kdeprint_3.0.4

2002-10-09 Thread Greg C. Madden
This package (kdeprint_3.0.4) appears to be corrupt. I get a bad md5sum
error downloading trying to install also say package tar is corrupt.

What is the method for reporting such errors. Email ? someone. This list
is my contact point with Debian KDE although I grabbed these packages
from a KDE mirror.

I guess I am not sure what integration there is supposed to be; I assumed an

 openoffice icons?? File associations??

Currently, all OpenOffice.org files clicked on from Konqueror will open with

I am just curious as to whether this is a problem with my system, or if this
is just the current state of these debs.

I have one openoffice.org entry in the start application menu. All the

I think it has to do with the 'auth' option in the /etc/ppp/options
file. You can test by changing the line to 'noauth'.

# Require the peer to authenticate itself before allowing network
# packets to be sent or received.
# Please do not disable this setting. It is expected to be standard in
# future releases of pppd. Use the call option (see manpage) to disable
# authentication for specific peers.

knode, no visible text

2002-07-18 Thread Greg C. Madden
I have upgraded my Woody box with KDE3 from kde3.geniussystems. When I
try to reply to or create a new message in Knode I do not see any text.
I do believe text is present, I can run spell-check and it finds
misspelled words. Anyone have the same issue or know where to look for
answers.

TIA

 Hey all,

I've installed KDE on my debian box (via apt-get) and when I fire it up it
 seems
to work fine until I it gets to initializing perihperals at which point it
freezes - and takes console with it. Nothing can be done at console.
 ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't kill X, virtual consoles can't be used. I CAN ssh
 in,
but killing X doesn't bring back console - the KDE start up screen stays
 until a
 reboot is done.

Interestingly enough prior to getting to initializing perihperals I can use
 my
mouse just fine. If I set KDE to startup at boot I can use my mouse and type
 in
my password just fine (implying both mouse and keyboard are configured
 correctly
in XF86Config) - but after logging in, when it gets to initializing
 perihperals it again freezes.

Another note: I can launch X and twm and it works fine - it's just KDE that
 has
a problem. The logs aren't very helpful here:

Last time X-windows/KDE startup froze on me I found my fontpaths in
~/XF86Config-4 were configured wrong. I had just loaded Abiword was
trying to deal with Abiwords fontpath requirements. Fontpath issues can
include anti-aliasing in KDE I think.

I actually just figured it out - I switched from using xserver-xfree86 to
 xserver-svga and it works now.

My only problem now is that I get interference sort of. When I scroll in a
konsole or other app there's lots of white lines that appear, usually next to
 or
above that application. This also happens when an app opens or closes. Any
 ideas?

afaik, xserver-xfree86 is for Xfree86 ver. 4.x xserver-svga is for
Xfree86 ver. 3.x so I don't know if I am much help.

According to the kde developers no bug fixes are being done for kde2.
ALL the work (bug fixes etc.) are being done for kde3 which is not all
that different as you have noticed, but for those of us that have
standardized our desktops on kde and like bug free performance it
(unfortunately) means we have to track the kde releases as the kde
developers determine. This is not an attack on the kde developers who
are doing, imho, amazing work, as are the Debian developers.

Drastic but ..Do a 'dpkg -P xdm, gdm, kdm' then 'apt-get install kdm',
this assumes that you have a source for KDE for Stable.

kmaill

2002-01-13 Thread Greg C. Madden
I have the latest kmail from unstable running on a testing box. I have
set up several filters, created folders subscribed to two Debian
lists, user, kde. Sometime during the breakage in KDE I lost the ability
to see the messages and headers in one of the debian folders. All the
messages are there, the folder in ~/Mail shows new messages being
downloaded but they don't show up in Kmail. Anyone seeing this behavior
?

A positive note on the KDE issue, while waiting for the fix, I tried out
Evolution Galeon, very nice apps, thank you.

Try deleting the index files (.foldername.index and
.foldername.index.sorted). They are in your ~/Mail directory. When
you delete them, they will be regenerated they next time you start
KMail. All you loose are the status flags.

 Does that help?

Yes, thank so much.
