Re: Debian installer stops before it is finished

2001-01-08 Thread Daegyu Kim
Hi, It is a problem (probably) the most commonly ancountered. The
problem is due to X setting which is done differently from the hardware
that you have.

You need to have detailed spec information especially about horizontal
and vertical frequency of your monitor and name of the chipset on your
video card.

Alternatively, I would try to configure X using XF86Setup after
installing debian without configuring X.

Good luck.

Hello
Mutt and kmail2.
Mutt I use to send quick mails, and quickly sort through
new emails. I save ones I need to think about and usually
use kmail2 sometime later to respond etc.
90% of my mail I deal with directly through "mutt".
I cannot stress how good mutt is :)

OK.. thanks for pointing me there.

so on a debian potata box would i need to recompile the kernel? or could i

#apt-get install kernel-patch-2.2.10-raid
#apt-get install raidtools2

and then use the raidtools?

www.debian.org package lists makes no use of RAID1 which is the level i'd want
to go for...

Debian installer stops before it is finished

2001-01-08 Thread sg . au
Hi. I've been trying to install Debian, but have been unsuccessful. I've
started over maybe five times (I've lost count). Before last time, the
installation was trying to switch to graphics mode but it said the window
server (or manager, I don't remember) wasn't responding or something (I
neglected to record the error messages). It kept repeating itself, I started
over again.

This last time, it says that some of the packages could not be installed and
asks if I want to try again. I say yes, then it says scanning packages, then
goes to a login prompt. I log in, then I'm in bash. The installation appears to
have stopped. It gave an error message during this attempt which stated:

"Errors were encountered while processing:
 gmc
 rstart
 rstartd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Some errors occurred while unpacking. I'm going to configure the
packages that were installed. This may result in duplicate errors
or errors caused by missing dependencies. This is OK, only the errors
above this message are important. Please fix them and run [I]nstall again
Press enter to continue"

The installer gave the above message on the install attempt prior to the last
one also.

I typed startx but it said I have to have screen type vga16 or mono in
XF86Config, I tried to modify it, but honestly, I don't know what I'm doing, as
the only systems I've used are MS (DOS or Windows). When the installer asks
questions or gives messages I don't have a clue as to what it's talking about
half the time.

What do I do now? Is there any way to resume installation where I left off, or
must I start over again? Each time I start over, I start at the very beginning
by deleting all partitions of the HDD and recreating them to be sure any mess
left on the drive during an aborted installation attempt is cleaned up.

Anyone have any advice on how to minimise installation problems or make the
process go smoother? I've spent several hours trying to install it, and I'm
starting to believe that installing Debian (or any distribution of Linux) on my
system is futile.

In case anyone needs to know in order to help, my hardware stats are:

processor: Evergreen upgrade processor, Intel compatible equivalent to 486DX-133
RAM: 36 MB
HDD: 6.4 GB
chipset: Chips
primary BIOS: AST BIOS rel 2.03 1994
secondary BIOS: SIIG enhanced BIOS (LBA, for HDD up to 8.4 GB; resides on an
add-in EIDE controller card)
*all HDD partitions are Linux ext2
video: Cirrus Logic GD-54XX, 1 MB VRAM
CD-ROM: ATAPI IDE

Thank you,
Brad

ssh problem (woody)

2001-01-08 Thread sena
Hello...

After doing an upgrade just now, the new version of ssh (& sshd) is
OpenSSH_2.3.0p1.

Before the upgrade (done with apt-get), ssh service was working fine. Now,
it's not working.

I can still login to other machines, but when trying to login here, I get a
"Permission denied, please try again." error after entering the password. I
don't know if this happens when using keys to authenticate.

auth.log shows this:
Jan 9 05:22:32 decoy sshd[6756]: Failed password for sena from 1.2.3.4
port 1023
Jan 9 05:22:36 decoy last message repeated 2 times
Jan 9 05:22:36 decoy sshd[6756]: Connection closed by 1.2.3.4
Jan 9 05:22:36 decoy sshd[6756]: Cannot close PAM session[4]: System
error

The last line appears any time that I try to login.

These lines appear when the server is started:
Jan 9 05:24:35 decoy sshd[6774]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.
Jan 9 05:24:35 decoy sshd[6774]: Generating 768 bit RSA key.
Jan 9 05:24:36 decoy sshd[6774]: RSA key generation complete.

