  Ubuntu 19.10

  1. In the Settings app, Dock(Dash) screen, there should be an "Application 
Menu Style" option. The user could select: Full screen, Horizontal, or Vertical.
  2. The ability to choose the application menu style. I would prefer a 
horizontal applications menu.
  3. A full screen application menu is the only option.

Yesterday were a lot of updates in samba package and now

all is out of work, nothing goes on, nix geht mehr.

Connection to the server fails completely, that ist very bad, more then
the printer bug.

  I have two URLs configured for Firefox startup.  They are for
  different sites.  Each one will go to a login page.  I have a master
  password configured in Firefox.  When I start Firefox, two tabs will
  open to the two URLs, and up until recently, I was prompted once for
  my master password.  Once I entered it, my credentials would auto-fill
  on both tabs as expected.  Today I noticed that on Firefox startup, I
  was getting two master password prompts.  Although entering the master
  password for one would suffice, it is annoying to have to close out
  the second one.  Also, the second one often pops up and steals focus
  from the first when I am entering the master password (depending on
  the relative page load times of the two tabs).

  I was running Firefox 66.0.5+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 when I first
  noticed this.  I updated to 67.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 and the
  problem persists.

Menu Style" option. The user could select: Full screen, Horizontal, or Vertical.
  2. The ability to choose the application menu style. I would prefer a 
horizontal applications menu.
  3. A full screen application menu is the only option.

  When running the Nextcloud Client (flatpak or PPA) in Eoan Beta, its
  app indicator icon is never displayed in the notification area. Other
  apps sch as Steam and Skype have their indicator icons displayed fine.

  Output from the command line when running the flatpak produces the
  following error:

  specified are supported

  I can duplicate this issue 100% of the time.

  It's 100% reproducible. If I shut down Firefox and restart it, it
  works fine.

I just installed 19.10 on a new laptop with a 4K display and am
experiencing this same issue. Once I enable x11-randr-fractional-
scaling, scaling and orientation settings with an external display are

Title:
Display: 100% scale not remembered when X11 Fractional Scaling is
enabled

Bug description:
After upgrading to 19.04, I enabled the experimental 'x11-randr-
fractional-scaling' setting. If I set scaling to 125, 150, or 200%,
the setting is remembered and used the next time I log in. If I set
scaling to 100%, however, the next time I log in the scaling switches
back to 200% automatically. I only want to use fractional scaling for
external monitors.

Background: This is on a Dell XPS 9360 with a 1920x1080 ~168 DPI
screen. Pretty standard configuration. I have my DisplaySize set to
294x165 in Xorg.conf, Xft.dpi=168, GTK font scaling factor 1.0.

I have been unable to find an appropriate combination of settings
where 168 DPI is respected for accurate font rendering, while at the
same time not scaling up the rest of the UI to unusable proportions.
Fractional scaling seems to be the only way to adjust some Gnome UI
elements.

cables with my Sound Blaster ZxR: Front Left, Center, Front Right, Rear
Left, Rear Right, LFE

I only get sound from "Front Left"/"Front Right". All other speakers
don't make a sound. I tested Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu 19.10, Manjaro 18.10,
different Kernels and the Sound Blaster Patch from reddit, nothing
helped. After all these tests, I started again with a fresh Ubuntu 19.10
installation with this output from "alsa information script": http

Only thing that I did was changing the default audio device to my ZxR. 
Otherwise my NVIDIA graphics card is selected. I did that with ~/.asoundrc:

defaults.timer.!card "Creative"

Interestingly I decided to install Windows 10 on my second drive in dual boot 
mode.
I noticed that when I start Windows all speakers are working. Then I reboot to 
Ubuntu and all speakers are working, too. This effect will vanish if I shut 
down my PC and start directly to Ubuntu.
So something happens on Windows that is kept while rebooting to Ubuntu..

AFAIS there's no fix for bionic so far. 
So I grabber unity-settings-daemon & libunity-settings-daemon from comment #33 
for disco and installed (need also libcolord2_1.4.3 package to resolve 
dependensies).

  Earlier, before 18.04 this phenomenon was rare, namely once a week at
  most.

  But since 18.04 it is almost guaranteed, not deterministic, but highly
  probable, that after an initial boot or a warm reboot these key
  bindings will not work.

  Whenever I lock my computer, or it goes into power saving mode
  automatically, the monitors turn back on and show the lock screen a
  few seconds later. This has persisted now for about a year, has
  persisted across multiple upgrades (18.10, 19.04, 19.10) as well as
  complete hardware replacement (CPU intel -> AMD, GPU nVidia -> AMD).
  So I'm convinced this is a software bug.

  The first line in logging that I can find that seems to trigger this
  is:

  "gnome-shell[1967]: ../../../gobject/gsignal.c:2647: instance
  '0x55daa50a2920' has no handler with id '145952'"

  I update my system regularly, so this looks to either be a regression,
  or uncaught bug. I don't know if other things are causing this, but
  that's the first line (based on time) that is reported when it turns
  the monitors back on.

