Re: [Bug 313228] Re: a program is still running but i want shut down anyway

2011-06-01 Thread Seth
On 06/01/2011 03:30 AM, jay armstrong wrote:
The app, Tangerine, consistently causes this and is listed as unknown.
Uninstalling it solves the problem, whether I've started firefox or not.

I see one of two bugs in this issue:
 1. Tangerine not identifying itself
 2. gnome-session not identifying it

Brilliant find! Removing tangerine from the gnome 'Startup Applications'
list sovled the issue indeed.

Note that for one user, the 'tangerine' entry had already been disabled
(unchecked) _but_ I had to remove an entry listed as 'Unknown Program'
(or 'Unknown Application' ... don't remember sorry) as well. Inspecting
the details of that entry (by clicking the Edit button) showed that it
was linked to the tangerine executable as well!

Thanks, Jay, this helps a lot. I reckon not directly for tangerine
users, which I'm not, but at least this longstanding (!!!) annoyance has
been pinpointed and it will be easy to fix, I feel, tahnks again,

Seth

[Bug 410636] Re: Right-click should not pre-light first option, too easy to accidentally select the first Context-menu option.

2011-06-01 Thread Aditya Sharma
I had similar symptoms to the ones mentioned above. A single click
worked like two very quick single clicks (and not a double click). This
was of course not showing up on my other Linux Laptop or when used with
any other OS.

In the end it turned out to be because of having both an external USB
mouse and my laptop touchpad enabled simultaneously. When I used my
laptop's Fn+Disable Touchpad key to disable touchpad, the issue goes
away and i can use the USB mouse ok. I wonder if some of you folks were
facing the same issue.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-06-01 Thread MikeCz
FWIW: Sean Fenton's advice about disabling sync_to_vblank in gconf-
editor seems to have done the trick: I just left my laptop on overnight
with Transmission running (which was a recipe to activate the bug) and
it came back no problem.

The key location is:

/apps/compiz-1/plugins/opengl/screen0/options/sync_to_vblank

(since there are a couple of keys with the same name).

I still fervently hope that this bug gets fixed soon, however.

[Bug 791082] [NEW] Battery monitor doesn't show level on new ThinkPad model

2011-06-01 Thread Aaron Kavlie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On a ThinkPad X220, the battery monitor usually fails to report the battery
level after unplugging. Though the time remaining is reported, the meter shows

The build log shows:

checking for LSB distribution...

So we just need to add lsb-release to the build-depends

[Bug 791112] [NEW] nautilus hangs or crashes while browsing through large directories

2011-06-01 Thread Ivo Maintz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 11.04 natty
nautilus 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13
expected: list the content of a directory without latency or crash

Home directory is a nfs-mount. While browsing through it, the GUI hangs
for some seconds, the nautilus window turns to grey. Unfortunately,
this happens not everytime, but sometimes up to several times in one
minute.

The attempt to display the content of /usr/bin/ crashes nautilus.
(segementation fault).

This happens on several PCs. Memtest gives no error messages.

[Bug 432882] Re: Python binding for gnomekeyring prevents password prompt on unlock

2011-06-01 Thread sentimental bryan
Still a problem in 10.10.

I'm writing a helper script that integrates offlineimap and notmuch
mail.

Have to fire up Seahorse and manually unlock the keyring before I run
the script.

Would be nice if I could just display a notification via the Gnome
Keyring daemon.

I also agree that this is a security issue, having the application pop
up it's own prompt for your keyring password defeats the whole purpose
of using Gnome Keyring.

The purpose of Gnome Keyring, much like PAM - is to abstract away
authentication from the desktop application itself.

It never happens 50 times one day, but it might happen 0-4 times per
day. I can't find any usage patterns that reliably cause GDM to restart
like that.

I am using Classic mode.

Is there anything else I can post to help resolve this bug?

Thanks,
Ryan

[Bug 791144] [NEW] cursor flashing without focus

2011-06-01 Thread Mark Sheppard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I've noticed that terminal windows often get themselves into a state
where the cursor block is flashing even when they don't have focus. I
*think* this tends to happen after a suspend/resume cycle, but am not
sure about that. Will investigate a bit more and update this issue if I
get solid reproduction steps. These blinkenlights are annoying!

[Bug 464535] Re: Battery monitor on tray says Laptop battery is fully charged all the time

2011-06-01 Thread Ali lokhandwala
I have this problem on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a HP DV3500 laptop. The
battery state is always on AC power if the laptop is booted on battery.
If the laptop is booted on AC power and then the power cable removed,
the battery state is fixed and it correctly shows the battery
discharging.

This problem is unfortunate as it affects the rest of my power settings,
for example the screen brightness does not go down when on battery and
the laptop does not sleep when on battery as it always believes it is on
AC power. (I have set it to never sleep when on AC power). It also means
when battery reaches critical the machine pops off, instead of
gracefully shutting down.

Any fixes workarounds please?

[Bug 791208] [NEW] Evolution is still forgetting pop3 passwords

Created this as previous bugs are marked as invalid.

It seems random. I've three accounts set up. It could be all three or
just one that gets this. Is it a time out problem?

[Bug 791112] Re: nautilus hangs or crashes while browsing through large directories

2011-06-01 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 790848] Re: crashed trying to install desktop effects 11.04 Ub now screen has wallpaper but all icons not visible

2011-06-01 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 131145]

2011-06-01 Thread Johnmblack
Has any part of this already landed in FF 4? I'm asking because today I
experienced windows locked file problems twice after accidentally
dropping a file onto a FF4 window. After FF captured the drop, it
seemed the file was locked in the OS indefinitely until I killed the FF
process.

As there is problems with automatically testing this bug, we'd need a

[Bug 785740] Re: xchat-gnome crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-06-01 Thread Milo Casagrande
Hi,

just to add a comment about this issue: some years ago we experienced a
similar problem with the Italian translation of xchat-gnome, and the
problem was really related to the translation. If I'm not wrong, there
could be problems with the strings in xchat-gnome that look like this
one:

msgid -%C10-%C11-%O$t$1 deleted from notify list.

It is easy to add something or to format the string in a way that can
crash the application.

Just to let you guys know, in case it might help you.

Ciao.

[Bug 432882] Re: Python binding for gnomekeyring prevents password prompt on unlock

2011-06-01 Thread sentimental bryan
Man, I don't know how to use bzr but I've been in touch with the gnome
guys and the fix is really easy.

I've downloaded the gnome-python-desktop-2.30.0 src package.

Here's a relevant diff

diff ./gnomekeyring/gnomekeyring.defs ./gnomekeyring/gnomekeyring.defs.orig
272c272
 '(const-char* password (null-ok))
---
 '(const-char* password)

That fixes it.

[Bug 745983] Re: Closing a Nautilus window crashes the whole file manager

[Bug 785740] Re: xchat-gnome crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-06-01 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Milo: right, I remember the same happening to the Hungarian xchat a few
years back, because of this.

Maybe this string is it:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/xchat-
gnome/+pots/xchat-gnome/es/503/+translate

-%C10-%C11-%O$t%C12[%O$1%C12]%O $2
-%C10-%C11-%O$t%C12[%O$1%C12]%0 $2

The last %O is translated as %0, this is suspicious.
