pb firewire kernel 2.6.25
¿Ahora tienes tiempo libre? ¡Ayuda a traducir Debian!
-- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

dvd and cd burning and ripping

2.6.25 kernel on D820

project: wired/wireless router
I have a mini case with a VIA motherboard and CPU. It has an on-board ethernet port. I'd like to use it as a Linux firewall/NAT router to replace the (wired only) LinkSys I have now. It only has one PCI slot, but I want to be able to provide both wired and wireless LAN access. I'm looking for both hardware suggestions (i.e. a PCI card with both wired and wireless ethernet that is supported by the kernel in stable) and configuration help. My requirements are: 1) Wireless is an independent subnet from the wired, and is firewalled from the wired LAN in the same way as the outside world. 2) Several open ports forwarded to not necessarily the same port on a machine on the wired LAN (e.g. ports 80, 22, 443). 3) WPA encryption on wireless. 4) UPNP support (wired and wireless). 5) NAT/DHCP support (wired and wireless). 6) Prioritize all wired traffic over wireless. 7) Prioritize all SIP (VoIP) traffic (via wired) over everything else. Basically, I want my VoIP line to get the best bandwidth available on the external connection, wired to get priority over wireless, and wireless to be firewalled from the external interface (no forwarded ports at all, except UPNP), but wired firewalled from both wireless and external interfaces (with some forwarded ports). I don't feel the need to run my own DNS, though, just routing. --Greg -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, Is it a known bug? How could I work it around? though i can use amsn instead, but i prefered pidgin. sorry I cannot really help you, but aMSN (in etch) doesn't work, either since some days. In the aMSN forum I read that it's not a server issue but an issue of aMSN itself. Anyhow, something must have changed because some days ago it did work. The latest SVN version of aMSN should work, but I didn't try it. So installing aMSN from debian might not fix your problem. Hope this will be fixed in the etch-package soon. Maybe someone can make a bugreport, I don't know how/where, and the gnome built-in bug reporting tool is buggy itself for me. Maybe you can find a working pidgin or more infos on the pidgin website. This the part of installation dialog with the messages. // No kernel modules were found. This probably is due to a mismatch between the kernel used by this version of the installer and the kernel version available in the archive. If you're installing from a mirror, you can work around this problem by choosing to install a different version of Debian. The install will probably fail to work if you continue without kernel modules. Continue the install without loading kernel modules? Go Back Yes No //- The web log I have: Jun 28 13:57:00 anna[936]: WARNING **: no packages for kernel in archive Have anybody ever had this problem or have any idea ??? Re: Advice for troubleshooting X (total screen loss) -- Newb Alert
Thanks for the help so far, everyone. I have retried using both of the generic drivers. Now I'm getting a fatal server error -- no screens found. Still not working, but at least it's enough to start me on further research. The monitor in question is an Acer 22 lcd, if anyone out there has any experience with these. Can you post your xorg.conf and the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log? As requested I have attached my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files. I'm attaching the conf and log files which occurred using the nv driver, although I get the same results (near as I can tell) when using the vga driver. You can also see that I've disabled glx output and restricted screen resolution to 1024x768 or lower (non-widescreen resolutions) in the hope that this might help, but no luck so far. To keep the message length down I have attached these files instead of copied the text. Hope this doesn't violate any mailing list etiquette rules. Haven't gotten the box to recognize the monitor yet, although I did manage to get the mouse configured correctly thanks to mdetect. Is it unusual to have to require root privileges to open /dev/psaux ? I couldn't cat that device file on my usual login, and mdetect could not discover it without being run as root. It is even quite uncommon in non-geek environments. Are the most desktop and devics (Game Consoles, DVR, etc) users by default able to play Ogg Theora? Probably not. But by default you can't play many formats on most Windows machines anyway. I advise Windows users to install VLC every time they have trouble playing videos. Maybe not the answer that you were looking for. But seeing what your requirements are, I'd simply add a two or four port ethernet card to the case and plug a wireless bridge into one of the ports. This would be a hassle free setup and give you all the options you need without having to hunt down that probably rare or non existent card with both wireless and wired. This would also give you the future proof posibility to add another wireless bridge when a new and better standard is hitting the market. (I love to have both 802.11b and 802.11n bridges on my network, so I can have the 802.11n bridge running at its fastest setting). I had done something similar with my monowall firewall running on a PC Engines WRAP board. Adding a mini-PCI wireless card, with its associated cables and antennas, would have been a big expense. It was much cheaper to pick up a used Linksys WRT54G ($20 from Craigslist) and use it as a dedicated wireless AP. You can also use the the remaining 3 ethernet ports as you would a regular switch for the wired devices on your LAN. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Open Source Video Codec and Container (alternative to Xvid)
Simon Jolle sjolle: It means AVI is the best choice for out-of-the-box playing on all platforms and devices? AVI is only a container for audio and video content. It can contain video encoded in many formats (MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264 etc). Just because a player knows the container format doesn't mean it can decode the content. BTW, AVI is obsolete. MP4 (a container format defined in the MPEG4 standard) appears to become the new standard. So what you're aiming for is to find the right combination of container, video codec and audio codec. My suggestion would be to use H.264 video and AAC audio in an MP4 container. If you choose the right settings, these files should be playable on video iPods and PS3s (and any computer with current software). BTW, I convert FLV to AVI with this command line: ffmpeg -i filename.flv -sameq filename.avi This converts to MPEG4 (ffmpeg's default choice, at least on my system) in an AVI container which is a bad combination: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVI#Continued_use J. -- I cannot comprehend the idea of chemical and biological weapons. I ve found the next link http://www.hoernerfranzracing.de/kde/ldap.html?PHPSESSID=512fcd85b4816ca869bcb3c8ab2d35e5that explains it. the strange thing is that names in hebrew are deleated from the kaddressbook file. --- Jabka Atu ===--- bsh83.blogspot.com ---=== Encryption is a way of life ===---

Not strictly an answer to your question, but the Linux Emporium sell a proper hardware modem in a PCMCIA card, which should work with most laptops I'd guess.