So, no error here.

And when the server is stopped:
Jan 9 05:25:48 decoy sshd[6774]: Received signal 15; terminating.

No error either.

Anyone has a clue?

TIA, sena...

I did this a couple of weeks ago on a Dell Optiplex under Debian
2.2r2.
Like you, I downloaded the agpgart driver from the Intel site and
compiled it locally.

I didn't use XFree version 4, just the 3.3.6 which comes with Debian.

It all works nicely. I didn't use the XF86Setup program, though, I
just hand-edited XF86Config. I'll gladly send you the config file, but
maybe it's crucial at your site that the XF86Setup program work in the
way you describe?

there's several things to resolve, and probably a few more that
are beyond my awareness -- but here's what i'd look for:

1) modconf -> ipv4 -> select and install ip-masq modules that
look like they'd help with what you're after.

2) apt-get install ipmasq ... it'll take much of the worry and
sweat out of configuring your firewall rules.

3) keep reading and soon someone will continue this thread
showing where i'm all wet.

wow. i guess this is cut & pasted from some translation
software... :)

hope i read your post correctly -- here goes:

with the debian "apt-get" command you can install packages
from your CD or directly from a local file:/ directory or
through the internet via http:// or ftp:// protocols.

the command "apt-setup" will start you off; if you have the
standard CD roms, you can start from there.

one of the nice things about APT-GET is that it will resolve the
dependencies automatically.

for more details, see

I found the problem. It seems that the drive I was using was "compatible" but
had to be inisialised by the DOS driver before it would work under Linux.
However, I borrowed a CD drive from another computer that Linux supports
directly and had no problems with it (the original drive was malfunctioning
anyway).

OK i've built a server to run a Linux/Apache/Mysql/PHP setup on.

It works pretty well and we're happy with it. But i've statred hearing about
Software RAID. Our budget won't run to SCSI or a RAID controller.

But we could stick in a second HD on the other IDE controller.

Would this be worthwhile? How hard is it to set up a software raid? what do I
do? does it matter that i want the whole OS as well as the data storage
mirrored?

I'm willing to take a speed hit in order to pick up a good fault-tolerance.

Thanks in advance.. John

be sure nothing else is using the mouse?
e.g. gpm or something ..i suggest running
lsof to see if anything is using the device
before doing startx. if there is stop the

i use pine and netscape mostly ..i tried to use mutt but the mutt in
potato
doesn't have SSL support so for remote mail servers i use netscape.

i have a mirror of pine 4.something for potato if your interested,
apparently you can't re distribute it unless you have a "L in the
filename or something..someone else did the work but i keep it
around on my server because i build new machines often and usually
need to re download it :)

you can find it at http://portal.aphroland.org/debian/ i have
not used them all that much but they seem to work. of course
YMMV. use at your own risk, and all the other standard
disclaimers apply.

maybe there will be a non-us or non-free version of mutt with
ssl sometime in a future _STABLE_ debian release.(note pine
has no ssl support either incase your wondering)

Hpmh. Email can take rather arbitrarily long to get from point a to
point b (of course this is less true than it used to be..). I'm writing
this on a net-disconnected laptop; the mail may not leave my laptop's
queue until as late as sometime tomrrow morning when it automatically
powers itself on and sends out queued mail over the network card I will
hopefully remember to put in the laptop tonight.

The moral is, if you're going to flame someone for being redundant, look
at their message's Date header first.

course not :) what makes you stand out is if
you know the talk...and know the systems, and
are eager to learn. of course another requirement
is being in the right location(geographical). you gotta be hard
core to stand out(like me :) ). be willing to work
long hours, have a flexible schedule and be able to
work with multiple flavors of linux(i have worked
with about 10-15). references and job experience
are important too. education, at least in my case
has not been an issue i don't even list education
on my resume and don't really talk about it(people
never ask me anyways). my job is system/network
admin currently for a tier 2 linux company
(at least according to LWN.net's stock index).
started there in september, before that i worked
for a big name free internet service provider that
went down the tubes. provided knowledgable people
interview you(note - don't be afraid of headhunters
or contractors, for some reason many people don't
like them), and you know how to respond(don't lie)
then your in ..

my salary has doubled in less then a year and could
easily double again if i decided to persue other
job offerings ...its crazy, blows me away what
kind of demand there is for linux and unix people
out there. i don't have plans to leave the current
company i'm with, i have a lot of fun and the
learning curve is great, exposure to many
different unix platforms and i have a lot of
influence on the company as a whole which is
more important to me then more $$ at a bigger
company.

hope this helps ..don't mean to sound too
excited but i can't help it :) having a job
with linux/unix just plain RULES! i can't
remember the last time i had a headache.

