2015-08-08 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Control: tag -1 patch pending

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for libktoblzcheck (versioned as 1.48-2.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

Regards.

Bug#794946: ITP: libdist-zilla-role-bootstrap-perl -- Shared logic for Dist::Zilla-related bootstrap things

2015-08-08 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: wnpp
Owner: Axel Beckert a...@debian.org
Severity: wishlist
Control: block 794942 by -1

* Package name: libdist-zilla-role-bootstrap-perl
  Version : 1.001002
  Upstream Author : Kent Fredric kentfred...@gmail.com
* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Dist-Zilla-Role-Bootstrap
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Shared logic for Dist::Zilla-related bootstrap things

Dist::Zilla::Role::Bootstrap is a Dist::Zilla role that aims to be
consumed by plugins that want to perform some very early bootstrap
operation that may affect the loading environment of successive
plugins, especially with regards to plugins that may wish to build
with themselves, either by consuming the source tree itself, or by
consuming a previous built iteration.

The package is a dependency of libdist-zilla-plugin-bootstrap-lib-perl
(see https://bugs.debian.org/794942) and will be maintained under the
umbrella of the Debian Perl Group.

I did indeed miss this, and I very much appreciate the prior warning
you gave, the issuance of bug report notifications to the various
maintainers, and the huge scale of the problem faced with a major
transition like this. However I do feel that it was a shame that the
transition went ahead regardless as to at least one very popular
application - libreoffice - not being ready, resulting in the
unfortunate situation we have now. (I would of course not be so
unreasonable to expect transitions to wait for every last package to be
ready, but the really popular ones and their deps...).

Bug#794947: manpages-dev: printf(3) example: possible integer overflow

2015-08-08 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: manpages-dev
Version: 3.74-1

The example in the printf(3) manpages looks like this (with boring parts
omitted):

int n;
/* ... */
   n = vsnprintf(p, size, fmt, ap);
   /* ... */
   if (n  0) {
   /* ... */
   return NULL;
   }
   /* ... */
   size = n + 1;

But vsnprintf could return INT_MAX, which would then cause n + 1 to
overflow.

(AFAICS, the glibc vsnprintf implementation never returns INT_MAX, but
it could in principle.)

I'd suggest changing n  0 to n  0 || n == INT_MAX.

Bug#794948: cyphesis-cpp: prompting due to modified conffiles which were not modified by the user: /etc/cyphesis/cyphesis.vconf

2015-08-08 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: cyphesis-cpp
Version: 0.6.0-3
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed the piuparts
upgrade test because dpkg detected a conffile as being modified and then
prompted the user for an action. As there is no user input, this fails.
But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt
shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile
at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded...

This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3,
which says [These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary
questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good
citizens.

https://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring
out how to do this properly.

In https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and
followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with
severity serious.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up postgresql (9.4+169) ...
  Setting up cyphesis-cpp (0.6.0-3+b1) ...

  Configuration file '/etc/cyphesis/cyphesis.vconf'

   == Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
 What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
  Y or I  : install the package maintainer's version
  N or O  : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
   The default action is to keep your current version.
  *** cyphesis.vconf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? dpkg: error processing package

  Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-19) ...
  Processing triggers for systemd (222-2) ...
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   cyphesis-cpp

This is a followup to #767818 and can be observed on upgrades from
squeeze (the last release that shipped cyphesis-cpp) to wheezy to
jessie (always keeping cyphesis-cpp from squeeze installed) and
finally to stretch (which again has a new version of cyphesis-cpp.

You probably need to undo the editing performed by the predecessor
packages in the preinst.

cheers,

Andreas

I hear you in theory, but in practice I know the upstream author very
well, and have a reasonable idea of how this is used (in Bayesian stats
around R in the large sense).

This isn't really a library to link against -- all statistical analysis uses
jags the binary.

But I look into it. The debian/rules is (apart from some overrides) just

%:
dh $@

so I should get by with some simple-enough debian/*.files magic.

Bug#794915: revised source package uploaded to mentors

2015-08-08 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
Hi Ghislain,

the package looks good!

There still are some copyright issues: e.g.

licensecheck  cmake/FindTBB.cmake
cmake/FindTBB.cmake: MIT/X11 (BSD like)

seems that you missed one :)

cheers (sorry for noticing only now)

G.

Bug#792703: zsh: please improve newuser.zshrc.recommended and add new prompt_debian_setup

2015-08-08 Thread Carsten Hey
A new prompt_debian_setup that no longer tries to mimic adam1 is
attached.

