Sadly, that is not enough – it’s not possibble to open a conversation
with gajim thus, and after trying it, it’s also not possible to exit
gajim either.

I tried tracking it down the same way, but it looks to me as if the
backtraces are incomplete. Sorry (but maybe you’ve got an idea?).

Do you have the second traceback? It's hard for me to uninstall dbus as
many packages depend on it ...

Thanks for the additional information, I think we now have everything
needed to make a well-informed decision!

I'm absolutely not sure what is the best thing to do now:

  1. unblock the embedded python-gnupg copy to the current copy of
Wheezy's python-gnupg + small change that supposedly improves
things: take the risk to see a regression in gajim due to changes
 brought by the library update;

Have you seen the diff? I don't see what security issue it could cause.
But without it, Gajim can traceback, that is a fact.

  2. revert the embedded python-gnupg copy update: take the risk to
make it harder to support serious bugs or security issues that may
be found in python-gnupg in the future.

I'm slightly lending towards #1, but not too satisfied with it,
so I'll let the Release Team make their own opinion on this matter
(not that I could do differently, anyway :)

Note that, even if this unblock is granted, gajim remains RC-buggy in
Wheezy and unstable due to the #693048 security issue.

As all other Gajim versions. Bug is fixed upstream, but not enough
tested to be included for the moment. So do what you want, remove Gajim
from Debian because of this security issue if you want.

Just note that it's now 3 monthes that debian testing users cannot use
video in Gajim because 0.15.1 is still blocked.

Have you seen the diff?

I haven't: it's quite big, and most big changes have some potential
for regression during freeze time. I'm not saying the probability is
high, I'm just stating that a risk does exist, so that the release
team can take it into account when they make a decision.

I'm talking about gnupg diff that I attached in my previous mail. it's a
5 line diff or something like that.

But without it, Gajim can traceback, that is a fact.

I'm sorry I missed this important piece of information.

Where was I supposed to learn about it? (Not a rhetorical question,
I've genuinely searched, and failed to find it in the unblock
request -related set of messages. I guess it might be #670243 that is
related to GnuPG support, but it's unclear to me if that one was fixed
by the modifications made to the embedded pythong-gnupg copy, or by
the upgrade thereof.)

I would not have modified it if that didn't fix a bug in the library. It
does not handle all messages that GPG can raise. So I added some that
Gajim users already encoutered. See https://trac.gajim.org/ticket/7151
I'm sorry about that. Please note the fix to this specific bug was
ACK'd by a Release Team member mid-October, so it could have been
pretty smoothly fixed in Wheezy, had it not been bundled with a bunch
of other changes that were less easy to decide upon, by requiring
additional information or other changes from your side. I'm sorry the
Release Team is overwhelmed with unblock requests, so their delays in
replying to this bug report were quite long sometimes: every
back'n'forth round-trip then takes time, so the best way to ensure
such an unblock request is treated quickly is to only include changes
that are evidently freeze-compliant, and document them very well at
unblock request time, when this not done in debian/changelog yet. I
hope it may help next time! :) Cheers,

I don't blame release team nor anyone else. I know they do their best.
I don't understand if you ask me to fix only bugs reported in Gajim or
all known bugs in Gajim. I did the second by making this 0.15.1 package,
thinking it was the better way to do. It's a minor release, so only a
bugfix release. I also asked release team if that was a good idea BEFORE
doing the package and got a positive reply.

I don't think there will be a next time. After this package will be
accepted, I'll find another maintainer. But I finish what I started
before, and that's another problem.

Great!

However, given this next release is highly unlikely to be in Wheezy,
it looks like Wheezy will ship with a Gajim that *has* a python-gnupg
embedded code copy -- and perhaps Squeeze has too?

Regardless of the future (much welcome!) upstream fixes, information
about the existing code duplication needs to be put on the dedicated
list, so that the security team can react appropriately in case
a security issue is discovered in the duplicated library.

(Adding secure-testing-team into the loop, keeping the unblock bug in
the Cc list too, as I doubt the package should be unblocked without
having a clear view of what's happening with the embedded
python-gnupg.)

Ok then we wait for an answer from secure-testing-team? I don't think I
need to do somthing, do I?

note that the version of GnuPG in Gajim also handles some more errors
like KEYEXPIRED and SIGEXPIRED.

