Package: fontconfig-config
Version: 2.4.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

I use dpkg-reconfigure to modify the setting of fontconfig after
upgrade to version 2.4.0-5. Here are the associated debconf
config.dat

* My custom setting

Name: fontconfig/enable_bitmaps
Template: fontconfig/enable_bitmaps
Value: false

Name: fontconfig/hinting_type

Value: Native
Owners: fontconfig-config

Name: fontconfig/subpixel_rendering
Template: fontconfig/subpixel_rendering
Value: Never
Owners: fontconfig-config

While upgrading to version 2.4.1-1, it seems fontconfig-config automatically
restore the setting back to default. I have to use dpkg-reconfigure to set it
again.

* After upgrade to 2.4.1-1

Name: fontconfig/enable_bitmaps

Oops. Fontconfig wasn't looking for a new-style configuration during
upgrade to detect your current settings. I've fixed it to look for
either the old-style or new-style conf.d contents, so anyone upgrading
from 2.4.0-5 to 2.4.1-2 shouldn't have this problem.

Bug#384282: final NMU diff

2006-09-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Marcelo,

As promised, I will be uploading 6.5.0.cvs.20060524-1 to unstable shortly.
The final diff for this NMU is attached. The only substantive difference to
the previous NMU diff is the addition of debian/control fixes to make the
package binNMU-safe, as documented in the other bug report I've just filed.

Thanks,

Because you can't rely on *any* non-essential packages being installed at
purge time.

"Remove" != "Purge". Please see policy for details.

Bug#388011: xserver-xorg.config needs /var/lib/x11 from x11-common; .config scripts can't count on Pre-Depends

2006-09-17 Thread Josh Triplett

xserver-xorg.config requires /var/lib/x11 from x11-common, in order to

Hello Ganesan,

The postrm cannot rely on debconf being installed when the package

Hi Bill,

Something seems to be broken. libslp1 depends on debconf. Why can't it
rely on debconf being installed when the package is purged? How were you
able to remove debconf in the first place while libslp1 was still installed?

thanks

Hi,

I have prepared a patch for RC bug 386202 with updates the package to
the new upstream version 2.0.14. As I am no DD yet I can not do a NMU
myself so I would welcome some DD who can upload the new version.

I have attached the diff.gz. The complete package is available from my
personal repository [1] by doing

dget
http://moonshine.dnsalias.org/debian/unstable/gnome-pilot-conduits_2.0.14-0.1_i386.changes

The changelog is below,

Greetings Arjan Oosting

 gnome-pilot-conduits (2.0.14-0.1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * New upstream release
 - Updated to work with pilot-link 0.12.0 (Closes: 386202)
 - Several critical bugs fixed.
   * debian/control: bump build dependency on libgnome-pilot2-dev.

No. Etch will *only* ship 2.6.

As noted in the same bug log that you cited, if a package should not be
released because it's obsolete, an RC bug should be filed against the
package itself to keep it out of testing *as well as* a bug against
ftp.debian.org.

I stand corrected.

Gerardo Curiel ([javamaniac], from Debian Venezuela) has suggested that
adding libklibc-dev (or any particular kernel headers) to Build-Depends
might solve this problem (since include/asm-s390/system.h defines
several system support routines, including sti()).

Could anyone (with access to raptor or any other S/390 machine) try
this? Thank you very much for your time and patience.

that's not correct, see #354203. etch will *default* to 2.6, ship 2.4
and some unlucky archs might even still need 2.2.

furthermore, this is not a bug of the package but should be reported
against ftp.d.o.

Bug#386938: xorg-server - FTBFS: Error: Unrecognized opcode: `sti'

2006-09-17 Thread José Parrella
This package already implements the previous experiences from other
Debian maintainers regarding recent gcc and binutils interaction in s390
(that is, usage of -DNO_INLINE and correct --build and --host options
for the configure script)

It seems to me that sti doesn't belong here (from the interpretation of
the Principles of Operation [1]) so this might be either a problem in
the configure script (-> autoconf) or an upstream bug in binutils. This
is just my speculation, however.

Jose

Bug#387913: FTBFS on a few arches (source, amd64, hppa, i386, mips, mipsel, powerpc, sparc)

2006-09-17 Thread Agney Lopes Roth Ferraz
hi,
upstream author has released a new hardinfo (0.4). So FTBS from 0.3 will
not be fixed. I was so busy this month, but now I have some time to fix
FTBS and related bugs (#385863, #387955) on hardinfo-0.4. I hope to
upload a new version supporting all archs without problem soon. This
will let hardinfo migrate to testing and solve reported bugs.

see ya

Bug#334697: QA packages with really high popcon numbers :-)

Hi,

> Indeed. Please see for instance

> http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=334697

This bugreport sounds like a joke, really.
If the goal isn't to 'not release apt-listbugs with etch',
this is going to be bad.