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  You need a Spanish keyboard (this may happen with some other languages
  as well).

  1. Let's suppose you have a couple of contacts called John Smith and Steve 
Johnson in your address book
  2. Open Thunderbird and click Write to compose a new message
  3. In the "To:" field start typing "jo"
  4. The autocomplete will show at least two possibilities: John Smith and 
Steve Johnson, and possibly more if you have more contacts which match
  5. Now type a í or ú or ó or á. On a spanish keyboard, this is done by first 
hitting the "´" key and then hitting the desired vowel key. I guess the issue 
will exist with any character that is typed by hitting a sequence of keys

  Expected: the typed character (e.g. í) should appear, so you have
  typed "joí", so any autocomplete suggestions should disappear (unless
  you have any name starting with joí in your contacts)

  Observed: autocomplete automatically chooses "John Smith" as if you
  had hit the TAB or ENTER key.

  Note that the characters í, á, ó, etc work perfectly fine in my system
  and I can write them without issue, (even in Thunderbird when I am
  writing the body of the message) except for this issue.

  Strangely enough, this happens in most cases but not always. For
  example, I have a few contacts whose name start with "sa" (none of
  them with "saí"), but if I type "saí" it behaves as expected. However
  most examples I test do reproduce the issue. I haven't been able to
  narrow down the exact pattern.

  A real life example:
  I had to write to a person called Elías which I thought I had in the address 
book but I didn't. In my address book I have a "Circuito Electrovisiones", a 
few "Elena" and an "Elisabetta". So I typed "elí"... While typing "el" the 
expected options appeared automatically in the list, but as soon as I got to 
"elí" it immediately selected "Circuito Electrovisiones" (and added a í at the 
end after the email address) which does not contain the "elí" pattern at all.

  test regressions on other archs.  The use case for network-manager on

  and obviously is never 'mobile', which are 2 main reasons to use
  network-manager instead of systemd-networkd.  Additionally, all tests
  are currently skipped on armhf due to the requirement for machine
  isolation (and armhf tests run in containers), so s390x is not the
  first arch to simply skip all network-manager autopkgtests.

Από τότε μάλλον έχει λιγότερη χρήση cpu αλλά το μήνυμα εξακολουθεί και το 
βγάζει μετά από το πάγωμα της οθόνης.
   Θα σας παρακαλούσα να μου στέλνατε στα Αγγλικά βήμα βήμα οδηγίες διότι δεν 
γνωρίζω πολλά από Ubuntu και η εδώ κοινότητα δεν απαντούν σε προβλήματα που

  1. Click a URL that downloads a .png file
  2. The browser shows a "What should Firefox do with this file?" dialog
  3. Click "Open With", then select "Other..." in the drop-down

  What happens:
   * New dialog appears titled "Choose Helper Application" but it is a file 
system browser that requires me to navigate to the exact location of any 
application I choose

  What should happen:
   * I should see an application picker. I don't care where they live on disk.

  This happens on all versions of Firefox I care to try on any release
  of Ubuntu.

  It would be useful for Kubuntu if xul-ext-ubufox was demoted from a
  Recommends to a Suggest and a flavor could then include it in their
  seeds.

Testing with Firefox 70, Ubuntu 18.04 and the link apt://htop, I am
prompted to use AptURL or Software.

Selecting "AptURL" tells me the application is already installed and
selecting "Software" gives me an option to either Launch or Remove the
application.

  apturl links stopped working after firefox 16

Bug description:
  In Precise + Firefox 11, typing apt://htop in the address bar
  correctly brings up a dialog which prompts the user to open the apturl
  link with Software Center.

  In the following versions that I tested, the dialog doesn't propose Software 
Center to open the link:
  Trusty + Firefox 26
  Precise + Firefox 26
  Precise + Firefox 23

  I think it broke after Firefox 16.

  So if a user goes to https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/htop and
  clicks on the "available on Software Centre" icon, he gets an empty
  dialog.

  When I try to upload picture for a Google contact from local hard drive 
(NTFS) I get the following error message:
  "The file you selected could not be uploaded. It may be too large or it was

  As a workaround I tried uploading contact pictures using older version of 
Gmail, and it worked just fine. I can also upload pictures for my contacts 
using Google Chrome browser or IE from under Windows, but I'd rather stick with 
Firefox.

  I use a firefox extension called "Drag It", it's a mouse guesture tool, it 
works fine before ubuntu 10.10
  in 12.04 when I drag a link on the website, it seems like the Launcher panel

configured as "auto hide"), thus the mouse guesture failed

  It looks like it's possibly related to Bug #230627, but it's slightly
  different and that bug is quite old now.

  Preferences --> Applications only has one PDF 'Content type' which is
  'PDF document', and I have evince ('Document Viewer') set as the
  application.

  I attach a screen shot of these Application preferences - file
  '2012_02_28 1 PDF preference.png'.

  However, if for example I try to open a PDF document, it tries to use
  gedit, as shown in the attached screen shot - file '2012_02_28 2
  Download PDF dialog box.png'.

