[Bug 37295] startup warning (gtksourceview / modeline plugin: python error)

2006-03-30 Thread Andreas Mohr
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37295

Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hello,

yet another of my Dapper bugs (now 6 or so):

gedit seems to work IIRC, but displays the following:

$ gedit

gedit-common 2.14.1-0ubuntu1
python2.4 2.4.2-1ubuntu3
libgtksourceview1.0-0 1.6.0-0ubuntu1

NOTE that this is an ex-Knoppix ex-Debian ex-Breezy now-Dapper system
(h the pain!!), so it might actually be something not properly
handled by the upgrade mechanisms...

Thanks!

The error is:
Totem could not play '$URL' . This location is not a valid one. However

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? How do you add
the user? The sytem, administration, groups and users tool use the
desktop profile by default which has all those groups activated...

The user was made on Breezy. It was added with adduser (with no options

[Bug 37301] Clock misbehaviour

2006-03-30 Thread apelete
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37301

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
It seems like the gnome panel's clock sometimes have problems to keep the exact
time.
I use the Europe/Paris time zone, and the clock sometimes jump from the
correct time to time +2 hours, back and forth. For instance, yesterday the time
displayed was correct, and this morning the clock displays the time with an
increase of 2 hours (it was 13 o'clock instead of 11).
I tried to use the Synchronize Now button in Time and Date Settings, but it
didn't do anything. I was forced to check the Use UTC radio button to adjust
the time, but it will a temporary solution (as the time keeps on changing).
I checked my bios clock, and it was on time, so the problem is really in
Dapper's clock management.

Hrmm, I'm not completely happy with that. Unfortunately
debian/tmp/usr/bin/festival-synthesis-driver gets installed to the lib package
too. It'd make more sense to have a gnome-speech package, which contains the
binaries, or somtehing like libgnome-speech-bin

The problem is, that if they do an API change and bump the soname we will have
to replaces/conflicts the old package... oh well. Maybe we should just do it.
(will look into it again after Flight 6 Freeze).

[Bug 37259] Selecting text whites out page

2006-03-30 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37259

Comment:
Hi,

The bug you reference seems to be describing more than the bug described in
this report. However, both these effects are not observed in evince in Dapper.

To be precise, bug #36236 describes in part that:
- If you select some text, then move another window over evince window

This might be the same as this bug, which has to do with scrolling after
selecting text. I am not sure what the reporter of bug#36236 means when she
says move another window over. In any case, both these bugs are fixed in
Dapper now, and irreproducible in Dapper.

[Bug 37021] Re: applications crash when minimizing it to the left window border

2006-03-30 Thread Martin Jürgens
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36497 ***

Sebastien, I do not think that this is a duplicate.

bug #36497 has been fixed on the 28th of March, this bug still exists although
the updated metacity package is installed. Furthermore metacity does not crash
using the procedure mentioned above.

Please change the status if I am correct.

[Bug 37230] Re: [Dapper FL5] Clock applet doesn't syncrhonise with NTP

2006-03-30 Thread Gary Coady
1. Perhaps the error message could be rewritten to be clearer - ntpdate does an
instant update, and that is installed - what your system is missing is a
program with runs continuously (ntp-server).

2. You don't also need ntp, if you're happy with the date being just slightly
incorrect occasionally.

As regards the Synchronise now button not working, the bug is in time-admin,
it appears to try to run
/etc/init.d/ntpdate restart

However, this file no longer exists - the command to run should be
/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate

The file was moved in ntpdate version 1:4.2.0a+stable-8.1ubuntu2

2006-03-30 Thread Ropetin Again
I am suffering from this same problem, again with Breezy Badger and Evolution

The problem occurs when I try and view 90% of my tasks, and I haven't as of yet
been able to identify any difference between the ones that work and the ones
that don't. Although to be fair thats probably because it locks too quickly
for me to be able to do much research.

Bug Buddy doesn't pop up when it happens, I just have to kill the application.

Is this bug still an issue ? We are now shipping with default UTF-8 everywhere

The upstream bug was closed as WONTFIX.
The other bug pointed by sebastien (GNOME #106549) is years old without any
progress.

In fact, I think nearly everybody is now using UTF-8.

[Bug 37311] Re: wnck-applet memory leak

2006-03-30 Thread Joona Kannisto
Yep, it isn't related to libsvg or libsvg-cairo I was wrong there. Try looking
with xrestop and minimizing/maximizing some small program, if it works as in my
system, you should see a 150 kb hop in wnck-applets pixmap memory. You have
tried without the windowlist (remove from panel) and workspace-switcher?
(removing those should stop wnck-applet and free the memory from Xorg)

[Bug 36057] Re: [Bug 36057] Keyboard layout selection does not work

2006-03-30 Thread ints
Could you run gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
and copy that to a comment?

 layouts = [us  intl,us alt-intl]
 model = pc102
 options = [grp grp:alts_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

As you see, both versions of us-international layouts are defined. But
actually, I am using here US standard layout. So, the layout currently in use
is not there, none of layouts defined is not working. I dont want to switch
layouts, only use one US-International, no matter is it new or old.

Regards,
Indrek

[Bug 37311] Re: wnck-applet memory leak

2006-03-30 Thread mym
Ok, I think it's the windows list applet (I don't know the exact English
name) which causes this.
If I remove only it, the memory stops to increase.
Once launched, the memory increases slowly.
If I switch between workspaces several times, quickly, then the memory taken by
Xorg grows very quickly !

[Bug 37257] Re: Deskbar history has short URL memory

2006-03-30 Thread Michaël Van Dorpe
I changed the line to a maximum history of 1000.

Everything seems to work fine, but I only entered +/- 50 items. I will come
back to this if I see any problems.

However, I get the impression that the dropdown menu of the deskbar applet
(left click the magnifying glass) wants to be as long as the maximum history,
which means the list hits the bottom of the screen, and who knows how much
longer it really is (if that's possible).

Can the lenght of that list be limited independently of the maximum history?

[Bug 36151] Re: Clicking a second time on the Trash applet should close it, not open a second instance

2006-03-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. It acts the same way as any directory put on the panel by
drag and drop. Your behaviour would mean programming a trash application rather
than opening the nautilus view on the folder. I'm rejecting that bug, feel free
to argue upstream if you strongly think that should be done an another way, we
are not going to rewrite that app differently from upstream just because of that

[Bug 37350] Re: [Bug 37350] Pressing power button unlocks locked screensaver

Can't confirm on i386 - however, if I press the power button, the logout
dialog will come up after the screen is unlocked. Having pressed it
several times, the dialog come up over and over again. So I agree that
the power button should be completely disabled when the screen is
locked.

[Bug 37311] Re: wnck-applet memory leak

2006-03-30 Thread Joona Kannisto
wnck_applet_SOURCES = \
wncklet.c \
window-menu.c \
window-list.c \
workspace-switcher.c \
showdesktop.c \
These are the sourcefiles (clipped out .h:s) in wnck-applet binary. So stopping
all the above applets wnck-applet should go away. In normal configuration there
is also the showdesktop applet in lower left corner that I forgot to include in
my previous post. Btw if you kill wnck-applet from cmdline it doesn't release
the memory, only stops it from growing.