Note that the load for apt-listbugs is quite huge, and I doubt
qa.debian.org, or merkel.debian.org will be able to survive that load.
You'll need a new dedicated host for that.

junichi

Package: gdeskcal
Version: 0.57.1-1
Severity: important

  Hi, your package has been detected as generating a (for most of that
mass bug fill: private) python module/extension that may need an upgrade
to the new Python Policy[1].

  A wiki page[2] explains what has to be done to upgrade your packages
to the new Policy. This bug may be a false positive, in that case,
please just close the bug.

  This bug is part of a mass bug filling, and its severity will be
raised to serious when python will default to python2.4 (which should
happend on tomorrow - Wed 2nd of July). Please note that this bug (even
not being RC) falls under the 0-day NMU policy.

Special Notes

  * embedded interpreters: You don't *need* to do anything for your
package, though using XS/XB-Python-Version is much appreciated as it
helps tracking your package for binNMUs when python2.4 will become
default.

  * if you need help updating your package, you can either:
 - mail debian-python@lists.debian.org ,
 - tag your bug + help ,
 - come on #debian-python/OFTC.

lilypond FTBFS here in a sid pbuilder chroot, with a bug apparently not
yet reported.

(Note that there's one additional problem in some setups. I get it when
logging into pbuilder and building manually: current fontforge won't run
when $HOME is set to a non-existent directory, e.g. /home/frank in the
chroot. A bug against fontforge has been reported and is pending, the
workaround is to simply create the home directory.)

Please note that this bug (even
not being RC) falls under the 0-day NMU policy.

helps tracking your package for binNMUs when python2.4 will become

Bug#386084: [PATCH] Re: blam: Fails to start with an exception

2006-09-17 Thread Carlos Martin
Package: blam
Followup-For: Bug #386084

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello,

 With this patch (basically taken from Ubuntu), blam should
start. There are binary versions at http://www.cmartin.tk/blam/ if
you don't want to compile it yourself and feel you can trust me ;)
This is because the package is orphaned and I don't think I'm
qualified to be a maintainer.

 The Ubuntu patch has fixes for some stuff about printing, but I can't
find anywhere were that is actually used, so I've ignored that part.

True, but there's no reason to consider any of these other causes a bug in
the package either, as opposed to a misconfiguration of the build
environment.

And the only autobuilder in Debian that uses vserver is the amd64
autobuilder, which appears to have been able to build this version of perl
without incident; so I'm pretty sure there's no reason here to consider this
bug 'serious'.

Bug#386202: Patch for RC bug 386201

2006-09-17 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi,

I have prepared a patch to upgrade gnome-pilot to the new upstream
version. I will prepare a patch for gnome-pilot-conduits as well.

After I have done that I will test them and see which bugs can be closes
due to the new upstream version. The new gnome-pilot 2.0.4 already fixes
6 bugs in the BTS as far as I can see.

After all this al will send my diff to the BTS.

Greetings Arjan Oosting

Bug#387996: subversion: [m68k] fix for the failing ruby tests

2006-09-17 Thread Roman Zippel
Package: subversion
Version: 1.4.0
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi,

I looked at the failing self tests. The first one is a bug in the
created wrapper. The basic problem is that in
svn_delta.c:_wrap_svn_txdelta_apply_wrapper() the value of temp3 is not
modified by svn_txdelta_apply_wrapper(), so the return is basically
random. In this case the stack is clear and svn_md5_digest_to_cstring()
returns a NULL, which rb_str_new2() doesn't like.
The easiest fix is to change the typemap in svn_types.swg so it can deal
with the NULL pointer. (BTW I tried returning Qnil here, but that
doesn't work well output_helper.)

The other two failures are a bug in the test itself, which simply take a
bit too much time on m68k, so I modified the test a little to accept a
small delay.

bye, Roman

For the record (since Steve appears to have noticed this already),
the last sentence above is false: The SGI Free Software License B
still applies to some of the code I grepped through, and does
contain the problematic clause. I did not initially notice this
because the license text itself is not in the source package;
instead file headers just reference an URL.

Bug#386673: patch

2006-09-17 Thread p2
Hi,

The attached patch works around the problem. A better fix would be to
use an input constraint or to just use the C doe and have the compiler
generate altivec code. Is there a reason the gcc 2.95 generated altivec
code needs to be used ?

Thanks,

Peter (p2).

File ai302.ads belong to libtemplates-parser-dev and I have not this

libtemplates-parser-dev.

Well, it's not reproducible here, so you will need to provide more
information.

Sorry, this strace is not useful, it's an strace only of the
/etc/init.d/samba script -- not of the processes it spawns. We will need an
strace of the smbd command itself. Please also forward any log entries from
/var/log/samba/log.smbd when this happens.

