Bug#513881: reason for crash

2009-05-28 Thread Josh Metzler
I've been looking at konqueror-nsplugins, and I think I see why it is crashing
with gtk-qt-engine installed. Basically, nspluginviewer is a qt4 application
that loads plugins, including some that are gtk based (such as flashplugin-
nonfree). When such a gtk using plugin is loaded and gtk-qt-engine is in use,
both qt3 and qt4 are loaded. It is similar to the situation mentioned here:

http://labs.trolltech.com/forums/topic/414

Where Trolltech said it would not work with default builds of qt3 and qt4. So
I think the Conflicts is appropriate to add.

I've confirmed that the backtrace I get when I attach konqueror when it is
frozen on Amazon websites (.de or .com) shows it to be stuck in an infinite
loop that the fix for this bug catches.

It will be fixed in the next upload of kdebase.

Bug#524552: dependencies are approriate

2009-05-30 Thread Josh Metzler
severity 524552 wishlist
thanks

Of the packages you list, only kdebase Depends on konqueror-nsplugins.
konqueror and the non-kde packages only Recommend it.

kdebase is simply a metapackage designed to pull in all the binary packages in
the kdebase kde module. If you don't want konqueror-nsplugins installed, it
is fine to remove kdebase as well.

Could your konqueror-nsplugins crashing problem be due to having gtk-qt-engine
installed - http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=513881 ?

Bug#530696: kdebase-runtime really does need Oxygen icons

2009-05-31 Thread Josh Metzler
severity 530696 wishlist
tags 530696 + wontfix

The main reason the Oxygen icon set is so much bigger than many others is that
it is the only one containing a complete set of icons. It is used as a backup
in case the selected icon set is missing an icon. If you were to install one
of the smaller icon sets and remove kde-icons-oxygen, you would likely have
many missing icons.

Bug#496571: konqueror: configures javascript incorrectly for sourceforge.net domain

Alan,

I can get the content part of the site (the menus, etc) to work by adding your
policy for static.sourceforge.net (looking at the page source, this is where
they keep their javascript). The ads are a harder problem. I'm not sure
that you need them, but if you do, you need to at least ad an Accept policy
for ads.doubleclick.net. That still doesn't make them all show up -
apparently doubleclick writes some more

Actually, you can skip step 3 (no settings need be changed):

Very few, if any of the Debian Qt/KDE maintainers are also upstream
developers. So, when something like this is obviously an upstream bug in
the application and has nothing to do with the packaging, it would be great
if you could file the bugs upstream at bugs.kde.org (or Help -> Report Bug
from within the KDE application). We try to forward upstream bugs there
when we can, but it doesn't always happen.

Bug#335577: does this bug exist in sid?

2006-01-05 Thread Josh Metzler
There has been a new g++ transition and a few new upstream versions of k3b
in sid since this bug was last tested. Also, I am unsure of exactly what
it affects.

Are these correct:
The amd64 sid version of k3b works fine on a k3b system.
The stable version of i386 k3b crashes in a 32-bit chroot on an amd64
system.

Does the current sid version of i386 k3b work in a 32 bit chroot on an amd64
system? If not, is it really an RC bug, given that the native amd64
version works?

I would like to be able to mark this bug closed in the sid version, or
downgrade it to non-rc, as it (and a missing hppa build) are what is
keeping k3b from reentering testing.

Bug#339638: only one file conflicts

2005-12-20 Thread Josh Metzler
Hi Barak,

The only file that is in both libdjvulibre15 and kdelibs-data (>> 4:3.5.0)
is /usr/share/mimelnk/image/x-djvu.desktop

I think it would probably be fine to just remove the file from
libdjvulibre15, as only kde uses /usr/share/mimelnk. I am not certain
what the effect would be for users of kde 3.4, but they should be
shortlived as kde 3.5 will go into unstable as soon as the current g++
transition (including kde 3.4.3) makes it to testing.

Bug#364395: user's modifications to init script has a bug?

