Bug#688488: DDPO: Please add section Given DM permissions

2012-09-23 Thread Bart Martens
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if a DD could see on his/her own DDPO page the list of
packages he/she has given DM permissions for. I suggest to list these packages
in a separate section named Given DM permissions. I suggest to only list the
packages that are not yet already listed elsewhere on the same DDPO page.

SATA devices are not listed in /dev/disk/by-path at all. examining the

thus they disabled by-path link generation for all ATA devices(!)

as i noted earlier, it seems we can construct unambiguous, meaningful ATA links.
do you agree? if so, what would your feelings be on such a patch?

i've been running this down by myself, but in order to proceed

But they where not due to trailing slashes. I've fixed this locally,

It would be nice if debsign would allow to sign .dak-commands files.
They have an optional Uploader field in the first section which could be
used to guess the keyid used for signing (similar to .commands files).

See [1] for more details.

Bug#688011: fcitx-m17n : no pinyin preedit

2012-09-23 Thread Jos van Wolput
I have read your comment about the preedit concept but it doesn't seem
to work,
at least on my system using xfce4.

Choosing input method zh-pinyin (m17n) and for example typing ai1, no
underlined text
appears.
I tried zh-pinyin input in mousepad, gedit and kate editors, no preedit is
shown and
ctrl+alt+p doesn't open an input window.
Trying input in xterm too doesn't open an input window.

These are the packages I have installed: fcitx v.4.2.5 from
Debian/experimental:
fcitx-libs, fcitx-bin, fcitx-data, fcitx-config-common, fcitx-config-gtk,
fcitx-frontend-gtk2, fcitx-frontend-gtk3, fcitx-modules (core modules),
fcitx-module-dbus,fcitx-module-lua, fcitx-module-x11, fcitx-table,
fcitx-tools, fcitx-ui-classic, fcitx-pinyin, fcitx-sunpinyin,
fcitx-googlepinyin, fcitx-m17n.

Could some package be missing?

Using fcitx-pinyin, fcitx-sunpinyin or fcitx-googlepinyin woks, opening an
input window
but ctrl+alt+p doesn't show preedited text.

Bart Martens ba...@debian.org writes:

That should be fairly easy to change. Would this format be okay:

Fingerprint: a-fingerprint
Uid: A Maintainer ama...@example.net
Allow:
 a-package (fpr-of-dd-who-granted-upload-permission),
 another-package (fpr-of-another-dd-who-granted-upload-permission)

I guess it would be okay to change the format of dm.txt instead of
introducing a new file for this as it was only introduced very recently
and nobody should be using it yet.

Bug#688497: maradns: modifies conffiles (policy 10.7.3): /etc/maradns/mararc

2012-09-23 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: maradns
Version: 1.4.12-3
Severity: serious
Tags: squeeze-ignore
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts
Control: found -1 1.4.03-1.1

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package modifies conffiles.
This is forbidden by the policy, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-config-files

10.7.3: [...] The easy way to achieve this behavior is to make the
configuration file a conffile. [...] This implies that the default
version will be part of the package distribution, and must not be
modified by the maintainer scripts during installation (or at any
other time).

Note that once a package ships a modified version of that conffile,
dpkg will prompt the user for an action how to handle the upgrade of
this modified conffile (that was not modified by the user).

Further in 10.7.3: [...] must not ask unnecessary questions
(particularly during upgrades) [...]

If a configuration file is customized by a maintainer script after

version will be part of the package distribution, and must not be
modified by the maintainer scripts during installation (or at any

Note that once a package ships a modified version of that conffile,
dpkg will prompt the user for an action how to handle the upgrade of
this modified conffile (that was not modified by the user).

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package modifies shipped

The modified file is a configuration file that is placed in /var

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-config-files

10.7.2: Location: Any configuration files created or used by your
package must reside in /etc. [...]

This file will be overwritten on upgrades/reinstallation, destroying
local modifications. Violates 10.7.3.

some useful information, too]

Bug#688325: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#688325: [schroot] I can't mount usb key with schroot

2012-09-23 Thread Guy Roussin
I can not mount a USB key under /media because
 they belong to root.

How can i achieve this ?

The same way as you would on the host system, especially since the
files under /dev/ are bind mounted from the host. This is not, I
think, something that schroot itself should cater for. Tools like
pmount and more recent tools used by common desktop environments
 for mounting removable media should work inside the chroot as well;
particuarly when using the desktop profile. If there's anything
we can add to that profile to make desktop removable media
support work better, then we can certainly look at adding that.