I think #setopt no_beep and #stty -ixon should also be added to
newuser.zshrc.recommended, but maybe we should concentrate on the
prompt for now.
# debian prompt theme

prompt_debian_help () {
cat 'EOF'
This prompt color-scheme-able via zstyle. If the variabale TERM is set to
'dumb', colors are disabled, though. You can invoke the prompt thus:

  prompt debian
  TERM=dumb prompt debian

To configure the prompt's colors, this command can be used (don't forget to
run 'prompt debian' again to activate the changes):

  zstyle ':prompt:debian:*' STYLE COLOR

You need to replace STYLE with 'dircolor', 'usercolor', 'usercolor-root',
'exitcolor' or 'exitcolor-root'. Valid values for COLOR include the numbers
from 0 to 7, 'black', 'red', 'green', 'yellow', 'blue', 'magenta', 'cyan' and
'white'.

Displaying version control information via vcs_info and displaying the name of
a Debian chroot is supported by this prompt, but only the latter is enabled by
default. To enable vcs_info with the user-context 'prompt_debian', run:

  add-zsh-hook precmd prompt_debian_precmd_vcsinfo

To disable vcs_info even if the vcs_info command is run, and to enable
it again, zstyle can be used as shown in the two lines below.
The other two lines enable checks for uncommited changes.

  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' enable NONE
  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' enable ALL
  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' check-for-staged-changes true
  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' check-for-changes true

To add additional information to the prompt, e.g., the history event number or
the number of background jobs and the shell level, this commands can be used.
The content of the 'nvcsformats' style is only shown if vcs_info is used, but
no version control system repository was found.

  PROMPT='%B!%!%b '$PROMPT
  zstyle ':vcs_info:*' nvcsformats '%B%F{2}%(1j.j%j .)%(2L.L%L .)%b%f'

Bug#789757: ejabberd: General update after the debconf review process

2015-08-08 Thread Philipp Huebner
Hi again,

I just realized/remembered that I switched ejabberd's admin interface to
https for the next upload, but the template and all the translation
still have the http url in them.

Can I simply replace http with https in the template and all the
translations? Or would that somehow invalidate them? If so, what else is
necessary?

Best wishes,

No, I've got that wrong, the tests don't demand these packages.

Thus, looks good everything, as soon as the blocks are resolved the
package is going to be uploaded to Mentors.

Cheers,

Bug#756138: Bug#792703: zsh: please improve newuser.zshrc.recommended and add new prompt_debian_setup

2015-08-08 Thread Frank Terbeck
Hi Carsten,

I looked through the suggestions from your last mail; comments inline.

Carsten Hey wrote:

The latter might better be replaced by zsh's no_flow_control option.

 This prompt color-scheme-able via zstyle. If the variabale TERM is set to
 'dumb', colors are disabled, though. You can invoke the prompt thus:

   prompt debian
   TERM=dumb prompt debian

You could also check something like a blacklist style, that could be a
list of term names (or better yet, patterns). That way you could
blacklist $TERMs like emacs for colours as well.

 To configure the prompt's colors, this command can be used (don't forget to
 run 'prompt debian' again to activate the changes):

   zstyle ':prompt:debian:*' STYLE COLOR

Good! I like it when people refrain from polluting the global parameter
name space just for prompt colours. This is good. :-)

 Displaying version control information via vcs_info and displaying the name of
 a Debian chroot is supported by this prompt, but only the latter is enabled by

I think that looks reasonable.

To set defaults you can do:

  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern dircolor dircolor || dircolor=4

And again, maybe rather use names instead of numbers:

  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern dircolor dircolor || dircolor=blue

You also don't need to initialise to the empty string in the local
above.

 PROMPT=%B%{%0(#:%F{$exitcolor_root}:%F{$exitcolor})%}$p_exit
 PROMPT+=%{%F{$dircolor}%}\${debian_chroot:+(}

 PROMPT+=$p_space_or_newline$p_vcsinfo$p_reset$p_2nd_newline%B%#%b

Assembling a non-trivial prompt like always looks unreadable. I've seen
worse than this.

 ##TODO uncomment if setopt transientrprompt works in a prompt function
 ## Ease copying multi-line commands with the mouse.
 ## http://www.zsh.org/mla/workers/2015/msg01767.html
 #local rps2color=$dircolor
 #setopt transient_rprompt

I don't understand this. transientrprompt can — and IMO should be —
set outside a prompt setup.

 #PS2='${${options[singlelinezle]#off}:+%_ }'

I'd do this in an if ...; then...; fi to improve readability.

