Some of these grips are gone at least in 10.04.
Now the most annoying appearance of this grip is in LibreOffice, where clicking
on it opens File menu (or is it unrelated?).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704105] Re: Resize grip always appears in bottom right of GTK+2.0 windows

2012-01-27 Thread Timothy Arceri
The problem is caused by Ubuntu back porting grips to gtk2 (from gtk3).
gtk2 applications have not been written expecting grips to be there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 397552] Re: [Solved 50%] Rhythmbox crash (no sound, but the interface contunue to work) after , and exactly after, 3 song, whatever it play...

2012-01-27 Thread Oscar Rivera
Gabriel, I will try what you suggested. By the way, I have been using Ubuntu
Studio 11.10 and ever since this problem started, I switched to Banshee in
order to listen to music. In prior Ubuntu Studio releases (11.04 and older) I
didn't have this problem.
I already tried the update option and that didn't work, so now I'll try the
re-installation idea. I'll post something here as soon as I find out if the
Re-Installation works or not.
Thanx

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704105] Re: Resize grip always appears in bottom right of GTK+2.0 windows

2012-01-27 Thread Timothy Arceri
Ignore my last post that bug only applys to when the window shouldn't be able
to be resized.
The reasons some grips are gone in 12.04 is probably because the application
have migrated to gtk3 and have disabled grips, this will happen over time and
the problem will disapear.

Resize grip always appears in bottom right of GTK+2.0 windows

Status in “gtk+2.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “gtk2-engines-oxygen” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Since a recent update, in a non-maximised GTK+2.0 window, a resize
grip will always appear in the bottom right of the window. This causes
problems with applications which use the bottom right of the screen,
such as Firefox pop-up windows for video content where the bottom
right of the window is obscured and looks out of place and the
Audacious media player where the total time of a playlist is obscured,
  to give two examples.

I have included pictures of the problem. As the saying goes, a picture
  tells a thousand words.

I use KDE with only essential GTK packages installed and the Oxygen
GTK engine to integrate GTK apps into the Oxygen KDE theme. The same
problem occurs with the Raleigh GTK engine. I am also using Kubuntu
  Natty Alpha 1 with libgtk2.0-0 version 2.23.90-0ubuntu4.

What should happen: No resize grab should show in the window, as
  previous behaviour.

  Workaround
  ==

  Edit ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 and add:

  -
  style default-style
  {
    GtkWindow::resize-grip-height = 0
    GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0
  }

  class GtkWidget style default-style
  -

I am too having this bug on natty with 9.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.11.04.1

Is uninstalling the ubuntu-support package for firefox a fix here?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 881890] Re: the average rating problem

2012-01-27 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
So, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm marking this as Won't Fix for the
reason I alluded to in my previous comment. We plan to order items by
number of users in a Most Downloaded section, because two distinct
ways of exposing interesting things is better than one. Once we do that,
Making Top Rated partly dependent on the number of users would make
the two sections unnecessarily similar. And the perfect is not the enemy
of the good here, because the hard part -- knowing the relative
popularity of each item -- would be the same level of difficulty for
either solution.

50 Best Rated apps in Ubuntu Software Store

  expected results:
since many people are interested in using Firefox and few people are
interested in using Renmina, Firefox should appear above Renmina

  actual results:
although many people are interested in using Firefox and few people are
interested in using Renmina, Firefox appears *way* below Renmina, in other
words, Firefox isn't even a top 50 app, but Renmina is a top 10 app

  comments:
Firefox browses the internet well, Renmina connects to remote desktops
excellently
Firefox does what its author says that it does well, Renmina does what its

This one is about the dialog appearing in the first place -even when

Title:
'Repeat Mode' loops only twice, then stops

Status in Totem Movie Player:
  Unknown
Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
See Bug #907644 for a similar issue with MKV files.

With MP4 and MP3 files, with just one such file on the playlist and
looped (with repeat mode on), the file is played through twice with no
problem, then it just stops at the end. Restarting the video by
double-clicking on the playlist item works.

As in #907644, if you add another file (or another instance of the
same file) to the playlist and let it loop between the two, there's no
problem. But with the single file repeating the bug is 100%
  reproducible. Not reproducible with VLC.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Load an MP3 or MP4 in Totem.
  2. Set 'Repeat Mode' on.
  3. Let the file play through two rounds.

  What happens:
At the end of second play, the playing stops and does not start again by
itself.

  What I expect to happen:
For the file to repeat ad infinitum.

fluid layout width extends too much

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Software Center layout is set to resize to any window size. Besides
the fact that the banner after 1600px (or less) breaks, such a wide
layout is not recommended when you deal with a grid, becomes very
difficult to read line by line. There should probably be a maximum
width for the internal container (1280?) keeping it centred in the
  windows.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 892727] Re: Ubuntu 11.10, very slow to register to a wireless network when using WPA

2012-01-27 Thread Andrey Grigorev
Hello @all,

I confitm the bug. I have Thinkpad T43p running under Ubuntu 11.10 with
GNOME 3, and I also get two windows asking for a WPA password when
trying to connect to my home network.

Can it be somehow related to the KeyRing-Manager (passwords' manager),
which - as I read - has been changed in Gnome 3? Can it be, that user
must activate his KeyRing to enable storing of password?