 Regards,
 Roger

Thank you Roger,
But this is what i get with pmount (i use the desktop profile) :

guy@pcplat53:~$ pmount /dev/sdb1
guy@pcplat53:~$ pumount /dev/sdb1
guy@pcplat53:~$ schroot -c precise
(precise)guy@pcplat53:~$ pmount /dev/sdb1
Error: could not open fstab-type file: No such file or directory
(precise)guy@pcplat53:~$

This is ok with the host but not with the schroot

Bug#688503: Missing keymap in initramfs file when `console-setup' is not installed

2012-09-23 Thread Dirk Ullrich
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.108

If one have package `console-setup' not installed, `update-initramfs' does not
include the keymap into the initramfs file generated.

A look into `/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/keymap' shows that the keymap is
copied by using `/bin/setupcon' from the `console-setup'. But neither is
`console-setup' an essential package. nor does `initramfs-tools' depend on
it. Moreover the keymap hook `exit's with 0 if `/bin/loadkeys' or
`/bin/setupcon' (as in my case) is missing. Is this really the intended
behaviour?

I suggest to add `console-setup' as a dependency for `initramfs-tool' and add
an error or at least a warning if the keymap has to be loaded (by `KEYMAP=y'
`initramfs-tools' configuration) but one of the above tools is missing.
Moreover I suggest to use `KEYMAP=y' as default in
`/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf' since imho many Debian users have a
non-QWERTY keyboard layout.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux sid, kernel 3.2.0-3 and libc6 2.13-35.

Cheers,
Dirk

Bug#682233: mpt2sas: kernel crash under load with hanged disks

Hi,

 Author: James Bottomley jbottom...@parallels.com

[SCSI] Fix 'Device not ready' issue on mpt2sas

Sounds plausible. That patch was applied upstream as v3.2.30~126, so
please test 3.2.30-1 once it is available.

If impatient before then:

 0. prerequisites:

apt-get install git build-essential

 1. get the kernel history, if you do not already have it:

git clone \
  git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git

 2. fetch point releases:

cd linux
git remote add stable \
  git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git
git fetch stable

 3. configure, build, attempt to reproduce the bug:

git checkout v3.2.29
cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config; # current configuration
scripts/config --disable DEBUG_INFO
make localmodconfig; # optional: minimize configuration
make deb-pkg; # optionally with -jnum for parallel build
dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root
reboot
... test test test ...

Hopefully it reproduces the bug. So

 4. update:

cd linux
git merge stable/linux-3.2.y
make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4
dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root
reboot
... test test test ...

Thanks again for your help and patience.

Bug#688505: MariaDB packaging.

2012-09-23 Thread Robert de Bath

Package: mysql-server
Version: 5.5.24+dfsg-8
Severity: wishlist

My very technically savvy webhost has recently switched from MySQL to
MariaDB and claim it's for both technical and political reasons.

Both of these reasons (better performance and better licensing) appear
to be good reasons for the software to be packaged as a Debian package
and I expect it's getting to the point that someone will do it themselves.

BUT the software is technically still not a forked variant of MySQL
but a patched version where the maintainers continually resync to the
Oracle releases. For this reason I would like to see it treated as just
a simple MySQL version within Debian. This way the users (ie: me) can
simply switch by prodding apt in the right way.

For this to work seamlessly (unlike, for example, the recent multimedia
troubles) the MariaDB package should be packaged identically to MySQL,
which IMO is best done by the same Debian maintainers.

So my request is that you package the MariaDB as a secondary version of
MySQL in such a way that the two packages can be seamlessly switched
within the Debian system.

Bug#459219: ITP: android

2012-09-23 Thread Matt Taggart
Thanks for working on getting the android development stuff packaged!

I think I agree with what Laszlo said about having separate package for
some things (although mainly at the binary package level, I guess I don't
care at the source package level).

I don't need to develop android applications, I mainly just need adb and
fastboot in order to talk to and boot my devices. I found these (slightly
older, but maybe still relevant) howtos

http://lackingrhoticity.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-build-adb-android-debugg
er.html
http://mancoosi.org/~abate/build-android-adb-debian-sid-amd64

It would be nice to be able to install adb without having to install the
whole SDK and java (and avoid downloading binaries and weird licenses, etc).

What do you think?

