[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1027209] Re: Software center launcher integration - cancelled install is not removed from launcher

2012-08-18 Thread Bilal Akhtar
This seems like a software-center bug. Icons aren't sent anymore at the
start of installation, and it seems like Software Center sends the
AddLauncherIcon call AFTER the cancellation is complete.

** Also affects: software-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1025935] Re: Thunderbird 14.0 scrollbars have a wrong background [regression]

2012-08-18 Thread John Lloyd-Jones
I have the same symptoms as #5: the slider in invisible, but does
respond to mouse clicks and drags. I am running aa new installation of
Precise with the KDE desktop. Note that the symptom didn't appear on
another laptop that had been upgraded from Oneiric. Thunderbird is a
clean install of 14 -- not upgraded from previous versions. Firefox has
no issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 855556] Re: "Restart" and "Shut Down" don't work if anyone else is logged in

2012-08-18 Thread parq
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 861171 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861171

Workaround:

Edit the file
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy using your
favorite text editor. You will need root permissions.

Change the section relating to shutdown when others are logged in from

Stop the system when multiple users are logged in
System policy prevents stopping the system when other users are
logged in

  no
  auth_admin_keep

to

Stop the system when multiple users are logged in
System policy prevents stopping the system when other users are
logged in

  no
  yes

and the section relating to rebooting when others are logged in from

Restart the system when multiple users are logged
in
System policy prevents restarting the system when other users are
logged in

  no
  auth_admin_keep

to

Restart the system when multiple users are logged
in
System policy prevents restarting the system when other users are
logged in

  no
  yes

And that will allow you (any user) shutdown and reboot the PC when
multiple users are logged in. Whether you want to do that is a different
question.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 559658] Re: Music residing on GVFS mounted SMB shares won't be imported

2012-08-18 Thread Attilio Pannella
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 404218 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404218

I experienced the same problem with gvfs!
For quite some time I had been using automount for my samba shares and
importing all my music from my samba server into rhythmbox was working fine.
Since I decided to get rid of automount and use gvfs to mount my shares
instead, I started having this import problem as well (I'm currently using
rhythmbox version 2.97 provided with Ubuntu 12.04).
Just to play, I decided to use my old automount mountpoints and actually change
them to symbolic links to my gvfs entries.
In such a case, having chosen the symbolic link as the import folder, rhythmbox
is now re-importing the files properly back again (and yes, I scratched the old
database beforehand).
I hope this could be of some help for both troubleshooting and as a temporary
dirty workaround for users.

Title:
Firefox's configured search engines overwritten after upgrade

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After every upgrade I lose my configured search engines and there are
new engines I never configured to be there, or my configured engines
are out of order along with the new engines. This is annoying and I'm
fed up with it. There are other reported bugs (for example #858683),
but those seem to note a problem when switching between Ubuntu
versions. This is not the case. This is between Firefox versions and
has been occurring me since a long time ago.

Title:
Additional Drivers feature is behaving strangely

Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On my laptop with AMD E-450 processor, I see that Additional drivers
suggest 2 options for graphics drivers.

  * Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators
  * ATI Fire GL

I selected "Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators" and it
installed activated it. However after reboot I see that "ATI Fire GL"
is activated. When I click on it, I see "This driver is activated but
not currently in use" and "Video driver for the AMD graphics
  accelerators" NOT active.

I re-activate ""Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators" and
apply, I see that it is deactivated after reboot.

I am not sure why this is suppose to be so confusing. Cant there be
only a single option which is AMD graphics accelerator driver?

  What happens :

Brightness changing seems broken on my MSI wind U 100.

First in GDM it starts flashing for a good 30 seconds and then the
same problem happened when the Gnome session begins.

Whenever I try to manually change the brightness a bit too fast
(using the sliders or the keyboard) it start flashing again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1036965] Re: Apport silently fails to file bug reports

2012-08-18 Thread quequotion
You have to be kidding me. Did you mark this bug invalid?

Did you even read it?

That is NOT acceptable behavior for apport.

It should say something if that is what it's going to do.

