Any news regarding this?

This pretty much blocks me from switching to Wayland in Ubuntu 22.04

Bug description:
  Original description:
When using Chromium (snap) on Wayland (gnome-session), if I keep two windows
open on different workspaces, sometimes the current tab becomes unusable as it
freezes or is super-slow.

This usually happens with specific pages open, like youtube,
  mattermost, google drive.

Minimizing one of the two windows makes the other work fine.

The issues does not happen if both windows are on the same workspace.

I've seen this issue in 20.04 and 20.10, always on Wayland sessions.
The same behavior doesn't happen on a plain X11 session.

Google Chrome

Also, disabled media.webspeech.synth.enabled in Firefox, but that did
not solve the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-06-28 Thread Dimitris Kalamaras
Same issue here. Garbled noises are being heard on top of my music
(playing in the background via Rhythmbox) after starting Firefox and
visiting some random website.

My desktop is an AMD Ryzen on a Gigabyte X570 mobo with an nVidia
GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GPU. Like others noted, the noises seem stop for a
while when I change the Output Device from "Line Out - Starship/Matisse"
to "HDMI / DisplayPort X - GP106 High Definition Audio Controller". But
after some minutes playback (or perhaps visiting some other page with
firefox?), the garbled noises appear again... Also, like others, the
noises disappear if I close Firefox...

Font Viewer desktop file does not launch gnome-font-viewer

Status in gnome-font-viewer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 16.04.1

What I expect: When I double-click the Font Viewer icon from the Dash
Applications scope it should launch the Font Viewer.

What actually happens: It does not. I get the waiting cursor and the
Font Viewer tile on the launcher for a few seconds and then the tile
  disappears.

I can go to a terminal and type "gnome-font-viewer" and it runs
  without any issues.

Here is the content of the desktop file:

Title:
Brightness Level resets after closing lid to laptop.

Status in gnome-power-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
gnome-power-manager and the brightness applet had some very annoying
  bugs in Gutsy (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
  power-manager/+bug/137598).

For a while after upgrading to Hardy, it seemed as through the
aforementioned bug had been resolved. I was able to adjust the screen
brightness with [Fn + Up] and [Fn + Down] without issue. But now that
I have been using Hardy for a few days, it seems that some of the bugs
remain. If I set my brightness via the Brightness Applet, the chosen
brightness will change after I close/reopen my laptop lid. However, if
I use the [Fn + Up] and [FN + Down] keystrokes, the brightness will be
saved until the computer restarts. Once the computer restarts, the
brightness level returns to a level different from the level set with
[Fn + Up] or [Fn + Down].

I have not done any extensive testing, and thus cannot provide with
certainty a Steps to reproduce section. But it is clear that
something is wrong, as the brightness level should not modify itself
when I close my laptop lid. If anyone can confirm similar buggy
activity or would like to provide any other relevant information,
please do so in the comments section.

2013-10-18 Thread Dimitris
Updating with the PPA works for me to but you really need to go sow with the
key compination which makes it kind of a temporary workaround and not a real
solution.
Keep up the good work!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070963] Re: libreoffice calc hangs when opening an xls file shared over cifs

2013-07-25 Thread Dimitris Kalamaras
Same problem here (on default Ubuntu 13.04 installation) with
LibreOffice Calc.

Opening an XLS / ODS over SMB, then closing it seems to crash
LibreOffice. You cannot kill it, nor restart it.

No success attempting to kill -9 the soffice.bin process. Neither pkill
-9 -f soffice.bin did something.

The only way out is to reboot your PC :(

I am attaching strace log as Michael Meeks requested on comment #8.

** Attachment added: output of strace -f -ttt -s 256 -o /tmp/slog soffice
-writer

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 982956] Re: HUD won't show main window menu options when a chat window has focus

2012-04-29 Thread Dimitris Tzortzis
The same happened to me with Firefox. Instead of showing Firefox's preferences,
I get Dropbox's.
If, however, instead of pressing Return to select the Preferences in the HUD
dropdown, I click the selection with my mouse, then it works properly! I hope
this helps you identify the problem.
Here's a video of this behaviour: http://youtu.be/JIFdvSZV5cs
The first two times I pressed enter to select the menu item and the last one I
left clicked it and it worked.
Although, in the last time, as you see, the new window appears in the
background, not in the foreground. Do you maybe know why is that? I did a fresh
install but have kept my home folder. Any chance it's conflicting with
configurations from gnome?

Title:
HUD won't show main window menu options when a chat window has focus

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I had the Empathy main window (with the list of contacts) open but not
focussed, and was in a chat window. I showed the HUD to try to change
the theme, but neither theme nor preferences brought up the main

  indicator app (dropbox) instead.
