.0.6+ds4-1, which is currently in experimental? (The
changelog suggests that +ds2-1 might be a more sensible comparison
point, but that doesn't appear to have ever been in the archive, so
isn't as easy to diff against).

Not sure about the Debian versions. But the Synthesis engine hasn't
changed that much recently, so the one from experimental should be fine
for SyncEvolution 1.0.1.

Bug#602798: kmail: change in spambayes executable name

2010-11-08 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.4.6-1
Severity: normal
Tags: sid patch

Hello,

I my latest upload of spambayes (1.0.4-6), I've brought the package inline with
the
Policy regarding script names in /usr/bin/ which should not have an extension
such as .py. This impacts kmail, as kmail can use spambayes and expects
/usr/bin/sb_filter.py to be available.

For now, there is a workaround shipped in spambayes, which installs symbolic
links in /usr/bin to ensure backward compatibility of the various scripts which
may use the old commands, but I strongly recommend upgrading to the new
interface.

I attach a patch which should do the work

Best regards,

Bug#602799: file-roller: File-roller ignores mime type, uses extensions

2010-11-08 Thread Dmitry Koroban
Package: file-roller
Version: 2.30.2-2
Severity: normal

File-roller ignores mime type when some extension is presented.
Example: I have .tar archive. For some reasone I need to change extension to
.bin. After changing extension I can not open archive with file-roller any
more. Program says:

Could not create the archive
Archive type not supported.

I expect file-roller hadle files according to its mime types, not extensions.

Bug#602797: upgrade-reports: problems with aptitude, apt-listchanges, php-net-smtp (php-pear), casper (obsolete), junior-games-gl and xserver-xorg-video-ati

2010-11-08 Thread Gonzalo Pérez de Olaguer Córdoba
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: important

upgrading lenny to squeeze on Nov 8, 2010

Almost all packages are from lenny, except some of them that come from
debian-backports, debian-multimedia and obsoleted packages. Running
kernel is 2.6.32-bpo.5-686-bigmem

I will only mention errors that have caused apt-get to stop with errors
and prevent the upgrade process to continue.

I have removed all entries from /etc/apt/sources.list except squeeze
(main, contrib, non-free).

aptitude safe-upgrade enters the Calculating dependencies stage and
remains there indefinitely. Unable to use it.

I try to update to the last version of aptitude:

aptitude install aptitude

When trying to uninstall apt-listchanges gives the following error:

Desinstalando apt-listchanges ...
mv: no se puede efectuar `stat' sobre
«/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20listchanges»: No existe el fichero o el
directorio
dpkg: error al procesar apt-listchanges (--remove):
el subproceso post-removal script devolvió el código de salida de error
 1

Bug #602742 has been filed due to this error.

The new version of aptitude is much faster than the old one, but the
problem that makes it unusable remains. So I fall back to apt-get.

I run apt-get upgrade and I get the following error:

Desempaquetando el reemplazo de php-net-smtp ...
dpkg: error al procesar
/var/cache/apt/archives/php-net-smtp_1.4.2-1_all.deb (--unpack):
intentando sobreescribir `/usr/share/php/doc', que está también en el
 paquete php-pear

I have filled a bug report against php-pear for this reason.

After manually removing the package php-net-smtp using dpkg the resto
of the upgrade runs without errors. Then I run apt-get dist-upgrade.

Then, while configuring tasksel I get an update-initramfs error
related to package casper:

Configurando tasksel (2.84) ...
Procesando disparadores para menu ...
Procesando disparadores para python-support ...
Procesando disparadores para initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-bpo.5-686-bigmem
E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/casper failed with return 1.
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-bpo.5-686-bigmem
dpkg: el subproceso post-installation script devolvió el código de
salida de error 1

Package casper is an obsolete package comming from the debian-live
project. I have removed it manually and then restarted the upgrade.

I run apt-get dist-upgrade: 933 packages upgraded, 626 new installs,
51 to remove and 1 not updated (gnome-dbg).

evolution refuses to upgrade because it is already running.

Preparing to replace evolution 2.22.3.1-1 (using
.../evolution_2.30.3-3_i386.deb) ...
Evolution is still running, aborting...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/evolution_2.30.3-3_i386.deb (--unpack):
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
configured to not write apport reports

I kill manually evolution processes and run apt-get again. There are
a lot of unmet dependencies and apt-get refuses to continue. Running
apt-get with the -f option says:

763 upgraded, 562 newly installed, 40 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
212 not fully installed or removed.

