I can not mount a USB key under /media because they belong to root. How can i achieve this ? The same way as you would on the host system, especially since the files under /dev/ are bind mounted from the host. This is not, I think, something that schroot itself should cater for. Tools like pmount and more recent tools used by common desktop environments for mounting removable media should work inside the chroot as well; particuarly when using the desktop profile. If there's anything we can add to that profile to make desktop removable media support work better, then we can certainly look at adding that. Bug#688503: Missing keymap in initramfs file when `console-setup' is not installed
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.108 If one have package `console-setup' not installed, `update-initramfs' does not include the keymap into the initramfs file generated. A look into `/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/keymap' shows that the keymap is copied by using `/bin/setupcon' from the `console-setup'. But neither is `console-setup' an essential package. nor does `initramfs-tools' depend on it. Moreover the keymap hook `exit's with 0 if `/bin/loadkeys' or `/bin/setupcon' (as in my case) is missing. Is this really the intended behaviour? I suggest to add `console-setup' as a dependency for `initramfs-tool' and add an error or at least a warning if the keymap has to be loaded (by `KEYMAP=y' `initramfs-tools' configuration) but one of the above tools is missing. Moreover I suggest to use `KEYMAP=y' as default in `/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf' since imho many Debian users have a non-QWERTY keyboard layout. I am using Debian GNU/Linux sid, kernel 3.2.0-3 and libc6 2.13-35. Cheers, Dirk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#688505: MariaDB packaging.
Package: mysql-server Version: 5.5.24+dfsg-8 Severity: wishlist My very technically savvy webhost has recently switched from MySQL to MariaDB and claim it's for both technical and political reasons. Both of these reasons (better performance and better licensing) appear to be good reasons for the software to be packaged as a Debian package and I expect it's getting to the point that someone will do it themselves. BUT the software is technically still not a forked variant of MySQL but a patched version where the maintainers continually resync to the Oracle releases. For this reason I would like to see it treated as just a simple MySQL version within Debian. This way the users (ie: me) can simply switch by prodding apt in the right way. For this to work seamlessly (unlike, for example, the recent multimedia troubles) the MariaDB package should be packaged identically to MySQL, which IMO is best done by the same Debian maintainers. So my request is that you package the MariaDB as a secondary version of MySQL in such a way that the two packages can be seamlessly switched within the Debian system. -- Rob. Thanks for working on getting the android development stuff packaged! I think I agree with what Laszlo said about having separate package for some things (although mainly at the binary package level, I guess I don't care at the source package level). I don't need to develop android applications, I mainly just need adb and fastboot in order to talk to and boot my devices. I found these (slightly older, but maybe still relevant) howtos http://lackingrhoticity.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-build-adb-android-debugg er.html http://mancoosi.org/~abate/build-android-adb-debian-sid-amd64 It would be nice to be able to install adb without having to install the whole SDK and java (and avoid downloading binaries and weird licenses, etc). Every time now, its just happened again with updating this morning. Searching your apt conf. for the term “timeout” matches this entry: DPkg::Post-Invoke:: /usr/bin/test -e /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.PackageKit.service /usr/bin/test -S /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket /usr/bin/gdbus call --system --dest org.freedesktop.PackageKit --object-path /org/freedesktop/PackageKit --timeout 1 --method org.freedesktop.PackageKit.StateHasChanged cache-update /dev/null; /bin/echo /dev/null; which is calling /usr/bin/gdbus. Grepping the source of that package (libglib2.0-bin) indicates that it does contain a “Timeout was reached” error. This entry is added by packagekit, so reassigning. Fair enough, thanks. Bug#687408: mdp: FTBFS: test failed
