El servidor NAMED se me para.

2001-03-23 Thread Jorge Gil Torres

He revisado los logs (messages, daemon.log y

0=/usr/bin/X11/X +xinerama vt7

PCI: Failed to allocate resource 0 for PCI device 13d1:ab02
got res[1080:108003ff] for resource 1 of PCI device 13d1:ab02

PCI: Enabling device 02:00.0 ( - 0003)
PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin A of device 02:00.0
-

correcto

en el lilo le puse
-
append=pci=biosirq

[S]elect e [I]nstall.

boot=/dev/hda
compact
vga=ext
prompt
timeout=300

image=/vmlinuz
root=/dev/hda2
label=linux
read-only

other=/dev/hda1
label=win

man apt-get
man dselect
/usr/share/doc/apt/guide.html/index.html

  awk '{ if (match($0,/[0-9]+/)) { print substr($0,RSTART,RLENGTH)} }'

'setxkbmap dvorak' not working

2001-03-23 Thread Adrian Kubala
I run unstable;

I've seen a few debian-related docs which imply that 'setxkbmap dvorak' and
'setxkbmap us' should work, but both give me an 'Error loading new keyboard
description.'

A search for dvorak keymaps for x turns up one in the gnome-applets package,
and one in the kbd package, neither of which look like they'll make setxkbd
work. I'd like to use setxkbd rather than xmodmap and some file I dig up
somewhere, or at least know why I can't.

Is this an unstable-broken thing? (I didn't see any files that looked useful
in stable though). Anybody know how to set up dvorak 'properly' in debian?

FWIW, I use xmodmap. In fact, I'm the only one using my system, so I
munged the gdm init files to run xmodmap during startup; I used to run
it in .xinitrc.

If you decide to give up on that other command, my xmodmap for Dvorak

This is generally a sign of broken dependencies or a corrupted package
archive. Yes, if you commit this, you may have to reinstall a
substantial list of packages. Better to find out what's wrong first.

In the first case, try re-running apt-get update to update your package
list(s).   This may resolve dependencies.

In the second case, you can find backup archives as
/var/backups/kpkg.status*. Check to see if one of these might serve to
replace what you have under /var/lib/dpkg/status.

You can also check with dselect or (far preferable) aptitude to see what
packages are conflicting.

Debian packages for PLplot 5.0.2 available

2001-03-23 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Debian packages for the latest stable release of PLplot (5.0.2) are
available.

The packages work for the Debian potato distribution (2.2). They are
available in both the Debian unstable repository and the apt-getable
location in the PLplot web site.

To upgrade your packages, just add the following lines to your
/etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/debian ./
deb-src http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/debian ./

then run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade (or apt-get dist-upgrade
if you are upgrading from the 4.99j packages).

There are many improvements from version 5.0.1 to 5.0.2, see the
announcement at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/plplot. The plplot-doc
package contains the full documentation that is now managed with DocBook.
You will find there the PLplot manual in the following formats: html, pdf,
ps, and info. The html on-line manual is registered with doc-base, so you
can easily access it by pointing your browser at http://localhost/dc
(supposing that doc-central is installed) and going to section Apps/Math.

Also, the plplot-dev package contains man pages for all the PLplot functions
in the public API.

As usual, report any bugs using the Debian BTS (Bug Tracking System,
http://bugs.debian.org), the more convinient way beeing through the command
reportbug (available in the Debian package with the same name).

Debianly yours,

It works in tetex-bin 1.0.7-1 and above; you can just use xdvi on
compressed files directly. Unfortunately there were bugs in the xdvi
that was about to make it into potato and decompression support had to
be temporarily removed.

I guess you could try taking just the /usr/X11R6/bin/xdvi from the
tetex-bin package in unstable (you can extract packages manually with
dpkg-deb -x, see the man page), putting that in /usr/local/bin, and
seeing if that works.

Newer versions of xdvi have automatic gzip decompression. As it's part
of tetex-bin, I don't know how difficult it would be to get the newer
builds working on a potato box.

However, there are still a couple of problems.

1. I am not getting sound from the TV chanel while it's runing. Sound seems to
work
for everything else I have tried (festival, and playing a CDTOM, Realplayer).
What can I do find out why this is not working? I did check with tkmixer, and
the

3. Also the video fram seems to be shifted up about 1/3 of a frame. That is I
see
the image starting about 1/3 of the frame with the top 1/3 showing on the
bottom of
th eframe.

Whats do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks for the help geting this going!

Works great now after many reinstalls. I have a Supra

pppconfig I used the 115200 setting. With that
setting I was getting time outs a lot with apt-get. I
was advised to change it to 57600 (on other distro
that I have used I never had to change it from 115200)
and that decreased the number of timeouts greatly, but
using Netscape I have noticed that the downloads
speeds are at 300 to 500 bytes and sometimes faster
and it stalls a lot. Has anyone else had this
problem, and how did you resolve it? Has anyone ever
changed the mtu and the mtr to 1472 in the
/etc/ppp/options? Would that help?
Any help would be appreciated.

Potato-Compact doesn't install on Compaq Smart-2SL Array

2001-03-23 Thread Andreas.Trawoger

Hi!

I'm having problems to install Debian 2.2 on a Compaq ProLiant 3000 with Smart-2SL Array. Debian detects the Smart Controller, but seams to be unable to access the Array (I'm getting a 'No hard disk could be found' error when I'm trying add a Partition to the drive). Suse 6.4 was running fine on the machine, but I added an additional disk and wanted to give Debian a try.

My configuration is as following:
Compaq Proliant 3000
Compaq Smart-2SL Raid Controller
4*4,3 GB SCSI Disks

I have used the Compaq Smart Start CD to configure a RAID-5 Array including all four disks.

Booting with Compact Install Kernel is giving me the following messages:
Compaq SMART2 Driver (v 1.0.10)
cpqarray: finding drives on ida0(SMART-2SL)
cpqarray: ida/c0d0: blksz=512 nr_blks=25149120

Which leaves me wondering why the Debian Install program can't access the Array. Any help would be appreciated.

OpenSSH 2.5.2p2 grief

Hello everybody,

The problem is as follows: I installed on both openssh 2.5.2p2 (via

without a hitch and has been doing so for about a month now. On the
second, all messages are identical to the first... but it fails to

Failed password etc in auth.log. I have been trying to figure out

This is just a guess, but I saw something similar yesterday after
pulling a bad mouse driver from Windows. After the requisite reboot,
Win95 started, then hung. After a reset, Win95 started up okay. The only
thing I can figure is that Windows saw the new mouse/driver, and tried
to do some configuration which created a hang situation. After the
reset, Windows figured the mouse was properly configured and went on in
normally.

All this to say, perhaps your Win95 is seeing a new (ext2) partition,
and trying to figure out what to do about it? I'm not sure what your
next step would be, but perhaps this'll give you a new idea to persue.
(Like, maybe, Debian is running isapnp and reconfiguring some hardware?)

You can specify the runlevel to boot after the kernel image. So, for
example, at the LILO prompt (hopefully the prompt is enabled in the
lilo.conf - Does BTW anybody know, why it's disabled in the default
lilo.conf (in Potato)?): LILO: name 1.
Which should boot into Single user mode. You could also specify
something like init=/bin/bash, which would directly start a shell.