Thanks,

Bug#675763: gnome-settings-daemon: gnome-setting-daemon segfaults in libmouse.so

2012-09-23 Thread Guy Roussin
Hi,

I can reproduce the same bug on my EeePC 1005HA. Maybe it is a
specific bug relative to these netbooks models.

No i use a Dell Latitude D420 and the bug is present.
With this notebook i can't upgrade to amd64 ...

So, i need to remove ~/.config/dconf/user to work around the bug.
So i make a copy of this file (~/.config/dconf/user.ok) before
the error occur. This way i don't loose all the configuration
for the user.
I think we can't edit this file without X (dconf-editor) ?
Is the bug reported to upstream ?

Thank you,

Guy

It has. The error you receive:

Processing triggers for man-db ...
Setting up alpine (2.02+dfsg-1.1) ...
Setting up alpine-doc (2.02+dfsg-1.1) ...
Error: Timeout was reached

is not from apt but output as a result of one of the Post-Invoke triggers.

How often do you receive such an error and is your system under
increased load when it happens?

Every time now, its just happened again with updating this morning.

Searching your apt conf. for the term “timeout” matches this entry:

DPkg::Post-Invoke:: /usr/bin/test -e /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.PackageKit.service
 /usr/bin/test -S /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket /usr/bin/gdbus call --system --dest
org.freedesktop.PackageKit --object-path /org/freedesktop/PackageKit --timeout 1 --method
org.freedesktop.PackageKit.StateHasChanged cache-update  /dev/null; /bin/echo  /dev/null;

which is calling /usr/bin/gdbus. Grepping the source of that package
(libglib2.0-bin) indicates that it does contain a “Timeout was
reached” error.

This entry is added by packagekit, so reassigning.

Fair enough, thanks.

Sharon.

Bug#687408: mdp: FTBFS: test failed

2012-09-23 Thread Tiziano Zito
Hi,

those tests sometimes fail because there is some randomness involved.
They test the convergence of some algorithms, and sometimes the get
stuck in local optima.
The fix is to test the package during build with a fixed random seed, so that
we only get real failing tests: if the fixed random seed no test is failing
on the maintainer machine, no test should fail on the buildbots.

I already implemented the fix, and will try to find a sponsor to upload the
fixed package in the next days...

Thank you,
Tiziano

 Hi,

I was able to reproduce the bug on Wheezy yesterday night, but not

time, so not closing this bug without confirmation or enlightenment.

Attached build log and diff against the failed one. Please note that I
tried to rebuild it several time, and it failed twice so far, with
another failed test (FastICA, end of log attached) for the second
failure (didn't keep the log of the first one). Don't know how to
reproduce the issue “for sure”, but maybe the unreproducible tag should
 be removed.

It is quite confusing when multiarch is enabled, to have apt-listbugs

In my case, I just added i386 as foreign arch to be able to install
wine on an amd64 box. Then apt-listbugs complains about RC bugs
impacting the i386 packages, but I have no way to tell:

* whether we're talking about an i386 or amd64 package

* whether impacted package already has a version for an other arch
  already installed

Bug#688507: ftp.debian.org: Please make DM permission changes public

2012-09-23 Thread Arno Töll
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

while the new DM permission handling is a great improvement, I am missing a
public
information source about changes in maintainer handling. I do not mean the
complete DM permission lists (i.e. http://ftp-master.debian.org/dm.txt) but
permission changes becoming effective including the advocate who did.

The easiest and perfectly acceptable solution would be to send processed
*.commands
file including its GPG signature to debian-devel-changes, just like the way dak
does for
*.changes files. That would also provide comments the advocate possibly included
in his advocation command. Alternatively, I guess I could also live with the
person's fingerprint next to an individual package wo emitted that change
(although that may miss Deny changes which I find important, too).

This does not look like an ISO 9660 Primary Volume Descriptor but
rather like a snippet from a Joliet directory tree. Read as 16 bit
characters one can recognize IMG_2428.JPG and IMG_2429.JPG.
They are announced to start at blocks 72752 (decimal) and 74132
(decimal). Sizes are 2825286 and 2866752 bytes.
... if i decoded these little endian 32-bit numbers correctly:
0 034 001 \0 IMG_2428.JPG, Location of Extent
F 034 + \0 IMG_2428.JPG, Data Length
  224 ! 001 \0 IMG_2429.JPG, Location of Extent
@ 276 + \0 IMG_2429.JPG, Data Length
(The layout of directory records is documented in ECMA-119, 9.1.
Joliet deviates from this layout mainly by using 16-bit characters
  for File Identifier.)