2006-06-06 Thread Josh Metzler
Looking at the initscript Patrick included in his message, and the one
shipped with the package, it looks he added this line:

PARAMS="-m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd"

However, according to man start-stop-daemon, -m does not take an argument.
So, my guess is that start-stop-daemon is failing do to this addition.

That doesn't necessarily explain why it is failing for others, though.

The line that causes the error is this:
EBorderStyle style() const { return border ? border->style : BHIDDEN; }

But BHIDDEN is declared in the EBorderStyle enum, and border is a pointer
to an object of class BorderStyle, which has a member style declared like
this:
EBorderStyle style : 6;

As far as I can tell, both possible return values are of type EBorderStyle,
so I don't see where the problematic conversion from int to EBorderStyle
happens.

I agree this is quite annoying (my Courier IMAP accounts are affected in
the same way). According to upstream, the old "Prefix" handling was a
hack, and with KDE 3.5, kmail now properly supports namespaces. Also
according to the upstream bug, this will not be fixed in KDE 3.5, but may
be fixed in KDE 4. I suggest voting for the bug in the KDE bug tracker.

What version of libasound2 do you have installed? Supposedly this was
caused by a regression in libasound2 1.0.11-6, so -7 was supposed to fix

After upgrading to pioneers 0.9.61-1, both games I have played have had
one of the AI players dies during its turn. This did not happen playing
the same scenario with the previous version. It is quite annoying as an
AI player cannot reconnect in the middle of a turn, so it is necessary
to start a new client, finish the turn, exit the client, and then start
another AI player.

Ok - I've cleaned up the output (I've been playing "Mini another swimming

Bug#376652: linux-image-2.6.17-1-686: high speed USB fails to work (ehci_hcd)

2006-07-03 Thread Josh Metzler
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-1-686
Version: 2.6.17-2
Severity: normal

I recently replaced my Canon S30 camera with a Canon A530. The previous
camera only supported USB 1.1, while the new one supports USB 2.0. gphoto2
failed to detect it, though, and looking in /var/log/messages when I
connect it and turn it on I see:

Jul 3 17:58:39 shuttle kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 3
Jul 3 17:58:40 shuttle kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 4
Jul 3 17:58:41 shuttle kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 6
Jul 3 17:58:42 shuttle kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 8
Jul 3 17:58:42 shuttle kernel: usb 4-3: new high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 9

(repeated with increasing address numbers until I turn it off or unplug
it.)

If I rmmod ehci_hcd, I see this:
Jul 3 22:46:55 shuttle kernel: ehci_hcd :00:10.3: remove, state 1
Jul 3 22:46:55 shuttle kernel: usb usb4: USB disconnect, address 1
Jul 3 22:46:56 shuttle kernel: ehci_hcd :00:10.3: USB bus 4
deregistered

And then plugging in the camera and turning it on works fine, but I only
get USB 1.1 transfer speeds (relevant syslog):
Jul 3 22:47:05 shuttle kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using
uhci_hcd and address 2
Jul 3 22:47:05 shuttle kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1
choice
Jul 3 22:47:07 shuttle usb.agent[18307]: libgphoto2: loaded
successfully

I originally had this problem with kernel-image-2.6.10-1-686, which
finally prompted me to upgrade, but I still have the problem with
2.6.17-1-686.

I'm not sure what information would be helpful in diagnosing the
problem. I assume it is a kernel problem and not a porblem with libusb,
hotplug, or gphoto2.

This works fine on my up-to-date sid system. I notice that you have some
old versions of packages installed (kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.4.3-3, libgcc1
and libstdc++6 4.0.3-1). Could you try updating your system (using apt-get
dist-upgrade if you use apt) and see if you can still reproduce this?

Thanks,
Josh

If I understand what you are asking for, the answer is that it does:

1) Open the Configure KMail dialog.
2) Under "Accounts" setup a Sending account for the sender.
3) Under "Identities" modify or add the sender.
4) Choose the "Advanced" tab, and select "Special transport" and choose the
Sending account you setup in step 2.

