Bug#561217: building xdotool on sparc
hi Marc-- xdotool upstream has changed the test suites as of version 20091231.03 so that they don't hit the particular race condition i think your buildd ran into on debian bug #561217. but the latest sparc build attempt appears to fail because of some dependency trouble: https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=xdotoolarch=sparcver=20091231.03-1stamp=1262950039file=logas=raw So i don't know if xdotool will build on that arch properly or not (that is, if i can close #561217). When it becomes possible to coax a build out of spontini, if you could follow up here, that'd be great. Thanks for running the buildd, and for taking the trouble to report this kind of bug. --dkg signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

No, actually, this is a related, but not identical problem. Since you've already mereged, that's fine. However, as a future FYI, the first problem was with missing conflict relationships in library packages. The second is with me sticking files in the wrong newly created packages. forcemerge 562449 564377 reassign 562449 ftp.debian.org retitle 562449 RM: celementtree -- RoM; only useful with python 2.5 thanks On Thu, 24 Dec 2009, dktrkr...@debian.org wrote: Squeze will release with Python 2.5 and Python 2.6, while Python 2.4 is scheduled for removal when no packages will depend on it. Recent python-defaults disabled support for Python 2.4 already, so it is no longer supported version for module and extension building. This package is either part of standard library in newer Python, or known not to work with Python 2.5 or newer, so it will be removed in a very near future. If you don't believe this package has to be removed, please follow in the bug report, otherwise this will become a RM request together with python2.4 package. It's about time to remove the package since it now fails to build from source due to the fact that python 2.4 support is disabled already (see #564377). Thus I'm reassigning it to ftp.debian.org. severity 562639 important thanks Hi, the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were published for sql-ledger. The package is clearly identified as being usable only in trusted environments, and it's tagged secteam::lenny-limited-support. Thus it doesn't warrant a grave severity. Given that upstream doesn't care at all, it's quite possible that some of them are fixed but we don't know and most reports do not come with simple test cases or with patches so there's not much I can do except if I spend countless hours reproducing the issues and writing patches myself (which I won't). Bug#564601: possible problems when switching UID/GIDs in delivery mode when run as root
On Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 08:02:31PM -0500, Sam Varshavchik wrote: % id testmaildrop uid=1006(testmaildrop) gid=1006(testmaildrop) groups=1006(testmaildrop) uid=1006(testmaildrop) gid=0(root) groups=0(root) That's the problem. After using -d, it changes the user but not the group. Can you reproduce that? So, invoking maildrop gives it root privileges, and groupid mail. maildrop checks the -d option, changes its userid as specified, leaves the group id at its acquired mail uid, then it can create stuff in /var/spool/mail appropriately. That's what it looks like is happening here, to me. The missing link in your situation, apparently, is maildrop binary's setgroupid bit being set. We use this by default: % ls -l =maildrop -rwxr-sr-x 1 root mail 162676 2008-01-20 23:23 /usr/bin/maildrop I think we're suffering from the fact that the +s bit sets the effective gid, but that gets ignored later. I'm not sure, but it sounds like we may need an explicit setgid or something, to make sure we really honor the +s bit rather than root's real gid? % cat gid.c #include stdio.h #include unistd.h #include sys/types.h int main(void) { gid_t mygid; mygid = getgid(); printf(getgid returned: %d\n, mygid); mygid = getegid(); printf(getegid returned: %d\n, mygid); setgid(getegid()); mygid = getgid(); printf(getgid returned: %d\n, mygid); mygid = getegid(); printf(getegid returned: %d\n, mygid); } % gcc -o gid gid.c % sudo chgrp mail ./gid; sudo chmod g+s ./gid % ./gid getgid returned: 1000 getegid returned: 8 getgid returned: 1000 getegid returned: 8 % sudo ./gid getgid returned: 0 getegid returned: 8 getgid returned: 8 getegid returned: 8 -- 2. By the first half of January I will package the new upstream version of Dynare. I will therefore include a patch for this TexLive issue (using double anti-slashes). I'm not happy with that solution. IMO, it's up to dblatex to treat filename/filename correctly. Otherwise, a lot of documents must be changed. The bug in dblatex has been