Nice find!

I really wonder how this could get to block 16 of the medium.
Brasero did order libisofs to produce a Joliet tree. But it should
be stored several blocks after block 16. Before Joliet there
should be volume descriptors and the ISO 9660 + Rock Ridge tree.

It is clear that no reader software wants to accept this as ISO 9660
 filesystem.

Guessing from this single block content, i would expect that a
few hundred kilobytes of the image start have not been written
onto the medium. Most simple explanation for this would be that they
were not transmitted from libisofs to libburn. But i riddle how
 this could be possible.

Is there some way to simulate a burner to find out what happened?

[…]

  $ dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr1

The output looks totally normal. Medium is ok.

I think I forgot to add that the burner and the same DVD medium were
used successfully with for example K3b and I also think xorriso.

We have no special indication of any malfunction of burner or medium.
There are just not the right bytes stored at the right block addresses.

A further test with xorriso would be welcome. Just to be sure.

Everything worked fine with `xorriso`.

Bug#688511: better support for multiple routing tables

2012-09-23 Thread Marc Haber
Package: aiccu
Version: 20070115-15.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

On my home router, I have an OpenVPN tunnel to one of my servers with
native IPv6, and would also like to have a SixXS tunnel as backup to
be able to reach home even when my own IPv6 setup is crippled.

To do so, I would like to use a setup like this, which I use
successfully on routers which have multiple IPv6 uplinks:

- have no IPv6 default route in the main routing table
- have one additional routing table per uplink (in my case, a sixxs
and a openvpn table), which only hold a single default route,
  pointing to the respective gateway
- ip -6 rule add sixxs-prefix table sixxs pref 32769
- ip -6 rule add openvpn-prefix table openvpn pref 32770

Currently, I can choose whether I want to have a default route set by
aiccu into my main routing table, where it would break the openvpn
tunnel, or no default route at all, setting it manually via a
setupscript.

Please consider (as alternatives)

(1)
adapting the syntax so that defaultroute tablename becomes a valid
configuration option, causing the default route to be written in the
named table. That way, true and false cannot be used as table
name, but I guess that would be OK.

(2)
making the IP address of the gateway available in setuptscript's
environment so that there is no need to hard-code the IP address there

(3)
running the setupscript parameter through a shell to make constructs
like setupscript ifup sixxs or setupscript foo parameter possible

(4)
Add a unsetupscript option to have a script executed when aiccu takes
a tunnel down to undo things introduced by the setupscript option

(5)
add a routingtable option to cause aiccu to make all its changes to a
special routingable

Thanks in advance!

Greetings
Marc

That is odd. owncloud depends on php5, and php5 depends on various types
of setting up PHP5 support. libapache2-mod-php4 cannot be added as a
depend as for example apache2-mpm-worker does not work with it and
needs php5-cgi/cli instead.

Bug#688229: Burning data DVD looks successful but mounting fails with ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.

2012-09-23 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

 Could you please CC me

I will try to remember. :)
But maybe you better subscribe by a mail to
  688229-subscr...@bugs.debian.org

Is there some way to simulate a burner to find out what happened?

libburn would accept burner addresses like
  stdio:/tmp/my_emulated_drive
which would behave like DVD-RAM or DVD+RW. I.e. quite different
from DVD-R or DVD+R. Nevertheless such an emulated drive would
allow to exercise the communications between libisofs and libburn,
as done by Brasero.

I do not know how to make Brasero use such a drive address.
Probably one would have to hack its source.

Another way to exercise DVD-R is to use DVD-RW. They need to get
blanked before re-use. E.g. by
xorriso -outdev /dev/sr1 -blank deformat -eject all
This lasts as long as writing the full capacity of 4.7 GB.
(Fast blanking is possible but the DVD-RW would afterwards refuse
to perform the write type Incremental which is used by Brasero.)

Some numbers from your reports are against my theory of a missing
start piece:

libisofs reported:
brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Processed 2119108 of 2119108 KB (100 %)

dvd+rw-mediainfo and xorriso -toc report a track size of
1059568*2KB

The overall sizeis of image and track would match.
2 * 1059568 - 2119108 = 28
The track size is aligned to a DVD ECC block of 32 KiB.

The track was written by write type Incremental. I.e. it
is supposed to bear only the bytes which were actually written,
rounded up to the next multiple of 16 blocks (= 32 KiB).

If a start piece of the image would be missing, then the track
would have to be shorter.

