Is there some other package, (term config?) that configures this? reason is: when I localy start a terminal, it recoginzes it is in an X enviroment and sets the PROMPT_COMMAND. but remote he doesn not, because there is not X enviroment. therefore there is no hardstat line. for having a prompt (%h) all the time, you need to insert this (or similar, format up to you) line into the .bashrc for your user _AND_ all users you "su - " to. so eg root user. export PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne "[EMAIL PROTECTED]:${PWD/$HOME/~}\033\\"' -- [ Clemens Schwaighofer -=:~ ] [ TEQUILA\ Japan IT Group] [6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-8167, JAPAN ] [ Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 ] [ http://www.tequila.co.jp ] signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
screen with caption and missing %h (hardstatus) data
hi, I run several testing boxes and one unstable box. On all of them I use screen with a simple "caption" line where I want to use %h tag for getting the current hardstats ([EMAIL PROTECTED]:path). The strange thing is, except on one box (my main working box) this does not work. All of the screenrc files are as is from the screen package and all have exactly the same .screenrc in my user home, which has just one entry, the "caption" definition, which is the same everywhere. But all hosts have an empty %h, except mine. I really don't know why. Where do I have to look, or what do I have to check, to get this working? Is there some other package, (term config?) that configures this? -- [ Clemens Schwaighofer -=:~ ] [ TEQUILA\ Japan IT Group] [6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-8167, JAPAN ] [ Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 ] [ http://www.tequila.co.jp ] signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Actually I default set to bottom quoting, but _all_ of my managers asked me to change it back for them. I just got used to get a 25K mail where everything is quoted on the bottom and things are written on top. It makes no sense to quote it, nobody reads it, but still its done. I hate it, but lecturing them is just impossible. When I answer back, I delete all the crap, quote correctly, I haven't seen a single one change. I wished people would understand why in longer conversations top quoting just doesn't work. But well ... its just much easier to write one line above then to delete some from below. Plus most clients nowadays don't even strip of the signature, so you get that quoted too. Plus, for the supercool ones, they answer back in HTML mail and instead of 25K crap you get 3 or 4 times the size (or even more). -- [ Clemens Schwaighofer -=:~ ] [ TEQUILA\ Japan IT Engineer ] [6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0061, JAPAN ] [ Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 ] [ http://www.tequila.co.jphttp://www.tbwajapan.co.jp ] PGP.sig Description: This is a digitally signed message part
samba, set read-only attribut
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 hi, I have two debian boxes, one runs samba from unstable on ext3 the other one samba from testing on xfs. As a reference box, I have a gentoo/stable with xfs (my working box). I create a directory in my home directory from a XP Pro SP2 box and put a file inside. if I do this on the box with the ext3 filesystem I can set the attribute "read only". If I do the same on the boxes with the xfs system I get "Access denied". All those boxes have exactly the same basic setting (globals) and exactly the same home dir settings. if I set -w on the linux system itself, the windows sees it, but I am impossible to set the attribute from windows. missing files in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/