It tries to download iceweasel, but ...

Could not connect to localhost: (127.0.0.1). - connect (111:
Connection refused)
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try
with --fix-missing?

The reason is that I'm using approx as a debian repository proxy,
but at this point approx is misconfigured in the middle of the upgrade.

After running dpkg --configure -a followed by apt -f install the
package approx gets correctly configured and apt-get can
download iceweasel, so te upgrade continues:

Package junior-games-gl should pre-depend on blends-common, but
it doesn't. This problem has been already reported as bug #57062.
I have added a note to the bug.

After resolving manually the dependencies (dpkg --configure -a

That bug is old. I've already upgraded to Squeeze and I haven't played
FreeCiv of some time. I couldn't reproduce same issue on 2.2.1. When I
played it today, game did crash couple of times with different error,
but freeciv client kept running instead of closing like it did in
 previous versions.

If others are not experiencing similar issues, it is possible that
bug is triggered by my freeciv playing patterns. Currently I don't
have time to play freeciv and I have more productive ways of spending
 my weekends.

No problem!
I'll leave this bug open for a while to see if anyone else reports the
same issues.

I would like to have the upstartised nodm out at your earliest
convenience (note: on ubuntu repos) since I would be able to base our
next release on that. We are using the traditional approach right now.

Having nodm run by init does not allow me to prioritize our custom
upstart job; instead the proposed nodm upstart job mimicks these of
kdm/gdm ie it emits a signal (starting-dm) which I can use to run our
job prior of the real execution of nodm. Apart from that, plymouth acts
properly by having a dm, so the boot visual experience is perfect, while
 it is not without.

We are not in a hurry for our next release, it's probably some months
from now, but I'm just thinking ahead and plan for it.

ok, let us know when there is a more urgent need for a release, in case
that happens before we upload nodm anyways.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#602611: _kawari8.so segfaults when built with SAORI_NATIVE=yes

For example, BTHmini(http://rking.pa.land.to/ukagaka/ghost_bthmini.htm) and
brynhild_conf(site not available?).

I found that _kawari8.so segfaults if required Saori(and its compatible) module
did not exist. So, you can reproduce this bug with removing dll/bln.py from
ninix-aya and starting
BleedTheFreak(http://rottenheaven.jp/ghost/toxic100322.nar).

I also found that
SAORI_FALLBACK_ALWAYS=0 ninix segfaults.(default)
SAORI_FALLBACK_ALWAYS=1 ninix works fine.

I think the bug is in load_library() in
kawari-828/build/src/saori/saori_native.cpp.

 on blends-common. Probably, junior-config should pre-depend on
blends-common and this bug should be assigned to junior-config.

I will apply and test this solution - thanks for the hint.

Thanks for your great work at Debian.

BTW, if you are interested in the junior packages: Would you be willing

by somebody who has an overview about junior specific packages in Debian.

 Hi,

Thinking over this again, I'm curious as to why you think RT shouldn't
depend on cron (or most likely the virtual package cron-daemon).

you (the maintaienrs) didn't depend on it in the first place and added a
debconf question to ask whetever cron jobs should be installed or not.

Yes, I think that was an oversight and I'm glad that you've brought it
to our attention :)

i can't tell if that is a useful thing to have.

however, assuming that this was done on purpose and therefore the
cronjobs are sort of optional, request-tracker should not depend on cron
in order to not inflate depends. a recommends looks like the right thing
then. what i wanted to express was that i did not think of solving the
bug by adding a depends to cron, as it's too intrusive, but rather just
 make the installation not fail.

Yes, that makes sense, thanks. It's probably somewhat debatable whether
the cron jobs should be optional at all; I think any working installation
of RT should have them enabled. However when setting up test environments
it's often desirable not to have the cron job enabled.

  Part
of the functionality of RT won't work unless cron is installed. Wouldn't
it be less confusing for users to pull in cron? Since it's a
user-selectable feature, perhaps a Recommends would be strong enough.

sounds like the most flexible and most usefull one. as you certainly
know, adding the recommends will not fix the bug, the mkdir is still
required (as, even if it's not the default behaviour, it's a valid
setting of disabling automatic installation of recommended packages in
apt/aptitude, and any package must not fail installing when doing so).

