Bastian,

You’re more than welcome to take over this immediately if you wish :) I didn’t
realise your work was NMUs, I thought you were a co-maintainer.

You’re more than welcome to list as a co-maintainer, or as maintainer and move
me to co-maintainer, or even just adopt the package and remove me entirely!

Hello,
RAR expects source parameters in local encoding, but converts
them to wchar_t with CharToWide function and uses wchar_t almost
everywhere internally.

RAR has a feature allowing to archive and extract names not belonging
to current locale, such as extended ASCII instead of UTF-8.

When RAR CharToWide function notices names which cannot be correctly
converted by mbsrtowcs, it calls CharToWideMap to perform per byte
conversion and sets the special flag (0xFFFE noncharacter) to tell
WideToChar to apply per byte decoding WideToCharMap to such name.

While it is intended for names read from and saved to archive,
here it is applied to command line parameter, resulting in 0xfffe flag
and per byte conversion visible on the screen and producing this
mangled name.

Since source "x\x92.rar" is 7 bytes length, RAR allocates 7 bytes
output buffer for converted wchar_t string. CharToWideMap output
is longer than that because of special flag inclusion,
so RAR successfully truncates output to buffer size.

While such source parameter conversion is useless, it is harmless as
well. Truncation is a good sign indicating that RAR cares about buffer
size and prevents buffer overflow. Mangled name in output is result of
garbage in input instead of expected local encoding.

So no reason to worry in my opinion.

Normally RAR expects locale-encoded names here.

A brief look over the debdiff looks like there;'s nothing completely insane in
there.

How about an NMU + Adding yourself to the Uploaders. Then we can work in the
next few weeks (sorry, literally started a new Job on Monday - so I'm super
busy at the moment) and get a shared git repo or similar setup.
Sound good?

Seems I didn't hit reply all. This is the problem with waking up at 5am to
spot this email. Copy/pasting what I originally sent, and then trying to
get back to sleep. :-)

Well, it seems my email has been a bit weird of late, as I've not seen the
ITS until now!

Replying from my phone, so I'll send a properly signed email later on.

I'm not MIA, just have been busy, and not receiving proper notifications
for my Debian email, apparently...

All my packages have always been LowNMU - and help has always been
welcome. You're more than welcome to take this package of you wish,
although my preference would have been for us to work together

Bug#820381: rar crashes.

2017-02-11 Thread Martin Meredith
A very good question. I remember building this, I remember signing
and uploading this... I think I even remember sitting around waiting
for the emails for it.

When I get back to my dev machine on Monday, I'll try and remember to
have a look, though I think I recently deleted the files.

If so, I'll just do a new build.

Is there any progress on either of your packages? If not, I'm happy

Otherwise, I intend to hijack the ITP.

Bug#660141: Update Regarding php-mongo

2012-08-06 Thread Martin Meredith
Hi Laszlo - I can't find you in db.debian.org - and from the way
you've been talking about this package - I'm presuming you won't
actually have rights to upload.

Can you please push your package onto mentors.debian.net - it'll help
me with doing some basic packaging checks, rather than having to do
them all manually.

That done - I'll have a look over the package tomorrow.

Any questions - feel free to email me back or harass me on IRC (Mez)

Bug#631098: PHP Garbage Collection

2011-06-20 Thread Martin Meredith

Package: php5
Version: 5.3.6-12

I've had a problem where somehow, I've managed to end up with
approximately 1,000,000 session files on my server.

Due to the large amount of files, the current crontab to clear them was
unable to deal with it (xargs would fail to take in the HUGE list of files).

It seems that rather than using xargs (even with the limit), that using
the -exec option of find might be a little bit more sane?

09,39 * * * * root [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] [ -d
/var/lib/php5 ] find /var/lib/php5/ -type f -cmin
+$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) -exec rm {} \;;

Is what I currently have in my cron script to work around this issue.

