That'll get sorted out when a release is published, but thanks for

I suspect this is mostly because debian-installer riscv64 support hasn't
been uploaded to unstable yet, so it isn't on
https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-riscv64/ or
https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/installer-riscv64/.
I'm not sure what the plan for that is; somebody on debian-boot@
probably knows.

Once that's done, riscv64 will need to be added to the
devel-images-arches tag (and I suppose also trixie-images-arches) in
webwml:english/template/debian/installer.wml.

I have Debian 12.5 (i.e. current as of June 2024) but I have the intel driver
installed. When I try to use apt to install the modesetting driver, I get a
redirect to xserver-xorg-core and the result that everything is already
up-to-date.

Has the modesetting driver been withdrawn and superseded by the original
drivers? Does the wiki need an update?

Regards,

Debian tickets are not the right means to discuss wiki articles. Therefore
I am closing this ticket.

Instead you can use f.ex. Debian's IRC [1] channel to do that or you can
use one of the Debian Users mailing lists [2].

If you want to fix an article or discuss variants of ways of how to do
things, then you can make yourself a wiki account and discuss the issue
directly in the article. Even better, you can check the history of the
article and you can try to ask the people that wrote the passages that you
want to discuss directly.

Also note that people can watch articles and if they do then they will
get notified of your edits and if the watchers think there's a problem
with the edits they still can correct them.

Greetings and thanks for contributing!

Error parsing /devel/website/stats folders in check_trans.pl (was: Re: website check_trans.pl cronjob for Italian not running)

going on?

Thank you,

I have checked that the cron jobs for check_trans.pl in www-master are
still scheduled.

I have run it manually (the "daily" version) and found several
errors/warnings:

---

count_changes() ERROR: commit rev2 HEAD not found in revisions of

Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at
/srv/www.debian.org/webwml/Perl/Local/VCS_git.pm line 559.

---

but the script goes on and seems to finish without any more errors.

I'll try to fix these errors (not sure if they are the cause of the
issues).

I have reduced the errors of the check_trans.pl script to:

Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at
/srv/www.debian.org/webwml/Perl/Local/VCS_git.pm line 559.

This indeed seems to be the cause of the script not sending mails; I
have run in www-master a manual check for Spanish with -g option (that
would output the mails to the screen instead of sending them) and after
the error no output is shown, but if I add a -s subfolder option I have
tried with several subfolders and mails would be sent, except for the
"devel" folder. I have narrowed the issue to the /devel/website/stats
folder, adding it to the global .transignore file avoids the error so
the script can continue (at least for Spanish) until the step of sending
mails.

I guess the issue was introduced around mid-November when the generation
of those pages (website stats) was changed/simplified, and the
check_trans.pl script tries to get the diff of the VCS revisions and
fails because those files have no commit history.

I am not sure about the best way of solving this, several options come
to mind:

1.- Ideally we should update /Perl/Local/VCS_git.pm line 559 and
sorroundings adding code to avoid the use of undefined value, but that
Perl Module is used in a lot of other places/scripts and I'm not a Perl
expert so I fear to break other things. CC'ing Steve McIntyre because he
did the invaluable task of porting that code in the CVS->git migration
for the case he can help (but first look at the other options I see,
maybe they are better than this).

2.- Adding some more code to the check_trans.pl file around Line 184:

    # Global .transignore
    my $transignore = Webwml::TransIgnore->new($VCS->get_topdir());

to add "/devel/website/stats" to the list of the $transignore variable
(in addition to what it gets from the global .transignore file in webwml
top folder).

I don't know how to do this either, but if nobody steps ahead and this
is the preferred solution, I can try to figure out :-)

3.- Just add /devel/website/stats to the global webwml/.transignore file
so it's taken into account by the script (as I have done temporarily in
www-master to do the tests (changes undone)). I don't know what it would
mean for the rest of translation scripts (I guess it should be safe
because the files under /devel/website/stats are generated and
translation of those strings depends on the stats.$ll.po files and those
files are in $ll/po folder so their status is taken into account. But
CC'ing Thomas Lange who did the last important research on the
transignore files for the case he can help).