Indeed so. I think adding a Recommends: cron-daemon is probably the
best thing to do at this stage and I'll do that as part of fixing this
bug.

Thanks for your input.

Dominic.

REminiscence is a rewrite of the engine used in the game Flashback
from Delphine Software. This program is designed as a cross-platform
replacement for the original executable and uses the SDL library.

   sources url: http://cyxdown.free.fr/reminiscence/

... It needs the data files from the original Flashback game.

I have done some work on the package in the pkg-games Subversion
  repository:
  http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/reminiscence/

I don't mind taking it further, finishing the package and
  uploading.

I wonder if Debian needs an unmaintained (last version 3y) engine
 that requires non-free data?

It is still useful and works. It is better than running the original
game under dosbox, because of the power savings (ah, and the
save/restore feature available at any point). I was quite surprised to
find it in maemo and not in Debian :)

It is also listed on the http://wiki.debian.org/Games/Suggested page.

As for the non-free data, this won't be the first package in such
situation. The contrib section is just for it.

Do you see a reason to avoid including reminiscence to Debian?

Any objections if I move the packaging to Git (still under
  pkg-games umbrella)?

This still stands.

Bug#602470: xserver-xorg-video-intel: black screen of mouse cursor

For a while now, possibly a few moths, I've had the screen ocasionally
turn black except for the mouse cursor. It only seemed to happen when
xscreensaver was running, but sometimes hapened as soon as
xscreensaver activated and other times only after it was running for a
while. I could get back to a useable state by either restarting X or
by running xrandr -s 1 to change the resolution (then xrandr -s 0 to
get back to a reasonable resolution). I think I finally found a way to
reproduce the problem, although it's probably not the only way.

Bug#580504: workaround for wrong keyboard layout problem with synergy

2010-11-08 Thread Eric Cornely

Package: synergy
Version: 1.3.1-5
Severity: normal

I'm using synergy client on debian squeeze with XFCE and have the
problem with my ubuntu XFCE synergy server with same synergy version.

The server seems to be fine because under windows i haven't any problem.

So what does exactly happen when you use your workaround ?

go to System - Preferences - Keyboard - Layout

I can't find it in XFCE of course and was wondering if i should
configure something like export an environement variable, or ... before
running synergy client to be sure it will do keyboard translation.

I suppose keyboard event are sent as key number or somthing like that
and the client has to translate them back to the right keymap but where
does the synergy client get the key map configuration ?

Maybe you workarround is just setting that kind of preference so that
synergy can do its work correctly.

Bug#602804: wrong host

2010-11-08 Thread Harald Dunkel
Package: zabbix-frontend-php
Version: 1:1.8.2-1squeeze1

I just set up zabbix, so maybe I missed something, but
this seems weird to me:

- login as Administrator
- go to Configuration -- Hosts
- click on the Applications link of the 3rd host in the
  list
- check the host name in the top right corner
- click on the Template Linux: Services link
- suddenly another host is selected (the 2nd host
  in my case)

The unwanted change in the host name is _extremly_ hard
to notice.

Bug#554506: (ugly) patch which should fix dm-crypt-on-lvm setups

2010-11-08 Thread Jonas Meurer
Hey Alasdair,

thanks for your comments.

On 04/11/2010 Alasdair G Kergon wrote:
If the complex processing doesn't work for everyone then yes, simplify
 it and activate everything always.

To do it the other way you need logic something like:
Every time you boot, check if the stack of devices necessary to be
activated has changed, and if so, update the information for use next
 time it boots.
At boot time, try the last stack known to work first. If it doesn't
work, try any other different saved stacks from earlier boots. If none
of them work then fall back to activating everything.

In other words make the initramfs code robust enough to cope with
 the unexpected!

I now changed the initramfs code to always activate all volume groups:
both before cryptsetup in case the source device is not available, and
after cryptsetup in case the unlocked device contains lvm data.

this way, the complicated and error-prone volume group -guessing code is
not needed anymore.

greetings,
 jonas

At the time I downgraded to the 5.10.0-19 version that wasn't affected

I'm not able to upgrade to the current testing, as that requires a new
libc that requires a newer kernel and I haven't been able to get a newer
kernel working on my alpha system :(

It may have been fixed in 5.10.1, but I don't think I can try that...
I don't mind if you mark this bug unreproducible and close it after
squeeze has been released.