- why does this drop the 0.15-1.1 changelog entry?

hmm I didn't do this upload so it was not in my debian files. I've
re-added it.

- what does the src/common/check_X509.py change do? string comparison
and version comparison are kind of different things...

Gajim 0.15 badly checks openssl version. see
https://trac.gajim.org/ticket/7124

- how is the change to _StreamCB supposed to work? there doesn't seem
to be an 'obj' variable in that function

It does not work. Oauth2 is not in 0.15 branch, so not usefull. But ok,
I've added a patch to remove that.

- the src/common/gnupg.py changes are big and don't really look bugfix
only. What's the potential for regression there?

gnupg.py is an external library that is not yet packaged, it's why it is
in Gajim sources (it's in Gajim repos too). I've take the new release
from there. It's in Gajim trunk since May, 18, and don't cause any trouble.
Of course I've read the changes, and I don't see anything that could
cause a problem.

Overall I think I'm ok with the farstream/farsight change but I'm not so
sure about the rest. At least without some more explanations why
they're necessary.

Thanks for the comments, I hope I explained what you wanted to know,
else don't hesitate to ask.

Bug#678104: gajim: Crash occasionally when closing the last window

Not sure if this belong in gajim or one of its dependencies so maybe
it'll need a reassign.

The problem I have is that on my two computers gajim tends to crash
(SIGSEGV) when closing the last window opened. The bug is not fully
reproducible but it happens several times a day for me. Hence within
2 days I can say with quite certainty if a patch is working or not.

Here is the traceback I got with gdb:

This is not related to Debian package, so it's be better if you could
use Gajim's BTS for those things.

This problem is reported upstream and is discussed (without success for
the moment) here:

Hi,

If I use Ctrl+H or Ctrl+I in my roster, it will open history/show
information of the contact. However, the new roster filter will also
filter for 'h' or 'i'. Shortcuts like Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+O or Ctrl+N work like
expected without activating the filter.

It's now fixed upstream. But please don't use Debian BTS to report bugs

It should be something in these messages:

Attached is what i get before i see the disconnected icon. Sorry to be

Hi,

that.

I get these and gnome vfs related logs before the gajim presence stuff.

we don't listen for gnome vfs messages, it should be a network manager

In this report, the package maintainer is not responsible, it's Gajim

But as I'm also Gajim developper, I can reply:

You modified your config file by hand, right? Gajim (0.14.4) itself
should not set empty lines when you save your subscriptio nrequest

No, I didn't modify the config file by hand. Why should I do that?
On Sunday one of my colleagues asked for Jabber authorization. I did the

Right, I can reproduce. Fix is in the future 0.15 release.

You mean receiving a gpg-encrypted message at the exact same time you go

It's just impossible to reproduce, and in the traceback I don't see it's
related to GPG.

No I mean send you a gpg-encrypted message after you become offline. What is
strange is that I can disconnect/reconnect as many times as I want and I will
always have the backtrace after connecting. Note that I can talk normally
after I close the backtrace.

Please let me know if you want me to test some things.

Hi,

I cannot reproduce. Your traceback is about chatstate, not receiving a

Anyway I did a fix that should fix your traceback. Will be in 0.14.4

I think one the file transfer proxies you use does strange things.

icon doesn't have a transparent background while others have it.

A screenshot is attached to show the result.

I found some traces of similar bugs in 2006 but they're supposed to be
fixed so I guess it's not the same thing.

I'm not sure it's python related since wicd tray icon is displayed
correctly.

Regards,

It's fixed upstream in 0.14, so it will be in unstable when squeeze
freeze will be over.

Hello,

I think gajim should honnor the 'print_status_in_chats' config option
even when in groupchat window (for the record I use this patch to
remove incessant (de)connection message from IRC channels).

Use print_status_in_muc option for that

I don't think so. I activated the option this morning (putting 'none'
for print_status_in_muc) but I still receive a lot of leaving/join
message for IRC mucs as you can see on the attached image.

But I suppose that my patch should probably use print_status_in_muc.

I don't think this discussion has its place on debian lists, it has
nothing to do with debian packaging. Gajim lists or MUC room is a better
place for that.