4.- Any other?

If there is not resolution of this issue in several days, I will open a
bug report with the status quo so it does not get forgotten.

Kind regards

I have reviewed my mail and IRC logs to know if something happened

I have also changed my settings in

mails daily, and will keep an eye on this.

Note: supposedly I had to receive mails monthly and I have checked and
my last mail related to this script is from October (2023-10-20).

Bug#1074497: wiki.debian.org: NVIDIA Optimus: Still necessary to avoid the intel Xorg driver?

2024-06-29 Thread Scott MacKenzie
Package: wiki.debian.org
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: larri...@inbox.lv

Dear Maintainer,

'.. Also make sure that the outdated xserver-xorg-video-intel package is not
installed. The "modesetting" xorg driver has superseded it and will be used in
this configuration.'

Regards,
Scott.

Debian Wiki Experiment

2024-06-28 Thread Arthur Diniz
Dear www team,

Recently I've been experimenting with new wiki open-source softwares
to propose a migration to Debian Wiki.

I know there is an in progress transition to MoinMoin newest version
but I would like to come with another alternative as well.

For that I would need a copy of all content from the current Debian
wiki to validate and test how the pages will look like during my
experiments.

Is there any way to get a list of all pages or an actual dump from the
pages content folder from the instance that is hosting it?

My plan is to have something solid to present to www and Debian contributors.

Kind regards,
Arthur Diniz

Bug#1074176: packages.debian.org: allow seeing files

2024-06-24 Thread Dan Jacobson
Thanks. But: The older page needs to mention the newer page, else
people who end up on the older page will think that that is all they are
allowed to see.
In fact the older page should use the links from the newer page, to make its
flat list clickable.
Also both pages don't have any file dates. That is mainly why the reader came
there,
to see how old the files are. Sure, there is a VERSION file, but no date on it
either.
Anyway: so the entire website needs to use ls -og to show the dates.
Yes, "dates aren't reliable", but no dates are worse.

Dear Maintainer,

The translations of https://www.debian.org/intro/organization.html have the
following untranslated sentence:

"Debian is a member of the following organizations, either directly or through
SPI."

This is due to the fact that that sentence is part of the file
english/intro/organization.data instead of english/intro/organization.wml.

This problem could be solved by moving that specific sentence to
english/intro/organization.wml and by splitting up
english/intro/organization.data in two parts. A part 1 that gets included by a
line
#include "$(ENGLISHDIR)/intro/organization-part1.data"
that comes in english/intro/organization.wmljust before the line
"Debian is a member of the following organizations, either directly or through
SPI."
and a part 2 that gets included by a line
#include "$(ENGLISHDIR)/intro/organization-part2.data"
that has to be placed just after the forementioned line.

Kindly,
Frans Spiesschaert

Upcoming oldstable point release (11.10)

Hi,

The next point release for "bullseye" (11.10) is scheduled for Saturday,

This will be the penultimate release for this suite. The final point
release is anticipated in approximately two months time, after which
"bullseye" will adopted by the LTS team.

Been seeing the same on and off recently, including from a couple hours ago to

Similarly, packages site requests that are served by www.debian.org

Firefox tells me that for the [0] and [2] cases it's using the CSAIL mirror

2024-06-06 Thread mehturt
Recently the site packages.debian.org gives me HTTP error 503 so I'm not able
to view packages or search in the packages.

The initial site https://www.debian.org/distrib/packages works most of the
time, but when I click e.g. "View the packages in the stable distribution" I
get 503. Any idea about that?

Hi,

Please check https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=646897

qcad is not distributable and therefore can not be downloaded from
snapshot.d.o.

This is why you see the http 403.