Bug#602806: ITP: drupal6-mod-commentrss -- commentrss modules for Drupal 6

2010-11-08 Thread Al Nikolov
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Al Nikolov cl...@debian.org

* Package name: drupal6-mod-commentrss
  Version : 2.2
Upstream Author : Gábor Hojtsy (http://drupal.org/user/4166)
* URL : http://drupal.org/project/commentrss
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: PHP
Description : commentrss modules for Drupal 6

This module provides RSS feeds for comments. This is useful for
allowing readers to subscribe to comments for a blog post, article, or
forum topic. It currently provides three types of feeds which pair up
to the RSS features provided by Drupal built-in. Each type of comment
feed may be disabled if unneeded.
 .
  * complete site feed at /crss
  * per node feeds at eg. /crss/node/12
  * per term feeds at eg. /crss/term/14
 .
Comment feeds provide an alternative to email subscriptions, allowing
users to monitor discussions without having to provide their email
address. Due to the limited capabilities of RSS, threading is not
preserved and the comments are listed in reversed time order.

Is there any reason esx support is explicitly disabled in libvirt? It
just needs libcurl-{gnutls,openssl}-dev. It would be really useful to
enable it.

Great, thanks for the huge work.

I was wondering if there will be WPA support in D-I for squeeze, as this

No. Nobody did the needed tests on the patch proposed in
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=22;bug=327309

This patch lacks wpa.c (so the Makefile fails with something like no
rules for building wpa.o), so it's impossible to test it. I've tried to
search it in a apt-get source netcfg and it wasn't there. It's not on
the svn either.

Darren, do you have that file? Anyone?

Isn't it just because po-debconf hasn't been told about many of the

I'm seeing this often (about once a week) with /etc/cron.daily/apt on
different systems. I do use unattended-upgrades and in the cases that
run-parts hangs it seems that some updates were installed. Perhaps the
hanging is a side-effect of the file descriptor mangling that debconf
does?

Giving it some more though, I think I figured out what causes this. If
unattended-upgrades restarts a service (on this system MySQL was
restarted) one of the pipe file descriptors is leaked to the daemon.
This is the relevant part of the MySQL process tree that was restarted:

root 2227 0.0 0.0 1792 536 ?SN 08:00 0:00 /bin/sh

root 2339 0.0 0.0 3708 584 ?SN 08:00 0:00 \_ logger -t
mysqld -p daemon.error

As can be seen with lsof the pipes that were created by run-parts are
open in the mysqld_safe script (file descriptors 44 and 45):

Perhaps run-parts should be modified to close the pipes when the child
exits (instead of when all write ends of the pipes are closed).

I think this will require installing a signal handler that sets a flag
that is tested in the select() loop. If you like I can prepare a patch
for this.

What do you think?

ps. I think this is also a bug in the mysqld_safe script or the init
script (daemons should close all their file descriptors) but I think
run-parts should also behave sanely.

Bug#602810: ia32-libs fails in postinst due to wrong version conditioning prior to dpkg-divert

2010-11-08 Thread Daniel Reichelt
Package: ia32-libs
Version: 20090808
Severity: serious

Justification: Appendix G

Hi,

on my system I have installed a 3rd party package which adds a diversion like
this:

$ dpkg-divert --list /usr/bin/ldd
diversion of /usr/bin/ldd to /usr/bin/ldd.real by myutils-lddwrapper

When installing ia32-libs it fails like this:

I tracked down the problem to postinst:26. The operator '' treats the in my
case
empty argument $2 as earlier than 1.5.2, hence the cleanup code gets executed
by
mistake. I suggest the said operator to be changed to 'lt-nl' which in turn
treats
the empty $2 as later than 1.5.2 and everything's fine.

HTH, cheers,

Daniel

Using the packages you prepared, the udev rules look fine (at least not

At the time I downgraded to the 5.10.0-19 version that wasn't affected
by this problem. 5.10.0-25 _is_ affected.