 #RPS2=${RPS2:-%B%{%F{$rps2color}%}%^%f%b}

[...]
 # Autoload and configure vcs_info:
 # The format strings 'formats' and 'actionformats' should end with a space
 # to fit into the prompt's design.
 # Colors: 1:=red, 2:=green, 3:=yellow, 4:=blue, 5:=magenta, 6:=cyan, ...

Again, you can use the colour names instead of the numbers instead.

[...]

The contents of the .thisfiledoesnotexist file seems very similar to
the one of the prompt_debian_setup file. Attached by mistake?

So arduino program is working fine for non-Leonardo system.

FreeBSD Ports uses cmake instead of autoconf (which Debian uses) and
therefore ILMBASE_HAVE_CONTROL_REGISTER_SUPPORT is #defined.

I do not know whether
a) the autoconf test for ILMBASE_HAVE_CONTROL_REGISTER_SUPPORT is
broken and should actually succeed and kfreebsd (and any other Debian
architecture or
b) the cmake setup is broken and incorrecty enables
ILMBASE_HAVE_CONTROL_REGISTER_SUPPORT and causes broken code.

Bug#794955: gperf: Embedded code copy with missing copyright

2015-08-08 Thread Maria Valentina Marin
Source: gperf
Version: 3.0.4-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 4.5
User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: timestamps

Hi,

Your packages contains an embedded code copy of texi2html which is
copyright Lionel Cons and others and is licensed under the GPL and
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. This information is
missing from debian/copyright of gperf and is thus a violation of policy
§4.5.

I found this bug while working on the reproducible builds project [1] to
make texi2html produce reproducible output.

From that point of view there are two options:

 1. remove the embedded code copy [2] and build-depend on texi2html
(this would also make policy §4.13 happy). I would prefer this
solution and would supply you with a patch if you want. Your package
would then automatically become reproducible.

 2. keep the embedded code copy and amend your debian/copyright. In this
case I would open another bug so that your embedded copy of
texi2html is patched to produce reproducible output.

Kind regards,
akira

 There's a race window between unpacking base.tgz and the mkdir call when

 Owning the buildd directory would let them tamper with the build
 process.

 Alternatively, the attacker could exploit #789401 to plant tmp/buildd
 directly in base.tgz.

 I think I'm going to solve both this and #789401 by making /tmp/buildd
 configurable

 Right. Moving the build directory outside /tmp will should fix this bug.

done, by parametring the directory with BUILDDIR and changing the default to
/build

I forsee angry users, since /tmp/buildd is probably used in a lot of local
script (hooks). Also the example hooks need updating, not to speak about
docs  → work.

 I don't see how changing it can fix #789401, though.

It would improve the situation, as a malicious local user can not plant the
build dir any more (yes, it could still temper with /tmp, but with the actual
build dir, which is somewhere else)

 and defaulting to another place, maybe the one used by sbuild (/buildd
 iirc)

 It's /build (with a single d).

cool, thanks.

Bug#794892: autogen: please make the build reproducible (cpu, locale, timestamps)

2015-08-08 Thread Bruce Korb

There is another tiny little problem with your patch:
It presumes that the man page templates are used exclusively by autogen.
That is very, very incorrect. There are quite a few projects that use
AutoOpts. If you want to dig into the template and figure out how to
*PORTABLY* derive a date command invocation that references the time stamp
on a source file, please feel free. All the world is not GNU.
-d @${TIME_IN_SECONDS} is not portable.

http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009604599/utilities/date.html

I would recommend some post-processing step of some sort if you want
to have man pages be stamped with a date different from the current date.
And you missed a few:

$ grep -E 'shell.*date' *.tpl
agman-cmd.tpl: (shell date '+%d %b %Y') package-text section-name) ))
agman-file.tpl: (shell date '+%d %b %Y') package-text section-name) ))
agmdoc-cmd.tpl: .Dd  (shell date '+%B %e %Y' | sed 's/ */ /g')
agmdoc-file.tpl: .Dd  (shell date '+%B %e %Y' | sed 's/ */ /g')
def2pot.tpl:# Copyright (C) [= (shell date +%Y) =][=
def2pot.tpl:POT-Creation-Date: [= (shell date +\%F %R%z\) =]\n

So in theory, producing a byte-for-byte repeatable build sounds nice,
but first there are practical problems that must be resolved.