The bottom of snapshot.debian.org website says: "Please report bugs against the

As far as I know the master branch is the shared code between
packages.debian.org
and packages.ubuntu.com.

This is just another indication that packages.debian.org is undermaintained.
Seriously, how can I join the team force in making changes to
packages.debian.org?
I have been looking for a solution since I became a Debian Developer (which is
2017).

* The latest pending issue that I care is
https://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2023/12/msg00029.html , and it is still not
solved yet.

* And the continuous 503 Service Unavailable error, which lasted for more than
several months
and indicates a broken backend instance, is also not resolved:

I switched my browser to use dark theme and access packages.debian.org with it.

To see a just red favicon just like the one of www.debian.org or wiki.debian.org

Hello all

A lot of links have been updated already (thanks!) but we still have in
the website links pointing to alioth.debian.org or its aliases.

I'm attaching several lists of links that we should update at some time.

Notes:
* Most of them are in news items from the past.

* For source code repositories, some of them are migrated to salsa but
the format of the URLs is different (so you need to find in salsa the
item we're linking to, and then update the whole URL with the URL of the
new link).

* The repos that were not migrated to salsa are now in
https://alioth-archive.debian.org/ but in .tar.xz format, so similar
situation.

* Some web pages that were in the sites with URL type
http[s]://some-project.alioth.debian.org/ are now in Salsa pages (under
pages.debian.net) but we cannot tell exactly where. Hints: look at the
source code repo of the corresponding team, or ask the corresponding team

* For very old stuff that was not migrated and is definitely gone
(because in alioth-archive there are only repositories), we can choose
between linking to archive.org (if exists archive of those pages) or
delete the link (and maybe add a note about dead link? a note will need
translations, though).

* The attached lists are from the /english folder. If something is
changed there, translations should be updated as well. The script
smartchange.pl may help on that, but note that its behavior is now
different than what we had with CVS (call it with -h to see the help
message).
* I suggest to start with the obvious updates, and leave the ones that
is not clear how to update them to the end, posting here in this bug
report the suggestions.

Interested people willing to help even more with broken links can also
have a look at:

https://www-master.debian.org/build-logs/urlcheck/

Hello,

whenever I want to use pseudoheaders in bug interaction I find myself
missing a reference documentation of them, stating what they do, their
exact syntax, and which are accepted by which part of the BTS.

For example, can I use Version when I mail to -d...@bugs.debian.org?
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#closing says that I can, but
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting#pseudoheader does not mention it.

Can I use Control: when I mail n...@bugs.debian.org?
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting#control it documents in which
address it can be used, and I find it very useful.

Can I use Tags: when I mail n...@bugs.debian.org? I cannot find a
mention of it, and I do not know where to look.

Most times I want to interact with the BTS and Do Things Right The First
Time, I end up asking such questions to #debian-devel and feeling
frustrated for the need of asking such apparent trivialities.

I wish there was a coincise reference to them: it would help me greatly.

Thank you,

Enrico

Dear all

In bug #911605 it was suggested that maybe our setup should be public
and versioned.

I think it's a good idea. Not sure if I can put time on this in the
short term, so for now I'm filing the bug. Maybe other people can
comment and/or act on it. I have no clear proposal in my mind, I'm all
ears :-)

Some of the places to look at:

www-master.debian.org:/srv/www.debian.org/mail/.mailfilter

https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/cgi/tree/master/cgi-bin

and of course the places in webwml repo where those addresses are mentioned.

Last week, during the MiniConf in Barcelona, the issue of newcomers being lost
arised a few times. There are numerous efforts underway to attract new
contributors, but it seems we're falling short at retaining some of them when
they first approach the project.

The "Help Debian" webpage is a place where many potential contributors will try
to find a way to help, but it has many issues.

First of all, it is badly organised and not very attractive to read.

I think it should be structured in a different way. I think a good idea would
be to spli the tasks in different levels of difficulty, separating technical
and non-technical, etc.