Gr.

I assume you too live in Germany. If so:
Would the images on the DVD be non-private enough and would
you want to invest 1.45 Euro into a mail stamp in order to send
me that DVD-R for closer inspection ?
Or do you have 2 GB of internet storage from where i could
download a copy of the medium made by
  dd if=/dev/sr1 bs=2048 of=/tmp/copy_of_dev_sr1
?

 Everything worked fine with `xorriso`.

 $ xorriso -md5 on -outdev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test /

Well ... Yay and G at the same time.
Yay for xorriso and the drive, Grrr for my inability to explain what
went wrong with the Brsaero DVD-R.

The only thing I noticed, that another DVD drive, the Toshiba DVD-ROM
SD-M1712, needed more than 25 seconds to recognize the disc.

This might be due to the fact that the medium is still appendable,
unlike the one from Brasero. I.e. you could add more files by xorriso
or growisofs.

How is recognition time with the burner ?

In order to get a closed DVD-R, you would have to use command
  -close on
E.g. with the now appendable DVD-R medium
  $ mkdir ~/test2
  $ cp ...a...few...files... ~/test2
  $ xorriso -md5 on -dev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test2 /test2 -close on

(Note that this run uses command -dev rather than -outdev in order
to load the existing directory tree of the image and to merge it
with the newly added file tree.)

Maybe it will then be recognized faster by the DVD-ROM.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

Bug#459219: ITP: android

2012-09-23 Thread Adnan Hodzic
I generally agree with what Laszlo and you said, and android-tools
(adb, fastboot and perhaps others?) package should appear in Debian as
soon as possible. If I can help in any way to make that goal happen,
please do let me know.

On the other side, I still haven't given up on my idea of
android-sdk-installer.

More info:
http://foolcontrol.org/?p=1545
and/or
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/07/android-sdk-installer-for-linux-debianubuntu

Which bundles all the components from udev rules over Eclipse plugin
to SDK itself into single package. I just need more time to realize
this idea, as currently I'm the only one working on it and this isn't
my full time job.

I don't need to develop android applications, I mainly just need adb and
fastboot in order to talk to and boot my devices. I found these (slightly

 What do you think?

Bug#671364: dma package uses outdated (2 y/o) upstream dma version

that sounds good. Do you have a rough estimate when you will find time
to synchronize the Debian package with upstream? As it looks to me, you
two also disagree about the usefulness of some patches. Is there a
roadmap what to do with them?

Note, from my - ignorant - position it is almost always suboptimal to
carry invasive non-mergeable patches in the long term.

Given Simon also provides Debian packages, would you be interested in
team maintenance together with him (pretending he's interested)? Maybe
you could even join dma development upstream and decide there about
patches and features? That would be ideal.

If you both are interested, I am also offering my help with respect to
the package maintenance. That said, I am not in the position or
interested to decide about the usefulness of patches in cases where you
two disagree.

Apologies again, and thanks for the patience to you both (and anyone
else who might be listening in)!

Thanks, as for me there is no need to, though. I just stumbled into this
bug as a dma user. :)

freezing, but not at the same time --
I get error messages about stuck CPUs prior to the computer becoming completely
unusable. This is a data loss issue
for me because the only fix I can use to get the computer working again is a
reset, which can mean that cached
data from recent work is not written to the hard drive. The issue had not
previously impacted my desktop work too much,
as long as any programs that I ran saved their state at reasonably frequent
intervals or did not take more than a
day or so to run. I have since replaced the computer with another system at my
work, but now use the sytem at home
as an experimental web server, where intermittent, difficult-to-repeat CPU
freezes are a bit more of a problem for me.

This was a system that had been kept in storage for about a year while I was in
Germany, so I thought it might
have been a hardware problem, but I've always had the thought of a software bug
in the back of my head (this is
my first report of the issue). Prior to my trip to Germany, I had been running
Debian unstable fine (within expected
limits) for about 5 years (although the installation was 32-bit rather than the
current 64-bit version). I have tried
to update the kernels in an attempt to fix this problem, to no avail. The
current kernel is from experimental,
because I am always hoping that the next version will fix the problem.

There does not seem to be any relationship between anything obvious and the CPU
freezes. Considering it might be
a hardware issue, I gave the computer a good clean with no change in behaviour.
A brief memcheck (one pass) seemed
fine. It is possible that the issue ocurrs more frequently under high load, but
that might just be because I'm more
likely to be around the computer when it's doing more things at once.