While I agree that it is a pain that the kdm kcontrol module reorganizes
kdmrc and strips all comments, I am fairly certain it is not a policy
violation. For it to be a policy violation, the maintainer scripts (i.e.
the scripts run when the package is installed) would need to do this to it.
Applications that the user runs can do whatever they want to conffiles
(otherwise you would need to file serious bugs against all editors, as I
can mess up kdmrc worse with those than I can with kdm_config).

While the comments are very helpful, the best solution might be to run
kdm_config on the default kdmrc and save it with no changes. This way any
changes made using kdm_config on the local system would fit in with the
kdmrc shipped with kdm and the diff when upgrading kdm would actually be
useful.

In the meantime, I have stopped using the kdm kcontrol module to edit kdmrc.

It appears that you have found the culprit. I mounted a data CD. I then
opened konqueror and clicked on services. I chose "Audio CD Browser",
which gave this error message in konqueror:

An error occurred while loading audiocd:/:

Could not read /.

I then unmounted the CD, and closed konqueror, but I could not eject the CD
from the desktop, or by pushing the button on the CD drive.

$ ps ax | grep audio
5001 ?S 0:00 kio_audiocd [kdeinit] kio_audiocd
audiocd /tmp/ksocket-josh/klauncherXrWrta.slave-socket
/tmp/ksocket-josh/konquerorklZRza.slave-socket

After $ kill 5001, ejecting from the desktop works.

I just checked and this bug was reported upstream a few months ago, and it

Bug#329231: Qt change brings to light bug in kst

2005-12-15 Thread Josh Metzler
reassign 329231 kst
found 329231 1.1.0-2.1
thanks

Mark,

I just spent some time investigating this bug, and here is what I found:

The two line change you propose to revert in qt is the only change in
qpixmap.cpp or qpixmap_x11.cpp from qt 3.3.4 to 3.3.5. In the changes
file I
read this:

- QPixmap
Fixed a crash when loading a cursor from an embedded image.
The color depth is now set properly when converting a QBitmap.

Even though this is in the "Mac" section of the changes file, this makes me
reluctant to revert the change.

When I look at the qt 3.3 API docs for QPixmap constructors
, I read:

The depth can be either 1 (monochrome) or the depth of the current video
mode. If depth is negative, then the hardware depth of the current video
mode will be used.

Finally, I ran kst under gdb with qt-x11-free-dbg installed and set a
breakpoint at QPixmap::init just before creating a plot. After lots of
continues with valid parameters (w or h is 0 and depth is 0, or depth is
-1 or 24 on my display), I got one with depth set to 8. This doesn't
cause a problem here because w = h = 0, so a null pixmap of depth 8 is
created. When it is resized, however, it causes a problem. With the old
qt behavior, an invalid depth was ignored when creating a null pixmap.

So, the bug is in lines 84, 124, 389 of kst/kst/kst2dplot.cpp where it
specifies a depth of 8 when creating the KstBackBuffer. It should
probably use the default of -1 and let qt create a QPixmap of the
appropriate bit depth.

Does this still happen in the 3.4.3 version?

Also, does it only crash the first time you run it? If so (running it
second and future times works), I'm going to downgrade this bug to
important.

Great - it looks like a copy and paste error. I haven't tested it, but
I think this patch should fix it:

Then shouldn't libkonq4 4:3.4.2-4 depend on libarts1c2 (>= 1.4.2-5) rather
than (>= 1.4.2-1)?

We have reproduced this and determined that it is due to ABI breakage in gcc
[1]. Rebuilding kdelibs with the current gcc fixes this, if you want to do
so locally. The release team needs to decide if rebuilding kdelibs on all
arches is the correct thing to do at this time or not, as KDE is close to
being able to transition to testing.

Thanks, stopping the KDED Media Manager fixed it, and as I rarely use
removable media anyway, this is fine for me.

I don't have fam or gamin installed (just libfam0). And, my kernel is a
debian 2.6.9. If I upgrade my kernel again someday, I'll try turning the
Media Manager back on and see if it still polls the disk.

It looks like you must have installed the security updated kdelibs-bin and
kdelibs4 from stable. Do you not have stable-security in your sources.list
anymore? apt should be pulling kdelibs4-dev 4:3.3.2-6.2 from there which
should install fine.

