Bug#948108: Fwd: Fwd: Bug#948108: unrar corrupts filenames given as arguments
-- Forwarded Message - From: Eugene Roshal Subject: Re: Fwd: Bug#948108: unrar corrupts filenames given as arguments Date: Jan 4 2020, at 8:35 am To: Martin Meredith Hello, RAR expects source parameters in local encoding, but converts them to wchar_t with CharToWide function and uses wchar_t almost everywhere internally. RAR has a feature allowing to archive and extract names not belonging to current locale, such as extended ASCII instead of UTF-8. When RAR CharToWide function notices names which cannot be correctly converted by mbsrtowcs, it calls CharToWideMap to perform per byte conversion and sets the special flag (0xFFFE noncharacter) to tell WideToChar to apply per byte decoding WideToCharMap to such name. While it is intended for names read from and saved to archive, here it is applied to command line parameter, resulting in 0xfffe flag and per byte conversion visible on the screen and producing this mangled name. Since source "x\x92.rar" is 7 bytes length, RAR allocates 7 bytes output buffer for converted wchar_t string. CharToWideMap output is longer than that because of special flag inclusion, so RAR successfully truncates output to buffer size. While such source parameter conversion is useless, it is harmless as well. Truncation is a good sign indicating that RAR cares about buffer size and prevents buffer overflow. Mangled name in output is result of garbage in input instead of expected local encoding. So no reason to worry in my opinion. > Obviously, unrar should not mangle filenames, as filenames are > octet-strings, not locale-encoded. Normally RAR expects locale-encoded names here. Eugene

As I've already explained to Thomas, I am working on the packaging of this, however, have stumbled across a few roadblocks along the way. I'd like to remind Thomas that I actually said I'd have time to start looking at the package again from tomorrow. You are free to upload your packages to mentors, however, I'm in doubt as to whether you'll find a DD willing to sponsor them at this point in time. I'm sorry that the package hasn't been created in the timespan you expect, but as I've mentioned to you before, there are certain roadblocks along the way, and the simple fact is, we're all human, we're all fallible, we all have other things to do (I for example, am in the process of moving house AND job this week) Regards, Martin Mez Meredith signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I'm happy to maintain it in Debian, but, as I'm also upstream, I don't have time to do the upstream either. :( It would be great if somebody could get it back in the archive, right now I'm far away from home (and my key) and noticed its removal because I tried to install it in my new box. Really, asking for a package's removal with a reasonable number of popcon installs all of a sudden without filing a RFA or O WNPP bug is in no way good. This even makes me think that we should force everyone (maintainers included) to file a WNPP bug and keeping it for a reasonable amount of time before requesting a package's removal (except for cases like transitional packages, and such). Again, I apologise, I was under the misapprehension lenny was shipping KDE4, and only KDE4. Bug#503199: rar: use 64 bit binary for the amd64 port
The licencing of rar doesn't really allow for us to do this. The licencing clearly states :- 5. The RAR/WinRAR unlicensed trial version may be freely distributed, with exceptions noted below, provided the distribution package is not modified in any way. This means that we cannot redistribute the x64 version alongside the i386 version without using a separate orig.tar.gz for that version, which I'm not too sure the archive/etc would eb able to cope with having two different source packages build the same binary for different architectures. To be honest, I personally would rather leave it as it is, rather than making what I see as kludgy changes to accomodate something that is likely to be more unstable, and also, for myself, currently, untestable. I've consulted with the ftp-master team regarding whether the 2 source names one binary name is possible, and am awaiting a reply, though even if it is, I'm going to be wary doing this. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. During this, my Application manager has suggested that I request to become a Debian Maintainer in the meantime, as this allows me to practice uploads, etc. You can see my application here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-newmaint/2008/06/msg4.html I've already recieved on advocacy email [1] however, it has been requested that I look for more to add to this list. [2] If you could have a look at http://wiki.debian.org/Maintainers and then decide whether you believe that I have what it takes to become a Debian Maintainer, then I'd appreciate it. If you do feel that I am suitable, I'd also appreciate if you were to reply to my post on [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or post a new email mentioning my name and your advocacy) to advocate my becoming a Debian Maintainer. Also, if you have any strong objections to me becoming a Debian Maintainer, this is the time to make them known. This can be done, once again, by emailing [EMAIL PROTECTED] - though I hope that this won't be the case. Thanks in advance for any of you who do decide to advocate me. -- Regards, Martin Mez Meredith [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-newmaint/2008/06/msg7.html [2] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=484672 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#477957: Patch for KDENetwork
Tags: patch It seems that when libgadu was changed to have it's own package (from ekg) it started using proper version numbers (see #310276) - As before, it had been using a date as a version number, it had worked, however, this split caused the new package to be built with the correct version information, therefore, as it was a higher version than kdenetwork was expecting, this would fall over. Attached is an updated 13_improve-libgadu-detection.diff which fixes the issue (after a regeneration - 98_buildprep.diff will need to be updated here aswell) I am however, still hitting a FTBFS in a sid pbuild. I'll update this once I've fixed those. diff -Nur kdenetwork-3.5.9/kopete/protocols/configure.in.in kdenetwork-3.5.9.new/kopete/protocols/configure.in.in --- kdenetwork-3.5.9/kopete/protocols/configure.in.in 2006-10-01 18:27:00.0 +0100 +++ kdenetwork-3.5.9.new/kopete/protocols/configure.in.in 2008-05-24 03:42:40.0 +0100 @@ -39,9 +39,21 @@ int main() { -#if defined __GG_LIBGADU_HAVE_PTHREAD defined GG_LOGIN60 - int maj, min, date; - sscanf( gg_libgadu_version(), %u.%u.%u, maj,min,date ); +#if defined GG_CONFIG_HAVE_PTHREAD defined GG_LOGIN60 + int maj, min, date, items; + const char *libgadu_version = gg_libgadu_version(); + + items = sscanf( libgadu_version, %u.%u.%u, maj,min,date ); + + if ( items != 3 ) { /* version in DDMM format only */ + sscanf( libgadu_version, %u, date ); + + if ( date 20040520 ) +return 1; + else +return 0; + } + if ( maj != 1 ) { return 1; } @@ -49,7 +61,7 @@ return 1; } - if ( min == 5 || min == 6 ){ + if ( min = 5 min = 8){ return 0; } signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#478755: ITP: eZcomponents -- Framework for PHP
