The problem referenced in this bug is fixed (at least in my local runs
of autopkgtest), but slime cannot migrate to testing until after sbcl
2.4.*.

Bug#1077655: ld.so(8): Debian patches to glibc leave documentation inaccurate

2024-07-31 Thread David Adam
Package: manpages
Version: 5.10-1
Severity: normal

(I have verified this problem exists on stable as well)

Dear Maintainer,

The ld.so(8) manpage notes that the "$LIB" string in
LD_PRELOAD/LD_LIBRARY_PATH/etc is expanded to either "lib" or "lib64".

Unfortunately, this is not in alignment with the current patches to
Debian's glibc. These set "$LIB" to "lib/(target-triplet)", eg
lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.

Is it possible to add a caveat about the behaviour on Debian?

Thanks,

David Adam

Thanks. I'm no subject matter expert, but I believe the issue has
something to do with the testsuite assuming all architectures
internally represent NaNs the same way, but that PA RISC and (some
variants of?) MIPS have a different encoding. See

I'm heading out of town (and away from email) for a few days, but
wanted to make sure to send a quick reply to this in the meantime.

Dear Maintainer,

if you could backport below mentioned patchset to correct VA-API

If I am not mistaken, this patch is not yet applied upstream. Please

Are you using apt-cacher-ng (or an other proxy) perhaps?
I don't use it myself, but I see somewhat frequent complains about it

Other people are quick to reply that they never had that problem ever

This may be fixed in the next upload. I'm currently running an
unofficial 4.8.0 package, and I cannot duplicate the problem there. When
we upload 4.8.1, I'll let you know and you can see if you can still
duplicate the problem.

It _might_ be related to differences in environment, so if you can
reproduce in a clean debian sid or trixie environment (including a
current kernel), that might be informative.

Bug#1077055:

2024-07-25 Thread David Lounsbrough
I realized RDK_BUILD_INCHI_SUPPORT is already set in the build script:
https://salsa.debian.org/debichem-team/rdkit/-/blob/master/Scripts/create_deb_packages.sh?ref_type=heads#L9.
Perhaps there is something else then that is causing the issue.

To reproduce, I simply ran this Dockerfile:

FROM postgres:16 AS postgres-env

RUN apt-get update && \

apt-get install -yq postgresql-16-rdkit && \

apt-get clean

Then when I try to build an inchi, rdkit give me an error saying inchi is
not available.

Example: `SELECT mol_inchi('CC'::mol)`  --> `InChI not available`

When I use this build then inchi works fine:
https://github.com/rvianello/docker-postgres-rdkit/blob/master/Dockerfile

I'm not sure what is missing in the build, but for some reason inchi
support is not there.

I wanted to ask if there's a reason that `inchi` support is not enabled for

You failed to mention what these "wrong characters" are…
perhaps with a copy or a screenshot.

If APT runs with an UTF-8 codeset it now uses utf8 block characters,
if it isn't it falls back to the "old" style of using #.

The code is here:
https://salsa.debian.org/apt-team/apt/-/blob/main/apt-pkg/install-progress.cc?ref_type=heads#L346-367
The block characters are btw:
 ▏ ▎ ▍ ▌ ▋ ▊ ▉ █
as in: those chars including & following "U+2588 FULL BLOCK"

So, honestly, I don't see much opportunity for apt to be wrong here
and would guess its either your transit layers messing up or your
chosen font not supporting these characters; but I am happy to be
proven wrong given utf8 isn't my expertise.

Raising the severity as RC: even if the fix is trivial, the package
looks pretty outdated (2.14.0 available upstream) and only useful for
kanboard that has been removed from testing almost a year ago. Thus,
removing the package from testing for now seems like an appropriate
clean up.

There are more problems of the same nature in glibc source:

./malloc/memusage.c:#ifdef _STACK_GROWS_UP

./include/stackinfo.h is okay but the other two usages of these defines look
wron.

This needs more research to determine whether this fail is caused
by a real problem (hppa is the only architecure where the stack

Bug#1076215: ax25-tools,dahdi-tools: install program with same name (sethdlc)

2024-07-12 Thread David Ranch

Hello Chris,

Ax25-tool's sethdlc program predates this far later Asterisk dahdi-tools
utility by decades so I would argue that Asterisk should change. That
said, I don't know if there is much use for the sethdlc tool these days
as it was used with legacy hardware. I've CCed DL9SAU here who supports
the the primary version of these tools at
https://linux-ax25.in-berlin.de/wiki/Main_Page to see what his thoughts
might be here.