I don't think this is needed - koffice build-depends on libtiff4-dev.

I believe this file builds with g++-4.0. Unfortunately, koffice ICEd on arm
when built with g++-4.0 with the following error:

./koDocument.moc: In member function 'QDomDocument
KoDocument::_ZTv0_n28_NK10KoDocument11domDocumentEv() const':
./koDocument.moc:217: internal compiler error: in cp_expr_size, at
cp/cp-objcp-common.c:101

This ICE has turned up in numerous kde packages. g++-4.0 always ICEs while
compiling this file on arm, hppa, and m68k, so as soon as this ICE was seen
on arm, a new version using g++-3.4 for arm, hppa, and m68k was uploaded.

This ICE is fixed in gcc 4.1, but as far as I know has not been backported
to 4.0. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=323133 for
more details.

I know this doesn't fix the bug, but as a work around, you can drag and drop
mails between folders, so, open the folder the mail is in, scroll the
folder list until the destination folder is in view, then drag the mail
onto it.

When you recompiled pwmanager, did you compile it with g++ 4.0 or 3.4? If
you compiled it with g++ 3.3, then your problem is probably the ABI
incompatibility between 3.3 and g++ 4.0 that qt is compiled with now.

Ben,

It's been 2 weeks since you hoped to have koffice 1.4.1 out. Is there
anything that you need help with to finish getting it ready? Is there any
other way that people could help out?

Thanks,

reassign 336009 kdelibs 4:3.4.2-4

thanks

I found another crash caused by the gcc incompatibilities. KWrite crashed
when trying to save a php file using Save As. It is remarkably easy to
reproduce:

1) $ touch ~/empty.php
2) start kwrite
3) Bring up the File Open dialog
4) Make sure Automatic Previews are enabled
5) Select empty.php
crash

This is a result of a bug in g++ (#336114) that also causes bug #336009.
Turning off previews in the Open File dialog should work around this problem.
Recompiling kdelibs with the current g++ would also work around the problem,
but the debian-qt-kde packaging team is waiting to see what the release
managers want to do about the g++ bug before proceeding.

This is the standard naming convention for maildir.

> Part 2: Older kde 3.3 kmail versions worked, kde 3.4 never worked

kmail from kde 3.3 and prior e-mail defaulted to mbox storage format for local
folders. kmail from kde 3.4 now defaults to maildir. The mbox format causes
problems when other applications share the local mail folders with kmail.
Hmm... I could have the exact versions confused. Maybe the switch happened
between kde 3.2 and 3.3.

Anyway, to get the old behavior in kmail from kde 3.4, go to Settings ->
Configure KMail -> Misc -> By default, message folders on disk are: and
choose mbox.

Do you have your distributions confused? Sid = unstable and has had kde 3.4
in it for a couple months. Etch = testing and just got kde 3.4 yesterday.
Woody = stable, andhasn't had a recent kde update as far as I know.

Could you somehow have QT_NO_CAST_ASCII defined while building? Looking in
qstring.h, it should be using this operator+ on line 1050:
inline const QString operator+( const char *s1, const QString &s2 )

Your build doesn't appear to be finding that, though. Since the definition is
wrapped in a #ifndef QT_NO_CAST_ASCII, it seems like having that defined
while building could cause your build failure.

...

A quick grep -r through the kdenetwork sources shows that this appears to be
defined in all the kopete Makefile.am's and Makefile.in's, but not in any
other kdenetwork packages. So, I wonder how the buildd's built it?

It looks to me like the problem might be that kis_filter.h and
kis_filter_registry.h include each other. As far as I can tell,
kis_filter_registry.h doesn't have any reason to include kis_filter.h, so I
would try removing that include to see if it fixes things.

I ought to just look in kde cvs first - this is exactly what was committed
11 days ago with the log "don't confuse gcc 4.0.3/4.1":

This is a result of a toolchain bug #336114, and unfortunately there is not
much that the debian-qt-kde maintainers until they are told how it will be
solved. If you really need ksayit working, recompiling kdelibs with the
current g++ should work around this problem.