Bug#368560: mesa: material under GLX Public License and SGI Free Software License B is not DFSG-free

No, I don't have such evidence. In fact I never knew in detail which
code was covered by that licence - just noticed it in the copyright
file and saw that it looked fishy. That was before the X.org
transition, and it is entirely plausible that the offending files have
been dropped/replaced/relicenced upstream or otherwise disappeared
along the way.

I have just grepped throught the mesa 6.4.2-1 sources for key phrases
in the problematic license clauses, without finding any of them. So it
seems that this bug does not apply to the current mesa packages, at
least.

thank you

Please try this patch. I'm not a bash (nor debconf!) guru but I think
that it address your concerns regarding the non-interactivity for the
mouse device setting. Please let me know if the patch works for you.
Therefore I'm providing:

1) A full, NMU-ready, source package in [1]
2) i386 binary packages in [1], and
3) A diff regarding the config.in, which you'll find attached

Note that this upload does not fix several Lintian warnings that my
build system reports. I will be glad to fix this if the patch works.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to details.

This problem stems from user-modified fonts.conf files which renders
fontconfig unable to replace it with the new version that includes the
necessary elements. I'm not sure how to fix this, aside from
forcibley overwritting the file.

Please make sure you have allowed fontconfig to replace your fonts.conf
file.

But exists files ssl-thin__dummy.ads, ssl-thin__gnutls.ads,
ssl-thin__openssl.ads. As I undestand they are alternatives for
ssl-thin.ads and must be added debian "alternative" for this.

This is a reasonable assumption on any sanely configured Unix system.
VServer's failure to provide a loopback interface is inexcusable design
brokenness.

While VServer's design decision is indeed arguable, there might be
other reasons why there is no echo-response from 127.0.0.1,
e.g. firewall rules, rate limits, icmp_echo_ignore_all.

No, just reporting the bug a couple of days after I spotted it...

I run unstable.

Which was not the case a couple of days ago, so indeed the bug has been fixed
in the mean time...

Ok, good to know.

Sounds like you have mixed testing/unstable.

In testing XSP is 1.1.15-1 which runs with Mono >= 1.1.13 << 1.1.14
In testing Mono is 1.1.13.8.

So clean testing has not this problem.
Also clean unstable not, since it got XSP 1.1.17 and Mono 1.1.17

The dependency can't be loosed, Mono contains parts that need to match
with the XSP version.

CVE-2006-3320: "Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in command.php
in SiteBar 3.3.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary
web script or HTML via the command parameter."

According to the SiteBar svn history page [1], this has not been fixed
upstream. The original report [2] contains a simple proof-of-concept.
I have not tested it.

The CVE indicates that the version in Sarge is also vulnerable.

Please mention the CVE in your changelog.

Thanks,

No, because this is a compile-time "alternative"; the Debian
alternatives system only deals with run-time "alternatives".
Moreover, you don't really have a choice; due to licensing
requirements, I have linked libaws2.2 against libgnutls13 and so AWS
will always use GNU TLS instead of OpenSSL.

The proper thing to do is to add a package Naming in a project file.
In fact, it should be /usr/share/ada/adainclude/aws.gpr; I'll correct
that problem.

In the mean time, you can try to add this to your project file:

with "aws.gpr";
project Rateme is
  [...]

  package Naming is
 -- Configuration for GNU/Linux using GNU TLS for strong crypto
 for Body ("AWS.Net.SSL") use "aws-net-ssl__gnutls.adb";
 for Body ("AWS.Net.SSL.Certificate")
   use "aws-net-ssl-certificate__gnutls.adb";
 for Body ("AWS.Net.Std") use "aws-net-std__gnat.adb";
 for Body ("AWS.OS_Lib") use "aws-os_lib__gnat.adb";
 for Body ("AWS.Translator.Conversion")
   use "aws-translator-conversion__f.adb";
 for Spec ("SSL.Thin") use "ssl-thin__gnutls.ads";
 for Spec ("Templates_Parser.Configuration")
   use "templates_parser-configuration__aws.ads";
  end Naming;
  ...
end Rateme;

This fix will become unnecessary when I upload the patched AWS.

Thanks for pointing the problem to me.

Cleaning the superblock of /dev/hdc also clean the one of /dev/hdc3 and
so leaving the raid in a degraded state. But at least I can now boot the
system after running the md0 by hand.

Note that the partition /dev/hdd3 is also at the end of the disk but do
not make problemes.

This is a very critical bug and should be fixed in etch (I think, this
is release critical!!!)

Bug#336373: #336373 - subversion: svn MKCOL ssl error - Debian Bug report logs

2006-09-17 Thread Erik Rose

This bug report is about a client error related to libssl.

Ah, right you are. I had read #338006 but managed to miss that
detail. Sorry, and thanks.