Hi,

your packages ax25-tools and dahdi-tools both install a program
names "sethdlc", although in different components of the PATH.

As this is confusing and a possible source of bugs, policy bug
#1075856 wants to outlaw this.

Please find a solution for your packages. Ideas:
1) if one of the programs is an internal implementation detail of
the package, install it into a private path in /usr/lib instead.
2) rename one of the programs
3) rename both of the programs

Thanks,
Chris

Bug#1076046: wxwidgets3.2: FTBFS on hppa - tests depend on python3-greenlet

Dear Maintainer,

The wxwidgets3.2 testsuite depends python3-httpbin. python3-httpbin
depends on python3-greenlet. python3-greenlet currently has only been
ported to architectures where the stack grows down.

The attached patch disables the wxwidgets3.2 testsuite on hppa and

Thanks for maintaining apt/pl.po for 12 consecutive years now!
It happens to be that I was the committer back than, too.

Lets hope we all make it another 12 years for a repeat of that
achievement – optionally with a slightly higher update rate in between.

Bug#1075819: apt list --upgradable does not reflect snapshot state

I have never used this new snapshot feature, but I have the feeling what
is missing here is "just" the support in the command line parsing (as
that is a bit convoluted… entirely by my fault).

> root@c6220891b564:/# apt -S 2024-06-30T00:05:09Z list --upgradable

Does it work (show mawk?) with:
apt -o APT::Snapshot=2024-06-30T00:05:09Z list --upgradable
?

(-S/--snapshot are just cmdline sugar for this option)

I don't think it should "work" without the option set – and I have to
note that your config includes the option (with another timestamp).

It still looks like pretty strange behaviour to me. Does (nullmailer's

Hi Bernhard;

Thanks for the patch. This does seem to be progress, but I don't think
it completely fixes Axel's bug. At least for me I still see

child processes

and I get a non-zero exit code. I think the problem you found was
probably a crash during the reporting of the error message.

Actually, the regression is not caught in our CI even after enabling the
git specific tests. Anyway, I’ve prepared a simple fix, and checked that
it passes your initial PoC.

Red herring, as you don't seem to be using gpgv.

> ii gpgv2.2.43-7
> ii gpgv-from-sq [gpgv] 0.9.0-1

If I am informed correctly the later diverts the former, so you are
"secretly" using sq instead. apt 2.9.5 had a commit related to better
support of this setup, but I haven't tried it myself, nor do we have any
tests for this, and hence I don't know the objective qualification for
better – after all, the world burning slightly slower is arguably better
as well, even if its is still burning.

#1073272 against it seems to suggest that it got kinda worse instead,
but at least there is a promise of it working with a future 0.10.

So, perhaps 'apt remove gpgv-from-sq' might "resolve" your problem.
You might still want to figure out how that package got installed and
perhaps report a bug against what brought it in as my understand was
that this is not supposed to happen™, so some dependencies might be off.

(for the avoidance of doubt: I have no opinion on sq as I haven't looked
nor tried it yet, but I am not a gigantic fan of apt left not working,
even in unstable, so I might have negative prejudices now)

Bug#1061429: Info received (Bug#1061429: tomboy-ng: Copy and paste to/from tomboy-ng does not work under (at least) GNOME)

2024-06-19 Thread David Bannon
Folks, I will be shortly submitting an updated tomboy-ng to debian and
will close this bug at that time. So, better explain my position.

The 'bug' is not really fixable from my end I am afraid. Firstly, it
only shows up under Wayland and even then can be worked around with
either an environment variable or command line switch which tells the
Qt5 framework to avoid Wayland.

The default install of tomboy-ng installs a desktop file that ensure
tomboy-ng uses xcb and if used that way, the problem does not show up.
So, starting through the menu system, no problem.

If you start tomboy-ng from the command line, without either the
necessary env var set or a switch (-platform xcb) you will experience
the noted problem and several others.  I hope that at some stage,
Wayland will work somewhat better.

Further information is available on the tomboy-ng wiki, Bugs and Know
Issues page -

https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/Bugs-and-Known-Issues

Thanks for your report.

Bug#1073591: apt-get install failed with error "Could not create temporary file for ..._Packages - mkstemp (36: File name too long)"

Shouldn't that already be a problem with 'update'? Or are you talking
about 'apt install /very/very/long/path/…' (or a --with-source variant)?