Hi, those tests sometimes fail because there is some randomness involved. They test the convergence of some algorithms, and sometimes the get stuck in local optima. The fix is to test the package during build with a fixed random seed, so that we only get real failing tests: if the fixed random seed no test is failing on the maintainer machine, no test should fail on the buildbots. I already implemented the fix, and will try to find a sponsor to upload the fixed package in the next days... I do not mean the complete DM permission lists (i.e. http://ftp-master.debian.org/dm.txt) but permission changes becoming effective including the advocate who did. The easiest and perfectly acceptable solution would be to send processed *.commands file including its GPG signature to debian-devel-changes, just like the way dak does for *.changes files. That would also provide comments the advocate possibly included in his advocation command. Alternatively, I guess I could also live with the person's fingerprint next to an individual package wo emitted that change (although that may miss Deny changes which I find important, too). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Brasero did order libisofs to produce a Joliet tree. But it should be stored several blocks after block 16. Before Joliet there should be volume descriptors and the ISO 9660 + Rock Ridge tree. It is clear that no reader software wants to accept this as ISO 9660 filesystem. Bug#688511: better support for multiple routing tables
Package: aiccu Version: 20070115-15.1 Severity: wishlist Hi, On my home router, I have an OpenVPN tunnel to one of my servers with native IPv6, and would also like to have a SixXS tunnel as backup to be able to reach home even when my own IPv6 setup is crippled. To do so, I would like to use a setup like this, which I use successfully on routers which have multiple IPv6 uplinks: - have no IPv6 default route in the main routing table - have one additional routing table per uplink (in my case, a sixxs and a openvpn table), which only hold a single default route, pointing to the respective gateway - ip -6 rule add sixxs-prefix table sixxs pref 32769 - ip -6 rule add openvpn-prefix table openvpn pref 32770 Currently, I can choose whether I want to have a default route set by aiccu into my main routing table, where it would break the openvpn tunnel, or no default route at all, setting it manually via a setupscript. Please consider (as alternatives) (1) adapting the syntax so that defaultroute tablename becomes a valid configuration option, causing the default route to be written in the named table. That way, true and false cannot be used as table name, but I guess that would be OK. (2) making the IP address of the gateway available in setuptscript's environment so that there is no need to hard-code the IP address there (3) running the setupscript parameter through a shell to make constructs like setupscript ifup sixxs or setupscript foo parameter possible (4) Add a unsetupscript option to have a script executed when aiccu takes a tunnel down to undo things introduced by the setupscript option (5) add a routingtable option to cause aiccu to make all its changes to a special routingable Thanks in advance! Bug#688229: Burning data DVD looks successful but mounting fails with ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.
Hi, Could you please CC me I will try to remember. :) But maybe you better subscribe by a mail to 688229-subscr...@bugs.debian.org Is there some way to simulate a burner to find out what happened? libburn would accept burner addresses like stdio:/tmp/my_emulated_drive which would behave like DVD-RAM or DVD+RW. I.e. quite different from DVD-R or DVD+R. Nevertheless such an emulated drive would allow to exercise the communications between libisofs and libburn, as done by Brasero. I do not know how to make Brasero use such a drive address. Probably one would have to hack its source. Another way to exercise DVD-R is to use DVD-RW. They need to get blanked before re-use. E.g. by xorriso -outdev /dev/sr1 -blank deformat -eject all This lasts as long as writing the full capacity of 4.7 GB. (Fast blanking is possible but the DVD-RW would afterwards refuse to perform the write type Incremental which is used by Brasero.) Some numbers from your reports are against my theory of a missing start piece: libisofs reported: brasero (libisofs)DEBUG : Processed 2119108 of 2119108 KB (100 %) dvd+rw-mediainfo and xorriso -toc report a track size of 1059568*2KB The overall sizeis of image and track would match. 