Hi, I am running various Debian boxes with testing and unstable. All have self compiled kernels. The testing have all 2.6.8.1 and the unstable 2.6.9-rc1-mm5 and 2.6.9-rc2-mm2. The problem is that on _all_ boxes I miss all the files in the /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/ directory. I am really puzzeld. Actually _all_ directories in the /sys/devices/system/ are missing any kind of information, that should be there. I attach the .config from one of the boxes. Perhaps I missed out one important setting. lg, clemens -- Clemens Schwaighofer - IT Engineer & System Administration == TEQUILA\Japan, 6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-8167, JAPAN Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 http://www.tequila.co.jp ==# # Automatically generated make config: don't edit # Linux kernel version: 2.6.9-rc1-mm5 # Tue Sep 14 09:44:37 2004 # CONFIG_X86=y CONFIG_MMU=y CONFIG_UID16=y CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA=y # # Code maturity level options # CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y CONFIG_CLEAN_COMPILE=y CONFIG_BROKEN_ON_SMP=y # # General setup # CONFIG_LOCALVERSION="" CONFIG_SWAP=y CONFIG_SYSVIPC=y CONFIG_POSIX_MQUEUE=y CONFIG_BSD_PROCESS_ACCT=y CONFIG_BSD_PROCESS_ACCT_V3=y CONFIG_SYSCTL=y CONFIG_AUDIT=y CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y CONFIG_LOG_BUF_SHIFT=14 CONFIG_HOTPLUG=y CONFIG_KOBJECT_UEVENT=y CONFIG_IKCONFIG=y CONFIG_IKCONFIG_PROC=y # CONFIG_EMBEDDED is not set CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y # CONFIG_KALLSYMS_ALL is not set # CONFIG_KALLSYMS_EXTRA_PASS is not set CONFIG_FUTEX=y CONFIG_EPOLL=y CONFIG_IOSCHED_NOOP=y CONFIG_IOSCHED_AS=y CONFIG_IOSCHED_DEADLINE=y CONFIG_IOSCHED_CFQ=y # CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE is not set CONFIG_SHMEM=y # CONFIG_TINY_SHMEM is not set # # Loadable module support # CONFIG_MODULES=y CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD=y CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD=y CONFIG_OBSOLETE_MODPARM=y # CONFIG_MODVERSIONS is not set CONFIG_KMOD=y # # Processor type and features # CONFIG_X86_PC=y # CONFIG_X86_ELAN is not set # CONFIG_X86_VOYAGER is not set # CONFIG_X86_NUMAQ is not set # CONFIG_X86_SUMMIT is not set # CONFIG_X86_BIGSMP is not set # CONFIG_X86_VISWS is not set # CONFIG_X86_GENERICARCH is not set # CONFIG_X86_ES7000 is not set # CONFIG_M386 is not set # CONFIG_M486 is not set # CONFIG_M586 is not set # CONFIG_M586TSC is not set # CONFIG_M586MMX is not set # CONFIG_M686 is not set # CONFIG_MPENTIUMII is not set # CONFIG_MPENTIUMIII is not set # CONFIG_MPENTIUMM is not set CONFIG_MPENTIUM4=y # CONFIG_MK6 is not set # CONFIG_MK7 is not set # CONFIG_MK8 is not set # CONFIG_MCRUSOE is not set # CONFIG_MWINCHIPC6 is not set # CONFIG_MWINCHIP2 is not set # CONFIG_MWINCHIP3D is not set # CONFIG_MCYRIXIII is not set # CONFIG_MVIAC3_2 is not set # CONFIG_X86_GENERIC is not set CONFIG_X86_CMPXCHG=y CONFIG_X86_XADD=y CONFIG_X86_L1_CACHE_SHIFT=7 CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM=y CONFIG_X86_WP_WORKS_OK=y CONFIG_X86_INVLPG=y CONFIG_X86_BSWAP=y CONFIG_X86_POPAD_OK=y CONFIG_X86_GOOD_APIC=y CONFIG_X86_INTEL_USERCOPY=y CONFIG_X86_USE_PPRO_CHECKSUM=y CONFIG_HPET_TIMER=y CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC=y # CONFIG_SMP is not set CONFIG_PREEMPT=y CONFIG_X86_UP_APIC=y CONFIG_X86_UP_IOAPIC=y CONFIG_X86_LOCAL_APIC=y CONFIG_X86_IO_APIC=y CONFIG_X86_TSC=y CONFIG_X86_MCE=y # CONFIG_X86_MCE_NONFATAL is not set # CONFIG_X86_MCE_P4THERMAL is not set # CONFIG_TOSHIBA is not set # CONFIG_I8K is not set CONFIG_MICROCODE=y CONFIG_X86_MSR=y CONFIG_X86_CPUID=y # # Firmware Drivers # # CONFIG_EDD is not set CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM=y # CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G is not set # CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G is not set CONFIG_MATH_EMULATION=y CONFIG_MTRR=y # CONFIG_EFI