fixed [1]. Killing gnome-power-manager (by keyboard interrupt) also breaks the loop, although this is only practical when I run g-p-m from a terminal in the foreground. -- Package-specific info: Distro version: squeeze/sid Kernel version: 2.6.32-trunk-686 g-p-m version:2.28.2 HAL version: 0.5.14 System manufacturer: missing System version: missing System product: missing AC adapter present: yes Battery present: yes Laptop panel present: yes CPU scaling present: yes Battery Information: battery.charge_level.current = 65300 (0xff14) (int) battery.charge_level.design = 74880 (0x12480) (int) battery.charge_level.last_full = 65300 (0xff14) (int) battery.charge_level.percentage = 100 (0x64) (int) battery.charge_level.rate = 0 (0x0) (int) battery.is_rechargeable = true (bool) battery.model = '42T4571' (string) battery.present = true (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_charging = false (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_discharging = false (bool) battery.reporting.current = 65300 (0xff14) (int) battery.reporting.design = 74880 (0x12480) (int) battery.reporting.last_full = 65300 (0xff14) (int) battery.reporting.rate = 0 (0x0) (int) battery.reporting.technology = 'Li-ion' (string) battery.reporting.unit = 'mWh' (string) battery.serial = ' 6568' (string) battery.technology = 'lithium-ion' (string) battery.type = 'primary' (string) battery.vendor = 'SONY' (string) battery.voltage.current = 16430 (0x402e) (int) battery.voltage.design = 14400 (0x3840) (int) battery.voltage.unit = 'mV' (string) DeviceKit data: Device: /org/freedesktop/DeviceKit/Power/devices/line_power_AC native-path: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:00/PNP0C09:00/ACPI0003:00/power_supply/AC power supply: yes updated: Tue Jan 12 18:26:19 2010 (47134 seconds ago) has history: no has statistics: no line-power online: yes Device: /org/freedesktop/DeviceKit/Power/devices/battery_BAT0 native-path: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:00/PNP0C09:00/PNP0C0A:00/power_supply/BAT0 vendor: SONY model:42T4571 serial: 6568 power supply: yes updated: Tue Jan 12 19:52:37 2010 (41956 seconds ago) has history: yes has statistics: yes battery present: yes rechargeable:yes state: fully-charged energy: 65.3 Wh energy-empty:0 Wh energy-full: 65.3 Wh energy-full-design: 74.88 Wh energy-rate: 0 W voltage: 16.468 V percentage: 100% capacity:87.2062% technology: lithium-ion Daemon: daemon-version: 013 can-suspend: yes can-hibernateyes on-battery: no on-low-battery: no lid-is-closed: no lid-is-present: yes GNOME Power Manager Process Information: bremner 8798 0.1 0.8 30564 18028 pts/0S+ 07:17 0:01 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/reportbug gnome-power-manager bremner 12553 0.0 0.0 2624 1112 pts/0S+ 07:31 0:00 | \_ /bin/bash /usr/share/reportbug/handle_bugscript /usr/share/bug/gnome-power-manager/ HAL Process Information: 106 1750 0.0 0.2 6476 4456 ?Ss Jan12 0:04 /usr/sbin/hald root 1751 0.0 0.0 3336 1196 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ hald-runner root 1765 0.0 0.0 3400 1152 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-leds root 1801 0.0 0.0 3400 1132 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-rfkill-killswitch root 1821 0.0 0.0 3428 1356 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ hald-addon-input: Listening on /dev/input/event0 /dev/input/event2 /dev/input/event1 /dev/input/event3 /dev/inp root 1833 0.0 0.0 3412 1184 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-cpufreq 106 1835 0.0 0.0 3256 1148 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket root 1903 0.0 0.0 3396 1136 ?SJan12 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-generic-backlight -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnome-power-manager depends on: ii consolekit0.4.1-2framework for
Bug#563998: Please add Breaks: kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking (= 1.0-1)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Source: kmymoney2 Version: 3.95.0+svn1069391-1 Severity: serious Hi, as reported in Debian bug #563998 the upload of kmymoney2 3.95.0+svn1069391-1 broke package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking. As this upload also made kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking fail to build from source in a non-trivial way, bug #563998 isn't likely to be closed soon. In fact I'm thinking about the removal of package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking. In case the package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking really gets removed from the archive and Debian Squeeze gets released without it, an upgrade to kmymoney2 3.95.0+svn1069391-1 or later would leave the package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking in a unusable state. I suggest that the package kmymoney2 should indicate this by an added dependency field in the control file: Breaks: kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking (= 1.0-1) However, in the long run I plan to upload a fixed version of kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking as soon as the mentioned problems have been sorted out upstream. Bug#564601: possible problems when switching UID/GIDs in delivery mode when run as root
