Hi,

does the metacity fix also fix this in Compiz, or is that a separate

[Bug 473616] [NEW] Copying contacts from Google to CouchDB (Ubuntu One) gives a non-specific error

2009-11-03 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a working Google account synchronisation for my contacts in
Evolution. If I try to copy a contact via right-click -> copy contact
to, and select Ubuntu One, I get an "Error adding contact" dialog, with
the text "Other error" inside the dialog, and an OK button. This was
rather unsettling when I got a hundred of these windows, trying to copy
all the contacts in one go. :)

[Bug 449685] [NEW] After waking up from sleep, EEE 900 goes immediately back to sleep, once

2009-10-12 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On Asus EEE 900, up to date Karmic, closing the lid makes Ubuntu sleep,
but when I open the lid and press a key, instead of waking up, Ubuntu
just wakes up for less than a second and then sleeps again. This happens
exactly once, i.e. on the second keypress it wakes completely. I
submitted this separate from bug #306310 since it has been fixed and the
symptom happened on different computers (i.e. not an EEE).

And testing on a new user confirmed this, as it works fine there. This

You're right, it works correctly on a new user. Thanks. Do you have any
idea what configuration option has this kind of an effect? I haven't

4. Press connect.

At this point, VLC opens, as per bug #209915. It is possible that is

5. Open the connection from the places menu. The menu entry does not
mention a directory, only the server name. The remote / is opened in
Nautilus, regardless of the directory given when creating the

With all the servers I've tried, yes. They're all some kind of Linux
servers, but I don't really think the problem is at that end.

(By the way, this Hardy was installed from an alpha image, I believe. It
is of course possible that left some configuration cruft.)

I get this too on Hardy, except VLC is opened instead. As I'm also
suffering from bug #212279 (nautilus always mounts remote /) the

[Bug 195569] [NEW] can't click on panel contents when mouse is at the top of the screen

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In up-to-date Hardy, on a Dell XPS M1330, when using the touchpad, you
can not open the Gnome menus or click on panel icons when the cursor is
at the top of the screen. There seems to be a 2 pixel area where the
clicks don't have any effect.

I just noticed that this happens at the bottom of the screen too, so
perhaps this is actually Synaptics offsetting the cursor!

[Bug 102921] Re: Moving the mouse cursor over the gnome-system-monitor temporarily causes network and disk usage to become zero

2008-02-04 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
I can confirm this on an up-to-date Hardy. Moving the mouse cursor onto
the network usage graph makes a dip in the graph a few pixels wide. The
graph then recovers. This happens every time I move the mouse onto the
graph, so it really doesn't seem to be just a coincidence.

This bug does not seem to be the same as the one marked as upstream.

[Bug 84501] Java6 Web Start just opens the Java control panel instead of running the application

2007-06-06 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When opening an application (e.g. jIRCii, ArgoUML) via Java6 web start,
instead of opening the application the Java control panel cache viewer
is opened. This happens in Epiphany but not in Firefox, which is why I
submitted the bug on this package. Could be a Java bug too, I suppose.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The notification bubbles take the font colour from Gtk's colour settings
(which are changeable with the new gnome theme manager), but the
background colour seems to always be a yellow-beigeish colour. If the

Attaching example screenshot.

I hope these bubbles are actually created by libnotify. :)

Even when I use the Finnish keymap the "ä" key misbehaves. If I remove

[Bug 85426] Feisty's Evince's hotkeys borked (with Finnish locale)

2007-02-15 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

On Feisty, Evince 0.72, using poppler 0.5.4 (splash) seems to think that
pressing the "ä" key on the Finnish keyboard means I want to zoom out.
This happen seven when the search bar is activated, making it impossible
to search for words containing the "ä" character. Additionally, Evince
zooms in and out with the + and - keys without having to press Ctrl at
all. However, it does not seem to think Ctrl is pressed all the time,
e.g. pressing just "o" doesn't open the open file dialog.

(FWIW, xev(1) says Ctrl+ä is the "-" character, which I suppose makes
Evince's behaviour at least logical, if very broken.)

2007-02-11 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Example URL: http://argouml-downloads.tigris.org/jws/argouml-0.22.jnlp

To reproduce the bug: open the above URL in Epiphany.

