[Bug 79603] Alt-F6 binding doesn't work in Metacity

2007-01-16 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

This is (somewhat) related to bug #72732.

In previous versions of Metacity, Alt-F6 was a configurable keybinding.
I have been using it to make windows maximize vertically in the past
(Dapper). However, under Feisty (metacity 2.17.3-0ubuntu1) this is no
longer possible as the keybinding seems to do some sort of same-
application window switching.

The problem lies in the fact that Alt-F6 is still a configurable
keybinding within the Keyboard Shortcuts application. A user should be
able to over ride this keybinding. At this point, a warning isn't even
displayed to state that this key combination is already used for another
purpose.

[Bug 71818] Window borders not always drawn properly for maximized windows

2006-11-14 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

I am currently using Dapper and see this issue fairly often, but I think
it still exists in Edgy as well.

When maximizing a window using the Metacity window manager and a theme
with rounder corners such as the default Human Metacity theme, the top
corners are not always drawn properly - they should become square, but
sometimes they simply remain rounded.

This problem seems to occur most often when the window is already close
to the size of the display - so maximizing the window doesn't change its
shape by much. It can also occur when initially starting an
application.

A workaround is to unmaximize the window, resize it to be small compared
to the size of the screen, and then remaximize the window.

I will attach screenshots to illustrate.

[Bug 34435] Re: Cairo and ATI RENDER extension cause scrambled buttons in UbuntuLooks

2006-09-12 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Dave - Does this just disable the offending options, or does it fix
whatever the problem is which causes the display problems? If it just
disables some of the acceleration options, what are the differences
between this and using the original Dapper driver +

2006-08-30 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Dave -

I just tried using the

Option "Colortiling" "false"

setting in my xorg.conf, and I still have the issue. So far, the only
fix I've tried and had work is

Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"

This is on a 32mb 9200mobility card running Dapper. I don't know if
it's related, but I also see 3D rendering errors which go away if I
disable most of the DRI acceleration options - I'm only mentioning this
in case they are somehow related.

I don't think that the XAANoOffscreenPixmaps option should be used as a

[Bug 45338] Newly added addresses don't show up in autocompletion (Dapper's Evolution)

2006-05-17 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In evolution, when I add a contact for a person I received email from by
right clicking on their address and selecting "Add to Address Book" the
address is properly added to my contacts, but the address will not
appear in the auto-completion done by Evolution until the address has
been further edited.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Receive an email from someone who isn't in your address book.
2. Right click on their address, select "Add to Address Book"
3. Save the contact.
4. Create a new email, and start to type the newly created contact's name/email
address, and watch while nothing happens.

If you go to the contacts section and edit the contact, the
autocompletion will start to work.

[Bug 45230] URL "tooltips" go offscreen in Dapper's Epiphany

2006-05-17 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

While browsing the Ubuntu forums today, I noticed that some of the URL
tooltips (I'm not sure of the proper name... the things which pop up
over some URLs when you hold the pointer over them) go partially
offscreen.

To reproduce:
1. Maximize an Epiphany browser window.
2. Go to http://ubuntuforums.org/
3. Click on any of the available forums.
4. Click on any of the available threads in the forum.
5. At the bottom right of each post, there are 3 icons for performing a
"quick-reply". Hold the mouse pointer over one of these icons, and the text
which pops up will run partially off-screen.

This may be somehow related to Xinerama/MergedFB, as I am currently
using my laptop with an extra display (external display to the right of
my laptop display). However, this happens on both screens, so I'm not
certain that it has any bearing on the issue.

[Bug 41647] Duplicate task listings in calendar applet (Evolution, Dapper)

2006-04-26 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I add a task in Evolution, then open the task and change the group,
the gnome-panel calendar applet duplicates the task rather than simply
changing the group.

Method to reproduce:
1. Create a task in Evolution.
2. Click on the calendar applet on the gnome panel and see the task properly
listed under the calendar. Click on the calendar applet again to hide the
popup.
3. Open the task in Evolution and change the group to something different, then
save the task.
4. Repeat #2, and see the duplicated task.

This also seems to carry over for task deletion. Follow the same steps
as above, but delete the task instead of renaming it. The task will
still show up in the calendar applet popup.

I apologize if I filed this under the wrong package, I'm not sure which
one has the problem.

[Bug 41160] Dapper's Evolution will not open email from outside applications when using self-signed certificates

2006-04-24 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)

   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Using the latest Dapper updates, if I try to open an email from an
outside application (ex. beagle), a mail window will pop up but the
message never loads.