This is wrong.

If the major version number of the library has increased, then this
means that the libraries are (read: should be)
incompatible. Otherwise, the same version would be used and this extra
symlink would not be required.

Yes, it might work, but why not just down-load the correct library

I'd recomend Storm Linux (http://www.stormix.com). It's a great distribution
based on Debian, with all the packages compatible. The instalation is even
simpler than Mandrake or RedHat, and the plug-and-pray device configuration

dazed and confused - pop3 port

2001-01-08 Thread Matt Chipman
Hello list

currently i have a nice setup of debian potatoe and trying to add exim as a
mail server. I want to check my mail with outlook express/pegasus/whatever
via the pop3 port from the windows boxes

Initially i had this setup under Red hat and sendmail (before i saw the
light and was converted)

Under redhat inetd.conf are the lines:
smtp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/sendmail etc etc
pop-3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd/pop3d

Under debian i have :
smtpstream tcp nowait mail/usr/sbin/exim exim -bs

i added
pop3stream tcp nowait mail/usr/sbin/tcpd ipop3d

thinking along the lines of the redhat box, ..but she no work :( The
port is now open (i can telnet to it ) but exim doesnt reply.

my question is ...
how do i activate the pop3 port so i can check my email like i used to do on
the redhat box? I know of Qpopper but i (mistakenly?) dont think i need it.

anyway if someone could explain to me why debian doesnt have this port in
the inetd.conf file (there must be a valid reason) and why i should or
should not use Qpopper or like product, because clearly i don't understand
the correlation between exim, pop3 and qpopper and i would like to! :-)

thanks

Matt

IP spoofing protection

2001-01-08 Thread Carel Fellinger
I sent the following to debian-firewall, but noone reacted, so I try here.

=

Hai and a jolly new year,

I'm in the process of switching from pmfirewall to ipmasq. I've read
a lot, and now I'm confused:)

I thought rp_filter was supposed to prevent ip spoofing, but ipmasq
still adds rules like:

   ipchains -A input -j DENY -i ! lo -s 127.0.0.1/255.0.0.0 -l
   ipchains -A input -j DENY -i ! eth1 -s 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 -l

Am I correct in assuming this is only done to get the logging?

The second point of confusion is here:

   ipchains -A output -j DENY -i ! eth1 -d 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 -l

Is this just the routing being checked by ipchains rules? Am I correct
in assuming this would be useless on a well configured machine?

Yeah, check out 'man exports'. The file you want is /etc/exports(which

Whether you can cut&paste or not is not the point that bothers me,
it's the fact that on the console all of a sudden a mouse click can
provoke some action! That somehow feels unsafe to me. When you're
like me used to use mouse-clicks for cut and paste in text (whether on
a console or in a xterm or in some text-window) then it's horrifying
to realise that some programs on a mere upgrade suddenly might start
to react differently in this respect. And then you'll have to
remember *which* programs do so, yack.

I think you need to change the MAIL_DIR or MAIL_FILE in /etc/logins.defs

Yes, see my other reply.

You could put "alias mutt='mutt -f inbox'" in your .bashrc, or better
yet put

set spoolfile = "~/myinbox"

in your .muttrc file.

dirt-level networking

2001-01-08 Thread tom
Hey All,

First, can someone point me to somewhere other than the
ethernet or network howto for info on setting up a home network?

I have two boxes, one nic for each, and a crossover cable. plus
a dialup modem in one. eventually I'd like my cheapie computer
(a bargain 486)
to be a firewall, but just want to mess with networking the two
first.

one box has an isa card, the other a pci, but they're both
ne2000 compatable (pnp, unfortunately).