This works for me as my normal user - that is, when I close and reopen the
Printing Manager, the setting I changed is still changed.

My settings changes get saved in $HOME/.lpoptions like this line:
Dest LaserJet PageSize=Letter Resolution=600dpi _kde-filters
(the changes I made were PageSize -> Letter and Resolution -> 600dpi).

Does your $HOME/.lpoptions reflect the changes you make? Does it exist? Is
it writeable?

What version of CUPS do you have installed? (dpkg -l cupsys-client libcupsys2)

Thanks,

Thank you for your reports. These are both caused by a toolchain bug that
results in occasional crashes in various kde applications that use sound.
Once the toolchain has been fixed, these will get fixed, too.

After running dhclient eth0, can you check to make sure that your loopback
interface is still up? Logging into KDE either hangs or takes a really long
time during the "loading KDE services" part of the login if loopback is down.

I haven't used kiosk, so I don't know exactly how it works, but what would be

First, does this still happen with ksysv 4:3.4.2-1?

If so, does the crash handler appear? If it does, please send a backtrace to
this bug report.

If you run ksysv from konsole, do you get any error messages on the konsole?
Please send them to this bug report.

It looks to me like object_object.h is an internal header, and not part of the
public API. (At least, it includes internal.h, which none of the shipped
headers I looked at include.)

What version of Debian are you trying to upgrade from? The only libmimelib1
I can find at http://packages.debian.org/ is in oldstable. Stable has
libmimelib1a, which libmimelib1c2 properly Replaces and Conflicts with, so
it can overwrite that file in the corresponding package.

You could try removing libmimelib1 first (dpkg --remove libmimelib1), and
then libmimelib1c2 should be able to install.

Other than this, does your font look the same? My guess is that it was the
update to fontconfig, which quit using /etc/fonts/local.conf to enable
bitmapped fonts. This completely changed the font Konsole used for me.

Once I did a `dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig` and answered "yes" to the enable
bitmap fonts question, I have my normal Konsole font back. And, I don't
have any breaks in a continuous line of underscores.

Unreproducible on sid, with the same versions (including of kdelibs4 and
various xlibs packages).

Sid does, as the result of two binary NMU's on i386.

Please leave the bug e-mail address in the cc.

I have kopete and kdelibs4 both installed. The reason I need the error
messages you are getting is because everything works for me. Therefore, I
suspect there is some other package you have installed that is causing
problems, but I can't tell what it is without the error messages apt-get is
giving you.

Ok - now I need you to try

apt-get -s install kdelibs4

and send the output. This will simulate an install of kdelibs4, and should
tell us what is keeping it from being installed.

Ok - we're slowly getting there. Testing has libaspell15 0.60.2, so it
should be installable. So, now we need the output of

apt-get -s install libaspell15

(If it shows just one package that it Depends: on but is not going to be
installed, do apt-get -s install for that package, too, and send the
output.)

Ok - it looks like the problem is that kdelibs4 depends on libaspell15, and
that libaspell15 conflicts with libpspell4. It also looks like libpspell4
has been removed from Debian testing and unstable. I don't see why abiword
is being removed here, since libaspell15 should satisfy abiword-common's
dependency on a spell checker.

It looks like abiword-gtk is left over from stable.

I think what you will have to do is

apt-get install libaspell15

This will remove abiword, but you should be able to install it again with

apt-get install abiword

Once this is done, you should be able to install kopete and all of its
dependencies.

Good luck,
Josh

I had assumed that Martin Loschwitz would maintain QT4 packages, since he is
the maintainer of the QT3 packages. As far as I know, he has never
publicly stated such an intention, but it seems to me that you should at

I remember being bitten by this bug, too, when I first started using camera
over a year ago, so I was just about to create a patch, but now I notice that
the current version of kamera says:

This is a digital camera io_slave for KDE which uses gphoto2 and libgpio
to allow access to your camara's pictures with the URL camera:/

So, it seems that this has been fixed in 4:3.3.1-2, which is what you have
installed. Could you check the package you have installed and see if it has
indeed been fixed?

