[Bug 157819] Re: Login Window configuration saves wrong settings
The app in question is gdmsetup and it's been a bug since Feisty at least. I'm still experiencing it on 8.04 Desktop AMD64 on a clean install with all available updates except the proposed repo. The description matches that given in the initial post by seanh. Whether or not the Human theme has been fixed (shown in the png above), the gdmsetup problem described in the initial post remains. -- Login Window configuration saves wrong settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157819 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 227625] [NEW] Don't resolve samba names in a Network on a NAS
Public bug reported: I've a NAS file server (samba version on NAS: 3.0.20) and if i ping "servername" from a terminal i get response, name resolving work fine. If i connect to the NAS file server from a windows workstation all work fine. >From Nautilus in Ubuntu Hardy official release i try to make a Server Connection with the NAS but giving the name of the NAS server the connection fail or stay active only for some minutes and give a lot of problems transferring data to/from the NAS. Giving smbclient -L "servername" i get the informations about shares, domain and master from the samba NAS server. Giving smbclient //servername/public -U username from a terminal all work fine, so it isn't a samba problem. IMPORTANT! If i use the static ip address in nautilus, instead of the name (to be resolved), all work fine! Is a name resolving problem generated by nautilus because in nautilus don't resolve names but the names are correctly resolved using commnd-line. Now i'm using only the static ip address in nautilus to map the shares and (for now) there are no problems. [Bug 227664] [NEW] gnome-terminal dies on creation of a new profile
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal gnome-terminal/hardy uptodate 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 Invoking Edit->Profiles ...->New in gnome-terminal results in the program exiting just after the name of the new profile is entered followed by hitting the Enter key. When gnome-terminal is restarted, the new profile has been created and is ready for editing. This has happened several times, at least three, including twice this morning. It is not, however, uniformly repeatable. I'm pretty sure that in all cases the exit happened when adding a second profile, the initial state being that onlty the Default profile existed. This sequence of actions just caused the error, the fourth time at least. Two gnome-terminal running, each started with gksu gnome- terminal. In one, I delete the second profile, called "ALternative". I quit the terminal in which I performed that action. I start a new gnome- terminal with gksu. I add a new profile and the program exits. This now seems repeatable, because it happened again, the fifth time, using the above sequence of steps. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-terminal dies on creation of a new profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 195266] Re: Nautilus does not update trashcan icon
Yes, I have just tried that, and discovered that: The new user trash icon behaves in exactly the same buggy way, that is, it doesn't update with adding stuff to an empty trashcan nor emptying it, although opening it does show the items in there. Stranger, when I logged back out and back into my old account, the trashcan icon had completely disappeared! However, it is still "there", it just isn't visible, since right-clicking on it does open up a trashcan context menu. Sometimes, display things are compiz related. I tried turning off and on compiz but that doesn't change anything. [Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button "Open F-spot Photo Manager" doesn't work
Yep, I agree with the last 2 comments. So, given that changes in argument handling for f-spot has caused 2 bugs (this one and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/202717), it would make sense to return the argument handling to the old behavour. Since f-spot is a script, it seems that the old behaviour could be emulated there: * If the 1st arg is --import, then don't touch anything - assume sanity. * If the 1st and only arg is a directory and it is directly under /media, then add a --import * Otherwise, for each file:// arg, add a --view arg before it. Also, the existing line saying: for arg in $* ; do is also a bug. If someone passes a filename called "foo --trace=bar.jpg" then the wrong thing will happen - yes, that is unlikely but the fix is easy! The above should just be: for arg; do A patch that does all of the above is attached. I've patched /usr/bin/f-spot rather than the source file... however, if the patch is useful then it should be easy to apply to the source file. Some of the code is bash-specific - without bash I think all is lost, since bash arrays provide a way of maintaining filenames with whitespace in them. ... and yes... the way of done it is a little bit insane, but it works for all of my desired use cases so far... :-) ** Attachment added: "Patch to /usr/bin/f-spot to fix popular use cases." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14335464/f-spot.patch -- Camera Device button "Open F-spot Photo Manager" doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208467 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 220913] Re: gnome-keybinding-properties - backspace wouldnt remove shortcut
I have tried various things and spent over half an hour trying to reproduce with no luck (two seperate occasions: a few hours after first seeing the bug, and just now). It was definitely putting 'Backspace' into the keybinding when the problem occurred - very frustrating! So I would guess you should close the issue as "non-repeatable" or equivalent. [Bug 227664] Re: gnome-terminal dies on creation of a new profile
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- gnome-terminal dies on creation of a new profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 222413] Re: GStreamer-based applications will not play media unless sound mixer is Alsa
I discovered the same thing. I tried playing ~/Examples/Experience\ Ubuntu.ogg with both Totem and mplayer. With Preferences->Sound->Music and Movies set to "Detect Automatically" or "Pulse Audio" Totem refuses to play it. When set to "Alsa" it works flawlessly. With gnome-mplayer or mplayer, if I set audio codec (using "preferences" or the -ao CLI option) to "pulse" it doesn't work, but with "alsa" it does. -- GStreamer-based applications will not play media unless sound mixer is Alsa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222413 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 222413] Re: GStreamer-based applications will not play media unless sound mixer is Alsa
Ok, now this is strange. I just tried it again, and now using pulseaudio works. I could play both "Experience Ubuntu.ogg" and "ubuntu-sax.ogg" at the same time (one in Totem, one in gnome-mplayer) without any problems. Using pavucontrol I could control both streams appropriately. [Bug 225998] [NEW] Screenshot shows transparency instead of other monitor
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using gnome, two monitors configured with xinerama by the nvidia drivers. When "Take Screenshot" program attempts to take a screenshot, it only is taking a screenshot of my left (primary) monitor -- and filling the area where the right monitor should be, with transparency. (As can be seen by attached screenshot) The screenshot should be of both monitors - or preferably give the option of what to choose. But definitely shouldn't only show 1 monitor with the rest transparent. ** Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screenshot shows transparency instead of other monitor https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/225998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