Also, point no 7 is ridiculous: are we actually suggesting a newbie to
bootstrap a port?? That definitely needs to be removed :)

Thanks.

Out of curiosity in response to various DPL inquiries about "how can I help
Debian?", I've reviewed a bit the various pieces of documentation on the
subject and compared it with what other distros do. A remarkable difference
seems to be a "per-profile" organization of the available material,
i.e. organizing the "how to contribute" page with a top-level distinction
among, say: developers, translators, bug triager, artists, donors, etc.

I believe there is some value in such a distinction, simply because the users
interested into helping out usually knows pretty well what they are able and
willing to do. I hence suggest to reorganize the content of
http://www.debian.org/intro/help according to the various profiles.

Just for reference, here a few links to what others (random sampling, not
necessarily representative) have been doing in that respect:

- Fedora: http://fedoraproject.org/en/join-fedora (scrolling a bit down)
- Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/community
- OpenSUSE: http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:How_to_participate

Thanks a lot for maintaining www.d.o,
Cheers.

I like to clean up /intro/organization, esp. remove some content.
We have to much content on this page, much old and outdated
content. We could move some content to other pages.

My suggestion is:

- remove item Development Projects
- remove item Individual Packages — @packages.debian.org ,
since the page it links to will be removed
- remove the whole Ports — GNU/Linux section. These are only links to
  mailing list.
- maybe move the mailing list under User support to /support
- Debian women lists some members that left the Debian project years
ago. ping someone to update the members list.
- remove item Consultants Page
- remove item CD Vendors Page
- remove item LDAP Developer Directory Administrator
- remove item Package Tracking System
- remove move section Debian Pure Blends. IMO blends are like
ports. It's not a suborganization of Debian, and there's no need to
  list people involved in it.

Hello,

While downloading binary file for a package, on download page [1], under
South America mirror, there exists http[:]//debian.torredehanoi.org

blocked in uBlock Origin (due to inclusion in Easylist and Peter Lowe;s

The issue is in the documentation package, not on the website; reassign to

Having LTS support does not mean that we recommend to install new
systems using the outdated release. Therefore I've removed the link.

And where is the page (which) mentioned?

So, why was that page removed then?
Or at least add a link pointing to above archive URL?
Editing the page like this is not professional (mentioning a page,
which is not there anymore).
Buster is still under LTS support, so not archived strictly.

Broken page link for buster installation

2024-05-16 Thread Heidi Fehr
Hello!

I recently went to go look for an installer for Debian Buster v10 but it
appears that the page link is no longer working.
https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/debian-installer/

Please let me know if this is correct.

Thank you,

Bug#1071157: www.debian.org: securing debian manual: broken links

2024-05-15 Thread Hendrik Jaeger
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-b...@henk.geekmail.org

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Collecting information on SysRq.
Followed by trying to find information how to report issues with the
documentation.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

For both tasks: stumble over broken links.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Working links.

https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-manual/restrict-sysrq.en.html
 has the following text:
»For more information, read security chapter in the Remote Serial Console
HOWTO, Kernel SysRQ documentation. and the Magic_SysRq_key wikipedia entry.«
The link to the »Kernel SysRQ documentation« is broken and leads to
https://kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sysrq.txt
correct link would probably be
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/sysrq.html

https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-manual/changelog.en.html has
the following text:
»You can download or view the latest version of the Securing Debian Manual from
the Debian Documentation Project.«
The link to »Debian Documentation Project« leads to
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ which shows »Page not
found« and should maybe instead lead to
https://www.debian.org/doc/ddp.

It looks like there are possibly more broken links, among other to
alioth.debian.org.
So generally it might be a good idea to regularly run a broken link checker
over all docs.

Thanks!

