Bug#751609: RFS: dmaths/3.5.2.5+dfsg1-1 (new version of a package that is already in Debian)
Hi Eribert, 2. d/control: - Explain me why the package depends of writer and draw to work. Has no sense to install the package without these two programs. I don't know if I understand the question... You put in long description It also allows you to use your favorite drawing software and include graphs of functions into a document. So, why install draw compulsorily as dependency? I am trying understand the package. If using writer, will you need of the draw? Dmaths is work with Writer and Draw. It does not depend on the two, but some of them must be installed. Perhaps you could do depend on the LibreOffice metapackage. - Please, create a VCS to control your debian/ versions. You can use github or other. So, add the Vcs-Browser and Vcs-{Git|Svn|Cvs} to d/control. I want to do this with all my packages, but now I have no time. I don't practice with Git and will need some time for me to update. You can use SVN or CVS (or GIT). Sorry but it is an essential condition for me. GitHub is simple and has several tutorials and videos on Internet. Yes, I understand it, but at this moment I have no time to document to do this. Perhaps I can do in a few months 5. After the build, there are two wrong independent license files in the package: usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/DmathsAddon/Fichiers/licence.odt usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/DmathsAddon/Fichiers/license.txt You must add an override_dh_install to d/rules to remove these files ($ man dh): override_dh_install: dh_install rm -f $(CURDIR)/debian/libreoffice-dmaths/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/DmathsAddon/Fichiers/licence.odt rm -f $(CURDIR)/debian/libreoffice-dmaths/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/DmathsAddon/Fichiers/license.txt The dmaths has a menu with an option to see the file DmathsAddon/Fichiers/licence.odt If it is deleted, an error occurs when accessing the file. I've added a line to delete the file license.txt to repackage the sources (see README.source) Ok. Please, add comments line in libreoffice-dmaths.lintian-overrides to explain each issue. I think you will need two lines. Ok. I will add this comment: #The licence.odt file is essential for dmaths: dmaths is broken without the file. #Image files can not be installed in another directory: dmaths does not support changes. I saw several Lintian messages in your last upload. A new Lintian was uploaded today to unstable. May it can help you too: http://eriberto.pro.br/blog/?p=1289 http://eriberto.pro.br/blog/?p=1289 Yes, I had not updated the pbuilder environment. I have fully reviewed the messages. Hi Eriberto, I've rebuilt the package. 1. d/compat: change to 9. OK 2. d/control: - Explain me why the package depends of writer and draw to work. Re: Re: dmaths: 3 months waiting sponsor
Hi Andreas, There seems to be a newer version available, 3.5.1.1 with some bug fixes, wouldn't it be nice to have those in Debian as well? Thanks, I had not seen this update In debian/rules you have some left-over boilerplate text that could be deleted. Lintian complains about: P: dmaths source: out-of-date-copyright-format-uri http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/dep/web/deps/dep5.mdwn?op=filerev=135 If your copyright file complies with the latest standard at http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/ you should change that line. Re: Aw: dmaths: 3 months waiting sponsor
Hi Steffen, Hello, I would be prepared to sponsor it, but from http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/dmaths I cannot see a compatibility with current versions of LibreOffice I think that this information is out of date. The dmaths 3.5.1.1 is compatible with OpenOffice 4.1 And isn't there a formula editor for libreoffice already? Yes, but dmaths does other things: allows you to draw geometric shapes. In addition, there are enough Debian package users (http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=dmaths) I have now updated the package to version 3.5.1.1 (and upload it to debian.mentors). Bye! I. Hi Bernhard The symbols file cannot be generated automatically as no computer program can decide what the contents should be. but in the compilation of the package (for example with pdebuild), a report of differences is generated if there are changes. Re: Re: RFS: dmaths
Hi Jakub, I finally found time to actually install the software and play a bit with it. I have to admit that I am deeply disappointed. I spent maybe 5 minutes and I saw: - tooltips in French; - tooltips in German; - dialog boxes in French; - *lots* of error messages in French; - an error box with no message at all (!); - unhandled exceptions in Basic code. (Mind you, I don't speak French or German and I've never configured my system or LibreOffice to use any of these languages. Yes, indeed in these areas leaves much to be desired...The aim of the package is to facilitate the writing of mathematical formulas and this works sufficiently well. The package has a group of followers [0]. I adopt this package when I was an orphan [1], then I discovered already critical errors [2] (although the package is in Debian since 2008). With the release of the stable