It's not unreproducible. Now that I tried, I see the same messages with
the perl 5.10.1-16 test suite on albeniz.d.o when building with gcc-4.3
(4.3.5-4) but not with gcc-4.4 (4.4.5-6).

The default gcc version changed to gcc-4.3 right after the Lenny release,
and the first perl version built with it was 5.10.0-21. The switch to
gcc-4.4 happened in December 2009, and the first perl version built with
that was 5.10.1-9.

Therefore I expect your problem is fixed with 5.10.1-9. It's not clear at
all if this is a Perl bug or a GCC one. I'm not particularly interested
in digging deeper unless it manifests itself again with newer gcc versions.

Are you OK with closing this bug at 5.10.1-9?

Bug#602813: /etc/init.d/mysql: init script leaks file descriptors

2010-11-08 Thread Arthur de Jong
Subject: /etc/init.d/mysql: init script leaks file descriptors
Package: mysql-server-5.1
Version: 5.1.49-2
File: /etc/init.d/mysql
Severity: normal

The /etc/init.d/mysql script leaks file descriptors to
the /usr/bin/mysqld_safe script. This causes problems problems for
unattended-upgrades (see #379645) and is generally considered a bad idea
(can also cause other problems).

It is probably simplest to use start-stop-daemon in the init script.
This closes all file descriptors and redirects to /dev/null (as well as
all kind of other things a daemon should do to correctly background
itself).

Using start-stop-daemon can be done by by replacing:
  /usr/bin/mysqld_safe /dev/null 21
with:
start-stop-daemon --start --background --quiet --exec /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
in the script.

Thanks.

Bug#529451: wget cannot resume when using it over privoxy

2010-11-08 Thread Eduardo Trápani
I think this is related to privoxy. If filter content is enabled privoxy will
ignore the Range header, thus disabling partial content.

In your config file you can set:

toggle 0

According to the documentation, this means:

# If set to 0, Privoxy will start in toggled off mode,
# i.e. mostly behave like a normal, content-neutral proxy
# with both ad blocking and content filtering disabled.

Bug#602783: udev: ide disks not found anymore although kernel detected

2010-11-08 Thread Emmanuel
Hello,

I've been building my own kernels since 0.9x versions... and I like stability.

Actually I haven't moved my boots that are still managed by lilo and
didn't get time to upgrade to other bootloaders, so debian kernels are
not possible at the time.

I expect I am not the only one having reached this problem recently,
or other will if they go from stable to testing as I did recently on
some package, so it would be interresting if you understand what is
going on rather than rejecting everything so quickly.

NO, it would fail at this point. It works now (vide supra).

Is it possible that you compiled an lzma-compressed bzimage? Usually the
compression ratio is estimated at 2. In case of big initrd it may land
in a region which is clobbered by bzimage being decompressed. This was a
widespread issue on EFI since there GRUB tried to put initrd at lowest
possible address, but by now it should be changed to try to load initrd
as high as possible

Bug#602815: Missing kill -HUP in logrotate.d/freeradius

2010-11-08 Thread Gedalya

Package: freeradius
Version: 2.1.9+dfsg-1+b1

After logrotate rotates /var/log/freeradius/radius.log, radius.log stays
at 0 size, further logging does not work. This seems to be due to a
change in freeradius. Fixed by modifying /etc/logrotate.d/freeradius as
follows:

/var/log/freeradius/*.log {

rotate 52
compress

postrotate
kill -HUP `cat /var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid`
endscript
}

nice, but irrelevant 0.9 pointer.
2.6.32 is the stable branch.
2.6.30 is long fucked, please wake up.

the ide stack is dead, switch to libata
or better use images where people take care.

lilo has a large mem option where it *can* boot linux-2.6 images,
so wrong answer.

how about you doing some research, aka proper reporting instead of
useless escalation from the start on.

one specific udev not working != cricitical RC bug
and even less on unsupported third party compilations.

