Title:
[3.11.1 regression] wrong color depth when saving images

Status in Simple Scan:
  Fix Released
Status in “simple-scan” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Today I scanned an image whose saved JPG result was totally ugly, with
just 16 colors or so. This didn't happen last week yet (and I dist-
upgrade trusty daily). Hence I suppose this is a regression in

  simple-scan (3.11.1-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

* New upstream release:
  - Fix page size not being applied on some drivers
  - Rewrite autosaving. Now uses files for scan data, is more efficient in
writing to disk and drops dependency on sqlite.
* debian/control:
  - Drop build-depends on libsqlite3-dev

   -- Robert Ancell robert.anc...@canonical.com Fri, 01 Nov 2013
  11:51:48 -0700

The preview looks alright, but the saved image (attached) looks like
  Tetris.

This is with a Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 (but that shouldn't matter as
the preview is fine and xsane etc. work fine, too).

I'm using Ubuntu 9.4 and Evolution 2.26.1 and it appeared to be getting a

structure and all my emails missing. After a few mins opening a second
Evolution mail window it recovers them but added 6 empty directories that I
cannot look in, delete or modify. I captured the screen shot and included it.

Bug description:
This sound card (Realtek ALC892) is 7.1 channel capable via the digital out
(SPDIF).
However, Ubuntu is not recognizing it as such and on the sound configuration
we can only see the stereo parameters (right and left).
As you can see in the attached picture, the rear and subwoofer parameters are
grayed out, as if the card didn't support it.

I have connected it to a 5.1 amplifier and played a DTS suround file.
Unfortunately the sound coming out is simply stereo. No 5.1 surround.

ftp://user:passw...@ftp.domain.com are not displayed as one clickable link if
the username contains the sign '_' (underscore).

  Current behaviour:

the end.

  Expected behaviour:
One clickable link for the entire url.

  1. Set Edit Preferences Mail Preferences HTML Messages Plain Text
Mode to Prefer plain or Only ever show plain
  2. Send a plain text email to you self. the body contains
ftp://u_ser:passw...@ftp.domain.com

  VERSION: Ubuntu 9.04, Evolution 2.26.1-0ubuntu2

PROBLEM: Evolution does not automatically load images in emails sent
by people in one of my contacts lists. I receive a lot of HTML
mailings, and since I don't want it to automatically load all images I
selected the option Load images in messages from contacts, and then
started adding the email addresses I was receiving mailings from to a
separate address book. Unfortunately this does not seem to work, and I
have to hit Ctrl-I to load images every time, even when viewing the
same message in a later Evolution session.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: Evolution should load the images automatically, and
should not have to reload them when viewing the same email a separate
  time.

PROPOSED SOLUTION: An always load images from this address button
  like in Thunderbird maybe?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * There are many Bluetooth devices with battery information inside.
When they are treated as system battery, it will make the system
poweroff/suspend/hibernate when some Bluetooth device has critical low
battery. It is a very annoying behavior for the users. Originally,
there is no such Bluetooth battery information until Ubuntu 12.04
brings linux-quantal-lts and linux-raring-lts, so those linux kernels
  also bring this issue.

  [Test Case]

   * Pair some Bluetooth devices, such as Apple Wireless Mouse or Apple
Wireless Keyboard.
   * Click the power indicator and you can find Apple Wireless Mouse is listed
as system battery, and there is no Apple Wireless Keyboard. If you open
gnome-power-statistics, you can find the 'Supply' field of Apple Wireless Mouse
is 'Yes' but it should not be.

  [Regression Potential]

   * There is no obvious regression as I know.

  [Other Info]

   * Most patches are from upstream, modified to fix the conflicts, and made by
the same developer (i.e. fourdollars).
   * We need another patch from
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=d0a934b764c67b4bf626f5b7cf725a6e3066afd2
to make Apple Wireless Keyboard showing.

  [Original Bug Description]

This is a weird one... the system is an HP Pavilion 23 All In One and
is powered by a large power supply brick.

I currently have an Apple Magic Mouse connected via Bluetooth. As
soon as the mouse is connected, the Battery indicator shows up and
clicking on that shows that the system is reading my mouse as a
  battery!

See the attached screen shot for what I see in the Power status.

  Looking at hcitool:
  ubuntu@201206-11396:~$ hcitool dev
  Devices:
   hci0 9C:B7:0D:80:71:DB

To make matters even more weird, I actually observed the battery
indicator go from full to Critically Low and the system suspended
itself. Keep in mind, again, that this system has NO battery, it's
reading my bluetooth mouse as a battery device.

