Discussion period starts for the Constitutional amendment
Hi Folks, About three years ago, When we talked about this the last time around, in the summer on 2000, there were two camp, with two wildly different interpretations of the constitution, regarding section 4.1.5 of the constitution. This amendment was proposed to resolve that ambiguity. We now have three related proposals, all of whom have had the required number of sponsors. == 4.2. Procedure 1. The Developers follow the Standard Resolution Procedure, below. A resolution or amendment is introduced if proposed by any Developer and sponsored by at least K other Developers, or if proposed by the Project Leader or the Technical Committee. 4. The minimum discussion period is 2 weeks, but may be varied by up to 1 week by the Project Leader. The Project Leader has a casting vote. There is a quorum of 3Q. 7. Q is half of the square root of the number of current Developers. K is Q or 5, whichever is the smaller. Q and K need not be integers and are not rounded. == Many thanks to Andrew Suffield for collating this information. Each proposal needs at least 5 seconds. Here are the proposals, listed in chronological order. Proposal A: Proposed by: Manoj Srivastava [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00047.html Seconds: 1 Andrew Suffield [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00053.html 2 Neil Roeth [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00062.html 3 Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00059.html 4 Matthias Urlichs [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00077.html 5 Joe Nahmias [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00078.html Proposal B: Proposed by: Branden Robinson [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00025.html Seconds: 1 Bob Hilliard [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00027.html 2 Richard Braakman [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00029.html 3 Andrew Suffield [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2003/debian-vote-200309/msg00031.html 4 John H. HP graciously began allowing this to be downloaded in mid-2000. [1] I don't know exactly what this means by way of copyright and/or license, and I have emailed the webmaster of hpcalc.org to see if he knows any more details. I imagine ROMs won't be distributable. x48 itself is under the GPL. x48 hasn't been maintained for about 4 years now, and didn't work very well on modern processors when I picked up the source (timing issues). But Eddie Dost, the original author, has graciously worked with me to get those issues resolved and it now works like a charm. So my question is, is there a problem with creating a package for a fine but mostly-unmaintained piece of software that does its job, when I myself have minimal familiarity with the code (or the HP48 processor itself)? I would appreciate a package. I did one myself but never made it public. Where can the fixed version be downloaded? Re: Building kernel modules for stock kernels is a hell of a job!
Scripsit Manoj Srivastava [EMAIL PROTECTED] He said use the kernel-headers package, not kernel-package. Any debian packaged module shall work with something like: ./debian/rules KVERS=2.4.21 KSRC=/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.4.21 KPKG_DEST_DIR=../ KDREV=blah kdist_image Interesting. Just out of curiosity, where is that supposed to be documented? Knowing this might have enabled me to make use of the debian packaging [1] of a module I needed a couple of weeks ago, but I could not find any applicable docs in either the kernel-package, kernel-source-XXX or the module source itself. Bug#213348: developers-reference: Binary-only NMU and dependencies
Package: developers-reference Version: 3.3.3 Severity: wishlist Hello, I remarked that some binary-only NMU are breaking packages by making them uninstallable. The problem occurs when a source package generate more than one binary package, a few architecture dependant and a few architecture independant, with strict dependenciess between them, ie using $(Source-Version). If a binary-only NMU is done, the architecture dependant packages have a different version than the architecture independant one. In that case, binary-only NMU should be avoided, instead, the maintainer should be asked to upload a new version. Thus I propose the add the following paragraph to the Debian Developer's Reference, section 5.10.2.1: ... available one). You have to make sure that doing a binary-only NMU won't render the package uninstallable. It could occur when a source package generates both architecture dependant and independant packages that depend on each other through $(Source-Version). In the later case, you may consider doing a source NMU. Despite ... (Don't hesitate to fix my grammar/spelling in this paragraph, English is not my native language). Skipped 0.69 because it was shunned upstream due to not actually fixing the Yahoo! problem, and installed Perl all wrong. Since 0.68 we've added Contact support, Tcl plugins, SSL for Jabber and the new MSN plugin, and fixed the Yahoo! connection problems. Also, I'm experimenting with a new changelog format. - pays attention to the challenge type that Yahoo! sends us, and presents an error on unknown types(closes: #212941) - supports the new Yahoo! challenge type (one of them, anyway) (closes: #212749) - supports the new MSN protocol (closes: #207745) . * debian/patches/00-libtoolize.patch: - reran libtoolize with the Debian version of libtool, so that Perl support works on arm, m68k and friends (thanks Keybuk) * debian/patches/cvs-yahoo-tweak.patch: - tweak to Yahoo! authentication code [from CVS] * debian/patches/gtkspell-locale.patch: - sets the GtkSpell dictionary according to the current locale. Not merged upstream because blah blah Windows aspell blah blah, but I don't really care. Sigh. (closes: #202009) . * debian/control: - standards version 3.6.1 - dropped build conflicts in light of --disable-nss working properly now (I submitted a patch just before 0.69) - added versioned build-depend on libperl-dev = 5.8.1, because DESTDIR just decided to start working in MakeMaker, and I don't see how to consistently support builds both with and without that functionality without grossly hacking the build system - change Tcl build-depend to tcl8.3-dev, which is all it supports at the moment, and add tk8.3-dev for Tk support - added ${perl:Shlibs} to depends * debian/gaim.docs: - removed plugins/SIGNALS because it's gone upstream - all the API docs are moving into Doxygen, and I'll consider shipping them whenever upstream starts shipping header files * debian/rules: - add --disable-nss to ensure consistent SSL library choice Files: 9b734bcd021c4399d6548e6860129a8c 715 net optional gaim_0.70-1.dsc bea0c12ad4229be893b4b28ee6e4e929 4490202 net optional gaim_0.70.orig.tar.gz 1a320f01a156c5aa5a78b4db2f7e0cf6 247020 net optional gaim_0.70-1.diff.gz 1328c95f0c3884933b676781e32ef93d 2356702 net optional gaim_0.70-1_i386.deb -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/d/73Xcrf4TUB5sURAm+aAJsGdhtexc0l7PVuOgCgpaMiN9H4IQCeJHis H7Mfk4okhZWNTbdhuPWIJyQ= =y+JU -END PGP SIGNATURE- Accepted: gaim_0.70-1.diff.gz to pool/main/g/gaim/gaim_0.70-1.diff.gz gaim_0.70-1.dsc to pool/main/g/gaim/gaim_0.70-1.dsc gaim_0.70-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/gaim/gaim_0.70-1_i386.deb gaim_0.70.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/g/gaim/gaim_0.70.orig.tar.gz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