Bug#563437: Uninstallable: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/php/doc', which is also in package php-pear

2010-01-02 Thread Martin Meredith
reassign 563437 php-pear
thanks

I've just looked into this, and the reason that it's failing is that
/usr/share/php/doc is a symlink to /usr/share/doc/php-pear/PEAR

/usr/share/doc/php-pear is a symlink to /usr/share/doc/php5-common, which
doesn't include a PEAR directory.

If the symlinks were correct, this would install correctly (as the package is
built to use the PEAR documentation directory (as gleaned from pear config-get
doc_dir))

Reassigning this to the correct package.

You've just pointed out a major flaw that would mean I won't sponsor the

Please fix these, and then I will look into reviewing your package.

I've suggested that I adopt this, however, the current maintainer seems to want

  Hi there!

I've spoken to Derick, and he's of the same thoughts of me, that the
documentation shouldn't be shipped with the package, as this is not how it's
intended. The documentation is designed to be viewed on the website.

 Hi,
one possible problem with relying on the website is that it is not versioned,
so the documentation may become inexact. If the documentation isn't included
in the package, one solution would be to host doc for each current version
(unless they don't differ in features) on debian.org.

Note that you can tag wontfix and close, but not both at the same time (at
least, in theory). Tagging wontfix indicates that a valid issue will not be
 addressed.

wontfix + closed means that it is a bug that has been resolved by deciding not
to fix it. It's generally only suitable for wishlist kind of things though.

Hi there.

Although it's a relatively uncommon occurence, sometimes Debian packages have
configuration files that are not in /etc/

I'd like for etckeeper to be able to keep a track of these files. I'd guess the
best way to do this would be to have something along the lines of

1) find these files
   - This can be done with the command
  cat /var/lib/dpkg/*.conffiles | egrep -v '^/etc/'
2) Link these into /etc/ somewhere
3) Act as normal

Though I'm sure that you can think of different ways to do it.

Really, asking for a package's removal with a reasonable number of

 in no way good.

This even makes me think that we should force everyone (maintainers

time before requesting a package's removal (except for cases like
 transitional packages, and such).

Again, I apologise, I was under the misapprehension lenny was shipping KDE4,

Bug#503199: rar: use 64 bit binary for the amd64 port

2008-10-23 Thread Martin Meredith
The licencing of rar doesn't really allow for us to do this.

The licencing clearly states :-

   5. The RAR/WinRAR unlicensed trial version may be freely distributed,
with exceptions noted below, provided the distribution package is
  not modified in any way.

This means that we cannot redistribute the x64 version alongside the
i386 version without using a separate orig.tar.gz for that version,
which I'm not too sure the archive/etc would eb able to cope with having
two different source packages build the same binary for different
architectures.

To be honest, I personally would rather leave it as it is, rather than
making what I see as kludgy changes to accomodate something that is
likely to be more unstable, and also, for myself, currently, untestable.

I've consulted with the ftp-master team regarding whether the 2 source
names one binary name is possible, and am awaiting a reply, though even
if it is, I'm going to be wary doing this.

NACK; why are you using dpatch? When you make changes to a package,
please stick with whatever packaging methods they're currently
using (be it dpatch, cdbs, etc) unless you're taking over the
package. Lintian is correct to complain.

There's nothing proper about using dpatch. If you introduce changes
in an NMU, and there isn't already a patch system, then you shouldn't
 add one.

Might just have been the way that I've been taught to package. I've
always been taught never to touch the original source unless it's for
DFSG reasons.

Attached is a debdiff without the dpatch stuff.

Bug#492008: katapult: Katapult crashes (segfault) on some config error

2008-07-23 Thread Martin Meredith
Hi there, this is a known issue with Katapult, which we haven't been
able to track down as of yet.

[Displays/Name=Glass Display]

Looks wrong though...

Wiping the config file from the machine fixes this normally, but
obviously, this isn't something we want to do.

Actually, looking at my config, this seems to be the case for me too...
which is a little weird.

