Moreover, it is not possible to keep the current form by switch(,...). By the way, the on-line help does not know about switch, but describes instead an equivalent search, which is not recognized by the parser, however. In Print fields I get empty displays when using avg(_somefield) or qavg(_somefield), but curiously the latter version starts to work after issuing a few queries. I also tried to form expressions using foreach, but this command does not seem to be recognized by the parser. Finally, in exporting the built-in templates do not work, e.g. the example given in the Manual: grok -x phone html phone.html grok phone: failed to create HTML file It does work, however, by duplicating the built-in html into ~.grok/phone.tm/ I suspect that some of these problems might have to do with the lesstif1 implementation. Installed packages that grok depends on: ii lesstif1 0.89.4-3 OSF/Motif implementation released under LGPL ii libc6 2.1.3-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone ii xlib6g 3.3.6-10 shared libraries required by X clients I'm running Debian 2.2 under kernel 2.2.17 --- Received: (at 76362-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 May 2003 10:42:07 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 11 05:42:06 2003 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from bangpath.uucico.de [195.71.9.197] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 19EoHN-0005ax-00; Sun, 11 May 2003 05:42:05 -0500 Received: by bangpath.uucico.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id A447526BB4; Sun, 11 May 2003 12:42:04 +0200 (CEST) Received: by regression.cyrius.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 2A68923D48; Sun, 11 May 2003 20:41:47 +1000 (EST) Date: Sun, 11 May 2003 20:41:47 +1000 From: Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Removed Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-7.3 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_10,USER_AGENT_MUTT version=2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) This package has been removed from Debian unstable because it has been orphaned for a very long time and nobody adopted it. The description for rrlogind says it is needed for authentication to Road Runner, including in two areas of Ohio. I also know a former Road Runner network engineer, who recently explained the purposes behind the login system, and said that RR doesn't use the login system *anywhere* anymore. Having the program in the archive could confuse RR users in the area mentioned in its description, making them think they need it when it won't even work for them anymore. -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Kernel Version: Linux marvin 2.4.20-ac2 #1 Mon Dec 23 16:57:02 EST 2002 i586 unknown --- Received: (at 176782-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 May 2003 10:42:23 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 11 05:42:05 2003 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from bangpath.uucico.de [195.71.9.197] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 19EoHN-0005av-00; Sun, 11 May 2003 05:42:05 -0500 Received: by bangpath.uucico.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id 84BF226B2C; Sun, 11 May 2003 12:42:04 +0200 (CEST) Received: by regression.cyrius.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 9DA3323D4A; Sun, 11 May 2003 20:41:28 +1000 (EST) Date: Sun, 11 May 2003 20:41:27 +1000 From: Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Removed Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-7.3 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_01,USER_AGENT_MUTT version=2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) This package has been removed from Debian unstable because it has been orphaned for a very long time and nobody adopted it. It only needs to reference the basename (eg. pam_unix.so). This will ensure that the program continues to work even if the module location changes, since libpam itself will resolve the location. 2. it uses pam_pwdb.so instead of pam_unix.so: Under no circumstances should any program in Debian use the pam_pwdb.so module by default. Instead the pam_unix.so module should be used. Most programs with RedHat support/default files will reference pam_pwdb.so in their example files. Do not use this. ANALYSIS According to the author of Linuxconf, Jacques Gelinas [EMAIL PROTECTED], linuxconf picks the variable and uses it to format a path using snprintf. This works fine. In fact, the receiving buffer is PATH_MAX large so even a 1000 characters variable won't overflow it and even if this was the case, snprintf would do its work. Once the path is formatted, the corresponding file is opened. If the file do not exist, an error message is formatted in a string. This was the problem and sprintf was used instead of snprintf there. There are two fixes. One is to use snprintf to format error message at this place and the other is to look for appropriate length for this variable (max 5 characters) immediately when it is found. DETECTION This vulnerability affects any version of linuxconf (essentially 6 years worth of distributions) that is installed setuid root. Generally, the four ways in which this utility can be installed setuid are: 1.) Shipped by vendor (Red Hat does not ship linuxconf setuid, but Mandrake does as do other linux vendors) 2.) Installed by RPM from the main site (http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/linuxconf/) for each particular linux OS (installs setuid root by default) 3.) Installed by source code also from main site (http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/linuxconf/) but prompts for whether to install setuid root 4.) Installed in ways 