An example dump from syslog is shown below:

Bug#681409: xserver-xorg-input-all: Keyboard suddenly unresponsive, mouse still works

2012-09-23 Thread Roland Haeder
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+1
Followup-For: Bug #681409

Dear Maintainer,

There is a work-around from Jim Minter:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=589953

So the 'SlowKeys' feature may have caused this trouble as it got suddenly
turned on (out of unknown origin).

That won't work, just tried it. The only package from gcc-defaults that
could be involved in the problematic upgrade paths is gcj-jre-headless

wrong. You even include another one below:

 libgcj-bc 4.7.1-1

and libgcj-common.

Bug#688514: Conflicting declarations of variable ipc_pollfunc_ptr

2012-09-23 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Package: cluster-glue
Version: 1.0.9+hg2665-1

While building the package using our research compiler infrastructure we
noticed the following conflicting declarations:

- ./lib/clplumbing/ipcsocket.c:extern int (*ipc_pollfunc_ptr)(struct pollfd *,
nfds_t, int);
- ./lib/clplumbing/ocf_ipc.c:int (*ipc_pollfunc_ptr)(struct pollfd*, unsigned
int, int)

with nfds_t being unsigned long int. This may cause undefined behaviour if
values larger than UINT_MAX are passed to *ipc_pollfunc_ptr.

Best,
Michael

Bug#688515: Conflicting initializers for variable rw_static

2012-09-23 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Package: courier
Version: 0.68.2-1

While building the package using our research compiler infrastructure we noticed
the following duplication initialisation of rw_static:

- ./courier/module.uucp/staticlist.c:struct rw_static_info rw_static[] = { ... }
- ./courier/module.esmtp/staticlist.c:struct rw_static_info rw_static[] = { ...
}
- ./courier/libs/lcrwstatic.h:struct rw_static_info rw_static[] = { ... }

In each of those three cases, different values are put into the array; it is
undefined which of those the linker will chose as final values for
initialisation.

Michael

Bug#688517: kate: Kate unable to save new files

2012-09-23 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky

Package: kate
Version: 4:4.8.4-1
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

When I attempt to save a new file, the dialog box opens but remains
completely blank.

When I attempt to use the file system browser plugin to display contents
of the filesystem, that box appears completely blank.

In both cases, I get a dialog box window that appears with the
notification, Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'file'.

I've reinstalled libkio5. I have updated my system to kde-standard.

Bug#688521: SILO first boot after power-on or reset fails on Netra T1 200

Bug#688522: hardening-includes: hardening-check - please consider invoking readelf fewer times

2012-09-23 Thread Niels Thykier
Package: hardening-includes
Version: 2.2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Currently hardening-check invokes readelf 3 times per ELF file. It is
my understanding that forking is significantly more expensive on
kFreeBSD based platforms. Please consider reducing it to at most once
per file.

It is possible to reduce the number of readelf calls even more by
using (e.g.) xargs, though it is hardly trivial. If you need
inspiration for this case, consider looking at
collection/object-dump{,-helper} in Lintian.

Below sample ad-hoc patch I used for testing. It seems to work ok,
but not tested a lot and has a couple of style issues... :)

Bug#686033: libgl1-nvidia-glx: 304.37-1 libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386, removes libgl1-nvidia-glx (amd64) and Nvidia driver

2012-09-23 Thread Ralf Jung
Hi,

with the 304 drivers in current unstable, this bug even means that 32bit
apps get no acceleration at all since the ia32 packages have already
been removed.

I can confirm that the patch by you, Andreas, is working fine. The
problems with the conffile are caused by a bug in dpkg [1] and there are
other packages triggering it, like libpam-modules. Would it be
appropriate for the NVidia packagers to do an NMU on libxvmc to fix this
situation? Note that I am not speaking about Wheezy here, but about the
current broken status of Sid.
If that'd be of any help, I could do an upload to mentors.d.o (don't
know if that's also used for NMUs, sorry if this is wrong).

Kind regards,
Ralf

Please do name them: the only one we are aware of with this bug report

So it would be great if you could either document the requirements for

po4a-handle translations are currently only looked for in the upstream

 Dear Maintainer,

When using nomodeset and vga=788 in the boot parameters, the
machine hang at
fb: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs VESA VGA - removing
generic driver
on a machine with Intel VGA card.
This happens no matter it's 686-pae kernel, or i486 one.
Since the Intel VGA card in very common, please consider to make
framebuffer work for KMS disabled.