I've tracked down this issue. I'll write a patch and get it uploaded
ASAP

Bug#484672: Debian Maintainer Advocacy

2008-06-06 Thread Martin Meredith
Hi there!

First of all, you're recieving this email as I have worked with you in
Ubuntu or Debian, or you have sponsored a package for me in either and
you are aware (or may be aware) of my packaging skills

I am currently undergoing the Debian New Maintainer process. During
this, my Application manager has suggested that I request to become a
Debian Maintainer in the meantime, as this allows me to practice
uploads, etc.

You can see my application here:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-newmaint/2008/06/msg4.html

I've already recieved on advocacy email [1] however, it has been
requested that I look for more to add to this list. [2]

If you could have a look at http://wiki.debian.org/Maintainers and then
decide whether you believe that I have what it takes to become a Debian
Maintainer, then I'd appreciate it.

If you do feel that I am suitable, I'd also appreciate if you were to
reply to my post on [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or post a new
email mentioning my name and your advocacy) to advocate my becoming a
Debian Maintainer.

Also, if you have any strong objections to me becoming a Debian
Maintainer, this is the time to make them known. This can be done, once
again, by emailing [EMAIL PROTECTED] - though I hope that
this won't be the case.

Thanks in advance for any of you who do decide to advocate me.

Bug#477957: Patch for KDENetwork

2008-05-24 Thread Martin Meredith
Tags: patch

It seems that when libgadu was changed to have it's own package (from
ekg) it started using proper version numbers (see #310276) - As before,
it had been using a date as a version number, it had worked, however,
this split caused the new package to be built with the correct version
information, therefore, as it was a higher version than kdenetwork was
expecting, this would fall over.

Attached is an updated 13_improve-libgadu-detection.diff which fixes
the issue (after a regeneration - 98_buildprep.diff will need to be
updated here aswell)

I am however, still hitting a FTBFS in a sid pbuild.

I'll update this once I've fixed those.

Bug#478755: ITP: eZcomponents -- Framework for PHP

2008-04-30 Thread Martin Meredith
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Hey Francois, Derick,

Suffice to say - I've enjoyed working on Xdebug with you both, and hope
to continue that into the future :D (Well, My name's on the package now
and I don't intend to orphan it *just* yet!)

Anyway, the reason I came to look at Xdebug was simply the fact that
it's something I want to be using with my PHP applications (and will be
forced to use at work too I presume!), along with a couple of other
things.

I'm also interested in looking at other frameworks, and, after hearing
Derick pimping eZcomponents so much at the PHP London Conference, I
decided to have a look at it, and wrote a new script using it
(http://files.sourceguru.net/lr-mirror.phps) to have a look at how well
it worked.

Anyway, installing it on my server was a bit of a pain in the ass! And,
having gone back to the old script today to add to it and get it running
on another server, I came across the fact that I needed to install
eZcomponents again.

This got me thinking. It'd be nice if eZcomponents was packaged for
debian so that I could get it installed easily.

I had a quick word with Derick, who said that there shouldn't be any
issues (apart from possibly fonts - which he's checking on) that would
disallow this from happening.

He also came up with a nice thought:-

Derick the coolest way would be if it could be done per component
actually

Which got me thinking - this wouldn't be hard to do at all. This could
be built from one source package, and have packages for each component
with the correct dependencies. So the base classes would go into say,
ezcomponents-base, and then a component like, for example,
WorkflowDatabaseTieIn would have

Depends: ezcomponents-base, ezcomponents-database, ezcomponents-workflow

I think this would actually be a neat way to package this, allowing the
end-user to only install those bits of ezcomponents that they need.

Francois, if you're willing, I'd like to work with you on this aswell as
Xdebug, and, after all, I do need a sponsor ;)

This email also acts as my Intent to Package, and has been submitted to
the BTS as such.

