Before buying a scanner, you should have checked whether it is

ijsgutenprint - inkjet server - Ghostscript driver for Gutenprint

foomatic-filters-ppds - OpenPrinting printer support - prebuilt PPD files

My guess would be ijsgutenprint.

Well, I don't use gutenprint, but I do own that printer... and I do use
CUPS.

For me, the current HPLIP and CUPS packages on Sid are working
perfectly. If you install these packages using 'aptitude', you will get
all of the stuff you need for that printer automatically:

cups
cups-bsd
hplip
hplip-gui
hpijs-ppds

I also recommend

hplip-doc

You should delete any attempts you have made to configure the DeskJet
6122 using CUPS, then configure it using HPLIP. It will automatically
find the proper PPD file ('hp-deskjet_6122-hpijs.ppd', from the
'hpijs-ppds' package) if you do things this way. (If you don't, you
deserve whatever problems result! ;-)

problema resolvido.

Usando o cups? Quais pacote você tem instalado?
Uso essa impressora. Existem instruções para a
 instalação dela em http://www.linuxprinting.org/,
 é só procurar.

Pode também instalar alguns pacotes foomatic,
para fazer a instalação via interface web. Mas
 segundo a descrição do pacote:

...you have a lot of disk space to spare and/or
using the CUPS or PPR web interface...

 'aptitude install foomatic-filters-ppds hpijs' deve
 instalar todos os pacotes necessários.

Hello. I just changed to Windows Me and now I can't add my printer because since I've moved from Washington to Texas, I can't find my disc. To be honest, I didn't know you needed the disc to re-connect the printer (PC dummy me). What do I need to do now?
The model number of my printer is 4562C, (695C/697C).

Please help. Thank you,

If you have set up hotplug correctly, you can check the syslog to see
if the printer is being picked up.

In a console, F1-F6, run this
tail -f /var/log/syslog

watch the output as you plug/unplug the usb cable to the printer. If
you have it set up correctly you will see something like this: NOTE

Yes. LOL. I'm not a complete newbie to computing, just to Linux and
Debian.

One of the first things I suspected was that usb had failed at the
hardware level, but the khubd process would load with usb enabled in
the BIOS and wouldn't when it usb was disabled in BIOS. So this was one
of the first things I looked at.

 Salut,

After doing an apt-get install cupsys cupsys-bsd cupsys-client have
you tried going to http://localhost:631 in your browser and configuring
the printer from there? (You'll need hpijs installed as well, of
course.)

That was what I had to do to get my HP OfficeJet G85 working properly.

Have you tried setting it up via your webrowser:

You should then be able to set it up. However, you may also need to

Puis :

chmod a+r /usr/share/cups/model/ton_fichier.ppd
killall -HUP cupsd

Habe jetzt folgendes gemacht:
Drucker und LPD-O-Matic (also Cups) erzeugen lassen.

MFG:HEWLETT-PACKARD;MDL:DESKJET

845C;SERN:CN1A91B2VSSX;VSTATUS:$HB0$FC0,ff,DN,OFFF,CUT;VP:0800,FL,B0;

I used lprngtool (1.1.1-6) and lprng (3.8.10-1) and their

Yes, I have one, works well with the dj690c filter. However, I used
to have two filters for that one installed (the other one being
dj550c) -- just until now! Once my friend I share the flat with (and
that printer on our small network) discovered it won't print plain
text. With the other filter we could print plain text as well.
Since we also have a Laserjet III, I didn't bother much -- but now
in reply to your answer I've checked the magicfilters. Compare the
last lines of /etc/magicfilter/dj550c-filter and dj690c-filter:
you'll see the 690 uses djscript for plain text while the other
doesn't -- and it wasn't installed. :)
You can experiment with different filters, more will work. Since I
print mostly .dvi and .ps files, I've found out that prints with the
dj690c filter were better aligned.

ps: Works with lpr(ng)

If you wish to use magicfilter: choose the hp550 filter. It works fine.

Or you can use lprngtool, and set your printcap up with that. It also
work fine. Just switched to using lprngtool a week ago with the same
printer. Used magicfilter before.

Hi Björn,

I got it with apsfilter (IIRC the driver for HP DJ 670). Far better, though not
free software, is turboprint (http://www.turboprint.de). With this, the printer
works even much better than in windoze.