DRM drivers with KMS *are* framebuffer drivers. I think you mean 'keep
 VGA console working'.

 How to reproduce this:
 1. Create a Debian live based on Sid:
 http://live-build.debian.net/cgi-bin/live-build
 2. Burn the created iso on a CD, then boot it on a machine with
Intel VGA card
 3. In the 1st boot menu of isolinux, press Tab key to modify the
boot parameters. Just append nomodeset vga=788, then press enter to
continue boot
 4. The above error will shown, and it just hangs there.

This is really weird because i915 just shouldn't register a console at
all if you do that... Ah, but xserver-video-xorg-intel still installs a
 configuration file which *overrides* nomodeset
(/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf). (There was a very good reason for
doing that in squeeze, but I think it can be dropped now.)

So you could avoid installing xserver-video-xorg-intel, or empty the
 configuration file.

Still, the kernel should be able to switch without hanging (and normally
does). Does this *only* happen if you use 'nomodeset vga=788' or does
it also happen if you use 'vga=788'?
It only happens when I use 'nomodeset vga=788'.

Does /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf exist in the live system?
Apparently /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf is from package
xserver-xorg-video-intel, however, since the Debian live CD I created is
in for text mode, this package xserver-xorg-video-intel is not included.
Therefore no /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf in the live system.
I believe this is the same case for xserver-xorg-video-radeon,

Steven.

However, when using vga=788, actually it won't work since the console
screen is not in the 800x600 text mode. It's in KMS mode I believe.

Yes, by default i915 will load and set the screen mode immediately.

 Ben.

I confirm the upgrade process is left is a deeply broken state, which

I had to manually dpkg -i a few dozen packages in the right order
before apt-get could get back to a working state.

vlc-cache-gen was run in postinst prior to 2.0.0-1. I dunno, why it
 is still called.

I had a look, immediately after seeing apt-get/dpkg aborted by this

present, and it did contain a call to vlc-cache-gen.

It looks to me as if the file trigger set by vlc-nox on
/usr/lib/vlc/plugins made the old vlc-nox.postinst run *before*
vlc-nox is upgraded (and before that old postinst is removed).

Bug#688229: Burning data DVD looks successful but mounting fails with ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.

2012-09-23 Thread Paul Menzel
Dear Thomas,

Am Sonntag, den 23.09.2012, 13:03 +0200 schrieb Thomas Schmitt:

  Could you please CC me

I will try to remember. :)
But maybe you better subscribe by a mail to
   688229-subscr...@bugs.debian.org

I would like to avoid that, because it also requires confirmation and I
think »Reply to all« is easier. But I will do so next time, it happens.

Is there some way to simulate a burner to find out what happened?

libburn would accept burner addresses like
   stdio:/tmp/my_emulated_drive
which would behave like DVD-RAM or DVD+RW. I.e. quite different
from DVD-R or DVD+R. Nevertheless such an emulated drive would
allow to exercise the communications between libisofs and libburn,
 as done by Brasero.

I do not know how to make Brasero use such a drive address.
Probably one would have to hack its source.

I will take a look.

 Gr.

That really is strange.

 ?

I will try to and will contact you again next week.

  Everything worked fine with `xorriso`.

  $ xorriso -md5 on -outdev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test /

Well ... Yay and G at the same time.
Yay for xorriso and the drive, Grrr for my inability to explain what
went wrong with the Brsaero DVD-R.

Grrr³ from my side to not understanding anything. ;-)

   $ cp ...a...few...files... ~/test2
   $ xorriso -md5 on -dev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test2 /test2 -close on

(Note that this run uses command -dev rather than -outdev in order
to load the existing directory tree of the image and to merge it
with the newly added file tree.)

Maybe it will then be recognized faster by the DVD-ROM.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I already gave the DVD away.
Maybe I have a chance to look into it again.

Thanks,

Paul

Bug#688527: manual xorriso.1: Please document how to set a name for the medium

2012-09-23 Thread Paul Menzel
Package: xorriso
Version: 1.2.2-2
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Debian folks,

reading the manual (more like skimming over and searching) I could not
find a way to set the name for the medium. That name is later used by
programs like `udisks` to name the mount point.

The current default seems to »ISOIMAGE«.

Maybe I just do not know the terms I need to search for. Then I am sorry
for bothering you.

Thanks,

Paul

Dear Maintainer,

The old bug report still holds true and is also resolvable by aptitude install

python-aureas clearly should depend on libpython* ...