Bug#794954: difference between usbids listing of two months

2015-08-08 Thread shirish शिरीष
Hi all,

This is the earlier one which was from the 'oldish' one :-

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b39a Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 8087:07dc Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 138a:0017 Validity Sensors, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 12d1:1f01 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0781:5567 SanDisk Corp. Cruzer Blade
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

From this, would draw your attention to two usbids :-

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 138a:0017 Validity Sensors, Inc
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 12d1:1f01 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

From the new one after updating usbids (couple of months difference) :-

$ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b39a Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 8087:07dc Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 138a:0017 Validity Sensors, Inc. Fingerprint Reader
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 192f:0916 Avago Technologies, Pte.
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 12d1:14db Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E353/E3131
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Let's see both of those again :-

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 138a:0017 Validity Sensors, Inc. Fingerprint Reader
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 12d1:14db Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E353/E3131

If I had known the usb-mobile device, it would have been so much easier.

$ ls -lh --full-time /var/lib/usbutils/

Bug#794957: transmission: Upgrading transmission made it the default program for bittorrent files

2015-08-08 Thread Anders Andersson
Source: transmission
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I recently performed an upgrade of my debian testing system, as usual.
Later when I downloaded a bittorrent seed file (foobar.torrent), I
expected it to open in Deluge, which has been my default bittorrent
program since I installed this system. Imagine my surprise when
Transmission opened up instead!

I have never previously used Transmission on this computer, and have not
performed any changes to any files related to the default applications.

Since there has been no changes to the package 'deluge' or to the
meta-package 'gnome' (which depends on transmission) for a long time, my guess
is that the simple act of upgrading the package transmission caused it to
override whatever was the previous default application.

I'll be happy to change align to the policy once it's clear, because i also

Bug#792703: zsh: please improve newuser.zshrc.recommended and add new prompt_debian_setup

2015-08-08 Thread Carsten Hey
[ dropping #756138 again from CC, people reading
  it should now know that there is a related bug ]

Hi Frank,

thanks a lot for you insightful feedback :)

I noticed, that I should add a note how to disable displaying the name
of a debian chroot (i.e., set it to or unset it).

* Frank Terbeck [2015-08-08 17:28 +0200]:
 Carsten Hey wrote:

 The latter might better be replaced by zsh's no_flow_control option.

Indeed, setopt no_flow_control is much better.

 [...]
  This prompt color-scheme-able via zstyle. If the variabale TERM is set to
  'dumb', colors are disabled, though. You can invoke the prompt thus:

prompt debian
TERM=dumb prompt debian

 You could also check something like a blacklist style, that could be a
 list of term names (or better yet, patterns). That way you could
 blacklist $TERMs like emacs for colours as well.

Looks like emacs used to set TERM to dumb (see #143361), but this might
have changed. Anyway, the blacklist is a great idea, the default
blacklist would currently contain emacs and dumb.

zstyle ':prompt:debian:*' STYLE COLOR

Hmm, even if * matches :, this could be changed to ':prompt:debian:*:*'
(one * for the host name and one for the user name).

PROMPT='%B!%!%b '$PROMPT
zstyle ':vcs_info:*' nvcsformats '%B%F{2}%(1j.j%j .)%(2L.L%L .)%b%f'

 Maybe use a name rather than a number here: %F{green}

At least for the examples shown in the help text %F{green} is much more
readable.

  local pwd_max_length=60
  local pwd_max_subdirs=5
  local wrap_at_char='-25'

 Maybe make these configurable via styles?

It was configurable, but I assumed that nobody would care about being
able to configure this and removed it again - looks like I was wrong.
The additional file I attached contains a part of what is required to
make it configurable via styles, just in case I'll need it in the
future. I'll also add local enable_exit_status=1 again in order to
make this configurable too.

  # color config:
  local dircolor= usercolor= usercolor_root= exitcolor=
  exitcolor_root=
  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern dircolor   dircolor
  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern usercolor  usercolor
  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern usercolor-root usercolor_root
  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern exitcolor  exitcolor
  zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern exitcolor-root exitcolor_root
  : ${dircolor:=4} ${usercolor:=2} ${usercolor_root:=1}
  : ${exitcolor:=1} ${exitcolor_root:=2}

 To set defaults you can do:

   zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern dircolor dircolor || dircolor=4

 And again, maybe rather use names instead of numbers:

   zstyle -s $zstyle_pattern dircolor dircolor || dircolor=blue

 You also don't need to initialise to the empty string in the local
 above.

zstyle -s ... || dircolor=... looks a lot cleaner than what I had.

I'm undecided, but easily convincible, whether color names or numbers
should be used in a string that users won't see (unless they do print -r
-- $PROMPT and try to understand the output), given that the numbers
are shorter.

  ##TODO uncomment if setopt transientrprompt works in a prompt
  function
  ## Ease copying multi-line commands with the mouse.
  ## http://www.zsh.org/mla/workers/2015/msg01767.html
  #local rps2color=$dircolor
  #setopt transient_rprompt

 I don't understand this. transientrprompt can — and IMO should be —
 set outside a prompt setup.