I don't know which patience games the "game can't be won" warning wrongly
appears for, but it was just fixed for Mod3 and Klondike for KDE 3.4:

http://cvs-digest.org/index.php?issue=jan142005#Games%3ABugfixes

If this is for a different game than one of those, filing the bug upstream
might get it fixed.

I only ever delete mail from within Kmail itself, so I haven't run into this.
My wife occasionally uses a webmail interface to our imap accounts, though,
and she does have this happen at times.

I had turned this option off, so I didn't notice that it seems to have

Does selecting the "File -> Refresh Local IMAP Cache" menu item fix things for

What does "Compact All Folders" do to IMAP folders? I'm afraid to try it.

It seems that kio_audiocd opens the cdrom access point if you have the
Services sidebar open in Konqueror. If you don't open the services sidebar,
this doesn't seem to happen.

It looks like your system is messed up. Did you try to purge some packages
but then stop the operation part way through?

These indicate that dpkg thinks you want this package purged, but that it is
currently installed. Are you sure all of its dependencies are installed
correctly?

I suggest trying:

apt-get install libkcal2

And then trying again.

hmm... `apt-cache showsrc kdelibs` lists libssl-dev in the Build-Depends: line
here, kdelibs version 4:3.3.2-1

I have know idea if this would work, but what about using libwxgtk2.5.3
rather than libwxgtk2.4? I don't know how much porting effort if any would
be involved in that, but libwxgtk2.5.3 seems to be built against libglib2.0
like scorched3d and libSDL, whereas (as the bug report says) libwxgtk2.4 is
linked against libglib1.2.

Please report wishlist bugs for the actual upstream applcations yourself.
It is quite easy to do so - there is even a "Report Bug..." menu item under
the Help menu of most KDE applications. This saves the Debian packagers
time, and also allows you to interact with the upstream developers, in case
they have questions about implementation of the features you request.

Wishlist bugs against the way an application is packaged for Debian should,
of course, be filed in the Debian bts.

Thank you,

I don't know if this idea has any merit, but what about upgrading you
xfree86? The current version in sarge is 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10, which means you
are nine Debian revisions behind. When you do apt-get -u upgrade (or
whatever package manager you use), are there other packages held back?

You didn't quote this part of my e-mail:

I was trying to say that sarge has xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10, while he only
has 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1, which puts his system 9 revisions behind what is in
sarge. I suppose he could upgrade to -12 from sid, but I assumed he would
want to keep his system with sarge.

This is expected. It is due to the gcc 4.0 transition currently taking place
in unstable. If you want to install juk in unstable, you will need to get
libtunepimp-bin and any other packages it complains about from testing. This
may not be possible because some other package you have may depend on the
transitioned libtunepimp-bin. If that is the case, your only option to use
juk would be to switch back to testing for the time being.

This is expected. KDE, along with the rest of unstable is going through a gcc
transition. KDE will be uninstallable in sid until all of KDE has been
recompiled with the new gcc. arts and kdelibs were the first parts to
undergo the transition.

If you must have kde right now, your options are:
1) Downgrade to testing. If you can't deal with transitions like this you
probably shouldn't be running unstable to start with.
2) Install kdelibs and any dependencies from testing, install the rest of kde
from unstable.
3) Install kdelibs from unstable. Compile the rest of kde yourself.
4) Wait for a few weeks until the rest of kde in unstable has been built
against gcc 4.0.

This is due to the c++ transition, as you suspected. The current experimental
version is also not compiled with the new gcc, so that wouldn't help. You
can either rebuild the packages yourself with the new gcc, or you can wait a
few weeks until kde has made it through the transition.

Right, this is actually a bug in the kdelibs version you have. Your two
options for now are:

1) downgrade kdelibs[4, -data, -bin] to the version in testing.
2) use kontact (which embeds kmail and doesn't suffer from this bug for some
reason).

I'm surprised this works at all, as you are installing a supposedly ABI
incompatible qt that is compiled with gcc 4.0 while everything that uses it
is still compiled with gcc 3.3 (which had a different c++ ABI).