version (Squezee) and the replacement Open Office to Libre Office, I've just inspected the package in depth. In these days I've been watching the package more carefully and there are some issues. The principal is if it's worth packing Libre Office extensions. This is not the kind of quality I expect from software that is in Debian. I am not willing to sponsor this package. Ok. Thank you for your time and your sincerity. I think about that I do with this package. Best regards! I. Hi Jakub! I have reviewed: no reference to them in macros files. I've deleted them (in the script for repackaging). Oh, I just realized that they were documentation files installed into /usr/share/doc/. Well, in that case maybe it's worth keeping them. Hi Jakub, Thanks, I like the new .orig.tar more. I do wonder however, what happened to debian/dmaths.patch. Good! This patch changes seem unnecessary: If not running, nothing happens. Re: RFS: dmaths
Hi Jakub, s/rule/rules/ in debian/changelog. I am sorry; I don't understand this phrase I have a feeling that the new description is not (much) better than the old one. Could you please ask at debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for a review? OK. I have sent a message to the list (http://lists.debian.org/debian-l10n-english/2012/01/msg00051.html). I have changed the description by the suggestion of Justin B Rye. What does dmaths.patch do? Could add a header to it, e.g. in DEP-3 format? You probably want to remove the “Binary files … differ” from the patch, as it obviously cannot be applied anyway. The patch removes a window from acceptance of license.I've added the header and remove the “Binary files … differ”. Why do you ignore errors from “rm -Rf tmp” in the clean target? I do not see this command errors. Do mistakes see you? Your copyright file seems to refer to files that don't exist in the source package. I have reviewed and have seen two directories that belonged bad writing. Have you ever seen something else? How was the tarball repackaged? There's no get-orig-source target in debian/rules, and there's no README.source either (please see Policy §4.14, point 4). OK. Added file README.source Lintian emits: P: dmaths source: unknown-copyright-format-uri http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/dep/web/deps/ dep5.mdwn?op=filerev=135 (Well, lintian probably should have emitted something else. But the URI _is_ broken, in at least two meanings of this word. :P) OK. Fixed. It also emits tons of image-file-in-usr-lib. Is that really unfixable? Honestly, not what is. I think that not because of the operation of the .oxt files. I've watched the OpenOffice documentation but nothing found. I are some tests to check whether it is possible. Why are windows-thumbnail-database-in-package overridden? There are several Thumbs.db files into icons directories in the sources. It will be better to remove them from the sources? Thank you very much for your thorough review of the package. The revised package is now in debian.mentors http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/dmaths/dmaths_3.4.2 +dfsg1-1.dsc Regards! I. Re: Sponsored packages are not automatically deleted from debian.metors
Hi everyon, I have received a response from AT suport debian.mentors.org (Christoph Haas): I've seen that does not automatically remove the sponsored packages from debian.metors. Before, the package are removed when the package is uploaded. My last two packages (http://packages.qa.debian.org/q/qdacco.html and http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/dacco.html) have not been eliminated. Is this a change or may be a mistake? Thanks for the hint. I didn't even notice that. Apparently the recent upgrade of the mentors.debian.net server from Lenny to Squeeze updated the Python version and caused in breakage in a script. Re: dacco and qdacco packages waiting sponsor
Hi Michael, [...] The question is: how do you generate these files with c++ tags? Is it possible to automatically generate the files? [...] Yes, that can be done almost fully automatically. The main step is piping the current symbols file through c++filt, as in cat qdacco-0.8.2/debian/libqdaccolib0.7.symbols | c++filt then make sure you keep the first line of your current file. The final step is only text mangling: add (c++) in front of each symbol and enclose each symbol in double quotes (as you've taken a look at diagnostics already, you can pick up the exact positioning of all this from there). Thank you very much for the explanation: things always seem more difficult than they are I have created the new file symbols: the new file is attached to the email. If the file is now correct, then you can review the new version of the package in debian.mentors ( http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/q/qdacco). Do you know any document that spells out the use of tags in the symbols file ? I want more information on the subject. Thank you very much for your help. Regards! I. De Marchi