2 * 1059568 - 2119108 = 28 The track size is aligned to a DVD ECC block of 32 KiB. The track was written by write type Incremental. I.e. it is supposed to bear only the bytes which were actually written, rounded up to the next multiple of 16 blocks (= 32 KiB). If a start piece of the image would be missing, then the track would have to be shorter. Gr. I assume you too live in Germany. If so: Would the images on the DVD be non-private enough and would you want to invest 1.45 Euro into a mail stamp in order to send me that DVD-R for closer inspection ? Or do you have 2 GB of internet storage from where i could download a copy of the medium made by dd if=/dev/sr1 bs=2048 of=/tmp/copy_of_dev_sr1 ? Everything worked fine with `xorriso`. $ xorriso -md5 on -outdev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test / Well ... Yay and G at the same time. Yay for xorriso and the drive, Grrr for my inability to explain what went wrong with the Brsaero DVD-R. The only thing I noticed, that another DVD drive, the Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1712, needed more than 25 seconds to recognize the disc. This might be due to the fact that the medium is still appendable, unlike the one from Brasero. I.e. you could add more files by xorriso or growisofs. How is recognition time with the burner ? In order to get a closed DVD-R, you would have to use command -close on E.g. with the now appendable DVD-R medium $ mkdir ~/test2 $ cp ...a...few...files... ~/test2 $ xorriso -md5 on -dev /dev/sr1 -map ~/test2 /test2 -close on (Note that this run uses command -dev rather than -outdev in order to load the existing directory tree of the image and to merge it with the newly added file tree.) Maybe it will then be recognized faster by the DVD-ROM. Have a nice day :) Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I found the problem: the owncloud package doesn't depend on libapache2-mod-php5, so it wasn't automatically installed when I installed owncloud itself. After I manually installed libapache2-mod-php5 everything started working. So adding that dependency to the owncloud package should fix the bug, I think. The owncloud package depends on php5, which depends on libapache2-mod-php5 (or libapache2-mod-php5filter or php5-cgi or php5-fpm), so it should've worked. Bug#459219: ITP: android
I generally agree with what Laszlo and you said, and android-tools (adb, fastboot and perhaps others?) package should appear in Debian as soon as possible. If I can help in any way to make that goal happen, please do let me know. On the other side, I still haven't given up on my idea of android-sdk-installer. More info: http://foolcontrol.org/?p=1545 and/or http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/07/android-sdk-installer-for-linux-debianubuntu Which bundles all the components from udev rules over Eclipse plugin to SDK itself into single package. I just need more time to realize this idea, as currently I'm the only one working on it and this isn't my full time job. Adnan On Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 10:55 AM, Matt Taggart tagg...@debian.org wrote: Thanks for working on getting the android development stuff packaged! I think I agree with what Laszlo said about having separate package for some things (although mainly at the binary package level, I guess I don't care at the source package level). Bug#671364: dma package uses outdated (2 y/o) upstream dma version
Hi, On 12.09.2012 11:08, Peter Pentchev wrote: In the past week I have tried to pick up my Debian work and, yes, I will indeed try to update dma to a (much, much) more recent upstream version very soon. that sounds good. Do you have a rough estimate when you will find time to synchronize the Debian package with upstream? As it looks to me, you two also disagree about the usefulness of some patches. Is there a roadmap what to do with them? Note, from my - ignorant - position it is almost always suboptimal to carry invasive non-mergeable patches in the long term. Given Simon also provides Debian packages, would you be interested in team maintenance together with him (pretending he's interested)? Maybe you could even join dma development upstream and decide there about patches and features? That would be ideal. If you both are interested, I am also offering my help with respect to the package maintenance. That said, I am not in the position or interested to decide about the usefulness of patches in cases where you two disagree. Apologies again, and thanks for the patience to you both (and anyone else who might be listening in)! Thanks, as for me there is no need to, though. I just stumbled into this bug as a dma user. :) -- with kind regards, Arno Töll IRC: daemonkeeper on Freenode/OFTC GnuPG Key-ID: 0x9D80F36D signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#688513: linux-image-3.5-trunk-amd64: soft lockup (CPU#1 stuck for stuck for Xs!) on Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