Bug#426990: 'test' builtin of bash returns wrong value for '! -a FILE' operation

2010-11-08 Thread Greg Wooledge
On Fri, Nov 05, 2010 at 04:24:23PM -0500, Jonathan Nieder wrote:
  Please try
% bash -c 'test ! -a . echo true'
and compare with the result of

imadev:~$ bash -c 'test ! -a . echo true'
true
imadev:~$ bash -c '/usr/bin/test ! -a . echo true'
imadev:~$

This is an extremely convoluted example. You're echoing true if the
object does NOT exist...? Actually, you're echoing true if the command
fails to fail. In the /usr/bin/test -a case, the command has the right to
fail because there's no such unary operator (see below), regardless of
whether . exists in the file system.

(On my system, there is no -a unary operator in the test(1) man page, but
the command apparently supports one, undocumented. Isn't this fun?)

  So which one is right?

Both should echo true, but the former did not: I found that the former
sometimes returns the correct result, but have not found what makes the
  difference.

POSIX does not specify -a as a unary operator. See
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/utilities/test.html
for details. It specifies -a as a binary operator, but marks it as
obsolescent and suggests using two test commands instead. This is the
same advice I give whenever the subject comes up on IRC, and also what
I mention on my pitfalls page: http://mywiki.wooledge.org/BashPitfalls#pf6

 Suggested changes:
[...]

I'll let Chet address those. Speaking strictly as someone who supports
script writers (not shell maintainers), I'd suggest either using bash's [[
command instead of test, or avoiding the use of -a and -o in the test
command. (Note that [[ uses rather than -a, and || rather than -o.
So whichever advice path you choose, -a and -o as binary operators are
just plain bad.)

If you're trying to determine whether some file-object exists, use -e.

imadev:~$ bash -c 'test ! -e . echo true'
imadev:~$ bash -c '/usr/bin/test ! -e . echo true'
imadev:~$

If you're trying to run multiple tests, use multiple test commands,
and string them together with and/or || as required.

imadev:~$ bash -c 'if test -e . test -e ..; then echo true; fi'
true
imadev:~$ bash -c 'if /usr/bin/test -e . /usr/bin/test -e ..; then echo
true; fi'
true

Or use [[:

imadev:~$ bash -c 'if [[ -e . -e .. ]]; then echo true; fi'
true

 Hi,

on my system I have installed a 3rd party package which adds a diversion like
 this:

 $ dpkg-divert --list /usr/bin/ldd
 diversion of /usr/bin/ldd to /usr/bin/ldd.real by myutils-lddwrapper

If it only happens with 3rd party packages I don't think this counts as
serious.

Bug#567050: iptables: Manpage needs updates.

2010-11-08 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: iptables
Version: 1.4.8-3
Severity: normal

I was wondering which is better or correct Here are the result of
my search.

Although the manpage uses -t mangle for TCPMSS, Netfilter Extensions
HOWTO states:

http://netfilter.org/documentation/HOWTO/netfilter-extensions-HOWTO-4.html#ss4.7

| Typical usage would be:
| # iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,RST SYN -j TCPMSS
--clamp-mss-to-pmtu

The same example is given in the linux kernel source
net/netfilter/Kconfig, too.

iptables v1.4.8 Changelog state:
| Changes from 1.4.7:
| ...
| Jan Engelhardt (9):
| ...
| doc: remove claim that TCPMSS is limited to mangle
| ...
| Tim Small (1):
| doc: update TCPMSS manpage with Linux 2.6.25 changes

It seems quite complicated situation.

I found:
http://lists.netfilter.org/pipermail/netfilter-devel/2005-December/022632.html

| and realize that most uses of TCPMSS (which I fear are not that
| rare) probably occur within the filter table.
| You can expect a global change to be quite difficult, I guess... :-(
|
| Thanks, I didn't know this, I'm going to change this to refer to
| the mangle table. This still leaves the option of a warning, but
| want I really wanted to know was whether anyone cares. From a
| consistency point of view it should be restricted, for the
| functionality it doesn't matter.

So -t mangle as seen in manpage seems to be more preferred way for
consistency of code but -t filter is still supported. So this bug may
be reassigned to kernel source upstream and Netfilter Extensions
HOWTO.

Bug#602823: fontmatrix: No documentation available

2010-11-08 Thread Friedrich Delgado
Package: fontmatrix
Version: 0.6.0+svn20100107-2+b2
Severity: important

The manpage of fontmatrix claims:

The definitive options are in the program's usage statement. Run:
fontmatrix --help to view the usage statement.

However running fontmatrix --help will start the main gui.