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Hey Francois, Derick, Suffice to say - I've enjoyed working on Xdebug with you both, and hope to continue that into the future :D (Well, My name's on the package now and I don't intend to orphan it *just* yet!) Anyway, the reason I came to look at Xdebug was simply the fact that it's something I want to be using with my PHP applications (and will be forced to use at work too I presume!), along with a couple of other things. I'm also interested in looking at other frameworks, and, after hearing Derick pimping eZcomponents so much at the PHP London Conference, I decided to have a look at it, and wrote a new script using it (http://files.sourceguru.net/lr-mirror.phps) to have a look at how well it worked. Anyway, installing it on my server was a bit of a pain in the ass! And, having gone back to the old script today to add to it and get it running on another server, I came across the fact that I needed to install eZcomponents again. This got me thinking. It'd be nice if eZcomponents was packaged for debian so that I could get it installed easily. I had a quick word with Derick, who said that there shouldn't be any issues (apart from possibly fonts - which he's checking on) that would disallow this from happening. He also came up with a nice thought:- Derick the coolest way would be if it could be done per component actually Which got me thinking - this wouldn't be hard to do at all. This could be built from one source package, and have packages for each component with the correct dependencies. So the base classes would go into say, ezcomponents-base, and then a component like, for example, WorkflowDatabaseTieIn would have Depends: ezcomponents-base, ezcomponents-database, ezcomponents-workflow I think this would actually be a neat way to package this, allowing the end-user to only install those bits of ezcomponents that they need. Francois, if you're willing, I'd like to work with you on this aswell as Xdebug, and, after all, I do need a sponsor ;) This email also acts as my Intent to Package, and has been submitted to the BTS as such. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#377348: [RFS] php5-xdebug
Having a quick look at this, my first thoughts are that I hate cdbs ;) Second of all, there seems to be a couple of weird things in there - for example ./configure --enable-xdebug --with-php-config=/usr/bin/php-config$* That line is simply going to make them use php-config. While the B-D's mean that this will use php-config5, because php4 isn't installed, but it if were, then it would be up to alternatives as to which version to use. I also noticed configure_for_php%: Which I assume is just a typo, and should be configure_for_php5 (as this is what is used as a dependency for install/php5-xdebug) Also, why ucf is listed as a dep for the source I don't know, as that should be bought in by the dependencies of phpapi-`php-config5 --phpapi` (php5-cli, php5-cgi, libapache2-mod-php5 all depend on it) Also, I'd like to see that upon installation, xdebug is enabled, instead of having to jump through hoops to get it working (yes, removing it without a purge is a pain, but the postrm can sort that out anyway!) also, the xdebug.ini should be using zend_extension instead of whatever it's using. Looking at the ubuntu package, I'm not too happy with a few of the things in that, reading through it just doesn't seem clear to me (some of the code in the rules is completely confusing - and they replace the config.guess and config.sub for the client, even though it isn't built (I guess to get rid of the lintian error - an override would have done) I'm going to do a little work on the package, and conglomerate stuff from all three packages into one package combining everything nicely. And then I'll have to uupdate anyway (Thanks Derick! :P) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#377348: [RFS] php5-xdebug
To be honest, I didn't actually realise until after I' d made that package that it actually existed in ubuntu! I actually put in a backports request for it to go back to gutsy aswell, but I think the package in ubuntu is based off of Marcelo's package. I will point out however, that it seems my upload has superceded Marcelo's on mentors.debian.net, so I can't see what there is. *quickly installs dget and downloads the ubuntu package* The ubuntu package was originally created by XSBC-Original-Maintainer: Mark A. Hershberger [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... not too sure whether that's Marcelo, but it doesn't look like it. I'm guessing that Marcelo is subscribed to this bug report, so I'm hoping that he'll get this email. Otherwise, Francois, could you forward this on to him and see what he thinks about co-maintaining? Ah, I just noticed Mark in the bug. well, anyway... I'd be happy to work with Marcelo/Mark, and hopefully, when my NM goes through, I'll be able to be the sponsor/uploader too ! Derick did briefly mention that there was some sort of licencing issue, which is why my control lists it as non-free/devel for the section. Looking over the upload on mentors though, it doesn't seem to be the latest upload. I did clean up the rules a little, and also played with a coupe of things. Derick, you say -02 you're unhappy with, would you rather I use something else, or just remove that flag altogether. Also, the other changes (to the description) - I'mm happy to do. On another note, seeing as the xdebugclient comes in with that source download, are there any thoughts as to whether it would be worth building an xdebug-client package aswell from the source (Derick, you need to update your config.guess and config.sub there! hehe!) Side note: Derick, do you mind being subscribed to the bug regarding packaging this in debian if you're not already? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