There is no message to the user whatsoever.

If I didn't know how to dig through the apport logs I'd never even know
what happened.

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => New

--

Title:
Apport silently fails to file bug reports

Status in “apport” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've had lots of problems since installing 12.04, but managed to work
around most of them and install fixes whenever they were finally
released. It probably would have sped things up a great deal however,
if apport had been there to help me. Unfortunately it hasn't about 80%
  of the time.

Apport often pops up to ask me about a "system error" of one kind or
another, and if I'd like to file a bug report. Most often I say yes,
leave the box checked and click continue.

Apport gets through the "gathering information" phase, and asks for
final confirmation to send the report, while informing me that I will
be taken to launchpad to provide further details.

I never get taken to launchpad.

The bug report is never filed.

The gathered info is probably lost.

This is happening MOST OF THE TIME with bugs caught by apport. On at
least one occasion I was able to find the bundle of info apport
collected wherein I discovered that reporting the bug had been
  cancelled for some reason.

  1. I would REALLY like to be informed when my bug report will be
  denied and WHY.

  2. Apport should never refuse to file a bug report, ever. That is
extremely discouraging to helpless users who are experiencing real
problems when the computer says "Sorry, no I just won't help you."
which is exactly what apport is saying when it won't file a bug. At
the very least apport should lead the user through steps to get the
bug ready for reporting or to find an already reported bug like what
  they are experiencing.

I have noticed a disturbing trend in Launchpad to dismiss inconvienient bugs.

This is a rather inconvenient bug, as fixing it may mean a lot of new
  bug reports.

It also means more satisfied users.

Do not let this bug suffer the fate of bug 178398 or bug 313436.
Both bugs closed for lack of information and lack of response from the
reporter.

Whoever reported those bugs probably gave up on Ubuntu and went
  elswhere.

This is not an invalid or unimportant bug.

It is a real bug, and it is critical.

2012-08-18 Thread Robert Roth
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1019245 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019245

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug #1019245, so it is being marked as such. Please look at
the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you
can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in
the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may
find.

I am marking this as a duplicate of a more recent bug, as the other has
already been reported upstream.

Graphical errors on charts in resources tab (faded bands)

Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my system, the charts on the system monitor resources tab are
  displayed with some graphical errors.

The most obvious manifestation seems to be faded bands along the
charted lines, though there is also extra white around the chart area
(rather than the grey of the window background). The chart labels also
end up quite blurry and hard to read. Sometimes the pink line for
memory usage seems to hover horizontally right in one of the faded
  areas, and becomes nearly invisible.

Bizarrely, the problem is sometimes only present on one of my
monitors. The screenshot I have attached was taken straddling the two
monitors; the zone on the left appears normal, while the zone on the
right is noticeably affected. Dragging the system monitor between the
two monitors causes the issue to appear and disappear. However, other
times there is no difference and the system monitor is affected
equally no matter which monitor it is on.

Status in “gcalctool” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
gcalctool 6.2.0-0ubuntu2 is a great tool to copy, past and calculate
formula from a document. Normally, false syntax causes a error
message, for example "1+1W+1" --> ERROR. That is OK.

But the result of "1+1Ω+1" is NOT "error" but "2"!

The charakter above is "Omega", but it is the same with other special
characters, for example "no-break space". All characters after the
  special charakter are ignored.

By the way: A nice feature after fix this bug: Immediately marking red

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1037427] Re: gnome-system-monitor terminates with SEGV

2012-08-18 Thread Greg Webber
Firstly, running make install makes the problem go away. I assume the
developers do a make install before testing?

Responses to your questions:

* Could you please check if /usr/share/gnome-system-monitor/ contains 5 .ui
files?
No, only preferences.ui per the below. It should just be the 12.04 version of
gnome-system-monitor.

gsw@goat:~$ ls -al /usr/share/gnome-system-monitor/
total 60
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 15 23:24 .
drwxr-xr-x 334 root root 12288 Aug 17 15:10 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 43638 Apr 17 15:00 preferences.ui

* How did you build gnome-system-monitor?
Built with debugging on to enable trace with gdb per below command.