In the gui, the Help option provides a page stating

Sorry, no manual is installed!

Please contact your package provider or Fontmatrix team if you built
the application yourself

There's no documentation in /usr/share/doc/fontmatrix or elsewhere in
the package, and the manual and FAQ on the website are mostly empty.

(Specifically, I'd love to get some information on how those filters
work, and what/how exactly they match, because I'm trying to list all
monospace/charcell spacing fonts on my system. This kind of thing is
easy to do with xfontsel, but that doesn't know anything about
truetype fonts.

As an aside, is there an alternative to fontmatrix or font-manager?
None of these seem to be able to filter monospace/charcell fonts.
There used to be an application called gfontsel or gtkfontsel a few
years ago, but I can't find it any more.

fc-list :spacing=mono;fc-list :spacing=charcell

works of course, but doesn't give me a graphical display.)

2010-11-08 Thread Hector Oron
Dear maintainers,

Is there any update on this patch? armhf port is currently up to 80% of the
archive already built [1].
 Thanks all

Bug#602568: squeeze-di-beta1 installer: partman hang

2010-11-08 Thread Jean-Christian de Rivaz
It seem that the only maintained source archive for GNU parted is
git://git.debian.org/git/parted/parted.git . Right ?

I managed to find that the bug was introduced by this commit:

commit c79d91ec71882a1673daae0482aa90c514c63cc1
Author: Jim Meyering meyer...@redhat.com
Date: Tue Mar 30 16:50:59 2010 +0200

device_length to ped_geometry_init when the underlying device
has fewer sectors than a cylinder.

I posted a message on the bug-par...@gnu.org, but it seem that there is
not a lot of developers on it, so I don't expect this will be handled
anytime soon.

The only basic idea I have right now, is to add a -t option to force
to not call ped_geometry_init (start_geom, ...) if cylinder_size
dev-length when using parted with a memory-mapped device for testing
purpose. There is maybe a better logic to handle all of that, but I
don't know this code good enough to see it. Where can I find a test case
with a memory-mapped device that needed this commit ?

Bug#566650: Bug #566650: Please unblock dtc 0.32.2-1

2010-11-08 Thread Thomas Goirand
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I have mixed feelings here. At the same time, I want to say sorry for
insisting so much, and I feel I'm a jerk to do so. But at the same time
I don't feel happy about the final outcome, just because of a timing
issue, and I know the package is in good shape. :/

Yes, there is backports.d.o. No, it's not the same as being in stable (I
would have use b.d.o anyway, this is removing the possibility to have 2
branches in stable at the same time, so people can choose).

As it stands, it's unreasonable to even try working on the 0.30.x branch
for Squeeze, given the short amount of time remaining. I feel very sad
about it, but as there's no way to convince the RT that the 0.32.x
branch is in a very good shape for Squeeze (my users can tell it is...),
I have to ask for the removal of src:dtc from testing. Please proceed if
there's no way to change your mind about unblocking.

Thomas Goirand (zigo)

P.S: If there is room for reconsidering the decision (which I do not
believe given the current thread), yes, 0.32.5-1 in SID is stable and
ready, and I still believe unblocking it is the way to go.

Bug#602812: [php-maint] Bug#602812: php5: a posted array limited to 999 elements

thank you

1) please read an info on bug severities:
http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities

2) have you tried setting bigger post_max_size? Your test script works
just fine on my system. I guess it will be more a configuration issue
on your side than some arbitrary hidden limit in a php5.

Bug#602824: lilo: create a common source package

2010-11-08 Thread Bhavani Shankar R
Package: lilo
Version: 1:22.8-8.3
Severity: wishlist

Hello dear maintainers,

As said in the above subject, the idea comes from the following
discussion in the below bug

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lilo/+bug/669363

which essentially states that applying patches can be easier with a
common source package and sebastien's idea also came from the below
article

http://raphaelhertzog.com/2010/11/05/managing-distribution-specific-patches-with-a-common-source-package/

which requires only a source format change to 3.0(quilt)

Hi,

This bug seems to come from Konsole, so as Salvo asked, I reopen and
reassign it.

Salvo, I think you should provide some more details (maybe the astyle's
upstream investigation) in order to allow the maintainers of Konsole
undersand your problem.

Regards,