Without transient_rprompt, the painless multiline copying won't work and
therefore there would be no reason to set PS2 and RPS2 accordingly.
I assume one has to read the linked thread to fully understand what the
purpose of this four lines is (or try it interactively).

Alternative approaches are:
 * setting PS2 and RPS2 and expecting the user to set transient_rprompt
   (which is fine for a default .zshrc, but might not be the best idea
   if used in a hand-written .zshrc)
 * providing a function users are able to call if they want this
   behaviour - this sounds like a good approach if it is done
   independent from a specific prompt

  #PS2='${${options[singlelinezle]#off}:+%_ }'

 I'd do this in an if ...; then...; fi to improve readability.

An if condition would not catch cases when singlelinezle is set after
the prompt's setup function is run (we don't build the prompt in
a precmd) - OTOH this is not an option many people would set.

 The contents of the .thisfiledoesnotexist file seems very similar to
 the one of the prompt_debian_setup file. Attached by mistake?

It contains some additional lines (as mentioned above) I expected to
need in some years, if at all - but apparently I need them in this year.

Bug#794958: tomcat7: wrong usage of catalina.home instead catalina.base in catalina.properties variable common.loader

2015-08-08 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Package: tomcat7
Version: 7.0.63-1~ubuntu14.04.1~c42.ppa1
Severity: important

(The version mentioned above is a no change backport to ubuntu trusty.)

[The bugreport is also valid against tomcat8 ! Please apply the same fix here.]

Please fix the following line in catalina.properties:

WRONG:
common.loader=${catalina.base}/lib,${catalina.base}/lib/*.jar,${catalina.home}/lib,${catalina.home}/lib/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/classes,${catalina.home}/common/*.jar

CORRECT:
common.loader=${catalina.base}/common/classes,${catalina.base}/common/*.jar,${catalina.home}/lib,${catalina.home}/lib/*.jar

Following problems with the wrong statement:
1. Odering is wrong: catalina.base should overrule catalina.home here (see
class loader howto below).
2. catalina.home is expanded normally to /usr/share/tomcat7, but there is no
common directory - it is below
/var/lib/tomcat7 (as expanded by catalina.base).
3. ${catalina.base}/lib,${catalina.base}/lib/*.jar are pointing to non existing
directories. I recommend to skip this part.

For reference see
https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/class-loader-howto.html
 The locations searched by this class loader are defined by the common.loader
 property in
 $CATALINA_BASE/conf/catalina.properties.
 The default setting will search the following locations in the order they are
 listed:

unpacked classes and resources in $CATALINA_BASE/lib
JAR files in $CATALINA_BASE/lib
unpacked classes and resources in $CATALINA_HOME/lib
JAR files in $CATALINA_HOME/lib

History of this bug is that in bug #691865 a wrong fix was introduced.
Instead catalina.base (as specified in the bug report) catalina.home was used
for the common.loader.

Bug#794959: kwin-x11: kwin crashes on startup

2015-08-08 Thread Rostislav Pehlivanov
Package: kwin-x11
Version: 4:5.3.2-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Kwin crashes on startup. This happens in every possible use:
1. Using kwin_x11 --replace to replace a window manager of another
desktop environment causes it to crash. The details tab just says it segfaults.

2. Starting plasma 5 normally through sddm or another display manager will
simply
make Plamsa 5 freeze after the loading bar is full or once the wallpaper is
loaded up.
There is no way to get a crash log here since no prompts show up nor does the
sddm
service print an error to the journal nor does Kwin print to any log. The only
way I've confirmed that this is a kwin bug is:

3. Running startkde (by first stopping the sddm/display manager, running 'sudo
Xorg` in
a VT terminal, switching to another terminal and running 'DISPLAY=:0 starkde').
This
causes Plamsa 5 to load up normally and display the bar which once again
freezes once full.
Switching back to the VT with startkde, KCrash reports that kwin_x11 has crashed
with the reason being segfault.

I've also confirmed that this is not related in any way to the current Plasma 5
crashes on
Intel using the 'sna' accerelation method. Switching to 'uxa' has no effect on
the kwin
crashes.
The crashes/startup freezes also occur for a completely new, just created user
account, so it's
not a config problem.
When sddm is restarted and the normal startup procedure is attempted, switching
back to a VT
once the freeze happens prints that libQt5Sql has segfaulted, though this does
not always happen
so I don't think this is related.

Okay, one constant is in case the computation fails. Not a bound.