is not set CONFIG_HAVE_DEC_LOCK=y CONFIG_REGPARM=y # # Performance-monitoring counters support # CONFIG_PERFCTR=y CONFIG_PERFCTR_INIT_TESTS=y CONFIG_PERFCTR_VIRTUAL=y CONFIG_PERFCTR_INTERRUPT_SUPPORT=y # CONFIG_KEXEC is not set # # Power management options (ACPI, APM) # CONFIG_PM=y # CONFIG_PM_DEBUG is not set CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND=y CONFIG_PM_STD_PARTITION="/dev/hda2" # # ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Support # CONFIG_ACPI=y CONFIG_ACPI_BOOT=y CONFIG_ACPI_INTERPRETER=y CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP=y CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP_PROC_FS=y CONFIG_ACPI_AC=y CONFIG_ACPI_BATTERY=y CONFIG_ACPI_BUTTON=y CONFIG_ACPI_FAN=y CONFIG_ACPI_PROCESSOR=y CONFIG_ACPI_THERMAL=y # CONFIG_ACPI_ASUS is not set # CONFIG_ACPI_THINKPAD is not set # CONFIG_ACPI_TOSHIBA is not set CONFIG_ACPI_BLACKLIST_YEAR=0 # CONFIG_ACPI_DEBUG is not set CONFIG_ACPI_BUS=y CONFIG_ACPI_EC=y CONFIG_ACPI_POWER=y CONFIG_ACPI_PCI=y CONFIG_ACPI_SYSTEM=y # CONFIG_X86_PM_TIMER is not set # # APM (Advanced Power Management) BIOS Support # CONFIG_APM=y # CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPEND is not set # CONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE is not set CONFIG_APM_CPU_IDLE=y # CONFIG_APM_DISPLAY_BLANK is not set CONFIG_APM_RTC_IS_GMT=y # CONFIG_APM_ALLOW_INTS is not set # CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF is not set # # CPU Frequency scaling # # CO

gkrellmss and alsa
Hi, I have Debian/Unstable installed with 2.6.8.1-mm4. I user alsa with the a special .asoundrc (attached). I have now installed gkrellm & gkrellmss. The problem is, that when I click on the sound scope part I get this error message: Can't open ALSA monitoring. Look for an "ALSA lib" console error message. my problem is that I tried to find some logs or places where I could find that error message. Sadly I had no luck. Does anybody know what kind of problem that could be? -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Yesterday I ugraded 4.3, and actually I didn't except any problems because I had several other distributions running it without problem, but ... Well, in basic, everything is fine, except that DRI doesn't work. XFree says its enabled, but glxinfo AND the visual test (any gl screensaver, or glxgears, etc) show that it is not so. DRI works perfectly on: Gentoo Xfree 4.3 Slackware XFree 4.3 Knoppix (3.3) Xfree 4.3 [yeah that is debian all right] I atteched my glxinfo (verbose, where you see the error why the dri is not loaded) and my XFree log. gkrellm and missing x dependencies
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I had a bare debian box without any x libraries. I wanted to install gkrellm and xforward it to another box. so I did an apt-get install gkrellm and turned on the X11Forward in sshd and logged into the box with ssh -X box ... BUT I just got an error that he can't open the display. The reason was, he couldn't create the .Xauthority file because xauth was not there. so I had to manually install xbase-clients. I have a running 2.6.0/alsa, but with gentoo and a ES1988 Allegro-1 soundcard. Any kind of tips, helps are appriciated. - -- Clemens Schwaighofer - IT Engineer & System Administration == Tequila Japan, 6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-8167, JAPAN Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 http://www.tequila.jp == - -- Clemens Schwaighofer - IT Engineer & System Administration == Tequila Japan, 6-17-2 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-8167, JAPAN Tel: +81-(0)3-3545-7703Fax: +81-(0)3-3545-7343 http://www.tequila.jp == -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/4XaijBz/yQjBxz8RApAMAKDenAeYmjKuM4RZiuC628sErVq/bgCg5yPx vMqFe9bavoM3TbG2h4dGhso= =ztSM -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