Package: src:linux Version: 3.5.2-1~experimental.1 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss Dear Maintainer, Since returning to NZ and reinstalling Debian unstable on my computer in March this year, I have had issues with my computer freezing about once per week. This seems to be due to both CPUs freezing, but not at the same time -- I get error messages about stuck CPUs prior to the computer becoming completely unusable. This is a data loss issue for me because the only fix I can use to get the computer working again is a reset, which can mean that cached data from recent work is not written to the hard drive. The issue had not previously impacted my desktop work too much, as long as any programs that I ran saved their state at reasonably frequent intervals or did not take more than a day or so to run. I have since replaced the computer with another system at my work, but now use the sytem at home as an experimental web server, where intermittent, difficult-to-repeat CPU freezes are a bit more of a problem for me. This was a system that had been kept in storage for about a year while I was in Germany, so I thought it might have been a hardware problem, but I've always had the thought of a software bug in the back of my head (this is my first report of the issue). Prior to my trip to Germany, I had been running Debian unstable fine (within expected limits) for about 5 years (although the installation was 32-bit rather than the current 64-bit version). I have tried to update the kernels in an attempt to fix this problem, to no avail. The current kernel is from experimental, because I am always hoping that the next version will fix the problem. There does not seem to be any relationship between anything obvious and the CPU freezes. Considering it might be a hardware issue, I gave the computer a good clean with no change in behaviour. A brief memcheck (one pass) seemed fine. It is possible that the issue ocurrs more frequently under high load, but that might just be because I'm more likely to be around the computer when it's doing more things at once. Bug#688522: hardening-includes: hardening-check - please consider invoking readelf fewer times
Package: hardening-includes Version: 2.2 Severity: wishlist Hi, Currently hardening-check invokes readelf 3 times per ELF file. It is my understanding that forking is significantly more expensive on kFreeBSD based platforms. Please consider reducing it to at most once per file. It is possible to reduce the number of readelf calls even more by using (e.g.) xargs, though it is hardly trivial. If you need inspiration for this case, consider looking at collection/object-dump{,-helper} in Lintian. Below sample ad-hoc patch I used for testing. Hi, with the 304 drivers in current unstable, this bug even means that 32bit apps get no acceleration at all since the ia32 packages have already been removed. I can confirm that the patch by you, Andreas, is working fine. The problems with the conffile are caused by a bug in dpkg [1] and there are other packages triggering it, like libpam-modules. Would it be appropriate for the NVidia packagers to do an NMU on libxvmc to fix this situation? Note that I am not speaking about Wheezy here, but about the current broken status of Sid. If that'd be of any help, I could do an upload to mentors.d.o (don't know if that's also used for NMUs, sorry if this is wrong). This happens no matter it's 686-pae kernel, or i486 one. Since the Intel VGA card in very common, please consider to make framebuffer work for KMS disabled. DRM drivers with KMS *are* framebuffer drivers. I think you mean 'keep VGA console working'. How to reproduce this: 1. Create a Debian live based on Sid: http://live-build.debian.net/cgi-bin/live-build 2. Burn the created iso on a CD, then boot it on a machine with Intel VGA card 3. In the 1st boot menu of isolinux, press Tab key to modify the boot parameters. Just append nomodeset vga=788, then press enter to continue boot 4. The above error will shown, and it just hangs there. This is really weird because i915 just shouldn't register a console at all if you do that... Ah, but xserver-video-xorg-intel still installs a configuration file which *overrides* nomodeset (/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf). (There was a very good reason for doing that in squeeze, but I think it can be dropped now.) So you could avoid installing xserver-video-xorg-intel, or empty the configuration file. Still, the kernel should be able to switch without hanging (and normally does). Does this *only* happen if you use 'nomodeset vga=788' or does it also happen if you use 'vga=788'? It only happens when I use 'nomodeset vga=788'. Does /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf exist in the live system? Apparently /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf is from package xserver-xorg-video-intel, however, since the Debian live CD I created is in for text mode, this package xserver-xorg-video-intel is not included. Therefore no /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf in the live system. I believe this is the same case for xserver-xorg-video-radeon, Steven. However, when using vga=788, actually it won't work since the console screen is not in the 800x600 text mode. It's in KMS mode I believe. Yes, by default i915 will load and set the screen mode immediately. But I will do so next time, it happens. Is there some way to simulate a burner to find out what happened? libburn would