Once I get the two connected, I'm gonna move my modem to the
486. Am I gonna have to jump thru too many hoops to switch to a
dsl modem later? (I'll have to add another nic??)

you have been messing with the standard debian user/group files:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] eb]$ grep 42 /usr/share/base-passwd/group.master
shadow:*:42:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] eb]$

passwd is probably using the hard coded gid for the shadow group
instead of the name and ensuring the shadow files have the proper
permissions. in debian uid/gid 0-99 are reserved for debian use, you
should not alter any existing groups here (you may add users to them
of course, just don't do things like changing gid=42 from shadow to
ppp) also do not allocate your own system users/groups in the 0-99
range or else they may collide with future debian system accounts.

look at /usr/share/base-passwd/*.master and make sure your passwd
files are consistent, resolve any conflicts by relocating your
accounts/groups to higher uid/gid ranges.

also check debian-policy (/usr/share/doc/debian-policy) for
information about other reserved uids/gids. basically it goes like
this:

* 0-99: debian reserved
* 100-999: reserved for dynamically allocated users/groups. you may
use this space for your own system users/groups.
* 1000-29000: used for dynamically allocated standard user
accounts, this is what uids your users should get.
* 3-5: reserved.
* 6-64999: statically allocated centrally for debian use, unlike
the 0-99 range they are not created by default on all debian systems,
but all debian systems that have them created will have the same
uid/gids. the qmail user accounts are allocated here.
* 65000-65533: reserved.
* 65534: user nobody, group nogroup.
* 65535: (uid_t)(-1) == (gid_t)(-1). NOT TO BE USED, because it is the
  error return sentinel value.

Mgetty-fax: Receiving multiple pages.

2001-01-08 Thread Paul Schulz
Greetings,

I managed to set up the mgetty and mgetty-fax packages, at it is both
sending and receiving faxes straight out of the install..

1. Install packages

2. To receive faxes, enable mgetty in '/etc/inittab' on the serial
line that the faxmodem is attached to..

Sending faxes is with 'faxspool' with 'runfaxq' to send faxes on the
queue.

Now.. I received a multiple pages fax, but can only see the first page..

  1. mgetty-fax emails me the fax as a '.png' attachment
  2. I extract it using 'metamail -w' (need to edit it first though,
 which is a problem.)

This only gives me the first page.

I would like to know what other people are using, and if they're happy
with their system. I just know my boss will be asking for a web based
front end to this.

Paul

Just name it on the commandline:

$ mutt -f ~/mail/inbox

And if that file is part of mutt's default mail folder (normally
called ~/Mail) then this can be simplified to:

$ mutt -f=inbox

Re: Java jdk1.3 on Potato

2001-01-08 Thread D-Man

Do you have the file "libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2" ? (the number at the
end is important?

If not, you could try creating a symlink to the C++ lib you have
but it probably won't run properly (most likely will be binary
incompatible).

Another solution is to build the jdk against the lib you have (but you
don't have the jdk sources, right?)

The only other way I can think of would be to rebuild libstdc++ to the
correct version or find an already-compiled binary compatible version.

You may want to try some open source solutions like gcj and kaffe.
gcj can compile to Java bytecode or native machine code. Kaffe can
compile to bytecode and also interprets bytecode. (the 2 are supposed
to work together well). I had a (very) small threading project once
that I used gcj, kaffe, and Sun's jdk to test. (both on my machine
and the Solaris systems in the lab).

Is there an easy way to get back from unstable to testing?

2001-01-08 Thread Stephen Rueger
Hello!

I made a silly mistake and did an apt-get upgrade and forgot that my
sources.list was pointing to unstable instead of testing. Then I made
a even more silly mistake and didn't looked at what apt-get was
doing. So now I have an testing/unstable-installation that is really
unstable (e.g. fetchmail stops because of a segmentation fault).

I tried to find a way to downgrade back to only testing, but the only
way I found would be to remove all packages not needed to install
other packages and then doing a nearly complete reinstall.
apt-get --reinstall doesn't work in this case because I have to
replace packages with older versions of it.

Can someone give me a hint how I can do this with less work of my own?

Thanks!

Stephen Rueger

Re: Java jdk1.3 on Potato

2001-01-08 Thread Rick
I got it from sun and it works dandy. it looks like you are missing some
libraries. Try installing libstdc++2.10-dev and libc6-dev and any other
-dev files you may find a debian.org in the stable packages development
section.