The other is just a minimum -- a human interface sort of thing.
It may well be that 1 second is sufficient on a given platform,
but I would not expect a human being to become impatient before
5 seconds have elapsed. The value needs to indicate that at that
amount of time there is highly likely some problem, and it ought
not be so long that folks get impatient. I do not expect impatience

and though I've added LC_ALL=C to some of my date invocations,

Bug#789757: ejabberd: General update after the debconf review process

2015-08-08 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Philipp Huebner (debala...@debian.org):
 Hi again,

 I just realized/remembered that I switched ejabberd's admin interface to
 https for the next upload, but the template and all the translation
 still have the http url in them.

 Can I simply replace http with https in the template and all the
 translations? Or would that somehow invalidate them? If so, what else is
 necessary?

You can search/replace s/http/https certainly. I'd recommend to do
this first on PO files, then on the templates files. The most
important thing is that you should NOT make the change to templates
files and run debconf-updatepo as all translations would have strings
marked as fuzzy.

Another recommendation is to open the PO files with a tool that is
UTF8-clean. Nowadayd, this is nearly never a problem, but who knows?
Of course, you may also want to use sed on these files.

The same problem also applies for the iceweasel-38 branch, which is currently

ppc.

Bug#793465: libuser/1:0.60~dfsg-1.2 fix for CVE-2015-3245 and CVE-2015-3246

2015-08-08 Thread GCS
Hi Ghe, Tzafrir,

Do you still maintain libuser for Debian? Your last upload was more
than a year ago[1] and currently you have two security bugs
reported[2]. I'm going to NMU and fix these with the attached changes
if you don't respond in some days.

I agree. This is a bug in upstart, sorry.
I haven't even tried to check whether this is still the issue, but whatever

Hi Gianfranco,
thanks for your summary.

Although I'm not involved in maintaining virtualbox, still a few
thoughts:

* What would that mean for Jessie updates?
* Isn't that basically the same problem we have with MySQL,
  or even Iceweasel?

So I think the question is either drop, or work with upstream releases,
from which I'd personally prefer.

Even popcon isn't too bad:
https://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=virtualbox

Leaving users with the possibility to use upstream packages is also not
very attractive.

Just me few cents :)

 Thanks for reporting this issue. Technically, I wouldn't call it
 preseeding, as this use of seeding was probably lost when I implemented
 proper (debconf) preseeding.

 True, but this is how it is documented and how a lot of packages are
 using it :)
 ( and that's how I noticed it :) )

Indeed thanks for reporting. I implemented the proper solution for this,
but made an extremely stupid copy/paste error, (see dpkg/common line 233
and down) for the dbc_dbname lines:
 # Turns out we cannot fully... According to the documentation
 # package maintainers can provide several variables in their config.
 if [ $dbc_dbuser ] ; then _tmp_dbuser=$dbc_dbuser ; fi
 if [ $dbc_basepath ] ; then _tmp_basepath=$dbc_basepath ; fi
 if [ $dbc_dbname ] ; then _tmp_dbuser=$dbc_dbname ; fi

 if [ ! $dbc_dbuser ] ; then dbc_dbuser=$_tmp_dbuser ; fi
 if [ ! $dbc_basepath ] ; then dbc_basepath=$_tmp_basepath ; fi
 if [ ! $dbc_dbname ] ; then dbc_dbuser=$_tmp_dbname ; fi

I am working on improving the CI tests. I will try to remember to
include this as well.

 Any chance you are at DebConf for a beer? :)

Sure. I have a BOF about dbconfig-common [1] where you for sure can find me.

Package: lilyterm
Version: 0.9.9.4-3
Severity: minor

Upstream’s default configuration file hard-codes 'firefox' and
'thunderbird' as URL handlers. Debian should patch this configuration
file to invoke 'sensible-browser' or 'xdg-open' as appropriate.

Upstream seems uninterested in changing this behaviour

Bug#794962: wheezy-pu: package openafs/1.6.1-3+deb7u3

2015-08-08 Thread Benjamin Kaduk
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: wheezy
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

The security update to the linux kernel (3.2.65-1+deb7u2) changed the
KPI by moving d_alias into the d_u union, which causes subsequent
(re)build attempts of the openafs kernel module to fail. (Existing
openafs kernel modules continued to work due to clever work by
the kernel maintainer.) This situation was maintained without great
incident until the upload of openafs 1.6.1-3+deb7u3 to the security
repo, which cause most people to attempt to build a new openafs kernel
module and fail. Two grave bugs (780865 and 794224) reflect that situation.