Tip: Is your room bookmarked? In this case each bookmarked room has it's
own configuration for that. See actions-Join group chat - manage

Hi,

Starting with gajim 0.13.4, ssl support requires python-openssl= 0.9 for
OpenSSL.SSL.OP_NO_TICKET to be defined. See bug #5689[1].
Testing and sid have 0.13.4 and python-openssl 0.10, so most users won't have
any problem regarding this bug. However, anyone pulling gajim 0.13.4 from
stable won't be able to use ssl.

[1] http://trac.gajim.org/ticket/5689

Stable has 0.11.4, and stable won't stay arround for a long time. As I
don't think it's a RC bug, I don't think I can put a new packet in
squeeze, and unstable will soon have a 0.14 package.

Gajim now uses different colors for incoming and outgoing

In preferences window, style tab, you can configure this color.

Recently, I had to use a custom hostname to connect to my jabber service
temporarily. I carried out the following steps:

1. Goto Edit - Accounts to bring up the accounts dialog
2. Select the account, click the Connection tab
3. Tick the 'Use custom hostname/port' checkbox
4. Edit the hostname, but left the existing port value alone (the
default value is 5222, which was correct)
5. Click close

After still not being able to connect to the jabber service, we resorted
to carrying out a packet capture, and found that gajim was trying to
connect to port 0 on the server.

Changing the port value to 5223 caused it to try and connect to port
5223 as expected.

Changing the port value back to 5222 caused it to try and connect to
port 5222.

It would seem that the default values in the hostname and port input
boxes in the accounts dialog don't have any effect until they are
changed. The value in these boxes should be what is actually being used,
even if not explicitly edited by the user.

Are you sure you use 0.12.3? You restarted Gajim after you upgraded to

importing PyGTK failed: Not importing directory
'/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cairo': missing __init__.py

The directory mentioned above is empty. I tried doing an `apt-get install
--reinstall python-cairo`, but that did not
add any files there. Then I just deleted this empty directory. After that,
gajim no longer fails to start, i.e. it now
works normally.

I don't have this file either, you have a problem is your python / pygtk
installation, it should look in /usr/share/pyshared/cairo/__init__.py

I close this bug because it's not in Gajim, but in your pygtk installation

I still think there is something strange: The panel is able to detect
the right border of my screen as show in the attached screenshot: when
panel is configured in normal width mode, aligned on the right, and
there not too much elements in it, it is correctly aligned on the right.
So why isn't it able to detect the right border if there are more
elements or in full width mode?

No, I understand that. That's why I wondered if there was some easy way
to debug or trace gajim.

Does it happen often? Do you always do the same thing before it freezes?

Often enough to be irritating. |-)

It's random, sometimes it happens several times a day.
I think it happens when I close a chat window (using escape).

gajim -v -l gajim=DEBUG is the most verbose mode of Gajim, but strace or
gdb (http://trac.gajim.org/wiki/ReportingSegfault) is lower level.

Bug#527275: gajim hangs when playing sound

2009-06-04 Thread Yann Leboulanger

The problem is in your soudn installation I think. Gajim indeed never check if

someone connects.

aplay should not block, and I don't think we can do something about that.

Well, yes, I understand that. What I mean is that I now don't think
the sound is the real reason for gajim to hang. It's probably only the
symptom of the problem.

What happens is that Gajim, the whole application, freezes and
I have to kill the process and restart it. This happens as I can
remember when I close a chat window.
So I noticed that aplay was still there (as a zombie) and thought
it was the sound that made Gajim hang.

Now, since the same problem happens with artsplay, I'm not so sure
anymore, stracing it shows that Gajim just sits there waiting for
input with all it's windows completely frozen, they don't even repaint
when they have been hidden below another application.

So, do you know any easy way to turn on debugging in Gajim?

I've already tried that, no difference.

Actually, I'm wondering if the sound problem is just a symptom, not

Using artsplay just made it hang in a different way, without any zombie.

This happens as I can recall only when I close a chat window.
The window is cleared from all text, leaving a grey background

you must have a problem with your sound installation. Gajim just call

It doesn't happen with other driver, so I think it's a driver issue.
Twinview is *not* xinerama, and xinerama is gone anyway. The future is
randr 1.2 stuff, which panel supports more or less correctly (especially
with static config). It *doesnt* support twinview because nobody really
know what is twinview. And yes, xfce4-panel (and xfwm4) changed between
4.4 and 4.6, especially to support randr 1.2.

