I dug a little bit more in there and it turns out the file debian/patches/support-py3k.patch is responsible for this. It changes setup.py and hardcodes the 1.0.32 version (which is a very poor decision, imo). I think modifying the patch to have at least the PKGINFO matching the package version is the way to go. Thanks, and merry christmas! Alexandre
Bug#808223: python-pydot: wrong package version
Package: python-pydot Version: 1.0.28-1 Hello The package python-pydot has version 1.0.28 in debian. However the package installed reports as version 1.0.32 (see setup.py in the source package). This creates confusion with tools such as pip which don't see the same version reported by the package as the one reported by dpkg. Thanks for your time and dedication to Debian Alexandre
Bug#718448: icedove-l10n-fr: same problem with french l10n
Hello Karsten, Thanks for your time and help on this bug (Nadège is my spouse, and I'm acting as sysadmin for her). did this also happen if you have installed another language and you start Icedove from the Terminal? For example with french (icedove-l10n-es-es) $ LANG=es_ES.utf8 icedove I did as suggested: 1. install icedove-l10n-es 2. run from the command line alf@lacapelle:~$ LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 icedove I got the following output on stdout/stderr (icedove:11434): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. (icedove:11434): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library enigmail.js: Registered components mimeVerify.jsm: module initialized but the interface was displayed in spanish. I tried to start it in french from the command line (both by giving a value to the LANG environment variable and without, but my locale is configured correctly, tried LANG=fr too) without success. Bug#639347: RFA: psyco -- Python specializing compiler
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the psyco package, as I no longer use the package and cannot maintain it properly anymore. Due to lack of upstream support, maybe the package should be removed from Debian altogether, as supporting python 2.5 will require significant effort. Any feedback on this regard is welcome. The package description is: Psyco lets you run your existing Python software much faster, with no change in your source. . Think of Psyco as a kind of just-in-time (JIT) compiler, a little bit like Java's, that emit machine code on the fly instead of interpreting your Python program step by step. The result is that your unmodified Python programs run faster. . The plan for the next release is to include a fast low-level interpreter that can be used on non-Intel processors. It will finally make Psyco portable -- although of course not as fast as it could possibly be if it could emit real machine code. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#602798: kmail: change in spambayes executable name
Package: kmail Version: 4:4.4.6-1 Severity: normal Tags: sid patch Hello, I my latest upload of spambayes (1.0.4-6), I've brought the package inline with the Policy regarding script names in /usr/bin/ which should not have an extension such as .py. This impacts kmail, as kmail can use spambayes and expects /usr/bin/sb_filter.py to be available. For now, there is a workaround shipped in spambayes, which installs symbolic links in /usr/bin to ensure backward compatibility of the various scripts which may use the old commands, but I strongly recommend upgrading to the new interface. Bug#589172: please provide 2 packages: pyro and pyro4
As Sylvain said, pyro4 breaks the abi and therefore this upgrade breaks any application deployed on the system depending on pyro 3.x. The best move imo would be to keep pyro4 in experimental, since most users are using the official stable release (3.x branch), and reverting to pyro3 in sid/testing. I suggest providing 2 packages pyro and pyro4, which could at first conflict with each other. I think upstream should be contacted, and asked to change the namespace of pyro 4.x to pyro4 in order to ease parallel installation of both versions. In any case, please do not release squeeze with pyro 4.x as pyro. This will be very painful. We really want pyro 3.9 in squeeze, as 4.x will break external applications. However, it would be more usefull to have also a globalSetUp method that will be called before running the tests, and before calling setUp for the FIRST time. It would only be called once. The same is applicable for tearDown and globalTearDown. Most of the times there are things to be done before (or after) all the tests, but not before (or after) every test. Thank you. Hi, The python-unit package is there mostly for the graphical runner as unittest is available in the standard library. Moreover, this is a feature request on some upstream component. To do so please use the tracker of the project. Please read http://python.org/dev/patches/ and contribute the methods you need. Package: kmail Version: 4:4.3.1-2 Severity: important Hi, I'm having a small issue with kmail but it's getting annoying. I don't run KDE, I use gdm as a login manager, and an awesome session. Error message was: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply : Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. I have to relaunch kmail to get a window. On the second launch, I get the following messages: a...