1, 2, or 3 and manually set to setuid root by the user for added functionality. WORKAROUND Remove the setuid bit from the linuxconf binary: $ chmod u-s /bin/linuxconf VENDOR RESPONSE iDEFENSE immediately contacted Jacques Gelinas and he provided a source code patch. iDEFENSE verified that the vulnerability is mitigated in the newer distribution (1.28r4) of linuxconf. An updated version (1.28r4) of linuxconf which addresses this vulnerability will be available on August 28, 2002 at http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/linuxconf/ . Affected Linux vendors will make updates available August 28th, 2002. DISCLOSURE TIMELINE August 9, 2002 - Exclusively disclosed to iDEFENSE August 19, 2002 - Disclosed to Vendor August 19, 2002 - Disclosed to iDEFENSE clients August 21, 2002 - Announcement to [EMAIL PROTECTED] August 28, 2002 - Coordinated public disclosure by Linux vendors, Linuxconf

A bug report for GNU Emacs with X selection (i.e., copypaste). My Environment - Debian GNU/Linux Sid (unstable, developing version) i386. - GNU libc 2.2.3 - XFree86 4.0.3 - GNU Emacs 20.7.2 What I do? 1. Invoked Emacs without -nw. 2. Type C-h H to display many languages on Emacs. 3. By drugging mouse with pushing left button, Choose three Japanese characters (Ni-Hon-Go) which mean Japanese language. 4. Go to Rxvt (compiled with multibyte language support) and push middle button of mouse, to paste the characters. 5. I found (BF|K\8lB is inserted instead of correct Japanese three characters. This is the bug. 6. Reproductivity: paste into Xedit (distributed with XFree86) results in beep and ILLEGAL SELECTION in Xedit window. Not only Japanese words but also Chinese (traditional and simplified), Korean, Russian, and Greek also fails. Analysis I inserted a hook code into XChangeProperty() of libX11 to report the content of data parameter. When I selected the three Japanese characters of Ni-Hon-Go and pasted it into Rxvt, the hook code reported (in hexadigimal) data=1b 24 28 42 46 7c 4b 5c 38 6c 1b 28 42 Since Rxvt requires selection in COMPOUND_TEXT format, this is a COMPOUND_TEXT byte sequence which Emacs generated. The first four bytes means designate JIS X 0208 into G0. Following six bytes are JIS X 0208 expression of Japanese three characters. The last three bytes means designate US ASCII into G0. Paste into Xedit, not Rxvt, made the same byte sequence. Rxvt receives the byte sequence using XmbTextPropertyToTextList() function. I checked the return value of the function and found it returns three. This means that XmbTextPropertyToTextList() failed to process the last three bytes. Then Rxvt thinks the selection byte sequence is illegal and falls into pasting the raw byte sequence. This is the cause of the bug behavior. I tested with many selections from Emacs and found that all non-ASCII and non-ISO-8859-1 selections have a final escape to designate ASCII in G0 and ISO-8859-1 in G1. Here, to fix this bug behavior, we can consider three ways. 1. Modify Emacs not to generate the final escape sequence. 2. Modify X11 library (XmbTextPropertyToTextList()) to ignore the final escape sequence. 3. Modify X clients (many!) to ignore positive return value of XmbTextPropertyToTextList(). I think 3 is bad beacuse positive return value may be caused by really illegal sequence. Then, which of 1 or 2? COMPOUND_TEXT is described in xc/doc/specs/CTEXT/CTEXT.txt in XFree86 (or X.org) distribution. Though it mentions the *initial* state, it doesn't mention about the final state. Thus, Emacs doesn't need to set the final state into ASCII + ISO8859-1. In conclusion, I think Emacs should be modified to fix this bug. --- Tomohiro KUBOTA [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.debian.or.jp/~kubota/ Introduction to I18N http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/intro-i18n/ --- Received: (at 101160-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 May 2003 10:41:57 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 11 05:41:56 2003 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from bangpath.uucico.de [195.71.9.197] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 19EoGg-0005NI-00;

In addition, I have tried to use linuxconf to configure other settings. linuxconf creates a file called conf.modules in /etc whereas what appears to be required by modprobe is modules.conf Once this file has been created by linuxconf, modprobe complains that the use of conf.modules has been depreciated. I presume that it means that this functionality has been replaced in recent revisions and that the filename has been changed around. removing this file and manually updating the details in /etc/network/interfaces the network card is now working properly and can connect to the LAN. It would be wise to use the first printer in printcap, or else the default_printer entry, just like lpr does.. 4) PPD files must end with .ppd. This is a useless requirement, in my opinion. 5) The most important of all: Apple laserwriter ppd files for LW640 and lw8500 are not parsed at all: a --show all outputs nothing. I just want to add a comment on the above mentioned package, which I got from ftp.de.debian.org (out of hamm/hamm) belonging to the future-to-be Debian 2-release. This looks like a nice text editor to me, but unfortunately I am missing some help how to set up this thing. When installing the package with dpkg, no man-pages were included. The example-file is not commented, just a line-up of things and the help included in xcoral itself is not much of a help when it comes to setting up this soft. I would really like to use it under x but I am no programmer or informatics student, so I am really dependend on some kind of additional information.