I disconnected the magic mouse and the battery indicator went to Empty
Red outline and status showed Battery Disconnected.

I started the Evolution email client as I previously used to on my

there was the existing .evolution directory with the complete correct
configuration, email folders etc. The ubuntu Evolution started the
initial configuration procedure IGNORING THE EXISTING CONFIGURATION.
It DELETED ALL MY EXISTING CONFIGURATION WITH MY EMAILS ETC.

Fortunately I have had a fresh backup of this directory somewhere.

Bug description:

  VERSION: Ubuntu 9.04, Evolution 2.26.1-0ubuntu2

PROBLEM: I have a dark GTK theme running in GNOME, which uses white
text on black backgrounds. When receiving HTML email, I sometimes find
that it's been formatted such that it's using the default color
(white) but is on top of a white background or background image, which
  makes it impossible to read.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: Choosing a dark system theme should not make emails
  impossible to read.

PROPOSED SOLUTION: Unsure! I'm considering using Greasemonkey scripts
to work around this problem in Epiphany (see bug #288628,
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/epiphany-browser/+bug/288628

When I mark an email (I'm using GMail) as read in Evolution the email
is not marked as read when I check GMail via browser.

I have checked value of sync_interval in gconf-editor -- it is set to
  30. So I wait 30s - do a refresh on GMail web page - still remains
  unread.

If I exit Evolution then everything seems to sync up everytime but I
would expect it not have to exit Evolution for syncing to occur.

I saw at this link below that this user found it fixed in Jaunty but
  not the case for me.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/364031

Happens everytime. Have even tried to re-install evolution, evolution-
  common packages.

Hi Tormod,

I'm happy to tell you that the problem is now fixed. I'm writing from
the affected computer. The latest version (xf86-video-savage-2.3.7-1 +
savage-dri-7.11.2-5) has fully sort it out now. So, I owe you a million
thanks:

100 x Thanks!

Let me tell you that I appreciate the effort and time you've spent in
the resolution of this issue.

Best regards,
Carlos

Bug description:
  [Impact]
For xserver-xorg-video-savage: Display corruption in X on all Savage-equipped
laptops such as Thinkpad T22, making the system unusable.
For xorg-server: System lockup on boot.

  [Test Case]
Attempt to boot a system with one of the affected Savage cards; the Thinkpad
T22 is at least one such system.

The display will be corrupted beyond usability.

Install xserver-xorg-video-savage and xserver-xorg-core from proposed,
and you should have a usable X session.

  [Regression Potential]
The X server patch touches only the DRI1 initialisation codepath; this is not
used for the vast majority of systems, so breakage is low-impact. Breakage here
would most likely manifest as an Xserver crash on startup. (Most likely any
driver using DRI1 is broken without this patch, but since DRI1 is mostly used
for mesa and our mesa does not support DRI1 any longer, this is not very
visible. However, the savage driver uses DRI1 for 2D acceleration as well.)

The savage patch switches the default acceleration method to EXA (from
XAA) and adds some fixes to EXA support. We don't build XAA support
into the X server any more, so switching away from it means enabling
EXA acceleration(*), which can cause pretty much arbitrary problems,
but is unlikely to. In any case, problems would be restricted to users
  of xserver-xorg-video-savage.

*) The build-without-XAA fallback to no acceleration is broken, so EXA
is the best way out of this. EXA has been reported to work well, and
is now enabled by default upstream (the patches in this report are
from upstream). The user can still disable (EXA) acceleration in
xorg.conf, which should work out fine when done this way.

  [Original Report]

When installing 12.10 on our Thinkpad T22 laptops the display does not work.
12.04 works fine.
  xserver-xorg-video-s3 is version 1:0.6.5-0ubuntu1
  xserver-xorg-video-savage is version 1:2.3.6-0ubuntu1
I don't know if these are the packages involved but they are the ones that I
suspect may be involved.
This T22 model (and many other thinkpads from that era) use the S3 Savage
IX8 chipsets.

Using the info from this link makes the display work.

  evolution hangs while sending email

Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool:

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

  Hi,

Note, this problem has only come up, after I upgraded my laptop from
  ubuntu intrepid to jaunty.

I seem to have an intermittent problem (4 out of 5 times) where
sending an email will result in evolution hanging. When I send an
email, the status bar indicates that it's sending the email, and goes
from 0% to 100%, then it seems to stay there. The x displayed on
the status bar seems to be disabled (or it's just unresponsive). If I
click the Sent folder, to see if the message has been sent, then a
number of messages are displayed on the status bar, one of them
indicating some synchronisation is in progress, but the list of emails
is not displayed. Then evolution becomes unresponsive (i.e. clicking
on other widows, etc fails to show messages), and I'm unable to
terminate evolution through the normal means.