The problem seems to be that the message is on an IMAP server which has
a self-signed certificate, and Evolution has no means to always accept
the certificate. I can click through the certificate acceptance dialog
if I start Evolution directly, but if I try to open a message using

hang in the background.

[Bug 39233] Middle-click extensions seem to hang epiphany browser in Dapper

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Using Dapper with the latest updates, epiphany extensions which grab
middle-click actions (gestures and auto scroll) lock up epiphany. The

When downloading a file with Epiphany using the latest Dapper, the file
is left in /tmp rather than being saved to the directory selected in the
preferences dialog.

[Bug 33725] UW-IMAP folder handling somewhat broken

2006-03-04 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33725

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Evolution doesn't seem to be able to properly handle IMAP folders on
servers such as UW-IMAP which only allow messages OR folders in a given
folder. It gives an error (IMAP command failed: SELECT failed: Can't
open AOSC: not a selectable mailbox) when you try to select one of these
folder-containing folders.

For example, I have a "Mailing Lists" folder in my IMAP account which
holds folders containing messages from various mailing lists. If I
click on this folder in the mail menu in Evolution, the above error
message pops up. KMail, Thunderbird, mutt, and just about every other
IMAP client I've tried seems to be able to get it right except for
Evolution.

[Bug 33498] Bad font rendering with antialiasing off

2006-03-02 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33498

Affects: gtk+2.0 libgtk2.0-0 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When antialiasing is turned off, gtk2 apps often seem to have font
rendering issues in tabs and menus. I don't think I've seen in this in
KDE/Qt apps, but I have seen in in several gtk applications (the Gnome
panel menus, XFCE menus, Epiphany tabs (I'll attach a screenshot)).

This only seems to happen when antialiasing is turned off. I much
prefer to keep my smaller (<16pt) fonts with antialiasing off as it
makes reading easier on my eyes.

I'm not sure if this is a pango/other issue, so I apologize if this was
posted to the wrong package.

[Bug 32294] Useless plugin install option in Epiphany

2006-02-21 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32294

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
If an Epiphany user views a page which uses plugins such as Flash, the
user sees the same 'Click here to download plugin' they would see in
Firefox. However, in Epiphany clicking on the link does nothing.

This message should probably either be supressed, or changed so that it
works properly to do what it says it's supposed to.

[Bug 30760] Sending email from deskbar applet does not work

2006-02-08 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30760

Comment:
Ok, I think I have found the cause of the bug: I had not checked the
'Skip this message in the future' box in the beta message which
Evolution opens on startup. If I check this box, then the problem goes
away.

[Bug 29356] GL-hacks flickers

2006-02-07 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29356

Comment:
This is with the standard Xorg ATI driver. The relevant xorg.conf
section is pretty simple:

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Technologies, Inc. M9+ 5C61 [Radeon Mobility 9000
(AGP)]"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to fix the problem on my system. The
GL screensavers (using gnome-screensaver) still flicker constantly.

[Bug 14585] gdm requires *root* password for configuring within itself

2006-02-05 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/14585

Comment:
This is still a problem with the latest Dapper packages. If you try to
configure GDM from the login screen, it will prompt for a password
(presumably root) which, by default, does not exist.

[Bug 28798] new logout dialog interface issues

2006-02-01 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28798

Comment:
A somewhat unrelated problem with the current setup in Dapper is that
the System->Shutdown->Suspend option logs the user out, then suspends,
which is a very different action than if you use the gnome-panel logout
button and select Suspend from that dialog.

I'd consider myself an advanced computer user, and the diverging
selection of logout/shutdown/etc dialogs are becoming rather ridiculous
and difficult to follow. :-)

Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29356

Comment:
I am seeing this on my Dapper Flight 3 + updates install as well. Any
screensaver using OpenGL flickers constantly, like it's not double
buffering or waiting for a screen referesh to draw the next frame.

The problem doesn't seem to be there in Breezy.

[Bug 29402] Downloading files of unknown size in Epiphany uses too much CPU time

2006-01-22 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29402

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When downloading a file in Epiphany which does not have a total size
reported (the download window says 'Unknown' in the progress box), a
huge amount of CPU time is used by the download compared to downloading
a file with a known download size. There doesn't seem to be a need for
this, and I don't think the problem exists in Firefox.

Example link:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8723130163011577496&q=red+vs+blue+02
-- then click on 'Download' to the right. Downloading this file, or any
other from Google Video, gives me the same problem.