Bug#377348: [RFS] php5-xdebug

2008-04-09 Thread Martin Meredith
Having a quick look at this, my first thoughts are that I hate cdbs ;)

Second of all, there seems to be a couple of weird things in there - for
example

./configure --enable-xdebug --with-php-config=/usr/bin/php-config$*

That line is simply going to make them use php-config. While the B-D's
mean that this will use php-config5, because php4 isn't installed, but
it if were, then it would be up to alternatives as to which version to
use.

I also noticed

configure_for_php%:

Which I assume is just a typo, and should be configure_for_php5 (as this
is what is used as a dependency for install/php5-xdebug)

Also, why ucf is listed as a dep for the source I don't know, as that
should be bought in by the dependencies of phpapi-`php-config5 --phpapi`
(php5-cli, php5-cgi, libapache2-mod-php5 all depend on it)

Also, I'd like to see that upon installation, xdebug is enabled, instead
of having to jump through hoops to get it working (yes, removing it
without a purge is a pain, but the postrm can sort that out anyway!)

also, the xdebug.ini should be using zend_extension instead of whatever
it's using.

Looking at the ubuntu package, I'm not too happy with a few of the
things in that, reading through it just doesn't seem clear to me (some
of the code in the rules is completely confusing - and they replace the
config.guess and config.sub for the client, even though it isn't built
(I guess to get rid of the lintian error - an override would have done)

I'm going to do a little work on the package, and conglomerate stuff
from all three packages into one package combining everything nicely.

And then I'll have to uupdate anyway (Thanks Derick! :P)

Bug#377348: [RFS] php5-xdebug

2008-04-08 Thread Martin Meredith
To be honest, I didn't actually realise until after I'
d made that package that it actually existed in ubuntu!

I actually put in a backports request for it to go back to gutsy aswell,
but I think the package in ubuntu is based off of Marcelo's package.

I will point out however, that it seems my upload has superceded
Marcelo's on mentors.debian.net, so I can't see what there is.

*quickly installs dget and downloads the ubuntu package*

The ubuntu package was originally created by XSBC-Original-Maintainer:
Mark A. Hershberger [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... not too sure
whether that's Marcelo, but it doesn't look like it.

I'm guessing that Marcelo is subscribed to this bug report, so I'm
hoping that he'll get this email. Otherwise, Francois, could you forward
this on to him and see what he thinks about co-maintaining?

Ah, I just noticed Mark in the bug. well, anyway... I'd be happy to work
with Marcelo/Mark, and hopefully, when my NM goes through, I'll be able
to be the sponsor/uploader too !

Derick did briefly mention that there was some sort of licencing issue,
which is why my control lists it as non-free/devel for the section.

Looking over the upload on mentors though, it doesn't seem to be the
latest upload. I did clean up the rules a little, and also played with
a coupe of things.

Derick, you say -02 you're unhappy with, would you rather I use
something else, or just remove that flag altogether.

Also, the other changes (to the description) - I'mm happy to do.

On another note, seeing as the xdebugclient comes in with that source
download, are there any thoughts as to whether it would be worth
building an xdebug-client package aswell from the source (Derick, you
need to update your config.guess and config.sub there! hehe!)

Side note: Derick, do you mind being subscribed to the bug regarding
packaging this in debian if you're not already?

Bug#459167: katapult: package content changes when built with dash as /bin/sh

2008-01-04 Thread Martin Meredith
Seems that dash doesn't like the line

rm -f $(CURDIR)/debian/katapult/usr/lib/libkatapult*.{so,la}

I've changed this to two seperate commands in the next upload

thanks

I'm closing this and tagging as wontfix. It's an issue in the source
code that we can't seem to track down, and can only kludge in horrid
hacks that won't work.

This system is being rewritten in the next release, so will be fixed
with that.

Bug#444967: katapult: crashes on settings and doesn't work (popup/launch)

2007-12-19 Thread Martin Meredith
We have patches in the development branch for this... However, a release
is not due any time soon.

I had the same problem, and as You siad: Removing
 ~/.kde/share/config/katapultrc fixes that.

But of course old configuration files should crash katapult - it should be
 handled nicely.