Josip Rodin writes: On Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 08:02:31PM -0500, Sam Varshavchik wrote: % id testmaildrop uid=1006(testmaildrop) gid=1006(testmaildrop) groups=1006(testmaildrop) uid=1006(testmaildrop) gid=0(root) groups=0(root) That's the problem. After using -d, it changes the user but not the group. Can you reproduce that? So, invoking maildrop gives it root privileges, and groupid mail. maildrop checks the -d option, changes its userid as specified, leaves the group id at its acquired mail uid, then it can create stuff in /var/spool/mail appropriately. That's what it looks like is happening here, to me. The missing link in your situation, apparently, is maildrop binary's setgroupid bit being set. We use this by default: % ls -l =maildrop -rwxr-sr-x 1 root mail 162676 2008-01-20 23:23 /usr/bin/maildrop I think we're suffering from the fact that the +s bit sets the effective gid, but that gets ignored later. I'm not sure, but it sounds like we may need an explicit setgid or something, to make sure we really honor the +s bit rather than root's real gid? Maybe, maybe not. Instead of invoking 'id' as a child process of maildrop, try just having maildrop deliver a test message to a new mailbox, and see what the ownership of the new file becomes. There's some juggling of userid and groupid that happens as a result of exec(), so exec()in 'id' may itself be changing the picture. The man page for exec(2) says: The effective user ID of the process is copied to the saved set-user- ID; similarly, the effective group ID is copied to the saved set-group- ID. This copying takes place after any effective ID changes that occur because of the set-user-ID and set-group-ID permission bits. That does not paint 100% of the picture, but I have a dim recollection of having to deal with this, in a different context, elsewhere. Try the experiment I suggested, and see what happens. pgpMBDHebI8zI.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#564928: the mbr needs updating
I had this issue this morning. It is caused by the installation of the new grub not updating the actual mbr, and only the files in /boot/grub/ It is a simple fix; as root, execute something like this after you install the new package for grub-pc. (changing the destination for your drive, this was __my exact command__ for my computer): # grub-install --no-floppy --recheck --force /dev/sda3 a more generic command may look like: # grub-install /dev/sda now, reboot, and it should boot perfectly. If you install the new grub-pc and forget to update the boot sector, you can chroot in and do it that way (thats what I did). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#565160: Linux console garbled after experimental grub-pc boot
Package: grub-pc Version: 1.98~experimental.20100111.1-1 Severity: serious Hi, Trying the experimental grub. Like Fabian reported in http://bugs.debian.org/564844, text does not show up in the graphical boot menu. But that is fine for now; I blindly hit enter, and grub boots the default item, which is Linux 2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764 (a recent snapshot of the linux-next tree). But the screen with some bullets, a rectangle, and no text does not go away. Did grub not notice I pressed enter? No, I hear the hard drive accessed in the same pattern as a normal boot. So I blindly log in and start X; X is fine. If I switch back to the text-mode console now, I get something similar to the boot menu screen, but with some snow mixed in. Back to X, fine. Rebooting Linux with kexec does nothing to help this. Odd. Version 1.98~experimental.20091229-1 is similar: though the boot menu looks like text mode, when Linux boots, it is garbled and I cannot make out anything until I start X. Version 1.98~20100110-1, on the other hand, seems to initialize the console correctly. Video card is ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x [1002:4c46], which is to say, an r128. Bugscript output attached. Despite the glitches, this does look promising. :-) Hope that helps, Jonathan *** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 / ext4 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0 *** END /proc/mounts *** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/hda *** END /boot/grub/device.map *** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default=0 if [ ${prev_saved_entry} ]; then set saved_entry=${prev_saved_entry} save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z ${boot_once} ]; then saved_entry=${chosen} save_env saved_entry fi } insmod ext2 set root=(/dev/sda,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 if loadfont /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=640x480 insmod gfxterm insmod vbe if terminal_output gfxterm ; then true ; else # For backward compatibility with versions of terminal.mod that don't # understand terminal_output terminal gfxterm fi insmod ext2 set root=(/dev/sda,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 insmod gfxmenu set theme=($root)/boot/grub/debian-theme/theme.txt set menuviewer=gfxmenu fi set locale_dir=/boot/grub/locale set lang=en insmod gettext set timeout=5 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### set gfxpayload=keep insmod png loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_10.pf2 loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_12.pf2 loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_bold_14.pf2 set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod ext2 set root=(/dev/sda,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 echoLoading Linux 2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e ... linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e root=UUID=3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 ro quiet echoLoading initial ramdisk ... initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e } menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e (recovery mode) --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod ext2 set root=(/dev/sda,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 echoLoading Linux 2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e ... linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e root=UUID=3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 ro single echoLoading initial ramdisk ... initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.33-rc3-next-20100111-02660-g364764e } menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.33-rc2-00304-g9ab1276 --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod ext2 set root=(/dev/sda,1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 echoLoading Linux 2.6.33-rc2-00304-g9ab1276 ... linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.33-rc2-00304-g9ab1276 root=UUID=3b48df60-83e0-4fd2-a152-22b942ab5599 ro quiet echoLoading initial ramdisk ... initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.33-rc2-00304-g9ab1276 } menuentry Debian
Bug#564611: console unusuable after upgrade
reopen 564611 thanks This freeze was not caused by the removal of console-setup. Perhaps, but rebooting without reinstalling it did not solve anything, so it is linked somehow. Keyboard-configuration is not supposed to depend on console-setup | console-setup-mini. I don't know who is responsible for this bug or whether it is a bug but there is nothing to be fixed in console-setup. Seems you don't know much about anything. If console-tools is not faulty, then you could help me find out why this removal has such unattended impact. Without any proof this package is perfect, i don't see any reason to close this bug. You may be unwilling to work on the problem and tag it WONTFIX, but you don't have any argument to close it. I find it quite rude to just say that's not my responsability and not try at all to help users. Every autoremoval of packages involves the risk to remove a package that the user does not want removed. If users migrating from Lenny have important packages removed with the default way of cleaning his system (with apt-get autoremove, as suggested by the tool itself), then i think this is a problem. As this leads to a grave problem which you have not been able to argument against, then this bug should be investigated before it is eventually closed. So, why don't you want to help ? In the unlikely case it is not, I will fix it in my next koffice upload due to this week. I like more b) but i think it still will confuse some scripts asummin the package is in unstable (so showing this problem affecting). As you can see, I choose b) now. Also you have tagged other packages in similar cases. I guess you were tagging after doko's bug updates, but he did not look carefully and there is ton of false positives (e.g. #565009) No, I'm cleaning up http://alioth.debian.org/~rhonda-guest/stable-RC.php from bugs not related to stable, but shown by the bts as if they were, cause the package has the same version in stable as in sid+squeeze. cheers, Holger signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ---End Message---