accept burner addresses like stdio:/tmp/my_emulated_drive which would behave like DVD-RAM or DVD+RW. I.e. quite different from DVD-R or DVD+R. Nevertheless such an emulated drive would allow to exercise the communications between libisofs and libburn, as done by Brasero. I do not know how to make Brasero use such a drive address. Probably one would have to hack its source. I will take a look. Gr. That really is strange. I will try to and will contact you again next week. Grrr³ from my side to not understanding anything. ;-) The only thing I noticed, that another DVD drive, the Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1712, needed more than 25 seconds to recognize the disc. Thank you for the detailed explanation. I already gave the DVD away. Maybe I have a chance to look into it again. Bug#688527: manual xorriso.1: Please document how to set a name for the medium
Package: xorriso Version: 1.2.2-2 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Dear Debian folks, reading the manual (more like skimming over and searching) I could not find a way to set the name for the medium. That name is later used by programs like `udisks` to name the mount point. The current default seems to »ISOIMAGE«. Maybe I just do not know the terms I need to search for. Bug#688528: munin-node: iostat_ios broken on i386 after wheezy upgrade
Package: munin-node Version: 2.0.6-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, after upgrading from squeeze[0] to wheezy I noticed the iostat_ios graphs are empty. The error messages in node-log were helpful: 2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Error output from iostat_ios: 2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Byte order is not compatible at /usr/lib/perl/5.14/Storable.pm line 379, at /etc/munin/plugins/iostat_ios line 216 2012/09/23-16:05:10 [12979] Service 'iostat_ios' exited with status 25/0. Problem: The storable format went through an obviously incompatible change between squeeze (Perl 5.10) and wheezy (Perl 5.14), at least on i386 (not on amd64, though). How to repeat: On i386, for both squeeze and wheezy, run $ perl -e 'use Storable qw(store); store ({}, $^V.storable)' then $ perl -e 'use Storable qw(retrieve); print $^V\n; foreach (@ARGV) { print $_\n; eval { retrieve ($_) } or print FAIL: $@ }' *.storable Output for squeeze: v5.10.1 v5.10.1.storable v5.14.2.storable FAIL: Byte order is not compatible at ../../lib/Storable.pm (autosplit into ../../lib/auto/Storable/_retrieve.al) line 380, at -e line 1 Output for wheezy: v5.14.2 v5.10.1.storable FAIL: Byte order is not compatible at /usr/lib/perl/5.14/Storable.pm line 379, at -e line 1 v5.14.2.storable How to fix: At first, handle retrieve failures gracefully: sub get_state { my ($R); return(undef) unless ( -r STATEFILE); -$R = retrieve( STATEFILE ); +eval { $R = retrieve( STATEFILE ); }; return($R); } And second, please do never use store unless you really know what you're doing and you're willing to suffer from a lot of pain, like here. Use nstore instead. If that plugin would have used nstore in the first place, the entire upgrade would have been smoothless. Cheers, Christoph [0] More precisely, the upgrade was from a 2.0.6 backport but I doubt this makes a difference. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.4.11 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages munin-node depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii gawk1:4.0.1+dfsg-2 ii libnet-server-perl 2.006-1 ii lsb-base4.1+Debian7 ii munin-common2.0.6-1 ii munin-plugins-core 2.0.6-1 ii perl5.14.2-13 ii procps 1:3.3.3-2 Versions of packages munin-node recommends: ii libnet-snmp-perl 6.0.1-2 ii munin-plugins-extra 2.0.6-1 Versions of packages munin-node suggests: ii ethtool 1:3.4.2-1 ii hdparm9.39-1+b1 pn libcache-cache-perl none pn libcrypt-ssleay-perl none pn libdbd-mysql-perl none pn libdbd-pg-perlnone pn liblwp-useragent-determined-perl none pn libnet-irc-perl none pn libtext-csv-xs-perl none ii libwww-perl 6.04-1 pn libxml-simple-perlnone ii lm-sensors1:3.3.2-2 pn logtail none pn munin none pn munin-plugins-javanone pn mysql-client none ii net-tools 1.60-24.2 ii python2.7.3~rc2-1 pn ruby none ii smartmontools 5.41+svn3365-1 -- no debconf information signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#678216: icewm-themes: copyright file does not give location of source, licence statements not included
Hi Eduard, Stuart Prescott wrote (19 Jun 2012 22:48:19 GMT) : We were looking at this package as a result of a question on #debian and realised that, on the basis of the information in debian/copyright, we had no idea where these themes had actually come from and that there was no evidence that these themes were indeed licensed under the GPL-2 as asserted. Any progress on this RC bug that affects Wheezy? If you need help dealing with it, I suggest tagging the bug as such.