Once the problem occurs, I can kill evolution by killing all the
evolution processes. Once I restart, the message is shown in the
Output folder, the message is seen in the Sent folder but it keeps
being resent, in fact, the message gets resent, everytime evolution is
restarted. The only way, I can stop the message being resent, is if I
delete the message myself from the Output folder.

  Things, I have tried:
  - I had my home folder setup as a mounted usb drive. I thought this issue
might be timing related, hence I thought that slower access to the usb drive
might be a problem, so I have now moved my home drive to my laptop drive.
  - I noticed some existing bugs with regards to tracker, so I have removed
tracker using the synaptic package manager.
  - I noticed some existing bugs with regards to the exchange plugins, so I
have removed them using the synaptic package manager.
  - I noticed some existing bugs with IMAP, so I have disabled all my email
accounts (gmail, IMAP), and now it is only setup to use my main mail account
(yahoo).
  - I've googled for similar bugs, but there doesn't seem to be any recent ones
that seem similar.

What I'm thinking of doing next (but will wait for advice):
  - Re-installing ubuntu
  - Re-installing ubuntu, renaming the .evolution folder and importing my
existing mail folders manually

  Cheers
  Vince

Evolution has a (great) feature where when replying to a message, it
removes the signature of the sender of the original message (keeping
only the discussion being replied to, with minimum amount of noise).

This feature works great when replying to a text message, but when
replying to an HTML formatted message Evolution does not remove the
  signature.

  How to reproduce:
  1. Set a signature for the current account which starts with a line that has
the text -- (notice the space after the double dash).
  2. Send yourself an email in HTML format.
  3. Reply to the email - the signature will remain in the reply

Following the same steps but with a text email, and the signature will
not be shown in the reply.

Follow-up mail looses follow-up marker when moved between IMAP folders

Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool:
  Confirmed
Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Mark an e-mail as follow-up in the inbox
  - Move it to an arbitrary folder

  Result:
  - original mail with the follow-up marker is in trash
  - copied mail is in the arbitrary folder

  Expected:
  - mail with follow-up marker in the arbitrary folder
(- no mail in trash, as discussed in #110272)

  Possible reason:
This is probably related to the fact that moving is implemented as
copy-delete. Having read #110272 , I did find the still marked e-mail in the
trash folder. Too bad, because follow-ups in trash are not shown in search
folders (I created one that shows me all follow-up mail).

  Possible solutions:
  - to implement copying of follow-up markers within the copy action
  - if #110272 is regarded as a bug and if it gets fixed resulting in
implementing a real move action (not copy-delete), then moving follow-up
markers should be implemented there

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1014897] Re: [sound-nua] sound preference does not provide ac3 passthrough spdif in 5.1 speaker test

2013-11-06 Thread David Henningsson
About PulseAudio, S/PDIF ac3 output:

PulseAudio does not ship an ac3 encoder by default (I believe it is for patent
reasons).
As such there is no way we can output ac3 in speaker test dialog (and we don't
ship pre-encoded 5.1 sample wavs either).

As for passthrough support, should be working fairly well in 13.10
(although I have never tested it), but if the input is encoded, there's
nothing we can do w r t changing the volumes, as the stream is just
passing through in encoded format.

Is this answering your question?

Bug description:

When I send a shell script text as Attachment to my friend's email, he
received an error file, I meant, my Attachment, a shell script, is
unexpectedly changed, which I can tell with the command
  $ diff   file.origfile.other
this should not happen, I think.

this bug maybe replicated like fellow:

  1. download my Attachment with this bug report.
  2. decompression the Attachment, you will get two files:
msgforme.orig -- the original shell script
msgforme.new -- the shell script that my friend received
you can tell the difference between the two files using the command 'diff'
  3. now you can use your evolution to send an email to your other mailbox
(called mailboxB) with an Attachment of my shell script file msgforme.orig
without compressing.
  4. then you go to the web, say, use your firefox to receive the email with
mailboxB, and download the Attachment.
  5. And now you will see the diff between the new file you downloaded just now
and the original file.

  more infomation for you:
I use gmail as server and evolution as client, I send my file to other
mailbox(not gmail), and the Attachment file should/may be a shell script file
without compressing. Then this bug occur.