[mc]: Help reproducing a bug

2001-01-08 Thread Martin Bialasinski
Hi,

I have a bugreport stating

mc segfaults when a shell command that was started inside mc fails,
e.g. because it is not found, it is interrupted, or it
crashes. This error only occurs since a few weeks on my system and
therefore might be related to kernel-2.4 or recent library updates
  in Debian unstable.

[ this doesn't happen everytime a command fails ]

I never had such a thing, nor did I hear about this prior to this
report.

Does someone else have this problem?

Thanks for your help,
Martin

PS: Günter, maybe you could recompile the package with -ggdb so we can
get a backtrace from the coredump?

You can set the system inbox (spoolfile) in the muttrc file. It's called
"spoolfile" :

set spoolfile = /home/myself/mail/inbox

If it is a one time thing, mutt -f path/to/my/folder will open up any
given folder.

bad problem with pppd

2001-01-08 Thread Davide Cavallari

I've never had problems with pppd, but now I can't log into the Net anymore!
I have not changed my conf files.
The first time I execute pppd, I get the connection, but the modem hangs
in 3 seconds 8^( and this happens with every provider I have tried.
The second time I try, I get this message on the terminal:

Mon Jan 8 18:49:06 $ /usr/sbin/pppd -detach connect "/usr/sbin/chat -V -f
/etc/ppp/interfree.chat"

OK
ala alanamalat, 06 Jan 2001 19:49:51 +0100
ERRORConnect script failed

The third time is as the first one and the forth is as the second and so on!
The message is strange, isn't it? It reports a date: 6 jan 2001, 19:49:51
I wasn't online at that time, but the problem began the next time I tried
to connect...before that date all was ok!

I have recompiled the kernel, reinstalled the ppp packet, but no results...
What do you think?

I have a generic 56k modem and this is the file /etc/ppp/option I use:

mailers I've tried). It has very nice mailing list support as well
(including sort by threads).

For other people, check the "X-Mailer" and "User-Agent" headers on
their messages. (not all messages have such a header though).

pine lives in the nonfree because they aren't allowed to distribute
modified source code. So they distribute pine and a cool wrapper dealie
that does it on your box. Personally, I use mutt at home...it is very nice
and it is configurable to use pine-like keybindings so your fingers don't
freak out on you. It is also super for reading happy mailing list for this
one cuz everything is threaded right there for you, unless you don't want
it to be. Check out mutt.org for dotfiles and lists and stuff.

Pine is included as pine4-src and pine4-diffs, because you aren't
allowed to distribute modified pine-binaries and the originals won't
fit the Debian policies (AFAIK where pine stores it's
config-files). But you can download the original binaries from
www.washington.edu/pine, they work fine.

But give mutt a try. It's hard to configure, but it's worth the
effort, because it's much better than any other mailclient I ever
used. A few weeks ago I used also pine, but mutt is better. The most
important feature from mutt is, that it can handle threads like a
newsreader, so that it is much easier to handle mailinglists.

Just don't get afraid of the configuration and read carefully whatever
you can find about it! There are tons of features you'll never want to
miss again!

Have a nice time

Some time ago I saw on freshmeat.net a package for running linux

PPP in that it provided an IP protocol and address to the linux machine
tunneled over the closed AOL dialup protocol.

Yes, as long as the Packages.gz file in
/win/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz lists all those files with paths in
the Filename: fields that are correct relative to /win. That's all that
matters.

Incidentally, I still don't think 'deb file:/win/ main' is the
sources.list entry you want. Read the man page carefully. For reference,
the only file entry I have in sources.list is 'deb file:/usr/src/debian
unstable main non-free', which finds Packages.gz files in
/usr/src/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz and
/usr/src/debian/dists/unstable/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz. (So I
think one of the suggestions I gave you earlier was wrong - I forgot
about dists/ - but look in the bits of the man page that suggest using a
distribution ending with a slash, or else move your archive around to
match mine.

mid-install problem: after reboot inetd problem

2001-01-08 Thread Cameron Jordan
I've tried to install Debian 2.2 from cd on two different machines (a
Cyrix 250 with 128mb ram and a p133 with 80mb ram) and I've got the same
problem both times. After installing the base system (installing
kernel, choosing modules, configuring network, etc.) and the installer
says to reboot, after rebooting (either from hard drive or custom
floppy) the kernel starts up fine but then once INIT switches to
runlevel 2 then inetd tries to start up and I get the following:

/bin/sh: /sbin/termwrap: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: exec: /sbin/termwrap: cannot execute: No such file or
directory
(i get that several times then)
INIT: Id 1 Respawning too fast: Disabled for 5 minutes

The boot-up never gets past this point so i'm not sure how to take care
of this problem and continue with the installation.