So yes, there might be a bug, but unless the developer can reproduce it
it'll be very hard to fix. You may not have time to find how to
configure randr 1.2, but don't expect other people to have time to fix
proprietary bugs either, especially without any kind of information.

That said, if you have a dual-output card it should be fairly easy to
use RandR 1.2 (and there are plenty of documentation on the net). You
don't have to retune all your config, just disabling all that twinview
stuff, switch to vesa driver (or maybe remove xorg.conf completely and
let xorg chose the best driver, like nv or vesa), add a Virtual line so
there is enough memory allocated, and when in Xfce, use xrandr to
configure the dual screen output. You will need something like:

 xrandr --output $left --left-of $right

restart xfce4-panel just to be sure, and report back.

 Any news on this?

 Cheers,

NO I haven't tested using another driver, and won't have time before

Is it possible to try with the vesa driver (not sure about randr stuff

It'd be nice if you could try that, I'll check with upstream, but don't

I have an horizontal panel on top of only one screen. Position is set

The problem is that the panel seems to be wider than the screen, but
you only see a part of it. So you don't see the right part of the
panel, even if there are applications, notification area...

This makes panel un-usable as it hides half of things it contains.

If I set panel position to Span Monitors, I see the end of the panel
correctly. But I don't want the panel on both screens.

I'm using randr 1.2 stuff here to have multiple monitor, and I don't the
the problem, so that might be related to twinview.

 1) It has this habit of eating tons of CPU time, even while completely

I never saw that. Does CPU goes 100% at a precise moment? (receiving
something, sending something?)

 2) On one of my machines, it will periodically pop up a box saying I'm
already connected with the resource, and ask for a new
resource even though I'm NOT connected anywhere else with that
 resource.

 3) On another machine, it will frequently log me out and back on from
the server for no apparent reason and with no indication to the UI on
 that machine.

Theymay be related. debug output is needed here. could you run gajim -v

Bug#512256: clicking new message symbol in notification area does not open corresponding chat window any more

When a new message arrives from a contact whose message window is not
open already, the status symbol in the notification area changes to
the new message symbol. Clicking on that used to open the
corresponding chat window in gajim 0.11, but that seems broken now,
clicking it just activates the main window.

It's not a bug, but a way to be consistant with roster: double click or
middle click to open a pending event.

Bug#511867: gajim: “Self signed certificate in certificate chain” error

2009-01-14 Thread Yann Leboulanger
Yves-Alexis Perez wrote:
 Package: gajim

 Hi,

I just upgraded gajim, and it now tries to verify my SSL certificate, which
is nice. I have python-openssl installed.

My server certificate is signed by an own CA, for which I have a CA file in
/etc/ssl/certs. Using openssl s_client I can connect to my jabber server on
port 5223 and have it verify it, and it works (if I pass -CAfile to openssl
 s_client).

It seems that gajim (or python-openssl, or openssl, I don't really know)
doesn't use my CA file, and thus doesn't see that this “self signed
 certificate” is my trusted CA.

And btw, I can't display the given certificate in gajim, to be sure it's
the correct one (there's no reason the certificate used on port 5223/ssl
should be different than the one on 5222/starttls, but just in case…)

 Cheers,

Gajim don't check system certificate, because it's not the same in all
distributions. A ticket has been opened about that in Gajim's tracker:
http://trac.gajim.org/ticket/4633

Well, ok, but against what does it check certificates? And how can I set
the CA? I mean, I *don't* trust other CA when connecting, I only want to
trust my own one, in fact. (Meaning, we're not really in the “web”
modele but in the “private”, “intranet” one, I guess).

 What should I do then?

Cheers and thanks for the quick answer.

Gajim has a fixed certificate list: /usr/share/gajim/data/other/cacerts.pem

you can also add your cert in ~/.gajim/cacerts.pem

Bug#500523: gajim: after resuming from suspend, tray icon show messages but doesn't allow to do anything

 Hi,

I usually leave gajim running when I suspend my computer. Later, when
resuming it, it seems that gajim reconnects and receives messages: the
tray icon is show messages. But left-clicking the tray icon doesn't show
the roster, and when right-clicking, the context menu opens, but none of
 the actions work.