I do the same thing, say, send an email to my friend with the
attachment(without compressing) above using the firefox with the same
mail server(gmail), This bug didn't occur.

and I did a lot of tests like sending the email from one mail box the
another, finally I found that it is exactly the problem of evolution.

that's all. I wish this problem be fixed quickly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 263435]

2013-11-06 Thread Mozilla-z
Created attachment 827318
PoC patch for both winless and windowed plugins. (Windows)

This proposal is a sensible workaround (as a complete solution would
require the collaboration of every single plugin developer, which
doesn't seem feasible) for Windows. Is my understanding that OSX is
not affected, and a solution already exists for GNU/Linux, please
correct me if I'm wrong.

I've implemented two different strategies, one for plugins running in
its own window, and the other for the winless ones. The first one
installs a keyboard hook, which looks for well known keystrokes, and
passes the focus to the main window when one is found. The second
passes all key events to both the plugin and the DOM, except for the
ones which generates movement events (arrow keys, space,
pageup/pagedown...).

This patch is intended as a Proof-of-Concept, it needs betters
comments, an approved list of keystrokes to watch, and (probably) the
ability to be enabled/disabled via about:config. But I wanted to
obtain early feedback from the devs prior to investing more work on
it.

Bug description:

Firefox cannot close tab (using Ctrl-w) or switch to next tab (using
Ctrl-Tab) when flash content is selected on page.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Open a new Tab
  2) Go to a website with flash content (in this case youtube.com)
  3) Selected the flash content by clicking on it (in this case click on play)

close the tab)

Result: The shortcut is not registered by firefox, the tab remains open

A good way of knowing that selecting the flash content is at the

Bug description:

The Firefox 4 browser in 11.04 doesn't use Unitys scrollbars (the light ones
with the up/down button showing as soon as you move the mouse pointer over it).
  Instead, it uses standard scrollbars.

I believe this is an inconsistency in the UI, as other programs (e.g.
  Nautilus) show them correctly.

I have a e-mail message on my mailserver that when retrieved makes evolution
spit out a localized but very unclear error.
The error massage is attached to this bug, English translation would be
something like:

  Error during message retrieval.
  No output stream

Anyway, Evolution fails to retrieve the e-mail and any other e-mail on this
account. (it's a pop3 account) Another imap account keeps functioning.
Moving this specific e-mail to trash (on the server via webmail) works as a
workaround, Evolution can retrieve other mail for the account. Moving the mail
back from trash to the inbox again makes Evolution error out.

Starting Evolution from the command line won't generate errors that are
clearly linked to the failed retrieval of this e-mail.
I removed Evolution via Synaptic (keeping configuration) and reinstalled,
problem remains the same.

What can I do to help triage this bug? Is there a detailed error log
for Evolution? There is a basic error log available mentioning the
errors but it has no further details.

Using Ubuntu Karmic UNR on a Samsung NC10, evolution starts fine and
displays correctly on the Mail page initially but after switching to
the calendar page AND back to Mail, the display goes wrong and part of
the app underneath is shown between the title bar (maximus style) and
the evolution menu. Attempting to restore and maximize has no effect
and it is only by closing and reopening evolution that the display
  comes back to normal.

Given the limited size of the netbook screen, this cancels the
advantage provided by the UNR/maximus style approach.

  Attachement illustrate the issue.

Step1: Evolution-Mail-1 (When evolution is started)
Step2: Evolution-Calendar-1 (Switching to the Calendar page)
Step3: Evolution-Mail-2 (Switching back to Mail with the top of the screen
showing background image)
Step4: Evolution-Mail-3 (After switching to another app (Anutilus) the top of
the screen shows Nautilus menus)

  =
  http://www.physics.wustl.edu/~alford/thinkpad/T23_F17.html

  Xorg :1 -configure
  # ignore Configuration Failed message
  cp xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file: uncomment Option DisableTile in the
Section Device that contains the Savage driver options.

create an address book in evolution and I can get all my google contacts. I
can edit google contacts in evolution and those changes are sync'd with google.
I can make changes in google and those changes are sync'd (eventually) with
Evolution.

I am not able to ADD a new google contact in Evolution.

I click on New Contact, which brings up the Contact Editor window. I
fill in some details (name, email) for a contact, then I click OK. I
receive an error dialog box that says:

  Error adding Contact other error

The contact is not added and the Contact Editor window remains open.
I cannot copy contacts from other address books into the Google
address book or create new contacts.

Please try to attach the attached PDF to a mail in evolution. After
selecting the file, it will take about 2 minutes before it shows up in
the email in which evolution is totally unresponsive.