This is a so called Java Web Start file, which uses the web start
feature in Java to download the actual .jar file and then run it using
the system Java. It doesn't directly have anything to do with the
browser, besides the browser downloading the file and handing it to
Java. This needs to happen properly, of course. Feisty's Epiphany seems
to be not doing its thing properly here, with Java 6. Again, this might
be a Java bug, I'm not familiar enough with Java to say, but the fact
that it works in Firefox is probably a lead. (Does Firefox use the
system MIME configuratoin?)

[Bug 43640] Re: Evolution hangs at exit

2006-05-12 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Evolution-data-server-dbg was installed there, along with: evolution-dbg
evolution-data-server-dbg libc6-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-dbg. Did
I miss something? Oh - after evolution-data-server-dbg, do I need to
restart the running data server process? I'll try that later this
evening.

2006-05-08 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
With ubuntu-artwork version 16, Epiphany's next/stop/reload etc. are too
small. The icons themselves have also been changed, and are in my
opinion uglier than before (they used to look like the icons in
Tangerine).

That menu item does indeed exist on my installation too (newest dapper,
RB 0.9.3.1). I missed it before, I guess, because it's grouped together
with the cut&paste operations.

[Bug 42626] Re: Clicking on contents sidebar resets zoom/view mode

2006-05-03 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
An example PDF is available at

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/alatvako/kl-2006/Kayttoliittymat-opetusmoniste-2006.pdf

(Warning: it's 24MB.)

You'll note that you Evince can show the contents of the PDF in the sidebar,
not just page thumbnails. Clicking on any item in the contents sidebar resets
the zoom (from whatever I set it) to 100% and moves to that page.

[Bug 42386] No menu entry for deleting from library

2006-05-01 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
You can right-click on a song and select the appropriate entry to remove
it from the library, but I couldn't find that entry in the menus
anywhere. This is confusing especially as there is a menu entry to move
the selected files to trash (see below).

(There _is_ an entry in the Edit menu to move the selected songs to
trash, which is what I did (assuming stupidly that it clears the
playlist), which moved all my song files from their respective folders
into trash. I had assumed it'd just clear the playlist without touching
the file system.

I couldn't find a way to move the songs back to their own folders, but
that's probably a trash bug, not RB.)

[Bug 39173] Re: usplash messages look a little bland and a little intimidating

2006-04-30 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
IMHO, the boot progress messages can be completely removed. They serve no
purpose whatsoever to the end user.

Although you might need to change the progress bar to something that's
constantly animated (like Windows's startup bar) so that people know the bootup
is still progressing, if it takes a long time for some reason.

[Bug 39057] Re: Can't view all album songs when an artist is selected

2006-04-22 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Thanks for the reply. Sorry about the ambiguous "doesn't work" in the original
report.

The "select album" option works, but doesn't move the artist selection to "all
artists", so on compilation albums you don't get the whole album.

The upstream bug does look relevant, although it would probably be easier just
to move the artist selection to "all artists" when the user selects "select
album".

By the way, the Finnish translation of "select album" is more like "browse
album", which gives a stronger impression that you'll get _all_ the songs on
that album, not only those by the currently selected artists. "Select album"
doesn't give quite as strong an impression.

Moving the artist selection to "all artists" and renaming the rightclick action
to "browse album" might be a good fix, although it'll remove the functionality
to browse only the current artist's songs on that album. The smart VA handling
would be good here.

[Bug 39057] Can't view all album songs when an artist is selected

2006-04-10 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When you right click on a song and select 'Browse album' (roughly - I'm
running it in Finnish), RB shows the songs on the album by that artist.
This doesn't work for albums with multiple artists.

In short, I'd like to be able to double click on the album name in the
album pane, which would move the artist selection to 'all artists', and
select the album, so that all the songs on that album would become
visible.

The last message translates as 'Segmentation fault', I think. In any
case, going over the valid memory addressing space.

NOTE: I couldn't reproduce this reliably, so I didn't attach an strace.
I submitted the bug anyway, just so it's known that there are crashes

[Bug 36808] Minimum font size settable in two places

2006-03-26 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36808

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
On Dapper, the minimum font size is settable in both the simple fonts
panel and the detailed font view. They both seem to edit the font size,
except if either is changed to a value below the other, that change does
not take effect. Increasing either or decreasing either but keeping it
above the other setting's value works.

The obvious fix is to remove one setting, or at least make the settings
mirror each other. Having two settings for one thing is extremely
confusing to me, though, even if they are mirrored.