We had to deal with this problem for jessie back in February, but I
didn't have enough time to fix it for wheezy then. The jessie updates
also included a fix for a bug causing potential data corruption in
mmapped files; I included the fix for that (778851) in this w-p-u as well.

A debdiff between deb7u3 (from the security repo) and my proposed deb7u4
is attached.

Abort. I just wasted a few hours on this (luckily while doing other

Chris can then depend on this version, and that is all that there is to the

made the woes go away. This code still exists in stretch.

Bug#794955: gperf: Embedded code copy with missing copyright

2015-08-08 Thread Hilko Bengen
Control: tag -1 moreinfo

 Your packages contains an embedded code copy of texi2html which is
 copyright Lionel Cons and others and is licensed under the GPL and
 Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. This information is
 missing from debian/copyright of gperf and is thus a violation of policy
 §4.5.

Can you tell me a reliable source for that copyright information?
Online, I have only found old (pre-GNU) versions such as 1.52 with a
weird copyright notice, but no license -- and later versions distributed
by the FSF under the GPL2.

 I found this bug while working on the reproducible builds project [1] to
 make texi2html produce reproducible output.

Thank you, the effort is very much appreciated from my part.

  1. remove the embedded code copy [2] and build-depend on texi2html

I'd like to amend debian/copyright, but also change the Makefile so that
the Debian-provided texi2html is used instead. (I did verifiy that it
still builds).

Cheers,
-Hilko

Bug#571054: Divert /sbin/initctl to fix start(8) in lucid postinsts.

2015-08-08 Thread Steve Langasek
Control: reassign -1 pbuilder

This bug was reassigned to upstart, but that is not correct. The problem
described here is that a bug in the version of *debhelper* in Ubuntu Lucid
caused maintainer scripts for packages that shipped upstart jobs to
incorrectly call 'start' instead of the policy-defined 'invoke-rc.d'
interface. This was a bug in debhelper in an old version of *Ubuntu*.
There is nothing that the *Debian* *upstart* package can do to work around
this bug.

The bug was filed against pbuilder, as the tool managing the chroots on top
of the Debian system, requesting that 'start' be diverted in order to give
an effect similar to policy-rc.d. You might close this bug as wontfix, but
it's nothing that the Debian upstart package can help with.

I waited for gcc 5 to be the default as announced by Matthias on
-devel-announce.

While I agree that a B-D would have been nice for you and the m68k arch,
renaming the packages again is not reasonable for two reasons:

* m68k is not a released architecture.
* There is absolutely no debian package depending on either the old or the new
library.

So, instead of doing extra work for nothing, can you tell me what kind
of problem will the m68k architecture have if you just trigger
an m68k-binary-only NMU of gettext once you have gcc 5 in unstable?

Also, while we are at it: Considering that there has not been an
emphasis on B-D in the various announcement I've seen about this,
is it really a good idea to have the override file for m68k to be
the same as the one for the released architectures?

(Being it different, you would have detected this problem before
the package arrived at unstable).

You caught the wrong past tense, but a typo has snuck past you there.

 The debian-l10n-english housestyle uses double quptes rather than
 simple quotes We also tend to suggest using
 privileged/unprivileged instead of normal.

Because normal people can be sysadmins too, in theory.

 Be consistent with other changes.

It might simplify the explanation if we reshuffled it slightly:

   _Description: Download and build publicfile now?
Please choose whether publicfile should be downloaded and built now.
.
Alternatively you can do it manually later by running the command
get-publicfile and following the instructions. This has the
advantage that it can be run as an unprivileged user, avoiding the
security risks of performing the build as root.
.
Once the software has been built, run the command install-publicfile
(as root) to install the package.

But why does it need a special script to install a package? (Goes and
looks...) Yipe! It just checks I'm root and then runs

  dpkg -i /tmp/publicfile-installer/publicfile*_*.deb

Does the build really leave its output in a predictable location in a
world-writable directory? (Checks) Yes, so if my evil kid brother
has created a /tmp/publicfile-installer/publicfile_0.52-0_amd64.deb,
the build-script will happily dump its .deb alongside it. Then when I
run sudo install-publicfile it'll install the bogus package first,
executing its install-scripts as root.

This hardly seems appropriate for a package where the main selling
point is that it's secure. At the very least build-publicfile should
use a *verbose* cp so that it tells me where it has put the output
.deb! And if it's so hard to remember sudo dpkg -i foo.deb, it
could finish with a reminder!

And not build-essential?