Package: www.debian.org

In the footer of every page we list the date the page was last
modified. Currently this information is completly useless, because it
does not show a correct date. e.g.

https://www.debian.org/women/
Last Modified: Fri, Jun 1 18:42:17 UTC 2018

Let's look into the git log:

The last commit on index.wml was in 2014, which only changed http to
https, so no real content change. In fact, the content didn't changed
since 2012 and may be out of date.

Please just remove this useless information from every page.

So, since debian-policy 3.9.7 there is a document describing
autopkgtest. I'd like having this reachable through www.d.o as all the
other policy documents already are.

Julien Cristau pointed me to
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debwww/cron.git/tree/parts/7doc#n314 So
I'm going to guess that's all needed is some addition to that script.

I don't have a particular opinion on where this/these file(s) should be.

Thanks in advance.

These sources are the original ones, managed by the security team.
If there's some error in it, they can fix it.
You can file a bug report or send the security team an email about
errors in these files.

Re: The problem with security newsletters and newsletters on the security center

2024-05-08 Thread Thomas Lange
Hi,

DSA-5248-1 is about php-twig - security update. This is correct in the
security tracker https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/DSA-5248-1

Unfortunally the email that was send about this security fix
https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2022/msg00217.html
had the wrong DSA number in the subject line and the mail itself.

In our web pages, we can fix this, so the security entry links to the
right email. This means www.debian.org/security/DSA-5248-1 will link
to the correct email, but this email includes a wrong DSA number.
Sorry for this confusion, but we cannot change the email afterwards.

Here's the file of rewrites/fixes we use to link to the correct emails:

Hi,

I've proposed refresh list of category in
https://lists.debian.org before. [1]
There is a few feedbacks, but they are not negative ones.
[2][3]

So I want to make this idea forward, but not familiar way
to do it.

First, to raise an attention to the team, I've filed as a bug
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1065647

Then I've seen https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/ListMaster, so
I've tried to contact the team directly.

As far as I know, content of repository is not public so
the only way to do is asking the team members to update ones, doesn't it?

pages like https://www.debian.org/devel/website/stats/de.

I did some syncing as far as possible for me, however there is still some little
work to do for translators.

So you might want to look into these files:
webwml//international/l10n/po/tmpl.src
webwml//international/l10n/po4a/tmpl.src

You can lookup the changings in English via these commands:
git diff 29e4b6a41ff6..0b3b565fa9cc -- english/international/l10n/po/tmpl.src
git diff 29e4b6a41ff6..0b3b565fa9cc -- english/international/l10n/po4a/tmpl.src

Thanks + Regards
Holger

Bug#1070391: wiki.debian.org: spelling error: This command backup all height key-slots

2024-05-04 Thread Yngve Spjeld-Landro

Package: wiki.debian.org
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

on page https://wiki.debian.org/LVM it says "This command backup all height
key-slots"

I'd like to suggest that the text is changed to: "This command backs up all
eight key-slots"

I just added my Mastodon address to my page and it is interpreted as an email
address. I think that a pattern like @[a-z0-9]@[a-z0-9] should be exempt from
the rules about automatically making a mailto.

Also it would probably be good for the template for a user home page to
suggest addresses for Mastodon and Diaspora.

hi,

looking at https://wiki.debian.org/Russell Coker, your mastodon address

Re: Re: Errors building /releases/buster folder in several languages (Re: webwml failed)

2024-05-01 Thread Thomas Lange

If I'm not wrong the current build errors come from these lines in
Makefile.common:

151 ifneq "$(LANGUAGE)" "en"
152 #Ensure that MO files do exist
153 #Translators have to run make under webwml//po if they
154 #want it updated, it cannot be automatically performed.
155 $(LOCALEDESTFILES): $(LOCALEDIR)/%.mo: $(WMLBASE)/po/%.$(LANGUAGE).po
156 $(MAKE) -C $(WMLBASE)/po install-$*.mo

I wonder if this really because of a change in releases/
It looks more like the build in l10n/po fails.