This is very annoying, and results in the received messages to be lost
(because it's not really feasible to go through each contact's log to
find if he sent me something), hence the bug severity.

My .xsession-errors shows the following traceback:

 and this one:

This is reproducible, but not during every suspend/resume cycle (probably
 ~50%
 of the time for me).

 Hi,

I think this is fixed in latest svn. Could you test a daily snapshot
from ftp.gajim.org/debian? I don't have suspend on my machine, so I
 cannot test for suspend.

Indeed, it seems to work in SVN. However, I now get a Resource
conflict telling me I'm already connected. That might be because I'm
suspending by calling pm-suspend directly, so gajim might not get a
chance to close the connection first.

I think you should use gajim-remote to disconnect correctly before going
to suspend in a before-suspend script.

But messages sent while I'm suspended are no longer lost.

Could you backport the fix to lenny?

hmmm no. There are really too much things that changed since 0.11.4 (1.5
years of developpement). Lenny will live with this bug.

 Hi,
while using and openpgp-enabled account the You will be connected to %s
without OpenPGP. dialog appears on every reconnection if a
 passphrase has not been provided.

The dialog of course needs only to be acknowledged, wouldn't a
notification a better fit for the purpose?

 thanks,

I think it's important to know that you don't announce GPG support when
connecting. You configured GPG, because you do want to use it. If you
are not connected with it, it's important.

 Dear DDs,

I wanted to connect to my amessage.info account whose password contained
a ß. Gajim was not able to connect and showed an error message about
invalid credentials. Changing the password to not contain umlauts/ß
characters fixed the issue for me.

Is this a problem in Gajim or with the amessage.info server?

 Thanks,

 Paul

I just tested and it seems to work for me. But I couldn't log on
amessage.info. I can't reproduce this bug, with or without saving the
password, with or without gnome keyring.
Could you try on another server to confirm it's a amessage.info server
problem?

Bug#475847: is trayicon is not supported, gajim shouldn't try trayicon mode

Ok thanks for the explication.

But I think there is a bug in gajim for optional module.
If a module was enable because it was present, then it is removed.
Gajim should detect that and disable the option.
For the trayicon it detect that is not present, but still use the
trayicon path of not showing the main windows.

That way in my case, gajim should have display a windows.

I agree with your problem and solution, in this specific case the cause of the
bug is the python2.5 transition. gajim somehow (correctly from his POV?) assumes
that his trayicon module is there, which is the case. But yes it should fallback
even if his version of trayicon could not be loaded for whatever reason.

filippo

It's now fixed in svn, I'll do a patch for the package and build a new
one ASAP.

 Hi,
it seems like that gajim is polling dbus every second searching for
 banshee:

 method call sender=:1.48 - dest=org.freedesktop.DBus
 path=/org/freedesktop/dbus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus;
 member=NameHasOwner string org.gnome.Banshee

Looking at music_track_listener.py line 68 it isn't clear why it is
doing this instead of treating banshee as other music players.

 thanks,

Banshee only supports polling ...
In svn Polling is started only if banshee player is installed. I can
backport this patch to debian if needed.

Bug#470276: gajim: Shortcut Alt+Tab doesn't work as expected

Hi!

Imagine you have some tabs open with different chats and maybe one or
two group chats. You can change to a tab with new messages by pressing
Alt+Tab as you certainly know. ;-)
Well, when someone is writing to you you can change to that tab very
fast the same way. The problem is that you can't change to other tabs
while someone is writing to you. Usually you won't care about it but you
can't change to a group chat using Alt+Tab even if someone wrote
anything there, except someone wrote something especially to you
(e.g. by calling your nick). And this is not usefull somehow, you see?

This is not a bug in general but I expected the shortcut to work a bit
different. Maybe you can have a look at it.

Thanks,
Hauke

Hello,

This behaviour is configurable in Advanced Configuration Editor, option
name is ctrl_tab_go_to_next_composing.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

It continues to be same till gajim is running. But, if I change my
status to offline and back to available, the CPU consumption reduces
drastically and comes down to less than 10% or so, but memory
consumption is still the same ~8%.

Could you run Gajim in a console and tell me if you see an error printed?
It may be easier if you come in our room [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