I noticed that as above, evdev module is unloaded after similar problems with my mouse here. I could only go out from there by pressing the reboot button. The above is a red herring, it doesn't have anything to do with whatever bug you're seeing. Finally found the reason for this problem, kernel evdev module was not loaded. I have worked around this by explicitly adding evdev to /etc/modules in my sid box. However, until last weekend/this week, it was automagically loaded, with no need for explicit inclusion into /etc/modules. What has changed in this time to trigger the problem? Please note though, that maintainer-clean will *not* clean up the files that were changed by autoreconf, i.e. you will end up with a huge diff. You rather have to clean up the generated files manually. I have worked around this by explicitly adding evdev to /etc/modules in my sid box. Bug#554046: gnome-power-manager: suspend loop on lid open
Josselin Mouette wrote: Le mercredi 13 janvier 2010 à 07:36 -0400, David Bremner a écrit : I get a loop with suspend as a lid action. The system just barely comes up again, and then suspends itself. As explained in the previous comments, you need to remove uswsusp. Still smells like a bug in g-p-m though. As the original bug submitter reported, this issue still happens, just less often. My guess is, that with uswsusp installed timing is a bit different, that's why the bug is triggered (more often). Adding a Conflicts might be a temporary workaround but it isn't a proper bug fix for this issue. Package: clamav-daemon Version: 0.95.2+dfsg-0volatile1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable The new clamav version as availaible from etch-volatile since January 02 2010 cannot be installed properly as clamav-daemon depends on lsb-base = 3.2-13 which is not available in etch like this. Bug#564611: console unusuable after upgrade
close 564611 thanks I am closing this bug because as I said there is nothing wrong in console-setup. On Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 03:37:21PM +0100, Marc Dequènes (Duck) wrote: This freeze was not caused by the removal of console-setup. Perhaps, but rebooting without reinstalling it did not solve anything, so it is linked somehow. Ok, and it is true - I don't know anything about this. But the fact is this happens only while console-setup is not installed so most certainly the problem is somewhere else. Seems you don't know much about anything. If console-tools is not faulty, then you could help me find out why this removal has such unattended impact. From your report I concluded that you knew the reason console-setup was removed. It was automatically installed by the dependency of xserver-xorg(-core) and then removed when this dependency was changed to a dependency on keyboard-configuration. And it is obvious why its removal had such an impact. I find it quite rude to just say that's not my responsability and not try at all to help users. I agree. I decided that you didn't need help because you fixed your own system. And I think no action is required in any package so it is better to close the bug than to reassign somewhere else. And it would be stupid to tag it 'wontfix' because no fix is necessary. Every autoremoval of packages involves the risk to remove a package that the user does not want removed. If users migrating from Lenny have important packages removed with the default way of cleaning his system (with apt-get autoremove, as suggested by the tool itself), then i think this is a problem. Yes, it would be a problem and it would probably mean xserver-xorg has to depend again on console-setup. Fortunately the lenny's version of xserver-xorg doesn't depend on console-setup. So, why don't you want to help ? Because I don't know what I can do about it. I don't think Debian will be improved in any way if xserver-xorg(-core) depends again on console-setup. Bug#550562: Blob firmware loader corrupts filesystem
On Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 02:30:18 -0800, Ben Wong wrote: When you say it 'only affect systems that use the radeon/R200_cp.bin firmware' do you mean that you tested systems with other Radeon GPU versions and they were not affected, or that this problem appeared after the firmware was separated out (Debian package version 2.6.29-1)? My apologies for the poorly worded sentence. While it happens to be the case that all the reports of this corruption that I've seen on the Net concern the R200 firmware, I have not tested other Radeon GPUs. FWIW, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550977 was reported on r100, not r200.