  I notice that both Preferences 'Content type' and download dialog box
  'which is a:' use the words 'PDF document'. Neither of them use the
  words 'PDF file'.

  this should be default in Firefox. This can also be achieved without

cancel, ok, save file) when trying to open some attacked file.
  
  My browser started to hang when the dialog 'open as' appears. It's very
  useful since it quickly opens an attached file from gmail or browsing
  pdf/doc files.
  
  When the dialog opens, both the dialog and the browser window get
  extremely slow and i have to click several times for the dialog to
  close. No other button responds and sometimes the crash dialog asks if i
  want to force quit or wait.
  
  I'm having this problem for two weeks now and got so annoyed that sadly
  had to switch back to chrome. This is a very nice feature that doesn't
  work on said browser.
  
  I already uninstalled/installed, cleaned data and installed a nightly

I encounter a force-clock / segfault in gnome-control-center when trying to 
remove nameless Search Locations.  These are found at Settings > Search > 
Search Locations > Other.  (See attached screenshot.)  These nameless search 
locations have existed since conducting a clean install of Ubuntu 19.10 and 
I've been unable to remove them with the GUI.

If it helps, here is the syslog data generated when I attempt to delete a

  I set the key song_position_slider_hidden to "true" in gconf and it
  works (the slider is removed from the interface), but that key seems
  to be ignored on startup and I need to disable and enable it again to
  get rid of the slider every time.

  I think it might be the same problem that was already reported in

  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344595 ), but that time it
  was never confirmed and I don't have a Bugzilla account anyways.

  Hello all,

  A strange behaviour of rhythmbox (version 0.11.5, german translation)
  occured on my laptop:

  I select a few music files to edit their properties. Right-clicking on one 
file brings up a menu from which I select 'properties'. Using the 'back' and 
'next' buttons I adjust artist, title, album etc.
  So far things are working fine.

  When I reach the end of the list of prior selected music files sometimes 
(rather seldom) the 'back' button turns to grey and becomes inactive. Strangely 
enough the 'next' button is still active even thought there is no next file in 
the selection.
  While the 'back'-button in the properties menu is 'out of order' I have the 
close that menu and manually choose another music file from the selection. This 
occures to be rather strange to me. There could be something going on with the 
GUI of the file property menu.

  If you need any further description or system output from my laptop
  please let me know. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 on an IBM T40 laptop.

Title:
  "Repeat" button should be made unsensitive when playing podcasts

Bug description:
  When playing a podcast, the "repeat" mode is disabled : once the
  podcast has finished playing, you have to double click on it if you
  want to play it again, Repeat mode doesn't work.

  However, the Repeat button in the toolbar, is not greyed out. To the
  user, it looks as if Repeat mode ought to work, but it doesn't as it's
  a feature, so it's confusing.

  So would be great to make the Repeat button unsensitive/greayed out,
  when playing podcasts, to indicate clearly that it's disabled on
  purpose.

  Also, the "Shuffle" mode (in my use case at least) doesn't make much
  sense for podcasts either, so maybe it could be made unsensitive as
  well.

Public bug reported:

Every time I start libreoffice-math the system signals an error, asks me if I 
want to recover the document I was working on (none) and at the end runs 
libreoffice-writer.
After a while a message pops up that says that Ubuntu 18.04 has found an 
internal error.
I have tried to uninstall libreoffice-math via "software" and intalling it 
again without any results.
The system software is up to date.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If
this is still an issue using maintained versions of Firefox and Ubuntu
then please let us know otherwise this report can be left to expire in
approximately 60 days time.

Further to your comment #5, I'm unable to reproduce this issue using
Firefox 71 and the current development version of Xubuntu (20.04).

Title:
  Firefox Menu Bar missing when starting up at fvwm login

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I'm using the Fvwm window manager. In the "Session and Startup"
  dialog, I've added Firefox as an "Application Autostart", using the
  simple command "firefox". This has previously worked fine, but since
  upgrading to Ubuntu 17.04, Firefox starts up with the Menu Bar missing
  (below the title bar). Non-active window tabs are also greyed out.
  It's 100% reproducible. If I shut down Firefox and restart it, it
  works fine.

Title:
  download file does not honour preferences

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Just updated to "FF18.0 beta for mint" in KDE mint Maya 13 live dvd
  and it's a mess, basic stuff is stuffed.

  Similar to bug/892927, bug/1004037

  I set edit preferences:
  no   - Show the Downloads window when downloading
  no   - close it when..
  no   - save files to [ ]   - not set, left at default default value 
mint/Downloads
  yes - always ask

  attempted to download a file.

  No dialogue appeared to ask where to save it, I didn't check at that
  time what was happening, thought it had just failed.

  Some time later, a pop-up panel saying insufficient space to save
  file.

  There had been multiple attempts, all marked "failed" (though apparently 
successful)
   to download the file to root/tmp, ,   file-1, file-2 ... etc.,  which had 
filled up the allocation.

  So, the download not honouring the preferences set, sending to wrong
  folder, and marking as failed, retry, when finished.

  Is Firefox losing the will to live?

  yeesh.