Bug#325592: kdebase-data: upgrading to 4:3.4.2-1 with kdebase 4:3.3.2-1 breaks kcontrol

2005-08-29 Thread Josh Metzler
Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.4.2-1
Severity: serious

A user reported in #debian-kde that his kcontrol was empty of modules. I lead
him through downgrading kdebase-data to 4:3.3.2-1 and that fixed it. I then
reproduced by upgrading kdebase-data to 4:3.4.2-1 on a stock sid system (all
of kde still at 3.3.2). kcontrol is now empty of modules.

It seems that kdebase-data needs the same version dependency on kdebase that
kdelibs-data needed on kdelibs4.

My guess is that updating kdebase-data to 4:3.4.1-1 will fix this for you. If
that is necessary, kcontrol should probably have a versioned dependency on
kdebase-data.

What version of openoffice.org-mimelnk do you have installed? A check at
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages shows that file only in kdelibs-data.
It only listed 5 files as part of openoffice.org-mimelnk, and the one you
have a problem with was not one of them.

I believe this is due to a problem that the combination of kde 3.4.2 and qt
have in printing ps. If I am correct in this, then there is a patch already

I believe that this is the same problem that was resulting in invalid
postscript when printing from qt or kde applications. (I traced function
calls in the source, and QString::arg(double...) finally gets the string
value from QLocale::qdtoa.) This was fixed in the commit of this patch to
the qt packaging:

This should be fixed in the next upload.

Bug#327291: qt3-doc: overwrites file from qt3-designer 3:3.3.4-3 without appropriate replaces

2005-09-08 Thread Josh Metzler
Package: qt3-doc
Version: 3:3.3.4-8
Severity: normal

I have not installed transitioned qt3 packages yet, so most of them are
still at 3:3.3.4-3. I haven't been worrying about the -doc packages,
though. The most recent install failed, however:

Preparing to replace qt3-doc 3:3.3.4-7
(using .../qt3-doc_3%3a3.3.4-8_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement qt3-doc ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/qt3-doc_3%3a3.3.4-8_all.deb

trying to overwrite `/usr/share/qt3/doc/html/win-objexplor1.png', which is
also in package qt3-designer
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

# dpkg -s qt3-designer | grep Version

So, qt3-doc needs to Replace qt3-designer (at least version 3:3.3.4-3).
Note that qt3-doc 3:3.3.4-7 installs fine, so this file must have been
added in the latest version.

Bug#327231: filelight 0.6.4.1 ftbfs with gcc 4.0

2005-09-08 Thread Josh Metzler
This is a followup to bug #327231, but maybe should be a separate bug
report. I tried rebuilding filelight against the latest kdelibs using
gcc-4.0, and it fails with this error:

scanmanager.h:56: error: 'void ScanManager::startPrivate(const QString&)' is
private
scanmanager.h:81: error: within this context

I believe the problem has something to do with gcc-4.0 requiring anything
declared as a friend to be visible where it is being declared. Since this
is a private function in another class, it isn't visible in the context it
is being used. I don't know how to fix it without making it a public
function, but I'm sure there is some way.

There is also a new upstream prerelease - 1.0-beta6, but it is fairly
different, as it builds a kpart instead of just an application.

Actually, it sounds like libaspell15 doesn't export any C++ symbols, and so
didn't need to do a transition. It is likely going to undo the package

I suspect the problem here is that other diplay managers set a certain dpi
when starting X, whereas kdm by default lets X autodetect the dpi. (Which
is a great thing, I think.)

Yesterday a new kdelibs-data 4:3.4.2-1 became available that meets the
dependencies of older kdelibs4, but breaks when installed with them. So, you
need to downgrade kdelibs-data:

to get your current version of kdelibs 4, use this:
# dpkg -s kdelibs4 | grep Version

then, find the .deb for the same version of kdelibs-data and install it with
# dpkg -i kdelibs-data_$VERSION_$ARCH.deb

Yesterday a new kdelibs-data 4:3.4.2-1 became available that meets the
dependencies of older kdelibs4, but breaks when installed with them. So, you
need to downgrade kdelibs-data:

to get your current version of kdelibs 4, use this:
# dpkg -s kdelibs4 | grep Version

then, find the .deb for the same version of kdelibs-data and install it with
# dpkg -i kdelibs-data_$VERSION_$ARCH.deb

(Replacing $VERSION and $ARCH with the appropriate values, of course.)