> How about fix with the following patch?
[…]
> Truncate it when it is longer than 240 (leave some spaces for
> ".Packages" and "._Release" suffix)

Imagine as source:
deb http://example.org/very/very/long/path foo main
deb http://example.org/very/very/long/path bar main
that would roughly translate to e.g.:
example.org_very_very_long_path_dists_foo_main_binary-amd64_Packages
example.org_very_very_long_path_dists_foo_main_binary-i386_Packages
example.org_very_very_long_path_dists_bar_main_binary-amd64_Packages
example.org_very_very_long_path_dists_bar_main_binary-i386_Packages

So, you can't just arbitrarily cut from the end as that potentially maps
multiple URIs to the same filename (and while I am not sure if that
method is UTF-8 safe, truncating is definitively not).

The suffix part in your description is also misleading. The "suffixes"
you mention tend to be already part of the URI (and hence the filename),
so you would cut them. "Suffixes" that might be attached tend to be on
the short side like if a file is compressed (although nobody said that
a compression algorithm needs to use e.g. 'xz', it could also be
'xtremely_zmall'. The longer ones like .diff/Index (or the individual
patches) tend to use this method (and would again be subject to
truncating) if I remember right (haven't checked).

Julian entertained the idea of storing files by hash in lists/ – that
would at least limit the problem to files we don't have hashes for,
as in the (In|)Release(.gpg|) file(s) – and of course every repo we
don't have hashes for.

For these we could go with a (directory)index file that tells us about
the mapping. Such an index might even be better than our current
guessing what files could exist and checking for their existence in many
compression formats, but that would probably amount to a micro-micro
optimisation…

Anyway, drawback is of course that changing filenames means everything
that access the files directly is broken. We told everyone who wanted to
listen that they can use 'apt-get indextargets' to access filenames, but
I doubt everyone wanted to and some might even have "good" reason like
not doing shell (heck, I do sometimes. Our tests do. …)

On a sidenote, NAME_MAX seems as constant as PATH_MAX, as in on some
filesystems it is larger (or potentially smaller), but [surprisingly]
more in effect than PATH_MAX. In any case, no magic numbers please.

Oh, and congratulations! I suppose that problem exists since the
beginning (1997) and I haven't seen it being mentioned while I am around
(~15 years), so that makes this some very old and esoteric problem.

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

I am someone (TM). I confirmed with lrslib author David Avis that 1 is
"legacy mode". More detailed discussion is needed about whether
polymake/sympol can take advantage of the new mode which also finds
linearities.

I wanted to unstick a couple of entwined transitions, so I took a guess
at the appropriate change. Someone (TM) should confirm this is the right
fix before uploading to unstable. Also, it would be nice to have an
upstreamable version that builds with the older API as well.

Bug#1073197: RM: spip/4.1.9+dfsg-1+deb12u4

2024-06-14 Thread David Prévot
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: rm
Tags: bookworm
X-Debbugs-Cc: s...@packages.debian.org, t...@security.debian.org
Control: affects -1 + src:spip

The spip package currently shipped in Bookworm (4.1 branch) is not
compatible with PHP 8.2 (see #1063721 for more details). Backporting the
needed fixes requires a lot more work than just extending the version
test, and requires a new minor version (4.2 branch, as available
currently in unstable and testing).

Unless you agree with bumping the spip version in stable, I’d like to
see the package removed during an upcoming point release.

Thanks in advance.

Bug#1073173: polymake: FTBFS with lrslib 0.73

polymake 4.11 and 4.12 both fail to build because of (apparently) breaking

in lrslib 0.73 (or maybe they happened in 0.71).

Attempt #4:

Rebuild with asan

make clean
make CXXFLAGS="-g -O1 -fsanitize=address"
make check

I don't know if this is coincidence, or actually meaningful, but the
test "Testing protocol success with smtp (stdin)" finds one memory leak.

Looking at the code there is indeed a leak, but it's hard to see how it
would lead to a crash.

I can duplicate this. I made a few (unsuccessful) attempts at localize
the error.

Attempt #1

If I run /usr/lib/sendmail -bs directly (or nullmailer-smtpd, which
amounts to the same thing, I think), and give exactly the same input, it
exits cleanly when I type QUIT. I also tried your swaks command on a
host where sendmail is postfix, and I see end of the transaction

-> .
<- 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 5EC225FB72
 -> QUIT
<- 221 2.0.0 Bye
=== Connection closed with child process.