I tried my "svn list -R" with a build of Subversion linked against OS
X's native libssl, and all went swimmingly. I'll file a bug with
DarwinPorts.

Thanks again!

Hi,

a new Tex distribution was added to Debian: Tex-Live. It would be great
if your package supports it. To do so add an appropriate dependency rule.
An alternative of tetex-bin | texlive-base should be enough, but check
what your package really need. In case of questions the people on the
texlive mailinglist pkg-texlive-maint@lists.alioth.debian.org might help.

Thank you.

Bye, Jörg.

Package: jadetex
Version: 3.13-6
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

(This bug also exists upstream, at least in texlive. The Debian TeX
maintainer are going to care for this).

Since jadetex is a LaTeX-based format, it should search TEXMF/tex/latex
after TEXMF/tex/jadetex and before other paths. Because the latex path
is missing in TEXINPUTS.jadetex, jadetex will for example find cslatex's
version of fonttext.cfg before LaTeX's.

This problem has not shown up so far because jadetex currently loads a
pre-built latex.fmt. But this must be stopped (see the clone of bug
#375037, don't know the number jet), and therefore jadetex would get
incompatible with cslatex. But the bug would be important anyway.

Furthermore, pdfjadetex should not mention the non-existent pdftex
toplevel directory in its search path. This leads to the following
complete patch:

--- /etc/texmf/texmf.d/96JadeTeX.cnf.orig   2006-08-23 17:25:53.0

+TEXINPUTS.jadetex = .;$TEXMF/tex/{jadetex,latex,plain,generic,}//
+TEXINPUTS.pdfjadetex = .;$TEXMF/{tex}/{jadetex,latex,plain,generic,}//

Note that there's an additional bug in tex-common: It also sets
TEXINPUTS.jadetex and TEXINPUTS.pdfjadetex, so the change in jadetex
won't have any effect until this is removed. No bugnumber yet, I'll
file it at once. And please don't wonder why I file it with severity
important only: That's because the bug exists also in the version in
testing, tex-common is supposed to migrate to testing tonight, and I
don't want to try whether I am able to correctly tell britney that the
bug is in both versions.

Bug#387944: samba hangs during boot

2006-09-17 Thread Christian Pernegger
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.23c-1
Severity: critical

When I tried to boot up this machine about 1h ago it would not come
up properly - ssh or VLC logins would fail. Upon closer inspection it
hung after the "nmbd" part of the samba initscript output.

It's reproducible, not a timeout (I waited at least 10min) and not
network related (that comes up fine and pings work). Booting in single
user mode bypasses the problem of course but some poeple with headless
machines might be in trouble if they're away from them.

I run a very current testing an this box, the last reboot (that
worked) was about 2 days ago.

Doing /etc/init.d/samba/start from the commandline (in single user)
has the same result, strace attached.

Thanks,

C.

Thanks for the patch. I have tentatively added it to trunk (well, once i do a
test build, and thus check it doesn't break), and it should be in tomorrow's
or more probably the day after's snapshot builds. I will probably upload a
package to http://people.debian.org/~luther once the build finishes.

Bug#387500: Debian installer fails to install GRUB

2006-09-17 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

found 0.97-16
thanks

I just had a look at grub version 0.97-16, and /sbin/grub-install is
still missing. This path is used by grub-installer in d-i beta 3, and
thus the installation fail. Adding a symlink in /target from
/sbin/grub-install to /usr/sbin/grub-install solved the problem.

Bug#366620: 2.6.16-1-powerpc fails to mount rootfs, 2.6.15-1-powerpc works

2006-09-17 Thread Christian Aichinger

> are both 0.

arch/powerpc/kernel/prom_init.c:prom_check_initrd() is broken. The
relevant part of the code is:

,--
|   unsigned long val;
|   ...
|   val = RELOC(prom_initrd_start);

|   prom_setprop(_prom->chosen, "/chosen", "linux,initrd-start",

|&val, sizeof(val));

|   val = RELOC(prom_initrd_end);

|   prom_setprop(_prom->chosen, "/chosen", "linux,initrd-end",

|&val, sizeof(val));

`--

As you can see it tries to store pointers to initrd start/end in the
/chosen node, however in reality it stores the address of val, a
local variable. Since that's long gone invalid when the values are
read out from /chosen again, the result is undefined.

The attached is a patch fixing the problem. It would be nice if the
bug submitters could test it to see if it fixes their problems too.

Cheers,
Christian Aichinger

PS: arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac/bootx_init.c does something
similar, though it looks saner, as it copies *val into it's own
permanent memory block AFAICS.

Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

here is the problem:

# apt-get install octave-gpc
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  octave-gpc: Depends: libgfortran0 (>= 4.0.2) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

Could you please recompile octave-gpc with gfortran 4.1 ?

Are you happy with just removing these files as conffiles (i.e., keeping