Greetings from Hamburg,
Andrey

Ubuntu 11.10, very slow to register to a wireless network when using
  WPA

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When connecting to a wireless network, in either Gnome 3 GUI or Ubuntu
Unity, I have found that when connecting to a wireless network using
WPA, the connections hangs, saying 'connecting'

I am asked for the WPA password several times, in what appears to be
in a gnome window followed by a unity ambiance window.

In other words, a window pops up asking for a WPA password, followed
by a second different window asking for the same thing.

It has always been slow to connect, but since the addition of Gnome3
  shell, it now asks twice.

However, it will try to connect for about 5-10 mins. Once connected,
  it then works fine.

  If this helps, my spec:

Save as dialog will be able to consistently log save operations,

I have not been able to right click and add to it's vocabulary.

I get [The spellcheck is complete.] [OK] - click OK..

There are no underlines, my misspellings and typos don't show up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921995] Re: lightdm doesn't start: Maximum number of clients reached

2012-01-27 Thread Lito
The problem seems be unity-greeter.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1871466

I had the same problem, and it was due to unity-greeter segfaulting
(visible in /var/log/kern.log).

I purged unity-greeter and installed lightdm-gtk-greeter, and modified
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to use greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter.

It works.

  3) What you expected to happen

Expected that if a word is misspelled or unfamiliar to it's
vocabulary, that it will have a red underline, so I will be able to
  tell and fix it.

I have not been able to right click and add to it's vocabulary.

Tools - Spelling and Grammar - [Continue checking at beginning of document?]
[Yes] [No] - clicking Yes,
I get [The spellcheck is complete.] [OK] - click OK..
but there are no word in Not in dictionary and nothing got checked.

  4) What happened instead

There are no underlines, my misspellings and typos don't show up.
  Tools Spelling Grammar does nothing.

I couldn't update vocabulary when the red underlines did work.

I almost sent a a legal document with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 922577] [NEW] evolution is ignoring fontsize after clicking on send

2012-01-27 Thread Michael Basse
Public bug reported:

i set the font-size on evolution on 8pt. Which is working fine (see

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884628] Re: Cannot login using SIPE, working in pidgin though

2012-01-27 Thread Dirk Heinrichs
I see the same problem in telepathy-kde from the Telepathy KDE PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~telepathy-kde/+archive/ppa). SIPE/Office
Communicator protocol works fine in Pidgin, but Telepathy is unable to
connect with the same connection data.

So it seems the problem is not in empathy, but somewhere in the
underlying telepathy framework.

But I'm going to give Kubuntu and Linux Mint a try, because even though I

to really annoy me :(

2012-01-27 Thread Christoph Korn
1. Open any text document with nautilus in gedit.
2. Open any text document with a terminal gedit test.txt

The second step opens a new instance here.

At least this is how I can reproduce this.

I think I've already done so above, but:

1. I click on gedit icon in unity, an instance opens
2. I double click on a text file in nautilus, another instance opens.

Thanks,

Josef.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871573] Re: Auto-join on connect checkbox does not behave like a checkbox

2012-01-27 Thread bubbasan
An alternative while waiting for this to be fixed is manually editing
the ~/.xchat2/servlist_.conf file.

Edit the J= line with all the autojoin channels that you want.

Title:
Auto-join on connect checkbox does not behave like a checkbox

Status in “xchat-gnome” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Right-click on a channel name in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Auto-join on connect checkbox.
  3. Select it again.

  Expected behavior:
-Checkbox becomes checked after Step 2 above.
-Checkbox becomes unchecked after Step 3 above, resulting in the channel
being removed from the auto-join list.

  Actual behavior:
-Checkbox remains unchecked, although the channel is added to the auto-join
list (as found in the Users and Channels tab of Network Properties).
-For each additional click on the checkbox, a repeat entry is added to the
auto-join list.

Note: The next checkbox item in that context menu, Show join/part
  messages, works as expected.

Well, we've gone off topic (sorry everyone), but AFAIK e.g. KDE (and I
assume Kubuntu?) doesn't use nautilus as it's file manager.

Cheers,

Screen not locked when coming out of suspend/hibernate

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  (Bug-reporting newbie here)

For the first time ever, I was not prompted for a password when I
opened the lid of my laptop and resumed suspend. I have not been able
to replicate it again since, but is sounds like a potentially serious
security bug. I updated Ubuntu two days ago (I think) with the default
suggested updates, and again today. So, I guess that either:

  1) If it was a bug due to the older update, it may now be fixed by the newer
update.
  2) The problem may still be there, but has not showed up yet, due to it being
a randomly appearing bug.

I'd be happy to run any tests you want me to.

The computer is a 5 year old Dell XPS m1210 with GeForce graphics card
(everything default except now using a Vertex 2 SSD) running Ubuntu
11.10, on which I've had ubuntu since Hardy. I have never experienced
  this bug before.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921688] Re: Can't remove Last.fm radio

2012-01-27 Thread Pierre Rudloff
I am talking about the Last.fm playlists (radios that you can create by going
into Library (left pane) Last.fm, enter some artist name in the Similar to
Artist field and then click on Create Station.
Then it adds a playlist/radio under Last.fm in the library pane but :
- You can't right click on it.
- Edit Remove is disabled
- Backspace does nothing