Yep, it works quite well with CUPS and the cupsomatic-ppd package.
The only problem is a little clipping on the left margin. I haven't

Partly yes. Web-based administration. Partly, because it was a driver
issue and CUPS can use gimp-print drivers. I don't know if lpr/lprng
can, but I know CUPS does.

 Hello people !

I have a problem printing plain ASCII text to my printer:
at the end of the printing job, the continue button is
blinking, as long as I don't hit it.

I am using apsfilter CVS version, and I have set up RECODE
 options as follows:
 RAW_PROLOGUE='\033k2G\033l2E\033a2L\033(s1Q'
 RAW_EPILOGUE='\033l1H'
meaning that these escape codes are sent to the printer
before and after the file to be printed.

 I've tried to replace \033l1H by \014 in RAW_EPILOGUE,
but it does not change anything.

You might try
   \033l0H#eject page
(esc el zero H)
or
\033E\033%-12345X# printer reset and universal language exit

Thanks for your help and advices !

I saw this same problem with an HP 855Cse printer earlier this week. I
experimentally discovered that the print job would print and complete normally
if the text file ended with a form feed (ctrl-L).

Later I fixed my problem for good by choosing a better magicfilter printer
driver. The 855Cse was not directly supported so I was guessing at similar
drivers.

Please tell me it is well supported by magic filter.

If this deskjet is supported by the 550c driver, then it is surely
better supported by the HPLJ driver. This filter comes standard with the
Alladin ghostscript package in the non-free department of Slink. I use this
for my HP640? deskjet. However, I could not find a magicfilter filter for
this driver I modified an existing filter for my purposes.

I use an HP Deskjet 890c, and haven't had any problems. I've been using
 the
550c print filter, which tends to go a bit heavy on the ink, and the
 color
quality isn't great, but I hardly ever print color. I think there is a
 filter
out there specifically for the 8xx series, but I've lost the url and
 haven't
gotten around to digging it up again.

I'll just paste this back in (and I've deleted the original query):

I use one or two extra options with my 895c, but also run it through
lpr/magic-filter so you'll have to extract the parameters from my
gs-aladdin filter file:

# PostScript

0 %! filter /usr/bin/gs -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE \
-r300 -sDEVICE=hpdj -sModel=unspec -sColorMode=CMYK -sMediaType=plain \
-sPrintQuality=draft -sOutputFile=\|cat 13 - 31 12

0 \004%! filter /usr/bin/gs -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE \
-r300 -sDEVICE=hpdj -sModel=unspec -sColorMode=CMYK -sMediaType=plain \
-sPrintQuality=draft -sOutputFile=\|cat 13 - 31 12

# PDF

0 %PDFfpipe /usr/bin/gs -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE \
-r300 -sDEVICE=hpdj -sModel=unspec -sColorMode=CMYK -sMediaType=plain\
 -sPrintQuality=draft -sOutputFile=\|cat 13 $FILE 31 12

I find the dj550c filter suggested earlier is far too inky. Change
draft to normal or best (and set up two queues) if you find draft
is *too* light. The last saves a lot of ink, though.

(One day I'll sit down and try to parse all that output redirection!)

Cheers,

I am attaching next an old message that will help you:

Hi,

Checking your printcap-file is the first thing.
For HP540 you should install the gs-alladin package and get the tar from
ftp://ftp.sbs.de/pub/graphics/ghostscript/pcl3 named hpdj-xxx-tar.gz. In there
is a
good
filter file, which brings best results with Hp-printers (didnt have a better
output
since
then).
I installed it myself this week, because I had problems with my HP600.

Now, that the way, your /etc/printcap-file should be:
lp|dj540|dj540:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj540:\
:sh:pw#80:pl#72:px#1440:mx#0:\
:if=/etc/printfilter/if-hpdj-dj540:\
:af=/var/log/lp-acct:lf=/var/log/lp-errs:

The file /etc/printfilter/if-hpdj-dj540 is actually the filter-file I got out
of the
hpdj-xxx-tar.gz
package (just moved and renamed it).
With this, qou can setup a printer for draft, normal and presentation quality,
just by

changing the defaults in the filter file (the easiest way).

Regards,
KD

I have been recommended this printer (HP dj 695c). However, the vendor
does not know about linux support. He claims that it is the same
printer as the 690C (which is listed as supported ing the linux hardware
howto), just with a restyled casing. Does anyone know if this printer
 will work with debian?