Attempt #2

swaks -t brem...@debian.org --pipe 'gdb -batch -ex run -ex bt --args
/usr/lib/sendmail -bs'

This actually runs without segfaulting, which made me think it might be
a memory error.

Attempt #3

swaks -t brem...@debian.org --pipe 'valgrind /usr/lib/sendmail -bs'

This also runs without errors, so I'm out of ideas for the moment.

I haven't looked this in detail but CLOCK_MONOTONIC timing is quite course
on hppa. I suspect if "duration for duration in durations" is longer the
division by zero error wouldn't occur.

Similar error occurs on hurd-i386.

Bug#1072570: gnome-shell: Gnome 43.9 Wayland: UI freezes in various apps, e.g. ~3mins when starting Totem

2024-06-04 Thread David Balch
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 43.9-0+deb12u2
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: da...@balch.co.uk

Dear Maintainer,

I keep on getting UI freezes in Gnome Wayland, where the UI won't respond for
between a few seconds and a few minutes.

Possibly related: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/5453

System details:

- Dell Inc. OptiPlex 7040
- Intel® Core™ i5-6500 (four-core)
- Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 530 (SKL GT2)
- 16.0 GiB RAM
- PM951 NVMe SAMSUNG 256GB SSD
- WDC WD20EZRX-19DC0B0 2TB HDD
- "High speed with ethernet" HDMI cable (presumably 1.4)

- Debian 12 (64-bit)
- Gnome 43.9
- Extensions disabled (using the master switch in _Extensions_)
- Video problem apparent when testing with 1280x720@60 1920x1080@60 and
3840x2160@30 -
although with lower resolutions, the periodic UI updates are more frequent,
  e.g. every 10s (rather than 30s when using 3840x2160).

   * What led up to the situation?

Just regular desktop use.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I've noticed clear stalls in FreeCAD, but they're more noticeable in _Videos_
(AKA _Totem_),
so I've done the most testing with _Videos_:

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Using _Files_ to open a SD H.264 .mkv video with _Videos_:

   * What was the outcome of this action?

- UI stops responding (no screen updates)
- _Videos_ Window opens
- After a couple of seconds, the video's sound plays
- Sometimes, the "_Files_ is not responding" dialog appears
- Periodically the UI updates, showing an updated video frame and new mouse
position (so mouse input is working)
- If I have pressed the Super key and there's a UI update the Activities
overview will appear (so keyboard input is working)
- After approx 2-3 minutes, the video plays normally, and the UI starts
responding.

Some videos in other formats (e.g. MPEG4 .avis) trigger the same problem, but
only for ~5 seconds.

Playing the same files with VLC works immediately, with no freezing.
Playing the same files with Totem in Gnome xorg works immediately, with no
freezing.

I know it's not the most powerful system but, once it's going, it can play the
video fullscreen with
no freezes or frame drops that I've noticed.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

UI does not freeze, respondint to input, with Totem playing the video
immediately.

What I've tried to identify the problem...

As the screen is not updating, _System Monitor_ doesn't give me any indication
of CPU spikes.
Checking the log from running _atop_ (writing to file) shows no obvious
resource shortages,
with _totem_ using 49% CPU at peak. _gnome-shell_ makes an appearance in the
last ~20 seconds with 7% and 10% CPU.

Using the CLI: `totem vid.mkv` gives the same results, with the following
messages repeated
over-and-over in the terminal: (seemingly as long as the video is playing, so I
guess it's not related):

```
(totem:20105): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 17:35:04.926: gdk_window_get_origin: assertion
'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
(totem:20105): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 17:35:04.926: gdk_window_get_origin: assertion
```

Having set up [FPS logging](https://her01n.com/2022/01/14/show-fps-in-gnome/),
_journalctl_ shows
FPS dropping below 1fps in apparent connection with the error `timeout from
dbind`.

Relevant part of _journalctl_ log when starting video:

Bug#1072562: console-setup-linux: /etc/init.d/keyboard-setup.sh needs mountkernfs, not in dependencies

2024-06-04 Thread Erwan David
Package: console-setup-linux
Version: 1.227
Severity: normal

When upgrading, I get following error message:
Setting up: console-setup-linux (1.227)
insserv: FATAL: service mountkernfs has to be enabled to use service
keyboard-setup.sh

I see that /etc/init.d/keyboard-setup.sh has
# Required-Start:mountkernfs

mountkernfs is in initscripts package, but console-setup.sh does not depends on
it.
So either this Required-Start should be removed, either the dependency should be
added.