 +Description: installer package for the publicfile HTTP and FTP server
 + Publicfile is an HTTP and FTP server, written by Daniel J. Bernstein in
 + 1999; it didn't change a lot after that. Modern features are not
 + supported. However, if you're looking for a small, simple and secure
   webserver, which integrates with the runit and daemontools UNIX service
   managers, publicfile will suit your needs.
   .
   This installer package downloads the publicfile .tar.gz file from
   the upstream website, combines it with Debian packaging information
   from the package maintainer's website; then builds a publicfile Debian
   package, and installs that. When installing this installer package,
   one is given the option to postpone downloading and installing
   publicfile.

There are a few other trivial issues, but I wouldn't have bothered
except that there's quite a lot missing - such as the point of the
exercise. Why does publicfile need an installer? Why isn't it an
ordinary package in main like DJB's qmail? Okay, maybe the reader
might vaguely remember that DJB is virulently opposed to sane software
licenses, but then didn't he change his mind and declare all his
software public domain? The answer turns out to be: not *quite* all.

Also, it's not clear whether this download-and-build is a one-off
(after which the installer becomes redundant) or whether it'll
automatically check for updates (like the

Thorsten, your work on the m68k arch is really amazing, but I don't
think that submitting grave bugs for bugs that only happen in m68k
is a good idea at all.

By definition, a bug which represent a problem only for unreleased
architectures may not be release critical.

I'll be happy to add a versioned B-D in the next upload just in case
it helps, but if it does not help, then I will do nothing and this is
a wontfix, because I don't consider it reasonable at all.

Bug#794968: zsh: please clear console on logout (if recommended config is used)

2015-08-08 Thread Carsten Hey
Package: zsh
Severity: wishlist

There are more important things that involve less work to do, therefore
this is intended as a low priority wishlist bug.

Please clear console on logout if the recommended config for new users
is used.

This requires:
 * a console_clear (currently part of the bash package) that is not
   completely broken
 * a patched zsh-newuser-install that also installs the file
   /etc/zsh/newuser.zlogout.recommended if available
 * a newuser.zlogout.recommended that handles everything console_clear
   does not and should not handle, for example, don't clear the console
   if $0 is -su (such a file is currently available in a bug report
   against bash and might in future be part of bash)
 * doko relicensing a trivial shell snippet used in /etc/.bash_logout
   (this shouldn't be a problem)

Bug#794967: zsh: please enhance /etc/zshrc

2015-08-08 Thread Carsten Hey
Package: zsh
Severity: wishlist

Please enhance /etc/zshrc:

 * Please add some additional keybindings, at least for the emacs keymap:

   - bind PageUp ${terminfo[kpp]} to history-search-backward

   - bind PageDown ${terminfo[knp]} to history-search-forward

 The bash like history-search-end magic would be an alternative for
 PageUp and PageDown, but history-search-backward does not require
 running zle -N ...

   - bind BackTabKey ${terminfo[kcbt]} to reverse-menu-complete

 In terminfo(5), the capname cbt is described as back tab (P)
 and kcbt is described as back-tab key, therefore the suggested
 'BackTabKey' instead of 'BackTab' - even though grml confuses
 people that know terminfo(5) by using 'BackTab' as name.

   - Maybe F1 could invoke run-help? But then the output of run-help
 w/o arguments should be more useful for new users.

   - Red Hat maps or mapped space to magic-space, I think Debian should
 _not_ do this, but initially I thought that this would be a good
 idea.

 * $key should be unset unless there is a reason for not doing so.

 * (( ${+aliases[run-help]} )) requires the zsh/parameter module.  If,
   in rare cases, possibly involving zsh-static, there is a chance that
   this module is not loaded successfully, you should consider doing
   this instead to remove the alias w/o error message:

 alias run-help=
 unalias run-help

 I will try that after my holiday. Note that there were _no_

I know. I have added one more log message. Maybe it will help.

Bug#794969: udev: change in network device naming scheme unnecessarily and incorrectly renames WiMAX devices

2015-08-08 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: udev
Version: 224-1
Severity: normal

Previously, my WiMAX device was named something like wmx0. Now, it
appears it's been renamed to enxMAC Address. First of all, the name
has changed from what it used to be, and now I have to check that it's
not broken anything. There wasn't supposed to be a naming change for
people with the persistent-net rules in place.

Secondly, this is not an Ethernet device, so en is not correct (it
should be ww). The device is on the USB bus (using the driver
i2400m-usb).

For an example why this matters, think firewall rules: while I might
legitimately want to SSH into my laptop over Ethernet or WiFi (e.g. from
my phone when I'm in the other room), there's no reason I would want
arbitrary people on the Internet (WiMAX) to SSH in. Of course, I have
appropriate security measures in place, but I'd still want to firewall
incoming WiMAX connections, and using an appropriate naming scheme makes
that possible.