You have just been bitten by serious bug #323747. You have upgraded
kdelibs-data to 4:3.4.2-1. Downgrade it to the precious version, restart
kde, and everything should be fine.

Josh

p.s. downgrade kdelibs* to 4:3.3.2-6.1 to get rid of your KMail segfaulting
problem.

Bug#306694: Qt4

Brian Nelson filed an ITP (bug #306694, CCed) for qt4 a while ago, and has
experimental packages up at http://people.debian.org/~pyro/experimental/ ,
but they seem to still be debs of beta2.

Any progress on the ITP now that qt4 has been released?

Bug#320515: bug confusion?

2005-08-02 Thread Josh Metzler
As far as I understand, #318979 caused xorg-x11 to FTBFS on sparc because it
included which used __user but failed to include
where __user was defined. This was apparently fixed in
linux-kernel-headers_2.6.13+0rc3-1. So, #318979 is no longer a problem.

What Adeodato is saying is that xorg-x11 will again FTBFS if it is uploaded
before *this* bug (#320515) is fixed. And, because xorg-x11 has never
successfully built on sparc, a number of packages that are waiting on it to
build (kde having the biggest dependency chain) cannot yet be uploaded for
the gcc 4.0 transition.

So, you can forget about bug #318979.

Bug#321531: pi: depends on libcln3 rather than libcln3c2

2005-08-05 Thread Josh Metzler
Package: pi
Version: 1.1.9-2
Severity: important

The most recent version of pi is uninstallable because libcln3 has
transitioned to libcln3c2 for gcc 4.0, but pi still depends on the old
package name.

The dependency on libcln3 (>= 1.1.6) should be changed to libcln3c2. The
version can be dropped because of the new name.

Bug#235704: MonitorLayout detection fails with VGA + S-Video out on Radeon 7000 / QY

Brice,

Thanks for checking. I still have the workaround (manually specifying
MonitorLayout in xorg.conf) implemented, so I don't know if xorg now
correctly detects things. I'll try to find a convinient time in the next
couple days to restart X with that line commented out to see if the bug is
fixed.

Bug#332473: we are documenting the behavior of dimap in kmail

2007-01-17 Thread Josh Metzler
tags 332473 + pending
thanks

Since upstream seems to think that the current behavior of kmail (syncing a
folder at a time) is the way it was designed to work, we have decided to
document the behavior with a warning that not using dimap as upstream
intended can result in lost mail. This will be documented in both
kmail/README.Debian, and hpoefully in a dialog that is shown upon creating
a dimap account. The release team has told us that such documentation
would make this a non-release critical issue.

Since the warning warns against using kmail in the way it is used in these
bugs to cause mail loss, the kdepim upload will close these bugs in its
changelog. That also will make tracking the RC bug in etch easier than
just downgrading the bugs. If someone wants to open another bug of non-RC
severity against kmail for not doing atomic updates of mail moves, they are
welcome to do so. Debian is unlikely to do anything about it unless
upstream does, however.

Thanks for everyone's help in tracking down the issues involved with dimap
and kmail.

Bug#388619: knetwalk: I'm still seeing this

Thanks for the backtrace. I spent a while yesterday trying to figure out
how the line of code that crashes could be reached, and I can't see a way
for it to happen. I also can't reproduce the crash no matter how hard I
try, so I can't catch it in the debugger.

Could you please send your ~/.kde/share/config/knetwalkrc to the bug report?

Thanks,
Josh

Bug#405965: konqueror: Konqueror sometimes takes minutes to load

It seems pretty strange that konqueror would take a long time to load under
the circumstances you describe.

Do any other KDE applications ever take a really long time to load, or just
konqueror?
Is the system under heavy load when konqueror is taking a long time to load?
Do you have a homepage set in konqueror?
How often / what percentage of the time does it take minutes to load?

Thanks,
Josh