Bug#1072321: add package for opentelemetry/otlp (and other grpc modules?)

2024-06-03 Thread David Mandelberg

Hi,

Sorry for the noise, but I learned about the axosyslog fork (which I
just filed https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1072543
for) after I filed this bug. The OTLP features that I want to use look
like they'll be in axosyslog but not syslog-ng, so I'm not sure I
actually care about an otlp package for syslog-ng. Should I close this bug?

mmhhh. I think build-dep did not show recommends/suggest in the past,
so that might be a regression in that sense already.

The reading order for the "new" column view is according to its name:
  111 477
  22 55 888
  3666 9
while the "old" wall-of-text has:
  111 22 3 4
  55 666 77
  888 9

So:

I think the alternatives group might be better of written together and
then the individual columns separated with ~4 spaces like in the
future-suggested "oldname => newname" case.

The individual columns could get quiet big given package names can be
long, but that is a problem for the column display anyhow.

Anyway, I will leave it up to Julian what to do about this as this new
stuff is his baby.

Bug#1061429: tomboy-ng: Copy and paste to/from tomboy-ng does not work under (at least) GNOME

2024-05-31 Thread David Bannon
OK, an update to where I am with this problem. For the record as much as
anything else.

Firstly, what happens-

tomboy-ng, when it copies or cuts to the clipboard, makes both a plain
text and a Rich Text Format entry in the clipboard. However, with Qt5
(and I suspect Qt6), when it notifies the system Clipboard of the change
in content, "something" goes wrong. I believe that this something is
within the Qt5/6 to Wayland space, having tracked the code (through LCL
and LCL-Qt5) to the libqt5pas library.

While I will prepare a bug report, I don't have high hopes.

For my next release of tomboy, I have a workaround. The Qt versions will
all have a "-platform xcb" added that will force use of libxcb instead
of wayland. This will also restore a few other, perhaps less important
tomboy-ng features as well. This will be version 0.40 of tomboy-ng, as
soon as I get the extensive testing necessary done.

For existing users, my suggested approach is still to do one of the
following -

* Switch (gear symbol on login screen) your desktop to xorg instead of
Wayland. Wayland is not ready yet !

* When copying from tomboy-ng, use the Plain Text Copy (from right click
menu), as it does not insert a RTF block into the clipboard, it works
fine, and plain text is usually what you want.

* Use the gtk2 version of tomboy-ng, on U2404 eg it requires no extra
dependencies.

* Use a desktop that does not use Wayland.

You can also use your older tomboy-ng with xcb -

$> tomboy-ng -platform xcb [enter]

But on some gnome systems, this produces a very ugly and confusing
double menu when clicking the system tray icon. I don't recommend that.

I will let you know when mature betas with the work around are available.

Bug#1061429: tomboy-ng: Copy and paste to/from tomboy-ng does not work under (at least) GNOME

2024-05-30 Thread David Bannon
Konrad, sorry, very sorry. This message poped up in my Spam folder, I
only just saw it today. So, earlier today I sent you, and the Debian bug
system, a message saying I cannot replicate (and can you help me
reproduce it). If you see that message, please disregard it !

(I suspect Thunderbird refuses to respond to what it considers Spam, OK
if it tells me!).

Anyway, a real answer. I am afraid this is yet another Wayland/Qt5/6
problem.

You have a couple of choices -

* If you use the gtk2 version of tomboy-ng, then it works fine. Please
consider https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/releases, the package
without either "Qt5" or "Qt6" is what you need. My test on U2404 Gnome
indicates no extra dependencies are needed.

* Switch you system back to X11 from Wayland. You may be surprised at
the number of other things that suddenly start to work !  Logout, from
the login screen, select your name, lower left there is a now gear
symbol, click and select the only non-wayland option. Log back in again.

* Change your desktop to a user friendly one, Mate, xfce, Cinnamon,
Budgie etc.

I suggest one of the above because its going to take me some time to
track down the actual cause of this problem, if I am right and its
Qt/Wayland related, even longer to get it fixed !  Maybe, we will be
lucky and its a known issue with a know fix but even that will take some
time to establish. If we are really lucky, its in my code but don't hold
your breath.

