[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid
confirming that 2.6.27.8 kernel fixes the problem on DELL Inspiron 9400; (Identified as Del Inc.). xev no longer shows the KeyPress/KeyRelease loop, and OSD for brightness is working. However a minor issue I noticed was that brightness up/down steps were not consistent. After going to 100% brightness and reducing using Fn+down, I hit minimum brightness when OSD shows only 50%; OSD goes down to 0% if I keep pressing Fn+down; Now when I increase via Fn+up, it starts to increase properly and and brightness hits max when OSD shows 100% (which is correct). -- Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285323 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The cause of this problem is explained as DELLs not sending the Key Up events. In my case I see a tight loop of KeyPress/KeyRelease events (in xev), as I have explained in bug#288579 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/288579), which was closed as a duplicate of this. [Bug 287062] Re: Screen resolution capplet unnecesarily tries to set virtual resolution
I'd like to confirm the problem, but I am not sure that the quick hack is the right solution. In the past, it was possible to mirror a larger screen over a smaller one (e.g. laptop 1400x1050, external monitor 1920x1200) The laptop just displayed the top left corner, which was fine with me. If the external monitor is larger than 1400x1400, one still needs the virtual line. So, the computation to make in case of mirroring would seem to be to take the max of the dimensions, and check that against the default bounds or the current virtual. -- Screen resolution capplet unnecesarily tries to set virtual resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/287062 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 81905] Re: [feisty] f-spot does not start
I tried running the suggested command and it failed - unable to connect. I tried a number of things (tried to make sure SQLLITE was installed etc) and got no where. however - eventually I looked to see if photos.db existed and it did... and as I couldnt seem to login to look at the Schema, i deleted it (got the idea from another logged problem). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem On a Dell 8300, using Ubuntu 8.04 and Totem-common 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 I try to play two commercial DVD movies (Kitty Foyle and Snow White) and the sound is in Spanish. [Bug 230045] [NEW] Unable to install Trash and other Icons on Desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gconf-editor This might be a bug in 8.04. After installation, I go to gconf-editorThen apps Nautilus Desktop and check the Trash, Computer, Home, Network and Volumes Visible icons. The icons do not appear on the desktop even after a restart. Another Ubuntu member suggested using gTweakUIand that worked. gTweakUI is only a front end for gconf-editor, so the latter should also have worked. [Bug 228868] [NEW] administration application will not start for software installation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor When trying to install software the administration application does not load to allow the installation. It happens randomly whether I use the add/remove application or install directly from a downloaded file. Sometimes everything works fine and other times it just wont ever get to the point of asking my password to install. The add/remove application is just sitting there waiting for the administration application to validate the password. I have to physically turn off power to try again. Yesterday it happened when I tried to install updates. Today, updates worked fine but I am trying to install 7zip and gstreamer plug ins for MP3 support.