I believe that the reason is that evolution tries to generate a
thumbnail for the file at all costs. This takes quite a while though,
because the PDF is very complex (even though it is quite small). I
think it might be a good idea to abort the thumbnail generation if it
  takes more than 2 seconds.

I think this bug is not a duplicate of bug 393536, because my system
stays responsive and I don't notice any excessive memory consumption.

Evolution resize view settings not persistent

Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool:

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

On a clean install of 32 bit Ubuntu karmic beta updated through 14
October, 2009, Evolution does not remember resizing its view settings.
  Using 1680 x 1050 resolution.

  Steps to reproduce:
Open Evolution, click to make window full screen.
Click View Preview Show message preview is checked and select
Vertical View.

Arrange the sizes of the areas to your preference. The Inbox on the
left side is made a little wider, the messages area has to be made
much wider, making the message preview area smaller.

If you minimize and then maximze the window, all is as it should be.

If you close Evolution and reopen it, it will remember the size of the
inbox area, but the messages area is back to too narrow to read and
  must be resized again.

This behaviour persists every time Evolution is closed and restarted.

Expected behaviour is to have the application remember resized display areas
when application is restarted.
What happened instead is the sizes of some display areas are reset to (too
small) default settings on application restart.

I have attached 2 screen shots to demonstrate the bug.

Evolution has a great feature where you can reply to a small part of
an email by selecting only the needed part and using the reply
function. This works very well for plain text emails, but for HTML
emails the selected part becomes the quoted part of a new HTML email,
but all the line breaks of the original message (new lines, br/
tags) are stripped off so you see the original email as one long line
  - regardless of how many lines or paragraphs the selected text
  contains.

This makes replying to long HTML messages a tedious process where I
have to debate if I rather select the text I want to reply to and then
spend time putting back the line breaks where I remember them to be,
or just reply to everything and edit away what I don't need.

If there is an exchange account set up within evolution, then when
evolution-alarm-notify starts, it tries to access the gnome-keyring in
order to get appointment information from the exchange server.
However, if the user hits denies this access (or uses allow once”),
it will continue asking, up to about 10 times, with a slightly
  different username format each time.

This is really annoying behaviour. This prompt should appear at most
once. It would be preferable if it didn’t appear at all, especially
if the password wasn’t actually stored in gnome-keyring in the first

Repeatedly set paper to A4, but when printing to a HP Laserjet 4+ with
PostScript card, insists on requiring US Letter paper. I have tried to
set a consistent A4 paper across the whole system, but still appears
to not take across the whole system. This problem seems to also
involve Evince, which is invoked for the printing. The printing works
when I print to the HP Laserjet 4P instead, which does not have
PostScript. I am currently running Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, nominally up to

  Distribution: Jaunty
  Evolution version: 2.26.1

  Debian upstream related bug:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531437

I use IMAP for connection to my email server.

When Evolution is fetching my new mail I get an error message saying
  in German:

  Fehler bei »Ordner wird aufgefrischt«.
Offline-Journal für Ordner »INBOX« konnte nicht geschrieben werden: Success

  which translates to:

  Error while Refreshing folder.
Cannot write offline journal for folder 'INBOX': Success

Actually Evolution succeeds to fetch my new mails but I experience two
problems:

  1. I cannot move Emails from one folder to another inside my mail account
  2. When closing Evolution it is taking a loong time

Deactivated all Offline feature for every folder and account, still Evolution
will not stop bugging me with above error messages and problems.

In above mentioned Debian bug report the workaround is to delete the
  Evolution folder and restart again.

Starting evolution from a terminal I will get this output:

Bug description:

  Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)
  Evolution 2.28.1
IMAP - confirmed with Gmail and local ISP mail server

I have set folders to be marked for offline synchronisation, as well
as enabling the automatic synchronisation option. Have synchronised
for offline use and switched offline, and synchronised again when
prompted. Many emails are not available when offline, and network
usage indicates that not much has been downloaded. Have attempted on
two different systems, both using Karmic. This is very important to
me as this is the main reason to use Evolution, as I currently have no
other way to backup an IMAP email folder.

Seems to happen on large email accounts. Tried on a small email
account, and seems to have worked. On large email accounts, it seems
only a small number of random emails are downloaded.

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This sound card (Realtek ALC892) is 7.1 channel capable via the digital out
(SPDIF).
However, Ubuntu is not recognizing it as such and on the sound configuration
we can only see the stereo parameters (right and left).
As you can see in the attached picture, the rear and subwoofer parameters are
grayed out, as if the card didn't support it.

I have connected it to a 5.1 amplifier and played a DTS suround file.
Unfortunately the sound coming out is simply stereo. No 5.1 surround.