*Konrad, please answer direct to me or log an issue* at
https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/issues - I don't know whats
happening with my account at Debian but right now, but I have other
things on my plate.

Debian is a fabulous organisation with really great people but their
infrastructure is not very user friendly !

Again, sorry for the slow response.

Bug#1072187: systemd: root fs read only if /tmp is in fstab

2024-05-29 Thread David Burrows
Package: systemd
Version: 256~rc3-5
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: burrows...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

Installing this update led to my system booting with root (btrfs)
mounted as read only.

In my fstab I have the following:
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs
defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0

Commenting this out allowed the system to boot again with read/write.

In order to restore tmpfs I had to do the following (as root):
cp /usr/lib/systemd/system/tmp.mount /usr/share/systemd/tmp.mount

The is optional if you wish to have /tmp on root.

Prior to doing this it appears there is a broken symlink:
$ ls -l /etc/systemd/system/tmp.mount
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 Dec 30  2022 /etc/systemd/system/tmp.mount ->
/usr/share/systemd/tmp.mount

I'm guessing that tmp in fstab is no longer default, but I didn't put it
there and it must be left over from an older install. This is consistent with
another 3 systems of mine.

Bug#973822: ITP: dosbox-staging -- DOSBox Staging is a full x86 CPU emulator (independent of host architecture), capable of running DOS programs that require real or protected mode.

2024-05-28 Thread David James
> Please talk to us, how we can help in making DOSBox Staging packaged
> on Debian?

> Cheers,

> Patryk Obara

Dear Patryk,

I am not an expert on Debian Policy, or a Debian Developer, just a passerby who
is also interested in getting dosbox-staging into Debian.

One issue I can see with porting this package to Debian is that there are a lot
of binary blobs in contrib/resources. Debug.com, deltree.com and xcopy.exe are
the worst offenders. What are these executables? I see that they are legally
redistributable but they also need to be open source and that source needs to
be distributed with dosbox and compiled alongside it.

I'm also concerned about the CPX/CPI files in freedos-cpi and the SYS files in
freedos-keyboard. What are these files? Is there any way to distribute them as
source files?

Like I said, I am not an expert, so take this with a pinch of salt. I believe
that if dosbox-staging was packaged as it is now, it would have to go into the
contrib or non-free sections. Of course, it could be packaged without these
files present, but I don't know if dosbox will just break without them.

Regards,

David James

there is only one. It seems to me that notmuch should at least quote
the display-name part of a mailbox if it has "funny" characters in it,
and perhaps always quote it. Either way will require changing the
indexing code, since the structure is lost when writing the headers to
the database.

Bug#1071870: janus: run janus daemon as non-root?

2024-05-25 Thread David Bremner
Package: janus
Version: 1.1.2-1+b4
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

The systemd service for janus currently runs janus as root. Does it
need to? Upstream seems a bit ambiguous on that point. Both examples I
could find (in main.dox) use root, but one has the comment "Root
generally not recommended but necessary if you are using the Raspberry
Pi GPIO from Python."

As far as I can tell janus only listens on ports > 1024 by default,
but there could be some other issues I suppose.

Bug#1017361: ITA: postsrsd -- Sender Rewriting Scheme (SRS) lookup table for Postfix

2024-05-23 Thread David Kindl
Hi,

I’ve made merge request at salsa repo (
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/postsrsd/-/merge_requests/3), which should
make postsrsd 2.x version buildable.

I’ve updated version from upstream 2.0.9 that adds most of the commits
(since 2.0.8 version didn't include them).

I’m not a Debian dev and I’m definitely not sure if everything is ok, so I
would like to ask you, if you could review it and merge / comment on it, so
anybody who maintains the project now and has any knowledge about
releseases could take it forward.

Thanks

David

Dear Maintainer,

Tar package of Shotcut from home web includes the application Glaxnimate,
a vector animation sorftware that integrates well with Shotcut. Perhaps it can
be packaged with it or in another package?

Thank you.

Bug#1071645: Text: Rich option is not available in Shotcut Debian package

2024-05-22 Thread david
Package: shotcut
Version: 24.04.28+ds-1

Dear Maintainer,

Shotcut has two filters for including text in a video: Simple and Rich. For
some reason, the second option is not available in Debian. I don't know why,
but I asume that this is an error, compile omision or something else.

If I download compiled tar package from Shotcut web, the missed option is
available.

Thank you.