Hi Michael, Hi! These packages are waiting for a sponsor: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/q/qdacco and http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/dacco. This is a Catalan-English dictionary and a query GUI. [...] I've just uploaded dacco, looks good. Thank you very much! For qdacco, however, I get an FTBFS because of an outdated symbols file. Yes, I supposed this would happen: the symbols file is a few months Looking at the diff, this is quite likely caused by name mangling changes in GCC. I'd suggest moving to c++ tags, as supported by recent dpkg-gensymbols, which permit to use human readable signatures. If I thought there would be problems according to the architecture but found no information. I have found your package libdiagnostics0: I looked at the files libdiagnostics0.symbols, libdiagnostics0.symbols.optional and libdiagnostics0.symbols.stacktrace. The question is: how do you generate these files with c++ tags? Is it possible to automatically generate the files? Please let me know if you need any help with those. Yes, please: is the first time I do this! Regards! I. De Marchi

Re: RFS: Several packages waiting sponsor
Hi! Ok, but I'd still like to see that merged into one patch and preferably add a nice header. Currently the fix-de-po-corrections.patch has a note refering to the bug id and the auto generated debian-changes-0.19.7-1 has the full default header with the complete changelog. My compromise would be to have both changes auto-generated in one patch by dpkg. I'm not sure you understand. I've changed the header file patch following this guidelines http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/ Beside that quilt is the tool of choice to edit such things. You just have to set QUILT_PATCHES=debian/patches. Yes, of course. I have this configuration. The debian/copyright format was ok, I just wanted you to note that most of the files in the m4 directory have a copyright by the FSF. And there are other files aswell with different copyright holders. OK. I have added more references to licenses: I think now they are all. Please don't alter the original released tar file from your upstream. Just rename it. If this was an oversight, sorry! Thank you very much for your explanations, I have been very helpful. Re: RFS: Several packages waiting sponsor
Hi Sven! Thank you very much for your attention! - Three orphaned packages: and gentoo (http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gentoo). Had a short look at this one aswell. - There are now two patch files with de.po fixes, I'd like to see them consolidated to one file and passed on to the upstream dev if that hasn't already happened. The de.po is partially resolved in the new version. I have adapted this patch (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=314096) to the new version. I have already sent the patch to the upstream author. - Why did you add the .desktop file via a patch? I usually just add them to the /debian/ dir and install them from there. OK.I did not know you can do this. Solved. - IMO the debian/copyright file still needs some polish. If you egrep -ri for 'copyright' you'll find some parts from the FSF and Drepper. Yo he cambiado un poco el archivo. Espero que este mejor. - The path to the icon listed in the menu file misses a leading / OK. Solved (...works well without the initial / !). Please rename the icon to something speaking for itself - icon_iconify.xpm is awful. Is the original file name of the upstream author. I've changed the name on the back. I have updated the package now in mentors. Regards! I. De Marchi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Re: RFS: fldiff (ITA package)
Hi! Tanks for your interest. - Your orig.tar.gz file seems to differ from the one in unstable. You should use the same one ; if you need to make changes affecting the upstream part of your package (ie everything except debian/*), this should be done separately. As you are using the 3.0 (quilt) format, this should be recorded under debian/patches. Yes, I know. I've tested to improve the package. I put the original source package. - I believe that debian/rules can be simplified a lot if you use the 'dh $@' technique. I look at this: I know this technique. Regards! I. Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package glpeces. * Package name: glpeces Version : 4.0-1 Upstream Author : Innocent De Marchi tangram.pe...@gmail.com * URL : http://www.mallorcaweb.net/tangrampeces/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/pecesjocdetangr/ * License : GLP Section : games It builds these binary packages: glpeces- Peces (Tangram game) The package appears to be lintian clean. The upload would fix these bugs: 502229 I am the autor of the program. Peces is an open source game based on the Chinese game called Tangram. The main objective of the game is to create different figures by putting together pieces like squares, triangles, rectangles, and others. This simple yet challenging game has at least 33 gaming modes, 4 different difficulty levels and more 4600 shapes to solve. I think it is very suitable for children and young people but also for those who like puzzles. Also for schools. I think the program is the largest collection of tangram and figures currently available. The package can be found on mentors.debian.net (from 2009-12-03): - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/glpeces - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/glpeces/glpeces_4.0-1.dsc I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. Kind regards Innocent De Marchi