./configure CFLAGS=-g

* Did you use make install?
No. As shown above attempting to run this directly from the build directory
after straight 'make'.

* Did you specify --prefix=/usr when using autogen.sh?
No.

I'm a complete Gnome n00b so any assistance would be helpful.
Hopefully it's just something silly like the way I've built it or

answer the question, so we can fix the bug properly.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

If a process has very long command line there is no way to view it

  b) by adding column "Arguments" to the process view,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1037427] Re: gnome-system-monitor terminates with SEGV

2012-08-18 Thread Robert Roth
I usually run make install, but also configure with --prefix=/devel (this way
make install will install my locally built version into
/devel/bin/gnome-system-monitor, thus I will always have a working version, in
/usr = the one installed with the OS, and one I have built in /devel)
The reason for this is that the one installed with 12.04 only had
preferences.ui, while lp:gnome-system-monitor is not the repository for that
version, but is the upstream trunk, so it differs in quite a few things, and is
unstable, as trunks always are. If you want to gdb the version from 12.04, you
will have to bzr branch lp:ubuntu/precise/gnome-system-monitor, which is the
source for the precise version.
If you need any more system-monitor related help, let me know, maybe I can help.

IN the meantime, I am closing this report as Invalid, as this is not a
bug in the precise version of Gnome System Monitor.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1038438] Re: firefox crashes because of "Global Menu Bar Integration" plugin

2012-08-18 Thread Jason Robinson
Been very annoyed at this for a while, finally decided to investigate
what it was - couldn't use HUD at all and no update has fixed this. Been
broken for some weeks at least? I have two Ubuntu laptops and Firefox
synced between both - both are affected by this bug.

Firefox running in debugger output for crash:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1038432] [NEW] Additional Drivers feature is behaving strangely....

2012-08-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On my laptop with AMD E-450 processor, I see that Additional drivers
suggest 2 options for graphics drivers.

* Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators
* ATI Fire GL

I selected "Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators" and it
installed activated it. However after reboot I see that "ATI Fire GL" is
activated. When I click on it, I see "This driver is activated but not
currently in use" and "Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators"
NOT active.

I re-activate ""Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators" and
apply, I see that it is deactivated after reboot.

I am not sure why this is suppose to be so confusing. Cant there be only
a single option which is AMD graphics accelerator driver?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034594] Re: zenity --question --timeout returns 5 when click yes

2012-08-18 Thread Stefan Du Rietz
I also get 5 when choosing OK, but (correctly) get 1 when pressing ESC
or canceling with Xubuntu 12.04. In earlier Xubuntu versions it was
correct.

Title:
zenity --question --timeout returns 5 when click yes

Status in “zenity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The man page says:

"For example, zenity --question will return either 0, 1 or 5,
depending on whether the user pressed OK, Cancel or timeout has been
reached. zenity --entry will output on standard output what the user
typed into the text entry field."

  however, for the following

  $ zenity --question --title="Title" --text="Click yes" --timeout=6
  $ echo $?
  5

one can see that zenity returns 5 instead of 0 if you click the Yes
  (OK) button.

Without --timeout, zenity returns 0 when you click Yes.

The man page also is incorrect because the buttons are labeled No and Yes (in
that order, left to right),
  not OK or Cancel.

Also, pressing ESC is typically equivalent to canceling a dialog, but in the
latter case, zenity returns 0
(as if I had selected Yes) instead of 0 (No/Cancel)

Title:
False result after special character input

Status in “gcalctool” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
gcalctool 6.2.0-0ubuntu2 is a great tool to copy, past and calculate
formula from a document. Normally, false syntax causes a error
message, for example "1+1W+1" --> ERROR. That is OK.

But the result of "1+1Ω+1" is NOT "error" but "2"!

The charakter above is "Omega", but it is the same with other special
characters, for example "no-break space". All characters after the
  special charakter are ignored.

By the way: A nice feature after fix this bug: Immediately marking red
and ignoring all caracters which not needed for calculation. For
  example: 12 V x 2 A --> 24.