Bug#1059462: gcc-13: another potential user of gcc-13 on bookworm

2024-05-22 Thread David Heidelberg
Package: gcc-13
Version: 13.2.0-25
Followup-For: Bug #1059462

Dear Maintainer,

for the Mesa3D CI (where we use both gcc/clang) we would be very grateful if
there would be also a GCC 13 option, so we could keep up testing with recent
GCC versions rather than 12.

If you asking why not use a more recent version (trixie) - we stay with
the stable, so we can be sure no regressions are getting in between
rebuilds (we're a very flake-prone environment).

I tried to search for a drop-in reliable solution, but what I found was
only people asking, if there is available gcc-13 for Debian.

Thank you for your hard work maintaining GCC!

David

Bug#1071585: libsingular4m3n0t64: SONAME change w/o package rename

2024-05-21 Thread David Bremner
Package: libsingular4m3n0t64
Version: 1:4.4.0+ds-1

Justification: Policy 8.1

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

According to policy 8.1

"The run-time shared library must be placed in a package whose name
changes whenever the SONAME of the shared library changes."

The most recent upload of singular (4.4.0+ds-1) bumped the SONAME but
did not rename the shared library package or otherwise do a transition.

This broke at least polymake at run time.

A simpler fix might be just to add definitions for token and apisecret

Version: 1.1.2-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

I have janus running on the same host as the the browser running the demos.
(and the same host as serving the static files)

After some struggle, I finally diagnosed the reason none of the demos
were running was because one of "token" and "apisecret" were
referenced in the code but not defined in settings.py (indeed the
commented out definitions don't seem to be correct either).

That perhaps deserves it's own bug report, but since README.Debian
says iceServers needs to be defined it seems that there needs to be
some admin customization anyway.

The naive thing to do is to symlink to a file in /etc; perhaps there
is a smarter way to override settings.js? Otherwise it seems the only
way to use the installed version is editing files in /usr

As noted on top on the upstream project, page…

This project is no longer maintained and its repository is only kept for
archival purposes.

So, let’s raise the severity of your bug report to see this package
removed from testing.

Cheers,

Bug#1071219: apt: debListParser fails to parse arch lists with extraneous whitespace: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'

2024-05-17 Thread David Kalnischkies
(This mail is only related to the quoted sidenote question)

No, debian-policy §7.1 says "Exclamation marks may be prepended to each
of the names." and said right before that "[…] names […] separated by
whitespace".

dpkg agrees on this:
| LANG=C dpkg-checkbuilddeps -d 'foobar [! amd64]' /dev/null
| dpkg-checkbuilddeps: error: '!' is not a legal architecture in list '! amd64'

It does have interesting behaviour on another whitespace-related case
which is forbidden by policy via "The brackets enclose a non-empty list":
| LANG=C dpkg-checkbuilddeps -d 'foobar []' /dev/null
| dpkg-checkbuilddeps: warning: can't parse dependency foobar []
| dpkg-checkbuilddeps: error: cannot parse
Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Arch/Build-Depends-Indep field

vs

| LANG=C dpkg-checkbuilddeps -d 'foobar [ ]' /dev/null && echo 'OK'
| OK

(but undefined behaviour on bad input isn't too bad)

As a sidenote, as you haven't started with a '!' that string is a policy
violation due to "(It is not permitted for some names to be prepended
with exclamation marks while others aren’t.)". dpkg and APT both parse
such strings and do what might be meant by it through.

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

Bug#1071194: libuv1: FTBFS on hppa - uv_test and uv_test_a fail

2024-05-15 Thread John David Anglin
Source: libuv1
Version: 1.48.0-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

uv_test fails in test 353 - thread_mutex_recursive:

1: ok 353 - thread_mutex_recursive
1: not ok 354 - thread_priority
1: # exit code 6
1: # Output from process `thread_priority`:
1: # Assertion failed in ./test/test-thread-priority.c on line 92: `priority ==
0` (10 == 0)

uv_test_a fails in the same way.

See full log:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=libuv1=hppa=1.48.0-4=1715795091=0

Some other ports fail the same way.

Bug#1067620: add max version to python3-ruamel.yaml dependency

2024-05-15 Thread David Mandelberg

Hi,

Looks like python3-ruamel.yaml is at 0.18.6+ds-3 in testing and
unstable, and whipper is failing for me now.
https://github.com/whipper-team/whipper/issues/605#issuecomment-2073552007
mentions a fix. Would it be possible to get that patch in Debian? (I
haven't tested it myself though.)