@lacapelle:~$ kmail a...@lacapelle:~$ kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so unknown program name(18502)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so unknown program name(18503)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_file.so kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/knotify4 A possible cause for this could be a timeout set to someting too small, which could go unnoticed for people using KDE because they already have a number of KDE-related processes running. Since I'm not using that environment, launching these extra processes takes some extra time and causes the timeout to occur. I'll be happy to help reproduce and fix this. Package: awesome Version: 3.3.2-1 Severity: important Hi, Since one week or so, I'm not able to send SIGINT to processes when running awesome. Simple test is: * launch a terminal * run ping localhost * try ctrl-C - nothing * try ctrl-Z, bg and kill -2 %1 - nothing kill -9 %1 works I'm reporting this one awesome because ctrl-c works fine on the text consoles of my computer, and I've tested this with xfce4, and ctrl-c works fine there. However, when examining /var/log/aptitude I've noticed that libcxb-* was updated on september 7, which could match the time when things started to get wrong. On Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 14:43, Chris Lambla...@debian.org wrote: Package: python-logilab-astng Severity: serious Version: 0.19.0-2 ... I can make it work by manually removing /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/logilab Since all the packages sharing logilab namespace have a new upstream version to package, it's a good time to try to fix this on all of them. The preinst file of logilab-astng is [1]: we already try to fix the migration (central-support) problem but we don't remove to common logilab/ directory. [1] http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-modules/packages/logilab-astng/trunk/d ebian/python-logilab-astng.preinst?view=markup I'd like to know what would be the best solution for this (hence -python in the loop): - logilab-common is the lower level of logilab* packages, so we can add conflict there with all the other logilab-* packages and then remove logilab/ completely from its preinst - add extra logic to all logilab* packages to check if /usr/lib/python*/site-packages/logilab is empty and then remove it (could there be cases where it left hanging dirs?) I'm considering teh second solution a bit better, but I'd like to hear from your what youi think. The problem I can see with removing blindly from the postinst is that potentially you're going to delete files belonging to other packages (e.g. older packages installed from Logilab's Debian repositories). Could the following work: logilab-common postinst removes /usr/lib/python*/site- packages/logilab/__init__.py*, and issues a warning if there are other stuff in the directory : this will stop packages installed under that tree from working without deleting the files themselves (enabling the administrator to find out what's broken with that installation). -- Alexandre Fayolle LOGILAB, Paris (France) Formations Python, Zope, Plone, Debian: http://www.logilab.fr/formations Développement logiciel sur mesure: http://www.logilab.fr/services Informatique scientifique: http://www.logilab.fr/science -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. So for now I'd like to have make call pylint to report only errors and the warning W0611. The obvious way to do so would be: pylint -e --enable-msg=W0611 ... But that does not work. In fact it turns our that once a warning has been disabled through -e, --disable-msg-cat or --disable-msg, it cannot be reenabled, no matter what order the options are in. The disable directives always have priority. So as is --enable-msg is completely useless and it's not possible to enable a specific message. Bug#478460: scientific-python-2.7.x supports numpy
Hi, I've discussed this issue with Konrad Hinsen recently, and it appears that ScientificPython 2.7.x (currently 2.7.8) supports numpy, and is stable (although tagged a developpement release by upstream). Bug#306459: pymacs: examples from the documentation don't work
Hi, After a long time, pymacs is coming back to life thanks to François Pinard who has started reviving the project. I've discussed this issue with him, and here's his answer (translation by yours truely): The user has tried to load the module using M-x pymacs-load RET re RET RET This loads the module on the Emacs list side (and of course in Python), but the variables to access the module are only available in Lisp. To create the re identifier on the Python side, you need to write M-x pymacs-exec RET import re RET and in that case the identifier is only available in Python and not in Lisp. Using this incantation solves the problem. Additionally the documentation will be clarified in the upcoming 0.23 release of pymacs. I'll close the bug report when that version is uploaded. -- Alexandre Fayolle LOGILAB, Paris (France) Formations Python, Zope, Plone, Debian: http://www.logilab.fr/formations Développement logiciel sur mesure: http://www.logilab.fr/services Informatique scientifique: http://www.logilab.fr/science signature.asc Description: Digital signature