I'm still new to Linux, I've succesfully installed Redhat 6.2 and
Mandrake 7.1 but I wanted to try Debian and have hit this brick wall.
I've scoured mailing lists and web sites trying to find help on this but
with no luck.

Any help including just pointing me in the right direction will be
greatly appreciated.

You need to remove the second colon from this line. It tells
procmail to use a lock and since you don't provide a name, it
try to determine the name of the lock from the name of the
mailbox and it fails cause of the pipe.

So you should have :

If you can convince upstream (the mc2-devel@nuclecu.unam.mx) or make

I can't really judge if this is a good thing or not. I will only
change mc's behaviour in a incompatible way (different mouse handling)
to its prior version for compelling reasons.

2001-01-08 Thread Ernest Tucker
I was reading the incmpatibility list and saw that the mwave card needs
to have it firmware loaded before it will work. Does anyone know if
this card has drivers that work if it the firmware is loaded and what it
takes to load it.

I am planning on procuring Debian 2.2 and loading it on my Aptiva and
can live without the modem and sound but it would be fun to have it.

Question: Xfree 4 and startx

2001-01-08 Thread Romain Lerallut
I have installed Xfree 4.0.2 by downloading and dpkg-ing the following
.debs, from The Pool:

libfreetype6_2.0.1-1.debxserver-common_4.0.2-1_i386.deb
xbase-clients_4.0.2-1_i386.deb xserver-xfree86_4.0.2-1_i386.deb
xfree86-common_4.0.2-1_all.deb xlibs_4.0.2-1_i386.deb

no problem: "XFree86" runs and shows me a gray screen w/ pointer, I can
start enlightenment over it, etc...

BUT xinit -verbose (resp startx -verbose) show they still call X 3.3.6
!! Who of course is very unhappy, and so are gdm, xdm, etc...

What I did was a symlink from /usr/bin/X11R6/X to XFree86 and now all
works fine (startx, gdm, etc),
but I was wondering what I did wrong to get such a bizarre behavior of
X.
I thought the install would have taken care of that!

BTW the patch for Nvidia drivers and kernel 2.4.0 is out:
http://www.linuxgames.com/news/followupgen.php3?news_id=3656

I can now go to bed and feel happy to have X working, with the
accelerated driver :-)

Good Night to you all
Romain

Re: DSL vs. cable and LAN options

2001-01-08 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi, here is another ATT customer with ATT Cable connected to Debian.

I run auth, telnet(Dahh), sshd, exim, httpd accessible from most net but
all other ports are blocked by ipchains. If you are worried about
ATT scanning, use your providers ip range to block access to open ports.

Just plug NNTP ports when you install. See log and find out these authorized
portscan. Then block those 2 IPs.

Unless you run seruoisly high trafficking web server or something,
cable company has no time to police you. You should be more concered
about script kiddy running portscan on your machine.

Remember that ATT say you can not use your conection to serve
outside of your property but according to the contract it is OK to
have masq box. If you talk to CS of ATT, they say differently,
but CONTRACT is THE ONLY thing it conts in this contry.

Good luck.

Osamu

Re: Trouble Setting Up DSL

2001-01-08 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi,

Did you check network configuration by "ifconfig" on Linux? Is it up?
Also "route -n"? Can you ping 127.0.0.1? "lsmod"?...

Also check your service is PPoE or not as previous poster? Debian, I think,
had package for PPoE. Check it out. (This is suspisious one)

Good luck.

sed is it! Thanks to John <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Michal
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, und eechi von akusyumi
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for the replies. Now my problem is how to
make sed recurse through directories. I managed to chain commands

Can anybody comment on this little script? This appears to work, but
may be inefficient. And it's one step removed from what I want,
recursive processing. That is, to have sed process files in
subdirectories of the current directory. I prefer something that can
receive its input from find:

find . -name *.txt

That was

They do a debian distro variation for $25, looks interesting, here's a paste
from their 'support' page, where the 'debian users' are mentioned.

Well, 'free' with registration.

This is America, nothing's 'actually' free as such, just a well cherished
concept.