Thank you for your time invested in Debian.

Bug#688528: munin-node: iostat_ios broken on i386 after wheezy upgrade

2012-09-23 Thread Christoph Biedl
Package: munin-node
Version: 2.0.6-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading from squeeze[0] to wheezy I noticed the iostat_ios graphs
are empty.

The error messages in node-log were helpful:

2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Error output from iostat_ios:
2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Byte order is not compatible at
/usr/lib/perl/5.14/Storable.pm line 379, at /etc/munin/plugins/iostat_ios line
216
2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Service 'iostat_ios' exited with status 25/0.

Problem: The storable format went through an obviously incompatible
change between squeeze (Perl 5.10) and wheezy (Perl 5.14), at least on
i386 (not on amd64, though).

How to repeat:

On i386, for both squeeze and wheezy, run

$ perl -e 'use Storable qw(store); store ({}, $^V.storable)'

then

$ perl -e 'use Storable qw(retrieve); print $^V\n; foreach (@ARGV) { print
$_\n; eval { retrieve ($_) } or print FAIL: $@ }' *.storable

Output for squeeze:

v5.10.1
v5.10.1.storable
v5.14.2.storable
FAIL: Byte order is not compatible at ../../lib/Storable.pm (autosplit into
../../lib/auto/Storable/_retrieve.al) line 380, at -e line 1

Output for wheezy:

v5.14.2
v5.10.1.storable
FAIL: Byte order is not compatible at /usr/lib/perl/5.14/Storable.pm line
379, at -e line 1
v5.14.2.storable

How to fix:

At first, handle retrieve failures gracefully:

 sub get_state {
 my ($R);
 return(undef) unless ( -r STATEFILE);
-$R = retrieve( STATEFILE );
+eval { $R = retrieve( STATEFILE ); };
 return($R);
 }

And second, please do never use store unless you really know what
you're doing and you're willing to suffer from a lot of pain, like
here. Use nstore instead. If that plugin would have used nstore in
the first place, the entire upgrade would have been smoothless.

Cheers,
Christoph

[0] More precisely, the upgrade was from a 2.0.6 backport but I doubt
this makes a difference.

Bug#678216: icewm-themes: copyright file does not give location of source, licence statements not included

2012-09-23 Thread intrigeri
Hi Eduard,

Stuart Prescott wrote (19 Jun 2012 22:48:19 GMT) :
We were looking at this package as a result of a question on #debian
and realised that, on the basis of the information in
debian/copyright, we had no idea where these themes had actually
come from and that there was no evidence that these themes were
indeed licensed under the GPL-2 as asserted.

Any progress on this RC bug that affects Wheezy?

If you need help dealing with it, I suggest tagging the bug as such.

Cheers,

Description-en: configuration and management utilities for Apple AirPort base
stations
This package contains various utilities to manage the Apple AirPort base
 stations.
 .
 Be aware that Apple released several versions of the AirPort base station;
the original AirPort (Graphite) was a rebranded Lucent RG-1000 base
station, doing 802.11a/b. The AirPort Extreme (Snow) is an Apple-built
 802.11a/b/g base station.
 .
For the original Apple AirPort and the Lucent RG-1000 base stations only:
   - airport-config: base station configurator
   - airport-linkmon: wireless link monitor, gives information on the wireless
link quality between the base station and the associated hosts
 .
For the Apple AirPort Extreme base stations only:
   - airport2-config: base station configurator
   - airport2-portinspector: port maps monitor
   - airport2-ipinspector: WAN interface monitoring utility
 .
 For all:
  - airport-modem: modem control utility, displays modem state, starts/stops
modem connections, displays the approximate connection time (Extreme only)
  - airport-hostmon: wireless hosts monitor, lists wireless hosts connected
to the base station (see airport2-portinspector for the Snow)

Description-en: media server with support for RSP, DAAP, DACP and AirTunes
forked-daapd is an iTunes-compatible media server, originally intended
as a rewrite of Firefly Media Server (also known as mt-daapd).
 .
It supports a wide range of audio formats, can stream video to iTunes,
FrontRow and other compatible clients, has support for Apple's Remote
iPhone/iPod application and can stream music to AirTunes devices like
 the AirPort Express.
 .
It also features RSP support for Roku's SoundBridge devices.
 .
Built-in, on-the-fly decoding support enables serving popular free music
formats like FLAC, Ogg Vorbis or Musepack to those clients that do not
 otherwise support them.
